Donna L. Gorvin, 62 of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday October 14, 2010 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester.

Donna Bulson was born on April 14, 1948 in Austin, to Kenneth and Kathleen (Burks) Bulson. She graduated from Austin High School in 1966 and attended medical lab technician training in Minneapolis. Donna was married to Michael D. Gorvin on October 14, 1967 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She worked as a lab tech for Drs. Nesse, Mlinar and Christian and for the Austin Medical Center, and later became a home health aide with the Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.

Donna enjoyed spending time with her family at the lake in northern Minnesota and was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Donna is survived by her husband, Michael D. Gorvin, Austin; daughters: Suzanne Gorvin and Marc Rayman, Austin; Jennifer and Sky Christensen, Seattle, Wash.; son, Steven Gorvin and Kelly Bierne, Austin; grandchildren: Ashley Jax, Anthony Jax, Andy Christensen, Eli Christensen, Ava Christensen and Emma Gorvin; mother, Kathleen Bulson, Austin; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Carol Bulson, Austin; cousin, David Anthony; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother Jerry Bulson; father, Kenneth Bulson and daughter Christine Michelle.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19th at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Reverend Kristi Koppel officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Monday from 5-8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

In Lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society.

David Naatz, 72, of Wheaton, passed away Monday, October 11, 2010, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.

David is formerly of the Austin/Rose Creek, Minnesota area. He graduated from Austin High School in 1955. He spent his adult life as a Veterinary in the Wheaton area.

David is survived by his wife, Solveig Naatz of Wheaton; four children: Duane (Kay) Naatz of Menomonie, Wisconsin; Peder Naatz and Jennifer Sannes of Hawley; Eric (Melissa) Naatz of Litchfield; Sarah (Devon) Bream of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; sister, Mary Judd of Eden Prairie; ten grandchildren: Tyler and Adam Naatz of Menomonie; Jeremy and Justin Walkama of Litchfield; Calvin and Madeleine Bream of Manhattan Beach; Allie, Drew, and Noah Sannes of Hawley; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and two paternal aunts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Hulda (George) Naatz; brother, Duane; and sister, Kathleen.

Funeral Services for David Naatz will be held Friday, Oct. 15, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wheaton with Rev. Thomas Olson officiating. Organist will be Angie Johnson with special music provided by Dennis Johnson. Visitation will be held Thursday Oct. 14 from 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Graveside services were conducted for Ole Johnson, of Austin, Minnesota, at the First Lutheran cemetery, St. Ansgar, Iowa, on Monday afternoon, July 21, 1947.

Mr. Johnson died at an Austin hosptial on Saturday, July 19, 1947, following a heart attack at the home of a daughter.

Mr. Johnson was a former resident of this vicinity and is a brother of Mrs. Amelia Kittleson and Mrs. H.B. Hansen.

He was born on September 19, 1863 at Kristiania, Norway, the son of Martin Johnson Nesset and Bertha Gunderson.

He married Nellie Mae Smith on Noveber 15, 1905 at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. The were the parents of four children: Adeline Beatrice, Mildred Georgina, Olaf Maxwell and Marjorie Eloise. Adeline died as an adolescent.

Nellie was born in 1883 in Mower county, Minnesota, and died in 1931 at Carpenter, Iowa.

Richard Anthony Oxley, 82, flew upon angels wings on Friday evening, October 15, 2010, to join his mother, Ruth; father, Glenn; sister, Margaret; and brother, Robert (Red).

He was born Nov. 24, 1927 on a farm near Corwith, Iowa. He played baseball in his youth, and was on the Corwith High School team, who were 1943 Iowa State Champions. He graduated high school in 1945.

Richard was united in marriage to Marvel Jordanger on August 2, 1947 at Sacred Heart Church in Eagle Grove, Iowa. They farmed near the Corwith area for four years, where their first daughter Peggy was born. Their son, Kelly, was born in Clarion, Iowa, where they lived for two years. They then moved to Rose Creek and lived there for six years. In 1960 they moved to Taopi where their daughter Patty was born. He lived there until his death.

Richard and Marvel were married for 63 love-filled years. He worked hard all his life. He farmed with his son until his death. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, farming, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was happiest when he had the whole family together or got a fish on his line. (To that he would say with a grin, “Got “em!”)

