Sylvia Ann (Kruger) Wagoner 1952-2010
Sylvia Ann Wagoner, 58, passed away at the Albert Lea Medical Center on Sunday, April 25, 2010. She fought hard, but lost her battle with colon cancer and went to be with Our Savior.
Sylvia was born Jan. 24, 1952 in Austin to Betty Kruger and she has a twin sister, Linda. Sylvia married Stafford E. Wagoner in 1973 and they divorced in 1977. Sylvia was a wild lady with a crazy spirit and a loving heart. She loved her grandchildren more than herself. She always had time for her kids and grandkids. Sylvia loved to gamble and spent a good chunk of her last years at the casino in Iowa. She loved bingo and being with her best friend, Linda V. of Austin.
Surviving her are her two beautiful and courageous daughters, Melody R. Wagoner, 34, of Stillwater, Minn. and Dawn M. Morales, 32, of Austin; three wonderful grandchildren, Francisco, 13, Alicia, 12, and Alejandro, 9, all of Austin; mother, Betty L. Kruger of Austin; sisters, Linda Stigney of Stillwater, Minn., Dona True-Johnson (Kirk Johnson) of Stillwater, Minn., Toy Sue Olson of Austin; many loving nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving brothers, Danny Kruger and Bernard Olson.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Austin Salvation Army. This is a casual celebration of life, so come as you are.
The honorary casket bearers will be Francisco, Alicia, Alejandro, Brent Johnson, Bridget Cook, Tristan Mehus, Linda Vasey and Toy Sue Olson.
Sylvia will be joining her brother’s, Danny and Bernard's, wishes of having a tree planted at the Hormel Nature Center. These three trees are planted in their honor. Please come and visit these memorials for these loved children of God.

David Carl Schaefer 1924-2010
David Carl Schaefer, 85, of Austin, died Monday morning, April 26, 2010,
at the Adams Health Care Center in Adams, Mower county, Minnesota.
He was born May 20, 1924 to Matthew and Mary (Heimer) Schaefer in Lodi
Township, Minn. He grew up on a farm near Rose Creek. He married Corrinne
Gluth on Oct. 29, 1949 in Austin. Employed by Hormel Foods, David and
Corrinne spent 38 years in Fremont, Neb. They returned to Austin in 1989
where they joined Grace Lutheran Church. David raised tea roses and enjoyed
hunting, fishing, cars and mechanic work. He looked forward to family
gatherings at Thanksgiving each year.
Survivors include three sons, William Schaefer, George (Nona) Schaefer
and David Schaefer; 11 grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; brothers,
Donavon, Richard and Duane; sisters, Florence Lee, Lucille Hanson and
Bernice Malchesisky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Corrinne; brothers,
Orin and Thomas; sister, Adeline Hanson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 1, 2010 at
Worlein Funeral Home in Austin with Pastor Jeffrey Forbes officiating.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday at Worlein Funeral Home and one
hour prior to the service Saturday. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery.
The family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society.
Worlein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Arthur Mills 1924-2010
Arthur Mills, 86, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Thursday, April 22, 2010
at the Adams Healthcare Center, Adams, Mower county, Minnesota.
Arthur was born on February 12, 1924 in Clear Lake, S.D. to Ross
and Hazel (Davis) Mills. On October 4, 1948, he was united in marriage
to Lucille Barbara Laufle at the Queen of Angels Chapel.
Arthur was a retired employee of Hormel Foods having worked there for
almost 40 years, and he was also a farmer. He enjoyed investing, reading,
watching business shows, walking his dog Samantha, and going to the cabin
in northern North Dakota for more than 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Mills, Austin; son, Mark Mills,
Austin; two grandchildren, Alison Mills and Andrew Mills, both of North
Dakota; brother, James (Rose) Mills, Blooming Prairie; nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Fletcher, and his father, Ross
Mills.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 30, 2010 at
Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. The
family will greet friends at a luncheon following the service. Interment
will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #91.
Memorials are preferred to the Mower County Humane Society.

Charles Thomas Rose 1916-2010
Charles Thomas Rose, 93, of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday morning,
April 25, 2010, at the Austin Medical Center in Austin.
He was born on May 15, 1916, in Roscoe, Ohio, the son of James William
and Bessie (Norman) Rose. He received his education in Ohio and after
graduating from high school attended Ohio State University where he
received a degree in industrial engineering. On Aug. 31, 1940, he was
united in marriage to Alice Louise Latham in Columbus, Ohio.
The couple lived in several cities where Charles worked as an engineer
for manufacturing plants, including Chicago, Illinois, Hartford, Connecticut,
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Racine, Wisconsin,
Lake Mills, Iowa, Indianapolis, Indiana and Faribault, Minnesota. The
plants in Lake Mills, Iowa were Deluxe Filters, now Fleetguard and in
Faribault, Minnesota, it was McQuay Manufacturing. He retired from McQuay
Manufacturing at the age of 63 and the couple moved to Pinellas Park,
Florida and later moved to Largo, Florida. In July of 2007, they moved
to Primrose Assisted Living in Austin to be near their daughter. Charles
enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing golf.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Rose of Austin; a daughter, Cynthia (Harlan) Wacholz of Alden, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Wayne Wacholz of Walters, Minnesota and Lori Koerber of Mounds View, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George Rose.
Private family services will be held at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin at a later date. There will be no visitation.

Funeral at LeRoy for Mrs. Danielson
LeROY, Minnesota — Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Danielson on Wednesday
were conducted by the Rev. J.C. Thompson of Grand Meadow. A quartet,
consisting of Miss Dorothy Walstad and Miss. Luella Thompson, O. Walstad and
O. Satre, sang, with Mrs. O. Satre at the piano.
Pallbearers were Dr. A.E. Henslin, S.V. Moen, H.L. Wahle, O. Walstad,
H. Knutson, and H. Coonradt.
Some from away, besides her children, who came were her brother, U.
Berike of Twin Valley, the Danielson families from Chatfield and Fountain,
Minnesota, Mrs. M.J. Laude of Rose Creek, Mrs. E. Rainey of Grandmeadow,
and Mrs. R.M. Hastings of Austin.

