Marilyn Jean (Hoerter) Hogan 1936-2011
Marilyn Jean (Hoerter) Hogan, 74, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday,
June 18, 2011, at the Austin Medical Center after a year-long battle with
Alpha 1 lung disease.
Marilyn was born July 25, 1936, in Stacyville, Iowa, to Edward and
Wilhelmina (Meyer) Hoerter. She was an only child. She attended Queen of
Angels grade school and graduated from St. Augustine High School in June
1954. On Jan. 21, 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, John Hogan
in New York. The couple lived in Austin where Marilyn was a legal secretary
for the Bang, Nierengarten and Hoversten, a secretary to Dr. B.J. Cronwell
for many years and secretary at Queen of Angels Rectory. Marilyn also worked
at Bushaw Bakery.
John and Marilyn had five children, Chris, Kathy, Patrick, Timothy and
Sheila. They lost Timothy on Nov. 29, 1965, and it was devastating to them.
Marilyn then lost her true love, her husband, John, on Oct. 4, 1995. Marilyn
then met John Lysne, and they were good companions. They traveled, played
cards, danced and enjoyed each other’s company. Marilyn enjoyed her card
club, dog races, traveling to Ireland, knitting, dancing, gambling, but
her most important activity was her family. She loved her children and
grandchildren.
Marilyn was a constant in our family, and she will be deeply missed.
May the road rise up to meet you, Mom.
Survivors include four children, Chris (Mary) Hogan of Austin, Kathy
Hogan of Rochester, Patrick Hogan of Boston, Mass., Sheila (Gary) Nipp of
Austin; six grandchildren, Matthew (Stefana) Davis, Michael (Dana) Davis,
Jackie Hogan, Serathia Nipp, Austin Nipp, Jade Hogan; two great-grandchildren,
Matthew J. Davis and Mia Davis.
She is preceded in death by her parents; infant son; husband; and special
friend.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Mayer Funeral
Home with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Friends may call one hour before
the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Friday. Interment will be in Calvary
Cemetery. The honorary casket bearers will be Matthew T. Davis, Matthew J.
Davis, Michael Davis, Austin Nipp, Izak Nipp, Bob Blake, Garth Seavey, John
Murach.

Ralph E. Wilson, 791931-2011
Ralph E. Wilson, 79, of Austin, Minnesota, died at Fieldcrest Care Center
in Hayfield Wednesday, June 15, 2011.
He was born on August 15, 1931, to George and Mabel (Hanson) Wilson in
Austin, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended public schools. He joined
the Air Force on October 18, 1951, and served in England for three years.
Ralph was honorably discharged on October 17, 1955, as an Airman Second
Class. He was employed by Lang Construction and Heimsness Brothers Masonry.
A lifelong Austin resident, he was a history buff and enjoyed watching sports
and old movies.
Survivors include his sister, Delores Heimsness of Austin; brother, Fred
(June) Wilson of Woodbury; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He
was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at Worlein
Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Interment
is at Grandview Cemetery in Austin with military rites by American Legion
Post 91 and VFW Post 1216. Condolences may be expressed to the family online

Robert Walter Borchardt1922-2011
#1:
Robert “Bob” Walter Borchardt, a 60 year resident of Austin, passed away
at the Adams
Health Care Center on May 24, 2011.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 17, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary.
There will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
Interment will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery 12:45 p.m. Monday,
June 20.

Robert "Bob" Walter Borchardt, a 60-year resident of Austin, Minn., passed
away at the Adams Health Care Center on May 24, 2011 after a three-month stay
there.
He was born April 3, 1922, at Edgar, Wisconsin, to Martin and Gertrude
(Arndt) Borchardt. His father Martin, passed away in 1931 and his mother
Gertrude in 1978.
He attended grade school in Edgar, Wisconsin, and in 1933 moved to
Wausau, Wisconsin, where he graduated in 1940 from Wausau High School. After
graduating from the two-year teacher training college there, he taught in a
one-room rural school in the Wausau area.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in the South Pacific
until honorably discharged as a 1st Lt. in 1946. On his return to the states,
he attended the Minnesota School of Business and traveled the upper Midwest
as a credit investigator. In 1949 he started working at the Hormel Company
in Austin as a guard and transportation foreman. He formerly owned the Austin
Liquor Store and was a partner in several hog farms. He later worked for 18
years as St. Olaf Church custodian.
He married Katherine L. Jensen in Cedar Falls, Iowa in January 1950. She
passed away on August 30, 1999, from cancer.
Robert was Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star, Past Master of the
Masonic Lodge, member of the Austin Shriners Oriental Band, American Legion,
several community and business committees, lifetime member of Elks, Osman
Temple and Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by brother Howard (Janet) Borchardt of Austin and
brother-in-law Dr. James (Darlene) Jensen of Okoboji, Iowa, several nieces
and nephews and very special friend and caregiver, Betty Rabine.
Interment will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery Columbarium
along with his beloved Katherine on Monday, June 20, 2011, at 12:45 p.m.
Visitation will be Friday evening, June 17 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at
Clasen-Jordan Mortuary.
Friends and family are encouraged to attend the Masonic service there at
7:00 p.m.

Kenneth E. Bowe 1913-2011
Kenneth E. Bowe, 98, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, June 10, 2011,
at Prairie Meadow in Kasson. Ken was born March 22, 1913, in Owatonna to
Byron and Olive Bowe. He graduated from Owatonna High School and was married
to Hermia Boysen on June 5, 1937. Ken was employed at the Hormel for 44 years.
Ken enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and time spent at
the cabin on Lake Tetonka in Waterville.
Survivors include three children, Ronald (Audrey) Bowe, Milaca, Dennis
K. (Sherrie) Bowe, Rochester, Cindy (Oren) Hermel, Wausau, WI; eight
grandchildren, Sheryl (Gregg) Olson, Steven (Denise) Bowe, Keith Bowe,
Karen (Mark) LaDuke, Lorrie (Ted) Alberts, Kory (Holly) Bowe, Nichol (Marc
Puyleart) Hermel, Natalie (Corey) Pomranke; 16 great grandchildren; three
great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Gladys Allas, Myrtle Bowe, Nellie
Boysen; special friends, Dan and Linda Armagost, Bridget Bowe, Toni Nelson,
Virtus and Shirley Ramundt.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Hermia; his
brothers, Harold and Stanley Bowe.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at
Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Jeff Forbes officiating. Friends may call
one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in
Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Mayer Funeral Home.

