Tristan C. McDurmott Warrington

2003

Tristan C. McDurmott Warrington, age 1 year, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, after a valiant battle with Rhabdoid cancer.

He is survived by parents, Sam Warrington and Serena McDurmott; twin sister, Mikayla; grandmothers, Virginia McDurmott of Minnesota and Janet Cramer of California; great-grandfather, Don Hollenbeck; aunts and uncles, Bob McDurmott of Oregon; Cyndi McDurmott and Kevin VanOverbeke of Minnesota; Beth and Joe Grubisch of Minnesota; Michelle and Bill Hoversten of Ohio; Genae and Bobby Sundby of South Dakota; Lisa Warrington of Colorado; Eileen and Jeff Cooper of California. He is also survived by 10 cousins and numerous other relatives and loving friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Waconia. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the mass at church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Austin, Minn. following mass.

Loved by all, his life too short, his legacy of love will live forever.

Theodore William Petersdorf

1918-2003

Theodore William Petersdorf, age 84, of Austin, died at his home Friday, Feb. 21, 2003.

He was born Aug. 25, 1918, to Willis and Cora (Haas) Petersdorf in Zumbrota, Minn. He married Isabel Griffin in Austin.

Theodore worked at Hormel Foods for over 30 years and was also a carpenter.

Survivors include wife, Isabel Griffin; daughter, Linda (Jim) Carothers of Johnston, Iowa; four grandchildren, Matthew and Amanda Carothers; Sara Hoza and Sandra Allen; four great-grandchildren; Mary Klingsporn of Pine Island; Rosella Whitman of Milford, Pa.; Daniel (Cheryl) Petersdorf of St. Paul.

He was preceded in death by two sons, one brother and two sisters.

Private funeral services will be held at a later date. His body was donated to science.

Kenneth Clair Meyer

1925-2003

Kenneth Clair Meyer, 77, of rural Lyle, Minnesota, died Thursday morning, March 13, 2003, at the Austin Medical Center. He was born on April 7, 1925, on the family farm near Lyle, the son of Clarence and Clara (Larson) Meyer. He attended school in Lyle, graduating from Lyle High School in 1943.

On September 5, 1948, he married Clara B. Nelson in Langdon, North Dakota. They lived and farmed on the Meyer family century farm near Lyle, until his retirement. He was a baptized and confirmed member of Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church, a member of the Lyle Lions Club, Sons of Norway and Farmers Union. Kenny loved to fish, hunt, watch his children and grandchildren play sports and visit with friends and family.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Meyer of rural Lyle; four children, Lonna (Ron) Ellis of Cottage Grove, Gary (Betty) Meyer of rural Lyle, Jeff (Robin) Meyer of Lyle and Jill (Jamie) Patterson of St. Ansgar, Iowa; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Clayton (Rosann) Meyer of Austin and many other relatives and friends. His parents and a nephew, David Meyer, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 17, 2003, at the Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church, rural Lyle, with Rev. Lydia Mittag, officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin on Sunday, March 16th from 1 to 4 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Honorary casketbearers will be Brandi Meyer and Haley Meyer and casketbearers will be Chans Meyer, Brock Meyer, Rod Ellis, Chad Ellis, Jon Olson and Jay Olson.

George W. Orcutt

1908-2003

George W. Orcutt, 94, of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at the Austin Medical Center.

He was born May 6, 1908, in Lyle, Minnesota, to William and Clara (Eastlee) Orcutt. He grew up on a farm near Lyle. He graduated from Lyle High School and then attended Business College in Mankato. He married Neva Dufty on Aug. 19, 1933. He worked for the State of Minnesota as a scaler at the George A. Hormel Company. He was a member of the Church of Christ and the Isaac Walton League in which he was recognized for outstanding service over many years.

Years later George would entertain friends and family for hours with stories of his country life. His adventurous spirit and sense of humor made him a popular story teller. His memories of days gone by were treasured by his grandchildren.

When he was a young man, he loved to go dancing and recalled heading out to a dance more than once with horse and buggy in a snowstorm, and making it. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and in later years, listening to music, reading, family activities, and letter writing, done usually on an antique typewriter. The letters he wrote (sparing no words) to politicians are too numerous to count.

