Melinda J. (Stanbro) Mitchell, 56, passed away due to a massive stroke June 7, at General Hospital in Dothan, Alabama.

Melinda J. Mitchell was born in Charles City, Iowa, to Charles and Helen (Lappin) Stanbro on Nov. 4, 1953; they were later divorced.

She graduated from LeRoy High School [LeRoy, Mower county, Minnesota] in 1972 and then served in the Navy from 1973 to 1976 and then met and married Ronald Mitchell. They made their home in Dothan, Alabama, and had two daughters, Ilesha (Cory) Shiver and Lani Mitchell, and one granddaughter, Tea’.

For the most part she was a stay-at-home mother and helped raise another child, Tiffany, whom she loved very much.

She is survived by her parents, Helen (Norbert) Gerber of LeRoy, Minn. and Charles (Sandy) Stanbro of Charles City, Iowa; one brother, Craig (Linda) Stanbro; one sister, Colleen (Bruce) Lein; a step-brother, Kevin (Joanne) Stanbro; a step-sister, Leesa (Barry) Seims; two half-sisters, Denise (Larry) Hall and Mitchelle (Robert) Marion; and one half-brother, Chuck (Deb) Stanbro.

The body was cremated. There will be no services.

Bradley Craig Barnett, 53, of Blair, Wisconsin, died on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, in his home.

Brad was born on Feb. 8, 1957, in Austin, Mower county, Minnesota. He married Lynn Wollschlager on July 29, 1978, in Nashua, Iowa. Brad and Lynn moved to Blair from Austin in 1978 where Brad was employed with Stetzer Electric.

Brad enjoyed mechanical work and rebuilt two complete cars from the ground up. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and four wheeling.

Brad is survived by his wife, Lynn; a daughter, Ashley; and a son, Tyler, all of Blair, Wis.; his parents, Bill and Lauretta Barnett of Austin; a brother, Terry (Liz) Barnett of Wayzata, Minn.; a sister, Gina Barnett of Otranto, Iowa; his father-in-law, Leroy Wollschlager of Austin; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Wollschlager of Austin; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his grandparents, Brad was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Barbara Wollschlager.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the First Lutheran Church in Blair with the Rev. Christine Hallemeier officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Austin at a later date.

The Jack Funeral Home in Blair is assisting the family with arrangements.

Pastor Don Deines, 65, of Austin died peacefully on Sunday, June 6, 2010, at the Three Links Care Center, Northfield, Minn.

An ordained pastor of the ELCA, Don had been on disability since 2004 due to young onset Alzheimer’s.

Don was born on November 15, 1944, to the Rev. I.J. and Dorothy (MacAllister) Deines and grew up in the lovely town of Greene located on the Shell Rock River in North Central Iowa. He graduated from Greene High School in 1963. He then attended Luther College where he was a member of the Nordic Choir, serving as president of the choir for its 1967 European Tour. After graduating from Luther, he married Judy Snell in Mason City, Iowa on Aug. 20, 1967. He then attended Luther Seminary in St, Paul, Minn. He was ordained in 1971 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greene, Iowa. His first call was as youth pastor at St. John's Lutheran Church in LeMars, Iowa. Don also served as Co-Pastor at Emmanuel Lutheran in Tacoma, Wash.; Pastor of Underwood Lutheran Church, Underwood, Iowa; Pastor of Life and Growth at Bethel Lutheran in Rochester, Minn.; and Senior Pastor of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Austin. Don loved being a pastor, especially the people part of ministry and the preaching.

Don is survived by his wife, Judy Deines of Northfield, Minn.; sons and daughter-in-law, Benjamin Deines of Austin, Joseph and Becky Deines of Bend, Ore.; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Pastor Dan Forsgren of Cannon Falls, Minn.; grandchildren, Autumn Weeks, Donny, Karis and William Forsgren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Fontell Deines of Cordova, Illinois, Pastor John and Martha Deines of Cedar Falls, Iowa; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Jim Neessen of Tucson, Ariz.; mother-in-law, Leola Snell of Mason City, Iowa; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Pat and Dr. Keith Colwell of Johnston, Iowa, Dr. Mick and Carol Snell of Hampton, Iowa; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 11, 2010, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Glenn L. Monson and Bishop Harold L. Usgaard officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Visitation will be at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Thursday, June 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday for one hour before the service.

Memorials are preferred to the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Research Center or Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Austin.

Herbert Christ Petersen, 92, longtime resident of Austin, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Sterling House in Owatonna.

Herb was born April 22, 1918, in Jackson, Minn. to Jens and Elizabeth (DeTienne) Petersen. He grew up in the New Richmond, Wis. area. He served stateside during World War II. He married Bernadean (Steinbarger) Kuether on June 7, 1944, in Stillwater and they lived in St. Paul before moving to Austin.

Herb worked for the Austin Public Schools for more than 35 years. His real passion was doing lighting on the stage. He had the opportunity to meet many famous people and worked extensively with the Miss Austin and Miss Minnesota pageants. Herb and Bernie enjoyed years of wintering in Mission, Texas. Herb also enjoyed camping, fishing, car rides and connecting with Austin High School alumni.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadean; his parents, Jens and Elizabeth; a sister, Evelyn, and a brother, Melvin.

