Stephanie (Cumber) Ellingson 1983-2010
Stephanie Ellingson, 27, of Austin, Minnesota, was killed near Circle,
Montana in a tragic automobile accident, Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010.
She was born on July 29, 1983 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of Steven
and Lisa Cumber.
After attending Austin High School, she graduated magna cum laude from
St. Martin’s University in Tacoma, Washington with a B.A. in Psychology.
Currently, she was pursuing a master’s program in Social Work.
In looking at Steph’s life, we are overcome with the love she had for
her daughter, Olivia. Steph loved her family, she loved the outdoors, and
she had a zest for life that could not be contained. We, all of her family
and many friends, will miss her dearly and cherish the memories of our time
together.
Stephanie is survived by her parents; daughter, Olivia Ann, age 7;
Olivia’s father, Travis Ellingson (currently stationed in the Navy) in
Seattle, Washington; a half-sister, Sarah Cumber; and a half-brother,
Matthew Cumber. She is also survived by her maternal grandmother, Mary
J. Lenoch; her paternal grandparents: Dorothy (Denny) Cumber and David
(Kay) Cumber; six aunts, five uncles, and 27 cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Floyd Lenoch; her
aunt, Mary Ellen Rubel and a cousin, Abby Lenoch.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010
at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating. There
will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Thursday, Sept. 16 at Mayer Funeral Home
where friends may call from 4-7 p.m. and also one hour before the service
at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Stephanie’s daughter,
Olivia Ellingson c/o 21 Sarrington Court, Stafford, VA, 22554.

Alexandra (Kolokithas) Kokalaris 1915-2010
Alexandra Kolokithas Kokalaris, 94, of Rochester, Minnesota, and formerly
of Austin, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1915 to Antonia and Ari Kolokithas, Alexandra
grew up in Patras, Greece. She returned to the United States in 1946 and
moved to Austin upon marrying John Kokalaris.
Alexandra was known for her love of America, her pride on the Helenic
(Greek) Heritage, her hospitality, her strong family values and her
Mediterranean cooking. She was notably generous to worthy causes.
Alexandra was very instrumental in raising her 11 siblings under the
most adverse conditions – upon her father’s death during the Nazi
occupation. While living in America, she helped support her family in Greece
and sponsored members of her family to come to America. Alexandra was a
charter member of the Holy Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church of Rochester,
Daughter of Penelope, and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Alexandra is survived in the United States by her brother Nick (Ann)
Kolokithas Kolas; nieces and nephews: Ari (Penny) Kolas, Peter Kolas, Sam
(Gina) Kolas, Philip Kolas, Antonia Kolas, Dawn Saks, Deno (Alicja) Lecakis,
Tony (Nereida) Lecakis, Michael (Mando) Katselis, Nina (John) Cokinos, Nia
(Marv) Kolokithas, Marina Kolokithas, Louis Kopsidas; grand nephew: Nick
Kolokithas Kolas; grand nieces: Deanna, Theoni, and Alexandra Kolas; and
cousin, Peter Economou.
She is also survived by her brother Christo (Georgia) Kolokithas and
her sister Vasso Kolokithas Pitouras both of Patras, Greece and many nephews
and grand nephews and nieces who live in Greece including and her nephew
Aristo Kolokithas of Patras, Greece who will be attending the funeral.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, three sisters
and five brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010,
at the Holy Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church, Rochester with Father Mark
Munoz officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.
Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Tuesday from 3-6 p.m..
Memorials are preferred to the Holy Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church

Mary Jo (Nielsen) Griese 1940-2010
Mary Jo (Nielsen) Griese, 69, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died at
her home on Friday, September 3, 2010.
Mary Jo was born on November 12, 1940 in Austin to Leonard and Doris (Goebel)
Nielsen. She attended Shaw grade school and graduated from Austin High School.
She spent almost all of her life living in Austin. Mary Jo enjoyed her
children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family and friends.
She loved to sew, crochet, cook, bake and do crafts. She was also a poet,
with help from her sister, Carol. She enjoyed doing many things with her
children.
On Nov. 26, 1958, Mary Jo married her high school sweetheart, Harlan
Griese. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2008.
Mary Jo is survived by her husband, Harlan (Butch) Griese, Austin;
children: Terrance Griese, St. Paul, Lila (Michael) Mallin, St. Michael,
and Scott Griese, Lansing; seven grandchildren: Jason (Becky)Griese, St.
Paul, Hanna (Alex) Mallin, St. Michael, (Megan) Matthew Foley, Pennsylvania
and Jeremy Ford, Pennsylvania; great grandchildren: Miley Jo and Brian
Goodrich, St. Paul; nieces, nephews and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Leonard and Doris
Nielsen; daughter, Angela Jo (Griese) Foley; sisters Donna Nielsen Woehr,
Leola Nielsen Koster, and Carol Nielsen Stickney. She also was preceded in
death by her grandparents, whom she loved dearly and her four-legged friend,
Tiffy.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at
Lansing United Methodist Church with the Reverend Leland Bissinger and the
Reverend Beth Perez officiating. Interment will be at Lansing Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and
at the church on Wednesday for one hour before the service.

