Cheryl Lynn (Nelson) Williams1949-2012
Cheryl Lynn Williams, 63, of Lakeville, Minnesota, went to be with her
Lord and Savior on Monday, April 2, 2012, at Rochester Methodist Hospital.
Cheryl was born in Austin, Minnesota, on January 16, 1949, to Roland and
Dorothy (Meyers) Nelson. She was raised in Lansing, Minnesota, and was a
graduate of Austin High School in 1967. She enjoyed spending time with her
grandkids, gardening, baking, entertaining, and sewing. She also enjoyed
traveling, especially her fishing trips with special friends Nick, Kathy,
and JoAnne.
Cheryl is survived by three children, Kristine (Bart) Anderson, of
Las Vegas, Nevada, Jeffrey (Elizabeth Mills) Williams, of Rosemount,
Minnesota, and Kari Bowen, of Lakeville; two granddaughters, Kaitlyn
and Jordan Bowen, of Lakeville; three sisters, Phyllis (Richard) Trabert,
of Eagan, Minn., Deloris (Michael) Harber, of Austin and Connie (Terry)
Bonnes, of Rochester, Minn.; her mother, Dorothy Nelson, of Rosemount;
and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Roland; her infant daughter,
Michelle Ann Williams; and her grandparents.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2012,
at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home, Rochester. Visitation will be from 4
to 7 P.M. on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home
and an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take
place at Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield at the foot of her father’s grave.

Kenneth L. Grever, 83 1928-2012
Kenneth L. Grever, 83, of Brownsdale, Mower county, Minnesota, died on
Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Fieldcrest Care Center in Hayfield, Minnesota.
He was born September 26, 1928, in Lake Zurich, Illinois, to George and
Martha (Hapke) Grever. On July 28, 1956, Kenneth married Joyce (Holub)
Grever at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lake Zurich. They lived in Lake
Zurich until 1974, moving to Blooming Prairie, Minn. at that time, and
then to Brownsdale in 2003. Kenneth was a farmer all his life. A member
of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brownsdale, Kenneth also was a Farm Bureau
member, a hybrid seed dealer, a church board member, and active in numerous
church committees.
Survivors include his wife Joyce Grever of Hayfield, formerly of
Brownsdale; sons Gene (Geri) Grever of Wauconda, Illinois, William Grever
of Brownsdale; daughter Alecia Grever of Kenosha, Wisconsin; five
grandchildren, Marc (Sarah) Grever, Christopher Boelter, Macayla Grever,
Noah Grever, and Matthew Grever; one great-grandchild Sophia Grever; six
siblings, Esther, Orville, Joan, Robert, Donna, and George; many nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Martha Grever; eight
brothers and sisters, Ella, Laura, Harry, Fred, Earl, Annette, Marion, and
Elmer.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Our
Savior Lutheran Church in Brownsdale with Pastor Jeffery Sage officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The
family prefers that memorials be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church in
Brownsdale and Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Pleasant Prairie,

Ollene Lavonne (Granle)(Matthiesen) Leutink 1924-2012
Ollene Lavonne (Matthiesen) Leutink, 87, died Monday, April 2, 2012, at
St. Mary’s Hospital.
Ollene was born April 20, 1924, in Ionia, Chickasaw county, Iowa to Anton
and Elsie Granle. She attended country schools in the Austin, Minn. area
and graduated Austin High School in 1942.
Ollene married Donnie Matthiesen on February 21, 1942. She spent most
of the next years raising her family. She went to work at the Methodist
Hospital in Rochester, Minn. in 1968 after the youngest went to school.
She worked there until 1974. After Don was killed in 1972, she moved to
Spring Valley, Minnesota. She met and married Earl Leutink in April 1974.
She opened a craft and hobby shop in 1975. Earl passed away in 1983.
She then moved to Sparta, Wis. for one year before moving back to
Minnesota where she lived in the Senior Citizen apartments in Mantorville,
Minn. for approximately eleven years where life consisted of family
get-togethers, church, card playing and crossword puzzles. From there
she moved to Pine Island assisted living in 2007 and then into the nursing
home. Ollene truly enjoyed visits from her many grandchildren; she was
extremely proud of each of them.
Ollene is survived by two sons, David Matthiesen of Mantorville and
Dennis (Shelley) Matthiesen of Oronoco, Minn.; six daughters, Darlene
Carroll of O’Fallon, Mo., Delores (Rodney) Wolf of Sparta, Wis., Diane
Hagan of Mantorville, Dorothy Matthiesen of Fridley, Minn., Debra Matthiesen
of Zumbrota, Minn., and Denise Matthiesen of Stewartville, Minn. Ollene has
15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren,
sister Betty Gilbertson of Jackson, Minn., stepdaughter Kathy Leibold and
numerous step-grandchildren.
Ollene is preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, husband Donnie
Matthiesen and second husband Earl Leutink, two sons Duane and Dean,
son-in-law Howard Hagan, daughter-in-law Marge Matthiesen, grandson
Jim Matthiesen and two step-children.
Friends and family may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 8 at Dibble
Funeral Home in Kasson, Minn. and one hour before the service on Monday,
April 9 at First Congregational Church in Mantorville, Minn., with services
beginning at 11 a.m. A light luncheon will be served after the services in
the church. Following the luncheon guests are welcome to join the family at
Lansing Cemetery.

