Sharon Elizabeth Eastlee, 69

1942-2011

The Mass of Christian Burial for Sharon E. Eastlee, 69, of Stewartville, Minnesota, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at St. Bernards Catholic Church In Stewartville with Rev. Matt Fasnacht officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernards Catholic Cemetery in Stewartville.

Sharon died Saturday Nov. 19, 2011, from complications of cancer at the Stewartville Care Center where she had been a rehabilitation patient since May of this year.

Sharon Elizabeth Eastlee was born June 22, 1942, in Austin, Minnesota, to Russell and Irene (Walsh) Eastlee. She moved as a young girl with her family to Irwin, Pennsylvania, where she attended school and graduated from Irwin H.S. in 1960. The Eastlee Family then moved to South Dakota, and Sharon was employed as a clerical worker for the State of South Dakota License Bureau. She moved to Valaparaiso, Ind., where she was employed at Nothern Indian Public Service Co. for more than 30 years until her retirement in 1997. Sharon was a foster parent for a number of years in Indiana and adopted an infant foster child, Alyssa.

They moved to Frankfurt, Miss., to live near her sister Diane and family for a number of years. They then moved to Rochester, Minn., for health reasons before moving to Stewartville in 2007. Sharon had a love for animals as a child and while living in Indiana raised and showed Arabian horses. She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, tending to her cats and dogs, reading and was a Chicago Bears fan.

Surviors include her daughter, Alyssa Eastlee of Stewartville; sister, Diane (Larry) Von Wald of Rapid City, South Dakota; brother, Michael (Connie) Eastlee of Flower Mound, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents — her mother in August of this year.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22 at Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday afternoon. Arrangements are with Grifin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville. www.griffin-gray.com.

Jeffrey Mark Cook, 42

1969-2011

Jeffrey Mark Cook, 42, of Boston and formerly of Austin, Minn., died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at Kileleshwa, Nairobi, Kenya, Africa.

Jeff was born Oct. 2, 1969, in Austin, to parents, Joseph and Sharon and joined his three siblings, Christopher Scott Cook, Gregory John Cook and Deborah Lynn Cook. He graduated from Hernando High School in Hernando, Miss., in 1988 and went on to attend Ole Miss University in Mississippi and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in Amherst, Mass. Jeff was a humanitarian. He enjoyed playing percussion, listening to music, was an avid reader, enjoyed golf, tennis, the Minnesota Vikings, the Boston Red Sox, the L.A. Lakers, Ole Miss football and rugby. Jeff was the founder of the Phoenix Group and a missionary for Church World Service. He was in the Army Special Forces and served during the Gulf War/Desert Storm.

Survivors include his mother, Sharon Dawn Hunter of Burnsville, Minn., and formerly of Austin; father, Joe L. Cook of Wayland, Mass., and formerly of Austin; brothers, Chris Cook and wife, Peggy of Roseville, Minn., Greg Cook and wife, Jayleen of Glenville, Minn.; sister, Deborah Cook and husband, Brian Hagan of Austin; nieces, Larissa Cook and Danielle Cook of Glenville; many additional extended family members and true friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at Mayer Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Johnson and Deacon John Kluczny officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Saturday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91, VFW Post 1216, and DAV Chapter 27 .

The honorary casket bearers will be Karen Foglesong, Mark Gardner, Kevin Houston, Garry Morrow, Neecie Brasher Presley and Yust Lundberg. The casket bearers will be Chris Cook, Greg Cook, Deborah Cook, Peter Cook, Mike Williamson, and Brian Hagan.

Thank you to the following individuals and groups of people: Garry Morrow for introducing Jeff to Church World Service in Kenya, Africa, where Jeff spent the most rewarding seven months of his adult life — Garry and Jeff were the truest of friends; Church World Service for recognizing and embracing Jeff’s carefree spirit while gently guiding him along the most amazing journey of his life; Mark Adiedo from Church World Service for ensuring Jeff was so well taken care of on his journey home from Africa; the U.S. Embassy in Africa and the U.S. Embassy in New York for their guidance, support, and most importantly their combined efforts to return Jeff’s personal items to his family; the Austin Area Veteran’s Organizations for honoring Jeff and his dedication to our nation; Jeff’s Facebook friends for the continued posting of messages, stories and photos honoring and celebrating his life.

McINTIRE, IOWA — Dorothy Rae Butterfield, 64, of McIntire, died Saturday (July 26, 2003) at the Riceville Community Rest Home in Riceville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the McIntire United Methodist Church in McIntire, with the Rev. Michael Carey officiating. Burial will be in the Wayne Cemetery, rural McIntire.

Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. today at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville and at the church one hour prior to service Tuesday.

Dorothy Rae Butterfield

Dorothy Rae Butterfield, age 64, of McIntire, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2003, at the Riceville Community Rest Home in Riceville, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 29, at the McIntire United Methodist Church in McIntire. The Reverend Michael Carey officiated. Burial was in the Wayne Cemetery, rural McIntire.

Dorothy Rae was born on July 4, 1939 to Nels and Bessie Howel Espe in Austin, Minnesota. She attended local schools and graduated from the Austin High School in 1957. Dorothy was united in marriage to Reese Butterfield on October 26, 1957 in Austin at the Presbyterian Church.

Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents; an infant daughter, Anna Marie on April 17, 1961; three brothers, Raymond, Richard and Ernest; and three sisters, Anna Bell Peterson, Elizabeth Espe and Donna Marie Espe.

Her survivors include her husband, Reese of McIntire; three sons, Randy and his wife, Bobbe of McIntire, Mark and his wife, Amelia of Elma and Wade of McIntire; two daughters, Becky and her husband, Mark Johnson of Osage and Penny and her husband, Mark Heimer of Stacyville, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Sylvester Espe and his wife, Dorothy and Leonard Espe and his wife, Janet, both of Austin, Minnesota and Paul Espe and his wife, Helen of Spring Grove, Minnesota; two sisters, Evangeline Reimann of Cambridge, Minnesota and Alice and her husband, Harold Wiste of Adams, Minnesota.

Josephine Mary (Sutherland) Lowrey

c1924-2011

Josephine Mary Lowrey, 87, died on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at Catholic Elder Care in Minneapolis, succumbing to the effects of Alzheimer’s disease after more than 13 years.