He is survived by his wife, Marvel Oxley, Taopi; children: Peggy (Brian) Bergan, Leroy; Kelly (LaRae) Oxley, Taopi; Patty (Randy) Eastvold, Leroy; grandchildren: Ryan (Hilary) Oxley; Shannan (Mike) Dreyer; Megan Oxley and Tayler; Nate Oxley; Cody Eastvold and Christa; Cole Eastvold and Megan; great-grandchildren: Jordon and Weston Oxley; brother, Jerry (Marge) Oxley, Blooming Prairie; sisters: Glennis (Bob) Green, Carson City, Nevada; Theresa (Dr. Pat) Garry, Elgin, Illinois; Mary Oxley, Corwith, Iowa; sister-in-law, Phyllis Oxley, Kanawha, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Thomas Loomis officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Taopi. Friends may call at the Adams Funeral Home on Monday from 4-8 p.m. and on Tuesday for one hour before the service at the church. There will be a 7:30 p.m. Prayer Service at the Adams Funeral Home on Monday evening.

He loved us all and will be in our hearts forever.

Grace E. Weber, 84, died on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Grace was born in Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, on June 24, 1926 to John and Katrina (Boyenga) Diggins. She married Raymond Weber on October 30, 1946 in Austin. In their early years, they spent time farming. Grace was a homemaker and also was a daycare operator. They moved to Rochester in 1987 after retirement. Grace loved playing the organ and accordion and spending time with her children.

Grace is survived by four children: Karen Weber, Rochester; Ronald Weber, Rochester; Gary (Karen Marie) Weber, Rochester; Debra (Paul) Hancq, Centreville, Virginia; two grandchildren: Kathleen (Raul Alvarado) and John Hancq; a future great-grandson, Jaden; and brother, Roy Eisentrager, Jr.

Grace is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her parents and her sister, Mary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010 at Pax Christi Catholic Church, 4135 18th Ave. NW, with Fr. Joe Keefe officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home and an hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Austin at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Alice L. Clausen, age 91, of Adams, Minnesota, and formerly of Osage, Iowa, died Thursday, October 14, 2010, at the Austin Medical Center in Austin, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 18, 2010, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Rev. Kris Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery at Riceville. Visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Alice was born March 4, 1919, near Crystal Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Rachel (Davis) Rasmussen. She married Floyd Clausen on November 12, 1942, at Riceville, Iowa. They farmed in the David area, moving to Osage in 1948. Alice was employed at the Faith Lutheran Home and Maple Manor Nursing Home, both in Osage.

Alice is survived by two children, Charlene (Herb) Merten of Taopi, Minnesota, Marty Clausen of Osage; four grandchildren, Carol Billings of Austin, Minnesota, John (fiancé, Tracy Tindal) Merten of Austin, Minnesota, Todd (Katie) Clausen of Cedar Falls, Mike (Nikki) Clausen of Green Bay, Wisconsin; eight great-grandchildren, Emily, Zakk, Nicholas, Natalie, Paige, Jackson, Rayanna and Ethyn; one sister, Darlene Summers of Floyd; two brothers, Roger (Leona) Rasmussen of Nora Springs, Archie (Ruth) Rasmussen of Mason City; sisters-in-law, Jean Clausen, Mary (Bob) Weed, Ruby Harold, Grace Rasmussen; brother-in-law, Doug Walker; and many nieces and nephews.

Raymond Davis, 82, passed away Monday, Oct. 18 at Season’s Hospice in Rochester.

Raymond Francis Davis was born in Grand Meadow township, Mower county, Minnesota on November 2, 1927, to Volney and Theckla (Stier) Davis. He was baptized, confirmed, and a lifetime member of St. Finbarr Catholic Church in Grand Meadow. He graduated from Grand Meadow High School, where he enjoyed playing football and was captain of the football team.

Ray served in the Army from 1953-1955, in Fort Riley, Kansas, Korea and Japan. He served on the Grand Meadow Township Board as treasurer for 10 years, and on the St. Finbarr Church Council and Mower County ASCS board for a number of years.

Farming on “ the home place” with his father and brothers was Ray’s livelihood and passion. He loved his hard work on the farm, where, in addition to being a farmer, he was also an expert part-time mechanic, carpenter, electrician, plumber, and veterinarian.

