Mary Electa (Hall) Horton 1918-2010
Mary Electa Horton, 92, of Roseville, formerly of Austin, passed away on
November 4, 2010.
Mary was born Oct. 7, 1918, at the family farm near Plainview to Tom and
Caroline Hall. She attended a one room country school and graduated from
St. Francis School of Nursing in La Crosse, Wis. with an RN degree. She loved
being a nurse. In 1942, she became the World War II soldier’s bride of Bert
Horton and began raising a family of five. She lived in Austin from 1953 to
1970 and was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin.
She is survived by her children: Peter (Annette) Horton; Catherine
(Bill) Morin; Mary Jane Horton and Jean (Jim) Klee; eight grandchildren;
four great-grandchildren and many loved nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Bert; son, James;
daughter-in-law, Annette; and all eight of her brothers and sisters.
She was a cherished grandmother, a dear mother, a great friend and
dedicated to her Catholic faith. She will be missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday Nov. 9
at St. Odilia Catholic Church in Shoreview. Interment was at Fort Snelling
National Cemetery.

Adeline N. (Dial) Cotter 1914-2010
#1:
Adeline N. Cotter, 96, a former Austin resident, passed away Wednesday,
November 17, 2010, in Vista, California.
Adeline was born on September 11, 1914, in Austin to Rosco and Irene (Benda)
Dial. She was married April 20, 1940, to Kenneth Cotter in the St. Augustine
Rectory and they celebrated 56 years together. She was a devoted wife,
mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and her family was the love of
her life.
She leaves to mourn her three daughters and son in law, Marlene Helsene,
Fallbrook, California; Carole Finnerty, San Diego, California; and Janice
and Richard Schmitz, Bonney Lake, Washington, eight grandchildren, eight
great-grandchildren, sister Julia Parnacott, Alma, Michigan; and
sister-in-law, Grace Cotter, Austin.
She is preceded in death by husband Kenneth on April 21, 1994, infant
daughter Ruth Marie, her parents, two brothers and one sister.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at
St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Friends
may call one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Interment
will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Adeline N. (Dial) Cotter, 96
Adeline N. Cotter, age 96, a former Austin resident, passed away
Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, in Vista, Calif.
Adeline was born Sept. 11, 1914, in Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, to
Rosco and Irene (Benda) Dial. She was married April 20, 1940, to Kenneth
Cotter in the St. Augustine Rectory and they celebrated 56 years together.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and her
family was the love of her life.

at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There
will be a 4 p.m. CCW rosary on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends
may call from 4 to 5 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church
on Monday.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Karen Lee Emma (Roseth) Johnson1938-2010
Karen Lee Emma Johnson passed away on October 3, 2010, in Washington state.
Johnson was born in 1938 to Monroe and Freda (Meier) Roseth. She graduated
from Austin High School. She was married to Robert Johnson in 1954. Johnson
worked at True Value Hardware in Seattle, Washington. She was a Girl Scout
Troop Leader and a member of the Hope Lutheran Church. She enjoyed piano,
violin, singing, skating and visiting with her great-granddaughters.
She is survived by her husband Robert Johnson, Washington; brother
Charles Roseth, Minnesota; sons Steven Johnson, Washington; Robert Johnson,
California; Jeffrey Johnson, Washington; adopted (grand)daughters Tiara
Johnson Andress, Washington; Helen Johnson, Washington; grandsons Robert
Johnson, Washington; Ronald Johnson, North Carolina; Matthew Johnson,
California; great-granddaughters Amelia and Olivia Andress Washington;
and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents Monroe and Freda Roseth, sister
Evelyn Roseth, and brothers Lawrence, Harold, Richard, and Ronald Roseth.

Merrill E. Chesebrough 1919-2010
Merrill E. Chesebrough, son of Earl Chesebrough and Birdie Somerville,
was born in LeRoy, Mower county, Minnesota, on March 27, 1919. He was an
only child. Merrill attended public school in LeRoy, graduating in 1936.
Due to his father’s illness, he worked with his mother publishing the LeRoy
Independent, immediately after graduation from high school.
In May 1942, he was enlisted in the U.S. Army Signal Corps serving during
World War II until July, 1946. His service included two years in Europe. In
October 1950 he was recalled to active duty during the Korean War, serving
until March, 1952. He was discharged with the rank of Captain.
Chesebrough was elected Mayor or LeRoy in the fall of 1949, serving from
January 1, 1950, until his recalling to active military service. Following
his return from military service, he again became Mayor and continued in
that office for 12 years. In 1970, he was appointed clerk-treasurer of the
city of LeRoy, serving in office for 14 years; he retired Dec. 31, 1984.
When a teenager, Chesebrough united with the First Baptist Church of
LeRoy, later joining the First Presbyterian Church of LeRoy. He was also
a member of the LeRoy Masonic Lodge and other Masonic organizations,
including: Osman Shrine Temple St. Paul, LeRoy Commercial Club, LeRoy Rod
and Gun Club and the LeRoy American Legion Post No. 161.
He was associated with his mother, Mrs. Birdie Hanks, in publication of
the LeRoy Independent from 1936 until the fall of 1968, when the paper was
sold to Carl Cassidy of Lime Springs, Iowa.
Chesebrough was active in community affairs. In addition to 26 years as
Mayor/Clerk-Treasure of LeRoy, he served as a member of the Mower County
Fair Board, Mower County Mental Health Clinic, Mower County Selective
Service Board, Mower County Housing and Redevelopment Authority, Southeaster
Minnesota Regional Development Commission (Region 10), Mower County Planning
Commission and was Director of the First National Bank of LeRoy for 25 years.
He is survived by six step-brothers and sisters: Fred J. (Donna) Hanks,
LeRoy; Rev. Bruce Hanks, Marble Falls, Texas; Mrs. Wayne (Marilyn) Wells,
LeSueur; Mrs. Robert (Lorraine) Westfall, Dexter; Mrs. Herschel (Hildreth)
Wilson, Springfield, Ohio; John Hanks, Chillicothe, Missouri; numerous
cousins, step-nephews, step-nieces and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Chesebrough and Birdie
Hanks; step-fathers: G. Selbin Ecklund and Howard Hanks; several aunts and
uncles.
Funeral services for Merrill will be held 11a.m. Saturday Nov. 20,
2010, at the First Presbyterian Church in LeRoy with Rev Neal Solomonson
officiating. Visitation will be held 10 a.m. until time of service at the
church. Burial will be at the LeRoy cemetery.