Though her memories were lost to Josie, her family will treasure their memories of a charming English war bride whose cheerful and inexhaustible supply of British quips were a constant source of amusement (and awe) to family and friends. Along with her husband, Jim, “Jo” created a snug home for a large family. It was a hospitable place, steeped in love, laughter, and endless, welcoming tea parties. In addition to being a supportive mother and grandmother, she was a master baker and world-class knitter who combined high energy and hard work with a deep and quiet faith.

Born in Aldershot, England, Josie was the third daughter of Donald and Maud Sutherland.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; daughter, Cathy; son, Steven; and sisters, Jean and Margaret.

She is survived by daughters, Gillian Kunze, of Grand Marais, Barbara Jaworski of Plymouth and Sherri (Brian) Lowrey-Schrandt of Rochester; sons, Keith Lowrey of Bagley and Scott Lowrey of North Potomac, Maryland; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews on both sides of the Atlantic.

A private internment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Memorials may be sent to the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer’s Disease Center or Catholic ElderCare in Minneapolis.

Oscar L. Miller 1953

Oscar L. Miller, 78, died Sunday evening at St. Olaf Hospital. He resided at 114 Graham; Mapleview.

Mr. Miller is survived by his wife Elizabeth; two sons, Leroy Miller, Washington, D.C., and Earl Miller, Austin; four step-daughters, Mrs. Kathryn Berto, Haywarden, Iowa; Mrs. William Reifchneider and Mrs. John Kobes, Iowa City, Iowa; and Mrs. George Griebel, Decorah, Iowa; and a brother, Benjamin Miller, Brownsdale.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon.

OBITUARY--

Oscar Miller 1875-1953

Oscar LeRoy Miller was born on March 6, 1875, in Chicago, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Miller.

He resided in Decorah, Iowa, and Sundance, Wyoming, before moving to Austin 27 years ago. He made his home at 114 Graham, Mapleview.

On February 27, 1907, he was united in marriage with Ellizabeth Ellen Huckins at Decorah. Mr. Miller was a blacksmith in Decorah and operated a ranch in Wyoming. While living in Austin he was employed at George A. Hormel and Company. He was a member of the FOE and a Mapleview councilman.

Mr. Miller died on September 20, 1953, at St. Olaf Hospital, after being ill for three months. Funeral services were held on Sept. 23, 1953, at the Mayer Funeral Home, Msgr. F. McCarthy officiating. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ellen; two sons, LeRoy Blair Miller and Earl L. Miller; four step-daughters, Catherine, Julia, Lucy and Ethyl; five grandchildren; and one brother, Benjamin Miller, Brownsdale.

BIOGRAPHY--

Oscar L. Miller retired in 1940. He died September 20 of this year. He was the "temperature man" here, his job being to see that all temperatures were at proper levels in the various rooms. He is survived by his wife, Ella, and by his sons, Earl L. (of the Miller D-X station in Austin, and Leroy B. of Washington, and by four step-children.

He began here in 1927. He had been a blacksmith and rancher previously. He was well and favorably known throughout the plant.

Ervin James Richardson

1944-2011

Ervin James Richardson, 67, of LeRoy, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2011, in Grand Rapids, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Erv was born in Bovey, on June 29, 1944. He graduated in 1963 from Greenway High School, attended UMD in Duluth and graduated from Bemidji State with a degree in Business Education. Erv and his wife, Carol, and family moved to LeRoy in 1972, where he taught and coached football, basketball and Little League for many years.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Grace and Floyd Richardson of Grand Rapids; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rewybelle and Waldemar "Baldy" Johnson, Grand Rapids.

Ervin is survived by his wife, Carol (Johnson) of LeRoy; his daughter, Debra of Cologne, Germany; his son, Rob (Michaela) and their children, Eliot Waldemar, 6, Shepard James, 4, and Matilda Belle, 7 months, of Robbinsdale; three brothers, Melvin (Karen) Richardson and family of Grand Rapids, Jordan (Bernie) Richardson and family of Warba and William (Debby) Richardson and family of Bovey; one sister, Charlotte (Darrell) Zuehlke and family of Bovey. He is also survived by a special uncle, Bertram Kleven and his family of Grand Rapids; and other cousins.

He will be sadly missed by family and numerous friends.

A memorial gathering and Celebration of his Life will be held Saturday, Nov. 19, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Travel Lanes (downstairs) in LeRoy. Everyone is welcome.

Benjamin E. Miller, 76, died on Wednesday at St. Olaf Hospital.

He resided at 1922 6th Ave. NW, and is survived by his widow, Mary; a son, Roger Miller, Mesa, Arizona; two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Gladys) Copeland, Quincy, Illinois, Mrs. Delbert (Lois) Knight, Iowa City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Friday.

Wayne Rodney Allore

1936-2011

Wayne Rodney Allore, 75, of Austin, died Friday morning, November 18, 2011, at Mayo Clinic Health System Austin.

He was born July 7, 1936, to Edward T. and Lela Hope (Roush) Allore in Austin. He lived in Austin his entire life, graduating from Austin Pacelli High School in 1955. He worked at the Hormel Company; as a General Manager at the Mower County Shopper and as a self-employed master craftsman. Wayne married Beverly Arndt in 1959. They had two sons and were later divorced.

On March 20, 1985, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Hillberg in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Legion. Wayne enjoyed fishing, traveling, antiquing, watching the Twins and the Vikings and was a historian. He especially enjoyed woodworking. He made furniture and toy chests for his grandchildren, and he refinished furniture. Wayne also catered and cooked for organizations in Austin, particularly the Salvation Army and the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Austin; sons, Eric (Kim) Allore and Lance (Linda) Allore, both of North Mankato; stepchildren Sherri Erickson, Larry Erickson, George (Kimberly) Hillberg, and Lon Hillberg, all of Austin, and Sara Hillberg of St. Paul; seven grandchildren, Mitch Allore, Gus Allore, Ben Allore, Guy Allore, Mark Erickson, Dominic Hillberg, Stephanie Erickson; great-grandchild, Lillian Lang Erickson; sisters, Bonnie Smith of Sylmar, Calif., and Lois King of Austin; brother, Gene Allore of Sylmar; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lela; stepson, Mark Hillberg; sisters, Robella and Betty.