Archie Harold Baley, 90 1921-2012
Archie Harold Baley, 90, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Saturday, March
31, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Archie Harold Baley was born November 9, 1921, in Oakland Township in
Freeborn County, Minnesota to Arthur J. and Frances J (Cafourek) Baley. He
attended grade school District 75 in Freeborn County. He moved with his
family to Mower County in 1933 and attended District 12 Dufty School. He
graduated from Austin High School in 1941. Archie worked with his father
as a young man and did carpentry work. He also worked on farms until he
began employment with George A. Hormel Company. He was employed there for
33 years, retiring in 1980.
On November 10, 1948, Archie was united in marriage to Mildred M. Mayzlik,
in Austin, Minn. To this union three children were born, Mary Jane, Verne,
and Randal. Archie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austin. He also
was a member of the United Commercial Travelers Fraternal Benefit Society,
ZCBJ Czech Lodge No. 38 for 75 years, Western Fraternal Life Association,
and the Austin Eagles, Lookout Aerie, No. 703 for more than 60 years.
Archie’s interests were fishing in Canada with his friends. He also liked
hunting. He enjoyed his Class of 1941 breakfasts and visiting with his
classmates. Most important of all to Archie was his loving family.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mildred, Austin; daughter,
Mary Jane Miller, Portland, Ore.; sons Verne (Katharine) Baley, Anoka,
Randal Baley, Austin; three grandchildren, Danielle and Aaron Baley,
Anoka, Mariela Miller, Portland; brother, Robert Baley, Sr., Myrtle,
sister Georgia Oxley, Austin; nieces, nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Frances Baley;
sister, Evelyn Kos; son-in-law, Bill Miller; brother-in-law, Allen Oxley.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Grace
Lutheran Church in Austin with Rev. Jeff Forbes officiating. Friends may
call at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and
at the church one hour prior to the service.

Marcus A. Brooks, 80 1931-2012
Marcus A. Brooks, 80, died on Sunday, April 1, 2012, of mantle cell
lymphoma at his home in Austin, Minnesota, surrounded by family.
Marcus was born November 18, 1931, in Austin to Art Brooks and Geneva
Brooks (Gamit). He graduated Austin High School in 1950, and married
Sharrene Brooks (Jacobson) on June 17, 1956, in Austin. He got his
associates degree and went on to work for Hormel Corp. as a scale mechanic.
Bowling, fishing, camping and traveling were all hobbies of Marcus’. He
also enjoyed spending time with family, friends and especially his
grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Sharrene of Austin; daughters, Darcee of
Austin and Sherry of Minneapolis; on-in-law, Bill Tresh; grandchildren,
Isabella Mangold Brooks, Sam Mangold Brooks, Geraldo Ortiz, Ruby Tresch;
great-grandson, Caleb Voogd; Allyson, Brianna and Courtney, all of Austin;
and special canine companion Louie.
He was preceded in death by parents Art and Geneva Brooks, Austin;
mother-in-law and father-in-law, Isabel and Walter Bungum and daughter
Brooks of Bemidji, Minnesota; and surrogate brothers, Kenny and Colby Brooks.
Marcus made a friends where ever he went. Had a smile and a kind comment
for everyone. He will be dearly missed. No service will be held, per request
of the deceased. Memorials may be made to the family or the Lymphoma Research
Foundation.

Gloria Jean (Bustad) TRAFF 1945-2012
Gloria Jean Traff, 66, of Caledonia, Minnesota, died on Friday, March
30, 2012, at Caledonia Care and Rehab.
Gloria Jean Traff was born December 15, 1945, in Austin, Minnesota, to Emil
and Lillie (Schroeder) Traff. She graduated from the Austin High School in
1963. On April 16, 1966, she married Richard William Bustad. They had three
children Sherri, Ricky, and Ryan, and was a foster parent to nine other
children. They were later divorced in 1988. Richard passed away in 1992.
She was a licensed real estate agent and optician living in Austin for 54
years before moving to Colorado for ten years. In 2009 she returned to
Minnesota and has resided in Caledonia.
She enjoyed going fishing with family to Leech Lake and the Boundary
Waters, playing cards, crafts, cooking and baking, and especially spending
time with her family and friends.
Gloria is survived by her three children, Sherri Zsitvay and Rick Bustad
both of Fort Collins, Colo., and Ryan Bustad of Wellington, Colo.; six
grandchildren Alexis, Alise, Annabella, Briar, Brooklyn, and Lily; three
siblings Norma Bray, Lester (Barbara) Traff and Leona (John) Detwiler, all
of Austin, Minn.; aunts Helen Schroeder of Caledonia, Amanda Olson of Spring
Grove, Phyllis Traff of LaCrescent and Evelyn Kessel of LaCrosse, Wis.;
nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; three
great-nephews James Bray, Jakob Detwiler, and Thad Holtz; cousins Vernon
and Darrell Olson, and Kenneth Traff; aunts and uncles Everett Traff, Alvin
Traff, Bud Kessel, Arnold Schroeder, John Olson, Lillian Bresaw, Clara and
Versell Pohlman, Marvin Meiners, Carl and Dorothy Schroeder, and Ella Meiners.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the Mabel
First Lutheran Church in Mabel, Minn. with the Rev. Gail Klavetter
officiating. Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 3 at the Mengis
Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.