Jean Yvonne (nee Stark)(Edison) Schaefer1939-2010
Jean Yvonne (Edison) Schaefer, 71 of McIntire, Iowa, formerly of Austin
died Thursday morning, Nov. 18, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society in St. Ansgar,
Mitchell county, Iowa.
She was born on October 2, 1939, in Comfrey, Minnesota, to Otto and Ethel
(Schroeder) Stark. After graduation from Redwood Falls High School in 1957,
Jean attended Austin Vo-Tech where she trained to become a Licensed
Practical Nurse. She married David Edison on March 17, 1963, in Austin.
They were later divorced, and she married Michael Schaefer on July 23,
1994, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
She worked for 37 and a half years at St. Olaf Hospital which is now
known as Austin Medical Center, the majority of time in obstetrics. A member
of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the Eagles Club and the Adams American Legion
Auxiliary, she enjoyed knitting, spending time with her grandchildren and
volunteering at many functions, including Osage Hospital and Veterans Day
events.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Schaefer of McIntire, Iowa; two
daughters, Jane (Robert) Rascon of Albert Lea; Amy (Mike) Stephens of Rose
Creek; five grandchildren, Amanda Edison; Matthew, Luke, Jacob and Hope
Stephens; two sisters, Marilyn (Paul) Elwein of Brainerd, Lynette Chapman
of Cannon Falls; brother-in-law, Dwayne Anderson of Albert Lea; nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, David
Edison; a brother, Dennis Stark and one sister, Kathleen Anderson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at St.
Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Ron Barnett officiating. Friends
may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and at
the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery,

George A. Levy Sr. 1915-2010
George A. Levy, Sr., 94, of Robbinsdale, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday,
November 16, 2010.
George was born December 29, 1915, in Austin, Mower county, Minnesota to
the late Rudolph and Elizabeth (Krob) Levy.
He was a member of the D.A.V., Blinded Veterans Association, and Crystal
K of C Council No. 3656 and was formerly active in Friendship Force and
Vision Loss Resources.
George is survived by and will be dearly missed by son: George Jr.
(Beverly); daughters: Adrienne (Rick) Riley and Denise Levy; grandchildren:
Jason (Shannon), Michael, Erin, Robert, Patrick (Lark), and Blake (Jessica);
great-grandchildren: Jade, Murphy, Kiara, Brooklyn, and Leo; other relatives
and friends.
He was preceded in death by wife, Arlene; and brother, Donald.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at 10 a.m.
at the Church of St. Margaret Mary in Golden Valley, Minn. Interment is
Monday at 3 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Visitation is today from 4
to 7 p.m. with prayer services at 5 p.m. at Gearty-Delmore Robbinsdale
Chapel, 39th and W. Broadway and one hour before the Mass at the church.
Memorials are preferred to Vision Loss Resources, 1936 Lyndale Ave. S.,
Minneapolis, MN 55403.

James William Read1923-2010
On the morning of November 16, 2010, our dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and
brother, James (Jim) William Read, was called to rest with Christ.
Jim was born on April 19, 1923, to Martin and Inez (Long) Read in Spencer,
Iowa. Jim was very active in 4-H, basketball, and was the Iowa Boys’ State
representative for Arnolds Park, where he graduated and also met his high
school sweetheart and future wife, Juanita Delores Reynolds.
Jim served in World War II in the Army Air Corp. When Jim got back to
Iowa, he married Juanita and started farming with a brand new John Deere B
and great work ethic! In 1948, Jim and Nita were the Iowa G.I. Farm Family
Dickinson County Winner, for outstanding achievement in agriculture. In the
spring of 1954, Jim moved his family to Austin, Minnesota, where he purchased
his first farm and raised his children, Nancy, Rodney, James Sheldon, Rose,
Joe Don, Roger, Maynard and Kay LaRae.
Jim took great care of his livestock and farm, and one of his greatest
joys was keeping the farm in a 5-year crop rotation for 50 years. Jim was
known as the area “Santa” to the neighbor children, and gifted Nita’s famous
popcorn balls as he left with sleigh bells ringing. He and Nita also hosted
many thrashing demonstrations for the neighbors. Jim was a member of the
Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders Association, Suffolk Draft Horse Association,
and treasured his faith as a “Golden” 50 plus year member of First United
Methodist Church in Austin. Jim served a number of years as the Lyle
Township Treasurer. He was so proud of the multiple gallon pins received
as a blood donor. Jim continued his love of 4-H while assisting his
grandchildren in showing the big brown cows he so loved.
Surviving this gentle man are his children: Nancy (Bill) Dvorak,
Rochester, Minn.; Tech.Sgt (USAF retired) Rodney (Mary Margaret) Read,
Ledbetter, Texas; Rose (Rev. Dennis) Tamke, Austin; Roger (Lori) Read, Lyle
Maynard Read, Rochester; Kay LaRae (Andrew) Lynch, Kettering, Ohio;
grandchildren: Chad (Angela) Tamke, Katherine Meyer, Jennifer (Nate)
Bastian, Sara (Jon) Burkhart, Elizabeth (Justin) Sommerfeld, Gregory
Read, Pete Dvorak (Celeste), Bethany (Kris) Folland, Claire Lynch,
Patricia Lynch, and Margaret Lynch; great grandchildren: Peter Meyer,
Josie Meyer, Jacob Burkhart, Hannah Burkhart, Mya Burkhart, Jazlynn
Folland, Isaac Folland, McKinley Folland, Track Folland, Olivia
Sommerfeld, Austin Sommerfeld, Bronson Tamke, Ethan Tamke, Tatum
Dvorak and Payton Dvorak; brothers: Dave (Mary) Read, Warsaw, Ind.;
Richard (Lola) Read, Lake Park, Iowa; sister: Mary (Merle) Neimann,
Ankeny, Iowa; brother-in-law: Melvin Haden, Lytton, Iowa; sisters-in-law,
Clara Nelson, Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Rae Dass, Lakefield, Minn., and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Juanita, sons,
James Sheldon and Joe Don, his sister Phyllis Haden.
He has left his children with a love of ice cream, dairy cows, reading,
farm auctions, and a tremendous belief in hard work and acts of kindness.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at
First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Patricia Toschak officiating.
Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemeter, near Austin. Visitation will
be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and for one hour
before the service on Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are preferred to the First United Methodist Church or to Cedar
City Cemetery.