He is survived by his sons, Danny (Dorothy) Petersen of Owatonna and Edwin Kuether of Woodbury; five grandchildren, Teri (Patrick) Steckelberg and children Spencer, Logan and Lainey; Melissa Petersen and children Olivia and Ethan; Jody Kuether and daughter, Chelsea; Camy (Randy) Dusich; Darcy (Scott) Oleson and, daughter Allison.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Worlein Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Stephen DeFor officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour prior to the service. Interment is in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin. DIES AFTER
HEART ATTACK

Rev. William J. Campbell, 52, who combined community service and overseas evangelism with his ministry at the First Methodist Church died at suppertime Monday, following a heart attack.

Apparently in good health, the Rev. Mr. Campbell had been making pastoral visits in the afternoon. He had no history of heart trouble.

The Rev. Mr. Campbell's clear voice had boomed forth from the Methodist pulpit since his assignment here in 1949. Under his pastorate the church grew, a Christian education wing was completed, and a daughter church -- Fellowship Methodist, was organized on Austin's southeast side.

Went Overseas

His desire to serve in the mission field took him to Japan in 1955 when he was assigned to spend several months in Methodist missions there. He followed this with a missionary tour in the Dominican Republic in 1957. Following both foreign tours, the Rev. Mr. Campbell returned to Austin and his pulpit.

Served Several Towns

He came here from First Methodist Church, Duluth, and served pastorates in Proctor, Brookston and Morgan Park churches in Duluth, Salem, N.H., Lawrence, Mass., and First Swedish Methodist, Duluth. He was a native of Duluth and a graduate of Morgan Park High School, Duluth Junior College, University School of Theology from which he received both bachelor's and Master's degrees; and had completed his residence work for his doctorate at Boston.

In 1957 he was named arbitor in a labor dispute involving the Owatonna Canning Co. and Midwest Canning Co. with the United Packinghouse Workers of America. His decision favoring the union was accepted.

He was a familiar figure in Austin's civic life too. A member of the Masonic Lodge, the Oddfellows, and the Lions, he also served as president of Civic Music one year and headed the E change Club in 1951.

Friendly Manner

His friendly manner was known to many Austinites who were not part of his flock -- the Rev. Mr. Campbell's favorite term for his congregation. He loved outdoor acivities, hunting and fishing, and was a sports enthusiast.

When he came to Austin, he continued his interest in young people, an interest first manifested in the depression years when he organized programs for unemployed youth at the Pillsbury Settlement House in Minneapolis and other youth programs which were patterns adoped by other churches.

Worked in Mills

Before he entered the ministry, the Rev. Mr. Campbell worked in the steel mills of Duluth and on the railroad. He also worked his way through 10 years of college. His father, Charles, was a railroad man.

The Rev. Mr. Campbell and his widow, Astrid Sjorgren of Duluth, were married in Duluth in 1938 and Mrs. Campbell joined him in accepting the responsibilities of his pastorates.

Five Children

Surviving are Mrs. Campbell and five children, Paul, a sophmore at the University of Hawaii, Cynthia, a senior at Austin High School; Rolf and Charles, in school, and Drew, at home; his mother, Mrs. Anna Campbell, East Hampton, Conn.; two sisters, Mrs. Helge Palm (Thelma), East Hampton, Conn.; Mrs. James Fairley (Annamae), Duluth; and a brother, Robert, White Bear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Methodist Church. Officiating will be Dr. George Butters, Southeast Department Superintendent of the Minnesota Conference of Methodist Churches; Dr. Dwight Loder, president, Garrett Theological Seminary, Evanston, Illinois; and Rev. Edwin J. Arnold, pastor, First Congregational Church, Austin.

And at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Methodist Church, Duluth, with Dr. Winfield Haycock, pastor, and Dr. Frank Cort, Lincoln, Nebraska, who was pastor of First Methodist, Duluth when the Rev. Mr. Campbell was associate pastor there, officiating.

Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Duluth.

Friends may call at the Jordan Mortuary until 9 a.m. Thursday. The body will lie in state at the church here from 9 a.m. until the service.

The family prefers memorials.

William “Bill” Skinner, 87, of Austin, Minnesota, died peacefully Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Sacred Heart Care Center surrounded by his family.

Bill was born on April 16, 1923, to Wilbur and Kathryn Farrell Skinner in Austin. Bill graduated from St Augustine’s High School. While in high school, Bill started working at Hormel and retired from there after 45 years.

Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. After his discharge, Bill returned to Austin and resumed working at Hormel.

On June 28, 1947, Bill married Shirley Harlan. Together, they raised six children, Beth Bodensteiner, (David Nelson) Austin, Mark Skinner, Shakopee, Minn., Matt Skinner (Susan) Rochester, Minn., Mary Ellen Grega (John) Black Hawk, South Dakota, Sarah Carlson (Scott) Maple Grove Minn., and Nora Jude (Tom) Grove City, Ohio.

Bill never met a golf course he didn’t like, or a lake that had no fish in it. He was strong in faith and character, and lived for his family and friends. He is greatly missed.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brother Farrell, sister Margaret Johnson, and Mother-in-law Mary Ellen Harlan Luksik. In addition to his wife and children, Bill is survived by one sister, Mary Schmidt (Benny) Owatonna Minn., Grandchildren Kari, Addie, Kate, Dan, Josh, Kelli, Kyle, Emily, Casie and Myles, great-grand children Maya, Jacob, Trevor, Sophie and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Tuesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4-7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post No. 91.

Memorials may be made in Bill’s name to either the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org or The American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org. Appreciation is extended to the staff at Sacred Heart Care Center, for their caring and compassionate help while Bill was a resident there.