Judith Elaine “Judy” Hansen1946-2011
A Memorial Mass for Judith E. Hansen will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June
24, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Rochester, Minnesota. Mass
will be officiated by Rev. Timothy Reker. At a later date, burial will be in
Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.
Judith, 65, of Rochester, died June 18, 2011, at her sister’s home in
Austin, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born Judith Elaine Hansen Jan. 18, 1946, in Austin, Minnesota, to Virtus
and Colette (Heimer) Hansen, she was raised in Austin and graduated from
Pacelli High school. Judith was a registered nurse and worked for Mayo
Clinic in Rochester for more than 40 years during which time she received a
Master’s Degree in Nursing. She worked in the Peri Anesthesia Care Unit as
a nursing education specialist. The most rewarding part of Judith’s life was
her son, daughter-in-law, and her three grandchildren. She especially enjoyed
the time she spent with family, friends, and associates going on outings,
family get-togethers, trips and many other shared activities. Her favorite
pastimes included travel, shopping, and gardening.
Judith is survived by a son, Jason Hansen; daughter-in-law, Tracy
(Hackbarth) Hansen and their children, Alix, Tyler, and Jonah all of
Rochester; sisters, Marilyn (Don Hennager) Berg, of Austin; sister Dorothy
(Franciscan Sisters Rochester, MN) Hansen, and Linda (Dennis McNally) Marsh
of Austin; brothers, Richard (Veronica) Hansen of Austin, Duane (Darleen)
Hansen of Rochester, and Donald Hansen of Rockford, Ill., and numerous
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at Macken Funeral
Home River Park Chapel in Rochester. A time to share and remember will take
place at 7 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the
church on Friday, June 24. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to

Betty Lou (Bosma) Bure 1931-2002

BETTY LOU BURE
AUSTIN, MINNESOTA - Betty Lou Bure, 71, of Austin, died Saturday (June
15, 2002) at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.
She was born March 22, 1931, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Thomas and Grace
(Akkerman) Bosma Jr. She attended country school near her home and graduated
from Buffalo Center High School in 1949.
After graduation, Betty and her close friend Louise Nelson-Groe moved to
Phoenix, Ariz., where they worked in the hospitality field. They later moved
to Albert Lea, Minn., where Betty worked at the Home Café.
On February 4, 1955, she was united in marriage to Carl O. Bure in Albert
Lea. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Albert Lea for a
short time before moving to Austin, Minn.
Betty worked part-time doing local surveys for the James Gallup Company.
They enjoyed traveling, spending several winters in Bullhead City, Ariz. Mr.
Bure died on February 25, 1998.
In June of 2001, Betty moved to St. Mark's Lutheran Home. Betty was a
member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing golf.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Lee Bure and his special friend, Lisa
Murphy, of St. Paul, Minn.; her mother, Grace Bosma, of the Timely Mission
Nursing Home in Buffalo Center, Iowa; three brothers, Thomas "Ray" (Juanita)
Bosma of Buffalo Center, Iowa, Gary (Cindy) Bosma of Hutchinson, Minn., and
Larry (Linda) Bosma of Mansfield, Texas; life-long friend, Louise Nelson-Groe
of Albert Lea, Minn.; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and
friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her father and husband.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Olaf Lutheran
Church in Austin with the Rev. Russ Wangen officiating. There will be no
visitation or reviewal. Interment is at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Grandview
Cemetery, Austin..

Sally Ann Marie (Buchanan) Magnuson1943-2011
Sally Ann Marie Magnuson, 67, of Austin died Wednesday June 15, 2011, at
St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Sally was born Sept. 6, 1943, in Austin, Minn., daughter of Duane and
Violet (Smith) Buchanan. She attended Austin public schools and graduated
from Austin High School in 1961. Following graduation she worked at Jostens
in Owatonna. On Aug. 24, 1963, she married Burton Magnuson of Austin at
Westminister Presbyterian Church. They farmed together in the Austin area
and raised two daughters. After raising her daughters, Sally worked in
retail and hospitality, and most recently as a receptionist and bookkeeper
for MHF, Inc, of Austin. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
As a noted excellent cook, she enjoyed cooking and baking for family and
friends, sewing, crocheting and craft making. One of Sally’s greatest joys
was being a grandmother to her four grandchildren. She also was the primary
care giver for her now deceased father during his illness and her mother,
who survives her.
She is survived by her husband, Burton Magnuson of Austin; daughters,
Kelly Magnuson (Matthew Bruns) of Carlisle, Mass., and Melissa Magnuson
(Andreas Stahly) of Londonderry, N.H.; grandson, Noah Magnuson Bruns; three
granddaughters, Emma, Elise and Eva Stahly; mother, Violet Buchanan of
Austin; two brothers, Duane Jr. Buchanan of Livermore, Colo., and Robert
Buchanan of Rochester; two sisters, Penny (Wayne) Buchanan-Elsner of
Sheboygan, Wis., and Rosemary (David) Lestrud of Loveland, Colo.; many
nephews, nieces, cousins and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Duane Buchanan of Oakland and
close friend and cousin, Bonnie Lenz of Rochester.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Westminster
Presbyterian Church in Austin with The Rev. Dr. Andrew Lindahl officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 17, at Worlein Funeral
Home in Austin. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Moscow. In

Richard “Dick” Arnold 1934-2011
Richard “Dick” Arnold, 76, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, passed away
peacefully on June 18 after a short battle with cancer.
He was born July 6, 1934, in Austin, Minn., to parents Ray and Wanda
Arnold. He grew up in Austin and attended Austin High School. After high
school, he served in the Navy, where one of his responsibilities was
navigating onboard a blimp, and he served during the Korean War. On July
17, 1954, he married the love of his life, Donna May Sheetz. They were
married for 54 wonderful years before she passed away in 2008. Locally, he
worked at Hormel for many years and served as the president for the local
P-9. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks Club and the Eagles Club.
After retiring, Dick and Donna wintered in Sunrise, Fla., and summered in
Lake City, Minn. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, boating, walking on the
beach and spending time with his family and friends. He was a kind, loving,
gentle and humorous man.
He spent his last few months of life in home hospice care surrounded by
all those who loved him; his three children, Debra (Kendall) Klaehn of
Adams, Minn., Becky (Tom) Harris of Byron, Minn., Scott (Dale McBurney)
Arnold of Pompano Beach, Fla.; his dear friend Joan Hoffman of Sunrise,
Fla.; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry
Arnold of Banning, Calif., and Don (Jeannie) Arnold of Austin and many
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Donna; parents, Ray and Wanda;
two brothers, Deryl Arnold and Robert Arnold. He will be greatly missed
by all.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011, at
St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Rev. Kristi Koppel and Pastor Carol Shaffer
officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on
Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials honoring him to