Yoshiko (Yoshi/Nori) Anderson 1933-2010
Yoshiko (Yoshi/Nori) Anderson, 77, went to meet the Lord on August 28,
2010, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
She was born on May, 28, 1933, in Japan to Kame and Hatsu. She was the
youngest of six; Jiro, Akiyoshi. She was married to Donald R. Anderson in
1953, in Japan. They moved to St. Paul and later settled in Austin. She was
a wife and home-maker until her husband’s death in 1969. She managed KFC and
was most recently employed at the Donut Connection.
She is survived by her children: Greg (Peggy) Anderson of Bloomington,
Donna (Paul) Iser of Edmond, Okla., Holly (Angelo) Georgou of Newton, Iowa,
and Rozann Nelson of Blooming Prairie; and her ten grandchildren; Dustin and
Jade Anderson; Conridge, Courtney and Cassi Iser; Nicholas and William
Georgou; and Amber, Ashley and Jenna Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald and son-in-law Rodney
Nelson.
The family plans a private graveside service. Condolences and fond

Pamela Marie (Schammel) Sheely
Pamela Marie (Schammel) Sheely, 53, died peacefully at home the evening
of Saturday, September 4, 2010, surrounded by her family, following a
lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born on November 24, 1956 to Arthur and Joanne Schammel in Austin.
She graduated from Austin High School in 1975 and attended Austin Vocational
and Technical college. She first worked at the Austin Country Club, then at
Sterling State Bank, before finally working 32 years with Mower County Human
Services, while also helping to run the family farm. She was married to Doug
Sheely on June 23, 1979 at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in
Brownsdale. She enjoyed outdoor activities like gardening, snowmobiling,
taking walks, and fishing. As a young girl she also loved to raise horses
and dogs for show. Most of all she loved following the school and
extracurricular activities of her two children and enjoyed the companionship
of the family dog, Mandy.
She is survived by her husband, Doug; her two children, Mark and Jennifer;
her father, Arthur; her sister, Nancy (Jerry) VanBuskirk, and their children,
Andrea (Ben) Alexander, Jessica (Troy) Hanson, and Michael VanBuskirk
(special friend, Brooke Hendrickson); her father-in-law, Luverne Sheely;
her brother-in-law, Brad (Bridget) Sheely; her sister-in-law, JoAnn Workman;
two nephews: Joe and Ben Sheely; two great nieces: Aviana and Brielle
Alexander ; great-nephew, Landon Hanson; and Richard Stevens
She is preceded in death by her mother, Joanne Schammel; and her
mother-in-law, Catherine Sheely.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8,
2010 at Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Brownsdale with Father Gregory
Parrott officiating. There will be a 7p.m. wake service on Tuesday at Mayer
Funeral Home where friends may call from 4:30-7:30 p.m. and also one hour
before the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in St.
Peter’s Cemetery in Rose Creek.

Dale W. Backer 1928-2010
Funeral mass for Dale Backer, 81, will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept.
9, 2010, at St Patricks Catholic Church in LeRoy with Father Steve Peterson
officiating. Burial will take place in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will
be held from 10 a.m. till time of service at the church.
Dale W. Backer, age 81, of Brownsdale and formerly of LeRoy died Sunday
Sept. 5, 2010, at Austin Medical Center in Austin.
He was born Nov. 14, 1928, in Ashton, Iowa, to William Backer and
Henrietta (Kappes) Backer. He attended and graduated from Ashton High
School and graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Dale lived with
his parents for the majority of his life. He was an avid gardener and worked
for Libby’s in Rochester for many years.
He is survived by three brothers, Elmer (Deloris) Backer of St. Paul
Park, Clarence Backer of Sioux City, Iowa, and Leon Backer of LaMirada,
Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gene and
Gerald and a sister Elvira.

Mildred Anna Vick 1919-2010
Mildred Anna Vick, 90, of Austin passed away on Monday, September 6,
2010 at Comforcare Good Samaritan Society in Austin.
Mildred was born on December 16, 1919 in Bemidji, to Joseph and Clara
(Peterson) Johnson. She grew up on a farm near Guthrie, where she attended
country school and graduated from Bemidji High School. Mildred moved to
Minneapolis and worked at Glen Lake TB Sanitarium in Eden Prairie. She met
and married Nels G. Vick on May 1, 1945 in Duluth. Mildred also worked at
a TB Sanitarium while in Houston, Texas. They lived in Houston, where Nels
was stationed and moved to Austin, after World War II was over. Mildred was
a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austin.
Mildred enjoyed raising her family, attending big band dances at the Terp
Ballroom in Austin and playing various card games. She also enjoyed traveling
with her family to her home in Guthrie and to Nels’ home area in Houston and
Fillmore Counties in southeast Minnesota. In her later years, Mildred enjoyed
quilting with the Tuesday sewing group at Grace Lutheran Church and was a
member of the Golden Age Card Club.
Survivors include three daughters: Carol Jean Kincs (Charlie) Miller,
Goodlettsville, Tennessee; Marsha (Gary) Pike, Apopka, Florida; Cynthia
(Loren) Allas, Austin; one son, Gregory (Debra) Vick, Albert Lea; ten
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren;
four sisters-in-law.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nels; grandson, Aaron
Matthew Pike; granddaughter, Heather Nicole Vick; two sisters, and five
brothers.
Funeral services will be held 11a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010 at
Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Jeff Forbes officiating, assisted by
Intern Rob Zahn and with messages from guests, Chaplain Teresa Turnbull
of Good Samaritan Society-Comforcare, Austin, and Pastor Kent Otterson of
Good Samaritan Society-Comforcare, Albert Lea. Friends may call from 4-7
p.m. on Wednesday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour prior to services
at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery.

George S. Clark 1927-2010
George Samuel Clark, age 83 of Austin, Minnesota, died of lung cancer on
Thursday, September 9, 2010 at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea,
Minnesota.
George was born on February 10, 1927 in Austin, to Roy and Dora (Buringa)
Clark. After graduating from Austin High School, he received his Associate
of Arts Degree. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After
the war, George worked at the George A. Hormel Company until his retirement.
George was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the UFCW, the Moose and
the Eagles.
George enjoyed fishing and camping in northern Minnesota with his family.
Spending time gardening and landscaping his acreage was very rewarding to
George.
George is survived by his wife: Marjorie Clark, Austin, Minn.; children:
Deborah Coleman, Drums, Pa.; Larry Clark (Jane), Austin, Minn.; Mark Clark,
Austin, Minn.; and Tamela Clark, Faribault, Minn.; grandchildren: Katy Clark,
Austin, Minn.; Adrienne Clark, Albert Lea, Minn.; Jason Clark, Minneapolis,
Minn.; Jenny Coleman, PA; Jeff Coleman, PA; and Tom Coleman, Pa.; and eight
great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death
by his parents and one brother, Samuel Clark.
The family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral Services will be held at a later date.

