Jean (Jeanie) Harvey Burton
BARCK

1957-2010

Jeanie Harvey Barck of Byron, Minnesota, died on April 10, 2010, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Austin on March 21, 1957, she attended Austin public schools and Austin High School and she graduated from Wilson Campus High School at Mankato State University in 1975. She attended Mankato State University and The School of Associated Arts in St. Paul, Minn. Jeanie was a fine artist and fostered the love of art to her family as well as many others. Jeanie loved to visit with people, cook, and be surrounded by family and friends. She always had time to listen and to give a hug.

Jeanie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend. Her life was an example of her unshakable Christian faith. She will be greatly missed.

Jeanie was preceded in death by her father, Jean Arthur Burton, and her daughter Amy.

She is survived by her husband of 25 years, David Barck of Byron, Minn.; her children, Amber (Eric) Barnard of Stockton, Minn., Karrin Geier of Austin, Samantha Barck, Danielle Barck and Brianna Barck of Byron. She is also survived by her mother, Marjorie Burton of Austin; sisters, Linda (Ron) Harder of Clinton, Ark., Janet Burton of Rochester, Minn. and Marcia (Sean) McCoy of Maple Grove, Minn.; four grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. A celebration of life memorial service will be on Saturday, April 17, at 11 a.m. Both services will be held at Crosswinds Church, 8106 31st Ave. NW, Oronoco, Minn. (just north of 75th St. NW and east of Highway 52, NW Rochester).

Sylvester John Kronebusch

1916-2010

Sylvester John Kronebusch, 93, of Austin died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

He was born May 12, 1916 at (Oak Ridge) Minneiska, Minn. to Jacob and Cecelia (Lehnertz) Kronebusch. Sylvester was raised by his father and Anne (Zils) Kronebusch upon his mother's death. He grew up farming, eventually moving to Austin in 1939 to work for Hormel where he continued until his retirement in 1978. Sylvester married Delores Sarah Beck on Nov. 18, 1940 and raised four children: John (Cathy) Kronebusch, Woodbridge, Va., Joann Kronebusch, Stevens Point, Wis., Brother Paul Joseph Kronebusch, New Melleray Abbey, Peosta, Iowa, Michael Kronebusch (Julia VanCleve), Minneapolis.

Sylvester was a dedicated family man visiting relatives regularly throughout his life. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and playing cards. He also shared his abundant garden crops with neighbors and those in need. Sylvester spent many years as a volunteer at the Austin Senior Center. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by three brothers and three sisters, Francis (Lucille) Kronebusch of Winona, Minn., Betty Kellett of Rochester, Minn., Elaine (Bruce) Stanton of Winona, Minn., Robert (Jean) Kronebusch of Minnesota City, Minn., Carol Orlowske of Winona, Minn., Thomas (Arlene) Kronebusch of Winona, Minn.; sister-in-law, Theresa Kronebusch of Altura, Minn.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren in Virginia.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin with Father Dale Tupper officiating. There will be a 7 p.m. rosary on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Louis Florin "Shorty" Schuster

1916-2010

Louis Florin “Shorty” Schuster, 93, of Austin died at Austin Medical Center Wednesday afternoon, April 7, 2010.

He was born on August 10, 1916 to Frank and Theresa (Ochoa) Schuster in Madison Lake, Minn. He grew up near Marysburg where he was baptized and attended school. He farmed with his father in Minnesota and Iowa. After attending mechanics school in Detroit, Mich., Louis was hired to work at Interstate Implement in Austin. He was employed by Firestone in 1939. On Oct. 8, 1939 Louis married Sylvia Prestegaard at Deer Creek Lutheran Church. They made their home in Austin where they were charter members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Louis served as a deacon; member of Brotherhood and Sixty Plus; and for 49 years as an usher. He also enjoyed fishing. He retired from Firestone in 1981 after 41 years and five months as a mechanic. He moved to St. Mark’s Assisted Living in October, 2009.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Schuster of Austin; three daughers, Karen (Larry) Wilson of Austin, Darlene Falconer (Robert Rickle) of Littleton, Colo., Judy (Harry) Reshetar of Sioux Falls, S.D.; one son, Michael (Deb) Schuster of Austin; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary (David) Webb of Douglas, Ariz., Marie Teresa Schuster of Douglas, Ariz.; one brother, John Schuster of Sun City, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Ethel (Eldon) Nordland of Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Marilyn; three brothers, Mike, Charlie and Frank; one sister, Louise Wendland; and his stepmother, Maria Schuster.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Our Savior’s Lutheran church in Austin. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery, south of Austin.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin and to St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

Richard D. Farris

1932-2010

Richard D. Farris passed away in San Antonio, Texas on April 6, 2010.

He was born on February 8, 1932, in Austin, Mower county, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.

Rick is survived by Marlys, his wife of 58 years; four sons, Monte, Anthony, Timothy and Craig; daughters-in-law, Dawn and Debbie; many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and family.

A memorial service will be held at the family cabin on Trout Run in Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Rochester Mayo Clinic Research. A memorial service date is pending.

Alma Ruth (Schwartz) Uzlik

1930-2010

Alma Ruth Uzlik, age 80, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at her home.

She was born on January 5, 1930 at the family farm, to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schwartz. Alma attended a one room country school in Red Rock Twp. until the eighth grade. She attended and graduated from Austin High School in 1948. She started employment with Enger Abstract Co. She married Myron Byers. When he was drafted and sent to Korea, she moved to Minneapolis and worked for an insurance company. After he returned to Minnesota, they moved back to Austin and she returned to work with the Enger Abstract Co. After her husband’s death she continued to work at Enger’s and in 1975 she married Graham Uzlik.