Orion Elliot Vela2011-2011
Orion Elliot Vela, infant son of Casandra Rodriguez and Tony Vela, died
Sunday, June 19, 2011, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
He was born Friday, June 17, 2011, in Austin and was transferred to St.
Marys Hospital shortly after.
Orion is survived by his parents, Casandra Rodriguez and Tony Vela of
Austin; sister, Ayana Vela of Laredo, Texas; maternal grandfather, Jose
Rodriguez and maternal grandmother, Diana (Rocky) Padilla, all of Austin;
paternal grandmother, Blanca E. Vela of Austin and paternal grandfather
Adrian Vela of Salt Lake City, Utah; maternal great-grandmother, Maria
Trevino of Austin; paternal great-grandmother Mona Vela of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandfather, Frank
Trevino.
Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at St.
Columbanus Catholic Cemetery in Blooming Prairie with Father William
Kulas officiating. Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home is in charge

Ardis Leetha (Larson) Herr1925-2011
Ardis Herr, 86, of Austin, Minnesota, and formerly of rural Brownsdale,
died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Our House Senior Living in Austin.
Ardis Leetha Larson was born January 29, 1925, on a farm between Lyle
and Rose Creek, the sixth of eight children born to Ole Theodore and Sophie
Henrietta (Nelson) Larson. She was baptized April 12, 1925, by Rev. C.S.
Vang of Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church, Lyle. Ardis attended grades 1-6 at
country school 104 Rose Creek. Her family moved to a farm north of Adams
when Ardis was about 11. She was confirmed May 14, 1939, by Rev. Alfred
Breivik, pastor of Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams. Ardis received a
certificate of recognition for four years of high school bible work at the
Adams Lutheran Weekday School on May 31, 1942, by Lucia Iverson and Rev.
Breivik. Following graduation from Adams High School on May 28, 1942, Ardis
moved to Austin and worked at the Sweet Shop and George A. Hormel Company.
On June 8, 1945, Ardis was married to Howard Bud Herr at St. Olaf Lutheran
Church in Austin by Rev. A. L. Swenson. They made their home on a farm north
of Brownsdale, where Ardis stayed busy caring for their seven children,
raising a large garden and helping her husband. She belonged to the
Brownsdale United Methodist Church and was active in circle and taught
Sunday School. Ardis enjoyed Mother’s Club, the Parent Teacher Association
and 4-H.
After Howard entered the rest home January 12, 2001, Ardis moved to
Austin November 3, 2001. She faithfully visited Howard until his death
April 27, 2003. Though Ardis missed the farm life, she was determined to
enjoy her new home. Particularly special to her were family gatherings with
her children, their families and her siblings and their spouses. Ardis
enjoyed reading, puzzles, gardening, canning, cooking and baking for her
family. In her early 80s, she enjoyed a hot air balloon ride and a trip
through eight countries in Europe.
Survivors include two sons, James (Renae) of Emmons, and Fred (Sue) of
Waltham; five daughters, Patricia (James) Bronner of Winona, Linda (Stanley)
Whitney of Mapleton, Randee (Ronald) White of Waseca, Carol (Michael)
Hodnefield of Austin, and Cheryl (Steven) Funk of McCook Lake, S.D.; 17
grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nine
step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one on the
way; one step-great-great-grandchild; two brothers; Curtis (Daisy) Larson
of Austin and Loris (Dorothy) Larson of Austin; sisters-in-law, Myrtle
Larson of Burnsville and Evelyn Herr of Hayfield; many nieces; nephews
and cousins.
Ardis was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Otto
Larson, Nomer Larson and Ober Larson; sisters, Shirley Tucker and Verla
Thompson; brothers-in-law Leonard, Tucker, Douglas Thompson and Herbert
Herr.
Funeral services for Ardis will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at
Brownsdale United Methodist Church, 100 Pleasant Street SE Brownsdale, MN,
with Rev. Sharon Goetzinger officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakwood
Cemetery in Austin, MN. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday, June 22, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 302 Market
Street in Brownsdale and one hour prior to the service at the church on
Thursday.
The family of Ardis extends a heartfelt and sincere Thank You to the
staff at Our House Senior Living and Austin Medical Center for the loving
care given to mom during her stay. Czaplewski Family Funeral Home assisted
the family with arrangements. Blessed be her memory.

Maria (Svenson) Olson 1832-1916
MRS. TOLLEF OLSON
Mrs. Olson, whose maiden name was Maria Svenson, was born in West Toten,
Norway, on the 10th of August 1832. She was married to Mr. Tollef Olson in
1857. They emigrated to America in 1867 and settled in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
Here they lived for three years, and in 1870 they moved to Grand Meadow
where they have lived since. Mr. Olson died in 1905.
She has been the mother of twelve children of which five have passed
away. Of the seven now living, six were present at the funeral: Mrs. Ole
Finhart, T.T. Olson, S.J. Olson, Ole T. Olson and Mrs. P.A. Anderson of
Clayton, and Mrs. Lundquist of St. Paul. Mrs. Graef of Seattle was not able
to be present.
Mrs. Olson was, as a rule, quite strong and able to be around. On the
Sunday before her death she attended services in her church and partook of
the communion, but on coming home, she complained of a bad headache. She
became very sick in the evening and on Tuesday morning, October 3, 1916,
she passed away. The cause of her death was hemmorrhage of the brain.
She reached the age of 84 years, one month and 23 days.
Funeral was held on Friday, October 6, with devotional services at the
house at two o'clock and services at the Bear Creek Church. Interment was
made in the Bear Creek Cemetery, Rev. Jahren officiating -- Grand Meadow
Record.