Evelyn (nee Dorn)(Nelson) Vollum 1920-2010
Evelyn M. (Dorn) Vollum, 90, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, died November 19,
2010, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
She was born August 1, 1920, in Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, to
Raymond “Honey” and Alice (Bendickson) Dorn. She was married in 1942 to Lt.
John H. Nelson, who was killed in action in Guam during World War II. She
was later married for 56 years to the late Orville M. Vollum of Albert Lea.
She moved from Austin to the farm near Lerdal with Orville in 1948, and
embraced the new life style. The focus of Evie’s life was always being a
loving, caring and devoted wife, mother to her family and extended family.
She loved the family lake home built by her parents near Elysian, Minn.,
where she hosted many family functions. She was a member of the East Freeborn
Ladies Aid, Quilting Club and, along with Orv, helped found the Albert Lea
Art Center. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by children: Don Nelson (Diane) of Valparaiso, Indiana;
Charles E. Vollum of Albert Lea, and Marcia Stoos (David) of Naperville,
Illinois. Four grandchildren: Jay Nelson of Breckenridge, Colorado; Drew
Nelson of Brooklyn, New York; Cheyene Vollum of South Ogden, Utah and Laura
Keller of Lakeville. One great-granddaughter Makenzie Keller, the recent
light of her life; Sisters-In-Law: Jeanette (Robert) Mortenson of Albert
Lea; Elaine (George) Reed of Annapolis, Maryland; Dr. Muriel “Mimi” Vollum
of Charlotte, North Carolina; Phylis (Wilbbur) Minkel of Mankato.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Donald Dorn of
Austin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010 at the
Bonnerup Funeral Service Chapel. Pastor Matthew Griggs will officiate.
Friends may call from noon until the time of service on Tuesday. In lieu
of flowers memorials can be made to the East Freeborn Lutheran Cemetery
Fund, 23758 785th Ave. Albert Lea, MN 56007.

John Carlyle Howley1925-2010
John Carlyle Howley, 85, of Austin, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at
Kennedy Park Care Center in Weston, Wisconsin.
John was born April 10, 1925, in Austin to Edward and Evelyn (Donnelly)
Howley.
He married Donna Mae Scrabeck on Dec. 28, 1942, in Austin. She preceded
him in death Oct. 2, 2010. He was also a veteran of World War II, serving
in the U.S. Navy. John is also a retired employee of Hormel Foods.
Survivors include his children, Tuti McEwen (Jeff), Bob Howley (Kim),
Jim Howley (Susan) and Sally Robson (John). Fourteen grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Dan and a sister, Georgia
Ann Brewster.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24,
2010, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating.
His family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church on
Wednesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by
American Legion Post No. 91. Arrangements by Mayer Funeral Home.

Irwin A. Erickson, 99 1910-2010
Irwin A. Erickson, age 99, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and formerly of
the Taopi area, died Sunday, November 21, 2010, at the Augustana Care Center
in Minneapolis.
He was born on December 14, 1910, to Iver Erickson and Anna Severson. He
grew up in the Taopi area, later moving to Minneapolis, where he retired
after several decades working for the Zinsmaster Bakery. He regularly
attended the The First Baptist Church in Minneapolis and enjoyed his cars.
He was always quick to strike up a conversation and many referred to him
as a very nice, gentle man.
Graveside services for Irwin A. Erickson will be held 1p.m., Saturday,
Nov. 27, 2010, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Taopi with Rev. Joe Haynes of the
First Baptist Church of Spring Valley officiating. There will be a
visitation from 11a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Hindt Funeral Home
in LeRoy.
He is survived by nieces: Cordelia Whitney, Elaine Wiebrand, Shirley
Tapp; nephews: Ray Monson, Alan Monson; many great nieces, nephews;
great-great nieces and nephews and even, great-great-great nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Iver and Anna Erickson; sisters,
Blanche Whitney and Elva Monson; brothers, Sherwin Erickson and Flyod
Erickson.