MRS. ANNA SKOV
ST. ANSGAR — Services for Mrs. Anna Skov, age 92, who died
Wednesday at an Osage hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First
Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Oakwood cemetery at Austin, Minnesota.
Survived by a daughter. Mrs. Albert Eukel of St. Ansgar; two sons,
Herman and Victor, both of Lyle, Minnesota.

Robert Edsel Miller 1918-2010
Robert Edsel Miller, 91, of Dexter, Mower county, Minnesota, died
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield, Minnesota,
where he was a resident the last two years.
Robert Edsel Miller was born on December 30, 1918 on a farm near Grand
Meadow to Jens C. and Edith M. (Root) Miller. He married Arlene Sievertsen
on June 27, 1943, in Spring Valley. The couple made their home on a farm
near Dexter. Mr. Miller enjoyed farming and working on farm equipment at
the Oliver Tractor Plant in Charles City, Iowa. In his retirement years,
he enjoyed going to northern Minnesota, fishing with Arlene and the
grandchildren. He was always busy fixing anything that needed repair.
Survivors include a daughter, Colleen (Don) Tebay of Brownsdale; six
grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; a son, Garry; his parents,
Jens and Edith; a brother, Earl, and sister, Almeda.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Crane Community Chapel in
Austin with the Rev. Dale Christiansen officiating. Interment will be in
Grand Meadow Cemetery in Grand Meadow, Minnesota. Friends may call from
4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening, April 28, 2010, at the Czaplewski Family
Funeral Home, 501 Second St. NW, Hayfield, and one hour before the service
on Thursday at the church in Austin.

James R. "Ron" Hayes 1937-2010
James R. "Ron" Hayes, 72, of Austin, died Sunday, April 25, 2010 at his home in Alexandria.
Ron was born May 24, 1937 to James Lawrence and Alice Ellen (Savage) Hayes. On Nov. 30, 1957, he married Constance Sue Carnell. Ron graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1961. He taught agricultural education for more than 40 years in Henderson, Minn. and Ellendale, Minn. and adult farm management in Austin, before retiring in 2001.
Ron was an award winning livestock producer and a member of the Mower County Fair Board. He was inducted into the Mower County Fair Hall of Fame and volunteered for 4-H, FFA, FFA Alumni and several other volunteer projects. Ron was a longtime member of Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Brownsdale, Minn. and the Brandon Catholic Church in Brandon, Minn. In his retirement years, he loved to spend time with family, especially his grandchildren and friends. Ron continued to work with his "farm" families doing taxes and financial planning. He enjoyed living his summers at the lake in Alexandria, Minn. boating, fishing, and walking.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Constance Sue "Connie" Hayes of Austin; children, Heidi Sue (Gary) Peterson of Rochester, Daniel Patrick (Judy) Hayes of Rochester, Thomas Ronald (Bev) Hayes of Syracuse, N.Y., Michael Edward Hayes of Boise, Idaho, Holly Ann (Steve) Berger of Inver Grove Heights; five grandchildren, Jayme (Alexander), Jacob, Eric, Jonathan, Kyle; sisters, Elaine (Doug) Blackman of East Grand Forks, Lois (Bob) Kovacovich of Danville, Calif.; brother, Richard (Mary) Hayes of Glencoe; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Loretta, Joan, Marcella, LeVita, Luella; brother, Joseph "Buck" Hayes; infant brother; grandson, Joshua.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2010 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Brownsdale.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the Mayo Clinic Cancer Research Center.

Herman Albert Schmidt 1939-2010
Herman Albert Schmidt, 70, formerly of Dexter, died Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Fieldcrest Care Center in Hayfield.
Herman was born May 3, 1939 in Iowa to John and Lydia (Schoenrock) Schmidt. Herman built tractors, worked with construction equipment and was a master mechanic. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include two children, Rhonda (Joel) Christiansen of Independence, Minn., Brad (Mary) Schmidt of Hayfield, Minn.; five grandchildren, Benjamin, Sydney, Danielle, Samuel, William; sister, Evelyn (Clayton) Haupt of Walnut Port, Pa.; brother, Ervin (Lorna) Schmidt of Stewartville, Minn.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alfred Schmidt; son, Mark Schmidt.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Pat Toschak officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Dexter.

Donald Everett Krebsbach 1926-2010
Donald Everett Krebsbach, 83, of Austin, died Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the Austin Medical Center surrounded by his children.
Don was born May 15, 1926 to Aloysius and Sadie (Haralson) Krebsbach in Adams, Minn. He graduated from Adams High School. Don entered the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. On Sept. 2,1950, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Baasch at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. Don worked at Hormel Foods for 44 years, retiring in 1984.
Don enjoyed the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. He was privileged to go on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to observe the World War II Memorial. Don was a member of the Austin V.F.W. Post #1216, the Adams American Legion, Queen of Angels Catholic Church and the Eagles Club.
Survivors include five daughters and sons-in-law, Marlene (David) Hannam of Austin, Connie Arens and John Arens of Brownsdale, Jean (Royce) Brandvold of Austin, Leanne (James) Bunkers of Lake Field, Iowa, Karla (Doug) Caruso of Austin; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald (Dawn) Krebsbach of Austin; 11 grandchildren, Andrew, Lora, Jason, Nicholas, Hannah, Justin, Brandon, Jeffrey, Brian, Ian and Sydney; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Vivian Hall, Angie Hall, Marylu Houle, all of Austin; two brothers, Carl (Adeline) Krebsbach of Red Wing, Lawrence (Doris) Krebsbach of Austin.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy on Sept. 8, 1993; son, Brian on Oct. 31, 1992; parents; six brothers; one sister.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 3, 2010 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #91 and V.F.W. Post #1216.

