Anna (Smith) Bonnallie 1854-1908
#1:
The funeral services of Mrs. William Bonnallie were held at the home at
one o'clock Tuesday afternoon and at the London church at two o'clock.
Prayer was offered at the home by Rev. Sloane, and the preaching at the
church, text John 14:1-2. The sermon was appropriate for the occasion;
the prayer was offered by the pastor of the church.
The following hymns were sung by Mesdames George Hormel and Sloane and
Rev. Sloane:
"I Will Sing You a Song of That Beautiful Land," "Face to Face," and "Safe
in the Arms of Jesus." It was a very kind and beautiful thing of the choir
of the Presbyterian church to do. A great many people attended these
services, quite a number from Austin, besides relatives and friends of the
deceased. The church could not seat all, the standing room being occupied.
Beautiful flowers had been provided by the friends. Thus ends the earthly
career of a good wife, mother, neighbor and member of the Presbyterian
church. "She did what she could." Alfred Cressey.
Notes:
Anna Bonnallie, daughter of Edgar and Alida (Westervelt) Smith, was born
on June 14, 1854 in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York. She died on
April 18, 1908 near London, Lyle township, Mower County, Minnesota. She
married William Bonnallie on August 30, 1882 and they farmed near London.
She is survived by her husband William, seven children: William (Artie),
Olive, Mary (Queen), Alida (Pearl), Charlotte, Margaret and George, all at
home; sister Emma (James) Gowlland and brother Arthur Smith; several other
relatives and a host of friends. She is buried at Woodbury Cemetery. Alfred
Cressey who wrote the obituary was her husband's uncle.
Apparently Rev. Sloane was pastor of Central Presbyterian Church in
Austin where Anna was a member.

Mrs. William Bonnallie, whose death we noted last week, was
born in Poughkeepsie, N. Y., June 11, 1854. She was the daughter of the
late Edgar Smith, one of the early settlers of Lyle township. The family
moved to Dane county, Wis., in 1855 and to Lyle township in 1869.
She was married at her home to William Bonnallie Aug.
30, 1882, and this continued her home during her married life. She was
converted early in life and united with the Presbyterian church at
Woodbury, subsequently transferring her membership to the Central
Presbyterian church of Austin. She died of diabetes April 18, 1908,
after an illness of two weeks.
She was a devoted Christian, a good wife, mother and
neighbor. Funeral services were held in the church in London village,
April 21, the church being crowded. Rev. W. E. Sloane of Austin, pastor
of the deceased, preached a sermon from John 14:1. Prayer was offered by

call her blessed for she did what she could. The children are, William
Arthur, Olive Belle, Mary Corena, Alida Pearl, Charlotte Anna, Margaret
Emma and George Edgar. Arthur A. Smith of this city is a brother of

Isabelle (Bonnallie) Officer
1858-1928
Isabelle, wife of William W. Officer, passed away at her home in Myrtle,
Minnesota, at 5:30 Thursday morning, July 19, 1928. The cause of death was
heart failure. Mrs. Officer had not been well for some time, still her
relatives thought her health was improving and her sudden passing was a
shock to all, and cast a shadow of gloom over the entire community.
Isabelle, daughter of Thomas and Charlotte Bonnallie, was born in Cedar
City, Mower County, Minnesota, June 15, 1858, and had reached the age of
seventy years, one month and four days at the time of her death.
At the tender age of seven years she was left motherless, and from that
time until her marriage she made her home with an aunt, Mrs. John Niles.
On July 14, 1883, she was united in marriage with William W. Officer.
There were two daughters born from this union.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Ann (Mrs. E.N. Russ,
Robinsdale, Minnesota), Gladys of Myrtle; three brothers: William of Lyle,
Minnesota, Jerry of Everett, Washington, and Thomas of Minneapolis; and by
a host of friends.
At an early age she accepted Christ as her leader and affiliated with
the Methodist Church.
She was a most devoted wife and mother, a true friend, a kind and
considerate neighbor, loved and revered by all who knew her.
She lived an unselfish life, a life from which there radiated that
tender love and sympathy that tends to lighten the burdens and sorrows of
those about her, a life full of kind and unselfish acts. The mortal life
of this wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend is ended, but to those who
survive, she has left a priceless heritage of a life so full of good deeds,
and unselfish acts of kindness, that all who knew and loved her know that
this world of ours is much better because of the beautiful life she lived.
Funeral was held on the lawn of her home in Myrtle, Sunday afternoon,
July 22nd, at 2:30 o'clock. Services were conducted by Rev. H. W. Bondo,
Albert Lea, and Dr. E.P. Robertson, President of Wesley College, Grand
Forks, N. Dakota. Interment was made in the London Cemetery.

NOTE:
E.P. Robertson was her step brother, son of Mrs. Peter Robertson,
second wife of Thomas Bonnallie.

Arthur A. Smith
1858-1939
Arthur A. Smith was born on September 24, 1858, near Belville, Dane
county, Wisconsin, son of Edgar and Alida Smith. The first ten years of
this life were spent with his parents on the farm. In the fall of 1868
the family left Belville by covered wagon, and settled on a homestead,
now known as the William Bonnallie farm, southwest of Austin, in Mower
county. He began his education in the old Ames school, later attending
high schools of Albert Lea and Austin, completing his course at the latter.
On May 7, 1883, Mr. Smith was united in marriage to Emma A. Ames of Austin.
The young couple moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where Mr. Smith worked
for the International Harvester Company. On July 30, 1885 a daughter named
Hazel was born to them. She passed away on February 28, 1923; and her mother
had passed away a few weeks after her birth -- September 13, 1885, at Sioux
Falls.
After the death of his wife, Mr. Smith and Hazel returned to Austin, where
the former became an employee of the C.M. St. Paul Railroad, working as a
carpenter for a number of years.
On April 9, 1890 Mr. Smith was joined in marriage to Caroline
G. Kaar of Princeton, Illinois. To this union two children were born, Lore
Edgar of Mankato, and Mrs. Myrtle Mary Nelson of Myrtle. The couple settled
in Princeton, and Mr. Smith became a building contractor. In the year 1898
Mr. Smith and his family returned to Austin, where he established himself
as a contactor, making a specialty of barn building. They lived at 589 South Fourth Street, Austin, until 1925 when they moved to Marshall, Minnesota, where with his son, Lore, he engaged in the implement business.
Two years later, Mr. Smith moved to Milroy where he operated a hardware
and implement business. Two years later, Mr. Smith retired from active
business and settled at Myrtle which was their home until Mrs. Smith passed
away on June 10, 1935. Since that time Mr. Smith has made his home with his
children, Lore of Mankato and Myrtle of Myrtle.
Mr. Smith passed away on June 8, 1939, at the home of his daughter, Mrs.
E. E. Nelson of Myrtle, following an acute heart attack earlier in the day.
The hour of his departure was 4:15 p.m. He had attained the ripe age of
80 years 8 months and 18 days.
Two sisters, Mrs. Ann[a] Bonnallie and Mrs. Emma Gowlland preceded him in
death.
He leaves to mourn his departure his son Lore of Mankato and his daughter
Myrtle of Myrtle, five grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.
Mr. Smith was an ardent member of the Central Presbyterian Church for
many years. In the course of his service he became a trustee, an elder,
and superintendent of the Sunday school, giving an excellent account of his
stewardship in all capacities. In the year 1935[8?] the central session made
him elder emeritus, an honor that delighted his heart. He has passed on
leaving behind a record worth emulating, "With long life will I satisfy
him, and show him my salvation."
