Thelma's Obituary--

Thelma “Jo” Stundahl, 82 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away at her home at the Cedars of Austin on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.

Thelma Jewell was born April 7, 1937, in Ava, Missouri, to Simon Ela and Mary Esther (Freeman) Hancock. She graduated from Ava High School in 1955 and attended vocational school. Jo married Leslie Stundahl on March 3, 1978. Through the years, she worked for the telephone company, cab company and the Austin Daily Herald.

Jo enjoyed sewing crafts, crocheting afghans and she made many quilts for friends and family. She loved listening to country music, reading her Bible and baking goodies.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Michael Jensen and Alton Dale Jensen Jr. and her daughter, Vicki Jensen; three sisters, Helen (Bill) Hodge, Dorothy O’Donnell and Betty (James) Shelton.

Jo is survived by her husband, Leslie Stundahl of Austin; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Jensen of Georgia; grandchildren, Christina, Donny, Derick all of Georgia; Daniel (Wendy) of Florida and Sasha (Michael) of Missouri; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and special niece, Sheila Hastings (Willie King) of Austin and special friends Chuck and Nancy Cook of Austin

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 14th at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Reverend Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday. Interment will be in Geneva Cemetery.

Violet Wyona (Fuglesteen) Lee

1924-2019

December 16, 1924 - December 13, 2019 (age 94)

Violet W. Lee, age 94, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Friday, December 13, 2019 at The Cedars of Austin.

Violet Wyona Fuglesteen was born December 16, 1924 in LeRoy, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole and Ellen (Swenson) Fuglesteen. She grew up amongst chickens, cows, and horses on a farm just outside of Leroy. Violet later graduated from LeRoy High School as president of her class. She always considered herself a “country girl” and cherished the memory of her childhood on the farm for the rest of her life.

On August 3, 1947, Violet married Clifford Lee at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Barbara and Cindy. Violet worked in the New Style Casing department at Hormel Foods in Austin for 5 years. She then devoted her time to caring for her children. Violet was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austin and enjoyed knitting, drawing, card making, wood carving, and word puzzles.

In the summers, she relished camping with Cliff in their RV, horseback riding, and watching birds congregate at the feeders and baths that decorated her backyard. Violet loved spending time with her family and friends, especially attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting activities. Her happy-go-lucky personality and welcoming home always drew friends, family, and neighbors to “visit” with her at her kitchen table.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Barbara (Mark) Owens of Austin, MN, Cindy (Dave) Berg of Golden Valley, MN; four grandchildren, Mandy (Bryan) Wehler, Jamie (Derek) Patrick, Melissa (Brent) Palmer, Eric (Natalie Blum-Ross) Owens; ten great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Ellen Fuglesteen; sister, Fern Schar; husband, Clifford Lee in 2000; brothers-in-law, Wally Schar, Lynn Christenson, and Bill Lee; and sisters-in-law, Elinor Lee and Charlene Christenson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Memorials can be directed to recipient of donor’s choice.

Linda Lucille Mount

1947-2019

July 8, 1947 - December 15, 2019 (age 72)

Linda Lucille Mount, 72, of Brownsdale, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Born on July 8, 1947 in Lake City, Iowa, Linda was the youngest child of James Albert and Gladys (Ford) Mount. She spent her early years in Carroll County, Iowa. She attended elementary school in Lanesboro, junior high in Lake City and high school in Carroll, graduating in 1965.

After graduating, Linda worked as a waitress at various restaurants and in the admissions department at Saint Anthony's Hospital in Carroll. She then went to work for Kmart in Carroll before transferring to their new Austin, Minnesota store. Later she worked at Jim's MarketPlace Foods in Austin from where she retired several years ago. She also was an organist at churches in both Carroll and Austin for many years.

Linda enjoyed playing computer games, especially with her friend Gail in Canada, and watching sports on television, most notably the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings. She also had several cats over the years that she adored.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Darlene Jensen and June Stouten and two brothers, James Mount and Verlon Mount.

She leaves to mourn her passing a sister-in-law, Janice Mount, of Florissant, Missouri; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews.

Linda was very proud that she donated her body to Mayo Clinic to help with research and educational purposes which was a very generous and selfless act.

Per Linda's request there will be no funeral service. A private committal of her cremains will take place in the Lanesboro Cemetery in Lanesboro, Iowa at a later date. Robin H. Hanks

Obituary

Robin “Rob” Hanks, 64, of LeRoy, Minnesota, died on Monday, December 16, 2019, at his home.

Robin Howard Hanks was born April 25, 1955, to Fred J. and Donna (Fossum) Hanks in Spring Valley, MN. Following his high school graduation from LeRoy-Ostrander High School in 1973, he attended the University of Minnesota in Waseca. He then returned to the family farm to farm with his dad and brother. Rob was a member of the LeRoy Farmers Co-op Board and served on the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association where he served as Chairman for several years.

He was also on the Bloomfield Mutual Insurance Board where he was currently the Board President. He served on the Mower-Fillmore Soybean Growers Association from 1995-2017 and served as the Secretary-Treasurer from 1995-2007, as well as serving as the Secretary-Treasurer for Ag Management Solutions since 2017. Rob was actively serving on the Soybean Research and Promotion Board for Minnesota since 1999. He was the Vice Chair of that board from 2005-2006 and Chair from 2006-2008. He was appointed to the National United Soybean Growers Association as a board member by the USDA from 2007-2016. In Rob’s free time he enjoyed woodworking and photography.

Rob is survived by his brothers Darrell (Darla) Hanks of Forest City, Iowa, Neil (Donna) Hanks of LeRoy, MN, nephews Nick (Emily) Hanks of Foley, MN, Paul (Andrea) Hanks of LeRoy, John (Kelly Sayre) Hanks of Sacramento, CA, step-nephews Matthew (Jessie) Tindall of Corwith, IA, Martin Tindall of Forest City, IA, and great-nieces and nephews Breckan, Natalie, Sydney, Gavin, Gaige, Charlie, Owen, and Addisyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation for Rob will be held on Friday, December 20, 2019, from 5-7 p.m. at Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy. Burial will take place in Bethlehem Cemetery at a later date.