She enjoyed her flowers, did a lot of canning, and especially became noted for her excellent dill pickles, giving many quarts to family members at Christmas.

She belonged to the Minnesota Association of Legal Secretaries and always enjoyed their meetings. She was a beloved and wonderful wife and made coming home to each day a blessing to be with her. The suddenness and shock of her death makes her family realize how fragile life is. She will certainly be missed by all who know and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister.

Survivors include her husband, Graham; sister; many nieces and nephews; three stepchildren; five step- grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2010 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dexter Township, 22980 630th Ave., one mile north of I-90 on county road 20, with Pastor David C. Fleischmann officiating. Friends may call at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. and at the church for one hour before the service on Monday. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery on Wednesday, April 14 at 2 p.m.

Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

He had resided there since coming from Iowa 17 years ago.

Paul Vernon Peterson

1948-2010

Paul Vernon Peterson, age 61, of Austin, Minnesota, died at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis on Thursday, April 8, 2010.

He was born Nov. 11, 1948 to Vernon and Dorothy (Stern) Peterson in Austin. After completing his education, Paul joined the US Army in September, 1968 where he received training in Fort Gordon, Ga. Serving in Vietnam, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Sharpshooter award. After an honorable discharge in December, 1971, Paul returned to Mower County where he farmed the remainder of his life. He belonged to St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the VFW and enjoyed farm shows, showing cattle and restoring old farm equipment.

Survivors include his sister, Sharman (Bill) Starman of Austin; brother, Gary Peterson of Vallejo, Calif.; nieces, Kelsey, Amanda and Terra; nephew, Scott; great-nieces, Catrina, Ava and Cassie; great-nephew, Jake; uncles, aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Patty.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Ron Barnett officiating and military rites by VFW Post 1216 and American Legion Post 91. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel, Austin and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D.

Dennis Daniel Rush

1872-1956

Dennis Daniel Rush, son of John and LaVina Rush, was born near Delphos, Ringgold County, Iowa, March 30, 1872.

He grew to manhood there and married Margaret (Maggie) Lahs on December 24, 1894. They farmed there until 1912, when they moved to Indianola, Iowa. In 1919, they moved to a farm north of Brownsdale, Minnesota. From there they moved into Brownsdale about seven years ago.

Mr. Rush passed away at his home Febraury 28, 1936, at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 28 days.

He leave to mourn his passing his wife and five daughters, Mrs. Russell Nuzum (Esther), St. Charles, Iowa; Mrs. Sophus Carstens (Estella), Burchinal, Iowa; Mrs. Arnold Ziemer (Ruth), Amery, Wisconsin; Mrs. Paul Hendricks (Zella), Brainerd, Minnesota; Mrs. Melvin Luckow (Naomi), Milwaukee; 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by a half-brother, Sam Rush, Greely, Colorado, and a half sister, Mrs. George Stuck, Harrisburg, Oregon.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Brownsdale, Friday, March 2, the Reverend Frank Peterson officiating. Interment was in Brownsdale Cemetery with the Denton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Jack Leroy Peterson

1937-2010

Jack Leroy Petersen, 72, of Albert Lea died suddenly, Thursday, April 8, 2010.

Jack was born Nov. 27, 1937 in Los Angelos, Calif. to Wesley and Irma (Giles) Petersen. He attended Austin Public Schools. Has lived in Rochester, Minn. and Albert Lea. Jack married Sandra Thompson on Oct. 17, 1954. While in Rochester he worked for Fire and Safety as a Fireman and a EMT. When he moved to Albert Lea, Jack ran the Albert Lea Fire and Safety Store. He also worked for Enders Tool Company and Wilson’s. After his retirement, Jack mowed lawns at the Country Club. Jack was a member of the Eagles; Moose, where he helped cooked suppers on Friday nights; and volunteered at St. John’s.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, sports and just being in the outdoors. Jack especially enjoyed spending time at the trailer on Leech Lake.

Jack is survived by his son, Rick Petersen and his wife Sheila of Glenville, Minn; sister, Marie Turner of Austin; special friend, Trudy Donahue and Tavis of Albert Lea, Minn.; grandchildren, Jillann Luoma and husband Lance, April Petersen and husband Ansil Wiggins; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Kaitlynn, Jacob, Loryssa, Kylee; stepchildren, Ashley and Travis; step-great-grandchildren, Selena and Savanna; several nieces and nephews.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Irma Petersen; wife, Sandra.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at St. John’s Lutheran Home Chapel, Albert Lea, with the Rev. Jeff Laeger-Hagemeister officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea and with his family one hour before service at St. John’s.

Ronald Charles Moe

1937-2010

Ronald Charles Moe, 73, died at his home in rural Austin Thursday, April 8, 2010. He was born February 18, 1937 to Harry and DeSales (Poshusta) Moe in Garner, Iowa. The family moved to Minnesota to farm north of Austin. Ronnie graduated from Austin High School in 1956. He worked for Ulland Brothers and inducted to the US Army in 1957 After serving in Italy he was honorably discharged PFC in 1959.

Returning to Minnesota, he married Delores Christofferson on March 8, 1959 at St. Olaf Lutheran Chapel in Austin. They lived and farmed in Moscow Township during their entire marriage. Ronnie worked at Hormel Foods Corp. from 1986 until 2000. A 4-H father, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, golfing, fishing and bowling.