Memorial services will be noon on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at First United Methodist Church in Austin with Pastor Marilee Benson and Pastor Shari Mason officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216. The family prefers memorials to the First United Methodist Church. Wilbur Lloyd Sayles

1925-2011

Wilbur Lloyd Sayles, 86, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, November 19, 2011, at Sacred Heart Care Center.

Wilbur was born February 21, 1925, in Austin Township to Claude and Aleeta “Maude” (Staley) Sayles.

He attended Enterprise School and graduated from Austin High School in 1942. As a youth, he was involved with the Enterprise 4-H Club. He played piano, accordion and bass horn, starting his own musical band during high school. He began performing professionally at age 13, playing for local dances. In those years, he remembered being paid $1.50 per night for playing a four-hour dance.

He attended Austin Junior College but left school to enter the Army in 1944. He served in the U.S. Occupation Forces in Austria, working in General Mark Clark’s headquarters in Vienna.

Upon returning home, he toured the upper Midwest with the Viking Band. He later toured with the Scandinavian Band. He owned and operated a music store south of Austin for many years.

He married Marlyn Johnson in 1949 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They lived their entire married life in Austin Township.

Wilbur was a member of the United Methodist Church since 1954. He served as Lay Leader for several years. He became active in musical evangelism, with his first outreach in 1965 in Portland, Ore. This work led him to missions all across the U.S., Central and South America. He developed and distributed a weekly radio outreach, which was aired by hundreds of radio stations across the United States and also in African missions. He created weekly programs for nursing homes, which were distributed at no cost as a residential devotion program. He retired in 2002. He was active in the Austin Kiwanis Club for many years and was a lifetime member of the American Legion.

He continued to enjoy church and family activities until his physical health declined, requiring him to move to a health care facility. The family gives special thanks to the staff at Sacred Heart Care Center for their kindness and excellent care during his stay there.

Wilbur loved his Lord, family, gospel music and church activities. He enjoyed traveling and meeting new friends, loved popcorn, custard pie, Sousa marches, Fourth of July fireworks, the Mower County Fair and maple nut ice cream. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his brother, Harlow Sayles and son-in-law, William Magoon.

He is survived by his wife, Marlyn Sayles, Austin, Minn.; daughters and son-in-law, Sharon (Darrell) Babcock, Rosemount, Minn., Beverly Magoon, Boone, Colo.; grandchildren, Brent (Nicole) Babcock, Ross Babcock, Gina Higgs (Linette Griffy), Kathryn (Chance) Henninger; great-grandchildren, Avery, Rowan, and Paige Babcock, Corey, Hannah and Preston Higgs Jr.; Naylen, Laiken and Liam Griffy, Jason, Tyler and Makenzie Hudson, Scarlett Henninger; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 28, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marilee Benson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary. There will be no reviewal at the church on Monday. Private Family interment will be at Enterprise Cemetery.

Charlotte Jean Legried, age 87 of Austin, Minnesota died Sunday morning, November 20, 2011, at her home in Austin. She was born July 3, 1924, to Clarence and Ella (Majerus) Olson in Austin, where she grew up and lived her entire life. She married Clayton Legried on August 11, 1946. Charlotte was employed by the Geo. A. Hormel Company for forty-two years. She enjoyed shopping, especially at Christmas time, liked to travel and spend time with her family. She also enjoyed the companionship of a dog and always had one in her home. Clayton died in 1974.

Survivors include her children, Deb (Don) Bell of Austin, Steve (Vicki) Legried of Austin, Terry (Nancy) Legried of Austin and Paul (Dana) Legried of Austin; six grandchildren, Tom, Jennifer, Shawn, Jason, Troy and Trevor; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clayton Legried and her brother Clarence Olson, Jr.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Rev. Colleen Hoeft, officiating. Obituary

Virginia Pearl Faas, age 81, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died Sunday morning, November 20, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society of St. Ansgar, Iowa.

She was born August 21, 1930 to George and Millie (Barnett) Rohde in Stacyville, Iowa. After attending country school in Mona, Iowa, Virginia worked at the telephone office in Lyle as an operator. She married Sylvan Faas on January 9, 1954 in Stacyville. They made their home in Mona and raised four children. Sylvan passed away on March 26, 2008 and Virginia moved to Good Samaritan in St. Ansgar in June. A member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Lyle, Virginia enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and tending to her flowers.

Glen Ackerman

1908-1978

Glen G. "Mike" Ackerman was born on February 8, 1908 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Edward and Susan Ackerman.

He attended schools in Wadena, Minnesota and Riceville, Iowa.

On December 31, 1931 he was united in marriage to Velma Whistler in LeRoy. To this union two children were born.

Mike was self employed as a stone mason most of his life. He and his wife left LeRoy in 1961 and moved to Yakima, Washington where they lived for 13 years and then moved to Reinbeck, Iowa where he retired in 1976. In May of 1978 they returned to LeRoy.

Mike suffered a heart attack on September 28th and died on Wednesday, October 25, 1978 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Wabasha, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard.

Survivors include his wife, Velma of LeRoy, one son, James of Yakima, Washington, one daughter, Dorothy (Mrs. Jerry Wyatt) of Reads Landing, Minnesota, nine grandchildren, one step-son John Prohaska of Des Moines, Iowa, one step-daughter, Mrs. Ray Kershbaum of Des Moines, Iowa, two sisters, Mrs. Leonard Banks of Lime Springs, Iowa, Mrs. Glen Dann of Mesa, Arizona and one brother, Martin of Cresco, Iowa.

Funeral services where held on Sunday, October 29, 1978 at 2 p.m. at the LeRoy Lutheran Church with Reverend Gary Olson officiating. Mrs. Darold Yost was the organist with Mrs. Jean Olson the soloist. Interment was in the Osage Cemetery. Casket bearers were: Ed Ackerman, Dean Dykeman, Burley Elliott, Dale Ricks, Jan Whistler and Claire Wolthoff.

Arrangements were with the Hutchins Funeral Home in LeRoy, Minnesota.

Nadine (Tune) "Tena" Smith, 78

1933-2011

Nadine “Tena” (Tune) Smith, 78, of Muldrow, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at Sparks Hospice Care at Fort Smith, Arkansas, on Saturday, November 5, 2011, following a short illness.