Robert Darwin Fuller 1927-2012
Robert Darwin Fuller, 84, of St. Cloud, Minnesota, died on Sunday,
April 1, 2012, at the St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud.
Robert was born June 26, 1927, in Rochester, Minn. to Claude and
Ardath (Hermann) Fuller. He attended Austin, Minn. public schools.
Robert served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II
and in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On April 27,
1957, Robert was united in marriage to Marjorie Eastman at Concordia
Lutheran Church in Jamestown, N.D.
As a young man Robert worked for Minnesota Amusement Company as
theater manager. He then managed the 1601 Shell for several years and
then went to work for the St. Cloud Hospital, retiring in 1983. Robert
was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and a life member of Waite Park
American Legion Post No. 428.
Survivors include his wife Marjorie Fuller of St. Cloud; daughters,
Dallas (Tom) Wakefield of St. Cloud, Dana Jo (Brian) Toon of Millersville,
Md., Ann (Bob) Larson of Austin; three grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and sister, Dolores Mitchell of Palm Desert, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Gene Fuller.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at
Redeemer Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, Minn. The Rev. Bruce Timm will
officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 3, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m.
at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud and one hour prior to the service at the
church on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans
Cemetery, Little Falls, Minn.
Memorials are preferred to Prince of Peace Lutheran School Scholarship
Fund or Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Jeannine C. Birk, 73, Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, April 2, 2012,
at her home surrounded by family.
She was born in Austin, Minnesota, to Leo and Viola Rauen on April
29, 1938. On February 15, 1958 she married Russell F. Birk, Jr. of Austin,
and they made their home in Bloomington, Minnesota and then moved to a hobby
farm in New Prague where they raised their family. Jeannine was a gifted
cake decorator and baker. Jeannine enjoyed spending time at their lake
home and playing cards with family and friends.
Jeannine is preceded in death by her husband, Russell Birk, her
parents, Leo and Viola Rauen, and a grandson, William Birk.
Jeannine is survived by her children Russell Birk III (Nancy) of Aurora,
Minnesota; Dorothy Johnson (Tom) of New Prague, Minnesota; Darrell Birk
(Gloria) of Smyrna, Tennessee; Richard Birk (Kay) of Shakopee, Minnesota;
Holly Brezina (Richard) of Lonsdale, Minnesota; Fred Birk (Rose) of New
Prague, Minnesota; and Ellie Birk (Gary) of Jordan, Minnesota; 24
grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and brothers Ray Rauen (Carol),
Phil Rauen (Lori), Tom Rauen (Diann); sisters Caroline Huber (Galen),
Sally Klapperick, Janice Palmeri (John), Rosie LaFrance (Dana), Linda
Ivanic (Jim), Leann Jacobson (Rick) and Sandy Auringer (Mark).

Franklin Arledge Highley 1924-2012
Franklin Arledge Highley, 88, of Austin, Minnesota, and formerly of
Iowa Falls, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Our House
Assisted Living in Austin, under their care and the loving care of
daughter, Helen.
Franklin was born on January 11, 1924, to Ira Jackson and Anna Josephine
(Whitesell) Highley on the family home east of Iowa Falls, Iowa. He attended
the Iowa Falls schools and graduated with the class of 1943.
Franklin served his country with the 91st Division, 346th Field Artillery,
Division Headquarters Battery as a Communications Telephone Field Lineman.
He served in North Africa and Italy and received the Bronze Star award with
two other soldiers during the unit’s 249 days of sustained combat.
On Easter Sunday, April 21, 1946, Franklin was united in marriage to
Betty Lucille Foust at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. To this
union three daughters were born: Linda Lou, Helen Diane, and Debra Kay.
Franklin worked for Iowa Electric Light and Power as an electric
meterman for 41 years retiring at 60 years on June 30, 1984. He served as a
volunteer fireman with the Iowa Falls Fire Department for many years. He
was a member of Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post 188, Iowa Falls and with
the Legion’s Honor Guard.
He enjoyed family, friends, fishing, golfing, gardening, and traveling
down the road. He was famous for his sweet pickles.
Franklin is survived by his daughters: Linda Hayne, Waukee, Iowa, Helen
(Randall) Mickelson, Austin, Debra (Donald) Kemp, Urbandale, Iowa; seven
grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two step
great grandchildren; his 102-year-old sister: Anabel Ostheimer, Iowa Falls;
and many loved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father: Ira Highley; his mother and
step-father: Anna and Cady Bacon; his wife: Betty Highley; a son-in-law:
Jeffrey Eaton; and his sisters: Dorothy Bump and Virginia Thompson.
Funeral services for Franklin will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2012,
at the Linn’s Funeral Home, 1521 Washington Ave., Iowa Falls, Iowa. A time
of visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time also Thursday at the
Linn’s Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery, Dows, Iowa.

Tracy P. Brandt, age 42, of Austin, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday,
March 31, 2012.
Tracy was born March 26, 1970 in Austin to Harold and Sandi (Rehnelt)
Brandt. He grew up in Austin where he was baptized and confirmed at St.
Edward's Catholic Church. Tracy graduated from Austin High School. He
went on to attend Austin Community College, Moorhead State University and
he graduated from Mankato State University. Tracy excelled in sports, but
his passion was football. He is a member of the Moorhead State Hall of
Fame Team.
Tracy loved spending time with his family, especially the love of his
life, his daughter, McKenna. Most recently, Tracy enjoyed beating his
dad in golf and reminding him of it.
Survivors include his daughter, McKenna Brandt, Byron; parents,
Harold and Sandi Brandt, Austin; sister, Chris (Ron) Steiner, Circle
Pines; niece and nephew, Cassie Steiner and Jacob Steiner, both of Circle
Pines; grandfather, Leonard Rehnelt, Austin; special friend, Jen Hoff,
Minneapolis; aunts and uncles, Steve (Rita) Rehnelt, Wabasha, Jeanette
(Steve) Myers, Claremont, Roberta (Mark) Aswegan, Ramsey, Mike (Lila)
Rehnelt, Hayfield, Robert Rehnelt, Zumbro Falls, Kenneth (Joyce) Brandt,
Austin; many cousins.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Phillip and Evelyn