John B. Draayer 1924-2010
John B. Draayer, 86, of Austin, died Tuesday, September 7, at St. Mary’s
Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
John was born March 26, 1924 in Freeborn County in Hollandale, the son
of Bert and Gertrude Draayer. John was the oldest of eight children. He was
married to Arlene Cole on May 26, 1944. They had four children; she died on
March 17th 1985. John loved the farm and garden; he also worked at Hormel
Foods Corporation for 35 years. John married Doris Sistek in September of
1986. He was a member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church.
John was preceded in death by his first wife Arlene, grandson Travis and
three brothers, Jim, Hein and Robert.
He is survived by wife Doris Sistek Draayer, Austin; sons and
daughters-in-law, Rodney and Carolyn Draayer, Lee Summit, Mo., Kent and Kay
Draayer, Austin; daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Brian Erickson,
Alexandria, Bev and Dave Nordby, Austin; step children, Nancy and Allan
Wesely, Austin, Dan Sistek and friend Marion, Austin; 16 Grandchildren,

Doug Craft1952-2010
Doug Craft, 58, of Grand Meadow, Mower county, Minnesota, died on
September 9, 2010, at his home following a short battle with cancer.
He was born March 19, 1952, in Iowa to Urban and Betty (Thorsen) Craft.
On July 14, 1978, he was united in marriage to Maureen Baunce, and together
they raised two sons: Zachary and Matthew. Doug worked as a diesel mechanic
for Ziegler Cat in Bloomington; he enjoyed 4-wheeling, camping, restoring
old trucks and playing with his 3 grandsons.
Doug is survived by his wife Maureen Craft of Grand Meadow; sons, Zachary
(Tiffany) Craft of Byron and Matthew (Adrienne) Craft of Stewartville; three
grandsons, Benjamin, Derek and Cohen; and two sisters, Kathy Craft of
Rochester and Barb Craft of Iowa. He is also survived by brothers, Terry
(Mary) Craft and Tim (Teresa) Craft both of Rochester; and Mark. His parents,
and one brother Urban Duane, preceded him in death.
Friends and family may gather for a time of remembrance for Douglas M.
Craft from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday September 11, 2010, at the Hindt Funeral

Mary Jane (Bell) Bates 1944-2010
Mary Jane Bates, 66, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at her home after
a two year battle with cancer.
Mary was born May 31, 1944 to Donald and Jeanette (Ingvalson) Bell. She
was baptized and confirmed at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church. She later
joined St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Mary graduated from Austin High School
in 1962 and married Terry Bates in 1964; in this marriage they had two
children. They later divorced.
Through the years, Mary worked at Engen Egg Farm, Weyerhaeuser Paper
Company, Scotsman Ice Machines, Mower County Jail and Holiday Inn. She
enjoyed bowling, camping, traveling and spending time with her family and
friends. For the past 13 years Mary spent much of her time with her close
friend, Snooley Johnson. She was also a member of the MMRC Motorcycle Club
and loved to ride her Honda.
Mary is survived by her children, Trent and Tonia (fiance Darren
Frohwein); granddaughter, Samantha Lebarron; brothers, William (Janice) and
Michael (Cheryl) Bell; sister, Suzanne (Robert) Schmidt; close friend
Snooley Johnson; and nieces, nephews and many cousins.
Memorial services will be held Monday Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. at St. Olaf
Lutheran Church in Austin. Family and friends will meet for a one-hour
visitation before and after the funeral.

Gordon Howard Peterson 1924-2010
Gordon Howard Peterson, age 86, of Grand Meadow, Mower county, Minnesota,
died of natural causes on Sunday, September 12, 2010 while helping on the
farm.
Gordon Howard Peterson was born January 15, 1924 in Frankford Township,
Mower county, to Henry C. and Dora (Lokke) Peterson. He attended school in
Grand Meadow and graduated iN 1942. On May 8, 1946 he was united in marriage
to Winifred Goodsell in Grand Meadow and together they had three children;
Suzanne, Nancy and Bruce. After his marriage Gordon entered the United
States Army and served in occupied Japan. After his discharge he returned
to the Grand Meadow area and went to work for Libby, McNeil and Libby while
he also farmed. Gordon started working at IBM when they came to Rochester
and continued working there until the early 80’s. He continued farming the
entire time and continued helping on the farm up until his death on Sunday.
Gordon enjoyed mowing lawn, growing flowers, singing and listening to music,
he liked to travel, go camping and fishing (but hated cleaning them) and he
truly enjoyed going to the many church dinners in the area.
He is survived by his daughter Nancy (Mrs. James) Anderson of Rochester, Minnesota, son, Bruce (Zainabu) Peterson of Racine, Minn., a son-in-law Martin Hedstrom of Zumbro Falls, Minn., 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 1 sister Hazel Blanchard of Grand Meadow. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1994, his daughter Suzanne and 1 brother Conrad.
Funeral service for Gordon H. Peterson will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday September 15, 2010 at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church with the Rev Ann Siverling officiating.
Burial will take place in the Grand Meadow Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5- 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow and 1hour prior to the service at the church.

Arthur Arnold Moen 1927-2010
AUSTIN, MINNESOTA - Arthur Arnold Moen, 82 of Austin, died Friday,
September 10, 2010 at his home.
He was born on October 21, 1927 to Albert and Ella (Madson) Moen in Dodge
County, Minnesota. After graduation from Blooming Prairie High School,
Arthur joined the Navy on October 24, 1945 in St. Paul. He advanced to
Seaman First Class. After his honorable discharge on July 28, 1946 in
California, he returned to live and work the family farm near Blooming
Prairie. He worked at Hormel Foods for over thirty years. He married Sylvia
(Spartz) Shultz on May 29, 1999 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield. They
made their home in Austin. A member of American Legion and Westminster
Presbyterian Church, Arthur also enjoyed watching the Twins and Vikings
as well as westerns.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia of Austin; two daughters, Patricia
Lujan of Prior Lake and Nancy Knutson of Austin; stepchildren, Michael
(Tori Mroz) Shultz of Kansas City, Kansas and DeAnna Dahlgren (David Sutton)
of Fort Collins, Colorado; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife,
Mary Ann; three brothers: Melvin, Benjamin and Clarence; six sisters: Ovina,
Clara, Mathilda, Emma, Evelyn and Irene.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 18, 2010
at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Andrew Lindahl
officiating, soloist, Audrey Carroll and organist, Betty Lou Larson.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m., Friday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin.
Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion
Post 91.