Nadine, daughter of Mildred and Irwin Baldus of Austin, Minn., was born Feb. 18, 1933. She grew up in the Austin/Grand Meadow area.

She married Arnold E. Tune on Oct. 18, 1950. They had four children. The family moved to Kasson, Minn., in 1965.

Nadine was a homemaker and drove a school bus in the Kasson area. Her interests were camping and embroidery. After Arnold ’s death in 1985, Nadine married Ed Smith on Jan. 17,1986. They resided in Muldrow, Okla.

Nadine is survived by her husband, Ed Smith of Muldrow, Okla.; three sons, Arnold Richard of Kasson, Donald E. (Ginger) of Faribault, David Jay of Mantorville and a daughter, Bonnie Marie of Stewartville; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a sister, Pat Sawyer of Goodland, Kan.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; mother; father and brother.

Memorial will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at the Mantorville Senior Citizen Center, 601 Clay Street Mantorville, MN 55955.

Officiating Pastor will be Marie Anderson. Interment will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery Kasson.

Myron Royter “Mike” Leidell

1929-2009

#1:

Myron Royter "Mike" Leidell of Ontario, California, died peacefully Sunday, January 25th at Inland Valley Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was 79 years old.

After being told that he had an inoperable form of lung cancer, Mike courageously chose to live the remainder of his life with specialized comfort care offered by VNA & Hospice of Southern California

Mike was born November 19, 1929 in Lyle, Mower county, Minnesota and attended Rose Creek High School. At 17 he joined the U.S. Army, and received a World War II Victory Medal. Mike married Donna Coulson in 1951.

They settled in Owatonna, Minnesota where he honed his skills at the printing press for the local paper. In 1953, Mike and Donna relocated to Pomona to start a family.

After several years as a typesetter for the Progress Bulletin, Mike started a laundry business and eventually began a commercial and residential carpet and drapery cleaning service which he operated for a time in Ontario, and later in San Jose, California.

Mike loved to Golf and was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Pomona. In his final days he wished to be remembered as a loving and helpful Christian who loved his family and treated people with kindness and respect. Mike gifted his remains to the UCLA Medical Center Donated Body Program. A memorial tree is being planted in his honor in the Northern California mountains.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents Clara Reuter Leidall and Clifford Leidall, and Step-mother Elizabeth Leidall.

He is survived by his two children; Vicki Leidall of Aptos California and Jeffrey Leidall of Greenbrae California; his former wife, Donna Authelet of Sun City West, Arizona; a sister and brother-in-law, Cleo and Harland Libersky of St. Ansgar, Iowa; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Melba Leidall of Osage, Iowa, and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, church family and friends.

The family is especially grateful to Don Moore for his friendship, advocacy and daily visits during the last several months of Mike's illness. Friends and family are encouraged to make contributions in Mike's memory to VNA

Myrons father, Clifford Raymond Leidall, was born in Mitchell Co., on February 8, 1898 to Knud and Clara (Reuter) Leidall. His mother Clara died September 9, 1952 and is buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona, Mitchell, Iowa.

After his mother died his father moved to California. Clifford remarried 1960 in California to Elizabeth .

Clifford died February 25, 1971 in Los Angeles Co., California.

Mrs. Oscar L. Miller, 87, died Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Kobes, Iowa City, Iowa.

A former resident of Austin, Mrs. Miller is survived by a son, Earl Miller, Austin, and four daughters, Mrs. George Griebel, Decorah, Iowa, Mrs. Kobes, Mrs. William Reifschneider and Mrs. Kathryn Berto, Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon.

Elizabeth Ellen Miller was born on February 23, 1869, at Cresco, Iowa, the daughter of William and Zilpha Huckins.

On February 27, 1907, she was united in marriage with Oscar L. Miller at Decorah, Iowa. They resided in Austin for 29 years, moving to Iowa City, two and a half years ago.

Mrs. Miller died on February 7, 1957, at Iowa City, after being ill with a heart ailment for three years. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 9, 1957, at the Mayer Funeral Home, the Rev. Glynn officiating. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Miller is survived by two sons, Earl Miller, Austin, and Leroy Miller, Arlington, Virginia; four daughters, Mrs. George Griebel, Decorah, Iowa; Mrs. John Kobes, Mrs. William Riefschneider, Kathryn Berto, Iowa City; and several grandchildren.

Iva Ann (Fischer) Carter, 94

1917-2011

Iva A. Carter, 94 of Austin, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at the Sacred Heart Care Center, Austin.

Iva Ann Fischer was born January 31, 1917, at Minnesota Lake, Minnesota, to William and Clara (Schroeder) Fischer. She attended country school and graduated as Valedictorian from Minnesota Lake High School. Iva was married to Lloyd Carter on Jan. 21, 1946, at Minnesota Lake.

Following high school, Iva worked as a veterinarian’s assistant; and after moving to Austin, she was employed as a secretary for Scheid Plumbing and Heating. After her children were born, Iva became a homemaker and a stay-at-home mom.

Iva was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, a seamstress, fabulous cook and loved to travel. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards and was an avid baseball fan and true Minnesota Twins supporter. She enjoyed attending as many of her grandchildren’s events as possible.

Iva was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Carter; son, Jan; her parents; two brothers; one sister and a nephew.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Brenda and Harry Willmott, Austin, Minn., Gail and Eric Tostenson, Byron, Minn; grandchildren: Stacy Jo Copley, Austin, Thomas Copley, Austin, Kendra Granle, Burnsville, Minn., Haley Tostenson, Byron; great-grandchildren: Tyler O’Rourke, Hannah Stewart and Johnathon, Copley; Sister-in-law: Pearl Fischer, New Hope, Minnesota; Nieces: Karen (Don) Leak, Mountain Home, Arkansas, Lynne Tolzmann, Rogers, Arkansas, Diane Vossen, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jean Verkinderen, Lake City, Minnesota; and a great-nephew, Jeff Leak.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday Nov. 25, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with The Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials.

David Martin Sutter, 78

1934-2011

David Martin Sutter, 78, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

David Sutter was born January 19, 1934, in Austin, Minnesota, to Ronald and Ruth (Olson) Sutter. He enlisted in the Air Force and served over four years. He is a veteran of the Korean War. He returned to Austin after his father became ill to run Sutter’s City Service. He sold the gas station to obtain a position at the Austin Utility Company. He retired from the Austin Utilities after 30 years of employment.