A fiercely independent man, George lived his 94 years with never a thought of giving up. He remained interested in life to the very end. That is his greatest legacy.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Russell Wangen officiating. Interment will be in the Enterprise Cemetery, Rose Creek. Visitation will be held at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and on Monday one hour before the service.

Organist will be Shirley Cahill. Soloist will be Michael Veldman. Casket Bearers will be: Brian Barnett, Jay Barnett, Alex Orcutt, Richard Hull, Noel Austin, Jack Remkery.

He is survived by his: Daughters & son-in-law: Joann & Harry Stevens of Austin, Minn., Nancy Thatcher of Circle Pines, Minn.; son & daughter-in-law: William & Barb Orcutt of Austin, Minn.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; Sister: Mary Jean Austin of Albert Lea, Minn.; nieces & nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Neva, 2000; brothers John and Evan; and sister Helen Murphy.

Memorials are preferred to the Parmount Theater or the Isaac Walton League.

Joseph "Wayne" Tapp

1916-2003

Joseph "Wayne" Tapp, 86, died Friday morning, Feb. 21, 2003, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield, Minn.

Wayne was born May 28, 1916, the son of Harvey and Myrtle (Smith) Tapp in Dade County, Mo. The family moved to Minnesota when Wayne was a small child and he has resided in the Brownsdale area most of his life. Wayne was a farmer and a member of the First Baptist Church in Brownsdale. He was a Sunday school superintendent and served on the board of trustees and the board of deacons.

Wayne is survived by one son, Truman and wife, Faye Tapp, Orange Park, Fla.; one daughter, Donna and husband, Eugene Dennis, Austin, Minn.; five brothers, Gaylord & wife, Erene Tapp, Brownsdale, Minn.; Glenn and wife, Shirley Tapp, Rose Creek, Minn.; Leslie and wife, Shirley Tapp, Dexter, Minn.; Delmar Tapp, Dexter, Minn.; John Tapp, Owatonna, Minn.; one sister, Irene Parker, Lockwood, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Virginia Engelman, Austin, Minn.; one brother-in-law, Brooke Carmichael, Monroe, Wash.; four grandchildren, three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step mother, Julia Tapp; wife, Dorothy Tapp; one grandson, Cory; three brothers, Howard, Raymond, and Donald; and one sister, Maxine Carmichael.

Friends and family may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Brownsdale and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Harris officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Brownsdale, Minn.

James Dale "Popeye"
Ingersoll

1931-2003

James Dale "Popeye" Ingersoll, 71, of Austin, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Austin Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 4, 1931, to Frank and Beulah (Peake) Ingersoll in Austin and was baptized at Austin Methodist Church on May 8, 1932.

After graduation from Austin High School in 1950, he was employed by Coca-Cola Bottling Company. He served with the United States Army with Company C, 86th Reconnaissance Battalion, and was discharged on July 18, 1951.

On April 26, 1958, he married Janice Anderson at Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams.

James worked for Geo. A. Hormel & Co. for 38 years, where he worked in the silk screen department when he retired in 1990.

A member of Grace Lutheran Church, he served on the church council. He coached the church softball team and youth baseball. He belonged to American Legion Post 91 and enjoyed golf, pheasant hunting and playing cards, especially bridge.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Ingersoll, Austin; children, Kathy (Gary) Reichl, Glenville; Ruth (Steven) Emerson, New Richmond, Wis.; James (Wendy) Ingersoll, Austin; Karen (Brian) Janovec, Stillwater; seven grandchildren; brother, Robert Ingersoll, Sr., Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Eric Olson; brothers, Donald, and one in infancy; sister, Dixie Barrett; and mother-in-law, Irene Anderson.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at the funeral home and Saturday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastors Harold Deye and Greg Mannel officiating.

Interment: Grandview Cemetery with flag presentation by American Legion Post 91.

Kaye Anne (nee Williams) Miller

1947-2003

Kaye Anne Miller, 55, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at the Morris Hospital, Morris, Ill.