Terry Nystel, age 50 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2019 at his home in Austin.

Terry was born September 9, 1969 in Austin, to Terry and Linda (Nystel) Sprandel. He grew up in Austin and graduated in 1987 from Austin High School. Following graduation, Terry enlisted into the United States Marines serving from 1989-1993. He worked for Nystel Trucking for many years and also as an independent operator of his own truck. Terry enjoyed fishing, camping, campfires, hunting, playing darts, telling jokes, and playing pool in a league at Spanky’s Bar in Austin. Terry will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his parents, Terry and Linda Sprandel of Austin, Minnesota; children, Avery (Brooke “Trout” Kammer) Nystel of Moorhead, Minnesota, Larissa Heyer of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; sisters, Melissa (Travis) Sheka of Stacyville, Iowa; Amy Hinchley (Sprandel) of Austin, Minnesota; eight nieces and nephews, Christopher, Justus, Ronlyn, Travis, Quentin, Montana, Nevada, Samantha; dear friend and mother of his children, Stefani Schultz of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; and very close friend, Bridgette Trimble (Johnson) of Austin, Minnesota.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Military honors are by American Legion Post 91 and V.F.W. Post 1216. Mae Etta Marie (Waters) Jarvis

1922-2019

Mae Etta Marie (Waters) Jarvis, 94, of Wyoming, Minnesota, passed on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, surrounded by her family.

She was born July 25, 1922, at Bluegrass Farm in Allamakee County, Iowa. She graduated from Austin High School in 1947, and attended Austin Community College. On Sept. 1, 1948, she married Charles Kenneth Jarvis.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Kenneth; her parents, Mark and Nora Waters; and brothers, Ralph and Loran Waters.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Eisenmenger (Bill); sons, Richard (Ann), Mark, Bruce and Keith (Laurie); 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and brother, Darrel Waters (Tim Gerarden).

A celebration of Mae Etta’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2020, at Incarnation Lutheran Church, 4880 Hodgson Road, Shoreview, MN. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, at Roberts Family Home in Forest Lake, Minnesota, and will continue for one hour before the service on Friday at the church. Internment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Devlin

c1928-2019

Marian J. Devlin, 91, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019.

A Florida native with a spirit for adventure and travel, Marian planted her roots in Austin, Minnesota. She raised a family of two daughters (Lindsay and Kim) and a son (Cory). After the passing of her husband Hal Sessions, she found love again with Ron (Scotty) Devlin. Together they were devoted parents and grandparents with no shortage of patience, adventure, entertainment and lifelong memories.

They were the best of friends and partners until Ron passed in February 2012. Marian spent many years working for Hormel Research and Development as a home economist, crafting recipes that used Hormel products for pictures and recipe cards. Marian submitted an idea for a new chili recipe that was placed into temporary production named “Cookbook Chili.” She was the contributing author of “Cooking Sessions with Marian” in the Hormel New publication.

Marian taught her children and grandchildren lasting hobbies such as collecting, antiquing, and cooking, all of which have been passed down for generations. Marian lived a long, full life, rich with family and experiences.

She was loved and befriended by many and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron (Scotty) Devlin; daughter, Kimberley Ann Cassidy; sister, Marjorie Douglas; brother, Lucian Albert Johns Jr.; mother, Stella Berry Thomas; and father, Lucian Albert Johns.

She is survived by her daughter, Lindsay (Gary), Arlee, Montana; son, Cory, Lakeville Minnesota; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Thomas Dean Torgerson

1949-2019

Thomas Dean Torgerson, 70, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minnesota.

Tom was born November 16, 1949, in Rochester, Minnesota, to Donald and Doris (Scott) Torgerson. He was confirmed at the First Congregational Church in Austin and went on to graduate from Austin High School. Tom had a passion for his beloved Shorthorn cattle and a great love for his family. He grew up on the family farm and lived there for the majority of his life.

There wasn’t an animal that Tom didn’t love and care for. He found great joy in attending cattle shows and sales, which gave him a chance to visit with old friends. His happiest times were whenever his family was gathered together. Holidays surrounded by his great-nephews and great-nieces were his favorite. Tom loved visiting with them and playing whatever games or toys they chose.

Survivors include his brothers, Steven (Kay) Torgerson of Austin, Jeffrey Torgerson of Minnieska, Minnesota, and Tim Torgerson of Nye, Montana; six nieces, Stephanie (Chad) Steele of Plymouth, Minnesota, Abby (John) Wagner of Vermillion, Minnesota, Kanon (Eric) Nordland of Billings, Montana, Merilla Torgerson of Rochester, Kelsey Torgerson of Perham, Minnesota, and Corey (Russ) Hochstaetler of Duluth, Minnesota; and eight great-nephews and great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Doris Torgerson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, 2019, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Ardath Ann (Bang) Valdahl

1932-2019

Ardath A. Valdahl, 87, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2019, at Scenic Manor Nursing Home in Iowa Falls, Iowa.

Ardath Ann Bang was born on Nov. 4, 1932, in Austin to Helmer and Anita (Tucker) Bang. She graduated from Austin High School in 1950 and called the community home for her entire life.