Erwin Schmidt, 901921-2012
Erwin Schmidt, 90, of Wichita, Kansas, and formerly of Austin, Minnesota,
died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at his daughter and son-in-law’s home in
Wichita.
Erwin was born September 18, 1921, in Brownsdale, Minn. to John and
Hattie (Ohm) Schmidt. He married Hilda Polnau on June 26, 1943, at the
Trinity Lutheran Church in Waltham, Minn. He worked for 43 years for Hormel
Foods, retiring in 1983.
Erwin was an active member of St John’s Lutheran Church, until moving to
Wichita in November 2011, and was involved with the Sunday morning radio
broadcast where he took over the duties in 1978 as chief engineer. He was
a licensed amateur radio operator, belonged to the Austin Amateur Radio
Club and was a Skywarn Spotter for Mower County Civil Defense. He was
active with the Red Cross and worked many parades in Austin.
He previously enjoyed working on his acerage east of Austin, fishing,
photography, going on many trips, playing 500 and spending time with his
family. He was named Mower County Fair’s Outstanding Senior Citizen of
the year in 2007.
Erwin is survived by his wife, Hilda of Wichita; son, Douglas Schmidt
(friend Christine Schwanke) of Rochester, Minn.; daughter Michelle and
husband David Webster of Wichita. He is also survived by grandchildren

Obituary.
Todd Trowbridge, 84, 601 21st Ave. N.W., Austin, was born on April 2,
1906 to Fred and Nellie Trowbridge.
Mr. Trowbridge attended Highway 105 country school and Austin High
School.
He was married to Lucille Perine on June 24, 1928 at Lakeshore of
Fairmont, Minnesota.
Mr Trowbridge's business activities included vegetable farming near
Hollandale, Musician in Austin, carpentry in Oklahoma and a truck driver
for Kinsmans and Railroad Express.
Todd Trowbridge died on April 26, 1990 at St. Olaf Hospital, Austin,
Minnesota. Funeral services were held on April 30, 1990, at Church
of the Open Bible with Pastor Charles Rainwater officiating. Soloists
were Helen Johnson, Roger Campbell and James Whitcomb. Ruth Sweetser
was organist. A Bette Midler tape, "You Are the Wind Beneath My Wings"
was played and dedicated to Todd from his children and grandchildren.
Pre-recorded songs and a poem, "Bridge Builder," sung and read by Todd
Trowbridge were played.
Interment was in Enterprise Cemetery. Pallbearers were Carol Trowbridge
(daughter), Tim Sauer (son-in-law), James Sauer (grandson), Chris Sauer
(grandson), Phil Johnson (nephew), and Lester Volson (nephew).
At the reception a tape of "Somewhere My Love," recorded by Todd and
dedicated to his loved ones was played.
Surviving are his wife, Lucille Trowbridge, Austin; two daughters, June
Summers, Wildwood, Florida, and Carol Trowbridge, Austin; grandchildren,
Dan and Kristi Fox, Apoka, Florida, Doug Summers, Apoka, Florida, Jamie
Summers, Wildwood, Florida, Jim Sauer, Austin, Melany Sauer, Rochester,
Chris Sauer, Austin; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beryl Wright.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother and a sister.

George D. Zahradnik 1935-2012
George D. Zahradnik, age 76 of Austin, died Monday March 26, 2012 at
Our House Memory Care in Austin. He was born October 6, 1935 in Jackson
County, Minnesota to Rudy and Mary (Zahorsky) Zahradnik. George grew up
and attended school in Jackson County. He was a farmer in Jackson County
and in the Austin area, where he moved in the early 1950’s.
George and Kay Eagen were married for 15 years, raising sons Mike and
Tom and daughter Peggy before divorcing. George later married Evelyn Naylor,
raising a son John. They later divorced. George loved farming and being
outside. His occupation brought him a great sense of pride.
Survivors include his daughter Peggy (Bruce) Eckloff of Oronoco; two sons,
Tom Zahradnik of St. Peter and John Zahradnik of Austin; one grandson,
Joseph; brother David (Doris) Zahradnik of Clear Lake, Iowa; nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rudy and Mary; son Mike; brother
Jim; sister Blanche.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday March 30, 2012 at the
Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Reverend Shari Mason officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in
Grandview Cemetery.

Lloyd Verdayne Swenson, 86 1925-2012
Lloyd Verdayne Swenson, 86 of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday,
April 4, 2012, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin.
He was born May 15, 1925, in Houston County, Minnesota to Arvid and
Dorothy (Findreng) Swenson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Stone
Church and attended schools in Fillmore and Houston Counties, graduating
from Houston High School in 1943. After enlisting in the U.S. Navy and
serving for three years, he attended St. Olaf College, graduating in 1950.
On April 9, 1955, Lloyd and Ramona Palmer were united in marriage at Bear
Creek Lutheran Church near Grand Meadow. Lloyd spent his life as an educator,
teaching math and driver education at Canton, Minn., Blooming Prairie, Minn.
and Austin High Schools. Since his retirement in 1984, he has served as a
member of the Minnesota State Board of Education, St. Mark’s Lutheran Home
Board, Good Earth Village Board, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Sons of
Norway, Izaak Walton League, Retired Educators and the American Legion
Honor Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Ramona of Austin; three sons and
daughters-in-law, Lee (Barbara) Swenson of Maplewood, Minn., David
(Kara) Swenson of Boone, Iowa, Scott (Kris) Swenson of St. Paul; six
grandchildren, Kyrsten, Kyle, Austin, Luke, Cameron, and Parker Swenson;
brothers and sisters-in-law, John Swenson of Newport, Wash., Alma Swenson
of Spring Grove, Minn., Annette Swenson of Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada;
brothers-in-laws, Norman (Patricia) Palmer of Rochester, Minn., Curtis
(Patricia) Palmer of Happy Jack, Arizona, Leslie (Anne) Palmer of
Tucson, Arizona; nieces, nephews, cousins. He was preceded in death
by his parents Arvid and Dorothy, one sister, Dorothy Ann Swenson