LEROY, Minn. — Services for Miss Anna Erie, 66, who died Tuesday in an Austin, Minnesota hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Lutheran Church here; burial in the church cemetery.

LYLE MAN DIES
IN AUTO CRASH

George Larson, Contractor, Killed When Car Hits Bridge Abutment.

BERESFORD, SOUTH DAKOTA — George Larson, 66, contractor from Lyle, Minnesota, was killed when his car crashed into a bridge abutment. His son, Elser, 20, who was driving, suffered three fractured ribs and severe cuts about the face.

The accident occurred Sunday night. Elser Larson said he turned out to avoid another car which was traveling in the middle of Ihe road. The other men in the rear seat escaped injury.

Larson is survived by his widow and 10 children.

Gary A. Sutter, age 81, died Friday, June 11, 2010, at Samaritan Bethany in Rochester.

Gary was born on March 19, 1929, in Minneapolis, Minn. to Armand and Edith (Larsen) Sutter. Gary graduated from Austin High School in 1947. On December 31, 1950, Gary married Charlotte Fogelstrom at Faith Evangelical United Brethren Church, Austin. Gary started working at the Smith Shoe Store at the age of 15, eventually owning Smith Shoe Store before retiring at the age of 65. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.

Gary enjoyed spending time at his lake home up north and taking pontoon boat rides before dinner. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Austin Post No. 91, American Legion, Elks Club, Mower County Seniors, the Audubon Society, Austin Morning Lions Club, and Score.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte; his parents, Armand and Edith; siblings, Jean Movich, and Kay Pemble.

Clifton Ellsworth Vick, age 84 of Austin, died Friday, June 11, 2010, at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

He was born December 5, 1925, to Gilbert and Emma (Traaen) Vick in Spring Grove, Minn., where he attended high school. Enlisting in the U.S. Army in November of 1944, Clifton was stationed in Japan and honorably discharged from the medical supply department in 1946.

He married Velma Beckel on September 30, 1950, at Church of Christ in Austin. He began working for Geo. A. Hormel & Company in January of 1951 and retired in 1985. As members of Grace Lutheran Church, Clifton and Velma were active volunteers. Also a member of the Eagles and Austin Senior Center, Clifton attended Austin High School basketball, baseball and football games.

He loved his family and was a good fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. Besides playing Whist, Cribbage and horseshoes, he won several bowling trophies. Clifton enjoyed taking care of home ownership, especially his manicured lawn.

Survivors include his wife, Velma of Austin; son Stephen (Kathy) Vick of Garner, Iowa; daughter, Kathy (Frank) Hale of Garland, Texas; three grandchildren, Daniel Hale, Matthew Vick and Amy (Paul) Miller; one great grandchild, Aubrey Miller; two sisters, Norma Dahl of Canton, Minnesota and Lavaughn Blagsvedt of Rushford, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 14, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Jeffrey Forbes officiating. Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home, Austin, from 4to 7 p.m., Sunday and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91.

Howard Schmidt, age 87, of Mankato, Minnesota, died on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 17, at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Orlin Mandsager officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospice and the American Cancer Society.

Howard was born on March 20, 1923, in Walters, Minn. to Mark and Eva (Anderson) Schmidt. He graduated from Austin High School and attended Austin Junior College for two years. Howard enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served in the 4th Marine Division. He served in World War II in the Pacific Theater and the Battle of Iwojima. He was united in marriage to Marian Jensen and they had two children. She passed on March 19, 1968.

Howard then married Mary Bollenbacher. He worked as a salesman for Hormel for 25 years. He then worked in sales for Green Colonial Air Conditioning and Heating. Howard founded Schmidt Construction and finished his career as a manager with Culligan. He retired at the age of 70. Howard enjoyed fishing, golfing, music, dining out, and Saturday breakfasts.

Howard is survived by his son, Mark (Marge) Schmidt and their children Nicholas (Ann) Schmidt and Jodi Schmidt; daughter, Janet (William) Janssen and their children Angela (Brian) Zerngible and William H. Janssen; and step children, Peter (Michelle) Bollenbacher, John P. Bollenbacher, and Margaret A. Bollenbacher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first and second wife, and three brothers, Henry, Severt, and Donald.

Gary is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Brian and Linda Sutter of Eatonville, Washington; Ron and Helen Sutter of Lanesboro, Minnesota; Kevin and Julie Sutter of Rochester, Minnesota; Scott and Carla Sutter of New Brighton, Minnesota; grandchildren: Amy and Matt Peach of Edmonds, Washington, Carissa and Jordan Mills of Federal Way, Washington; Adam Sutter and Erik Sutter of Lanesboro, Minnesota; Heidi Sutter of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Heather Sutter of Rochester, Minnesota; Kaylie Sutter of Dodge Center, Minnesota, Sam Sutter of New Brighton, Minnesota, and Sydney MacGregor of New Brighton, Minnesota; great-grandchildren: Emily Peach, Garrett Peach, Lilly Mills, Lana Mills, and Carter Meincke; siblings: Brad Sutter of Williamsburg, Virginia, Diane (Sutter) Nelson of Port Ludlow, Washington, Jon Sutter of North Richland Hills, Texas,, Steve Sutter of Osseo, Minnesota, Mike Sutter of Bloomington, Minnesota.

Paul J. Ulwelling, age 92, of Adams, Minnesota, died Friday, June 11, 2010, at the Adams Health Care Center.