Russel W. Robinson 1916-2011
Russel W. Robinson, 94, died on Saturday, June 18, 2011.
He was born November 30, 1916, in Minneapolis. He graduated from Washburn
High School and received a bachelor’s degree in English from the University
of Minnesota. Russ served in the United States Army during World War II and
was awarded the Bronze Star. He married Marian Robinson (nee Baudler) in
Austin on June 26, 1948. Russ and Marian lived in Paris, France, and
Heidelberg, Germany, for the first seven years of their marriage. While
living in Heidelberg, Russ worked as the editor of the U.S. Army medical
bulletin.
Russ was the secretary of the Austin Credit Bureau. He was a member of
the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce. Russ served as chair for the Mower
County DFL. He was one of the founders of the Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship of Austin. Most recently he served as treasurer for the Mower
County Veterans Memorial committee. Russ enjoyed art, literature and music,
particularly opera. During their 50 years of marriage Russ and Marian
traveled all over the globe.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Robert Seestadt,
Minneapolis; son and daughter-in-law, Ward and Lisa Robinson, Austin; five
grandchildren, Helen Seestadt (Greg Pitcher), Jean Seestadt, Ann Seestadt,
Vanessa Robinson, Zachary Robinson; four great-grandchildren; and brother
and sister-in-law, Jim and Bev Phillips, Edina, Minn. Preceded in death by
his wife, Marian Robinson; father, Ralph Robinson; mother, Molly Robinson
Phillips; stepfather, Ray Phillips; and sister, Donna Schiebe.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2011,
at Mayer Funeral Home, with Rev. Pam Amdahl officiating. Friends may call
a half-hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Tuesday.
The family prefers memorials to The Planetary Society or KSMQ Public
Television.

June (Somers) Deblon, 85 1926-2011
Surrounded by her loving family, June Deblon, 85, of Brainerd, passed
away to become united again with her husband William on Saturday, June 18,
2011.
June lived her life dedicated to her family and to her career as a
registered nurse in Austin, Minn. June treasured the time she shared with
her children and grandchildren. They not only were her family, but her
friends. June was an avid Twins fan and enjoyed watching the Minnesota
Vikings.
June began her life in Watertown, S.D., on April 10, 1926, the daughter
of Louden and Winifred (Basford) Somers. She was raised on a farm, graduated
from Watertown High School and Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S.D.,
where she obtained her degree in nursing.
June will always be remembered by her children, Mary (Terry) McCollough
of East Gull Lake, William (Diane) Deblon of Pillager and Theresa (Michael)
Petersen of Oak Creek, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and
her half-brother, Jim (Karyl) Somers, of Watertown, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; daughter, Franny;
son, Tony; brother, Bill and her parents.

Guldbran Torsten Morstad1817-1916
GULDBRAN TORSTEN MORSTAD
Guldbran Torsten Morstad, one of the oldest settlers of the county,
passed away at the home of his son, Torsten, in Nevada Township last Friday,
October 6, 1916. Besides being an old resident of the county, he was, at
the time of his death, conceded to be the oldest person living in this
section, having commenced the last year before reaching the century mark.
Until a few days before his death he was able to be about the place in his
usual health, and retained his faculties remarkably well.
The deceased was born on July 6, 1817, in Dable, Slire, Norway, where he
spent his boyhood. In 1842 he was married to Miss Anna Knudsdatter Kjoli.
This union was blessed with nine children, three of whom are living. Mr.
Morstad left his native land in 1868 and came directly to Mower county. He
settled at Adams where he remained for one year and then moved unto the
homestead in Nevada Township, where he continued to reside until his death.
The deceased is survived by three children. They are Mrs. E. Bagstad of
Roseau, Minnesota, Knut of Fordsville, N.C., and Torsten of the home place,
also 40 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon in Six Miles Grove Church, and
interment was made in the church cemetery. It is thought that he was the
oldest person ever buried in that cemetery.
A large number of friends and relatives from this vicinity and also from

Andrew W. Lamb, 681943-2011
#1:
Andrew was born April 23, 1943, in Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, the
son of Arthur and Hazel (Warrens Weber) Lamb. He graduated from Austin High
School and served in the Army. Following his period of enlistment, Andy
returned to Minnesota where he was married and lived in the Kenyon area. He
later divorced and moved to the southern states where he worked selling
antiques and traveling to exhibits at shows and flea markets. He moved back
to Minnesota and lived in St. Cloud until 2007, when he moved to Kasson where
he was able to live near his son’s family.
Andrew enjoyed spending time with his family and telling stories. He
also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino. Over the years, he developed
his talents as an artist and made drawings of children at the churches he
attended in Kasson and Dodge Center. He also did a number of drawings of
eagles after viewing the “eagle cam” this past winter while he observed the
hatch and development of the eagle chicks in north Iowa.
Andrew was preceded in death by his mother and one brother.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law; David and Michelle Johnson
of Kasson, Minn., Rick and Tarah Johnson of St. Paul; grandchildren, Tyler
and Allison Johnson of Kasson; father and stepmother, Arthur and Grace Lamb
of Brownsdale, Minn.; stepsisters and stepbrothers, Linda (Dave) Christensen
of St. Cloud, Minn., Scott (Kari) Weber of Austin, Roy (Anne) Weber of Iowa,
Brenda (Kevin) Sabin of Austin, Alice (Charles) Marks of Austin, Mary (Bill)
Guggisberg of Freeborn, Minn., Charles (Pam) Lamb of Annandale, Danallia
(Lynn) Davis of Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, at the
Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Interment
will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will
be from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service.

Randy M. Lukes, 531958-2011
Randy M. Lukes, 53, of rural Austin, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, as the
result of an automobile accident south of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota.
He was born June 18, 1958, to Dean and Charlotte (Schewe) Lukes in Austin.
After graduation from Austin High School in 1976, Randy farmed south of
Austin. He married Mona Paczkowski on June 15, 1991, at Trondhjem Lutheran
Church, rural Austin. They had one son. A member of Trondhjem Lutheran
Church, Randy served on the Oakland Town Board. He and his son loved
motocross and enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting pool. Randy restored a
Chevy Malibu Laguna to perfection.
Survivors include his wife, Mona Lukes; son, Garrett Lukes; parents,
Charlotte and Dean Lukes, all of rural Austin; two sisters, Susan (Kelly)
Kaercher of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Darcy (Doran) Schroeder of Austin;
brother, Greg Lukes of rural Austin; nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Hayward
Lutheran Church in Hayward with Pastor Katie Fick officiating. Visitation
is two hours prior to the service at church. Interment is at London Cemetery.