Manly August "Tim" Timmerman 1925-2010
Manly August “Tim” Timmerman, 84, passed away April 28, 2010 at the Austin Medical Center.
He had been living the past year at Our House Memory Care in Austin. He was born on Dec. 11, 1925 to August and Ella Timmerman in Riceville, Iowa. Manly graduated from Riceville and joined the Navy soon after and was in for many years. He belonged to the VFW in Osage, Iowa for 50 years and was also a member of the Austin American Legion.
His folks made their home in Osage and he lived in Osage after he was discharged from the Navy. He married LaVonne Miller of Austin on Feb. 22, 1947 in Albert Lea, Minn. Manly and LaVonne were married for 47 years and lived in Osage where he ran two service stations. They moved to Austin where Manly was a manager at J.C. Penney’s Auto Department. He then went to work for Hormel Foods until his retirement. LaVonne passed away in 1994.
Manly is survived by his brother, Robert Timmerman of Riceville, Iowa; sister-in-law, Doris (Miller) Kent of Salina, Kan.; one very dear friend, Gracie Ferguson of Austin; nephew, Gene (Darlene) Timmerman of Mason City, Iowa; niece, Janet (Greg) Holmes of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday May 1, 2010 at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with the Rev.
Dennis Tamke officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery with Austin Post #91 American Legion and Olaf B. Damm Post #1216 Veterans of Foreign Wars in charge of military rites. Visitation will be held at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Mathilda Anna "Tillie" Schumacher 1912-2010
Mathilda Anna "Tillie" Schumacher, 97, of Austin, died Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Sacred Heart Care Center where she was a resident.
Tillie was born Aug. 14, 1912 in Canby, Yellow Medicine County, Minn. to Mathias and Katheryn (Meyer) Kerling. In 1921 her family moved to Austin. Her early education was at Columbus School. Tillie married Lawrence Schumacher on May 19, 1931 at St. Augustine Catholic Church. They were married for 58 years. Lawrence passed away on May 12, 1989.
Prior to raising her family, Mathilda worked at Hormel Foods. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and enjoyed her participation in church unit meetings for many years. She had many hobbies including fishing, hunting, travel, cards and visiting with family and friends. Mathilda called Sacred Heart Care Center her home for the last several years. There she continued to enjoy receiving visitors and sharing her wit and love with family and friends.

Blanche Emma (Kingsboro) Moen 1919-2010
Blanche Emma Kingsboro Moen, 89, of Crookston, Minnesota, and formerly of
Fertile, Minnesota, died on Thursday, April 29, 2010, at the Riverview
Care Center, Crookston.
Blanche, the daughter Mark and Elsie (Lutt) Kingsboro, was born on September
8, 1919 in Bixby, Minnesota. She was a 1936 graduate of the Rose Creek,
Minnesota Consolidated School, graduated from the teacher training course,
Austin, Minnesota, and then from Mankato State Teacher’s College in 1941.
She taught elementary schools at a rural school district in Freeborn County,
Minnesota, and in the Canton, Madelia, Rose Creek, and Grand Meadow Minnesota
public school. During the summer months she was employed by the State Bank
of Rose Creek, First National Bank of Austin, and in the lab at Mercy
Hospital, Mason City, Iowa.
In August 1943, Blanche married Lloyd C. Erickson of Marshall, Minnesota,
who passed away in February 1945. On Dec. 26, 1948, she was united in
marriage to Oliver Howard Moen of Fertile, Minn. The couple made their
home on the Moen Century Farm for more than 55 years. Oliver passed away
July 29, 2004 and Blanche moved to Oak Court Apartment in Crookston,
Minnesota. She entered the Riverview Care Center on Nov. 20, 2008.
Blanche was a substitute and Title 1 teacher for several years in the
1960s in the Fertile-Beltrami School. She was active as a Sunday school
and vacation Bible school teacher for many years at the Varnes Lutheran
Church. She also was Ladies Aid treasurer for many years at the Varnes
Lutheran Church and later at the Maple Bay Free Lutheran Church. Blanche
also taught beginner’s piano lessons, was active in the Liberty Homemakers
Club, holding various offices over the years, and served for four years on
the Women’s Division Council of the Red River Valley Winter Shows.
Grateful for sharing her life are her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley
and Rick Herbel of Lemmon, S.D.; three grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren: Dellas and his wife, Lorie, and their children, Micah,
Macrina, and Anastasia of Fargo, N.D.; Derick and his wife, Terri, and their
children, Jaiden and Jaxson of Dickinson, N.D.; and Deanna Megan and her
son, Jacob of Dickinson, N.D.; several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Lloyd and Oliver;
one brother, Hubert; two sisters, Lucille (Clifford ) Nemitz and Vera
(Paul) Hubek; two brothers in infancy; and one niece, Janice Nemitz
(Howard) Luick.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May, 4, 2010, at 3 p.m. in
the Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile, Minn. Visitation will be one hour
before the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Concordia
Lutheran Cemetery, Fertile, Minn.

Jeffrey James Barber 1966-2010
Jeffrey James Barber, 43, of Lakeville, Minnesota, died unexpectedly on
Thursday, April 29, 2010.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 8, 1966, and was raised in Austin,
Minnesota where he graduated from Austin High School in 1986. He then
attended the University of Minnesota. Jeff was an avid athlete involved
with coaching youth sports. He was named All Big Nine punter in high school
football and was a member of the U of M football team in 1986-87.
He excelled as well in basketball and golf.
In 1990, Jeff married Colleen Sullivan of Minneapolis. He was employed
by Barrett United Van Lines as a salesman accomplishing notable and national
awarded sales goals.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Colleen Barber; son, Max; daughter,
Sydney; twin brothers, Scott and Steve; their wives, Sally and Nancy;
nieces, Olivia, Amelia, Julia, Allison and Stephanie; and his parents,
James and Nancy Barber of Burnsville.
At the end of his life, Jeff’s favorite movie and saying was “It’s A
Wonderful Life.” It remains in the hearts and minds of his surviving
family. He was an exceptional person, loving father, generous, kind and
faithful friend to all who had the privilege of his being.
Jeff was special to so many and will be missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Prince of Peace
Lutheran Church, 13901 Fairview Drive, Burnsville, MN, with a gathering of
family and friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 3 at the White Funeral
Home, 20134 Kenwood Trail (County Road 50), Lakeville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be used towards the children’s
education fund. A memorial fund has been set up at Sterling State Bank,
16366 Kenrick Ave. Lakeville, MN 55044, "Attention Jeff Barber Memorial
Fund."