Paul John Ulwelling was born May 22, 1918, at Adams, Minn., the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Steins) Ulwelling. He graduated from the Adams High School and served in the US Army in the Mechanized Division of the 4th Cavalry. Paul was married to Leone Mary Kramer on May 24, 1949, at Adams, Minn. They farmed in the Adams area. After moving into Adams he was employed by the DAC in Adams for many years.

As a young man, Paul was an avid baseball player. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and bowling.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and Adams Post #146 American Legion.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Leone, brother, Leo and sister, Marie. Paul is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Victoria and Paul Blum of Minneapolis; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Sandra Ulwelling of Plainview, Minn,; grandchildren, Joe Blum, Tom Blum, Sarah Blum, Lisa Czech, Amy Alger and Callie Ulwelling; great-grandson, Luca; nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams, with visitation one hour before the service. Father Ruben Spinler will be officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery with Adams Post # 146 American Legion in charge of military rites. Pamela Dolores Garcia of Austin, Minnesota, died shortly after her birth Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Survivors include her parents, Marcelo and Dolores “Lola” (Villalpando) Garcia; three siblings, Mireya, Yerik “Yette” and Oswaldo “Ozzy” Garcia, all at home; her maternal grandmother, Elena Martinez of Plainview, Texas; her paternal grandparents, Grogorio Garcia Ramirez and Maria Isabel Garcia of Hidalgo, Mexico, and many aunts, uncles and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Raymando Villalpando.

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Duane "Snorkie" Mullenbach, 69, of St. Ansgar, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2010, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, in the presence of his family and loved ones after succumbing to a battle with cancer. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Lyle, Minnesota. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar City Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. today, Monday, June 14, at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

Born in rural Adams, Mower county, Minnesota, in 1940, Snorkie moved to St. Ansgar, with his new bride, Maggie, in 1963. He dedicated 40 years of service to the community as a local volunteer fireman, serving 18 years as fire chief.

Snorkie sold his welding business in 2006 to spend time enjoying friends and family, gardening and watching Minnesota Twins baseball.

Snorkie was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lynn, his parents, Ernie and Leona Mullenbach,and mother-in-law and father-in-law Loretta and Leo Eversman.

Snorkie is survived by his wife, Maggie; his children: Dan (Barb) Mullenbach of Urbandale, Darrell (Jeanne) Mullenbach of Urbandale, Sue (Jon) Henaman of St. Ansgar, Elaine (Jym) Hansen of St. Ansgar, and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Lorraine (Aaron) Mandler of Adams, Minnesota, and Veronica Juenger of Stacyville.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all those who have worked and celeberated life with Snorkie over the years.

Margo J. Flynn, 56, passed away at home on June 11, 2010.

Margo was born on Sept. 14, 1953, to Mary Lou (Dolliff) and Leland (Jack) McGrew.

She graduated from Austin High School in 1972 and Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., in 1976. She was currently a teacher of library media science at Arcadia Elementary Middle School in Arcadia, Wis.

Margo is survived by her four children, Matthew, Maren, Peter and Kyle Flynn; three sisters, Kathleen Villette, Gini (Bill) Blunden and Terry (Ken Lerzak) Truesdell; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Her parents, Jack and Mary Lou, preceded her in death.

A memorial service and celebration of her life is planned for Tuesday, June 15, at 2 p.m. at the Arcadia High School in Arcadia, Wis.

Marcella Delores Otterbein, 69, of Austin, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at her home.

Marcy was born on December 26, 1940, in Dodge Center, Minnesota. She was married to Robert Otterbein in Northwood, Iowa, in 1958. Marcy grew up in the southern Minnesota area. She also lived some time in California and Nebraska. Marcy was interested in her family who she loved dearly. She retired as a hairdresser.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Otterbein; son, Todd Otterbein; daughter, Lorrie (Mark) Sands; sister, Sharon (Dan) Luben; brother, Sterling (Kathy) Boysen; sister, Patricia Boysen; sister, LaVonne Boysen; brothers, Duane, Darrell and Thomas; special nephew, Benjamin Luben; grandson, Cory Sands.

Marcy is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Boysen and Emma (Armbrust) Boysen; granddaughter, Sara Sands.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, June 17, 2010, at Crane Community Chapel with the Rev. Dale Christiansen officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield.

MCINTIRE MAN

Funeral services were held for a McIntire man, Myron Starry, 80, February 21, 1980, at the Hutchins Funeral Home in LeRoy, with the Reverend George Bergland officiating. Interment was at the Wayne Cemetery near McIntire.

Mr. Starry was born August 24, 1900 in Waterman, Illinois, the son of Daniel and Sophie Starry.

He was united in marriage to Edith Van Syoc on December 8, 1923. They farmed in the McIntire-Riceville area during their early years and later owned and operated a grocery store in McInitire. During his retirement he resided in McIntire and in 1979 due to failing health, made his home with his daughter and family in Austin.

He is survived by his six children; Mrs. Floyd (Maxine) DeVries of Austin, Mrs. Clyde (Bernice) Walker of Elma, Robert D. Starry of McIntire, Dennis C. Starry of Austin, Mrs. Roger (Mary) Hultman of Austin, Donald E. Starry of Austin. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one brother, Frank Starry of Austin and three sisters; Mrs. Edna Carter and Mrs. Irene Nicholas, both of Riceville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, one brother, Ben and two sisters, Stella and Minnie.