Fred Adelbert Trowbridge1875-1943
Obituary.
Fred Trowbridge
Fred Adelbert Trowbridge, 68, died on Monday at 11 a.m. at his home
in Maple Island near Hollandale. He had been ill about a month.
Mr. Trowbridge was born on May 22, 1875, in Lyle township, Mower
county, Minnesota, the son of Henry C. and Roxanna Chandler Trowbridge. He
lived on a farm in Lyle township, south of Austin, until the spring of 1919
when he moved to Austin where he lived until 1933. In 1933 he moved to
Maple Island, Hollandale, where he had since resided.
He attended school in Lyle township and Southern Minnesota Normal
College in Austin.
On February 22, 1905, he married Nellie B. Wilder in Lyle township.
Mrs. Trowbridge died on May 3, 1930.
Mr. Trowbridge engaged in farming except for the time he was in Austin
when he was associated with A.N. Kinsman, Inc.
On September 15, 1936, he married Mrs. Lottie Dixon of Carmen, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, John Todd Trowbridge of Austin, and
Freeman Adelbert Trowbridge of the U.S. Army, stationed at Camp Chaffee,
Arkansas, two daughters, Mrs. Elva Whitehead of Sherburne, and Mrs. Beryl
Wright of Hollandale, ten grandchildren and four stepchildren.
Brothers and sisters surviving are Mrs. Nettie Warrington of Austin,
Mrs. Ethel Clark of Goendale, California, Mrs. Grace Wilder of Minneapolis,
Harry C. Trowbridge and George T. Trowbridge, both of Minneapolis.
Funeral services were held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the United Brethren
Church of Austin. Rev. P. W. McFarland officiated. Burial was in Woodbury
Cemetery, Lyle, Minnesota. The Freeborn County Funeral Association had
charge of arrangements.

MRS. F. TROWBRIDGE,
SUCCUMBS AT AGE 48,
AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Mrs. Fred Trowbridge died at 8 o'clock this morning at her home, at
805 North Kenwood Avenue, following many years of suffering during which
time she underwent several operations.
The funeral will be held at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Methodist
church, Rev. Warner Johnson officiated. Interment will be in Woodbury
Cemetery, with a short service.
Nellie Beatrice Wilder, daughter of P.K. and Emma Wilder, was born April
29, 1882 in Lyle township, where she lived with her parents until her
marriage on February 22, 1905 to Fred Trowbridge. They lived in the
vicinity of Austin until 1920 when they moved into the city which has
since been the family home.
She leaves besides her husband, to mourn her death, four children: Todd,
of Hollandale and Elva B. Freeman and Beryl at home; her mother, Mrs. P.K.
Wilder of Austin; three brothers: Hollis and George of Glendale, California,
and Bert of Adams, and two sisters, Mrs. Grace Roche and Miss Flossie Wilder
of Austin.
Mrs. Trowbridge was a loving wife and mother and devoted to her family.
Her chief ambition was to live until her children were grown and through
her years of suffering she maintained a fortiture and endurance that was
almost beyond belief.
She was a good christian woman and during her residence in Austin was
affilitated with the Methodist Church.

Cynthia Jane (Reko) Streiff 1948-2012
Cynthia Jane (Reko) Streiff, 63, of Austin, Minn. died Wednesday, April
4, 2012, at Rochester Methodist Hospital due to complications from cancer.
Cindy was born May 11, 1948, in Park Rapids to Jesse Merton and Marvel
Lavina (Ladely) Reko. She grew up in Park Rapids where she graduated from
high school. She attended beauty school at St. Cloud Beauty College and
moved to Minneapolis, Minn. where she worked for five years.
Cindy met the love of her life, Marvin, and a year later they were
married on Aug. 18, 1973, in Park Rapids. They then resided in Zumbrota
for many years before moving to Austin.
Cindy was a member of the Crane Community Chapel in Austin, Minn.
She was very proud of her boys and grandchildren. She battled her
cancer to the very end with a strong will to survive.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin; two sons, Matthew (Sarah) and
Joshua (friend Sarah); one daughter, Stacey (Ken) Hormann; three
grandchildren, Chase Streiff, Jordan and Joseph Sorenson; sister,
Judith (Roger) Harsha; brother, Joseph (Wendy) Reko; brothers-in-law,
Darold (Shirley) and Larry (Lynette) and one niece and many nephews.
Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law Haven and
Florence and special friend, Sinthia Nelson.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. on Monday, April 9, at Crane
Community Chapel, 1111 Ninth St. NE, Austin, MN. Pastor Dale Christiansen
will officiate. Memorials are preferred to the family.
Cindy has donated her body to Mayo Anatomy Research.

Funeral services for Mrs. John J. (Alma Berdena) Holmen,
85, of McIntire, Iowa, were held on Saturday, September 15, 1984 at St.