Raymond married Linda Mensink McKee on September 2, 1975, at St. Patrick’ s Catholic Church in LeRoy. He was a devoted husband and father, whose quick wit, sense of humor, kindness, and patience were appreciated by his family every day. He worked hard to support his family and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, whether playing cards, watching Twins baseball, or solving the world’ s problems over coffee at the farm. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; three sons: Todd McKee of Foley; Chad McKee of Las Vegas, NV; Ryan (Lyndsey) Davis of Stewartville; two daughters: Karen Davis of Plymouth; Rachel Davis of Minneapolis; six grandchildren: Morgan Davis, Sarah, Amanda, Scott, Laura, and Nathan McKee; one brother, Glen (Mary Ann) Davis; one sister, Teresa (Truman) Nelson; brother-in-law, Sheldon Churchill and sister-in-law, Shirley Davis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Genevieve, Laurene, and Marcella; brothers: Vern, Stanley, and Donald and grandson, Evan McKee.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 20, 2010 at St. Finbarr Catholic Church in Grand Meadow. Visitation will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday Oct. 19, 2010 at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow with a rosary being recited at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will take place following the service at the church cemetery with military rites by the Harry T. Anderson American Legion Post 140.

Geoffrey Kent Miller, 53 of Hudson, Wisconsin, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010.

Geoffrey graduated from Austin High School and the University of Minnesota with a BA in history. Geoff’s career centered around transportation and facility management. He was fascinated by anything with an engine or a motor; trains and motorcycles were some of his favorites. With his larger-than-life personality, everyone who met Geoff, loved him. He will be greatly missed.

Geoff is survived by the love of his life, Margi, his wife of 31 years; his beloved and cherished daughters: Allie Miller (Will Holeman) of Houston, Texas; Shea Miller of Hudson; his dedicated dad, Herman Miller M.D. of Austin; his dear brother, Greg Miller (Carol Wiebe) of Minneapolis; and his loving Fogarty in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen.

A funeral service was held for Geoff on Thursday, Oct. 14 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Hudson. Visitation was held at the church. Memorials to the family are preferred.

Dr. Thomas Michael Seery, 94, of Austin died peacefully Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Edina surrounded by loving family.

Thomas was born April 8, 1916, in Cadillac, Michigan, to Fred and Lena (Lodenstein) Seery. On June 12, 1941, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Prince. He was a loving husband and father and a shining role model for his five children.

Dr. Seery graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1941. He served in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1943 to 1946. During this time, he spent a year and a half as a battalion surgeon with a Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron in Italy. With a final rank of Major, he was honorably discharged in 1946.

Dr. Seery joined the Austin Medical Clinic in 1948 and continued to serve the Austin community as a Doctor of Internal Medicine until his retirement in 1986. He was well-known as a compassionate and gentle caregiver. Older members of the Austin community may remember Dr. Seery coming to their homes on one of his many house calls during his early years in practice. In addition to patient care, Dr. Seery served the medical community on numerous committees and boards. He was an active member of the Minnesota Heart Association, served two terms as Chairman of the Mower County Mental Health Board and served over 30 years as Chairman of the Mower County Public Health Nursing Board and the Mower County Community Health Services Advisory Committee. Dr. Seery was also Medical Director of the Sacred Heart Hospice and the Saint Mark’s Lutheran Home; represented Mower County on the boards of several state and federal regulatory agencies.

Dr. Seery was a member of the Austin Rotary Club for 60 years and received recognition as the longest member of the Austin Chapter. He was active in the Boy Scouts for many years as a scout, scout leader, and camp physician; he was the proud recipient of the Silver Beaver Award for Service.

Thomas enjoyed travel, music, theater, and the arts. He was an avid reader and supporter of the Austin Public Library. He was also a talented woodworker and handyman, often creating beautifully crafted projects for his home and family.

He was an active volunteer and delivered Meals on Wheels well into his 80’s.

The family would like to give special thanks to the caring staff of the Primrose of Austin, Sunrise of Edina, and Fairview Hospice Care. They also acknowledge the Austin community which provided the professional and personal relationships that enriched his life.