On May 27, 1951, Ardath married Charles Valdahl at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Wendy and Mari. Ardath was known for her kindness, which is something for which she consistently prayed. She was a woman of great faith and found immense joy in caring for her family, friends and church congregation. She was an animal-lover and talented baker who delivered many batches of desserts to the church and her neighbors. Ardath worked at St. Olaf Hospital for more than 35 years.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Charles Valdahl of Austin (living in Iowa Falls); daughters, Wendy (Terry) Voigt of Lakeway, Texas, and Mari (Tony) Thies of Iowa Falls; four grandchildren, Kelly (Mike) Howard, Kirsten (Jeremy) Frederickson, Jaime (Jeff) Vieth and Brodie Thies; and six great-grandchildren, Brycen Vilmain, Kieran Howard, Soren Howard, Raina Howard, Arkyn Howard and Paxton Vieth. She was preceded in death by her parents, Helmer and Anita Bang; and one brother, Bob Bang.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Austin. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Lois Harriet (Hougard) Dillavou

1920-2019

Lois H. Dillavou, 99, of Austin, Minnesota, former resident of Rose Creek, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019, at Primrose Retirement Community of Austin.

Lois Harriet Hougard was born Feb. 28, 1920, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the daughter of Albert and Meta (Bohl) Hougard. She grew up in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1936. After graduation, Lois worked for Northwestern Bell for nine years. On Nov. 28, 1946, she was united in marriage to Elner Dillavou at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Their union was blessed with two children. In 1950, the Dillavous moved to their farm near Rose Creek, where Lois became a full-time homemaker, raising her two sons and helping on the farm.

Lois was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother with a calm and soothing disposition and especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren. She belonged to the Rose Creek Literary Club, The So-Called Club, and was a past member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Lois loved music and enjoyed playing the organ and piano. She also enjoyed yard work and liked to travel, making several trips overseas. Lois will be remembered for her unconditional love for her family and as a devoted friend to many. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her son, Ron (Patricia) Dillavou of Rose Creek; four grandchildren, David (Julie) Dillavou, Michelle (Alex) Sirois, Linsey (David) McDonald and Christina Dillavou; three great-grandchildren, Ryan McDonald, Reagan McDonald and Benjamin Sirois; daughter-in-law, Darlene Dillavou of Mankato, Minnesota; and brother-in-law, Lary Dillavou and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Meta Hougard; husband, Elner, in 2018; son, Wayne Dillavou; three sisters; three brothers; and sister-in-law, JoAnn Dillavou.

A private service will be held. The family would like to thank the staff at Primrose Retirement Community and Mayo Clinic Hospice for the care they provided Lois. Robert Reece Clark

Robert's Obituary

Robert R. Clark, 75 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away at Our House Senior Living on Thursday, December 19, 2019.

Robert Reece was born on October 31, 1944 in Indianapolis, Indiana to John and Alice (Miller) Clark. He grew up in Lafayette, Indiana and graduated with the class of 1963 from Lafayette High School. Bob went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy from Purdue University, and earned his Master’s degree in Sociology from Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.

Bob was united in marriage to Nancy Jo Wainscott on June 8, 1968 in Lafayette, Indiana. Bob and Nancy moved to St. Peter, Minnesota where Bob began his career with the St. Peter State Hospital. They later resided in Willmar, then to Austin in 1975 where Bob began working for Woodvale/REM. In 2004 Bob returned to school to obtain his real estate license, and took a position with the Fawver Agency in Austin.

Bob was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Austin, where he was a member of Questers, served on the finance team, and was chairperson of the SPR Committee. He was also active in the Austin community as a member of Kiwanis, served as a regional leader of Special Olympics, and was a member of the Austin City Planning Commission. Bob took great joy being involved in his children’s lives and following their interests. He served on the boards of Austin’s Youth Hockey and Youth Basketball programs.

Over the years he treasured family time at the cabin on Beaver Lake, enjoyed fishing, and was an avid baseball and basketball fan. He was a proud Purdue Boilermaker Alumnus, and a life long New York Yankee fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother John Clark.

Bob is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Andy (Doreen) Clark of Minnetonka, MN, Allyson (Geoff) Clark Peterson of Eau Claire, WI; grandchildren, Aidan and Keegan Clark, Nicole and Collin Peterson; sister, Marcia Oldridge of Champaign, IL; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2nd at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. Donna Dempewolf officiating. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Wednesday, January 1st from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and will continue at the church on Thursday one hour before the service. Memorials are preferred to First United Methodist Church or Alzheimer’s Association.

Diane Marie (Weis) Arett

1949-2019

Diane M. Arett, 70 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin on Friday, December 20, 2019.

Diane Marie was born April 24, 1949 in Rochester, Minnesota to Vernon and Marian (Berg) Weis. She grew up in Austin and attended Austin Schools, graduating with the class of 1967 from Austin High School. On May 1, 1971, Diane was united in marriage to Dale Arett at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin. They were married for 27 years, and were blessed with four sons.

Diane was a homemaker and devoted mother to her sons. Over the years she also worked for various Austin businesses including St. Olaf Hospital in central supply, and later for REM/Woodvale. Diane was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church. She served the church as Sunday school superintendent, and volunteered her time where ever her talents were needed. Diane also found time to care for her father for many years as his health was in decline. At the center of her life were her children and grandchildren, and she loved following all of their sports and activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her infant son Christopher.

Diane is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Bradley and Barbra Arett of Thief River Falls, Andrew Arett of Austin, and John and Tiffany Arett of Austin; 11 grandchildren, Brett Newell, Joshua Rasmussen, Ashley Rasmussen, Edward Arett, Elizabeth Arett, Taylor Arett, Isaiah Clennon, Kaitlin Arett, Mikayla Arett, Jett Arett, Magnolia Arett; great-grandson, Maison Benson; brothers, Brian Weis of Mora, Mark Weis of Austin; sister, Karen Placek of Austin; former husband, Dale Arett of Minneapolis; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 27th at Grace Lutheran Church with the Reverend Madison Chelberg officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Richard Francis Murphy

1930-2019

Richard Francis Murphy passed away peacefully on December 18, 2019 at Madonna Towers Hospice Care in Rochester, Minnesota.

He was born on April 23, 1930 in South Bend, Indiana and graduated from Elkhart Indiana High School in 1948. Richard joined the Navy and served in the Seabees on the island of Guam during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He was married to Jaroldine Lee on July 25, 1953.