Ivis Lucille (nee Crump) Daley 1913-2010
Ivis Lucille Crump Daley, 96, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Saturday,
September 11, 2010 at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center in Austin.
Ivis was born on November 17, 1913 in Northfield to Geo. and Maude Crump.
She moved to Austin as a child and graduated from Austin High School in
1933. Ivis married James T. Daley on Aug. 22, 1936 and they resided in
Austin their entire life.
Ivis retired from the Hormel Employees Credit Union after working there
for several years. She resided in her home in southwest Austin until her
death.
She was extremely talented with her embroidering and crocheting. Ivis
and Jim loved spending time at their cabin in Faribault on Lake Mazaska and
also enjoyed spending time with their daughters and family.
Ivis is survived by her daughters: Barbara Baldwin, Victorville, CA;
JoAnn (Thomas) Haggart, Belleville, MI; Mary Jane (John) Kerling, Lonsdale,
MN; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim in 1986.

at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with the Reverend Patricia M. Toschak
officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at

Ethel Lavonne (nee Barber)(Gilles) Hoffman 1929-2010
Ethel Lavonne Hoffman, 81, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died at her
home Tuesday, September 14, 2010.
She was born on August 18, 1929 to Vern and Ester Mae (Booen) Barber in
Shell Rock Township, Freeborn County. She married Leonard Giles and later
divorced. On Sept. 12, 1953 she married Leslie J. Hoffman in Austin. A
member and active volunteer of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, Hannah
Circle, Blooming Prairie Servicemen’s Club and American Legion Auxiliary
(past president) she spent most of her life in the Austin/Blooming Prairie
area.
Survivors include children: Marcia (Darrel) Peterson of Rapid City, SD;
Mark (Ginger) Hoffman of Pequot Lakes; Mike (Julie) Hoffman of Blooming
Prairie; grandchildren: Steven (Gretchen) Lundeen of Cleveland, GA.; Marin
Lundeen of Rapid City, SD; Seth Lundeen of Wilmore, KY; John Mark (Autumn)
Lundeen of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren: Zachary (Stacie) Hoffman of
Yakoska, Japan; Ethan Hoffman of Fort Hood, Texas; Carley Hoffman of Pequot
Lakes; Kyle Hoffman of Pequot Lakes; five great-grandchildren: Justin Burns;
Hannah, Asa, and Eillie Lundeen; Matthew Beisheim; one great-great-grandchild,

Donald Benjamin Younger 1936-2010
Donald Benjamin Younger, 73, formerly of Brownsdale, Mower county,
Minnesota, died at Renville Hospital in Olivia Tuesday evening, September
14, 2010.
He was born on December 19, 1936 to Lewis I. and Edith (Braun) Younger
in Winona, Minnesota. After graduation from Winona High School, Donald
entered the United States Army in Mar. 1960. Serving as a Mess Sergeant,
he earned the Expert Rifle Medal. After an honorable discharge in October
1965 with a rank of PVT E2, he made his home in Brownsdale, selling Watkins
and Stanley Home Products. A lifetime member of the Winona County Historical
Society, he also belonged to the Antique Auto Club of America and Cadillac
LaSalle Club. For the past two years, Donald resided at Golden Living Center
in Franklin.
Survivors include, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Lewis Younger and a
sister, Julie.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010 at
Worlein Funeral Home in Austin with military honors by American Legion
Post 91. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Interment is at
Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona.

Ellwood Merle Pettitt 1937-2002
Birth: Sep. 22, 1937
Death: Jul. 21, 2002
A memorial service for Ellwood Merle Pettitt, age 64, of Riceville will
be held at the Riceville United Methodist Church in Riceville on Sunday,
August 4, 2002 at 2 p.m. The Reverend Michael Carey will officiate.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery following the memorial service
where military honors will be performed by the American Legion, Roy Gue
Post #244. Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville
on Thursday, July 25, during the hours of 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Pettitt was born on Sept. 22, 1937 in Lyle, Minnesota to Oliver George
and Ila Marie Anderson Pettitt. Ellwood moved to Riceville in 1950 with his
parents, after having resided in Bolan, Iowa near St. Ansgar. He attended
local schools and graduated from Riceville high school in 1956. In 1957
Ellwood joined the United States Army and served for two years in Germany
as a cook.
In August of 1961, Ellwood opened Pettitt's Pantry. In March of 1967
he moved to the present location of Pettitt's Cafe. He retired in April of
this year. Ellwood served his community faithfully, having received the Boy
Scout Award of Merit, several Jaycee's awards, the Governor's Volunteers
Award and organized many fund raising events.
Ellwood was a member of the Riceville Methodist Church, having served as
church treasurer and Sunday School superintendent for many years.
Pettitt was preceded in death by his mother in 1978 and his father in
1998.
Ellwood's survivors include a sister Donna Dawson and her husband Donald
of Paullina, IA and a special friend Judy Waddell of Riceville, three aunts,
Audrey Hack of California, Eleanor Olson of Osage, IA and Lila Anderson of
Cedar Falls, Iowa. Also surviving are many relatives and friends.