Dwight Corson Funeral Held September 12
Funeral services for Dwight A. Corson, age 8, who died at the Mitchell
County Memorial hospital, were held Saturday, September 12 at the Queen of
Peace Catholic church in Lyle with the Rev. Msgr. Daniel Tierney
officiating.
Dwight Alan Corson was born in 1973, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Corson
of Mona. He had remained in a coma since taken ill in early January of this
year. Dwight is survived by his parents; a brother, Doug, and a sister,
Debbie; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Martin of Bemidji, Minn. and
Kenneth Corson of Austin, Minn.
Interment was in the Enterprise Cemetery near Lyle with Msgr. Tierney in
charge of the committal services.

Wayne Donald Johnson 1924-2010
Wayne Donald Johnson, 85, of Austin, died Sunday, May 2, 2010, at St. Marks Lutheran Home in Austin.
He was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Austin Township to Palmer and Anna (Weber) Johnson. He attended a country school in Lyle.
Wayne served in the Armed Forces as a Staff Sergeant, Company F - 35th Infantry Regiment – 25th Division, in the South Pacific and Japan for three years and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was employed by Geo. A. Hormel & Co. for 41 years and retired in October, 1983.
Wayne’s favorite hobby was fishing when he was not working or helping others. Wayne had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening at home, with his neighbors enjoying much of the garden produce. He also liked card games, especially Cribbage. Wayne’s gentle spirit and smile will be missed by his family and extended family at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.
For many years he was actively involved with the Masonic Lodge; he joined Fidelity Lodge #39 in Austin on May 27, 1974; The Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite - Valley of Rochester on March 27, 1976; Osman Shrine - St. Paul, Minn.; and Unity Chapter #29, Order of the Eastern Star, Austin, Minn. on Feb. 23, 1976.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie M. Johnson, of Austin; brothers, Clarence and Gollen Johnson; and sisters, Maxine Girard and Margaret Larson.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Judith K. and Ted Esse of Apple Valley, Minn., Sharon L. and Curt Hayes of Bloomington, Minn., Barbara L. and Dean Walsh of Waterloo, Iowa, Marilyn G. Johnson of Minneapolis, Christine G. and Cris Hammer of Coral, Mich.; grand children, Melina Esse and Katie Esse, Julianna Wallace, Andrew Hayes, Meghan Marsden, Chad and Vanessa Hanson, Nathan Taylor, Tia and Nicholaus Walsh, Amy Hagen and Kristina Hagen, Nicole Johnson, Stacie Smith and Aaron Hulings; great-grandchildren, Gemma and Fiona Wallace, Tanner and Simon Hanson, Jacob St. John, Isaiah Johnson, Ty Hulings and Colby Moore; sister, Mavis Madson; brother, Paul Johnson; sister-in-law, Virginia Christensen of Stewartville, Minn.; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 2 p.m., at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with the Rev. Karen Behling officiating. Visitation will be held at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Thursday, May 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be a Masonic and Order of the Eastern Star Service at 7 p.m., conducted by Fidelity Lodge #39, and Unity Chapter #29, Order of the Eastern Star of Austin. Arthur Helleck 1927-2010
Arthur Helleck, 83, of Blooming Prairie, died Monday morning, May 3, 2010 at Austin Medical Center.
He was born April 28, 1927 to Theodore and Jane (Noble) Helleck in Austin. Arthur grew up on a farm and after graduating from Blooming Prairie High School in 1945, he went into the Army. After serving his country for two years, he was honorably discharged and went to work for the Oliver plant in Charles City, Iowa in 1947. He married Arlene Holm on Sept. 26, 1950 at Community Lutheran Church in Geneva. Later he became a Hormel Foods employee for 34 years. He was a Semcac volunteer for 19 years. His volunteer work also included the First Lutheran Cemetery Board, American Legion, VFW and First Lutheran Church where he worked at lutefisk dinners. Arthur also liked gardening and sports.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Blooming Prairie; a daughter, Joan (Roger) Krejci of Lakeville; two grandchildren, Angela (Matthew) Jacobson and Brian (Ashlie) Helleck; three great-grandchildren, Conner, Kiley and Braden; two brothers, Roscoe (Rita) Helleck of Anchorage, Alaska and Harold (Susan) Helleck of Rochester.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gene in 1967; sisters, Thelma Henricks and Josephine Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 6, 2010 at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with Pastors Heidi Heimgartner and Charles Leonard officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at First Lutheran Cemetery, Blooming Prairie. Memorials are preferred to the Blooming Prairie Cancer Fund.

Dean J. Vermilyea 1954-2010
Dean J. Vermilyea, 55, of West Concord, died Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Methodist Hospital, Rochester.
Dean was born Nov. 7, 1954 in Austin, the son of Everett and Ann (Vogelsang) Vermilyea. Dean was raised in Dexter and attended school in Elkton, Minn., graduating in 1973. He attended vocational school in Jackson, Minn. where he earned a degree in plumbing. Dean was united in marriage to Colleen Puncochar on Sept. 21, 1973 in New Prague. They made their home in West Concord. In 1987 Dean began Vermilyea Plumbing and operated his business up until the time of his illness.
Dean enjoyed camping, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed grilling out for his family and for community events. He enjoyed a good game of golf with his son, Brandon, and sitting by the campfire while on camping trips and at his home. He was great at trivia, playing cards and enjoyed listening to music. Most important was having his children and grandchildren come over. He absolutely adored them. Dean loved life and lived it to the fullest. Only being diagnosed with cancer two months ago, he would do whatever they asked of him to get better. He knew it would be a battle, but he never complained. Dean will be sadly missed by his many friends, the community and his family.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen Vermilyea of West Concord; daughter, Gwen (Jason) Boe of Dodge Center; son, Brandon (Amanda) Vermilyea of Dodge Center; his parents, Everett and Ann Vermilyea of Dexter; three brothers Ken (Elaine) Vermilyea of Blooming Prairie, Ron (Kaloha) Vermilyea of Bull Shoals, Ark., Dan (Joyce) Vermilyea of Austin; a sister, Cathy (Dave) Braaten of Dexter; his mother-in-law, Irene Puncochar of New Prague; six grandchildren, Madison, Parker and Jozey Boe and Cami, Cooper and Casey Vermilyea all of Dodge Center.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Vermilyea; his grandparents; and his father-in-law, Edwin Puncochar.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, West Concord on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 from 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, West Concord with Father Kurt Farrell officiating. Interment will be in the St. Vincent dePaul Cemetery in West Concord.