Margaret E. (Willson) Johnson 1916-2010
Margaret Eleanor Johnson, 94, died Sept. 16, 2010 in River Falls,
Wisconsin. She was born in rural Mower county on July 5, 1916, to Clarke
and Flora (Swering) Willson. She attended country school and graduated
from Spring Valley High School in 1933.
Margaret attended Minneapolis Business College and the Minneapolis School
of Art. She worked for ten years at the Osterud Insurance Agency in Spring
Valley.
In 1946 she married Norris E. Johnson of Lanesboro at the Little Brown
Church in Nashua, Iowa. They lived in Spring Valley, Minnesota until moving
to River Falls in 2003.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley. First
Congreegational Church in River Falls, and the Society of Mayflower
descendants.
She is survived by her husband, Norris, daughter and son-in-law Suzanne
and Waldo Hagen of River Falls, grandchidlren, Katherine Hagen of Washington,
D.C., and Robert Hagen of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and nieces, Marcia Willson
of Eden Prairie, and Linda Willson of San Antonio, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Clarke S. Willson.
Funeral services wil be Monday, Sept. 20, at Faith United Methodist
Church in Spring Valley with interment at Spring Valley Cemetery.

Hazel Irene (Weiland) Post, 1031907-2010
Hazel Irene (Weiland) Post, 103, died at Austin Medical Center on Nov.
24, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on July 6, 1907 in Pleasant Valley Township near Dexter to
Julius and Bertha Weiland. She grew up on a farm with her two brothers. She
married Clarence O. (Red) Post on Sept. 3, 1929. They made their home in
Austin where they raised a family of five children.
Hazel began her retail career at J.C. Penny Co. She then became the
“go-to-gal” in the children’s department at Fantle’s for many, many years.
She was the oldest member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church.
She is survived by two sons: Robert (Clare) Post of Buffalo; Roger (Kathy)
Post of Edina; three daughters: Lois Post, Sharon DeMoss, Diane (Maynard)
Wolfe all of Austin; grandchildren: Paula, Perrin and Penne Post; Paige
(Len) John; Jill and Julie DeMoss; Jacquenette (Richard) Dorough; Jodi
(John) Dullum; Andrew (Patty) Post; Anne Post; Jason (Valerie) Post; Maren
(Trent) Rutledge; step-grandchildren: Teresa (Ed) Arnold; Michael (Michelle)

Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, at
St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Visitation
will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service on Sunday.
Interment will be held at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Austin.

Gordia was born April 19, 1923, the daughter of George and Genora (Olson)
Erie in Ostander, Minnesota. On March 22, 1947 Gordia was united in marriage
to Arnold Ehlers. A few short years following their marriage the couple made
their home in Rockford.
Gordia looked forward to taking drives and going shopping with her son
and daughter. She loved to watch ''As The world Turns'' on television and
was very disappointed if she missed it.
Those thankful for having shared in Gordia's life include her son, Robert
Ehlers, of Rockford; daughter, Linda Johnson and her husband, Gary, of Spring
Valley, Minn.; three sisters, Pearl Bustad, of Grand Meadow, Minn., Arlene
Skifter, of Grand Meadow, Minn., June Knode and her husband, George, of
LeRoy, Minn.; two brothers, Glen Erie and his wife, Edna, of Marion, and
Arlo Erie and his wife, Roseanne, of LeRoy, Minn.; four grandchildren,
Nicole Beckman, Matthew Johnson, Kari Johnson, and Dana Johnson.
Mrs. Ehlers was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold; and
one sister, Ione Sweetser.

Vance Carlyle Knutson, 791931-2010
Vance Carlyle Knutson, 79, of Austin, Minnesota, died on November 25,
2010 at his home.
Vance was born on November 13, 1931 in Rake, Iowa to Edward and Ella
(Ulven) Knutson. He graduated from Austin High School in 1949.
He married Grace Anderson on July 12, 1952 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in
Austin. She preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 1988. Vance also served in the
U.S. Air Force from 1952 – 1955. He is also a retired employee of Hormel
Foods, retiring in 1992 with 41 years of service. He was a member of St.
Olaf Lutheran Church, The Elks Club and the V.F.W.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and golf.
Survivors include two sons: Charles and Scott Knutson; grandchildren: Anna
Schrader, Peter Knutson, Evan Knutson, David Knutson, Ben Knutson and Nick
Knutson; great-grandchildren: Mason and Carter Schrader; A bother: Willard
Knutson, Longview, Texas and a sister-in-law: Phyllis Knutson, Austin, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son Thomas and his
brother Allen.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, November 29, 2010 at
St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Rev Kristi Koppel officiating. Friends may
call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home and one hour before
the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mark Steven Hillberg1954-2010
Mark Steven Hillberg, age 56, died unexpectedly while at work, Saturday,
November 20, 2010 in York, Nebraska.
He was born April 1, 1954 in Fort Riley, Kansas, to George and Dorothy
(Olson) Hillberg. After graduating from Austin High School in 1972, Mark
joined the Navy. He served four years on the USS Kitty Hawk.
He married Cathy Serra on Dec. 18, 1985 at First United Methodist Church
in Austin, Minn. They were later divorced. Mark was employed as a nationwide
truck driver.
Mr. Hillberg enjoyed talking politics and loved over-the-road trucking.
His true passions were driving a truck and having a dog named Emil.
He is survived by his mother: Dorothy (Wayne) Allore, Austin, Minn.;
sisters: Sherri Erickson, Austin, Minn. and Sara Hillberg, St. Paul, Minn.;
brothers: Lon Hillberg and George (Kimberley) Hillberg, both of Austin,
Minn.; niece: Stephanie Erickson, Austin, Minn.; nephews: Mark Erickson and
Dominic Hillberg, both of Austin, Minn.; grandniece: Lillian Lange Erickson,
Austin, Minn. and his beloved dog Emil.
He was preceded in death by his father, George.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday Dec. 3, 2010 at Worlein
Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation will be one hour before the service
on December 3, 2010 at the funeral home. Military rites will be performed by
the American Legion Post 91. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials are
preferred to the family.