Pearl T. (Thompson) Counts1923-2011
Pearl T. Counts, 88, of Solomons, Maryland, and formerly of Austin,
Minnesota, died June 28, 2011, after struggling with pneumonia.
Pearl was born June 28, 1923, in Austin, to Henry and Clara (Easton)
Thompson. On March 11, 1945, she married Horace “Dick” Counts. She worked
for the IRS for 33 years as an administrative assistant.
Pearl was an avid walker, golfer and bowler. Even at the age of 76, she
won highest game awards for two consecutive years in her bowling league and
was invited to participate int eh state championship. She was also a talented
seamstress.
She is survived by her son, Steven L. Counts of Collierville, Tenn.;
daughters, Kathleen M. Dixon of Mechanicsville, Md and Karen E. Evans of
Raleigh, N.C.; sister, Muriel Waton; brother, Marvin Thompson; six
grandchildren, Tage Counts (Diana), Nicole Counts Angle (Peter), Michael
Dixon (Coleman), Susan Dixon, Lynne Dixon and Jason de Nobel; five
great-grandchildren, Chase Counts, Kacey Counts, William Dixon-Lavergne,
Natalie Dixon and Caroline Dixon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; brother, Harmon Thompson;
sisters, Eleanor Kokowski and Coral Swank.
A celebration of Pearl’s life will be Saturday, July 2, at Mt. Zion
Methodist Church, Mechanicsville, Md., With Rev. Ann Strickler officiating.
Interment will be in Red Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery.

Arden D. Nelson, 801931-2011
Arden D. Nelson, 80, of Maple Grove, Minn., passed away June 26, 2011, at
North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minn.
Arden was born May 16, 1931, in Rose Creek, Minn., to Helmer and Ronelia
Nelson.
He is preceded in death by parents; brother, Dale; sisters-in-law, Elaine
and Mary Ann.
He is survived by wife, Diane; daughters, Cindy Nelson and Karen Senich
(Michael Sr.); son, Joel (Rosemary); grandchildren, Michael Jr., Alexander
and Guinevere; brothers, Merle and Roger (Barbara); nieces, nephews, cousins

Jon Thomas "Perlie" Perl, age 57, of Austin, died Friday, June 24, 2011 at
Methodist Hospital in Rochester of cancer.
Jon was born February 16, 1954 in Austin to Norman H. and Mildred S.
(Peterson) Perl. He attended Pacelli and Austin High Schools. Jon also
attended Southwest Community College in Mankato and received an Associate
Degree in Art. He enjoyed sketching, photography and creating beautiful
pieces of art out of rocks and stones.
Jon worked for the Rochester Post Bulletin and Schmidt Printing in
Rochester and Byron.
Survivors include his daughter, Dacia Bentzin, and four grandchildren,
Jace, A'Janary, Jaiyana, Jeriun. He also helped to raise Dena and Donia
Bentzin. Other survivors include his mother, Mildred Perl, Austin; brothers,
David, Austin, Michael (Ann), Manhatten, KS, Stephen, Mankato; sisters,
Carol Jean (Thomas) Krause, Normal, IL, Mary Jane Johnson, Austin; many
aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father.

1951, he married Iris Helebrant in Austin. She preceded him in death on
June 26, 2005.
Bob served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He was a member of St.
Olaf Lutheran Church, the American Legion and the Austin Senior Center.
He enjoyed reading, playing cards, golfing, time with friends and family,
and his cat, Willie.
Survivors include three children, Bobbe (Mike) Bartley of Brookings,
S.D., Todd (Jean) Lewis of Dothan, Ala., Cory Lewis of Rochester, Minn.;
eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Flaherty of
Austin.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents; son,
Terry Lewis; sisters, Betty Duffy and Dorothy Rideout.

Leroy Cornelius Van Proosdy, 77 1934-2011
Leroy Cornelius “Dutch” Van Proosdy, 77, died at his home in Austin,
Minnesota, on Monday morning, June 27, 2011.
He was born near Hollandale, Minnesota, on Jan. 2, 1934, the first of
three children, to Cornelius and Necia (Penney) Van Proosdy. Following
graduation from Albert Lea High School, Dutch attended Central College
in Pella, Iowa. He became a professional musician in 1950 and played tuba
in polka and dance bands in southern Minnesota. On Oct. 2, 1954, he married
Grace Wasmoen at Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea with Rev. A.R. Herbert
Johnson officiating. Dutch had numerous jobs, including auto mechanics,
welding, heavy machinery operation and construction. After drafting school
in 1968, he worked for 24 years at Geo. A. Hormel & Company in the
mechanical division.
After retirement, he pursued interests in music, sports and a love for
the outdoors, especially the joy he found at the cabin he built near Aitkin,
Minn. Along with being a member of the River Oaks Golf Club, Dutch was the
founder of LDGA, a league for avid golfers in the area. An active member of
St. John’s Lutheran Church, he served as choir director. He was involved
with the Northwestern Singers for nearly 40 years and was president of the
Lions Club. He also enjoyed playing cards at the Elks and Senior Center.
Dutch was a fun-loving man who enjoyed being with friends and family and
looked forward to being in heaven with Jesus.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Grace of Austin; five children,
John (Janet) of Rochester, James (Lisa) of Kansas City, Mo., Peter (Teresa)
of Austin, Mary (Thomas) Franz of Bloomington, Martha Miller of Bloomington;
brothers, Kenneth Van Proosdy of Longmont, Colo., Richard (Joyce) of
Longmont, Colo.; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Aaron and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 1, at St. John’s
Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Thomas Ogilvie officiating. Friends

Ardel James Gorman, 71 1939-2011
Ardel James Gorman, 71, of Austin, died Friday, June 24, 2011, at Sacred
Heart Care Center.
Ardel was born July 28, 1939, in Austin to Gerald and Rosalia (Elsbernd)
Gorman. On May 12, 1962, he was united in marriage to Yvonne Valley at St.
Augustine Church in St. Cloud, Minn. Ardel served in the United States
Navy. He worked at Hormel, Minn., Valley Engineering in New Prague, and
Cybex in Owatonna. Ardel was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church,
Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Catholic United Financial, Boy Scouts
of America Troop 113, Minnesota Canoe Association and was the founder of the
Desert Chapter of the Minnesota Canoe Association and the P-9 United Support
Group.
He enjoyed canoeing, bicycling, camping, being outdoors and time with
family, especially doing activities grandchildren. Ardel enjoyed coffee and
conversation with his friends of the P-9 United Support Group.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne of Austin; children, Kenneth (Sheryl)
Gorman of Austin, Michael (Kathy) Gorman of Rochester, Barbara (Timothy)
Trimble of Austin, Steven (Gail) Gorman of Davie, Fla.; 11 grandchildren;
siblings, Wayne (Darlene) Gorman of Austin, Anna May (Robert) Schneberger
of West Union, Iowa, Colette Schaefer of McIntire, Iowa, Mary Kay (Arnold)
Olson of Minneapolis; mother-in-law of Cyrilla Valley, St. Cloud.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at
St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will
be a 6:30 pm wake service on Wednesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends
may call from 4-7 pm and also one hour before the service at the church on
Thursday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by