Richard graduated from Trine University in Angola, Indiana with a BS Degree in civil engineering in 1955. After working with the Wabash Railroad from 1955 to 1957 he moved to Austin, Minnesota in 1957, where he served as both assistant city engineer and city engineer for 35 years until his retirement in 1992. Richard served as president of the Austin Swim Club for several years, and was also a member of the Mower County Soil Conservation Board. As a licensed professional engineer, Richard served on many city and State of Minnesota Boards.

Murphy was an avid Notre Dame and Minnesota Vikings Football fan. He also participated in local recreational softball and basketball leagues for several years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Elsie Mae (Edwards); three brothers, Donald, Robert, and David; sister, Patricia Carter.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jaroldine; daughter, Colleen Murphy, Austin, MN; two sons, Christopher, Madison, WI, Patrick (Nancy), Omaha, NE; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 pm on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Mayer Funeral Home with a rosary at 6 pm.

Marlys Delone (Madson) Kime

1929-2019

Marlys Delone Kime, 90, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 20, 2019, surrounded by her loving family at St. Mark’s Memory Care in Austin.

Marlys was born Feb. 22, 1929, in Newburg Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota, the daughter of Howard and Anna (Morem) Madson. She attended Newburg Country School and then Mable School before moving to Austin in 1942, where she attended Austin High School and graduated in 1946.

On Aug. 10, 1947, Marlys was united in marriage to Duane Kime at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. They were blessed with three children, Steven, Laurie and Bradley. The couple later divorced. In 1948, Marlys started working as a switchboard operator for Northwestern Bell. She was then promoted as a service representative in the main office until her retirement in 1978. Marlys moved to Park Rapids, Minnesota, for a period of time before moving back to Austin.

She was an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and enjoyed birthday club lunches with friends and retirees. Her family brought her much joy in life; she loved making trips to visit and spend time with them. Marlys liked to have fun and enjoyed being a part of family celebrations, birthdays, and loved attending her grandchildren’s events. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Steven (Barbara) Kime of Austin and Bradley (Pamela) Kime of Stewartville, Minnesota; daughter, Laurie (Robert) Hoffman of Cedar Falls, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Brandon (Jennifer) Kime, Betsy (Ryan) Ratchford, Gina (David) Razidlo, Andrew (Allison) Hoffman, Janelle (Andrew) Olson, Jamey (Angie) Kime, Troy (Kylee) Hoffman and Karissa Kime; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen (Lewis) Johnson of San Diego, California, and Sharon (Edward) Hill of Mount Vernon, Iowa; sister-in-law, Luanne Madson of Kasson, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Anna Madson; sister, Betty (Myron) Young; brother, Daryl Madson; and grandson, Justin Kime.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Memorials can be directed to St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Services are prearranged and performed with Worlein Funeral Home of Austin. Elmer Daniel Mullenbach

1929-2019

January 14, 1929 - December 23, 2019

Elmer Daniel Mullenbach, 90 of Adams, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2019, at the Adams Health Care Center.

Elmer was born January 14, 1929, in Osage, Iowa, one of seven children of John and Lena Mullenbach. Elmer grew up in Adams and attended Johnsburg School. On October 14, 1953, he was united in marriage to Donna Jean Graves at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin.

Elmer and Donna raised their family and resided on their farm near Johnsburg. In 1996 they moved off the farm and into Adams. Over the years, Elmer worked at Thill Implement in Rose Creek. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, playing baseball, camping with his friends and family and watching the Minnesota Twins with his wife.

Elmer was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams and former member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg. He enjoyed seeing and spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids, they could always put a smile on his face. Elmer enjoyed his daughters spending time at the house, and on Black Friday, he told them they were crazy for shopping so early in the morning. He enjoyed playing cards and loved dancing with his wife.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his parents; son, Darwin Mullenbach; his siblings, Darlene Meyer, Evangline Binzer, Vernon Mullenbach, and Wayne Mullenbach.

Elmer is survived by his children: Cindy Mullenbach of Stewartville, Brad (Gayle) Mullenbach of Austin, Delmar (Nancy) Mullenbach of Owatonna, Nancy (Butch) Eischens of Dodge Center, Scott Mullenbach of Adams, Mary (Glenn) Nichols of Chatfield, Dave Mullenbach of Spring Valley, Beverly (Jim) Salisbury of Stewartville, and Janice (Steve) Eischens of Taopi; 21 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren; sisters: Cleo Osmundson and Jurine (David) Smith; brother-in-law: Allan Meyer; sister-in-law: LaVonne (Slim) Landherr; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 30th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams with Father Swaminatha Pothireddy officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home with a 2:00 p.m. parish Rosary, and will continue Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Violet Hazel (Rogstad) Gleason

1931-2019

September 5, 1931 - December 19, 2019 (age 88)

Violet Hazel Gleason, age 88 of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Comforcare Nursing Home in Austin.

She was born September 5th, 1931 at Grandview Hospital in LaCrosse Wisconsin to Arnold Henry Rogstad and Louise (Gjernes) Rogstad. Her parents lived and farmed around the Preston area. Violet attended country schools graduating from the 8th grade in Harmony in 1945 after which her parents quit farming and moved to Austin. In Austin her Dad worked for Hormel and Violet attended Austin High School, graduating in 1949. She worked at Kinsman Greenhouse, Woolworth’s and Kresge’s while in high school.

After graduating, Violet worked for the telephone company as a telephone operator. Violet married Robert R. Gleason on October 22nd, 1950 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin and moved to the Gleason farm near Lyle. From this union three children were born, Steven, Sandra, and Susan.

Violet loved farming alongside her husband. She loved watching the crops grow and always enjoyed her favorite season, fall and harvest time. She also took pleasure in the animals that were raised on the farm, chickens, pigs, cattle, and of course the farm pets of many cats and dogs. Violet cooked many meals for family and hired men. She had a reputation of being a wonderful cook and baker.