Robert Eugene Olson1929-2010
Robert Eugene Olson, 81, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Friday, November
26, at the Austin Medical Center.
Robert was born on March 23, 1929 in Austin, the son of Sam and Anna
(Westra) Olson. He attended Austin High School. Robert was married to
Barbara Jean Yocom on November 2, 1962 in Austin.
Prior to his retirement Bob worked at the Holiday Inn and the
Weyerhaeuser Company. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and enjoyed
drawing, playing cards and was an avid sports fan. For the past several
years he has resided at St. Marks Lutheran Home in Austin.
He is survived by his wife: Barbara Olson, Austin, Minnesota; daughters:
Valerie Schewe, Blooming Prairie, Minnesota; Carol Gusa, Commerce City,
Colorado; son: Curtis Olson, Austin, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, five
great grandchildren; aunt, Alice Westra, Austin, Minnesota.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Connie Johnson and
a brother Kenneth Olson.
A private family service will be held at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary. In
lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials.

Adrian C. Tinderholt, 94 1916-2010
Adrian C. Tinderholt, 94, a resident of Fergus Falls and formerly of Austin,
died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at the PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
He was born October 2, 1916, in Lac Qui Parle County, the son of Martin
and Sophie (Evenson) Tinderholt. He attended rural elementary school,
graduating from Dawson High School in 1933. He graduated from Augsburg
College in Minneapolis in 1938.
On November 9, 1941, he married Eleanor Leyk in Minneapolis. He was
employed by the Freeborn National Bank of Albert Lea in 1939. He transferred
to the First National Bank of Austin in 1948, where he was the cashier and
comptroller, retiring in 1978.
Adrian was in the U. S. Army during World War II, serving with the 99th
Infantry Division in Europe. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star.
He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the Sons of Norway, both
in Austin.
He is survived by his son, Cecil (Linda) Tinderholt of Northwood, N.D.;
a daughter, Adrianne (Wayne) Miller of Fergus Falls; four granddaughters:
Kolby, Tracy, Jennifer, and Stefanie; two great-granddaughters: Alexandra
and Hannah and one great-grandson, Nicholas.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, and one brother,
LeRoy.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at
the PioneerCare Chapel in Fergus Falls with Chaplain Harry Olson officiating.
Interment will be at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Baxter Township
of Lac Qui Parle County. Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of
arrangements.

Diane Annette Hertle, 69, died Saturday morning, November 27, 2010, at
her home in Austin.
Diane Annette DeVaney was born April 18, 1941, to Emmett and Helen
(Pappas) DeVaney in Austin. She attended Austin public schools, graduating
in 1959. Diane married Clinton Hertle on Sept. 18, 1976, at the Little Brown
Church in Nashua, Iowa.
She worked at the Hormel Office until her retirement in 1994. Diane
enjoyed her years at Lake Pepin with her family and friends as well as
wintering in Carlsbad, Calif. She enjoyed talking on the phone, doing
crossword puzzles and spending time with her numerous friends and family.
She is survived by her husband, Clinton of Austin; sons: Jon Nack,
Austin, Texas; Jerry Nack, Richfield and Bob (Michelle) Nack, Austin;
step-daughters: Sherry (Bill) Maloney, Chanhassen and Lori (Rich) Carlson,
Plymouth; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers: Stanley
(Velva) DeVaney, Flint, Mich. and Jeffrey DeVaney, Baxter; mother-in-law,
Evelyn Hertle, Austin and other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Helen DeVaney.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at
Crane Community Chapel with Rev. Dale Christiansen officiating. Interment

Alberta (Hangge) Gavin, 79 ca1931-2010
Alberta (Hangge) Gavin, 79, of Austin, passed away on Thursday, November
25, 2010 at the Austin Medical Center.
Berta lived in Austin all of her life attending Queen of Angels grade
school and Pacelli (then St. Augustine) High School. She married her high
school sweetheart, Vernon Gavin, and they were happily married for 49 years.
An active member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church, she served as Funeral
Coordinator for a number of years and was involved in many of the activities
with the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center.
Survivors include her children, Larry Gavin and wife Patricia, Lisa
Gavin-Cruse and husband Virgil, Patrick Gavin; grandchildren, Fergus Gavin,
Isaiah Cruse, Annalisa Cruse and Vernon Gavin; brother, Edward Hangge and
wife Virginia; sisters, Lucille Cress and Anne Grund.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon on April 24, 2003; three
brothers and one sister.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 9:00 am on Wednesday, December 1, 2010
at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Jay C. Hormel Nature
Center.

Leslie Lawrence “Les” Hansen, 90, of Rice Lake, died Monday, November
22, 2010, at Rice Lake Concalescent Center.
He was born Dec. 7, 1919, in Alden to Julius and Lila (Baker) Hansen.
He grew up in Alden and later moved to Albert Lea. He married Delores
Fredrickson in Richmond, Calif. in Nov. of 1943.
He worked at Kaiser Shipyard in Richmond, Calif for one year, then
worked for Hormel in Austin until his retirement in 1981. They moved to
Rice Lake in 1982.
He is survived by his wife, Delores of Rice Lake; children: Larry
Hansen of Rice Lake; Jack Hansen of Rice Lake; Curt (Mona) Hansen of
Austin; Bill (Betty) Hansen of Austin; Kathy Hansen (Jim Grosskreutz) of
Rice Lake; 10 grandchildren: Tyanne, Tonya, Trisha, Nain, Lara, Tim, Tony,
Trevor, Troy and Jill; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Weltzen of
Macgregor; brother, Gerold (Doris) Hansen of Albert Lea; several nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Lyle and granddaughter, Julie.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010 at Skinner Funeral
Home in Rice Lake, Wisc. Interment was at Swedish Cemetery also in Rice Lake.