Survivors include his wife, Delores Moe of rural Austin; sons, Rick Moe of Austin; Jeffrey (Sara) Moe of rural Austin; daughters, Rhonda (Daniel) Schroeder of Rockland, Wisconsin; Jill (Troy) Stewart of Walker; Jackie (Brian) Betlach of Blooming Prairie; Jennifer (Daniel) Holt of Walker; foster children, Larry and Jamie Hanson of Madison, Wisconsin; Laura Hansen of Albert Lea; Richie Daub of Wabasso; daughter-in-law, Laurie Moe of Walker; 22 grandchildren, Israel (Nicole), Selby and Austin Moe, Kelly, Isaac, Nathan (Tammy) and Michael Schroeder, Jessica, Jamie, Jana and Jolee Stewart, Tereasa (Bill) Taylor, Mitch (Shelly) Fields, Tony (Brandi) Emmons, Chelsea Miller, Marysa, Preston and Chase Moe, Alexis, Breanna, Carter and Daniel Holt; 10 great grandchildren; four sisters, Marlene (LaVerne) Ingvalson of Woodbury; Shirley (Lloyd) Richardson of Austin; MaryAnn (Donald) Ryks of Shorewood; Martha (Dean) Krueger of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother, Steven (Mary Kay) Moe of Austin; many nieces and nephews.

George John Gehling

1924-2010

George J. Gehling, 85, of Grand Meadow, Mower county, Minnesota, died Saturday, April 10, 2010 at his home of natural causes, following a short illness.

George John Gehling was born to Herman Jr. and Genevieve (Gross) Gehling on April 11, 1924 in Carroll, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and attended St. Peter and Paul Elementary in Carroll. George played an integral role in helping his mother on the farm and taking care of his 11 siblings after his dad’s death in 1943. George married Lillian Klocke on Sept. 25, 1946 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle, Iowa. The couple farmed south of Carroll for four and a half years before moving to rural Grand Meadow in 1951. Together they farmed and raised their 10 children. After moving into town in 1979, George continued to farm alongside his three sons. He was a longtime member of St. Finbarr’s Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an active member of the National Farmers Organization, the A.S.C. Mower County Office in Austin; and he served on the Pleasant Valley Township Board.

George and Lillian enjoyed winters in Mesa, Arizona, and traveling together to Alaska, Hawaii, Michigan, Branson, Missouri, and the World’s Fair in Seattle, Wash. They participated in a Pilgrimage Church bus trip to Washington, D.C. and toured the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, the White House, Arlington National Cemetery and visited the Vietnam Memorial on which their son Corporal Donald A. Gehling’s name is written. George enjoyed being with his large and loving family. Farming was his livelihood as well as his hobby. He loved John Deere tractors and equipment and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and squirrels in his backyard in Grand Meadow.

George’s family will always admire the depth of love he showed for his wife and best friend, Lillian.

Survivors include his loving wife, Lillian; six daughters and three sons, Mary (Gerald Claeys) of rural Grand Meadow, Patricia (Edward) McLean of Anoka, Minn., Jane (Gerald) Brogan of Grand Meadow, Georgia (Robert) Von Arx of Byron, Minn., Allan (Debra) of rural Grand Meadow, Richard “Rick” (Margaret) of rural Grand Meadow, Steven (Dorothy) of rural Grand Meadow, Barbara (Steven) Seifert of Sleepy Eye, Minn. and Cathy of Mesa, Ariz.; 43 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rita Anstoeter, Rose (Wilfred) Ocken and Sister Joann; four brothers, Edward (Lorraine) Gehling, James Gehling, Robert (Joann) Gehling, Jerry (Kathy) Gehling; sisters-in-law, Linda Gehling, Nancy (Wilfred) Hoffman, Delores (Robert) Nagl; brother-in-law, Edward (Bonnie) Rasmussen; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald, who was killed in action in Vietnam in October of 1967; sisters, Louise Schmitz and Norma Rasmussen; two brothers, Vernon and Carl; two brothers-in-law, Louis Anstoeter and Walter Schmitz; and a nephew, Joseph Gehling.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at St. Finbarr’s Catholic Church in Grand Meadow with Fr. Steven Peterson and Fr. Charles Collins officiating. Friends called on Monday evening, April 12, 2010 at St. Finbarr’s Catholic Church in Grand Meadow and may also call one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday morning. A rosary service, led by the Knights of Columbus, took place Monday, followed by a prayer service. Burial will be at St. Finbarr’s Catholic Cemetery in rural Grand Meadow.

James Carlson

1930-2010

James Carlson, 80, of Austin died Monday, April 12, 2010 at Prairie Manor in Blooming Prairie.

Jim was born March 29, 1930 in Moline, Illinois, to Robert and Sarah (Winters) Carlson. In 1952 he married Sandra Dahmen in Bolan, Iowa. She preceded him in death on June 29, 1993. Jim was a retired employee of the Minnesota Department of Transportation having worked there for 32 years.

Survivors include his lady friend of many years, Bernie Krengel; sons, Steve and Brian in Arizona; daughters-in-law, Michelle Engelman, Iowa, LeAnn McCormick, Oregon; sister-in-law, Barb Carlson; 10 grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; brother, Larry (Dana) Carlson, California.

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents; son, Gary; brother, Robert.

Interment will be 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Oakwood Cemetery followed by a gathering at the Mapleview Community Hall.