Violet was active in her church, Our Savior’s Lutheran, Lyle, Minnesota. Being a Christian was important to Violet and she looked forward to being with her Savior. She was a Sunday School Teacher and participated in Ladies Aide and Circle. She was an adult leader of the Nevada 4H club. Violet enjoyed spending time with family. She was always excited to host family get-togethers and celebrations. She also spent time reading and shopping. Violet participated in Bingo, cards, and attended music programs at Comforcare Nursing Home. She expressed kindness in many ways to the other residents that she lived with at Comforcare.

Violet is survived by her son Steven (Cynthia) Gleason of Austin, daughter Sandra (Keith) Groth of Stewartville, five grandchildren, Philip (Emily) Gleason of Tallahassee, FL, Dr. Kara (Carl) Mould of Denver, CO, Marjorie Gleason of Denver, CO, Michelle (Ryan) Jones of Chicago, IL, Nicholas (Hannah) Groth of Beaver Dam, WI, two great grandchildren, Elise and Anthony Mould of Denver, CO, two step grandsons, Dominic Ciola of Minneapolis, MN, and Louis (Nicole) Ciola of Austin, TX, a sister, Lila Pietenpol of St. Paul, MN, along with several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert, parents Arnold and Louise, daughter Susan, daughter-in-law Janel (Bendtsen) Gleason, sister Marie Schinke, brother-in-laws Roy and Charles “Read” Gleason, Robert Shinke, and Kermit Pietenpol, sister-in-laws Harriet, Phyllis, and Virginia Gleason.

Visitation for Violet will be held at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin on Friday, January 3, 2020 from 4 to 7 P.M. The funeral will be at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Lyle on Saturday, January 4 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Scott Meyer will be officiating. Interment following the service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mona, Iowa. Services are pending with Worlein Funeral Home of Austin. Armando Ivan "Mondo" Cifuentes

1975-2019

Armando Ivan Cifuentes “Mondo”, age 43 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, Saint Marys Campus.

Mondo was born December 30, 1975 in Chicago, Illinois, to Ruby and Angelina (Perez) Cifuentes. He did his first communion at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Austin. He graduated from Austin High School in 1995. Mondo then went on to attend Riverland Community College in Albert Lea, Minnesota for auto mechanics. He enjoyed watching football, especially the Chicago Bears. Mondo also enjoyed watching Star Wars, Hell’s Kitchen, M*A*S*H, and liked to listen to what he considered “too heavy for some – metal.” He was known to be very honest in his own eyes, and was loud and proud. Mondo was his mother’s champion. He was a champion through multiple amputations and fought till the very end. Mondo never lost his sense of humor or strong will. He will dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his parents, Angelina and Tom Tschida; brother, Michael Tschida; the love of his life, Jenifer Olson; two nephews, Michael and Gabriel Tschida; and his basset hounds, Grace and Rigley. He was preceded in death by his biological father, Ruby Cifuentes; grandparents, Caroline and Eugene Tschida.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2019 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday. Thomas Miller Paulson

1939-2019

November 15, 1939 - December 23, 2019 (age 80)

Thomas Miller Paulson, age 80 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, December 23, 2019 from complications of congestive heart failure.

He was born on November 15, 1939 in Garner, Iowa to Melvin and Agnes (Miller) Paulson. They moved to Austin when Tom was nine. Tom graduated from Austin High School in 1957 and then attended Austin Junior College. On March 3, 1958, he married Phyllis Christofferson in Austin. Together they raised four children. Tom then began a 40-year career with Hormel Foods starting as a foreman and moving into sales. He held sales positions in Florida, Ohio, and Minneapolis. While in Ohio, Tom served as president of the Canfield Kiwanis Club and was involved in The Special Olympics Program.

After retiring and returning to Austin, he was an active member of First United Methodist Church where he served as financial secretary for several years. Tom also served on the board of St. Mark’s Nursing Home. Tom enjoyed a second career serving as a funeral assistant for almost 10 years at Worlein Funeral Home. Tom enjoyed working in his yard which was pristine. He loved entertaining and cooking. He was especially known for his delicious barbeque ribs. Tom’s greatest joy was his family. He was so proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Phyllis (Christofferson) Paulson; two daughters, Kim Cambias, Kelly (John) Downey; son, Brian Paulson; 15 grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Whelan, Alyson (Goodrich) Wright, Kelly (David) Miles, Timothy Cambias Jr., Katie (Matt) Morgan, Christy (Scott) Rogne, Stephanie (Ty) Kennedy, Jeffrey Cochran, Josh Downey, Melissa Downey, Zach (Brooke) Downey, Hannah Paulson, Brendan Paulson, Emma Paulson, Thomas Paulson; 21 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sharon (Keith) Barnes, Delores Moe, and Mary (Jim) Herrick.

He was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Agnes Paulson; step-father, Ray Wagner; sister, Janice Nixon; and son, Michael Paulson in 2016.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2019 at First United Methodist Church in Austin. Visitation will take place from 9:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin. Marilyn Lucille (McClary) Pack

1932-2019

Marilyn L. Pack, age 87 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at the Adams Health Care Center in Adams, Minnesota.

Marilyn Lucille McClary was born June 14, 1932 in rural Spring Valley, Minnesota, the daughter of Chester and Eva (Bonner) McClary. She graduated from Austin High School in 1951. Marilyn married Everett Pack in Austin, Minnesota on August 31, 1951 and to this union three children were born. Marilyn loved her role as homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother “grams”.

She was a member of Cornerstone Church where she was active in church work, life groups and prayer groups, and helped with serving at funerals.