Clayton Francis Kearns, 86 1924-2010
Clayton F. Kearns, 86, of Austin, Minnesota, died at his home on Saturday
November 27, 2010.
Clayton Francis Kearns was born March 25, 1924, in Colorado Springs,
Colorado, the son of Clifford F. and Sadie (Dahl) Kearns. He attended
country school and Austin High School.
Clayton was married to Maxine D. Kraushaar on November 30, 1947, at the
Trondhjem Lutheran Church, rural Freeborn County. They farmed south of
Oakland for 29 years.
In retirement the Kearns moved to Austin, where he was a member of Our
Saviors Lutheran Church and the Mower County Senior Center. Out in the
country, Clayton was called the “Community Ambassador”. He liked to help
people, especially, his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping,
fishing and playing cards.
Clayton is survived by his wife, Maxine Kearns, Austin; children: Dorothy
(Jim) Read, Rochester; Linda (Jake) Jacobson, Oostburg; Wayne (Violet)
Kearns, Byron; Shari (Steve) Mason, Austin; Kathy (Joe) Gray, Austin; 11
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and sister, Janice Slack, Oakland.
Clayton was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday Dec. 1, 2010, at
Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. Dan Kahl officiating.
There will be visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the
church on Wednesday morning. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials

Death: Feb. 21, 1993
AUSTIN, MINNESOTA -- Ray Elwin McGonigle, 99, of Burr Oak Manor in Austin
and formerly of 1005 Eighth Ave. N.E., died Sunday afternoon (Feb. 21, 1993)
at the nursing home.
Born November 28, 1893, in Hamilton County, Iowa, he grew up there and
attended schools in the Jewell area. On February 22, 1917, he married Eunice
Almeda Holt and they lived at Jewell, Titonka, Webster City and Eagle Grove,
Iowa, before moving to Austin in 1940. His wife died March 24, 1970. He was
a former Hormel Foods Corp. employee.
Survivors include three sons, Ronald of Chula Vista, Calif., and Arlo
and Cecil, both of Austin; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a
great-great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Leota Johnson of Bancroft,
Iowa, and Valetta (Mrs. Leonard) Jones of Winner, S.D. Five sisters and
six brothers preceded him in death.
The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Crane Community Chapel in
Austin, with the Rev. Joe Matt officiating. Burial will be in Grandview
Cemetery in Austin.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Thursday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and an hour before the service
at the church.

Vivian (Johnson) Richards, 101 1909-2010
Vivian Richards, 101, passed away November 17, 2010, at Knute Nelson in
Alexandria.
Vivian Marie Richards was born March 27, 1909, in Eastern Township, Otter
Tail County, the tenth child of Swedish immigrants, Andrew and Anna
(Peterson) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran
Church in Parkers Prairie.
Vivian graduated from Parkers Prairie High School in 1926 and after
graduating from St. Cloud Teachers College, she taught school for five
years in Faribault.
On July 9, 1934, she was united in marriage to Roy Richards. They
resided in Austin where they owned and operated a grocery store. Roy
passed away in 1973. Vivian moved to Alexandria, in 1983, to be close to
family. She was an active member at Calvary Lutheran Church and a volunteer
at Knute Nelson. In 2003, she became a resident at Knute Nelson. She was
known by longtime friends as “Babe” and by her nieces and nephews as “Auntie
Babe.”
Playing bridge was a favorite past-time of Vivian’s. She also enjoyed
needlepoint, knitting and baking Swedish pastries and breads. Enjoying
baseball and football, she closely followed the Twins and Vikings. During
her retirement she enjoyed traveling, including, visits to Hawaii,
Scandinavian countries and Israel.
Vivian is survived by nieces: Frances K. Ousley and Donna Sigfrid;
nephews: Merton “Bud” (Irene) Johnson, Russell (Sally) Kiker, Gene Sigfrid,
Robert Sigfrid and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at II a.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at
Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Pastor John Martinson will be
officiating. Organist will be Becky Worley. Interment will be in the
Swedish Lutheran Cemetery near Parkers Prairie. Pallbearers will be
Andrew Jacobson, Joshua Jacobson, John Narum, Drew Schwab, Matthew
Schwab, and Garrett Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Al Stephani, Merton “Bud” Johnson

Erwin Junior “Red” Larson, 79 1930-2010
Erwin Junior “Red” Larson, 79, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday morning,
November 29, 2010, at Albert Lea Medical Center.
Erwin LarsonHe was born December 10, 1930, in Radcliffe, Iowa, the eighth
child of Erwin and Alice (Lunning) Larson. The family moved to Hayward,
where they purchased a farm in 1936. Erwin attended schools in Hayward
and Albert Lea, graduating in 1949 from Albert Lea High School.
He married Ruth Sorlien on February 28, 1953, at Oakland Lutheran
Church. Erwin, commonly known as “Red,” farmed with his dad until 1966.
Red and his family moved into the village of Hayward where he operated the
Amoco bulk oil and gas business. In 1969, they moved to Albert Lea and Red
managed the Amoco Farm Center. They re-located to Fort Dodge, Iowa, in 1979,
where he managed an LP business until 1982. From there they went to Austin
to manage a farm plant until his retirement in 1992.
A member of Hayward Lutheran Church, Red was an avid fisherman and
hunter, liked to play golf, travel, landscape the four-acre lawn and
work with anything in mechanics or carpentry as a hobby. He never said
a cross word. He was always encouraging and lived by what he believed.
“Red” is survived by his wife, Ruth of Austin; son, Jeffrey (Arlene)
Larson of Evansville, Wisc.; daughters: Jodie Larson of Riverton, Wyoming;
Maren (Raymond) Jones of Pt. Kembla, NSW, Australia; Teresa (Bill) Kuntz of
Sigourney, Iowa; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister,
Lucille (Bill) Stephenson of Denver, Colo.; brother, Daryl (Patricia)
Larson of Marshfield, Wisc.; sister-in-law, Lucille Larson of Albert Lea
and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Everett, Luverne,
Jewel and Curtis and sisters, Ethel and Doris.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at
Hayward Lutheran Church with Pastor Katie Fick officiating. Friends may