She was born Sept. 5, 1947, in Austin, to James and Marion (Kearns) Williams.

She graduated from Austin High School, received a bachelor of arts degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and a masters degree from Olivet Nazarene University.

In 1969, she married Craig Miller of Princeton.

Kaye started her teaching career at Hampshire Jr./Sr. High School in Hampshire, Ill. She taught at Marseilles Community Unit School District #155 for six years, Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox for eight years, Washington Junior High School in Joliet for three years, and was in her second year as a part-time Spanish teacher at Serena High School. She was also a real estate agent associated with the Advantage Realty in Morris.

Kaye was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marseilles and the New Life Singers. She had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a past Worthy Matron.

Survivors include her husband, Craig; daughters, Liz (Kurt) Konwinski, South Bend, Ind.; Kris, Morris, Ill.; two grandchildren; parents, James and Marion Williams, Morris; sister, Jane (Keith) Strinmoen, Danville, Ill.

Clyde F. Seiver

1922-2003

Clyde Franklin Seiver, 80, formerly of Austin, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, in Rogers, Ark.

He was born May 31, 1922, to Jennings and Ella Seiver in Brock, Neb.

He graduated from Austin High School and was a veteran of World War II. He retired from Hormel Foods Corp. in 1980.

On Dec. 20, 1941, he married Audrey Cruikshank in Owatonna. They moved to Austin where they lived until 1987. Audrey died Nov. 24, 1989, in Austin. On Feb. 2, 1991, Clyde married Lorraine Johnson in Camarillo, Calif.

Clyde was a member of Fidelity Lodge #39 in Austin and Eastern Star. He enjoyed fishing and nature.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine, Rogers, Ark.; children, Gordon Seiver, Placentia, Calif.; Barbara Seiver, Arlington, Texas; stepson, Joel (Cindy) Johnson; one grandson; step-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Katherine Seiver, Austin; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Audrey; and brother, Don.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, with a 7 p.m. Masonic service at the funeral home and Saturday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 2 p.m. Saturday at Fellowship United Methodist Church in Austin.

Interment: Grandview Cemetery, Austin.

Ellis Franklin Lukens

1909-2003

Ellis Franklin Lukens, 93, of Adams, formerly of Albert Lea, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at the Adams Health Care Center, Adams.

He was born Dec. 25, 1909, in Albert Lea, to Clarence and Ethel (Springer) Lukens. He was raised in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High School. He then attended the University of Minnesota for a short time. He worked on the family farm.

On June 4, 1933, he married Verda Hosford in Alden. Ellis continued to work on the family farm. Later, he managed several super markets: A & P, National Tea and Johnsruds. He served as assistant Freeborn County assessor, retiring at age 65.

He enjoyed collecting and restoring old gasoline engines and gardening.

He was a member of the Odd Fellows of Albert Lea and Township Board. He was a member of the Methodist Church, where he had been very active, and later at the Lunder Lutheran Church.

Survivors include daughter, Arvis (Rev. Allen) Gunderson, Adams; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys Whitney, Whittier, Calif.; sister-in-law, Shirley Lukens, Mankato; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Argyle; sister, Mildred Hahn; and brother, Harrison "Bud" Lukens.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 20, 2003, at the funeral home and Friday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Lunder Lutheran Church with Rev. Tammy Dahlvang officiating.

Interment: Hillcrest Cemetery.

Leota LaBelle (nee Griffin)(Bailey)
NICHOLS

1913-2003

Leota L. (Bailey) Nichols, 89, of Portland, Oregon, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Woodland Park Hospital, Portland, Oregon.

Funeral services will be held at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary, 209 Second Ave. NW, in Austin. Concluding rites and interment will follow at the Wayne Cemetery in McIntire, Iowa.

Leota LaBelle was born Dec. 26, 1913, near Ross, N.D., to Orville and Pauline (Prochaska) Griffin. She was raised and educated in the Missouri River Bottom community.

She married Clair Austin Bailey in 1928 in Little Cedar, Iowa. They lived in McIntire, Iowa until 1936, when they moved to Austin, Minn. Leota was preceded in death by her husband, Clair, in 1954, after 27 years of marriage.