AUSTIN, MINNESOTA - Donovan Ray Carroll, 64, of 702 13th Ave. S.W., Austin, died Monday, February 19, 1996, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Austin, with the Rev. Andrew M. Lindahl officiating.

Inurnment will be at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Toeterville, Iowa.

Donovan Carroll was born October 11, 1931, in Mona, Iowa, to Milford and Wilma (DeMaris) Carroll.

He graduated from Lyle High School in 1950, where he lived until moving to Austin in 1964.

He married Audrey Langrock on June 2, 1956, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Toeterville, Iowa.

He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Austin; Olaf B. Damm Post #1216 and Lyle American Legion. He loved to fish and hunt and was involved in sports all of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey Carroll of Austin.; sons and daughters-in-law, Lynn and Sue Carroll of Robbinsdale, Todd and Heather Carroll of Bloomington; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Todd Johnson of Bloomington; three granddaughters, Heather and Erica Johnson of Bloomington, and Tessa Carroll of Robbinsdale; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Lynette Carroll of Austin; sisters and brother-in-law, Nancy Alm of Austin, Sandra and Manley Berg, of White Bear Lake; aunt, Agnes DeMaris of Bolan, Iowa; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Honorary bearers will be Howard Ellsworth, William Bell, Maynard Penning, Gene Spence, Jim Spence and Harold Johnson. Pallbearers will be Jon Berg, Jason Berg, Dennis Hanson, John Westendorf, Art Draayer and Patrick Draayer.

Frankie Alice Cooper Brownlow (Kent), 97, died on April 14, 2010 at the Adams Health Care Center.

Frankie was born in Tama County, Iowa, on June 1, 1912 to Frank and Emmaline (Himes) Cooper. She moved with her family to LeRoy, Minnesota when she was 3-years-old.

During her marriage to Joseph Paul Brownlow, June 21, 1933, they had four children: Gerald Franklin Brownlow (deceased January 11, 1935); Vivian Arlene Brownlow Gregory and husband, Thomas, of Tallahassee, Florida; William Frank Brownlow and wife, Darlene, of Riceville, Iowa; Warren Allen Brownlow and wife, Margie, of Cairo, Georgia.

She was baptized in the Lakewood Christian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, on February 17, 1958, where she resided at the time. Frankie also lived in Riceville, Iowa; Dodge Center, Minnesota; Mankato, Minnesota; LaGrange, Illinois; Oak Lawn, Illinois; West Roxbury, Mass.; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Gloucester City, New Jersey; and Atlanta, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her son, Gerald Franklin Brownlow; mother and father, Emmaline Himes Cooper and Frank Garfield Cooper; husband, Joseph Paul Brownlow; grandson, Daren Allen Brownlow; and sisters, Ella Isabel Cooper Finley and Arlene Winifred Cooper Roesler.

Frankie is survived by her three children; eight grandchildren; and 16 great -grandchildren.

Frankie lived in LeRoy, Minnesota and attended the Bethany Bible Church for many years before becoming a resident at the Adams Home Health Center in Adams, Minnesota.

The funeral service will be on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethany Bible Church in LeRoy with the Rev. Steve Huecker officiating. Burial will be in the LeRoy Cemetery. Family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hindt Funeral Home, LeRoy, Minn.

Opal (Richardson) Berg

1914-1991

Funeral services for Opal Berg, 76, of Lyle, Minnesota, who died March 28 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin, Minnesota, were held Monday, April 1 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle with the Rev. Harold Luecke officiating.

Opal Berg was born on June 30, 1914 in Lyle, Minn. to Hans and Anna Richardson. She was baptized by Rev. Elmer Moe and confirmed by Rev. O. M. Langehough and was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church her entire life. Opal attended public school and graduated as salutatorian of her class in 1932.

August 4, 1936, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Berg at the Lutheran Parsonage in Lyle by Rev. Langehough. To this union was born one daughter, Myrna Ann, who passed away at the age of two.

After their marriage, Lloyd and Opal both worked in grocery stores in Lyle. For a period of three years they lived in Minneapolis, Minn where Opal worked for Powers Department Store and Lutheran Brotherhood. After their return to Lyle they owned and operated a grocery business in Lyle and in Austin, and later farmed in the Rose Creek area.

Opal enjoyed sewing and was known as a good cook. She also enjoyed singing and sang duets with her sister, Marlys and in the church choir for many years. She was a member of Our Savior's WELCA and the Lyle Study Club.

Opal is survived by three sisters, Phyllis Wallace of San Antonio, Texas; Maryls Johnson of Lyle; Norma Hannam of St. Ansgar; two brothers, Maurice Richardson of Lyle and Lloyd Richardson of LeRoy, Minn.; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd, and infant daughter, Myrna Ann; step-brother Orwin and step-sister Hazel.

Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mona.

Elgar Kenneth "Ken" Bjerke, age 88, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota died Wednesday afternoon, April 14, 2010 at Primrose Assisted Living in Austin. He was born August 31, 1921 in rural Grand Meadow, Minnesota to Cleabert and Grace (Van Gundy) Bjerke. He was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Grand Meadow. Ken worked for Hormel Foods in Austin for 41 years. After retiring from Hormel Foods, he assisted with lawn care at Grandview Cemetery in Austin for 20 years. He donated blood to the American Red Cross for over 45 years, donating more than 25 gallons of blood during that time. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, serving over three years in Africa and Italy. He loved traveling in his motor home with his wife, visiting family and friends, trips to Turtle Lake, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and watching his sons play sports. Ken was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Ken is survived by four sons, Brian (Susanne) Bjerke of Turtle Lake, Wisconsin, Danny (Kay) Bjerke of Mason City, Iowa, Gary (Theanne) Bjerke of Bakersfield, California, and Scott (Susan) Bjerke of Eagan, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lou (Burton) Morrow of Great Falls, Virginia; one brother Milton (Eva Mae) Bjerke of Richfield, Minnesota, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret L. (Peterson) Bjerke, his parents, one brother Leonard Bjerke, and one sister Wilma Kulbe.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday April 20 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Worlein Funeral Home and one hour prior to service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Grandview Cemetery.

