Bill Lee Nason

1939-2002

The funeral for Bill Nason will be Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sargeant United Methodist in Sargeant with Pastor Jim Hodak, Pastor Dr. Donald Budd and Pastor Jerry Harris officiating. There will be no burial service.

Mr. Nason, 62, of Brownsdale, former printer and owner with his wife, of The Bargain Counter, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at the Austin Medical Center.

Bill was born on August 12, 1939, at the Nielson maternity Home in Hayfield, Minn. 10 days after his father, Clyde Nason passed away. He had a close, loving relationship with his mother Ruth, who married Elmer Heydt in 1941. Elmer was "Dad" in Bill's mind.

Bill attended school in Waltham and Hayfield. Upon graduation, he served his country in the Navy for two years. When he returned to Brownsdale, thoughts turned to love. He pursued and dated Barb Heydt, who was a sister of his friend, Phil. They married on Aug. 10, 1963.

Bill and Barb, along with Bill's uncle George, ran The Bargain Counter, which served the surrounding area, for more than 30 years. They lived and worked together during this time and still greatly enjoyed each other's company! Raising their children, Bret and Brenda, only enhanced their love for one another. They welcomed three grandchildren who were the light of their lives.

Bill had been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease in 2002. Although the disease took the strength in his muscles and lungs, it couldn't take away his avid interest in Minnesota sports, his keen sense of humor or his enjoyment in the company of those who came to visit. Barb cared for him with a love and devotion unparalleled. To her it wasn't a burden; it was simply another way of loving him.

Survivors include his wife, Barb; son, Bret (Lisa) Nason, of Lancaster, Wis; and daughter, Brenda (Mike) Wellner, of Chanhassen, Minn.; grandchildren, Megan, Elizabeth and Ryan; his brother, Ken; and sisters, Mary and Myrl; and many other friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Hayfield and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the ALS Association, the Brownsdale Fire Department, or the United Methodist Church in Sargeant, Minn.

Blessed be his memory.