Truman J. Johnson 1921-2010
Truman J. Johnson, 89, of Austin died Monday. May 3 at the Austin Medical Center.
Truman Jerome Johnson was born Jan. 9, 1921 in Blooming Prairie, Minn., the son of John and Thea (Easton) Johnson. He graduated from the Blooming Prairie High School and the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. Truman was a sheet metal worker and owned and operated the Ideal Heating Company of Austin as well as working for Scheid Plumbing and Heating and the Earl Hill Heating Company; he also taught sheet metal working at the Riverland College in Austin. He service in the US Army from 1942 until 1945.
Truman was married to Carol E. Johnson at the First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie on July 18, 1959. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Austin, The Sons of Norway, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Optimist’s Club; he had also served as the president of Local #10 Sheet Metal Workers Union.
Truman had many hobbies, including, golfing, fishing, boating and bowling. He was also a coin collector and enjoyed making movies of their travels. The Johnsons spent a number of winters in Tucson, Ariz. and had a lake cabin in the Faribault area. He also spent many hours making things for his grandchildren as well as making things out of copper.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Truman is survived by his wife, Carol E. Johnson, of Austin; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Rich Anderson of Blaine, Minn.; grandchildren, Katie Anderson of Minneapolis and Jon Anderson, a student at the Upper Iowa University, Fayette, Iowa; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6 at the Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. Glenn L. Monson officiating. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Blooming Prairie, Minn. Visitation will be held at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Wednesday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.

While Being Cleaned.
LYLE, MINNESOTA, July 2. — Richard Bjork, 29, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Bjork of Lyle, was fatally shot Saturday afternoon by himself while cleaning
a gun at the home of his cousin, Mrs. Carta Christiansen, at Austin, where
he was boarding. Richard was employed at the Hormel plant at Austin.
The youth was cleaning his .22 target gun preparatory to
going up the river with some friends for target practice when the accident
occurred. His brother, Herbert, employed in the Hormel office, called the
house about 2 o'clock to speak to his brother and Mrs. Christian son went
to his room to call Richard and found him lying on the bed, unconscious.
Mrs. Christiansen heard a shot, but thinking it might be a firecracker,
made no investigation.
Richard is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Bjork three brothers, Edward and Herbert of Austin, and Allen at home one
sister, Lucille, who is now traveling somewhere in the eastern states,
besides aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. The funeral is
planned for Tuesday at 2 o'clock.

ROCKFORD, IOWA -- Mrs. E. W. (Marie Brenner) Kluckhohn, 87, died Friday
night at the Rockford Convalescent Home. She had been a patient there for
ten days.
Born on February 2, 1871, at Brownville, Minnesota, she attended
colleges at Galena, Illinois, and Charles City. She was a member of the
Rockford Methodist Church. She was married on September 23, 1896.
Survivors are her husband and two children, Ferne Bethel, Thornton,
Illinois, and Ross, Ottumwa; a sister, Lilian Spink, Olivia, Minn.,
three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Rockford Methodist
Church with the Revened George Baker officiating. Burial will be in the
Riverside Cemetery, Rockford. The Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of

FUNERAL RITES TO BE THURSDAY
Father of Victim Hardware Dealer;
Two Others Not Hurt.
LYLE, MINN, July 19 — Paul Dahl, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dahl, died here yesterday from injuries received when the auto in which he was riding went into a ditch. His father operates a hardware store here.
Dahl was riding with two companions, Carroll Hies and Harold Johnson, returning from London, Minnesota, when an axle of the car broke and the auto went into the ditch. The group was evidently traveling at a fast rate of speed, as Dahl was thrown about 45 feet.
Concussion of the brain and bruises were suffered by Dahl, who never regained consciousness. The other two boys were not injured.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the home. Interment will be in the Mona cemetery**.
Two, boys in the Dahl family were victims of drowning eight years ago.

Funeral Services for George H. Rohde, 75, of Mona, Iowa, who died at his home September 1, 1979, were held September 4 at the Mona Lutheran church with the Rev. Gaylord Grant officiating.
George Herbert Rohde was born July 26, 1904 in Schaller, the son of Emil and Martha Rohde. As a small boy his family moved from Schaller to Webster, S.D., and from there to Austin, Minn. in 1927, and to Mona in 1937. He attended the public schools in Webster, S.D.
November 2, 1925 he married Millie Pearl Barnett at the Lutheran parsonage in Clark, S.D. Mr. Rhode worked as a farm hand until 1927 when he started working at the Hormel Company plant in Austin. He retired January 31, 1967 He was a member of the Mona Lutheran Church and the Trinity Lutheran Brotherhood.
Mr. Rohde is survived by his wife, Millie of Mona; four daughters: Mrs. Sylvan (Virginia) Faas, Mrs. Richard (Rosella) Hagelund, Mrs. Richard (Geraldine) Wodke, Mona; Reta Rohde of Austin; eight sons: Bernard Rohde of Randolph, Kan., Raymond and Olven Rohde of Mona, Clifford Rhode of Clear Lake, Vergil Rohde of Madrid, Spain, First Sgt. LaVernce Rohde, with the Air Force in Italy, Harold Rohde of Mason City, Duane Rohde of St. Paul; 24 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; a brother, Earl Rohde of Austin, Minn., two sisters, Mrs. Eric (Leona) Soderberg of Minneapolis and Mrs. John (Gladys) Erdman of Webster, S.D.; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one son, one granddaughter and one grandson.
Burial was in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Austin, with Rev. Grant in charge of committal services.