Patricia Joan Gilbert, 72, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Monday,
November 8, 2010, at Grand Meadow Healthcare Center, Grand Meadow, Mower

Mae I. Gieske, 87, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died at her home
on Tuesday, November 30, 2010.
Mae was born on May 12, 1923, in Decorah, Iowa to Arthur and Louise
(Barth) Kraby. She attended rural school in the Decorah area and at the
age of 18, moved to Austin.
Mae married Walter DuBois Gieske on Oct. 5, 1947, at St. Olaf Lutheran
Church in Austin.
Mae was a homemaker all of her life, but also worked and volunteered at
St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin and had been active in Girl Scouts and
Boy Scouts during her children’s scouting years. She was a charter member
of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin and had been active in many church
groups. Mae enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, reading and was a kind and
caring friend to all. And above all, she deeply loved her family and was a
wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mae is survived by her children: Mary (James) LaRock, Kasson; John (Faye)

great-grandchildren: Peter, Madison, Melia, and David LaRock; brother,
Duwayne (Betty) Kraby, the Villages, Florida; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter in 1994, son,
David in 2008; two sisters and a brother.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Our
Saviors Lutheran Church with the Reverend Glenn L. Monson officiating.
Organist will be Janet Gilbertson and soloist will be the Reverend Dan
Kahl. Visitation will be on Thursday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 5 to
7 p.m. and at the church on Friday one hour before the service. Interment
will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Jason LaRock, Erik
LaRock, Doug Braaten, Terry Diggins, Kurt Potach, and Jack Erwin.
Memorials are preferred to Our Saviors Lutheran Church.

Kimberly Ann (Sessions) Cassidy, 56 1954-2010
Kimberly Ann (Sessions) Cassidy, 56, of Glendale, Arizona, and formerly
of Austin, Minnesota, passed away at her home following a brief illness on
Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010.
Kimberly was born on September 15, 1954 to Hal and Marian Sessions, in
Austin. Kimberly grew up in Austin, graduating from Austin High School as
well as Riverland Community College, formerly the Junior College.
On October 17, 1975, Kimberly married her high-school sweetheart, Michael
Cassidy, in the former First Christian Church in Rochester. Together, they
enjoyed 37 years of marriage and raised two children: Jacob and Cassidy.
Kimberly is survived by her husband, Michael Cassidy; son, Jacob Cassidy,
daughter, Andrea Cassidy-Cabella; three grandchildren; mother and
step-father, Marian and Ron Devlin of Austin; sister, Lindsay (Gary)
Schulz and family of Arlee, Mont. and brother, Cory Sessions and family
of Farmington.
Kimberly is preceded in death by her father, Hal Sessions.
Services will be held at Valley Christian Church in Glendale, Arizona.
Time will heal the sadness we now feel, but our memories will last
forever.

D. William “Bill” Lage, 86 1924-2010
D. William “Bill” Lage, 86, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Wednesday,
December 1, 2010, at Sacred Heart Care Center.
Bill was born on December 3, 1924, in Omaha, Nebraska, to David Peter
and Ella Margaret (Paulsen) Lage. He graduated from Central High School. On
March 30, 1948, he married Marilyn Emily Schonlau in Omaha.
Bill served in the United States Air Corps as a B-17 pilot, stationed in
Foggia, Italy.
Bill taught Industrial Arts (Sheet Metal) and Drivers Education at Austin
High School for 30 years, and Sheet Metal Apprenticeships for adults for 30
years. He was a member of the Austin Model Airplane Club, the Austin Country
Club, Adults with Special Needs and ROAR. Bill was an avid golfer, built and
flew RC model airplanes, made stained glass lamps and furniture. Above all,
Bill was a devoted family man.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Schonlau) Lage, Austin; children:
Barbara (Jack) Butorac, Louisville, Ky; Patty (Tim) Lage-Hiltz, Falmouth,
Maine; Kristine (Dave) Wedl, Caledonia; Katharine (Terry) Mach, Rochester;
David (Nancy) Lage, St. Paul; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Ella Lage; brothers,
Bob and David; sister, Betty and twin-sister, Darlene, all of Omaha, NE.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at
St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating. There
will be a 6 p.m. wake serivce on Saturday at Mayer Funeral Home where
friends may call from 4 to 7 pm. Military rites will be by American
Legion Post #91.

Thanh H. Nguyen, 51 1959-2010
Thanh H. Nguyen, 51, died peacefully at his home in Austin, Mower county,
Minnesota, on November 29, 2010.
He was born November 15, 1959 in My Tho, Vietnam where he grew up. He
moved to Austin in 1975 where he attended Riverland College for two years,
receiving his degree in auto mechanics. He married Hoi Nguyen in Nov. 1981.
The couple owned and operated King Garden, China Wok and Golden Hoagie
Restaurants. He also worked at HyVee for five years. He worked in sanitation
at Hormel Foods, Corp. Thanh enjoyed spending time with friends and family,
singing Karaoke and watching Vikings games.
He is survived by his wife, Hoi of Austin; daughter, Brenda Nguyen of
Florida; son, Brian Nguyen of Florida; mother, Hiep Nguyen; a brother and
three sisters in Vietnam.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010 at
Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Friends may greet the family from
11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Interment is at a later date. Memorials are preferred

