JEFFRIES HOTEL, SARGEANT, MINNESOTA, circa 1910
From the Sargeant Centennial Celebration 1876-1976 booklet: Hotels: Knute Lonna once ran the west hotel. moved to a spot nearer the street by Charles Musolf, it became the Jeffers (Jeffries) Hotel about 1914. As the train came in about noon, Mrs. Jeffers (Jeffries) would watch and count the traveling men getting off. She would fill waiting pie shells (as needed), and pop them in the over for dinner. According to the 1920 Mower county census, William Jeffries was superintendent of the County Home in Austin. By the 1930's William Jeffires was manager of a hotel in Lanesboro, Minnesota.