Former resident of Charles City dies in accident

CHARLES CITY, IOWA -- A former Charles City resident was killed when his car went out of control on a gravel road near London, Minnesota

Kenneth Clark, 30, who lived with his wife and four small children in Austin, Minnesota was apparently traveling alone when the accident occurred. A passing motorist discovered the body in the wrecked car shortly after the accident.

The funeral Mass is scheduled to take place at the Queen of Angels Church in Austin.

He is survived by his wife and four children; his mother, Mrs. Myrtle Clark; three brothers, Harold Clark, Ionia; Jim Clark, Charles City; and Delbert Clark, Waterloo; and two sisters, Mrs. Raymone Venz and Mrs. Raymond Boggess, both of Bassett.

Iris Lorraine Hackensmith

1924-2010

Iris Lorraine Hackensmith, 85, of Austin, died Friday, April 16, 2010 at Our House Senior Living.

Iris was born May 5, 1924 in Austin to Lester and Agnes (Gemmel) Ball. She was a retired employee of Hormel Foods having worked there for many years, and she also worked at the VFW. Iris enjoyed fishing, traveling, dancing and visiting with her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Bailey of Austin; two grandchildren, Brian Bailey, Rodney (Beth) Bailey; six great-grandchildren, Sophia and Joseph Bailey, Samuel, Grace, Caleb and Thomas Bailey; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Ball and Ruth Ball, both of Austin.

She is preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; a special friend, Paul.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 19, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Cedar City Cemetery.

Eugene M. Stearns

1932-2010

Eugene M. Stearns of Prior Lake passed away on April 14, 2010, following a brave battle with cancer.

He was born on May 3, 1932 in Evanston, Ill., the son of Dr. Eugene M. and Mrs. Norma H. Stearns. He received his education in Evanston and at Ripon College and Denison University. After three years service in the U.S. Army, Gene returned to school and earned an M.S. and Ph.D. in biochemistry from Purdue University. He then spent 12 years on the staff of The Hormel Institute, University of Minnesota, in Austin, followed by 15 years as Product Development Manager of Life Science at The Conklin Company in Shakopee, Minnesota.

He thoroughly enjoyed his professional associations and accomplishments during his career. In Austin and in Prior Lake, Gene took an active part in many functions in his churches, in The Boy Scouts of America, in his political party and in other community organizations.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Norma Jean Hoener; his first wife, Margaret E. Stearns.

He is survived by his three sons: William C., Kenneth E., and John M. Stearns; his niece, Jennifer Lynn Hoener; his loving wife of 18 years, Patricia E. Stearns; and her two sons, Bentley R. and Royce B. Jackson.

Gene was particularly grateful to the medical staff of The Mayo Clinic for providing him with "extra" years and to many friends and clergy who helped to make these happy and meaningful ones.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 22 at 1:30 p.m. at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1900 Nicollet Ave., Minneapolis, with a reception following the service. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Fri day, April 23.

Louise M. Butler

1918-2010

Louise M. Butler, 92, of rural Austin passed away Saturday evening, April 17, 2010 at the Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.

She was born March 4, 1918 in Austin and graduated from Austin High School. A few years later she married Robert C. Butler on May 21, 1941 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. Louise raised her family on the farm and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newry Township. She was active in United Cerebral Palsy and also founded the Mower County United Cerebral Palsy Association; she was a member of the Altar Society and a 4-H leader for many years. Louise loved Bingo, trips to the casinos, spending her summers on Cass Lake and her winters in Bradeton, Fla. Her husband, Robert, passed away on April 22, 2002.

Survivor’s include four sons: John (Jeanie) Butler of Blooming Prairie, Minn., James (Linda) Butler of Austin, Robert M. (Barbara) Butler of River Falls, Wis. and Edward (Tina) Butler of Rochester, Minn.; three sisters, Patricia (Phillip) Splett of Stanchfield, Minn., Rosemary Kephart of Amery, Wis. and Susanne (Brian) Bowman of Blooming Prairie, Minn.; 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers, four sisters and two infant sons.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Newry Township in Freeborn County, with Father Swamy officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie, Minn. and one hour before the service at the church. Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday evening. Interment is at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery Fund.

Darrell Dean Rosenthal

1938-2010

Darrell Dean Rosenthal, 71, of Austin, died Friday, April 16, 2010 at his home.

Darrell was born May 28, 1938 in Austin to Dudley and Atola "Donna" Rosenthal. On Jan. 5, 1963, he married

Lorraine Cornelius at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin.

Darrell owned and operated Rosenthal's Flooring and Decorating in downtown Austin for more than 25 years until his retirement in 2003. He loved camping, bike riding, reading about American History, visiting museums, travel and most of all, spending time with his family. Darrell was an avid camper. He enjoyed planning trips for his entire family. He was always the one at the grill cooking for his family. Darrell was a huge fan of classic country music and enjoyed going to concerts and collecting albums. Darrell loved to take road trips with the sound of Hank Williams, George Jones and Ernest Tubb blaring through the car speakers. He was a member of the Austin Moose and Elks Clubs, and the Chamber of Commerce during the years he operated his business.