Elaine Ahles, 66, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday morning, June 19, 2010, at the Austin Medical Center.

Elaine Dorothy Langerud was born Sept. 2, 1943, in Faribault, Minn. to John Arthur and Edna Dorothy (Thibodeau) Langerud. She went to public schools in Blooming Prairie and Claremont and graduated on May 25, 1961, from Claremont High School. Elaine married Jimmie A. Ahles on Aug. 5, 1961, in Beloit, Wis. She continued her education at Austin Junior College and on June 1, 1966, received her Associate of Arts degree with Distinction. Elaine worked at Hormel Foods as an accounting clerk in the corporate office retiring after 39 years of service. Jimmie and Elaine lived all of their married lives in Austin. Elaine enjoyed bowling with the Hormel Girls in earlier years. She also liked to camp, gamble and travel. She loved spending time with her family.

Surviving are her husband, Jimmie of Austin; daughter, Deborah (Philip) Van Syoc of Cedar Falls, Iowa; son, Dean (Chera-Lynn) Ahles of Austin; five grandchildren, McKala, McKinze, Alyssa, Drew, Hailey; two brothers, Raymond (Betty) Langerud of St. Louis, Mo., Gordon Langerud of Rockton, Ill.; two sisters, Joanne (Wayne) Finne of Rochester, Kathy (Steve) Canterbury of Harmony; half-brother, Jimmy Langerud of Wisconsin; nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Edna; sister, Helen; brother, William “Billy.”

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel with Sister Lorraine Loecher officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. The family prefers memorials to the American Red Cross.

Donald Joseph Zahradnik, 73, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Saturday morning, June 19, 2010, at his home with his family near him.

He was born on August 24, 1936, in Austin to Henry and Agnes (Viktora) Zahradnik. He graduated from Austin High School in 1954. On June 22, 1963, Don married Kay Howard in Rochester, Minn. Don was involved in Cub Scouts and served as Cubmaster when the boys were young. He enjoyed collecting farm toys, loved to garden and work with his vegetables and flowers. Don served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked in Winona, owned a resort in northern Minnesota and moved back to Austin in 1982.

Survivors include his wife, Kay; his mother, Agnes Zahradnik of Austin; three sons, Steve (Laura) Zahradnik of Rose Creek, Minn., Doug (Chris) Zahradnik of Austin and Kurt Zahradnik of Austin; three grandchildren, Megan, Bryce and Amanda; a brother, Kenneth (Beverly) Zahradnik, of Rochester and a sister, LaVonne (Paul) Pettersen, of Stockton, Minn.; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Worlein Funeral Home, Austin with the Rev. Dr. Stephen DeFor officiating. Interment is at a later date.

F. Lloyd (Tip) Young, age 75, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at Grand Meadow Health Care Center.

He was born on October 14, 1931, in Austin to Frederick and Pruda (Moulten) Young. He graduated from Austin High School. He attended Macalester College before coming back to Austin where he worked in the family business, S. L. Young and Sons. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. After the army he returned to Austin where he worked and later owned and operated the family business.

He married Patricia A. Johnson on February 4, 1966, in St. Paul, Minnesota. In the early 90's he received an associates degree in accounting and completed the business program at the Riverland Technical College.

He was a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, and Westminster Presbyterian Church where he was an elder, usher and Sunday School teacher.

Tip enjoyed Vikings football, cribbage, pool, bowling, and reading westerns and mysteries.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Young, of Austin; children: John (Pam) Young, of Puerto Rico; David Young, of Mantorville, Minn.; Patrick (Holly) Young, of Rockford, Mich.; Maureen (Tom) Starmack, of Crystal Lake, Ill.; Jeff Young, of Austin; Molly (Rick) Peters, of Charles City, Iowa; nine grandchildren; sisters: P.L. Lood, of Los Gatos, Calif.; Nancy Sipley, of West Des Moines, Iowa; Carla (Richie) Vingoe, of Wallkill, N.Y.; Sandee Clark, of Fort Plain, N.Y.; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 13, at 10:30 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. Andrew M. Lindahl officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday for one hour before the service. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Pianist will be Jan Muzik. Soloist will be Erin Schumacher.

Honorary bearers will be Bryce Young, Michael Young, Matthew Young, Kelsey Young, Taylor Young, Thomas Young, Ian Young, Spencer Young and Reed Peters. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

Mrs. M. E. Palmer^**

Used to Live Here

Funeral services for Mrs. E. Palmer^**, who died last Wednesday, at the Jordan mortuary Monday, at 1:30 p.m. The Reverend Warner Johnson officiated.

Burial was made at the Woodbury Cemetery.

Marietta Owen was born April 15, 1847, near Millerton, Conn. When 11 years of age she came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Owen, to Lyle, Minnesota. They were among the first of the early settlers to locate there.

She was married February 19, 1883, at their home near Lyle. Two sons also preceded her in death.

Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Magee, of Austin, Minnesota, a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter, and a brother, J. C. Owen, all of Austin.

Later in life she was married to F. L. Palmer.

She was for many years a resident of Osage, living in the north part of the town, and later moving to Austin, Minnesota.

Elizabeth Mae Dudley, 74, of Austin, Minnesota, a native of Rockbridge County of Lexington, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 20.

She resided at The Good Samaritan Rest Home of Austin since March due to a long term illness.

She was born December 17, 1935, in the Collierstown area of Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Annie Potter Patterson and the wife of the late Buford Dudley.