Cecil Vernon Dahlgren 1921-2010
Cecil Vernon Dahlgren, 89, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, Sept.
15, 2010 at Sacred Heart Care Center.
Cecil was born on February 28, 1921 in Walsh County, near Adams, North
Dakota, to William and Clara (Norquist) Dahlgren. He attended High School
in Fairdale and went on the State School of Science. Vern served in the
United States Army Air Force for three years. On May 9, 1950 he was united
in marriage to Beverly Elaine Deist in Fergus Falls. He worked as an auto
body repairman at the Ford dealership for 30 years, was a member of the
American Legion and UAW.
Vern restored many cars for the family and built a motorhome from a
van, he also built a garage. He loved traveling, Bluegrass music, fairs,
parades and sports-including going to an All Star game. He was a Jack Of
All Trades.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Dahlgren, Austin; children: Juli
(Don) Hobson, Taylors Falls; Donald Dahlgren, Stockholm, Sweden; Robert
Dahlgren, San Jose, CA; five grandchildren: Maria, Brittany, Hanna, Daniel,
Camille.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Clara Dahlgren;
sister, Helen Gunhus; son, David Jens Dahlgren; grandson, Preston James
Hobson.
A gathering to remember the life of Cecil Vernon Dahlgren will be held
11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 at Mayer Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn
Monson officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the

LEROY, MINNESOTA -- Simon E. Boe, 80, a retired farmer, died Sunday at St.
Olaf Hospital, Austin.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Martz Funeral
Home in LeRoy and at 2 p.m. at the Marshall Lutheran Church, north of
Adams. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife; six sons: Ervin and Harlan, rural LeRoy, James,
Taopi, Vernon and Richard, Banner, Wyoming, and Donald, Austin; six
daughters: Mrs. John Corcoran, Austin, Mrs.
Orville Wignes, Long Beach, California, Mrs. Everett Palmer and Mrs.
Chester Hall, Grand Meadow, Mrs. Willis Erie, Dexter, and Mrs. Roy
Harrington, Taopi; 54 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters,

Clarence William Krull 1922-2010
Clarence “Punk” Krull died on Thursday, September 16, 2010, from
complications of cancer following a short illness, at the Adams Healthcare
Center in Adams, Mower county, Minnesota.
Clarence William Krull was born July 29, 1922, in Guckeen, Fairbault
County, Minnesota, to John and Emma (Monson) Krull. He grew up on the
family farm, attended rural schools and elementary school in Sewartville.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 serving overseas in the Pacific as a
gunner’s mate during World War II.
He was married, prior to going overseas, on Oct. 1, 1944 in Stewartville
to Evelyn S. Baker. Follwing his discharge in 1946, the couple farmed in
the Dexter area before moving to rural Elkton where they farmed for over
40 years, raising their family and where Mr. Krull has continued to make
his home. Mrs. Krull died on May 4, 2001. Mr. Krull was also employed at
Hormel Foods for 30 years.
He was a life-long member of the Dexter United Methodist Church serving
on it’s building committee when the current church was built. He was a
member of the P-9 Labor Union in Austin, the Austin V.F.W. and the
Stewartville American Legion. Clarence was a well known musician in the
area who was given the nickname “Punk” as a young boy and who taught himself
to play guitar while in the Navy. He played and sang country music with many
other musicians in the area for many years. He also enjoyed hunting, raising
animals and time spent with family, especially his grandkids.
He is survived by two daughters: Bonnie Williams of Hayward, Calif.,
and Merry (Mark) Monnier of Grand Meadow; four sons: Gene (Linda) and
Jeremy, both of Elkton; Jack of Alexandria and Gayle (Cindy) of Gladbrook,
La.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, June Gordon of
Lanesboro, and a brother, Harold Krull of Blaine. He was preceded in death
by his a wife,Evelyn; a sister, Evelyn Marshall; three brothers: Kenneth,
Wilbur and Gordon and a grandson, Robert.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at the
United Methodist Church in Dexter with the Rev. Karen Ashton officiating.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at
Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville and one hour prior to the
service at the church on Monday

Genevieve E. Taylor ca.1913-2010
Genevieve E. Taylor, age 97, of Apple Valley, Minnesota, and formerly of
Austin, Minnesota, moved to her “eternal rest home” on September 16, 2010.
Genevieve took seriously the words of Jesus, who said: “I came to serve,
not to be served.” Genevieve taught Sunday school, helped mentor teenage
girls and always found time each day to pray for her family and friends.
She also served as a volunteer and part-time employee at Burr Oak Manor
Nursing Home in Austin for many years. Genevieve uplifted the spirits of
many Burr Oak residents with her smile and Christ-like love.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law; Ron and Mary Taylor,
Chanhassen; Jerry and Julie Taylor, Rosemount; grandchildren: Merri Wentler,
Rahn Taylor, Melissa Taylor, Alison Taylor, Andrew Taylor and Daniel Taylor;
great-grandchildren: Amber, Lindsay and Matt Mrozek and
great-great-grandchild Adrina Mrozek; brother, Norman Ekedal,
Mountain Home, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, in 1993.
A service to celebrate Genevieve’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on
Wednesday September 22, 2010 at the Grace Baptist Church, 100 Fourth
Ave. SE, with Pastor Gordon D. Larson officiating. Visitation will be
held at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Findell O'Donald Helgeson 1920-2010
Findell O’Donald Helgeson, age 90, of Austin, died at St. Mark’s Lutheran
Home in Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, on Thursday morning, September 16,
2010.
He was born June 28, 1920, to Carl and Ona (Fingerson) Helgeson in Preston.
After graduation from St. Charles High School, Findell attended Winona
Business College. He was hired by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization
Service on April 3, 1943, to work on the Canadian Border, Baudette,
Minnesota and many other points of entry.
He married Phyllis Tront on July 15, 1945, in Fort Frances, Ontario,
Canada. They also lived in Portal and Dunseith, N.D.; Baudette, International
Falls and St. Paul, Minn. Findell retired on June 28, 1982, and in 1991 they
moved to Austin.
He was active in Eastern Star serving as Worthy Patron for many years
and Moose Degree Team. A member of First Congregational, United Church of
Christ, he enjoyed gardening, reading, watching television and spending
time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Austin; two sons, Dean (Lynn)
Helgeson of Bemidji; Carlan (Jill) Helgeson of Spring Hill, Florida; one
daughter, Signe (Steven) Rizzi of Austin; eight grandchildren, Signe (Ray)
Damdar, Caleb, Rachel and Brittina Helgeson; Kyle (Cari), Katelyn, Steven
Rizzi and Kim (Jon) Stolski; five great grandchildren, Annika Damdar, Lila
Rizzi and Will, Lauren and Joe Stolski. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Ona and Carl Helgeson; one brother, Fourist Helgeson;
daughter-in-law, Mary Helgeson and grandsons, Alec, Matthew and Marcus
Helgeson.
Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010,
at First Congregational, UCC with the Rev. Elizabeth Endicott and Reverend