Don Prantner
Funeral services for former Mitchell resident, Don
Prantner, 59, of Roundup, Montana, were held on Saturday, September
15, 1984 at Faith Lutheran Church, Mitchell. Rev. C. Bunk officiated
at the service.
Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Mitchell, with
military rites by the American Legion Post 278. He died on Monday,
September 10, at a hospital in Billings, Montana. Don Prantner was
born on October 2, 1924 in Seaforth, Minnesota, the son of Emil and
Emma Prantner. He moved with his parents to Austin, Minnesota, where
he grew up and was educated.
He served with the Army in World War II and returned to a
farm near Austin, Minnesota, after the war. He was united in marriage to
Geraldine Bly in 1947 at Austin. They moved to Mitchell in 1952 where he
worked as a plumber until moving to Montana in 1979. He and his son owned
a trailer manufacturing company there.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; two daughters, Mrs.
Les (Linda) Mausehund of Mitchell and Becky Prantner of Pasco, Washington;
a son, Tom of Billings, Montana; a sister, Mrs. Morris (Emily) Hansen of
Battle Lake, Minnesota; two brothers, Ed and Emil, both of Austin and by
five grandchildren.

Rose M. Thompson, 90, of Austin, Minn. was welcomed home by God on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012, with both daughters by her side.
Rose was born December 1, 1921, in Conger, Minnesota, to Jack and
Edith Somnis, where she lived with her large family until she was a
young adult. She then moved to Minneapolis and worked in a defense
plant until she was married. On Sept. 2, 1945, she married Milton
Thompson at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. The couple
moved to Austin to build a home and begin their family. Rose was a
very dedicated wife, mother and homemaker.
Rose was a member of Crane Community Chapel for nearly 50 years,
participated in the Women’s Missionary Group and served as a Sunday
School teacher for several years. Her generosity and giving nature
showed in the many ways she cared for her own children and opened her
heart and home to other children and relatives. She was the foundation
of her family and enjoyed sewing, canning, playing cards and keeping in
touch with all relatives by attending family reunions and other family
gatherings.
Survivors include two daughters, Michele (Mark) Smith, Forest City, Iowa,
Kim Mireau, Austin; five grandchildren, Angel Smith, Heather (Josh Cox)
Smith, Forest City, Jessica (Chris) Tabor, Curtis Smith and Edward Mireau,
Austin; three great-grandchildren, Aldous Cox, Forest City, Lukas and Megan
Tabor, Austin; sister, Barbara Ganske, Albert Lea, Minn.; brother, Roland
(Pat) Somnis, Conger; sister-in-law, Rose Somnis; several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Edith Somnis; husband,
Milton; great-granddaughter, Avalon; sister, Grace; four brothers, Johnny,
Bob, Thomas and James; son-in-law, Brett; sisters-in-law, Jean and Delores;
brother-in-law, Norman; three nephews, Danny, Warren and Darwin.

Vivian Jane (Palmer) Betts 1910-1984
Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 22,
1984 at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, Minnesota, for Vivian Jane
Betts, 74, who died Wednesday, September 19, 1984, at St. Mark's Rest
Home in Austin, Minnesota.
Rev. Morgan and Rev. Hejnal officiated at the service
and burial was in the Osage Cemetery. Worlein Funeral Home was in charge
of arrangements.
She was born on April 6, 1910 in Rose Creek, Minnesota,
the daughter of David A. Palmer and Anna Naversath Palmer. They lived on
a farm in Union Township, and moved to Osage in 1926. She attended the
Union Township rural school and graduated from Osage High School.
Arthur M. Betts and Vivian Jane Palmer were united in
marriage on January 25, 1935 in Charles City. They lived in Osage until
1949 when they moved to Blue Earth, Minnesota. In August of 1984 she became
a rsident of St. Mark's Rest Home in Austin, Minnesota. She was a
bookkeeper at Bett's Plumbing in Blue Earth, Minnesota for 17 years.
Vivian was a member of the Presbysterian Church, was active
in her church circle and a member of Business Women's Organization.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister,
Blanche.
Survivors include her husband, Art; one brother, Wayne of
Riverside, California; and three aunts.

Renee (Gilbertson) Holzapfel c1957-2012
Renee (Gilbertson) Holzapfel, 54, passed away Saturday, April 7 at
the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview in Minneapolis.
Renee had a lung transplant four years ago. She developed pneumonia
recently. It was more than she could overcome.
Renee is survived by her husband Mike Holzapfel; stepdaughters Beth
and April, North Mankato, Minnesota; mother Madelyn Gilbertson, Austin,
Minnesota; sisters Cheryl Nelson of Glenville, Minnesota, and Sherri
Gilbertson of Fayetteville, Arkansas; brothers Walter Gilbertson of
Keller, Texas, Wayne Gilbertson of Fayetteville and Jerry Johnson of
Austin; mother-in-law Vera Holzapfel; sisters-in-law Vicki and Sher of
Mankato, Minnesota.
Renee was preceeded in death by sister Chris (Gilbertson) Schocker,
brother Jim Johnson and father Walt Gilbertson.
Renee was small in stature with personality and heart as big as all
outdoors. A celebration of life will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, April
12 at Northview Mortuary, upper North Mankato, with visitation held from
3 to 6 p.m. that day. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

(John) Gorman, Lincoln, Neb., Michael (Karen) Perrault, Marquette, Mich.,
Natalie Perrault, Petoskey, Mich., Andrew (Abby) LeVasseur, Rochester,
Minn., Daniel Perrault, Houghton, Mich.; great-grandchildren Braden and
Colin Gorman, Baby Perrault; sisters Iris Bighley, Albert Lea, Lois Brandt
(Babe), Albert Lea, Melba Jenkins, Lime Springs, Iowa; sisters-in-law Elaine
Gillard, Glenville, Minn., Esther (Laverne) Walhiem, Glenville;
brothers-in-law Arvid (Marge) Lau, Austin, Robert (Mary) Lau,
Duluth, Minn.; many loving nieces and nephews with children; and
too many caring friends to list.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother; brother
Cecil and wife Lucille; sister Doris and husband Tony Belshan; mother and
father-in-law Harvey and Cora Lau; sister-in-law Sharon Berg;
brothers-in-law Marshal Bighley, John Jenkins, Charles Gillard
and Arlo Walk.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 12 at
Our Saviors Lutheran Church with the the Rev. Glenn Monson officiating.
Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Glenville. Visitation will be
at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and at the church
on Thursday for one hour before the service.

