Amund Olson 1849-1930
Many Attend Olson Funeral
"The year of 1930 is the year of release for the Olson family." said Rev.
Langehough, as he addressed the large number who assembled to attend the
funeral of the late Amund Olson, Sunday afternoon. The Reverend took his
text from the 15th chapter of Deuteronomy, and referring to the year of
release, applied it to the passing of Mr. and Mrs. Amund Olson.
For years, this respected couple resided in this community, until they
both had passed the allotted time of four score years. The good wife
helpmate, his senior according to time, preceded Mr. Olson in death by
a couple months, as she passed away the 25th of June.
Mr. Olson had not been well for many years, and was a constant sufferer
during the latter years of his pilgrimage. After the death of his wife, he
realized that his days were numbered, and his stay brief. He will be greatly
missed, not only by the family and relatives, but by many who learned to
know him as he struggled and toiled for his family.
To him it was indeed a year of release. He is gone, but not forgotten,
as the large number who gathered to pay their last respects, testified.
This is the second instance where a mother and father, life long
residents of this community have been called from their labors, within
the last few months. We refer to the passing of Mr. and Mrs. K.L. Leidall
and Mr. and Mrs. Olson.
Amund Olson was born on the 17th of June, 1849, in Fladal, Norway. He
was baptized by Rev. Lanstad and confirmed by Rev. Selmer. On October 14,
1870, he was united in marriage to Helga Swenson. To this union nine
children were born, eight of whom are living: Mrs. Newton Dennis, Mr.
W.B. Helfritz, Mrs. E.H. Schwanke, Mrs. Geo. Jahr, Mrs. Julia Peterson,
Sam, Ole, and Eggen, all of Lyle.
He came to America with his family. May 24th, 1880, locating at Lyle
where they made their home for a year, later moving onto a farm, four
miles west of Lyle, where they resided 28 years. He then sold his farm,
moving back to Lyle, where he continued to make his home.
He leaves to mourn his passing, besides his family, one brother Osmun
Olson, of Lyle, 29 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild.
He passed away Thursday September 4th 1930, at the age of 81 years two
months and 18 days. The remains were laid to rest in Pleasant Hill Cemetery
at Mona, Iowa, in the family lot.
The following from away were here to attend the funeral: Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Wollenberg, Floyd Johnson, Lafayette Olson of Minneapolis; Mr. and
Mrs. Johnnie Myhre, B. Myhre, Mrs. Beadle, Mr. and Mrs. Randall Perkins,
Mr. and Mrs. Mike Ross, Mrs. Ole Olson, all of Austin.

Eggen Olson 1882-1932
#1:
OBITUARY
Eggen Olson was born March 15, 1882, and died October 22, 1932 at the
age of 50 years, 7 months and 7 days. He was baptized and confirmed into
the Lutheran faith by Rev. Eggen, at Mona, Iowa. He was born in Lyle, but
soon after moved with his parents to their farm west of Lyle, where he grew
to manhood. For the past 20 years he has worked for the I.C. (Illinois
Central) Railroad Co. where he was employed at the time he was taken sick.
On October 11th, he was admitted to St. Olaf Hospital, where he submitted
to an operation from which he failed to recover.
He was a kind-hearted and home loving man, and will be greatly missed
by all his relatives and friends. He leaves to mourn his death, five
sisters and two brothers; Mrs. Newton Dennis, Mrs. Julia Peterson, Mrs.
Emil Schwanke, Mrs. Ben Helfritz, Mrs. Geo. Jahr, Sam Olson and Ole Olson,
all of whom reside in this community, also a large number of other
relatives. He was preceded in death by both parents in the year, 1930.
A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
God in his wisdom has recalled
The boon his love had given,
And tho' the body slumbers here
The soul rests safe in Heaven."
-Contributed
The passing of Eggen Olson was a shock to his many friends and relatives
as he appeared strong, robust, and in the prime of life until a few months
ago. No one thought that Eggen would be the first to follow his parents in
death, but human reckoning fails, in the light of eternity and according to
the inevitable balances.
Two weeks from the time he was taken to the hospital, he was being laid
to rest in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. During those weeks and days he suffered
much as medical skill and tender care could not allay pain or stop the grim
messenger, death.
Early Friday morning, the relatives were summoned as it was thought
he was passing. Later on he rallied, but only for a day when his earthly
career ended.
Those who knew Eggen Olson best will remember him as a kind, big
hearted brother and friend.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the home, and the Lyle
Lutheran Church. Rev. Langehough his pastor, had charge of the service.
The pall bearers were Geo. M. Anderson, Geo. Wyborny, H.H. Lunde, Geo.
Jahr, John Hanson and Bert Swenson.
Those here from away to attend the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Herman Burndt
and Chester; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Burndt and Mr. and Mrs. Ole Olson of
Austin.
Card of Thanks
We wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to Rev.
Langehough, the Male Chorus, the ladies who decorated the church, those
who sent floral tributes and those who furnished cars for the funeral and
all others who in any way assisted us by kindness or sympathy during the
illness and after the death of Eggen Olson.

Lizzie (Olson) Helfritz 1884-1933
#1:
Obituary
Lizzie Olson Helfritz, daughter of Amund and Helga Olson, was born
February 15, 1884 on a farm in Lyle township and passed away January 28,
1933, at the age of 48 years, 11 months, and 3 days.
One June 20, 1909 she was united in marriage to W.B. Helfritz of St.
Ansgar, Iowa.
This union was blessed with nine children, two having preceded her in
death. Leaving besides her husband, Hazel, Russell, Otto, Delmar, Gladys,
Lois, and Robert at home.
Mrs. Helfritz was a home-loving woman, always thinking of her family.
During the past year, she had not been in the best of health, and became
steadily weaker, so it became necessary for her to remain in bed where she
was given the best of care.
But medical skill and tender care could not stop the messenger, death,
and on January 28th, she passed quietly away, leaving only a memory of a
kind-hearted and dear mother who will be sadly missed by her family.
She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her immediate family; four sisters
and two brothers; Mrs. Newton Dennis, Mrs. Julia Peterson; Mrs. Emil
Schwanke, Mrs. George Jahr, Sam and Ole Olson, all whom reside in this
community.
How hard it is to part on earth.
With those we love so dear.
The heart no greater trial knows,
No sorrow more severe.
What happy hours we once enjoyed
How sweet your memory still.
But you have left an aching void,
This world can never fill.