Marilyn was a prayer warrior for her family and many friends. Her faith in God was ever present and her life was a shining example of her love for Jesus. It was mentioned often how kind and selfless she was, always putting others first. Marilyn enjoyed walking, flower gardening, politics, card clubs, bowling, watching and attending baseball games, and she had a slight crush on actor Don Johnson. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her children, Debra (Jeff) Torvick of Floodwood, MN, Kathy (Jim) Keller of Austin, MN, Jodi (Bill) Wangen of Austin, MN; four grandchildren, Dustin (Kristen Berns-Wolfs and her daughters Kara, and Nikki) Kaercher, Zach (Shelly Rollie and her son Kaeden) Wangen, Becky (Paul Beattie) Wangen, Brooke (Justin) Skywolfe-Brown; three great grandchildren, Kali (Curtis Sorenson) Kaercher, Caitlin Kaercher, Lauren Kaercher; two great-great grandchildren, Sophie Kaercher and Callen Sorenson; siblings, Marlene Huddy of Santa Barbara, CA, Wayne (Adrianna) McClary of Las Vegas, NV, Charlene (David) Heinz of Santa Barbara, CA, Sharon (Wes) Inman of Sun City West, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

Clinton Eugene Teigen

1933-2019

August 4, 1933 - December 25, 2019 (age 86)

Clinton Eugene Teigen, age 86 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2019 at his home in Austin.

Clinton was born in Rugby, North Dakota, to Chester and Pearl (Johnson) Teigen on August 4, 1933. He graduated from Berwick High School in 1951. On May 15, 1952, Clinton enlisted into the United State Navy proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge on May 8, 1956. Following his discharge from the Navy, Clinton worked for Great Northern Railroad, during a layoff he worked at the Airforce base in Minot, North Dakota.

He married Jeanette Fevold in Berwick, North Dakota on May 25, 1958. Their marriage was blessed with three children. In 1962, Clinton worked for the USDA at Hormel Foods in Austin, retiring after 32 years. In 1989, he went to work for Geneva Meats in Geneva, Minnesota for 22 years. During his retirement, Clinton enjoyed going fishing and camping. He belonged to the American Legion in Austin and loved spending time with his family. Clinton will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Teigen of Austin, MN; children, Cindy (Tom) McCreery of Venice, Florida, Chuck (Terezia) Teigen of Austin, MN, Jacque (Dave) Thompson of Austin, MN; 5 grandchildren, Lisa (Aaron) Leonard, Brandon (Missy) Kyome, Ray (Brianne) McCreery, Aaron (Hosanna) Kjome, Hannah (Chris Nelson) Thompson; 11 great grandchildren, Noah, Lauren, Olivia, Kiley, Noraa, Brady, Natty, Everly, Ryder, Paisleigh, Remy; sister-in-law Bonnie Teigen of Rugby, North Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Pearl Teigen; and two brothers, Calvin Teigen and Curtis Teigen.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin. Military honors are by the American Legion Post 91 and V.F.W. Edwin “Ed” Christopherson, age 64 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society – Comforcare in Austin.

Ed was born September 22, 1955 in Austin, Minnesota, to Lyle and Elaine (Jensen) Christopherson. On October 22, 1977, he married Debra Headington in Austin. Together they raised three children. Ed worked for Hormel Foods in Austin and retired in 2015 after a 33-year career. Ed cherished his relationships with his family, friends and co-workers. His big personality always lightened the mood and put a smile on everyone’s face, everyone knew when “Big Ed” had arrived. He enjoyed golfing, taking care of his yard/flowers, fishing and washing his truck. You could find him most summer nights watching the Minnesota Twins, but what really brought joy to Ed was spending time with his wife, three boys and his six grand kids.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Christopherson of Austin, MN; children, Matt Christopherson of Austin, MN, Corey (Staci) Christopherson of Eden Prairie, MN, Darrin (Laura) Christopherson of Rochester, MN; six grandchildren, Kya, Mikah, Olivia, Westin, Lea, Calin; siblings, Jennel (Pete) Hines of Austin, MN, Marlene Ohm of Brownsdale, MN, Dean (Edie) Christopherson of Pengilly, MN, Connie Sylvster of Rochester, MN; mother-in-law, Jane Headington of Austin, MN; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sherry (Steve) Hines of Harmony, MN, Roxy (Connie) Headington of Houston, TX, Julie Holland of Austin, MN, Jim (Michele) Headington of Mankato, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert Elwin Meyer

1926-2019

December 4, 1926 - December 26, 2019 (age 93)

Robert Elwin “Bob” Meyer, age 93 of Waltham, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester, Saint Marys Campus.

Robert was born December 4, 1926, to Arnold and Elenora (Wuertz) Meyer in Waltham, MN. Bob was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waltham. He attended parochial school for 8 years and graduated from Austin High School in 1944.

On June 29, 1946, he was united in marriage to Florence Muller. Together they resided on the family farm near Waltham for 69 years where they raised four children. Bob enjoyed farming his entire life, but his family was what he truly lived for. He was the one his family turned to in good times and bad, and he remained in that role until his dying day. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports and traveling with Florence whenever possible. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, always ready to talk and provide a cookie or two.

In his later years, spending time with his many coffee buddies gave him great joy. Bob was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He served on the parochial school board and the church council for many years and especially enjoyed working with others on many building improvement projects. He also was very active in his community, serving on the boards of the Hayfield Nursing Home, the Hayfield Lumber Company and the Brownsdale Coop Elevator for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Meyer; parents, Arnold and Elenora Meyer; brother, Arnold Meyer; sisters, Irma (Vernon) Mueller and Theadale Eggleston.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waltham, Minnesota. Ronald Lynn Mielke

1935-2019

July 7, 1935 - December 26, 2019 (age 84)

Ronald L. Mielke, age 84 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Hillcrest Rehabilitation Center in Mankato, Minnesota.

Ronald was born on July 7, 1935 to Ernest & Irene Mielke in Dexter, Minnesota. Ronald attended Austin High School, graduating in 1953. After high school, Ronald attended some college classes, and in 1958 enlisted in the Air Force Reserve serving until 1962. Upon completing his military service, Ronald started worked for Hormel R&D Research in 1954 and after a 40-year career, he retired in 1994.