Merle Rohde 1939-1992
Funeral services for Merle Rohde, 52, who died Feb. 26, 1992 at Osage, were held Saturday, Feb 29 at the Mona Lutheran Church, Mona, with the Rev. Dan Behnke officiating.
Merle Rohde was born to Vera Sumner and Merten Rohde June 21, 1939, in Austin, Minnesota. The family moved to South Dakota where he attended school and worked various jobs. He served in the Army from 1957-1958.
He married Wanda Longland February 14, 1959. They had four children, Marvin, Mary, Brenda and Roger. He moved back to Mona in 1974 where he was a truck driver.
Merle and Karen Zellmer Berry were married Nov. 9, 1974. They had two sons, Andy and Corey.
Mr. Rohde is survived by his wife, Karen, and six children, Andy and Corey at home; Marvin Rohde, Mona; Mary Olson, Langford, South Dakota; Brenda Schoenfelder, Chapman, Nebraska; Roger Rohde of Webster, South Dakota; two step sons, Randy Berry of Northwood and Chad Berry of Hanford, CA; nine grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; one sister, Twyla Fortin of Watertown, SD, and one brother, Richard Rohde, Sibley.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Burial was in the Webster Cemetery, Webster, SD.

Held At Six Mile Grove
Funeral services for John A. Rohne, 85, of Lyle, who died at the
Mitchell County Memorial hospital December 26, were held December 29 at
the Six Mile Grove Lutheran church with the Rev. Gaylord Grant officiating.
John Arthur Rohne was born August 29, 1896 in London Township, Minnesota,
the son of Harold J. and Ella (Bergeson) Rohne. He was baptized and
confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Deer Creek Valley Lutheran church,
and lived in the Deer Creek, Albert Lea and Lyle areas. He attended school
in rural Deer Creek and Albert Lea. He had resided in his present home for
the past 19 years. He was a member of Six Mile Grove Lutheran church and a
social member of the Lyle American Legion Post.
Mr. Rohne was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
He is survived by three brothers, Herbert and Melvin of Lyle and Haakon of
Osage; three sisters-in-law; one aunt, Laura Leidall of Northwood; several
nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Rupert R. Sheumaker1904-1955

Funeral services for Rupert R. Sheumaker, 51, of Lyle,
who died at his home Tuesday, November 1, were held Friday, November 4,
at the First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar with the Rev. O.A. Langehough
officiating.
Rupert Roy Sheumaker, the son of Eli and Nellie (Simonton)
Sheumaker, was born September 15, 1904, in Wiota, Iowa. He attended grade
school in Wiota until his parents moved to the Meltonville community in
1918 where he completed his grade schooling. He was graduated from
Carpenter High School in 1925. He continued to make his home with his
parents and was employed at various occupations.
Mr. Sheumaker was a veteran of World War II entering the
service in 1942 and serving for two years. On January 26, 1952, he was
united in marriage to Anna Dreher at Austin, Minnesota. The following
year they purchased a business in Lyle where he had since resided until
death came in his sleep November 1 at the age of 51 years, one month and
16 days.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; two brothers, Harold
of St. Ansgar and Frank of Carpenter; also two sisters, Irene (Mrs. Wilmer)
Krahn of Lyle, and Arlene (Mrs. Guy) Pike of Otranto; also three nephews
and four nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, a
niece and a nephew.
Burial was in Woodbury cemetery with Rev. Langehough in
charge of the committal services.

MELTONVILLE, IOWA -- Rubert (Bill) R. Shoemaker, 51, died on Tuesday
in his sleep at his home in Lyle, Minnesota. Funeral services will be
held on Friday at the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev.
Olaf. A. Langehough officiating. Burial will be in Woodbury Cemetery,
north of Meltonville.
Shoemaker was born on September 19, 1904, at Wiota, and came to
Meltonville with his parents in 1917 where he lived until four years
ago. In 1951 he was married to Anna Marie Drehrer, Carpenter, and moved
to Lyle, Minnesota, where they have been operating a restaurant.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Wilmer (Irene) Krahn, Lyle,
and Mrs. Guy (Arlene) Pike, Otranto, and two brothers, Frank, Carpenter,
and Harold, Meltonville.

Dean Robert Smith 1953-2005
Funeral services for Dean Robert Smith, age 52, of Austin, Minnesota, will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2005 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel, 1801 Northwest Fourth Street, Austin, Minn. Dean died Saturday afternoon, July 16, 2005 at his home.
Dean Smith was born November 13, 1953, in Osage, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Evelyn (Wohlers) Smith. He attended school in St. Ansgar, Iowa, graduating in 1972.
Following graduation, Dean worked for a few years at White Tractor Company in Charles City, Iowa. He later worked in truck repair at Kensett, Iowa. He then farmed the family farm before moving to Sacramento, California, where he worked at a truck manufacturing plant for several years. He later returned to Austin, where he worked for the Austin Herald, and recently had been restoring houses in Austin.
A member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Dean's personality was to be helpful to others. He had a number of friends in Austin and surrounding area, all blessed with Dean's humor and generosity. He always gave willingly of the resources that he had whenever a friend was in need.
Dean was preceded in death by his grandparents.
His survivors include his parents, Floyd and Evelyn Smith, Austin; one brother, Roger Smith, Alamo, California; two nieces, Allison and Amy Smith both of Alamo, Calif.; and several other family members and friends.