Darrell fought a courageous and often times miraculous 22-year battle with heart disease. He was completely devoted to his grandchildren. He never missed a school activity, volunteered to drive and chaperone field trips, and spent his retirement years taking them to and from their many activities. Darrell is survived by his best friend and truly the love of his life, his wife, Lorraine. From the day they met they were rarely apart and Darrell wouldn't have had it any other way.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Rosenthal of Austin; children, David Rosenthal of Austin, Thomas Rosenthal of Austin, Tina Marie (William) Monosmith of St. Paul; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Rosenthal, Isaac Rosenthal, Joseph Morse, Emily Rosenthal; sisters, Bonnie (Frank) Karnes of Austin, Marlene (Gene) Seavey of Austin; aunt, Gladys Besco of Austin; brothers-in-law, LeMoyne Cornelius of Albert Lea, Dale (Barbara) Cornelius of Denver, Colo.

He is preceded in death by his father, Dudley Rosenthal, and his mother, Atola "Donna" Rosenthal.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating. There will be a 6 p.m. wake service on Tuesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery near Oakland.

Darrell will be carried into eternal rest by his children and grandchildren as casket bearers. Mayer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Arlene E. Hein

1923-2010

Arlene E. Hein, 87, of Austin died Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Austin Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 31, 1923 in Connorsville, Wis. Arlene grew up in Connorsville and graduated from Connorsville High School. She attended college in Eau Claire, Wis. and earned her teaching degree. Arlene taught school in Connorsville and in Austin at St. John’s School from 1955 until 1967 and at Holy Cross School from 1967 to 1985.

On June 14, 1947, Arlene married Jerauld C. Hein in Connorsville. She was a member of Holy Cross Church in Austin and belonged to Holy Cross Ladies Aid, Y Matrons, Sons of Norway; and was on several local boards. Arlene loved to travel, spending winters in Texas, enjoyed genealogy, and taking the grandchildren on vacations and camping.

Survivors include two daughters; Rena (Laurence) Langowski of Austin and April (Steven) Morgan of Brownsdale, Minn.; one son, Mitchell Hein of Key West, Fla.; four grandchildren, Alana, Martha, Cara and Elizabeth; three great-grandchildren, Samuel, Ella and Ava; two sisters-in-law, Eunice Alberts of Groton, S.D. and Margaret Hein of Lakeville, Minn.; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband**; son Jeffrey; one brother and one sister.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday April 21, 2010 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Vicar Brian Krueger officiating. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday evening and one hour before the service at church. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery.

Martha Johanna Dahl

1913-2010

Martha Johanna Dahl, 97, of Austin died Sunday evening, April 18, 2010, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin, Mower county, Minnesota.

She was born Feb. 18, 1913, to Ole Thomas and Clara Elsie (Holter) Grosland on the family farm near Northwood, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the Bristol Lutheran Church in Worth County, Iowa. She attended school at Brookfield #3 Country School and Northwood High School. When Martha started school she spoke Norwegian and learned English in kindergarten.

On July 22, 1930, she was united in marriage to Stewart Estes in Albert Lea, Minn. They were later divorced. During World War II, Martha worked as sewing machine operator for Munsingwear in Little Falls, Minn. On Sept. 13, 1947, she married Henry M. Dahl at Lake Minnetonka, Minn. They lived in St. Louis Park, Rochester and Austin. Hank and Martha were self-employed as tailors for several years. She was Austin’s first meter maid lady and a sales representative for Playhouse Toys. She also delivered Winnebago motor homes to the west coast.

She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school, was a Stephens’s minister and held various leadership positions. She was a member of the Sons of Norway and an active member of the Republican Party. She continued her education later in life attending classes at Austin Junior College. Martha loved to travel and took four trips to Norway.

Martha is survived by her son, Dean (Mary) Estes of Avondale, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Garnas of Clear Lake, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Beverly Estes of Northwood, Iowa; her dear friend and Stanley’s life partner, June Varner of Little Falls; sister-in-law, Della Grosland of Mason City, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Dahl on March 5, 1987; three sons, Maynard Estes, Stanley Estes and George Dahl; a great-grandson, Matthew Walter; and seven brothers, Oscar, Carl, Louis, Elmer, Adolph, August and George Grosland.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 22, 2010 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. Ronald Barnett officiating. Interment will follow the service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the Worlein Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Penny Fay (nee Berg) Nolta

1948-2010

Penny Fay Nolta, 61, of Austin, Minnesota, died in April of 2010 at Saint Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota.

She was born in Austin on November 25, 1948 to Otto and Francine Berg.

She was a member of the AA-Club and the Cornerstone Church. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends. She was proudly sober for 26 years. She loved to garden and help people.

Survivors include her children, Kellie Nolta (John Gartner), Todd Nolta of Austin and Margaret Aker, who was like a daughter; brother, Terry (Sharon) Berg of South Beloit, Illinois; sister, Vana Ray (Peter) of Austin; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2010 at Cornerstone Church. A lunch will follow. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

Steven R. Nielsen

1944-2010

Steven R. Nielsen, 65, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday morning at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Steven was born May 1, 1944, in Albert Lea, the son of Holger and Katherine (Lorensen) Nielsen. He attended public school in Albert Lea. Steven spent a portion of his life in Albert Lea and the past 30 years in Austin. He worked for Cedar Valley Rehab for many years and retired from Austin Recycling Center.