Elizabeth was a quiet, gentle spirited lady who loved life, family, and friends and loved the Lord. She loved doing things for others and was very generous of giving of herself, her time and wanting to meet the needs of others. Her life was a heritage of godliness that reflected a life of loving devotion to her Savior, Jesus Christ.

She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Hoff, and son-in-law, Danny, of Austin; two granddaughters, Tonia (Josh) DeClue of Austin, Tiffany Loverink of Austin; three great-granddaughters, Whitney, Jada and Danni of Austin; three sisters-in-law, Roena (Jim) Fowler of Buchanan, Va., Polly Dudley of Rock Ridge County, Va. and Martha Patterson of Buena Vista, Va.; one brother-in-law, Howard Dudley of Botetourt County, Va.; and nieces and nephews of Virginia and friends whom she loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 24, at 11 a.m. at the Crane Community Chapel with the Rev. Dale R. Christiansen officiating. Friends may call at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and at the church for one hour before the service on Thursday.

Interment will be in the Rappsmill Cemetery, Buchanan, Virginia, on Thursday, July 1. There will be a visitation at the Botetourt Funeral Home from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 1.

Paul M. Dombrock, 66, of Owatonna, Minnesota, died Sunday, June 20, 2010, at his home.

Paul was born July 8, 1943, in Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, the son of LeRoy and Mary (McGuire) Dombrock. There he was raised and attended Austin-Pacelli High School. He then attended school at Albert Lea Vo-Tech studying drafting. He was united in marriage to Rita Perl and the couple made their home in Owatonna. Paul worked for OMC for 20 years and later for Blount where he worked as a draftsman. Paul later retired from Blount and worked various jobs after retirement including at the Owatonna Hospital.

Paul was an avid pool player and enjoyed playing cards, fishing and reading.

He is survived by two daughters, Julie Dombrock of Owatonna and Sarah (Carl) Wheeler; a son, Kevin Dombrock of Las Vegas; three brothers, David (Judy) Dombrock of Tacoma, Wash., Craig Dombrock of Austin, Doug Dombrock of Austin; and a sister, Tori (Curt) Evans of Austin.

He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Clarence Bernard Moeykens, 95, of Austin, died Monday, June 21, 2010, at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center.

Clarence was born on September 25, 1914, in Austin to Julius and Marie (DeLoof) Moeykens. He attended country school. On January 15, 1936, Clarence was united in marriage to Genevieve Ginn at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin.

Clarence farmed for 40 years northwest of Austin. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his daughter and son-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and visiting in his garage with his friends. Clarence was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and the Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Moeykens of Austin; daughter, Lynda (James) Ruzek of Rochester; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters; and a son Gary.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 7 p.m. wake service on Wednesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The casket bearers will be Mitchel Ruzek, Matthew Ruzek, Eugene Moeykens, Larry Moeykens, Richard Moeykens and Jerry Hesch.

L. W. ENGLISH,
DIED AT AUSTIN

L. W. English, a former Osager, and a relative of the Voaklanders, passed away Saturday night at an Austin hospital from pneumonia. He was 78 years old.

Two daughters came from their homes in Montana, arriving at Austin in time to see their father alive; and after his death took him back to Montana. It will be recalled that Mrs. English died several years ago at Billings.

Another daughter, living in Idaho, did not make the trip.

The Englishes used to own and occupy Irving Vaughn's house on East State Street, moving to Austin about seven or eight years ago.

Lyman H. English

Lyman H. English was born at Windsor, N. Y., in 1852, and at the age of 2 years came with his folks, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel English, to Dell Prairie, Wis. Then when he was about 8 years old his folks came to Iowa, bringing their possessions in two covered wagons drawn by ox teams. It was necessary to go around by McGregor or cross the Mississippi.

They settled on an acre of land on the creek back of the Burr Oak Church, where is located a spring.

In 1880 Lyman married Sarah Glafs, of Charles City, and the couple went to housekeeping on an eighty in the southeast corner of section 33, a mile north of the Burr Oak Church. The place is now marked by an Evergreen grove, but no buildings are left.

A few years later, when the Great Western railroad was built. Lyman and his wife went to the town of Elma, just being started. He, with a Mr. Burcell, operated a butcher shop, later adding groceries, flour and feed to their line. Mr. English was in Elma thirty years, moving from there to Osage.

The Englishes lived but a few years in Osage, owning the house on east State Street now owned and occupied by the I. E. Vaughns. They moved from Osage to Austin about eight years ago.

Mrs. English died several years ago while visiting her daughters at Billings, Montana and was buried there. The remains of her husband, who passed away from pneumonia March 21, were taken to Montana to rest beside his wife.

Mr. English is survived by three daughters, Anna Peterson, Mae Costello and Helen Tupper; also by one sister, Mrs. M. Voaklander of San Gabriel, California.

Virginia M. Esse, 82, of Austin died Tuesday, June 22, at the Austin Medical Center.

Virginia Maxine Esse was born Nov. 22, 1927, in Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Clayton and Beulah (Smalley) Jenkins. She graduated from Austin High School and was married to Laverne W. Esse on June 5, 1948, at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church parsonage in Austin. Virginia returned to college and graduated from Winona State University. For many years, she taught in the language arts department of the Elkton and Southland Public Schools.