He volunteered at AARP every tax season where he enjoyed the interaction with the public. You may have seen him driving around town wearing his black cowboy hat, which he was seldom seen without. He enjoyed gardening in his back acre and tubing down the Salt River in Arizona where he was known as “Cooler Joe.” His children will always remember sitting in the back shed shucking and cracking Black Walnuts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Ruth Sutter and one infant Daughter, Donna Sutter.

David is survived by his wife, Dianne (Greenameyer) Sutter; two daughters, Dori (Don) Hagen of Blooming Prairie, Minn., and DeeAnn Sutter of Mesa, Ariz.; two sons, Deven (Denise) Sutter of Lyle, Minn., and Darry (Lisa) Sutter of Richfield, Minn.; four grandchildren, Lacey Sutter, Lynsey Reuter, and Lauren and Meadow Sutter; and two great-grandchildren, Teagan Sutter, David (Sutter) Clennon; two step-grandchildren, Serena Gleason, R.J. Gleason; and three great-step-grandchildren, Lilly Gardner, Payton Gardner and Easton Gardner.

David arranged for his body to be donated to Mayo Research. It was David’s request that no memorial service be planned. We are following his wishes. He was a very loving and devoted father; he will be greatly missed.

Betty Joan (Ripka) Haskin, 70

1941-2011

On November 22, 2011, the Angels came to take Betty Joan Haskin home to be with our Lord, after a short battle with cancer.

Betty was born on July 11, 1941, to Edward and Josephine (Skok) Ripka in Owatonna, Minnesota. She grew up and attended school in Claremont. She married the love of her life, Daryl Haskin in 1958, at Evanger Lutheran Church, and they were blessed with 53 and a half years of marriage. Betty worked side by side with Daryl at the gas station they owned in West Concord for many years. They moved to Hayfield in 1978, where she worked for the Window Company, Vet Clinic, Menards, and finished her last couple years working with her daughter at the tax office. Betty enjoyed working in her flower garden and working in the yard with her husband. Betty taught us that God, family, and love are most important in life and led us all by example.

Betty is survived by her loving husband, Daryl Haskin; three children, Cindy Hornstein, Ronald (Candy) Haskin, Connie (Mark) Kaehler; grandchildren, Kari, Jennifer, Tisha, Chad, Angela, Amy, Alicia, Cori; step-grandchildren, Nathan, Chelsea, Heather, Jake, Jordan; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene Ripka; a special man she considered a brother, Hookie Allen; brothers and sisters-in-law and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Marvin and Donald; father and mother-in-law, Henry and Myrtle Wilkerson and many aunts and uncles.

A memorial and celebration of her life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at Evanger Lutheran Church, 33554 660th Avenue, Sargeant, Minnesota, with Rev. Paul Hauschild and Rev. Dwight Dobell co-officiating. Interment will be in Evanger Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 2nd Street NW, Hayfield, Minnesota and one hour before the service on Wednesday. Blessed be her memory.

Arthur Waldo Lamb, 89

1922-2011

The funeral service for Arthur Waldo Lamb will be at 11 a.m. Monday, November 28, 2011, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 302 Market Street, Brownsdale, Minnesota, with Rev. Jeff Sage officiating. Interment will be in Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, 2011, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Brownsdale and one hour before the service.

Arthur Waldo Lamb, 89, passed away on November 23, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society Comforcare in Austin, Minnesota.

Arthur was adopted as an infant to Delbert and Nettie Lamb of Williston, N.D. He was baptized in the Lutheran Faith. He relocated as a teenager to Brownsdale, Minn. Art was drafted in 1942. He served in the 101st Army Airborne. He was a proud member of the Screaming Eagles of WWII. During this time he received a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars for his brave service.

Art was married to Grace Ella Rubin on September 30, 1958. They have resided in Brownsdale all their married life. Art was a self-employed construction worker and worked for many farmers and businesses in the area. Art will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Art is survived by his wife, Grace; son, Charles (Pamela) Lamb of Annandale, Minn.; four daughters, Mary (Bill) Guggisberg of Freeborn, Minnesota, Brenda (Kevin) Sabin of Austin, Minnesota, Alice (Charles) Marks, of Austin, Minn., VeNila (Lynn) Davis, of Pryor, Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; four sisters; two sons, Andrew and George Lamb; infant daughter, Sheila Lamb; and one granddaughter, Sarah Ann Sabin.

Lois I. (Boysen) Adams, 93

1918-2011

Lois I. Adams, 93, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at Our House Memory Care where she was a resident for the past few years.

Lois was born on October 10, 1918, in Hayfield, Minnesota, to George P. and Katherine (Chapman) Boysen. She was the youngest of four children. She married Alden “Ray” Adams in Austin on August 24, 1940. Lois assisted Ray in his Powerite Electric Motor shop. She enjoyed golfing and playing cards with her many friends at the Oaks condo in Austin. Lois was a WIBC tournament participant in many bowling tournaments around the country as well as many local bowling leagues. She and Ray enjoyed traveling and big band dancing around the area. Lois was a member of the Elks and American Legion Auxiliaries.

Survivors include her nephew, Irvin “Skip” (Patricia) Boysen, Urbandale, Iowa; many long time friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray, on April 21, 2006; parents, George and Katherine; brothers, Irvin (Lucille) Boysen, Alvin Boysen; sister, Frances (Doug) Blunt.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011, at Mayer Funeral Home with Father Donald Zenk officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Saturday. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude’s Hospice, both in Rochester, Minn.

Norman James Leidall

Norman James Leidall – April 2, 1926 – August 23, 2009

Norman James Leidall, age 83 of Lyle, died Sunday afternoon, August 23, 2009, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

He was born April 2, 1926, to Walter and Myrtle (Naversath) Leidall in Mitchell County, Iowa. He lived on the farm all his life and was a janitor at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle. Norman enjoyed spending time with his great nieces and nephews. Jodi has been a special niece and caregiver to Norman.