Christopher M. Guy 1961-2012
Christopher M. Guy, 51, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, March
2, 2012, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Boise, Idaho.
Chris was employed as a ranch hand for Judy and Darol Forsythe of Boise
at the time of his death. He had worked on their ranch for nearly 10 years.
Co-workers described him as a gentle man who loved animals and was always
willing to lend a helping hand. Chris’ thick curly blond hair and full
beard earned him the nickname “The Viking”.
Chris is survived by his parents Kenneth and Shirley Guy, Austin; brother
and sisters Deborah J. (Rick) Richard, Joliet, Mont., Bradley Guy, Austin,
Catherine (Peter) Walker, Austin; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and
great-nephews; Aunt Sandra (Bruce) Rampelberg; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy.
A private family graveside service is planned for Saturday, April 14,
2012, at the Fairview Cemetery, Oakland, Minn. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is
in charge of arrangements.

Vincent R. Bisbee 1936-2012
Vincent R. Bisbee, 75, of Antioch, Illinois, passed away Monday,
April 9, 2012, at home, surrounded by his family.
Vincent was born September 24, 1936, in Minneapolis, the son of the
late Raymond and Ida (Lindley) Bisbee. He lived in Waukegan, Illinois,
and Roscoe, Illinois, before settling in Antioch in 1994. Before his
retirement in 1997, Vincent worked for many years as an engineer at
Outboard Marine Corp. Waukegan.
Vincent was a member, greeter and usher and was on the property
committee, working on many projects at St. Stephen Lutheran Church,
Antioch. Formerly, he was a longstanding member of St. Paul Lutheran
Church, Waukegan. Vince was very generous with his time and talents
volunteering for Catholic Charities Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed camping
trips in North Dakota with his childhood and best friend Loren Berge of
Osage, Iowa, fishing, restoring antique tractors, and especially spending
precious time with his grandchildren, both “up north” and at home. His
biggest love was his wife of 56 years Lila, whom he married February 25,
1956, at Grace Lutheran Church, Austin, Minn.
Survivors include his wife Lila; two daughters, Cathy Herman of Antioch
and Cynthia (Jon) Olson of Bristol, Wis.; six grandchildren, Cassondra,
Robert, Amy, Brenda, Emily, and Jason; two sisters, Shirley (Art) Mumm of
Elkhorn, Wisconsin, and Connie (Galen) Lehnhardt of Newport News, Virginia;
brother- and sister-in-laws, Carlton (Muriel) Thomson of Austin and Yvonna
Thomson of Lakeview, Michigan; and many friends. In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by his son David, brother-in-laws Allan and Kenneth
Thomson, Lila’s parents Carl (Leda) Thomson, a niece Patricia Thomson and
nephews Robert and David Thomson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012, at
St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 1155 Hillside Ave. Antioch, IL 60002, with
visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery,
Austin. Arrangements were entrusted to the Strang Funeral Home of Antioch.

Kenneth E. Flicek, 74 1937-2012
Kenneth E. Flicek, 74, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, Feb. 25,
2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota.
Kenneth was born on July 30, 1937, in Austin, to George and Julia (Valek)
Flicek. He grew up in Austin, where he attended Queen of Angels Elementary
school and Austin High School.
Kenneth worked at Cavalry Cemetery, Austin, then later moved to Rochester
and worked at Grandview Memorial Gardens, St. Mary’s Hospital. After, he
worked at Olmsted County Courthouse until he retired. In 2005 Kenneth moved
back to Austin, residing at Kingsley House.
Kenneth was a member of Queen of Angels Church in Austin. He enjoyed TV,
hunting, fishing and spending time with his nephews.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Mary Flicek,
Austin; brother, Glen Flicek, Austin; sister, Bernice (Wilbur) Carpenter,
Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bernard Flicek.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 1 p.m. April
14 at Calvary Cemetery, Austin. A gathering and lunch will follow the
service at Melvin and Mary Flicek’s home.