Norma Jean (Fuller) Dalager-Erickson 1925-2011
Norma Jean Dalager-Erickson, 85, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota,
died Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin.
Norma was born November 4, 1925, to Walter DeLoss and Gladys Marie
(Rhodes) Fuller in Sebeka, Rockwood Township, Wadena County, Minnesota.
She married Lloyd Dalager on November 4, 1945, in Austin. To this
union six children were born. Lloyd passed away in 1965.
Norma married Palmer Erickson on June 17, 1967 ,at St. Olaf Lutheran
Church in Austin where they made their home. A member of St. Olaf Lutheran
Church where she volunteered for WELCA, Norma enjoyed sewing, cooking,
fishing, picnics and going up North in the summer.
Survivors include nine children, Mary Jo (Clarence) Liebfried, Rochester;
Ed (Dea) Erickson, Denver, Colo.; Gloria (Mark) Markkula, Hayward; John
(Bonnie) Dalager, Austin; Judy (Harry) Wangen, Hayward; Pam (Steve) Bjoraker,
Golden Valley; Paul (Misty) Erickson, Reno, Nev.; Cindy (Jack) Cottrell,
Oakland; Dan Dalager, Austin; 10 grandchildren: Melissa, Trisha, Jason,

Bernice Mae “Bonnie” (Day) Strouf 1915-2011
Bernice Mae “Bonnie” Strouf, 96, of Austin, died at St. Marks Lutheran
Home Wednesday June 22, 2011.
She was born June 7, 1915, to Arthur and Alta (Danley) Day in Brownsdale,
Minnesota, where she grew up and attended school. She then worked in the Kinsman
Greenhouse in Austin. She married Ladislav J. Strouf on Jan. 17, 1946, in
Osage, Iowa. They made their home on a farm northwest of Austin. Bonnie
loved raising flowers and gardening. She raised houseplants of all varieties
in her basement. A great cook, she also liked country western music. Bonnie
and Ladislav retired from farming in 1971 and moved into Austin. In her
senior years, she became an avid stamp collector. Ladislav died July 21,
2008.
Survivors include her son, James (Mary) Strouf of Austin; four
grandchildren; Kristen (Fred) Saurborn of Westminster, Md., Vanessa
Strouf of Austin, Adrian Strouf of Austin, Damon (Callie) Strouf of
McFarland, Wis.; nine grandchildren; sister, Betty Voigt of Austin;
other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ladislav; four
brothers; four sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at
Grandview Cemetery in Austin with Chaplain Pamela Solberg officiating.
There will be no visitation or reviewal. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin

Robert L. Dibble, 94 of Austin, Minnesota, died at Comforcare Good
Samaritan Center on Saturday, July 2, 2011.
Service: Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 7,
at Lansing United Methodist Church with the Reverend Leland Bissinger
officiating.
Visitation: Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Wednesday
from 5 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday for one hour before the
service.

Robert L. Dibble, 94, of Austin, Minnesota, died at Comforcare Good
Samaritan Center on Saturday, July 2, 2011.
Robert Leon Dibble was born June 16, 1917, in Austin, the son of Ralph
and Hazel (Wyant) Dibble. At age 2, he moved with his parents to a farm
north of Austin. He attended Ramsey and Lansing schools and graduated from
Austin High School in 1936. His marriage to Lois Rinner took place July 5,
1944, in Austin.
Robert farmed with his dad and for a number of years did custom work of
silo filling and corn picking for other farmers. He enjoyed traveling and
playing cribbage and 500. He was a member of the Lansing United Methodist
Church.
Robert is survived by his wife Lois Dibble, Austin; son and
daughter-in-law, Leon D. and Elaine Dibble of Owatonna; two grandsons,
Keith (Raquel) Dibble of Towner, N.D. and Timothy Dibble of Chicago, Ill.;
three great-grandchildren, Robert Dibble, Austin Dibble and Ashlyn Dibble.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, at the
Lansing United Methodist Church with the Rev. Leland Bissinger officiating.
Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m.
at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Wednesday and at the church on Thursday for
one hour before the service. Honorary bearers are Timothy Dibble, Keith
Dibble and Dennis Nelson. Casket bearers will be Brian Stemson, Morris
Klouse, Floyd Hansen, Kenneth Dalager, Harold Boverhuis, and Steven
Garbisch.