He was very proud of his award for job performance from the recycling center. Steven was very close to the people he worked with.

Steven was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and loved going to games. He was also a big Minnesota Vikings fan.

Steven is survived by his sisters, Virginia Fiscus of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Shirley Christenson of Albert Lea, and LuAnn (Thomas) Aman of Albert Lea; one brother, Robert (Donna) Nielsen of Albert Lea; sister-in-law Karen Nielsen of Albert Lea; and many nieces and nephews.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth, Richard (Eleanor), Marvin (Bunny) and Paul; and brothers-in-law, Donald Christenson, Marvin Whiteside and Cleo Fiscus.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at the Bonnerup Funeral Service chapel in Albert Lea. The Rev. Mark Miller will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Geraldine C. Hoverson

1933-2010

Geraldine C. Hoverson, 76, of Fairmont, Minnesota and formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died on Saturday April 18, 2010 at the Roxanne House of Goldfinch Estates in Fairmont.

Geraldine was born Aug. 7, 1933 at Bricelyn, Minnesota, the daughter of Oscar and Harriet Hoverson. She graduated from the Kiester High School and was employed as a housekeeper at J.C. Penney and as a nurse’s aid until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Harvey and Warren.

Geraldine is survived by a sister, Beverly Kramer of Welcome, Minnesota; nieces, Lori Hoverson and Linda Huinker, and a nephew, John Hoverson.

Private interment services will be held at Grandview Cemetery south of Austin.

Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Beverly G. (Carlson) Bergeson

1928-2010

Beverly G. Bergeson, 81, of Rudolph, Wisconsin and formerly of Austin, Minnesota, and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, died at her residence Tuesday, April 20, 2010.

Beverly was born June 7, 1928 in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Bert and Nettie (Heinz) Carlson. She married Harold Bergeson July 15, 1951 in Brewster, Minnesota. She was employed as a clothing consultant for the Doncaster Company for many years.

Beverly was a founding and very active member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Rapids. She was the former president of AAUW and a member of the Garden Club. She hosted Grandma Camp on the Wisconsin River where each child was meant to feel like he or she was her favorite.

Survivors include her husband, Harold of Rudolph; four sons, Steven (Lynn) of Fountain Hills, Arizona, David (Gwen) of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, James (Jody) of Red Wing, Minnesota, Thomas (Pam) of Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, Joanne Grimstad of Worthington, Minnesota, Roberta (Bruce) Timmons of Sioux City, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Nattie Mae Kelly.

Services will be held Monday, April 26, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Rapids. Pastor Kent Raddatz will officiate, with burial in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation will be at church on Monday at 9:30 a.m. until time of services.

The Higgins Funeral Home assisted the family with funeral arrangements.

Annette Marie (Larkin) Nover-Ault

1946-2010

Annette Marie Nover-Ault, 63, of Austin, Texas, passed away at her home on April 17, 2010.

Annette was born on December 18, 1946 in Austin, Minnesota, to Robert and Lillian Larkin. She grew up in Austin and graduated from Pacelli High School in 1964 and from Texas Women’s University in 1968. She had been married to the love of her life, Monte Ault. Annette was a proud resident of Texas for her entire adult life. She was very active in her church and was an avid collector of giraffes.

Annette is survived by her brother, Bob Larkin (Doris) of Two Harbors, Minnesota; sister, Gloria Hareid (Bill) of Surprise, Arizona; step-mother, Georgia Larkin; aunt, Shirley Ryan and Uncle Harry Larkin (Dorothy) of Albert Lea, Minnesota; five nieces and nephews.

Annette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Monte and several aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at the Cook-Walden Funeral Home. Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010, in the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, Austin, Texas with the Rev. James V. Stockton officiating. Inurnment will be in the church Columbarium at a later date.

Edward Michael Carroll

1914-2010

Edward Michael Carroll, 95, of Austin went home to the Lord on Friday, April 23, 2010 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home where he was a resident.

Edward was born July 4, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois, and moved with his brothers to Austin as a young boy. He graduated from St. Augustine High School.

Edward married the love of his life, Leona Marie Winkels on August 31, 1940 in LeRoy, Minnesota. Together they raised 10 children in Austin. They were active members of Queen of Angels Church and later St. Augustine's. Ed was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. He retired from the Milwaukee Railroad in 1975. He enjoyed golf and bowling but more than anything, winning at a good game of cards with his children and teaching his grandchildren how to play. Edward and Leona also enjoyed traveling to visit all of their children and many other beautiful places in the United States.

Survivors include nine children, Sister Mary Carroll OSF of St. Paul, Minnesota, Ed (Patty) Carroll of Exeter, Calif., Gloria (Merlin) Paulson of Rochester, Minn., Bill (Linda) Carroll of Aitkin, Minn., Marlene (David) Gronholz of Appleton, Minn., Rose Carroll (Jerry Saperstein) of Evanston, Illinois, Joann (Ken) Dibble of Medical Lake, Wash., Christine (John) Schneider of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Sarah (Brian) Miller of Austin; brothers, Frannie Carroll and Jim Carroll; sister and brothers-in-law, Florence Carroll, Marvin and Mary Winkels, Betty Bissen and Irene Theis; many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Leona; son, Gilbert Carroll; grandson, Troy Carroll; great-grandson, Ethan Carroll; brother, Raymond Carroll; an infant sister; his parents.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating. There will be a 7 p.m. KC Rosary on Monday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #91.