While working at Hormel, Ronald married his love, Susan Braithwaite on March 20, 1976, in Northwood, Iowa. The couple then later resided in Lansing, Minnesota. Ronald was an avid member of the Eagles Club, and was passionate about model airplanes and guns, he was a very skilled gun smith. He also enjoyed motorcycling, taking many trips to Sturgis, bowling, going on walks, and doing crossword puzzles. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ronald is survived by a loving family, including his wife of 43 years, Susan; two daughters, Rochelle of Chicago IL & Rhonda of Janesville, MN; son, Robert of Colorado Springs CO; five grandchildren, Chelsea, Alicia, Melissa, Kellen, Jagger; brother and sister-in-law, Nancy (Roger) Oelkers, Paul (Kathy) Braithwaite; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents Ernest & Irene Mielke, and his sister Gayle Nehman.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service on Friday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Services are prearranged and performed with Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.

Bob William Schulz

1930-2019

Bob Schulz, 89 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at the Adams Health Care Center.

Bob was born April 14, 1930 on the family farm in Udolpho Township, Mower County, Minnesota to William and Hattie (Goehtz) Schulz. He graduated from Austin High School in 1948. Following high school, he attended Austin Junior College. In 1950 he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served until 1954. After his service, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mankato State University.

Bob married Jan Schaub on September 6, 1956 in Mankato, Minnesota. The lived in Mankato until 1963 when they moved to Red Wing for three years before moving to Austin in 1966. Bob worked as a Social Worker and retired in 1989 as the Director of Mower County Human Services.

Bob was a dedicated member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin where he was very involved in many aspects of the church. In retirement, he volunteered at Southgate Elementary School and later worked as a Paraprofessional. He did some cooking and gardening. Bob loved reading the newspaper, and at one point in time, he had subscriptions to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Rochester Post Bulletin, and Austin Daily Herald. He was a fair-weather sports fan, and enjoyed watching the Twins and Vikings.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jan in 2004; brother, Harlan Schulz; and sister, Lucille Schreiber.

Bob is survived by his children: Robin (John) Madsen, Bloomington, Minnesota, Steve (Brenda) Schulz, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Anne Schulz, Austin, Minnesota; five grandchildren: Megan Schulz, Los Angeles, California, Allison Schulz, St. Paul, Minnesota, Joe (Rebekah) Schulz, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Caroline Madsen, Atlantic, Iowa, and Katherine Madsen, Boston, Massachusetts; two great grandsons: Samuel and Nicholas Schulz; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4th at St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Reverend James Groleau officiating. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday one hour before the service. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with Austin Post #91 American Legion and Olaf B. Damm Post #1216 in charge of military rites.

Martha Caroline (Bungum, Drake) Campbell

Martha Caroline (Bungum) Campbell, 90, of Austin, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019, surrounded by her family.

Martha was born December 25, 1929, at home in Dodge County to Bennie and Anna (Larson) Bungum. She graduated from Kasson High School in1949, attended Kaehler Methodist Nursing School and graduated in 1955. She worked as a labor and delivery nurse for 35 years. In November 1955, Martha married Douglas Drake and had two children, Donovan and Debra. They would later divorce. In July 1979, she married Earl "Bud" Campbell.

Martha was the Past Commander of the Arnold Brandt DAV Unit 27 Auxiliary.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl "Bud" Campbell; parents, Bennie and Anna Bungum; brothers, Palmer Bungum, Knut Bungum and Bennie Bungum; sister, Gladys Kohn.

Martha is survived by her children: Donovan (Cindy) Drake, Debra Drake, Darlene Dahlberg, Craig Campbell, Cindy (Steve) Schlichter, Karen (Dan) Kerrigan, Jeff (Julie) Campbell, Harold (Vicki) Gaul; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; sisters, Alpha Jensen, Ruth Stevens; brother, Garhart Bungum.

Funeral services will be held 11 am on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Madison Chelberg officiating. Friends may call from 4-7 pm on Wednesday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Peter Thomas Schmitz

1955-2019

Peter T. Schmitz, 64 of Adams, Minnesota, died peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Austin, Minnesota, on October 18, 1955 to Joseph and Helen (Bauer) Schmitz. He graduated from Adams High School in 1973 and married Renee Hemingway at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams on October 27, 1978, they later divorced.

Throughout his life he worked as an electrician at Schmitz Electric and owned his own company Schmitz and Daughters. He was very active in the community serving on the Adams Fire Department for 30 years; 10 years as Chief and was in his second term on the Adams City Council. In his spare time Pete liked to ride his Harley and spend time with his beloved daughters and grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Michael Schmitz and niece, Michelle (Schmitz) Meyer.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Theresa (David) Freese, Rochester, MN, Kathy Jo (Chris) Kiefer, Stewartville, MN, Leslie (Josh) Taylor, Osage, IA, and Joni (Winston) Smith, Algona, IA; grandchildren: Kyle, Allicia, Ava, Gavin, Owen, Weston, Brynley, Beau, Vince, Varity, Houston and Lucy; siblings: Patrick (Peg) Schmitz, Austin, MN; Louise (Norman, Sr) Eastman, McIntyre, IA; sister-in-law: Mary Schmitz; many beloved nieces and nephews, and his dog Mia.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 3rd at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams with Father Swaminatha Pothireddy and Father Don Schmitz officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, and will continue Friday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy J. Sundt, 88 of Burnsville, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2019.

Dorothy was born July 24, 1931 in Austin, Minnesota, to Everett and Mary (Christiensen) Staley. She graduated from Austin High School in 1949. Dorothy married James Sundt on October 18, 1958, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. They resided in Burnsville, Minnesota where they raised their two sons and Dorothy worked as an Elementary School Aide.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; parents; brother, Donald Staley; and sister, Evelyn Morrison.