Raymond Lee Stehlik, Sr. 1951-2010
Raymond Lee Stehlik, Sr., 59, of Austin, Minnesota, died of bone cancer
on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at 11 p.m. at Veteran’s Administration
Hospital in Minneapolis, where he had been a patient for one week.
Raymond was born on June 24, 1951, in Rochester to Franklin and
Dorothy-Helen (Groby) Stehlik.
Raymond enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1969 and was primarily stationed in
California, and the Phillipines. He retired from the Navy in 1992. He had
resided in the Phillipines for 15 years prior to his retirement.
Raymond moved to Austin and worked at Cybex in Owatonna until he became
disabled through the VA.
He is survived by his three sons: Raymond Lee Stehlik, Jr., Robert Lee
Stehlik, and Reno Lee Stehlik, all of Austin; his siblings: James (Susan)
Stehlik of Owatonna; Gene (Karen) Stehlik of Maple View; Joy Minor of
Nevada; Richard (Deborah) Stehlik of Austin; Tommy (Lydia) Stehlik of
Nevada; RoseAnn (Lawrence) Schulz of South Dakota; and April Templeton
of Austin; his sister-n-law, Mischel (Joel) Stehlik of Chatfield; 38 nieces
and nephews as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews, not including
spouses and significent others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Pamela Stehlik; and
one brother, Joel Sr. Stehlik (Mischel).
A full honorary military burial will be held at Fort Snelling in
Minneapolis.

Mildred M. Bellrichard 1919-2010
Mildred M. Bellrichard, 90, of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday, September
19, 2010, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.
Mildred was born December 8, 1919, in Austin to Benjamin and Lottie (Kos)
Bednar. She attended Austin High School. On December 1, 1945, Mildred was
united in marriage to Robert Bellrichard in Austin. She was a homemaker.
Mildred was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Western
Bohemian Fraternal Association. She enjoyed spending time with her family
and friends. Mildred was a gardener and especially enjoyed growing her
African violets. She also enjoyed baking.
Survivors include three children, Diane (Dick) Suess, Northfield; Gregg
(Kathie) Bellrichard, San Antonio, Texas; Julie (Randy) Tapp, Austin; nine
grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ben (Arlene) Bednar,
Austin; Floyd Bednar, Austin; a sister, Helen Neus, Austin; many nieces and
nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1980; son, Thomas in
1993; brother, Donald in 1982; granddaughter, Sara Bellrichard in 1982.
Funeral services will be held 11a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at
Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Andrew Lindahl officiating.

Robert Henry Gerber 1923-2010
Robert Henry Gerber, 87, of Adams, Mower county, Minnesota, died
Saturday September 18, 2010 at the Adams Health Care Center.
Robert was born April 3, 1923 in Adams, Mower county, Minnesota, the son
of John and Martha (Blonigan) Gerber. He attended country school in rural
Adams. Robert was married to Margaret Anna Retterath at the Sacred Heart
Catholic Church on Nov. 24, 1942. They farmed in the Adams area. He was a
member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Gerald (Dorothy) Gerber,
Adams; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara (John) Garvey, Wayzata; Cindy
(John) Thomas, Lake City; daughter-in-law, Marlys Gerber, Adams; eight
grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law,
Arthur (Jurine) Gerber, Austin; Jerome (Darlene) Gerber, Adams; Lawrence
Gerber, Stewartville; Rosella Gerber, Austin; nieces and nephews.

Wilbur “Sam” Stevens1936-2010
Wilbur “Sam” Stevens, 74, formerly of Austin, Minnesota died at 4:58
p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010 in his home in Beloit, Wisconsin, after a brief
illness.
He was born July 2, 1936 in Pleasant Grove, Minnesota the son
of Mr. and Mrs. David and Neva (McAllister) Stevens. Sam graduated
from Austin High School and Minnesota Bible College. He married Judith
J. Kinsey in Beloit, WI on Oct. 17, 1959. He worked as a machinist for
Besly in South Beloit, IL retiring in 2002. He attended Roxbury Road
Church of Christ in Janesville, WI.
Survivors include son Christopher (Kristine) Stevens of Orfordville,
WI; daughter Jennifer (Joseph) Koeberl of Janesville, WI;
grandchildren: Tabatha, Michael, Scott, Delaney, Kyle, and Nathaniel;
great grandchildren: Aniyah, Winter; brothers Murwin Stevens and Edwin
(Sharon) Stevens all of Belvidere, IL; Walter (Sara) Stevens of
Kasson, Minnesota; sisters Mary Ellen Stevens and Betty (Larry) Schewe
all of Austin, Minnesota, and several nieces and nephews.

