Ballantyne, James Lloyd

Comments: Corporal Ballantyne was a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War near Hoengsong, Korea while fighting the enemy in South Korea on February 12, 1951 and died while a prisoner on March 31, 1951. He died in the hands of his captors and was never accounted for and his remains were not recovered.

James Ballantyne is not buried in the family cemetery plot but he may have a marker there in his honor.

Block, Robert Stanley

Hostile, Died While Captured (POW)

Comments: Private First Class Block was a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy in South Korea on July 16, 1950 and taken on a death march from Manpo to Chungung, North Korea. Sick and exhausted, he was unable to walk. His comrades carried him until a North Korean officer directed he be left behind and shot him on November 4, 1950. His remains were not recovered. His family knew him as "Bobby."

Brandt, Arnold Nicholaus

Died while captured/interned

Comments: Lieutenant Colonel Brandt was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of the 8668th Army Unit, Korean Military Assistance Group (KMAG). He was taken Prisoner of War while advising the South Koreans in North Korea on November 27, 1950 and died while a prisoner on June 30, 1951. His remains were not recovered. Died in Camp 5.

Comments: Sergeant Carr was a member of Company D, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on November 6, 1951.

McAlister, Harold Richard “Dick”

Comments: Private First Class McAlister was a member of the 16th Reconnaissance Squadron, 1st Cavalry Division. He was seriously wounded while fighting the enemy in North Korea on October 20, 1951 and died of those wounds later that day.

Wentzel, David Wesley "Bud"

Comments: Sergeant First Class Wentzel was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of the 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was Killed in Action while defending an outpost against fighting the enemy near Sokkogae, North Korea on November 21, 1951. Although wounded he continued to kill the enemy until he was killed by an enemy grenade. He was known to his family as "Bud." Platoon Sergeant.