Thomas is survived by his children: Michael Seery, Aspen, CO; Kathleen (Bill) Weis, Kingman, AZ; Susan (Greg) Hallal, Edina; Ann Seery, Cincinnati, Ohio; Beth (Bruce) Lahman, Boulder, Colorado; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Ann (Prince) Seery; two sisters: Ruth Seery and Esther (Seery) Dahlman.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010 at the Church of Saint Augustine with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 5:30 p.m. rosary on Wednesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #91. B. Olive (Ollie Tukua) Bakke, 100, of Austin passed away Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Prairie Manor, Blooming Prairie, her children by her side.

B. Olive BakkeShe was born March 2, 1910 to Arthur and Lilly (Strand) Tukua in Freeborn County. She was baptized and confirmed at West Freeborn Church of Freeborn.

Ollie grew up helping her dad outside on the farm. She attended District 21 School in Freeborn where she played basketball. She completed one year of Teachers Training at Moorhead College and taught country school near Pelican Rapids. While teaching she met her husband Edward. Edward and Ollie were married 70 years. Edward died March 2, 2001, on her birthday.

Ollie was employed by S.S. Kressge, currently Kmart as a bookkeeper. Ollie enjoyed flowers, gardening and going to auctions. Her hobbies included tatting (starting at age five), crocheting, counted cross stitch, quilting and hardanger--a Norwegian stitchery. She lived in her own home reaching the age of 100. She entered Prairie Manor on April 27, 2010.

She is survived by five children: Loetta (Robert) Bjoraker; Eleanor Johnson; Glenn (Deanna) Bakke, all of Austin; Darlene (Raymond) Kyllo, Hayfield; Edward (Ginny) Bakke, St. Peter; 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents; son-in-law, Vernon Johnson; grandson, Jeffery Bakke; great-grandson, Jeremy Learn; siblings: infant brother, Oliver Tukua; Gladys Grotsun; Selma Bergerud; Vernon Tukua and Irwin Tukua.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22, 2010 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Reverend Ron Barnett officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before the service. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

George Davis, 85, of Clarks Grove, Minnesota, died on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

He was born on October 13, 1925 to Charles and Sara (Scearcy) Davis in Blue Earth County. He graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1943 and went to work for Hormel Corporation until he was drafted into the Army. He married Virginia Peterson on June 1, 1947 at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Austin. George started farming in 1948. In 1964 he started driving truck for Ulland Bros. where he remained until 1974 when he became employed by Freeborn County. He retired in 1993 and moved to Clarks Grove in 1997.

A member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Austin, George served on the church council, was a member of the American Legion, the Elks in Albert Lea and served as a 4-H leader. An amateur photographer, he loved fishing, hunting, bird watching and going on trips, especially in the fall. A kind and loving person, he was happiest when family came home on holidays. Always willing to lend a helping hand, he will be sadly missed by his wife and children.

George is survived by his wife, Virginia, Clarks Grove; three sons: Arden (Tammy) Davis. George Davis 1925-2010

George Davis, 85, of Clarks Grove, died Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea.

He was born October 13, 1925, to Charles and Sara (Scearcy) Davis in Blue Earth County. He graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1943 and went to work for Hormel Corporation until he was drafted into the Army.

He married Virginia Peterson on June 1, 1947 at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Austin. George started farming in 1948. In 1964, he started driving truck for Ulland Bros. where he remained until 1974 when he became employed by Freeborn County. He retired in 1993 and moved to Clarks Grove in 1997. A member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, George served on the church council, was a member of the American Legion, the Elks in Albert Lea and served as a 4-H leader. An amateur photographer, he loved fishing, hunting, bird watching and going on trips, especially in the fall. A kind and loving person, he was happiest when family came home on holidays. Always willing to lend a helping hand, he will be sadly missed by his wife and children.

Donna A. (Orpen) Nowell 1922-2010

Donna A. Nowell, 88, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Wednesday October 20, 2010, at the Prairie Manor Health Care Center in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.

Donna was born on January 13, 1922, in Sargeant Township, Mower county, Minnesota, the daughter of Clarence and Matilda (Holen) Orpen. She attended school in Sargeant Township and was married to Dallas A. Nowell on October 14, 1938. They have lived in the Austin area where she was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Donna enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors. She had a great love for animals and enjoyed putting together and working on photo albums.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband Dallas in 1989, a daughter Dorothy Tabor, son Dale Nowell and her parents.