Gregory Arnold Staples 1947-2010
Gregory Arnold Staples, 63, of Adams died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010.
Gregory was born May 28, 1947 in St. Paul, MN to Arnold and Marcella
(DeRusha) Staples. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1965,
Winona State College in 1969, and received his Masters in Education
from Winona State University in 1986. Greg married Barbara Jean Quest
on Aug. 17, 1968 in Minneapolis, MN. In his spare time Greg loved
hunting, fishing, ice fishing, traveling across the country, and
attending his grandchildrens’ activities. Greg also was a volunteer
teacher for fifth graders at Lake Louise Science, and a former 4H and
Girl Scout helper. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic
Church, Adam’s Sportsmens’ Club, Duck’s Unlimited, and Pheasants
Forever, a firearms safety instructor, and a four time member of Who’s
Who Among American Teachers.
He is survived by wife, Barbara Staples, of Adams, MN; son Patrick
(Michele) Staples, of Adams, MN; daughter Amy (Jason) Hall, of
Farmington, MN; grandchildren: Kjerstin, Korin and Erik Hall, William
and Hunter Staples; mother Marcie Staples, of Pine City, MN;
father-in-law and mother-in-law Fred & Lois Quest, of Edina, MN; aunt,
uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Connie Quest, father
Arnold Staples, uncle Jack Foster, and maternal and paternal

Burnell E. Olson 1926-2010
Burnell E. Olson, 83, of Lansing, died Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at the
Austin Medical Center.
He was born on December 30, 1926 in Harmony, to Bennie and Anna (Storlie)
Olson. He graduated from Harmony High School in 1945. After high school, he
served the next two years in the United States Army.
Burnell married Dolores Mickelson on Aug. 4, 1951 at St. Olaf Lutheran
Church. He worked for the George A. Hormel Company for 37 years before
retiring in 1986.
Burnell was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He was an avid square
dancer and he enjoyed travelling, camping, card club and loved spending
time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores Olson, Lansing; children: Brian
Olson, Lansing; Susan (Michael) Myhre, Austin; Randy (Diana) Olson, Austin;
Tamara (Scott) Duffney, Andover; Michelle (Keith) VandeZande, Austin; ten
grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brothers: Arlyne Olson, Denison,
Texas; Donald Olson, Austin; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerome Olson and an
infant brother.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 at 1:30 p.m.
at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Reverend Ron Barnett officiating.
Music will be performed by Neal Erickson. Visitation will be on Friday
at the church for one hour before the service. Interment will be in Oakwood
Cemetery. Austin Post #91, American Legion in charge of military rites.
Clasen-Jordan Mortuary will be handling the arrangements.

Gloria Delone (Erickson) Opsahl 1927-2010
Gloria Delone Opsahl, 83, of Austin, died at her home Wednesday morning,
Sept. 22, 2010.
She was born September 12, 1927 to Olean and Ella (Holland) Erickson in
Fillmore County, Minnesota. She attended Scheie Country School and graduated
from Spring Grove High School in 1946.
She married Leland Housker on June 6, 1948 in Spring Grove where they
owned and operated Housker Tavern. The couple had two children and moved
to Austin in the 1950’s. Leland passed away on June 25, 1962.
In 1967 Gloria married Norman Opsahl. They had one daughter and were
later divorced. Gloria worked at several retail shops and cared for her
grandchildren when they were infants. A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church
and American Legion Auxiliary, she was a Boy Scout Leader and Girl Scout
Leader, did a lot of needle work, loved to camp, enjoyed eating out with
friends and spent several winters in Texas.
Survivors include a son, Steven Housker of Greenbelt, Maryland; two
daughters: Debra (Mark) Johnson of Shawnee, Kansas and Renae (Darin)
Simonson of Austin; four grandchildren: Matthew Johnson, Elizabeth (Kent)
Padomek, Allison Simonson, Tori Simonson; one great-granddaughter, Ella;
brother, Verdon Erickson of Owatonna. She was preceded in death by her
parents; both husbands and a brother in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 27, 2010 at
Worlein Funeral Home in Austin with Pastor Kristi Koppel officiating.
Interment will be at Spring Grove Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Erin
Schumacher is the soloist, accompanied by Neal Erickson. Friends may call
from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Worlein Funeral Home and one hour prior to the
service. Casket bearers are Matthew Johnson, Elizabeth Padomek, Allison
Simonson and Tori Simonson. The family prefers memorials to St. Olaf
Lutheran Church Radio Broadcast.

Richard “Dick” Benesh, Jr. 1950-2010
Richard “Dick” Benesh, Jr., 60, of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, formerly of
Austin, Minnesota passed away peacefully after a five year battle with cancer
on September 22, 2010, with family by his side at Our Lady of Good Counsel
Hospice Home in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Dick was born March 24, 1950 in Austin, Minnesota to Richard and Marcy
Benesh. He graduated from Austin High School in 1968. For the last 20
years he has been working for the Target Corporation. He enjoyed
golfing, watching golf, genealogy, Gopher sports, watching his nephews
and nieces’ sporting events and being with family and friends. Dick
was loved by all that crossed his path, he was funny, spontaneous and
always there if you needed him. He always walked a path that was true
to himself. We’ll all miss his humor and sarcasm.
Dick is survived by his parents, Richard and Marcy Benesh, brother,
Steve (Jane) Benesh, sisters, Ann (Mike) Herman and Mary (George)
Tschida; nephews Jason Oussey and Joey Tschida; nieces, Jenny VanHal
(Matt) and Analiese Tschida; and great-nephew, Kavan VanHal and many
wonderful friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 25 at Mayer Funeral
Home in Austin. Family will be greeting family and friends at 2 p.m.
and a memorial service will follow at 3 p.m.

Janet (nee Hrubetz) Deboe 1940-2010
Janet Hrubetz Deboe, 70, of Las Vegas, Nevada, died September 12, 2010 in
Las Vegas.
Janet was born on December 13, 1940 in Austin, Minnesota, to Louis and
Lorraine Hrubetz. She graduated from Austin High School in 1957 and received
a degree at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. Janet was an airline
stewardess for Northwest Airlines. She also was an executive secretary
at Aerospace in Manhattan Beach, California. She was Miss Sioux Falls and
runner-up to Miss America. Janet was married to David Deboe of California.
Survivors include her daughter Heather (Corey) Nelson; granddaughter
Ashley Vance; her sisters: Barbara (Chet) Nelson, of Lyle, and Karen (Doc)
Skjeveland, Doc Skjeveland, of Cottage Grove.
She was preceded in death by son Michael Deboe, her mother and father,
seven sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at Rice Funeral Home in Torrance, Calif.
Sept. 24 at 10:30 a.m.