Dorothy is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: John and Jeanine Sundt of St. Paul and Donald and Heather Sundt of Edina; grandchildren: Coleman Sundt and Jordan Sundt; sister-in-law: LaDonna Quick of St. James, MN; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at the Klecatsky and Sons Funeral Chapel located at 1580 Century Point, Eagan, Minnesota on Thursday, January 2nd from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 3rd at St. Olaf Lutheran Church ~ 306 2nd Street NW in Austin with the Reverend Madison Chelberg officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service. Interment will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery.

Elsie Carol (Klein, Schamberger) Forsythe

1935-2019

Elsie Carol (Klein) Schamberger Forsythe, age 84 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the Cedars of Austin in Austin, Minnesota.

She was born on February 4, 1935 at Grafton, North Dakota hospital to Julius William Klein and Phillahomen Beatrice (Willet) Klein from Glasston, North Dakota. When she was eight, they moved to Orr, North Dakota where she lived until she graduated High School at Grand Forks Central in 1953. She attended Technical college in Minneapolis for lab and X-ray technician and graduated in 1954 as a Medical Technologist.

She went to work at the hospital in Hazen, North Dakota where she met Carroll Schamberger. They married March 31, 1956. They lived most of their life together on their farm in Ada, Minnesota. Elsie graduated from Detroit Lakes Technical College as an LPN April 1992. Carroll died suddenly on May 15, 1995. On August 21, 1999 Elsie married Keith Forsythe. They lived at Woman Lake near Longville, Minnesota until October 2007 when they moved to Northfield, Minnesota.

She was a member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Northfield, Minnesota. Elsie spent her last few years at the Cedars Senior care facility in Austin, Minnesota where she brightened the lives of those around her with her infectious smile and witty one liners. She attended Cornerstone Church in Austin, Minnesota. She played piano and accordion as well as playing the organ at her church. She was a line dance leader and led water aerobics. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening. Elsie was a talented animal caregiver, especially talented at keeping newborn calves, pigs and chickens healthy. With great patience she taught all of her cats to tolerate being vacuumed to remove their dander. Elsie will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Survivors include her children, Kenneth (Kristine Barbie) Schamberger of Austin, Minnesota, Carolyn Chamulak of Streamwood, Illinois, and Allen (Dede) Schamberger of Shawnee, Kansas; brother, Earl Klein of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; sisters-in-law, LaVonne Woods of Omaha, Nebraska, and Sandy Croce of Laguna Woods, California; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Phillahomen Klein both husbands, Carroll Schamberger and Keith Forsythe; brother William; and son, Paul Schamberger.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Northfield, Minnesota. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment was held in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Green Meadow Township, near Ada Minnesota. Services are being performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.

Lucille Eva (Kerling) Ramlo

Lucille Eva Ramlo, age 95 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Our House Memory Care in Austin.

Lucille was born December 24, 1924 in Austin, Minnesota, to Mathias and Katharina (Meyer) Kerling. She graduated from St. Augustine’s High School in 1943.

On April 12, 1947, Lucille was united in marriage to Donald Ramlo in Austin. Together they raised five daughters. She loved her role as homemaker, wife, and mother. A member of the Ramsey Ladies Club, Lucille was also a longtime member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, where she was active in ALCW and sang in the choir for many years. She enjoyed needlepoint, sewing, spending time with her family and friends, and loved attending all of Pat’s music concerts.

Lucille is survived by her daughters, Roberta (Steven) Hansen of Eagan, Minnesota, Mary (Chris) Rodenkirchen of Fort Myers, Florida, Virginia (Kent) Tibbetts of Spokane, Washington, Particia Hulet of Austin, Minnesota, and Ruth Michaels of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; brothers, Leo (Ramona) Kerling of Austin, Minnesota, Vern Kerling of Sparta, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents Mathias and Katharina Kerling; husband, Donald Ramlo in 2015; four brothers, Edward, Donald, Matt, and Albert; three sisters, Esther Bellrichard, Tillie Schumacher, and Adeline Christianson; and sons-in-law, James Hulet and Larry Michaels.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2020, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. Visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin. Memorials are preferred to St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Our House Memory Care, or recipient of donor’s choice. Janice Marie (Hanna) Hepker

Obituary--

Janice Marie Hepker, 74, of Leroy, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28th, 2019.

Janice was born July 11th, 1945, in Mason City, Iowa, to George and Ida Eliza Hanna (Brekke). The family made their home in Fertile, Iowa, and Taopi and Leroy, Minnesota.

She attended LeRoy schools, graduating with the class of 1963. On September 3rd, 1967 Janice was united in marriage to Kenneth Lee Hepker at Bethany Bible Church in LeRoy. In 1976 they welcomed Alisa Joy to the family followed by Serena Mae in 1988.

Janice wore many hats. Over the years she worked for various businesses including The Sweet Shop, Head Start, AmPride, Corky’s Corner, and she volunteered time as a Girl Scout Leader. She also provided in home daycare and house cleaning. Through the years, she cared for her mother and husband as their health declined. Janice was a faithful member of Bethany Bible Church. Her most loved passion in life was her family.

She enjoyed spending time with them, taking trips and spoiling her grandchildren along with her many nieces, nephews, and neighbor kids. Janice had a special way to make everyone near her feel loved. She enjoyed being outdoors, working in her flower garden, and making sure her yard was perfect. She also loved listening to gospel music and found Brad Boyce to be very entertaining. She will be missed by so many.

Janice is survived by her two daughters, Alisa (Nathan) Schrom, Serena (Ben) Hubbell, her five grandchildren, Arik, Michelle, Samantha, Nathan Jr., and Bradford, all of Austin, MN, two brothers Duane Hanna of Coon Rapids, Marvin (Judi) Hanna of McIntire, IA, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Kenneth, her parents George and Ida Eliza, her sister Mayvis Speer, and brother Maynard Hanna.

Funeral Services for Janice will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Bethany Bible Church in LeRoy, MN. Interment will be at the LeRoy Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2 from 5-7 p.m. at Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy, and will continue for one hour at the church prior to the service on Friday.