She is survived by daughter and sons-in-law; Gloria and Darryl Wiskow, Pine Island; Glenn Tabor, Kansas; son Gary Lee Nowell, Austin; daughter-in-law, Diane Nowell, Waterloo, Iowa; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Hollis Jacobson, Columbus, Montana, Lola Lysne, Austin; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Joann Orpen, Austin; nieces and nephews.

Rod Kjarum, age 62, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at his home in Castle Rock, Colorado, on Tuesday October 12, 2010.

Rod was born and raised in Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, graduating from Austin High School in 1966. As with so many Austinians, he worked at Hormel while living in Austin. He went on to graduate from Mankato State College in 1972 with a degree in special education. Rod pursued his passion of educating and coaching for more than 30 years in Waterloo, Iowa.

This past summer, Rod enjoyed time in Birchwood, Wisconsin, with his wife, daughters and in-laws enjoying time with his mother-in-law, Shirley. Rod had a special bond with his son-in-laws: Brent and Cliff; mother-in-law, Shirley and brother and sister in-law, Scott and Barb. Rod was also able to spend time with his parents Ken and Harriet and sisters Roxanne and Candy at the Kjarum family homestead in Hovland as well. It was nostalgic of childhood summers spent up in the woods and much reminiscing and fun was had by all.

Rod is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nancy (Hintermeister) Kjarum; daughters: Darcy (Brent) Hendricks and Dara (Cliff) Flowers; his beloved grandchildren: Lillie and Elise Hendricks and Carson and Cooper Flowers, all of Colorado; parents, Ken and Harriet Kjarum of Pine City; sisters: Cindy Kjarum, Roxanne Kjarum and Candy Jackson all formerly of Austin and aunt Lucille Kjarum, currently of Austin.

Rod and his wife Nancy shared a happy and fulfilled life with family and friends and he will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

A Celebration of Life was held at New Hope Presbyterian Church, Colorado, attended by his wife, daughters, parents, sisters, cousins, and well loved family of in-laws. Many Waterloo, Iowa and Colorado friends were also in attendence.

Harry LeRoy Page, Jr., 62 of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died at his home Thursday morning, Oct. 21, 2010.

He was born Oct. 26, 1947, to Harry and Hilda (Rudlong) Page in Austin, Minnesota where he grew up. Baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Harry graduated from Austin High School in 1965 and attended the University of Minnesota and Minnesota State College at Mankato, graduating in 1969 with degrees in psychology and political science. Later that year Harry was hired by Hormel Foods Corporation in Research and Development. He married Judy Smith on Sept. 12, 1970 at St. Olaf Church. They had two children and were later divorced. Harry retired in 2009 after 40 years with Hormel Foods. A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the Eagles, he loved fishing, golfing, watching sports, cooking, reading, music and his dogs.

Survivors include his son, Joey (Rachel) Page of Eagan; daughter, Kimberlee (Daniel) Strickland of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; special friend, Vickie Severtson; six grandchildren, Ella, Sajon, Delilah, Coltrane, Logan and Lyric; sisters, Rochelle Jensen of Austin, Betty (Marvin) Hartwig of Owatonna, Janice Duncan of Austin, Patti Page of Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers and four sisters.

Ralph Fredrick Goergen, 90, of Adams, Minnesota, died Oct. 23, 2010.

Ralph Goergen was born May 8, 1920, to Joseph and Johanna (Koenigs) Goergen on the family farm. On June 10, 1944, Ralph married Kathryn Seidlinger at Queen of Angles Catholic Church in Austin, Minnesota. Ralph farmed the family farm until his retirement in 1987. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, bird watching, reading, morning coffee with friends, bowling, golfing, attending church and going to family events. Ralph was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg, Stacyville, Adams Co-op Elevator Board, Adams Rural Fire Board, Johnsburg Choir, Johnsburg Johnnies Baseball team, Knights of Columbus, Adams Farm Bureau, Adams Lions Club and also served as an Adams Township Officer.

Ralph is preceded in death by his daughter Jane, son William, daughter-in-law Barbara, parents and 10 siblings.

