Mercy General Hospital’s CCC/Rehab. It was her pride and her true friends
and co-workers were her joy. Julie could always find time for camping,
boating, cruising and traveling to any small town with two or more antique

at her home after an eight-month battle with cancer.

She was then raised by her maternal grandparents, John and Daisy Buchanan,
whom she called Mom and Dad. She graduated from Austin High School in 1964.
On June 11, 1965 she married her high school sweetheart, Warren N. Lenz, at
the First United Methodist Church of Austin. Following their marriage Warren
and Bonnie moved to Rochester and built their life together.
Bonnie was a stay-at-home mom until 1988 when she decided to go back to
school to become a Registered Dental Assistant. She said her graduation from
this program was one of her proudest accomplishments in life. She then went

much, that she worked at a variety of dental offices after Dr. Ernster’s
retirement. She also volunteered her time at Good Samaritan Dental Clinic

ROSE CREEK BUSINESS
WOMAN RITES TUESDAY
The community was shocked and saddened last saturday when word was
received of the sudden passing of Miss Jennie Keefe of Rose Creek, following
a heart attack in the afternoon. Death came a half hour after midnight the
same day.
Every honor was accorded a business person when stores in that village
were closed Tuesday morning during the hour of the funeral service at St.

#2:
Jennie Keefe was born in Forest Lake, Wisconsin. The family came to Rose
Creek in 1879 and this was the home since. Their residence previous to that
was in Lansing for a time, and in the school there she was a pupil of Miss
Margaret Evans, a prominent and well known Minnesota educator. She later
attended the Rose Creek school and in Minneapolis for six years she worked
as a stenographer.
A longing for the old home ties and friends, she returned to Rose Creek
and bought the interest of J. C. Shottler in the geneal store, where, with
her brother Ed, she served the public happily for thirty-five years.
Miss Keefe figured in the religious and educational program of her home
village through the years being of keen mind and well read and educated to
the beauty of helping others in substantial and ways of learning she was
known to everyone, and revered by everyone.
Survivors are her brother, Ed, a sister, Mrs. Mary Cronan, and a niece,
Miss Esther Cronan, the latter two of St. Paul. Miss Elizabeth Flint came
from St. Paul to join the throngs of home people and friends from Austin
and Adams, to pay their last respects to one who had helped make Rose Creek
a better place in which to live.

Captain I. N. Morrell 1833-1917
#1:
OBITUARY
CAPT. I. N. MORRELL
When the body of Capt. I. N. Morrell arrived in Austin Thursday for burial,
it brought back a flood of memories to the old settler and suggested the days
when Austin was young. It brought thoughts of the trim and dainty little
bride he brought to Austin before the days of the Civil War; the old Lacy
hotel where he kept tavern; the war times and his enlistment in Co. K.,
Fourth Minnesota, with Capt. Mooers as captain; the news that Capt. Mooers
had been killed in the first skirmish, and that Lieut. Morrell had been
advanced to rank of captain; his service in this capacity to the end of the
war; and the return of the soldiers to Austin.
Those were strenuous, interesting times, and a memorable, important
chapter in the nation's history. And when Capt. Morrell was laid to rest
in Oakwood cemetery, beside his father and mother, his sisters, Mrs. Jerry
Yates and Mrs. Lacy; and his brother Tom Morrell. It was the interment of
one of Austin's earliest settlers and one of her valiant soldiers.
Capt. Morrell was born in Vermont, in 1833. He was married to Miss
Mollie Germond just before the breaking out of the Civil War. The first
call for men (he joined Co. K. Fourth Minnesota and served to the close of
the war.) He was express messenger on the C.M. and St. P. road for
twenty-five to thirty years, making his home in Austin, Calmar, and
Stillwater during that time. Later the family moved to Macomb, Illinois,
where he was express messenger until his retirement some twelve years ago.
He leaves to mourn his loss an invalid wife, now confined in a hospital,
a son, Harry Morrell of Minneapolis, who brought the body to Austin for
burial, and two nieces, Mrs. Frank Haney of Austin, and Mrs. Frank Haywood
of Minneapolis, both of whom were present at the funeral.
The funeral was held at the chapel in Oakwood cemetery Thursday afternoon;
the Rev. Irving Wade of the Christian Church officiating.