Franklin Robert Tomaschko 1925-2010
Franklin Robert (Frank) Tomaschko, 84, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota,
died Monday, May 3, 2010 at Homestead House Hospice, Owatonna, Minnesota.
Franklin Robert (Frank) was born Nov. 29, 1925 in New Ulm, Minn. to Raymond
& Lorene (Stroschein) Tomaschko. He graduated from New Ulm Public High School, joined the US Navy in 1943 and served until 1946. He attended Austin Junior College and graduated from the University of Minnesota. Frank was employed at Northwest Air Lines until 1952. He then moved to Austin and was employed by the Hormel Corporation where he worked for 33 years.
In 1952 he married Alice Heiny, daughter of Ruth (Rossiter) and Ivan Heiny. Their daughter, Kathi, was born in 1955 and son, Robert, in 1957.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter, Kathi Hill (Richard) of Kalispell, Mont.; son, Robert (Linda) of Maple Grove, Minn.; sister-in-law, Marjorie (Ivan) Heiny of Austin; and his extended family, Dean Heiny of New London, Minn., the Jan and Jack Waller and Bruce and Danielle Heiny families of Austin, Mary Heiny of Seattle, Wash. and the Stroschein and Tomaschko cousins of the Twin Cities area.
The memorial service will be held at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 2103 Eighth St. SW, Austin, Thursday, May 6 at 11 a.m., with Pastor David Fleischman presiding. The family may be greeted at the church one half hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, American Red Cross, or Homestead House Hospice, Owatonna, Minn.

Donald N. Burgess, Sr. 1911-2010
Donald N. Burgess, Sr., 98, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died at
his home on Monday, May 3, 2010.
Don was born on October 16, 1911 in Waterville, Minnesota, to Sherman and
Renetta (Liebing) Burgess. He attended high school in Waterville and
graduated in 1929. Don married Caroline “Katie” Hanson on October 21, 1939
in Osage, Iowa.
Don worked for Hormel for 44 years and retired in 1976. He was a member
of Christ Episcopal Church and of the Austin Eagles Aerie. He enjoyed
fishing, reading, and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins, Vikings
and Gopher football.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Burgess; his parents,
Sherman and Nettie; sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Harold Svela;
and grandson, Tom Burgess.
Don is survived by his children: Judy (Bill) Rataczak of Annandale,
Minnesota, Don (Sharon) Burgess, Jr. of Austin, Colleen (Skip) Wakeman of
Seneca, S.C.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Organist will be Scott Blankenbaker and soloist will be Erin Schumacher.
Casket Bearers will be Mike Rataczak, Jim Rataczak, James Brown, Donald
Brown, Mike Haukom, and Mike Medina.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 7, 2010 at Christ
Episcopal Church with the Rev. Diana Rogers officiating. Interment will
be at Red Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary
on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the mortuary on Friday from 10 to 10:45
a.m.
Arrangements are by Clasen-Jordan Mortuary.

Claude "Ed" Baldwin1964-2000
CLAUDE 'ED' BALDWIN
OSAGE - Claude "Ed" Baldwin, 36, of Austin, Minn., and formerly of Osage, died Sunday (Nov. 5, 2000) at Westfield Township, Dodge County, Minn.
Claude was born May 2, 1964, in Osage, the son of Dwight and Claudetta (Willsher) Baldwin. He attended schools in Osage. Claude had been working at Crenlo Manufacturing in Rochester, Minn.
Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 702 State St. in Osage, with the Rev. Jerry Newland officiating. Inurnment will be in the Osage Cemetery.
There will be a gathering of friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the Claude E. Baldwin Fund at 320 Mechanic St. Osage, IA 50461.
He is survived by his mother, Claudetta Baldwin, of Osage; his father, Dwight Baldwin, of Massachusetts; one son, Cole Baldwin and Cole's mother, Penny Baldwin, of Hayfield, Minn.; three sisters, Theresa Davis, of Minnesota, Jan Parks, of Charles City, and Sandy Maravetz and her husband, Randy, of Charles City; four brothers, Tom Baldwin and his wife, Peggy, of Massachusetts, Ronald Baldwin and his wife, Jeannie, of Charles City, Myron Baldwin and his wife, Barb, of Osage, and John Baldwin, of Osage; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; and three infant brothers.

Vera A. (McGee) Ulwelling 1916-2010
Vera A. Ulwelling, 94, of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, May 6, 2010
at Sacred Heart Care Center.
Vera was born April 2, 1916 on the family farm in Winnishiek County, Iowa
to Dan and Lucy McGee. She was the seventh of nine children. Vera attended
country school through eighth grade and then attended high school in Cresco
while living with her grandmother. After helping on the family farm for a
few years, she came to Austin, finding a job at Hormel.
Vera was united in marriage to Benny Ulwelling on Sept. 16, 1940. They
enjoyed traveling to Army reunions and visiting her many McGee relatives
across the country. She loved keeping up on relatives and friends. Vera
was a founding member of a sewing club for more than 50 years.
Survivors include her daughters, Janet (Ken) Ruzek of Brooklyn Park,
Minnesota, Judy (Jeff) Lee of Rochester, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Katie
Ulwelling of Austin, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
brother, Bernard McGee of Austin; many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Benny, on March 29,
2010; parents; four brothers; three sisters; son, Dan Ulwelling.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 10, 2010 at
Mayer Funeral Home with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Friends may call
one hour before the service. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The honorary casket bearers will be Vera's grandchildren.

Lloyd F. Dahl 1899-1963
#1:
LYLE, MINNESOTA - Lloyd F. Dahl, 63, died Monday at a Rochester
hospital. Funeral services will be Thursday at the First Baptist Church
in Austin. Te Reverend Charles Paulsey will officiate. Burial will be
in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona.
Mr. Dahl has been a hardware dealer here since 1944. He was in
business with his father, Henry, until his death in 1956 and since
that time with his son, Glenn.
Surviving are his wife, Leola; two sons, Glenn, Lyle, and Jerry,
Minneapolis; three daughters: Mrs. Ralph (Lois) Williams, Lincoln,
Nebraska, Mrs. Leo (Gloria) Sandgren Jr., a missionary in Aftrica,
Sharon, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Paul Ross, Three Hills, Alberta,
Canada, and Mrs. Sterling Krause, Lyle, Minnesota.