She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and The Sons of Norway. She was an active supporter of Habitat for Humanity and a member of a book club. Virginia was an avid reader, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and traveling. She had traveled throughout the United States as well as to Israel, Europe, Canada, Mexico and Australia.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Laverne; a son, Doug Esse; a sister, Marilyn Kramer; brothers-in-law, Dennis Kramer, John Esse, Harold Esse and George Espe.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Sam Boysen of Winona, Minn., Julie and Ralph “Chip” Frank of Grapevine, Texas; daughter-in-law, Ann Esse of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Espe of Hayfield, Minn., Charlene Esse of Bundaberg, Australia; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and at the church for one hour before the service on Saturday. The family prefers memorials to St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

ADAMS, Minn. — Joseph C. Koenigs, 93, of Adams, Minn., formerly of Meyer, Iowa, died Friday (March 20, 1998) at the Adams Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Adams, with the Rev. Gregory Leif officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meyer.

Joseph C. Koenigs was born Nov. 29, 1904, in Meyer, the son of Chrysandt and Anna (Schuller) Koenigs. He attended school in Meyer and farmed in the Meyer area until moving to Adams in 1979. He was married to Julia May on June 25, 1940, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Meyer. Joseph was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Adams, and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Koenigs, of Adams; daughters and soninlaw, Margaret and Bruce Eggenberger of Rochester, Minn., and Dorothy Koenigs of St. Louis Park, Minn.; sons, Herman Keonigs of Lyle, Minn., and Peter Koenigs of McIntire; nine grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Georgen of Adams, and Sister Cortona Koenigs of Dubuque; brother, Alois Koenigs of Stacyville; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Norma Tripp and Trudy Holmgren, one sister, and five brothers.

Has Passed Away

Mary C. Wilder, one of the oldest pioneers of Otranto Township, passed away very suddenly, May 24, 1931, at the old homestead in Old Otranto, Iowa.

Mary Catherine Van Camp was born May 12, 1842, at Minden, Montgomery County, New York. She was the daughter of J. C. and Catherine Van Camp. At the age of 2, she moved with her parents to Briar Hill, near Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence County, New York, where she spent the happiest years of her childhood. After 7 years in this place, her family moved to Ft. Plain, New York, where they resided for a short while before coming to Iowa in 1858. Here her parents settled at Otranto in Mitchell County.

She was married to Frank R. Wilder, February 13, 1861. To this happy union were born eight children.

Mrs. Wilder was preceded to the great unknown by her husband, September 19, 1921, a daughter, Blanche I. Torgeson, January 30, 1923, and another daughter, Addie M., who died in infancy.

Six children survive, Kate, E. Zoller, of Brooksville, Florida; Frank E., Caroline M., Ivan D., Mabel I., and Elmer L., all of Otranto. There are also sixteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Two brothers, A. Z. Van Camp of Otranto; and J. F. Van Camp of Silverton, Oregon, also survive her.

Her long life was one of devotion to her family and the influence of her sterling qualities will survive in an ever widening circle.

Funeral services were held at the home in Old Otranto, Friday afternoon, May 29, Reverend Frank Miller, of Osage, officiating. Interment was made at Woodbury.

John Wayne Lysne, age 79, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Friday, June 25, 2010 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

John was born June 21, 1931 in Austin to John and Madelyn (Paulson) Lysne. He graduated from Austin High School and then Dunwoody Institute. John served in the United States Air Force and was a sheet metal worker. On June 14, 1958 he was united in marriage to Gloria Sharrow Kinny in Austin.

John enjoyed woodworking, gardening, walking daily, watching westerns, entertaining children, socializing at McDonalds and volunteering at church. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife Gloria Lysne, Austin, Minnesota; two children, John M. (Vicky) Lysne, Owatonna, Minnesota; Tina M. Johnson, Austin; four step children: Rodney (Dee) Kinny, Austin, John (Judy) Kinny, Burnsville, Minnesota, Yvonne (Gary) Schmit, Austin, Randy (Lori) Kinny, Wisconsin; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; three brothers: Brian (Donna) Boettcher, Mankato, Minnesota, Gary Boettcher, Wisconsin, Mike Boettcher, Austin; and a sister, Kristi (Richard) Tracy, Austin.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John Lysne and Madelyn Boettcher; brothers, David and Harlan Lysne.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, June 28, 2010 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home. Military rites will be by American Legion Post #91.

The casket bearers will be John’s family.

Vernon C. Johnson, 89, of Rose Creek, Minnesota, formerly of Minooka, Illinois, died Thursday, June 25, 2010, at the Adams Health Care Center, Adams, Minnesota.

Vernon C. Johnson was born in Kendall County, Illinois, on January 18, 1921, to Samuel and Alma (Olson) Johnson. He married Anna Henry on April 18, 1942. After serving in World War II, he managed Minooka Grain, Lumber and Supply in Minooka.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Alma Johnson; and his siblings, Alfred Johnson, Ardella Johnson and Ervin Johnson

Vernon is survived by his wife, Anna Johnson of Rose Creek; daughter, Sandy (Larry) Yunker of Rose Creek; son, Terry (Jill) Johnson of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, Trey (Alyssa) Marlow of Morris, Illinois, Jennifer (Kevin) Chose of Rose Creek, Josh (Emily) Marlow of Minooka, Andy Johnson of Tucson, Carrie Johnson of Tucson; great-grandchildren, Ryan Marlow, Morgan Marlow, McKenzie Marlow, Cecilia Marlow and Cash Marlow; sister-in-law, Dorothy Johnson of Lisbon Center, Illinois.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Minooka Bible Church with Pastor Dave Jenkowski officiating. Burial will be at Plattville Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may greet the family for one hour before the service at the church.