Robert Leo Greiner

1916-1991

Funeral services for Robert Leo Greiner, 75, of Austin, Minnesota, who died Thursday, April 25 in a pickup accident south of Austin, Minnesota on highway 105, were held Monday, April 29 at the First Baptist Church in Austin with the Rev. Allan Flint officiating.

Bob Greiner was born March 20, 1916 in Floris County to Elsmore and Cora Mae (Copeland) Greiner. At the age of six he moved with his family to the Carpenter area where he grew up on a farm southwest of there and attended Carpenter school.

June 25, 1938, he was married to Blanche Bedford of Lyle in the Little Brown Church at Nashua. To that union were born four daughters. He had worked for the George A. Hormel and Company for 33 years upon retirement.

In 1946 he accepted the Lord as Savior and was baptized in August of 1947. He attended Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Lyle until 1965. For the past 26 years he was an active member in the First Baptist Church in Austin. he was president of faith Bible class and a board member of the Woodbury Cemetery Association.

He is survived by his wife, Blanche of Austin, Minnesota; four daughters, Mrs. Hilmore (Georgia) Williams; Mrs. Richard (Betty) Grinstead, Mrs. Warren (Bonny) Troavs and Rebecca Pepper of Austin, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Inez L. Huber, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Ruth Belz of Annadale, Minnesota; Hazel Petznick of Fairfield, Wisconsin, Faye Severson of Austin, Minnesota, Dorothy Hulshizer of Maustom, Wisconsin,and Louise Kirchgatter of St. Ansgar; five brothers, Louis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, William of St. Ansgar, Glen of Hernando, Florida, Verlin of Pauls Valley, Calif., and James of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, one brother and four sisters.

Burial was in Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle, Minnesota.

Edwin B. Griga

1914-2001

BORN IN AUSTIN

Edwin B. Griga

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 25, 2001 at 1:30 in the afternoon at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage, for Edwin B. Griga, age 87, of Osage. Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Mitchell, Iowa. Edwin died Monday, October 22, 2001 at Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday evening at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 720 State Street, Osage and one hour at the church on Thursday prior to the service.

Edwin was born March 9, 1914 the son of Martin and Anna (Valek) Griga at Austin, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church in Greene, Iowa. He received his education in Mitchell County Schools.

On February 12, 1938 he was united in marriage with Anna Marie Bakkum at the Osage Lutheran Church with Pastor T. Solem officiating. To this union, one daughter, Joyce Ann, was born.

Edwin spent most of his adult life in Mitchell County. He worked as a day laborer in the onion fields and working for local farmers. In 1966, they moved to their home east of Little Cedar retiring in 1979.

Ed’s interests and hobbies were fishing, gardening and helping care for his family and friends whom he loved visiting with.

Edwin and his wife were active in the Faith Lutheran Church in Mitchell. In 1998 he transferred his membership to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage.

In June of 1997, unable to live alone, Ed then lived with Zella Boggess who was a life-long friend for over 50 years.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna Marie and three brothers, Louis, Rudolph and Frank.

Those that mourn the loss of a dear friend, father, grandfather and other family members are: wife Zella Boggess of Osage; daughter, Joyce Clayton and husband David of Clear Lake; two granddaughters, Karen Bast and husband Ron of Armstrong and Janiece Martindale and husband James of Alabama; three grandsons, Jim Naber of Waterloo, Kenneth Naber of Oregon and Kirk Naber of Boone, IA and several great-grandchildren. After meeting Zella, her children became very special to him: three daughters, Judy Wambeam and husband Rodger of Austin, MN, Karen Rodemaker and husband Fred of Northwood, Annette Olesen and husband James of Rudd; two sons, Gary Tidemanson of Charles City and Carl Tidemanson and wife Mary of Greene; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joseph H. Hackenmiller, age 82, of Lansing, Minnesota, died Thursday evening, June 21, 2001 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home, Austin, Minnesota. A funeral mass was celebrated Monday, June 25, 2001 at Our Lady of Loretto Church, Brownsdale, Minnesota, with Father Hubert Boschert officiating. Interment was in St. Peter's Cemetery in Rose Creek, Minnesota. Graveside military rites by American Legion Post #91 of Austin, Minnesota. Mayer Funeral Home, Austin, was in charge of arrangements.

Joseph was born March 28, 1919 in Meyer, Iowa, to Joseph and Gertrude (Neis) Hackenmiller. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Mary Wendel in August of 1957 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Rose Creek. He was a grain truck driver and enjoyed baseball games, fishing and spending time with his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brother and sister in law, Joseph and Gertrude Hackenmiller, brother Rudolph Hackenmiller and brother-in-law Paul Mayer.

Survivors include his sister, Margaret Mayer of Osage and a sister-in-law, Marcella Hacken-miller of Stacyville, and many nieces and nephews.

LANSING, Minn. - Joseph H. Hackenmiller, 82, of Lansing, Minn., died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin, Minnesota.

He was born on March 28, 1919.

F. L. Wolfgram

circa 1868-1938

Former Mower Man Dies in Washington

The many friends in Mower County were saddened to learn of the passing of a resident of the Brownsdale-Dexter community for many years, F. L. Wolfgram of Longview, Wash. Mr. Wolfgram, 70, with his family, moved west a few years ago. Recently Mr. Wolfgram had stepped on a rusty nail which caused serious blood poisoning from the beginning stages of his illness. Amputation of the leg was necessary from which shock from operation he did not survive. The family are well and favorably known by scores of Mower County people who extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