Olga Ryks, 96, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died at Samaritan Bethany
Heights on Friday, July 1, 2011, in Rochester, Minnesota, where she had
resided since 2008.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church
(1835 19th Avenue NW Rochester, MN) on Friday, July 8, with The Rev. Wesley
Gabel and The Reverend Jean Boese officiating. Lunch will be served following
the funeral service, and burial will take place at Grandview Cemetery in
Austin. Visitation will be at the church starting at 10 a.m. until the time
of the service.
Olga was born in Cuevas, Mississippi, on December 4, 1914, to Nicolaas
and Jantje (Modderman) Mooi. As a young girl, she came to Minnesota following
the death of her parents and was raised in Renville, Minn., by George and
Anna Stryker. She graduated from Renville High School in 1933. She married
Louie Ryks on October 9, 1937, in Austin, Minnesota.
She and her husband farmed south of Austin for many years until retiring
in 1975. Olga and her husband also worked for Wolds Drug Store in Austin.
Olga, a very giving person, was a foster parent for 28 children, and if you
stopped by to buy eggs on the farm, you probably would end up being invited
to stay for supper. After Louie died in September 1987, Olga volunteered as
a senior companion in Austin. She also enjoyed crocheting, baking, reading
and family gatherings. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Golden
Age, and a volunteer at the Burr Oak Nursing Home in Austin.
Olga is survived by a son, Elso L. Ryks (Marlene) of Albert Lea, Minn.;
daughter, Anna Mae Dingfelder of Rochester; seven grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary
Ortenblad of Hastings, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, brother and four
sisters.
Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Frank Wayne Dennison, Sr. 1942-2011
Frank Wayne Dennison Sr., 69, of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday, July 3,
2011, at his home.
Frank Wayne Dennison was born July 3, 1942 in Austin, to Fred E. and
LaVera A. (Vasey) Dennison. He grew up in Austin and began working at Elk
River Concrete Products. In 1972, he began working for the City of Austin
in the area of heavy equipment. On Aug. 31, 1979, Frank married Mary Bowe
at Crane Community Chapel. He retired from working for the city of Austin
in 2003. Frank enjoyed listening to country music and having his beer. He
liked fishing, camping, and enjoyed wildlife and being in the sunshine. He
loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary of Austin; children, Lon Oleson
of Colorado Springs, Colo., Bill Oleson (Pam) of Waseca, Katy Ashton (Scott)
of Austin, Robin Oleson (Dan) of Austin, Todd Dennison of New Ulm, Melissa
Root (Doug) of Austin, Steve (Kristy) Dennison of Minnesota City, Chad
Dennison (Amanda) of Owatonna, daughter-in-law, Dawn Dennison of Austin
and Laura (Bobby) Gladden of Austin, who was like a daughter; 30
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marilyn Clark of Austin,
Lorraine (Ron) Lusby of California; brother, Virgil Battin of Minneapolis;
many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Frank Jr.; brothers and
sisters.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2011, at Worlein Funeral
Home Chapel in Austin with Rev. Dale Christiansen officiating. Interment
will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Friends may call at Worlein Funeral
Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Kenneth Axel Soderberg, 83, of Austin, died Monday, July 4, 2011, at St.
Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Born September 24, 1927, to Axel and Evelyn (Peterson) Soderberg in
Minneapolis, Minn., Kenneth graduated from South High School and joined
the Marine Corps in 1945, earning the title of First Class. After his
discharge, Kenneth worked for WMUS in Muskegon, Mich., in April 1948. He
married Beverly DuFrayne on June 26, 1948. They relocated to Austin in
Sept. 1948 where Ken joined KAUS as a salesman, becoming sales manager
in 1951. He was promoted to vice president/general sales manager in 1954
and Vice President/General Manager in 1958. He hosted the Weather and
Outdoor Show from 1955-59. In October of 1969 he became General Manager
of KWEB AM/FM in Rochester. By 1973 he was General Sales Manager of KVRL-TV
in Houston, Texas. Kenneth returned to Austin in 1975 as general manager of
KAUS AM/FM and continued there until his retirement in 1998.
An active member of the business community and civic organizations, he
served on the Governor’s Commission on Human Rights from 1953–55. In 1958,
Kenneth was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Austin Junior
Chamber of Commerce as well as the Outstanding Young Man award that year
from the Eagle’s Club. He was Austin police commissioner from 1960-64, and
also served as MC for the Miss Minnesota Pageant for three years. An avid
golfer, Kenneth enjoyed the great outdoors, deer hunting and fishing. He
was nominated this year to be inducted into the Minnesota Broadcasters
Hall of Fame.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Austin; four sons, Dennis
Soderberg of Blaine; Scott Soderberg of Austin; Greg Soderberg of Austin;
Mark Soderberg of Danville, Ill.; two daughters, Vicki Kordusky of
Centerville; Kim Soderberg of Austin (Scott McFarland); six grandchildren;
nine great-grandchildren; brother, Jerome (Gwen) Soderberg of San Diego,
Calif.; sister, Katherine Roebuck of Panama City, Fla.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, July 9, 2011, at
Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with the Rev. Dr. Stephen DeFor
officiating. There will be no visitation or reviewal. Interment is at
Oakwood Cemetery in Austin with military rites by American Legion Post
91 and VFW Post 1216. The family prefers memorials to Mower County Humane

Verlie Mae Morris, 75, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday,
June 26, 2011, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine's Catholic Church
in Austin, at 11 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2011.
Family will begin greeting people at 9:30 a.m. at the church. There
will be a lunch at noon following the service. Memorials are preferred
to the family.

Larosa L. (Sabado) Bock, 631948-2011
The funeral service for Larosa L. Bock, of Burnsville, Minnesota, will
be 5 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. The Rev. Todd
Walsh will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service at
Bonnerup Funeral Service Chapel.
Larosa died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at Fairview Southdale Hospital Edina.
She was 63 years old.
Larosa was born March 17, 1948, in Austin, Minnesota, to Stanley and
Twylla (Logan) Sabado. She grew up in Albert Lea, and graduated from Albert
Lea High School in 1966. Larosa lived in Glenville and Albert Lea where she
enjoyed riding horses and farm life. Larosa received her associate degree
from Austin Community College in human service. She was a former Sunday
School teacher at First Lutheran Church, Glenville.
She was presently a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Larosa enjoyed
speaking at the Genetic Conference at Mayo on Huntington’s disease
for several years. Larosa also enjoyed fishing, animals and her dog
Bandit and cat Troubles. The last eight years she has resided at
Sonshine and Hope. A Group Home that specializes in Huntington clients.
Larosa is survived by her three children: Robert Bock Jr. and his wife
Chellie of Hudson, Wis., Michael Bock of Glenville and Sheila Garbers and
her husband Jason of Prior Lake; grandchildren: Bennett, Liliahna, Jack,
Michaela, Alex, Austin, Dylan, Jon, Carly; and nephews: Greg, Rick and Phil.
Larosa is preceded in death by her parents: Stanley and Twylla Sabado;
brothers: Clifford and Clement Emery; and niece, Penny.

Phillip Henricks c1951-2011
Phillip Henricks “Jazzy J,” 60, of Minneapolis. Our lives were forever
changed when on June 3, 2011, Phil lost his valiant three-year struggle with
cancer; he passed away peacefully at home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Thelma Henricks of
Austin, Minnesota, and his beloved brother, Herb of Rochester.
Phil is survived by his sons, Morgan and Jacob of Minneapolis; sister,
Mona Moede and husband John of Golden Valley and Palm Springs, Calif.; four
brothers, Ronald of Chester, Iowa, Thomas and wife Carmine of Marietta,
Georgia, Gerald and wife, Susan of Farmington, Theodore and wife, Kathy,
of Fairport, N.Y., and sister-in-law Christene Henricks of Rochester; a
host of aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins; and a treasured
group of friends from the “world of music” who helped him continuously over
the past three years. Phil was widely known within the Twin Cities community
as the founder of TwinCitiesRadio.net, which featured local talent through
live Internet radio.
Upon graduation from Austin High School in 1969, he pursued a career in
hotel management and was also a co-founder, developer and manager of chemical
dependency rehabilitation centers in Minnesota, Ohio and New Jersey. Upon
his return to Minnesota, in between fishing trips to Duluth, he attended
college and became certified as an information analyst and technician.
Phil’s involvement in the music industry resulted from his love of
music and the great pleasure he experienced when he spent his late
afternoons and evenings in Minneapolis uptown coffee houses where
he listened to local artists perform and enjoyed his favorite “cup
of java.” A service in tribute to Phil was held on Thursday, June
16, 2011, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel in south
Minneapolis.