He is survived by his wife Kathryn Goergen, Austin, daughters: Mary (LuWayne) Kenyon, Austin; Lucy (Bob) Johnson, Austin; Rita (Doug) Groh, Austin; sons: Tom Goergen, Bloomington, Minnesota; Tony (Nadine) Goergen, Rochester; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Alice Johnson was born on February 6, 1911, in Freeborn County, Minnesota, the daughter of Tilford and Olena (Braaten) Johnson. She attend country school and worked for Reverend and Mrs. Rasmussen at Red Oak Grove before moving to Austin to work at the Geo. A. Hormel Co. Alice was married to Fred Dudycha in 1937. Mr. Dudycha died in 1949 and she was married to Albert Geffre in 1956 in Duluth, Minn. They made their home in Austin where she was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Alice has been a longtime resident of the Comforcare Good Samaritan Center in Austin.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Fred Dudycha and Albert Geffre, sisters, Harriet Ward and Nell Sconberg and brothers Lyle and Thomas Johnson.

She is survived by her son, The Reverend Lee (Leon) Dudycha, Savannah, Georgia; grandsons, Kirk Jason Dudycha and Kent Jeffery Dudycha, sister, Tonetta (Toni) Coddington, Austin; nephews, David and Gordon Sconberg and Steve Coddington, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

Gordon Curtis Unverzagt, 80, of Dexter, Minnesota, died at Grand Meadow Healthcare Center Sunday afternoon, Oct. 24, 2010.

He was born March 4, 1930, to William and Anna Marie (Hanson) Unverzagt in Sargeant, Minnesota. Gordon worked as a cream dumper at Dexter Dairy from 1949 until 1951 before entering the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in November of 1953.

He married Sandra Wilmot on May 25, 1957, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Elkton. Gordon worked at the elevator and various other agriculture related businesses in the area. A volunteer firefighter in Dexter, he liked to be outside working and doing repairs, including lawn mower repair. He loved his wife, his children, grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra of Dexter; four children, Curt (Lori) Unverzagt of Brownsdale, Cory (Shelly) Unverzagt of Rochester, Craig Unverzagt of Dexter, Chris (Tammie) Unverzagt of Byron; five grandchildren: Kristi (Burt), Matthew (Sara), Andrea, Eric and Alex Foote; one great-granddaughter, Addison; brother, Robert (Vivian) Unverzagt of Austin; sister, Darlene (Otis) Mullenix of Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Eldon, Herbert, Roland, Roger and Paul.

Douglas Marvin Thompson, 83

Douglas Marvin Thompson, age 83, of Austin, died at Valley View Assisted Living in Owatonna, Minnesota, early Friday morning, October 22, 2010.

He was born on March 21, 1927, to Martin and Hilma (Luthe) Thompson, in Austin, Minnesota.

He grew up in Lansing and graduated from Austin High School in 1945. Douglas served in the 313th Engineer Combat Battalion in Cividale, Italy, from June 15, 1945 until October 23, 1945. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army he returned to work for Hormels where he worked for over 40 years

He married Verla May Larson on June 11, 1950, in Adams, Minnesota. They made their home in Lansing. Verla passed away in 2009. A member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brownsdale where he was active in leadership and community outreach. Douglas enjoyed serving others, spending time with his family and traveling around the world.

Survivors include two sons, Gary (Donna) Thompson of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; Steven (Cheryl) Thompson of Owatonna; one daughter, Trudy (Timothy) Hanson of Loganville, Georgia; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Virgil Stone of Austin, Myrtle Larson of Adams, Curtis and Daisy Larson, Ardis Herr, Loris and Dorothy Larson, all of Austin.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verla; his parents, Martin and Hilma Thompson, and by a sister, Viola Stone.

Raey Moore Hastings, Jr., 49, died February 9 at St. Olaf Hospital. He was born on July 24, 1923 in LeRoy, Minnesota, the son of Raey and Doris Hastings. He lived in Austin most of his life.

Mr. Hastings was married to Edith Golly on June 12, 1948 in Austin. He served his country during World War II, entering the service on May 18, 1943, he was discharged on December 24, 1945. He served in the Pacific in the 98th Mechanized Motor Bn.

Funeral services were held February 12, at 3 p.m. at Worlein Funeral Home, Rev. Joe Matt officiating. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Johnson, Arnold Earl, Donald Ashton, Jom Hastings, Ronald and Roland Hanson.