Survivors include a brother, LaVerne (June) Leidall of Lyle; sister, Avis (Jim) Johnson of Austin; nieces, Jan (John) Coumbe, Diane Horgen, Jodi (Robert) Kaput and Cindy Jensen; nephews, Todd (Melody) Johnson, Greg Johnson and Scott (Julie) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Bruce Leidall.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle, with the Reverend Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Judy Stark will be the organist and Scott Johnson the soloist. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be no reviewal. Interment is at Six Mile Grove Cemetery, rural Lyle.

Honorary casket bearers are Lorimer Nelson, John Coumbe, Shirll Nelson, Jim Horgen, Sylvan Stromley and Bob Kaput. Casket bearers are Greg Johnson, Jake Kaput, Scott Johnson, Darin Horgen, Todd Leidall, Ryan Horgen, Daniel Leidall and Matt Coumbe.

The family prefers memorials to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Lyle.

Bion Dale Guthrie

1930-2011

Bion Dale Guthrie, 81, went to be with the Lord on June 29, 2011. A memorial will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1501 Kimball Ave., Waterloo, on Oct. 14 at 11:30 a.m., with a burial service following at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Guthrie was born on January 18, 1930, in Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, to Dale and Ruth Guthrie. He joined the Naval Sea Bees in January 1948, and served until 1952. After leaving the military, he married Barbara J. Creighton in lowa.

Surviving siblings include Darlene Peterson, Marion Poppe and Elaine Rennert. He leaves behind a wife, Barbara J. Guthrie; three sons, Mitchell, Monty and Mickey; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jennie, Ryan, Miles, Jaycee, Wyatt and Waylon; and three great-grandchildren, Destiny, Jalina and Wesson.

He was a friend to everyone he met, and knew how to make people laugh and put a smile on their face. He was very loved and will be truly missed.

Marcine D. Bendtsen, 87

1924-2011

Marcine D. Bendtsen, age 87, of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, November 24, 2011 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin.

Marcine was born June 9, 1924, in Wagner, South Dakota, to Ben and Anna (Reandeau) Bendtsen. She was the oldest of ten children.

Marcine attended rural elementary school until the family moved to Hayfield in 1936 and then to a farm near Rose Creek. She graduated from Hamilton School of Commerce in Mason City, Iowa in 1944. Her secretarial career began in Austin with the Capretz Agency, then with County Attorney A.C. Richardson and on to the Hormel Livestock Office. Marcine also attended DeVry University in Chicago and after graduating in broadcasting she accepted a script writers position in radio at Murfreesboro, Tenn. Next she purchased a home in St. Paul and was employed with Twin City Heating, Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractor’s Association. She retired in 1986.

Marcine devoted her energies to her church, her home and her garden. She loved to travel and spent a whole summer hosteling through six countries in Europe and visiting relatives in Denmark. During her trips to Mexico, she was most impressed with the imprinted cloak of the Blessed Virgin of Guadalupe. Marcine made her 42 nieces and nephews her family by attending most of their graduations, weddings and birthdays. She loved her two siamese cats, was an avid reader, a gourmet cook, enjoyed knitting, gardening, dancing, was a member of the curling club and Bible study. She was active in SPTE (Single Persons for Tax Equality) and served as state and national President of the organization.

When Marcine’s health began to deteriorate, she moved back to Austin to be near her family, residing at Our House Assisted Living and Memory Care.

Marcine was a loving sister who will be missed by her large family.

Survivors include five sisters: Roma Samuelson, Austin, Ramona Peters, Austin, Kay (Curtis) Lewison, Adams, Karen (Russell) Anderson, Rose Creek, Karol (Jack) Blink, Rochester; four brothers: Myles (Mary) Bendtsen, Rose Creek, Alan (Carole) Bendtsen, Madison, Wis., DeWaldon (Patricia) Bendtsen, Rochester, Gary (Barbara) Bendtsen, Rose Creek; many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Anna Bendtsen; one niece; one nephew; two brothers-in-law; two great nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek with Father Tom Loomis officiating. There will be a 3 p.m. wake service on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery.

Evelyn (Cardinal) Kahl, 81

1930-2011

Evelyn Kahl, age 81, of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, died Thursday November 24, 2011, at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center.

Evelyn was born on February 2, 1930, in Grand Meadow, to Kenneth and Loretta (Frankson) Cardinal. She attended Grand Meadow Schools and was united in marriage to Calvin Kahl on August 6, 1947, at the home of her grandfather O.K. Cardinal in Grand Meadow.

Evelyn was a homemaker, she enjoyed painting, doing crafts, cooking and canning. Evelyn was also a talented seamstress, she was able to make wedding dresses for her daughters along with many other clothing items.

She is survived by her children: Nancy Miland, Spring Valley, Rose (Ed) Ackermann, Grand Meadow, Lori (Curt) Unverzagt, Brownsdale and Larry Kahl, Grand Meadow; eight grandchildren: David (Diane) Miland, Kenneth (Melanie) Miland, Philip Miland, Sheldon Miland, Mary (Jim) Borgschatz, Carla Hilton, Kristina (Burton) Foote and Matthew (Sara)Unverzagt; 11 great grand children, Samantha Miland, Logan Miland, Grant Borgschatz, Riley Borgschatz, Kaitlyn Hilton, Grace Hilton, Wyatt Miland, Taylor Miland, Allie Miland, Addison Foote and Kellan Unverzagt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and sister Kathryn Vogelsang.

Funeral services for Evelyn will be held 2 p.m. Monday Nov. 28, 2011, at the United Church of Grand Meadow with the Rev. Karen Ashton officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Meadow Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 to 5 at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow.

Maxine Donna (Haldorson) Amacher, 92

1919-2011

Maxine Donna Amacher, 92, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, November 26, 2011, at Our House Memory Care in Austin.

Maxine was born on May 30, 1919, in London, Minnesota, to Swan H. and Dena S. (Holte) Haldorson. She was born and raised in her home in London, where she also attended school. Maxine married Walter C. Amacher at the Trondhjem Lutheran Church and was a homemaker for many years. She moved to the Oaks in 1986 and enjoyed playing cards and volunteering at Trondhjem Lutheran Church. Maxine also belonged to the Moose Lodge, the Eagles Club and the American Legion. One of her hobbies was making quilts, and she donated hundreds of them to the Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Survivors include her daughter, Diane (Martin Farber) Amacher of Salt Lake City, Utah; son, Walt (Jacquie) Amacher of Omaha, Neb.; two grandchildren, Mark Amacher and Eric Amacher; two great-grandchildren, Austyn and Zaiden. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; parents, Swan and Dena and a brother, Oliver.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at the Trondhjem Lutheran Church, 87740 170th St., Austin, Minn. with Pastor Katie Fick officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service in Trondhjem Cemetery. Worlein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Shirley Cleone Earl, 87

1924-2011

Shirley Cleone Earl, 87, of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday, November 27, 2011, at St. Marks Lutheran Home.