Don Brick, 82 1928-2010
Don Brick, 82, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, November 30, 2010,
at the Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea.
Don was born September 13, 1928, in Owatonna to Frederick and Catherine
(Nolan) Brick. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1946. Don enlisted
in the Army, but broke his back in a car accident while he was at basic
training. By 1950, he had his Mortuary Science Degree. In 1952, he returned
to Owatonna to work with his dad who was a mortician. In 1954, Don and his
brother, Bill, lost their father and became co-owners of Brick Funeral and
Furniture Store.
On September 7, 1957, Don was united in marriage to Arlene Teigen at St.
Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna. By 1970, Don and Arlene were parents of
three boys and one girl.
Don found it wise to own his own business. During that time, he moved
his family to Austin after learning that the Meier Wolf Furniture Store
was for sale because of the owner’s retirement. When his middle son, Steve,
graduated from high school in 1980, he wanted to work with his dad in the
furniture business. In 1986, Don bought the Herberger Department Store in
Albert Lea. John, his oldest son, came back from working in Los Angeles to
manage the new Brick Furniture Store. His youngest son, Matt, left college
to work with his brother. In 1992, Don again negotiated to buy the Damon
Department store in Mason City, Iowa. A year later, it too, became Brick’s
Furniture Store managed by his youngest son, Matt.
Don enjoyed golf, tennis, playing cards, fishing, some hunting and
traveling to many interesting places. When he no longer could do these
things, his store, which was his love and his life, became his hobby too.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene, of Austin; daughter, Mary (Phil)
Ralphs of Las Vegas, Nev,; sons: John (Kari) Brick of Albert Lea; Steve
(Nancy) Brick of Austin; Matt (Tara) Brick of Mason City, Iowa;
grandchildren: Gavin Brick, Megan Ralphs, Erin Brick, Paige Brick,
Max Brick, Scott Dahl, Travis Brick and Rylei Brick.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bill.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010 at
Mayer Funeral Home with Father Paul Nelson officiating. Friends may call
from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before
the service on Monday.
Don has donated his body to Mayo Medical Science.

Vernon D. “Chub” Iverson, 83 1927-2010
Vernon D. “Chub” Iverson, 83, of LeRoy died Friday at St. Mary’s Hospital
in Rochester.
He was born April 14, 1927 in Austin, to John Iverson and Lillie Swenson
Iverson. He attended LeRoy school through the eighth grade and then began
his farming career with his father. He was united in marriage to Darlo
Wickstrom on June 22, 1951, in Bowling Green, Ohio. They lived and farmed
in LeRoy until moving to Alaska for Chub’s military assignment in 1954.
They returned to LeRoy to resume farming 19 months later. In 1967, they
moved to the Iverson farm southwest of LeRoy. Chub enjoyed horses and
horseback riding, raising Angus cattle, farming, and his family and friends.
He was a member of the Angus Association, the LeRoy Saddle Club and the
First National Bank Board. He notably served on the LeRoy Co-Op board for
26 years, acting as Chairman for many of those years.
He is survived by three daughters, Deb Iverson of LeRoy; Pam (John)
Koster of Rochester, and Colette (Bill) Miles of LeRoy; four grandchildren,
Jessica and Jenna Meyer and Lauren and Clayton Koster, step-grandchildren
Christopher, Michael, Elizabeth and Thomas Miles and a step great-granddaughter
Ella, one brother-in-law, Elnathan Anderson of Buffalo, Ill.; three nephews,
Nathan, Tim and David Anderson and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Darlo on June 4, 2009,
a sister Marlys and a sister in infancy.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010 at the
LeRoy Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev Elaine Siemsen officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7
p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010 at the Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy and one hour
prior to the service at the church.

Dorothy M. Hoag ca1917-2010
Beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed from this
temporary home into eternal life with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior
on Nov. 30.
Preceded in death by her husband Samuel, sons Gerry and Patrick. Survived
by her children, Samuel (Nadine), Stephen (Linda), Sheila (Dave Donahue),
and Timothy (Susie), 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Her family extends a warm thank you to the caring staff at Sacred Heart
Home Health Care and Prairie Manor Care Center. As Dorothy requested, a
private service in her honor was held at Mayer Funeral Home. Burial will
be at the Fort Snelling Memorial Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Meals
on Wheels or SEMCAC Meals of Austin.

Chase Randall Miller, 251985-2010
Chase Randall Miller, 25, of Austin, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at the
University of Minnesota Medical Center Fairview in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Chase was born June 6, 1985, in Williston, North Dakota to Randy Miller
and Janet (Grad) Sunderman. He attended Catholic schools and graduated from
Pacelli High School in Austin, Minnesota.
Chase was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis several hours after his birth.
Even though he had many health challenges, he believed in enjoying life to
the fullest. His spirit and smile could not be broken. Chase especially
loved the outdoors, anything from snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, to camping
and boating. He enjoyed spending his time with the love of his life, Susie.
He loved his dogs Zena and Davis and they brought him much joy. He will be
truly missed by all of his family and friends.
Survivors include his parents, Janet and Larry Sunderman, Austin, Randy
and Jenny Miller, Gillette, WY; his one true love, Susie Strack, Austin;
one brother, Lucas Sunderman, Austin; sisters, Jennifer (Shawn) Hight,
Gillette, Wyo., Shelby Miller (T.J. Austin), Gillette, Wyo., Paige
Sunderman, Austin, MN; nephew, Caden Hight, Gillette, Wyo.; niece, Avery
Hight, Gillette, Wyo.; grandparents, Rose and Al Grossman, Minot, N.D.,
Bob Walstad, Ambrose, N.D., Joe Sunderman, Austin, MN, Betty and Al “Skin”
Collins, Pine Haven, Wyo.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Claudia Walstad and
maternal grandfather, Patrick Grad.

Mayer Funeral Home with Father Paul Nelson officiating. Friends may call
from 3 p.m. through the time of the service on Wednesday at Mayer Funeral
Home. A funeral service will be held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in
Harvey, North Dakota and interment will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery.