Surviving are his wife, Edith C.; one son, Raey M. Hastings III, Austin; his mother, Doris B. Hastings, Austin; three brothers: Bert, Bruce and Mark, Austin; two sisters, Mrs. Donald Ziemer, (Maxine), Fremont, Nebraska, and Mrs. Betty Folk, Pierre, S.C.; and Nieces and Nephews.

Edith Christine Hastings, age 84, of Austin, died on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at her home. She was born August 20, 1922 to John and Selma (Himle) Golly, in Benedict, North Dakota.

She married Raey Hastings II on June 12, 1948 in Austin, where they made their home, and Edith worked for Hormel Foods. She was a member of Crane Chapel and later St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She enjoyed fishing, reading and traveling. The Eastern United States and Oregon were included in her visits.

Survivors include a son, Raey "Chip" Hastings III of Austin, Minnesota; three grandchildren: Kristina Hastings, Raey Hastings IV and Amanda (Jason) Wencl, all of Austin; two great-grandchildren, Raey Hastings V and Sydney Hastings; brother-in-law, Mark "Skip" (Jean) Hastings, Austin; a sister-in-law, Mae GOlly, Omaha, Nebraska; nieces and nephews, and special friends.

George M. Ransom, 98

George died at the age of 98 on August 24, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, Iowa.

George was born on February 14, 1908 at Ionia, Iowa. He was one of five children born to Oscar and Lydia (Wedemeyer) Ransom. George attended school in Ionia and moved with his family to a farm near Rose Creek, Minnesota, when he was a young man.

On November 22, 1933 he married Ruby Klusmeier at the parsonage in Lyle, Minnesota. To this union four children were born: Joyce Golberg, Ramona (Carlton) Reuter, Donald (Judy) Ransom, and Jerry (Roberta) Ransom.

George and Ruby farmed in the Lyle-Rose Creek, Minnesota area for over fifty years. During this time he also hauled milk for the Lyle Creamery. The moved to Lyle in 1957. . .

Adeline T. Orness, age 94, and formerly of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 25, 2006 in Westlake, Ohio.

Adeline was the wife of the late Clarence Orness, dear mother of Marilyn (Hugh) Goldie, and grandmother of Hugh Jr., Gregg and Allison.

Funeral services will be at Our Saviors Rocky River Lutheran Church on Tuesday, August 29, 2006. Interment will be at Lakewood Park Cemetery, Rocky River, Ohio.

The family suggests memorials to Our Saviors Rocky River Lutheran Church, 2030 Hilliard Blvd., Rocky River, Ohio, 44116.

Wilma Louise Broecher, 88, of Austin, Minnesota, died on October 26, 2010 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

Wilma was born on October 4, 1922 in Brayton, Iowa to William and Esta (Smith) Dutler. She attended and graduated from Mankato High School.

On September 11, 1948, Wilma married LeRoy Broecher. The couple lived in Mankato, St. Peter, and Winona before settling down in Austin where they raised their two children, Barbara Jo and Bradley Jon. Wilma worked at JC Penney and Red Owl Country Store. Throughout their 52 years of marriage, Wilma and LeRoy enjoyed building and remodeling homes, their family, vacations, and spending time with their grandchildren.

LeRoy passed away in May of 2000. After his passing, Wilma enjoyed lunch dates with her grandchildren and her good friend, Norma Holton at Kenny’s Oak Grill. She also enjoyed trying her luck at the casino and on scratch-off lottery tickets, solving crossword puzzles, reading books, and going to Adams for the chicken fry.

Wilma lived 88 wonderful years with her family and friends. In the last five months, she was blessed with the birth of two great granddaughters, Brekyn Louise Tieskoetter and Kaydence Jo Schaefer.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Gregg Erstad; her son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Sherry Broecher; three grandchildren: Evan (Shane) Tieskoetter; Kylene (Bryan) Schaefer; Garrett Erstad (special friend, Kelly Foster); two great-granddaughters; sisters: Trudy Dowd, Rockford, Illinois; Judith (Al) Grundmeier, Katy, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Broecher; brothers: Gerald Dutler and (infant) Edward and parents, William and Esta Dutler.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, 2010 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The casket bearers will be Evan and Shane Tieskoetter, Kylene and Bryan Schaefer, Garrett Erstad and Kelly Foster.