Shirley was born Aug. 23, 1924, at New Richland, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter and Irene (Fuller) Laudert. She graduated from the New Richland high school and for two years worked as a welder in the San Francisco shipyards. Following the war she returned to the New Richland area and attended Beauty School in Mankato, Minn. She moved to Austin and was married to Robert L. Earl. The Earls owned and operated the Turf Bar and later the Colonial Bar in Austin.

Shirley was a member of the Church of Christ and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed counted cross stitching, playing cards, and she was an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by her husband and sister, Lois Haack.

Shirley is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard B. and Ruth Earl, Austin; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra J. and Ritchie Petersen, Rochester, Minn.; step-daughter, Judith L. Anderson and Lou Becerra, Kent, Wash.; grandchildren, Brian E. and Jessica Petersen Rochester, Eric M. and Rachel Petersen, Rochester; great-grandchildren, Ella Petersen and Zachary Petersen; brother, Harvey W. Laudert, New Hope, Minn.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Rev. Pam Aandahl Solberg officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and for one hour before the service on Wednesday.

Irene Loretta (Reinartz) Miller

1911-2011

Irene Loretta (Reinartz) Miller, 100, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, November 28, 2011, with her loved ones at her side, at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center where she was a resident.

Irene was born May 30, 1911, in Lansing, Minnesota, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Schnorenberg) Reinartz. She was a 1929 graduate of St. Augustine High School in Austin. After her graduation from high school, Irene went on to study at Winona State for her teaching certificate. Prior to her marriage, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse in twin Lakes. Irene married Earl Miller in 1937. After raising their three children, she taught fifth grade at St. Augustine grade school in Austin. Irene lived in the Lansing and Austin areas her entire life until entering the Grand Meadow Assisted Living and later the Grand Meadow Care Center.

Irene had been a very active, lifelong, devout member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She was baptized, received first communion, was confirmed and married there. Irene enjoyed her family, church, making rosaries, crossword puzzles and playing cards.

Survivors include her son, Richard “Dick” (Judy) Miller, Humboldt, Iowa; son-in-law, Rodney Appel, Charles City, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Steve (Darla) Appel, Rosemount, Minn., Sue (Ron) Dunn, Alta Vista, Iowa, Stacey (Julie) Appel, McDonough, Ga., Scott Appel, Nora Springs, Iowa, Stewart (Melissa) Appel, Charles City, Sandy (Dan) Clark, Ionia, Iowa, Sara (Steve) Robel, Charles City, Gary (Karen) Miller, Oneida, N.Y., Teri (Daniel) Glynn, Grand Meadow; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl in 1985; son, Franciscan Brother Bruce “Donald” Miller; daughter, Joanne Appel; five brothers, three sisters and their spouses.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes and Father Steve Peterson officiating. There will be a 5 p.m. CCW rosary and a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 5-7 p.m. and also from 10 until 11 a.m. Saturday at Mayer Funeral Home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Russell F. Birk Jr, 76

1935-2011

Russell F. Birk Jr., 76, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Monday, November 28, 2011, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born in Britt, Iowa, on April 23, 1935, to Russell and Dorothy (Osborn) Birk and grew up in Austin. On Feb. 15, 1958, he married Jeannine Catherine Rauen of Austin, and they made their home in Bloomington, Minn., and then moved to a hobby farm in New Prague and raised a family. Russell worked at Model Stone for 36 years. After retiring, Russell and Jeannine moved back to Austin, where Russell enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, and a great cup of coffee with friends at Oak Grill and Oak Park Mall.

Russell is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeannine Birk; children Russell Birk III (Nancy) of Aurora, Minn., Dorothy Johnson (Tom) of New Prague, Minn., Darrell Birk (Gloria) of Smyrna, Tenn., Richard Birk (Kay) of Shakopee, Minn., Holly Brezina (Richard) of Lonsdale, Minn., Fred Birk (Rose) of New Prague, and Ellie Birk (Gary) of Jordan, Minn.; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sophia Newkirk (Jim), Sharon Harding (Dick), Janice Vaughn, Barb Haugstad (Gary) and brother, Chuck Halsey (Terry).

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Darrell Birk; sister, Darlene Cole; grandson, William Birk.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. There will be a 4 p.m. wake service on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour before the service at the church on Friday. June A. (Petersen) Bernatz, 84

1927-2011

June A. Bernatz, 84, of Austin, died Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

June was born September 26, 1927, in Dodge County, Minnesota, to Floyd and Bernice (Brandli) Petersen. She graduated from Byron High School. On January 23, 1948, she married Phillip Bernatz in Rochester. The couple moved to the Austin area where June worked for the Hormel Company for 41 years. In 1961, they moved to a farm east of Austin where she continued to live. June was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. She enjoyed her family and many friends, activities that took her outdoors and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her sons, Phillip Bernatz Jr., Austin, Thomas (Beverly) Bernatz, St. Joseph, Timothy (Joy) Bernatz, Austin; two grandsons, Scott (Holly) Bernatz, St. Michael, Trent (Melissa) Bernatz, Hastings; four great-grandchildren, Ava, Owen, Grant and Liam; sister, Gail Berge, Kasson; many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Phillip; one brother and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at Mayer Funeral Home with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Ryan Allen Gordon

1969-2011

Ryan Allen Gordon, 42, of Farmington, Minnesota, formerly of Adams, Minnesota passed away Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, following a six month battle with stomach cancer.

Ryan was born on March 29, 1969 in Austin, Minnesota, to Roger and Shirley (Matheis) Gordon. He graduated from Southland High School in 1987 and went on to continue his education at Winona State University graduating with his Bachelor's Degree in 1992. He worked for several years at Allianz in Golden Valley and was currently working as the Director of Internal Audit at United Healthgroup in Minnetonka, Minnesota.