Mabel I. (Lonergan) Lang, 97, was born on August 2, 1912 near Austin, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Frank and Lillian Nelson Lonergan and attended school in a one-room school house in Mower County, Minnesota.

After meeting him at a dance, Mabel married Horace “Hod” Lang on August 24, 1930 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Hod passed away on May 26, 1971.

Mabel was a homemaker for most of her life. Later in life, she worked in the cafeteria at West High School for sixteen years and made Wahawk Cookies. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, playing 500, dancing to Big Band music and was an avid bingo player. She especially enjoyed entertaining her family at Thanksgiving. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles where she played in the kazoo band and volunteered in the kitchen.

Mabel passed away on Monday, January 18, 2010 while a resident at the Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Mary Voshell, Mildred Schulz and Margaret Kindschuh; a brother, Merlyn “Gene” Lonergan and a grandson, Craig Terry. Mabel is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Gene) Terry of Waterloo; a son, Jerry (Bernie) Lang of Denver, Iowa; four granddaughters, Renae Terry of Waterloo, Brenda Alberts of Marion, Shelley (Bob) Doenhoefer of Lawton, Iowa and Terri (Rich) Somsky of Kissimmee, Florida; five great-grandchildren and two brothers, Marvin (Marilyn) Lonergan of Charles City and Melbourne “Bud” Lonergan of Waterloo, Iowa.

As a show of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice.

Muriel MacKay Arney, former longtime resident of Austin, passed away on June 25, 2010.

She grew up in Minneapolis, where she lived near Lake Harriet and loved to swim, canoe, and play tennis. She attended Carleton College where she met her future husband, Dick Arney, who preceded her in death in 2001.

She lived in Austin for more than 30 years where she was a homemaker and an active volunteer in the community. She was a gray lady, a girl scout leader, a boy scout leader, active in the American Field Service, hosting a student from Switzerland, and a Sunday school teacher at the First Congregational Church. She liked to grow roses, play bridge, read and cook for her family and friends. Her specialties were ginger cream cookies, lemon cookies and her holiday corn recipe.

She moved to Chicago with her husband in 1967 where she enjoyed going to the museums, to the theater and walking on the beach of Lake Michigan. She continued her volunteer activities by working in a children's literacy program.

She and her husband retired and moved to Pauma Valley, Calif., in 1973 where they lived for more than 25 years. She loved traveling, and she and her husband traveled in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. She moved to Colorado in 2004.

She is survived by her son, Richard Arney (Diane) of Orinda, Calif.; daughters, Natalie Williams (Earl) of Kingwood, Texas, Jan Arney (Tom Cimino) of Boulder, Colo.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Pauma Valley, Calif.

Frederick William Schaefer, 86, of Bloomington, Minn., passed away peacefully June 28, 2010, surrounded by his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Fred was born on October 18, 1923, in Adams, Minn. He was a World War II Army Veteran and longtime parishioner of Nativity of Mary Catholic Church. He enjoyed life and brought smiles to everyone who knew him through his sense of humor and thoughtfulness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Schaefer, and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bernice; children, Charles Schaefer, Steven (Barbara) Schaefer, Patricia (Christopher) Conroy and Pamela (Steven) Otteson; grandchildren, Jennifer, Patrick, Christina (Bernard Bartos), Kalyn, Stefanie and Kimberly; great-grandson, Colin; five brothers; four sisters; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Colony at Eden Prairie for their support and care throughout the journey.

A mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2010, at the Church of the Nativity of Mary, 9900 Lyndale Ave. S., Bloomington. Visitation is Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gill Brothers Funeral Chapel, 9947 Lyndale Ave. S. and one hour prior to mass at church. Interment is at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

If desired, memorials may be directed to the family to be donated in Frederick’s memory.

Paul A. Brendemuehl, 77, passed away June 17, 20I0, at his home in rural Sargeant, Minn.

Paul Adolph Brendemuehl was born on April 23, 1933, to Adolph and Helen (Oehlke) Brendemuehl, in Prescott, Wis. He attended and graduated from Dist. 45, Denmark Township, and the School of Ag., St Paul Campus.

Paul farmed with his parents and made many trips to local farmers markets and city restaurants delivering his farm fresh eggs.

After his parents passed away, he moved to Hartland, Minn. He farmed there until 1986 when he moved to Sargeant. There, he made his living trucking livestock for the many producers in the area. He made many special and life-long friends of his trucking clients.

Paul is survived by his three nephews, Craig (Mary) Vangsness, Arden (Trudy) Vangsness and Eldon Vangsness, all of Kenyon; niece, Marlis (Jon) Stehr of Zumbrota; brother-in-law, Leverne (Pat) Vangsness of Faribault; six great-nephews Mat Terwilliger, Troy, Ian, and Robert Vangsness, Grady and Flinton Stehr, three great nieces Katie (Mike) Block, Sarah Vangsness and Nikki Stehr and one great-great-nephew, Ryan Block.

He was preceeded in death by his parents; his sister, LaVerne Vangsness; and nephew, Brian Vangsness.

A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, July 1, at Evanger Lutheran of rural Sargeant with Rev. Paul Hauschild officiating.

Arrangements are being made by the Clasen-Jordan Funeral Home of Austin.