Lloyd Dahl, age 63, Lyle, Minnesota, died on Monday at
Methodist Hospital, Rochester, following a six weeks' illness. He was
a partner of the Dahl Hardware, Lyle.
Surviving are his widow, Leola, two sons, Glenn of Lyle,
Jerry of Minneapolis; three daughters, Mrs. Ralph Williams (Lois), Lincoln,
Nebraska, Mrs. Leo Sandgren Jr. (Gloria), missionary in Africa; Sharon at
home; two sisters, Mrs. Paul Ross, Three Hills, Alberta, Canada, and Mrs.
Sterling Krause, Lyle.

Elizabeth A. "Betty" (Schneider) Fasbender 1922-2010
Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Fasbender, 87, of Adams, died Friday evening at the Adams Health Care Center, Adams, Minn.
Betty was born Sept. 19, 1922 in Adams, Minn., the daughter of Joseph and Theresa (Koenigs) Schneider. She was married to Gilbert “Gib” Fasbender on June 19, 1945 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Johnsburg. She had work as a clerk at a grocery store and later in the housekeeping departments of the Sacred Heart Hospice in Austin and the Adams Health Care Center in Adams.
Elizabeth was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams where she was a member of the CCW and a Unit. Betty enjoyed many travels and camping trips as well as doing embroidery work. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and baking cookies for them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; sister, Mildred Simon; brothers, Leo and Paul Schneider; brothers-in-law, Sylvan Winkels and Joe Jax; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Schneider.
Elizabeth is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Marvin Fifer of Apache Junction, Ariz., Mary and James Duane of Lewiston, Minn.; son and daughter-in-law, David and Sharon Fasbender of Rochester, Minn.; grandchildren, Lisa and Gary, Ann, Trina and Thomas, Marty and Melissa, Andrew, Brent, Danielle and Tom, Brian, Bradley, Jeffrey and Jill, and Michael and Katie; great-grandchildren, Ian, Nia, Benjamin, Thomas, Jr., Ashley, Bill, Britney, Zachary, Jacob, Chloe, Kayla, Caroline and Thomas; sisters, Anna Jax of Adams, Minn., Angela Winkels of Rochester, Minn.; brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Margaret Schneider of Adams, Minn., Joseph and Audrey Schneider of Taopi, Minn., Martha Schneider of Adams, Minn.; and brothers-in-law, Marvin Simon of Waterloo, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 12 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams, Minn. with Father Ruben Spinler and Father Clayton Haberman officiating. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be a rosary service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Adams Funeral home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday also at the Adams Funeral Home. Casket bearers will be, Jeffrey Fasbender, Michael Fasbender, Brent Duane, Brian Duane, Bradley Duane and Ian Loverink.

Elmer Irving "Irv" Nagel 1933-2010
Elmer Irving “Irv” Nagel, 76, of Austin, died Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Sacred Heart Care Center. He was born July 28, 1933 to Elmer and Vina (Miller) Nagel near Lyle, Minn. He served
in the Army from April 22, 1954 until Feb. 2, 1956, stationed in Japan. He married Kaye Ann Severson on July 14, 1956 in Carpenter, Iowa. Irv spent most of his life farming near Rose Creek. A member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin, he enjoyed his computer, photography, motorcycle trips out west, snowmobiling, listening to music, especially the Gaithers, and spending time with his dog, York.
Survivors include his wife, Kaye of Austin; one son, Steven (Cheryl) Nagel of Plymouth; two daughters, Mary (Tony) Constancio of Austin; Cara (Trevor) Hansen of Austin; eight grandchildren, Brianna, Lindsey, Mariah, Jacy, Anthony, Braydon, Corey and Hunter; two brothers, Richard (Lois) Nagel of Rose Creek, Donald (Pamela) Nagel of Grand Rapids; one sister, Carolyn (Robert) McElfatrick of Deer River; mother-in-law, Faye Severson; brother-in-law, Bruce (Susan) Severson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Donald Severson.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Glenn Monson officiating. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service at church. Interment is at Woodbury Cemetery, rural Lyle with military rites by American Legion Post 91.
Honorary casket bearers are Russell Ashley, Howard Classon, John Fossey, Bruce Gertner, Luther Meister, Larry Murphy, Richard Murphy and Norbert Schlichter.
The family prefers memorials to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or to Woodbury Cemetery.

Larry Stephenson ca.1947-1949
Rites Monday for Riceville Truck Victim
RICEVILLE, IOWA - Funeral services for Larry Stephenson, two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Stephenson,who was fatally injured Saturday under a truck on the farm tenanted by the Stephensons four miles west and two miles south of Riceville, were Monday afternoon at LeRoy, Minn.
The truck was being backed in the farm yard by the child's father, who thought that Larry was in the house asleep. Instead he had been brought out into the yard to play by Mrs. Stephenson, unknown to the father.
Larry was rushed to the office of a Riceville physician, who said Larry died instantly of a crushed skull
The farm is owned by E. K. Hendricks of Riceville. Larry was an only child.
Surviving besides the parents are the maternal grandparents. Mrs. Anna Johnson, LeRoy, and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Stephenson, Riceville.

KILLED WHEN HIT
BY TRUCK SATURDAY
Funeral services for larry Stephenson, two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Stephenson of Riceville, were held at LeRoy, Minnesota, monday afternoon, with burial in the LeRoy cemetery.
The child was fatally injured at about 2:30 o'clock last saturday afternoon, under a truck which his father was backing frmo its position near the barn. The child's father thought that larry was in the house asleep, but he had been brought out into the yard to play by Mrs. Stephenson, unknown to the father.
Larry was rushed to the office of a Riceville physician who said the child died instantly of a crushed skull.
The accident occurred on the farm tenanted by the Stephensons, four mile west and two miles south of Riceville.
Neighbors of the Stephensons held a cultivating bee Wednesday to assist Mr. Stephenson with his work. Mr. and Mrs. Stephenson are spending a few days this week with relatives at Clear Lake.