On December 11, 1993, Ryan married Michelle Durst and together they had a son, Jacob. On May 20, 2006, on the shores of Lake Superior, Ryan married Shannon Trende. This union blessed Ryan with another son, Brecken. His wife and his sons were his most cherished loves.

He had a great passion for the game of golf and was currently a member of Northfield Golf Club. He loved to play in tournaments with his Dad and brother. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. Ryan and Shannon took many trips to the Trende cabin and to the North Shore of Minnesota. Ryan always showed his devotion to his family. His family was ever present in his activities. Whether he was golfing, snowmobiling, or just walking around the block he included his family.

He was a leader in every sense of the word. He showed that leadership ability with his latest battle. Ryan faced this adversary head-on with strength, courage, determination, and hope, which was truly inspiring for those around him. His "Lion's Roar" was heard by everyone and they came to his side forming his "Pride."

Ryan was preceded in death by grandparents: Roy and Leona Gordon, Joseph Matheis, Uncle: Richard Matheis, Aunt: Bonnie Anderson.

Ryan is survived by his wife, Shannon of Farmington, Minnesota; sons, Jacob and Brecken Gordon of Farmington, Minnesota; parents, Roger and Shirley Gordon of Adams; brother, Chad Gordon of Adams; mother-in-law and father-in-law, David and Laurie Trende of Watertown, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Sommer (Paul) Eveslage of Waconia, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Tyler Trende of Watertown, Minnesota; nephew, Cooper Eveslage; grandmother, Velma Matheis of Adams; aunts, uncles, cousins and the rest of his "Pride."

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday December 1, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams with Father Thomas Loomis officiating. Interment will be at Little Cedar Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Adams Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and for one hour before the service on Thursday at the church.

In Lieu of Flowers the family prefers memorials to St. Jude Cancer Research or Northfield Community Hospital for Infusion Center Expansion or Donations to Jacob and Brecken's College funds.

Thomas J. Raschke, 54

1957-2011

Thomas J. Raschke, 54, of Owatonna, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at his home with his family at his side.

Tom was born on January 11, 1957, in Rochester, the son of Gerald and Deloris (Kneeland) Raschke. He was raised in Austin and attended Austin Senior High School prior to enlisting in the Navy in 1974. He served on a helicopter carrier, the USS Guam. Tom received his honorable discharge in 1976. He was united in marriage to Darla J. Stoltz on August 19, 1978, at St. Michael Lutheran Church, Waltham, Minn.

In 1984, he graduated from Austin Vocational and Technical College with a degree in graphic technology. Tom worked as a press operator for Johnson Printing in Rochester, the Faribault Daily News, and J. C. Press in Owatonna. In 1998, he began working at the Eagles in Owatonna as a cook until August of this year. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gathering morel mushrooms. He also loved music, especially the blues and bluegrass.

He is survived by his wife, Darla Raschke of Owatonna; son, Jonathan (Charity Braulik) Raschke of Owatonna; five grandchildren, Kieara Raschke, Devyn Raschke, Tessa Sjol, Hayden Muldoon and Sky Olson. Tom is also survived by a sister, Mary (Richard) Woulfe of Kenyon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael Raschke and a sister, Nancy Bentzin.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, and one hour before the service in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at Michaelson Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward McGrath officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. Military honors will be provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit.

Rhonda Susanne (Koch) McCabe

1956-2011

Rhonda Susanne McCabe, 55, of Austin, Minnesota, and formerly of Wykoff, Minnesota, died November 26, 2011, at the Adams Health Care Center in Adams, Minnesota.

She was born March 9, 1956, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to James and Jean McCabe. She married Kenneth Koch; they later divorced.

Rhonda loved to fish, play cards and tell stories. She was generous to a fault, always seeing the good in people. She had a natural talent with crafts and enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor.

Rhonda is survived by her daughter, Erika (Felipe) Contreras of Horizon City, Texas; two granddaughters, Mariah and Alycia of Horizon City; a very special friend, LeRoy Wollschlager; parents, Jim and Jean McCabe; sisters, Renita (Donald) Irvin of Rose Creek, Jodi McCabe (Kevin Hanson) of Bloomington, Minn., Julaine (Paul)Schmidt of St. Paul, Minn., Mindy McCabe of Dallas; nieces, Krystina Irvin of San Antonio, Texas, Samantha Irvin of Ames, Iowa, Danielle Irvin of LaCrosse, Wis., Kaila Bedford of Bloomington, Cabriahn McCabe of Dallas; nephews, Tyler Irvin of Rochester, Minn., Ryan and Paul Schmidt of St. Paul; two grandchildren; numerous aunts; uncles and cousins.

Rhonda was preceded in death by a brother, Marti; grandparents, Francis and Mae Gossman, Richard and Gladys McCabe.

Avis M. Wood, age 71, of Austin, Minnesota, died on December 1, 2011 at St. Marys’ Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Avis was born in Mantorville, Minnesota, on June 29, 1940 to Maynard and Ruth (Sowden) White. She married Paul Wood on June 9, 1979 at the Crane Chapel. Avis worked at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home for 28 years as a dietary aide. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending her time with friends and family. Avis was known for sending out cards at every possible occasion, to many she was known as the Card Angel.

Avis is preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Maynard White, mother and father-in-law Carrie and Charles Wood, grandson Randy Stahl II, aunts and uncles.

Walter Frank Stoll, 75

1935-2011

Walter Frank Stoll, 75, of Austin, Minnesota, died on November 20, 2011, in Rochester, Minnesota, from a heart attack.

He was born on December 2, 1935, in Mankato, Minnesota, to Emil August Stoll and Leta Mary Wade Stoll. On May 4, 1963, he married Dee Best in Mankato. Walter worked at Hormel Foods for 30 years. He enjoyed golf, gardening, casinos, yardwork, cutting wood, collecting coins and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Dee Stoll; children, Kathryn (Chris) Larson, Brenda (Richard) Reeder, Cynthia (Jared) Jacobson; brothers, Robert (Carol), Rolland (Joanne), Donald (Kathi); sisters, Bonita (Wilbur Rollings), De De Stoll; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister and brother-in-law, Marlys and Carl Thelemann.