Mary Aline (McAfee) Oihus1924-2011
Mary Aline Oihus, 86, of Austin, Minnesota, died at Prairie Manor Care
Center in Blooming Prairie Tuesday evening, July 5, 2011.
She was born December 3, 1924, to Alfred and Isabel McAfee in Oak Park,
Illinois. Mary grew up and attended school in Albert Lea. She married
Willard Oihus on in 1942 in Long Beach, Calif. They returned to Austin
where Mary worked at Hormel Foods Corp. for 35 years. She loved to read,
travel and spend time with family, especially the grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. She spent some summers near International Falls
where she enjoyed boating. Winters were spent in Arizona. She moved to
Prairie Manor in March of this year.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer (Davin) Johnson;
two great-grandchildren, Colby and Riley; brother, Alfred (Alice) McAfee of
St. Paul; nieces, Sue Elle and Betsy McAfee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard in 1995; a
son, Richard in 1964; daughter, Karen Linse in 2011; nephew, Mark McAfee.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at
Worlein Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Charles Leonard officiating.
Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Oakwood
Cemetery. The family prefers memorials to American Cancer Society.

Lee Francis Getchell, 62 1948-2011
Lee Francis Getchell, 62, of London, Minnesota. died Saturday, July 2,
2011 at his home.
Lee was born November 24, 1948 in Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, to
Harold and Clara (Peck) Getchell. He married Judy Ann Broitzman. She
preceded him in death on December 28, 1974.
Lee worked construction. He was a member of International Word Fellowship
and enjoyed motorcycle riding, fishing, camping, horse back riding, spending
time with family and friends, playing pool and cards, and he loved garage
sales.
Survivors include four daughters, Lori Teresi of London, Minn., Vicky
Getchell of Austin, Lana (Leslie) Barberette of Tennessee, Sally Getchell
and her daughter, Ruby of Tulsa, Okla.; eight grandchildren; siblings,
Donnie (Debbie) Getchell of Shakopee, Minn., Patty (Jeff) Olson of Cresco,
Iowa, Ted Getchell of Austin, Minn., Fritz Getchell of Texas.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father, Harold
Getchell; mother, Clara Getchell; brother, Jim Getchell; daughter, Terry
Ann Getchell.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at Austin
Christian Fellowship with Pastor Raymond Tuck officiating. Friends may

Urban John Hemann, 79 1932-2011
Urban John Hemann, 79, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, July 8, 2011,
in Lanesboro.
Urban was born on March 14, 1932, in Meyer, Iowa, to William and Christina
(Koenigs) Hemann. He grew up in Meyer and attended Sacred Heart Catholic
School. Urban left school to help on the family farm, and he worked for Bob
Dunnley outside of the family farm at the age of 15 for three years, until
he started work for Ed Moore, where he worked for 28 years, from 1951 to
1979.
On October 7, 1961, he was united in marriage to Delores Foxen in New
Haven, Iowa. In 1979, Urban began hobby farming. The couple moved to Austin
in 1990, and Urban worked at QPP for five years. He retired at age 64 and
enjoyed his hobby farm, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, polka music,
farm animals and helping his children.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Hemann; children, Susan (Renaldo)
Jones, Catherine Hemann Winsky (Ryan Helin), Thomas (Susan) Hemann, Michael
Hemann, Paul (Misti) Hemann, Kevin Hemann (Jolene Holty), all of Austin;
grandchildren, Robert and Michael Frost, Dustin and Vannessa Winsky, Zack,
Chris and Heather Hemann, Patrick Hemann, Alex Hemann; great-grandchildren,
Abraham, Kadince, Taliyah, Aubree; brother, Peter (Beverly) Hemann of Osage,
Iowa; many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
A memorial mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at
St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek with Father Tom Loomis officiating.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home, where
there will be a 3 p.m. rosary and wake service. The family will also greet
friends at a luncheon following the service at the church on Tuesday.
Interment will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in New Haven, Iowa.

John Edward Scofield 1962-2011
John Edward Scofield, of Nowthen, Minnesota, died on Saturday,
July 2, 2011.
He was a beloved husband, father to Taz, Brady and Cooper — the
four-legged children — son, brother, godfather, uncle, and friend.
Most of John’s career was spent working with people with special needs.
He supervised group homes in the Twin Cities area. John loved working with
people and believed that God had called him to serve others. John also
supported Kelly in working with her students with special needs. He provided
technical support, shopping services for Costco treats, on-call delivery
service, supervision of dog visits, Santa appearances and moral support.
John and Kelly enjoyed working together to help others.
John married Kelly Jackel on August 15, 1997, in Austin, Minnesota.
Once John realized that Kelly had a garage at her home in Anoka, he proposed
and the journey began. The journey included Brady, a spoiled cocker spaniel
who was not excited about sharing his home but grew to love John the intruder.
Taz joined the family soon after the wedding and became John’s ever faithful
companion. Cooper the lovable snuggle bug, joined the family in 2010. Cooper
was John’s constant companion and napping buddy when recovering from
surgeries.
John was a member of Christ Church and served as the assistant
treasurer and a Life Group Leader.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Scofield of Lake Stevens, Washington; and his grandparents.
He is survived by wife, Kelly; constant companion, Cooper; mother, Jeri Ekstedt of Washington; sisters, Louise VanWinkle, Lori Lund/George, Brandi Bailey, Rachel Hill, all of Washington; nieces and nephews, John Robert and Corey VanWinkle, Paul and Nichole Lund, Anthony, Larry and RaJan Hill of Washington; aunts and uncles in Minnesota and Washington; extended family, parents-in-law, Barb and Don Jackel of Austin; brother-in law, Craig Jackel of Austin; goddaughter, Sara Alms of Austin; Winjum, Peck, Rittschof, Iverson, Kirby, Nelson, and Alms families; special kids, Emily and Jared Balluff.
John’s life will be celebrated Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Christ Lutheran Church in Otsego, Minnesota. Visitation is at 10:30, and service at 11:30 followed by lunch — 15849 90th St. NE (Hwy 101 and 90th St).