Carlyle Junes Mathson1933-2010
Carlyle Junes Mathson, 77, of Lyle, died at St. Mary’s Hospital in
Rochester Tuesday morning, Sept. 21, 2010.
He was born Sept. 8, 1933, to Mathias and Clara Amelia (Halverson)
Matson in Gary, S. D. After graduation from high school and two years in
Vo-Tech, Carlyle served in the Army from July 1954 until May 1956, stationed
in Germany. He married Virginia Paulson on Oct. 11, 1958, in Brainerd. They
made their home in Aurora for more than 30 years where he was a mining
company plant mechanic. He was also a sheriff’s deputy in St. Louis County.
They moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where they were condominium caretakers for
three years. They have lived in Lyle since 1991.
A member of Christian Motorcycle Association, Carlyle was trustee,
chairman, teacher and deacon in the church. He loved his grandchildren,
the outdoors, hunting, fishing and cutting firewood. He will be remembered
as a family patriarch, Christian leader and prayer warrior.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Lyle; three sons: Kirby (Tammi)
Mathson of Embarrass; David (Renae) Mathson of Sitka, Arkansas; John (Kim)
Mathson of Cambridge; 10 grandchildren: Joshua, Lukas (Amanda), Brooke,
Benjamin, Chadd, Zachary, Moriah, Eiric, Rosella and Peter; five siblings:
Julius (Norma) Mathson of Brainerd; Ardis Larson of Iron Mountain, Mich.;
Clarine Sanders of Brainerd; Melvin (Susan) Matson Andover; Delores (Carl)
Watson of Deerwood; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rosella.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at Faith
Evangelical Free Church with Reverend Hillmore Williams and Reverend Allan
Flint officiating and military rites by American Legion Post 91. Friends
may call at Worlein Funeral Home, Austin, from 4 to 7 p.m., Saturday and
at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Bay Lake

Bernard Lambert Schnorenberg 1917-2010
Bernard Lambert Schnorenberg, 93, passed away on Aug. 22, 2010, at Luther
Hospital in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Bernard was born April 15, 1917, to Edward and Ann Schnorenberg at Rose
Creek. Prior to being drafted, he worked at George A. Hormel Co. in Austin.
He served in the U.S. Army as a Medic in the European Theatre from April 24,
1942 until his honorable discharge on October 28, 1945. His deployments
included Africa, Italy, Sicily, France and Germany. He returned to work
at the Hormel Co. and retired on September 28, 1979.
On April 11, 1943, Bernard Married Betty Jane Geske at Rose Creek. Upon
retirement, the couple moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin., where they made
their home. After 60 years of marriage, Betty preceded him in death on
March 16, 2003.
Bernard is survived by one brother, Francis (Mary) Schnorenberg of
Mantorville; three sisters: Lillian Sneve of Rochester; Dorothy Schulz of
Austin, and Mary (Leonard) Van Den Hemel of Owatana; two sisters-in-law,
Ellen Schnorenberg of Waseca and Lois Geske of St. Paul; brother -in-law,
John Wallace (Stephanie) Geske of Blair, Wisconsin.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; brother,
Jerome; brothers-in-law: Rudy Sneve, Arthur Geske and Wallace Soller;
Donna Soller, and sisters-in-law Jackie Geske.
A private family graveside service will be held later at Forest Hill
Cemetery, Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Smith Funeral Chapel assissted the family
with arrangements.

Marjorie Aleen (Furman) Frantum 1923-2010
Marjorie Frantum, 87, died Sept. 20, 2010 at Field Crest Care Center in
Hayfield.
Marjorie Aleen Furman was born on August 9, 1923, the daughter of Glenn
R. and Georgia (Alsup) Furman, in Austin, Mower county, Minnesota. She
graduated from high school and worked as a secretary at various places
for 20-25 years. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Frantum on July
6, 1946. Marjorie and her husband lived in Austin and later moved to Albert
Lea where they resided for many years. They moved to Rochester in the early
1990’s. Marjorie moved to Hayfield and resided at Field Crest Care Center.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea and later at
Byron.
Marjorie is survived by two daughters: Patricia (Sydney) Larson, Byron;
Bette Jo (Dan) Wilson, Hayfield; three grandsons, two granddaughters, and
three great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents,
husband in 2002, one brother and three sisters.
The memorial service for Marjorie Aleen Frantum will be 1p.m. Saturday,
Sept. 25, 2010 at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home (501 2nd Street NW) in
Hayfield with visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Byron Cemetery.

James Robert Hunter 1953-2010
James Robert Hunter, 56, of Austin, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2010 in
Austin.
James was born on October 10, 1953 in Monroe, Michigan to Andrew and
Sylvia (Larson) Hunter. He graduated from Austin High School and received
and Bachelor’s Degree from St. Cloud State University. On June 13, 1981 he
was united in marriage to Barbara Gerlach in Austin. Jim served in the
United States Army. He was an accountant and a member at River Oaks Golf
Club. Jim enjoyed golfing, biking, playing cards, walking, woodworking,
and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hunter, Austin; children: Carl
Hunter, Rochester; Amanda Hunter, Austin; and Cameron Hunter, Austin
(attending Winona State University); brothers: John (Cindy), Lakeville;
Paul (Jan), Waseca; David, Austin; sisters: Dorothy (Vern) Erickson, Golden
Valley; Diane (Chuck) Frost, Mankato; brother-in-law, Dale Menten, Excelsior;
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Sylvia Hunter; and
two sisters, Sandra McAllister and Ruth Menten.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 at
Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. There
will be a 7:30 pm wake service on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends
may call from 5-8 p.m.. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery with
military rites by American Legion Post #91.
Those attending are requested to dress with color for this Celebration
of Life.
Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