Arnold Raymond “Ray” Heimsness, 91, of Austin, Minnesota, died at Austin Medical Center Monday afternoon, on October 25, 2010.

He was born July 10, 1919 to Julius and Clara (Hellickson) Heimsness in Ostrander, Minnesota. Ray’s family spent the early years in the Spring Valley-Ostrander area where Ray attended country school before moving to Austin. In 1936 he married Helen Chase in Iowa. They had two sons and were later divorced. Ray joined the Navy on May 9, 1944.

He served the entire time on the USS North Carolina in the South Pacific during World War II. A Machinist Mate in the Navy, he made Third Class before his honorable discharge on January 29, 1946.

Returning to Austin, Ray resumed his profession as a brick layer and married Delores Wilson on June 4, 1947. They opened Heimsness Brothers Masonry with his brother, Virgil and was later joined by his sons: Raymond, Julian and Terry in Heimsness Construction. A member of the Bricklayers’ Union, Ray built many homes and did the masonry work for churches and schools including the Terp Ballroom, Grace Lutheran Church, St. Edward’s Catholic Church and Trimble’s Honda. Ray retired in the 1980’s.

A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the Moose, Eagles, VFW and American Legion, he also liked gardening, trimming trees, cutting wood and watching the Twins and the Vikings.

He is survived by his wife, Delores of Austin; three sons: Raymond (Cecelia) Heimsness of Taylorville, Illinois; Julian (Barbara) Heimsness of Huntsville, Alabama; Terry (Mary Ann) Heimsness of Austin; two daughters: Vickie Mollberg of Baudette; Susan (Robert) Petersen of Austin; and many grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen; two brothers: Virgil and Lloyal; five sisters: Mae Baarsch, Ethel Cafourek, Clarice Perkins, Esther McCourt and Hazel Greenman; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Visitation is from 5-8:00 p.m., Friday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216. Memorials are preferred to St. Olaf Lutheran Church, any Veteran’s organization or Red Cross. Kenneth Luverne Apold, 96, of Austin, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 at the Austin Medical Center.

Ken was born April 11, 1914 in Austin to John and Christina Apold. He grew up in Austin. On Nov. 24, 1934 he married Melvina Blowers in Austin. She preceded him in death on July 6, 1983.

Ken had a long working career with the Hormel Company. He enjoyed wood-working and being with his family and friends. Ken was a member of St. Augustine Church and the Eagles Club.

He is survived by his daughter, Deanna Arndt, Austin; sons: Jim (Carole) Apold, Austin; Bill (Polly) Apold, Austin; daughter-in-law, Sue Apold, Austin; special friend, June Kramer; 10 grandchildren: Todd (Carrie) Arndt; Brenda (Chris) Engen; Edie (Don) Stier; Deidre (Jeff) Slowinski; Heidi Krivanek; Brad (Karen) Apold; Kenneth (Andra) Arndt; Brett (Robin) Apold; Chad Apold; Shannon Apold; 22 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his son, Dale Apold; son-in-law, Emil Arndt Jr.; parents, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, 2010 at Mayer Funeral Home with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday and also one hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Monday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Margaret L. “Lucille” Brecht, 83, of Austin, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Lucille was born July 20, 1927 in Tracy, to Louis and Margaret (O’Hearn) Brecht. She earned her B.S. and M.S. in Education from Mankato State University. Lucille went on the teach Elementary Education in Morgan, Redwood Falls, Pipestone, Northfield and Austin. She was empolyed by the Austin School District for 32 years. She was a member of the N.E.A., AAREA, St. Augustine Catholic Church and WCCW.

Lucille enjoyed traveling and collecting paper weights. She volunteered at the Philomathian Religious Book and Gift Store and Sacred Heart Auxiliary.

She is survived by nieces and nephews: Claire (Cecilia) Carlson, Fredericksburg, VA; Lucy Carlson, Lake Mills, IA; Ann Marie (Orlo) Bjerk, Mesa, AZ; Don (Ann Marie) Carlson, Toledo, OH; Thomas (Suzanne) Brecht, Cleveland, AL; and great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sister; nieces and nephews.