Mardell (Bentzin) Murrow 1929-2012
Mardell Murrow, 83, passed away Saturday, April 7, in San Antonio, Texas after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born February 16, 1929, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Frank and Winifred Bentzin, Mardell spent her childhood in Minnesota with her parents and three brothers, and graduated from Austin High School in 1947. She married David Murrow of South Bend, Indiana in 1959, and the couple had two children, David Murrow, Jr. and Shari Murrow Chu. The family settled in Houston in 1964.
Upon retirement in 1995, Dave and Mardell moved to San Antonio. In the 1950s, Mardell became a professional court reporter and stenographer, a career she pursued for approximately 40 years. During her many years in criminal and civil courts in Harris County, she worked on a number of high-profile cases including several infamous trials. Dedicated to serving her community, Mardell enjoyed helping others and was a wonderful leader. Throughout the years, she served as president of the Harris County Court Reporters Association and was the first president of her neighborhood HOA in San Antonio.
Mardell also loved volunteering as a Reading Angel at the Achiever’s School and in several ministry areas at University United Methodist Church. Mardell had a zest for life and was known for her optimism, generous heart, and sense of humor. She made friends everywhere she went. She was a rabid sports fan and a longtime season ticket holder to Houston Rockets basketball games. However, she easily converted to a Spurs fan when she moved to San Antonio. She loved line dancing, playing the piano and late night Scrabble games with her grandkids. Her delight in and love for her family was deep and lasting. Mardell also adored her loyal West Highland Terrier, Daisy.
Mardell is survived by her youngest brother, Bill Bentzin and his wife, Iva, of Sweetwater, Minn.; sisters-in-law Irene Bentzin and Minnie Bentzin of Austin, Minn.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Greg and Ann Murrow of Lago Vista, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Shari and Henry Chu of Helotes, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, David, Jr. and Gina Murrow, of Anchorage, Ala.; grandchildren Sarah Chu of College Station, Texas, Lauren Chu of San Antonio, Andrea Murrow and Victoria Murrow of Anchorage, David Murrow III; his wife, Kristan; and great-grandsons, Gabriel and Gideon Murrow of Wasilla, Ala.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 14, at 1 p.m. at University United Methodist Church, 5084 De Zavala, San Antonio, TX 78249. Steve L. Benesh, 591952-2012
Steve L. Benesh, 59, of West Allis, Wisconsin, died Monday, March 12,
2012, due to a long-term illness.
Steve was born September 25, 1952, in Rochester, Minnesota, the son of
Richard and Marcy (Galstad) Benesh. He was a graduate of Austin High School
class of 1971 and attended vocational school in Minneapolis. He had a career
as an offset printing press operator—a job that he loved.
Steve was united in marriage to Jane Welsh on October 19, 1991. He
combined his love of stock car racing and photography into his passion.
He spent many weekends at the race track taking pictures, many of which
were published throughout the Midwest. He loved spending time with family
and friends.
Steve is survived by his wife, Jane (Walsh), West Allis; stepson, Jason
(Amy) Ousey; grandson, Alex Ousey; parents, Richard and Marcy Benesh, Albert
Lea, Minnesota; sisters, Ann (Mike) Herman, Alden and Mary (George) Tschida,
Lakeville, Minnesota; nephews Joe Tschida, Kavan VanHal; nieces, Jennifer
(Matt) Van Hal, Analiese Tschida.
A visitation and prayer service will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012,
at St. Edward Church in Austin, Minn. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will
be at the National Bohemian Cemetery in Hayward, Minn. after the visitation.

Betty Jane (Nelsen) Riley1922-2012
Betty Jane "BJ" Nelsen Riley, 89, passed away on March 30, 2012.
She was the Hormel company office receptionist in Austin prior to joining
the FBI in Washington, D.C. Later she was employed by the District of
Columbia Recreation Department as clerk of their board. The urge to
travel took her to French Morocco as a civil service employee, then
to Colorado to help build the Air Force Academy, then to the Panama
Canal Zone. There she met and married her Air Force husband, Dick N.
Riley. His assignments took them to California, Alabama, Taiwan, Ohio
and finally Florida. She enjoyed sewing and knitting sweaters. Later
in life, golf and bridge became her hobbies.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond (Swede) Nelsen, Nels
Donald (Pony) Nelsen, and Maurice (Mo) Nelsen. Survivors include her husband
of 53 years, Dick Riley; son Daniel and grandson Dustin; daughter Linda and
her husband Paul Vause; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and
grandnephews.
Private inurnment services will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery
in Pensacola, Fla. at a later date. A celebration of life will be held at
Soundside Club, Hurlburt Field on April 21, 2012, from 2 to 5 p.m. For
military base security purposes if you do not have a military identification

Rudolph L. Gutman1922-1983

Funeral services for Rudolph L. Gutman, 61, of Austin, Minnesota, who
died on June 5, 1983 at St. Mary's hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, were
held June 7, 1983 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar, Iowa,
with the Rev. Otto Reitz officiating.
Mr. Gutman was employed at Weyerhaueser in Austin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert F. Gutman and one son,
David.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine; his mother, Lorenda Gutman;
two sons, Michael of Christman, Florida, and Verne of Greene, Iowa; two
daughters-in-law, seven grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and one
sister, Goldie Anderson of Austin.
Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery with Rev. Reitz in charge of
committal services.

Arnold D. Boyenga1943-2012
Arnold D. Boyenga, 68, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at his home in Austin.
He was born on December 18, 1943, in Austin to Anton and Marjorie (Thompson) Boyenga. Mr. Boyenga attended Austin Public Schools, graduating from Austin High School in 1962. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1966. On Sept. 28, 1970, Arnold and Mary L. Rice were united in marriage at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin. The couple had three children.
A member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Arnold was a man who loved to work, especially in the garage and also doing redecorating projects. His family always came first. He enjoyed watching movies, particularly Westerns. He also enjoyed golf. After working as a truck driver for 30 years, Arnold retired in December 2010.
Survivors include his wife Mary Boyenga of Austin; daughter Sue (Darren) Thomas of Austin; sons Scott Boyenga of Austin and Skipp (Kim) Boyenga of St. Paul, Minn.; four grandchildren, Evan Thomas, Nathan Toney, JaMar Salisbury, Jackson Boyenga; sister Linda (Wayne) Wollenburg, Austin; brother Edward (Lona) Boyenga, Austin; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Anton and Marjorie, and one brother, Tony.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin with the Rev. Michael Olmsted officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be performed by American Legion Post No. 91 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1216.