On Dec. 4, 1978, Leota married Harold Bailey Nichols in Tacoma, Wash. They wintered in Hemet, Calif. with her two sisters and returned to their Winlock home in the spring. Leota was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, on March 6, 1997, after 18 years of marriage.

Following Harold's death, Leota moved to Banks, Oregon, to reside with her daughter and family. In December of 2002, Leota moved to the Oregon Baptist Assisted Living Center in Portland.

Leota worked as a baker for the Sacred Heart Hospice in Austin, Minn. for six years. In 1963, she received her diploma as a beautician from the Austin Vocational School. For several years, Leota worked as a beautician for the residents of Sacred Heart Hospice, and also at Inez Beauty Shop.

While living in Austin, Leota was a member of Crane Chapel Church and, after moving to Winlock, Wash., she attended the Winlock Methodist Church, where she participated in the women's Bible study group.

She enjoyed baking, photography, her Christian activities and traveling to visit her son and old friends. Leota loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Madeline Griffin; and son, Everett Austin Bailey in 1935.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Oneta Pauline and Douglas Holz, Banks, Ore.; sisters and brother-in-law, Olive and Kenneth Riersgard, Moscow, Idaho; and Orma Meyers, Hemet, Calif.; six grandchildren and their spouses, Dion and Lisa Hanson, Hudson, Wis.; Desiree and Thomas Getner, Mulino, Ore.; John and Jen Bailey, Grand Forks, N.D.; Jim and Amy Bailey, Chanhassen, Minn.; Melissa Bailey, Winona, Minn.; Amber Holz, Banks, Ore.; six nieces and nephews, Roberta Meyers, Phillip Riersgard, Marsha Hyde and Linda Riersgard.

Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove is in charge of the Oregon Arrangements. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin is in charge of Minnesota arrangements.

Laura Marie (nee Samuel)
DALAGER

1929-2003

Laura Marie Dalager, 73, of rural Austin, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at Austin Medical Center.

She was born May 1, 1929, to G. Covert and Bertha (Burke) Samuel in Sigourney, Iowa. She moved to the Austin area and graduated from Austin High School.

On March 13, 1948, she married Kenneth Dalager at Lansing United Methodist Church.

Laura enjoyed gardening, crafting, fishing and spending time with family.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth; sons, Joe (Pam) Dalager, St. Louis Park; Mike (Julie) Dalager, Shoreview; daughter, Carol (Timothy) Prout, Boulder, Colo.; five grandchildren; relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harold; and granddaughter, Lindsay.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at the funeral home and Friday at the church for one hour before the service

Bernard Arnold Hylle

1921-2003

Bernard Arnold Hylle, age 81, of Austin, died Saturday evening, Feb. 15, 2003, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin. Bernie's life was sustained for the past five and a half years by kidney dialysis.

He was born April 13, 1921, to Andrew and Ingeborg (Bakketun) Hylle in Austin, Minn. He graduated in 1939 from Austin High School. Following his father's death, Bernard was an after-school custodian from 1938 until 1942. He was drafted into the Army during World War II and served with the engineers in Europe for three years. Upon returning from the war he worked as a mechanic for Hormel Foods Corp. until his retirement in 1985.

He married Doris Nelson on Sept. 10, 1949, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. Arthur L. Swenson officiating.

A lifelong member of St. Olaf Church, Bernie volunteered with transportation for organizations such as People Needing People, Wee Learning, the church van and St. Mark's van. He taught Sunday School for 35 years and gave many hours of his time to Habitat for Humanity. Bernie was one of many veterans honored by the French government a few years ago.

He enjoyed playing snooker at the Senior Citizens Center and summer vacations at Whitefish Lake. Other hobbies included reading, sports, woodworking, playing with the grandchildren and reading to them.

Survivors include wife, Doris Hylle of Austin; children, Paul Hylle of Grand Meadow; Barbara Hylle of Minneapolis; Denise Hylle of Sheridan, Wyo.; John (Melody) Hylle of Owatonna; two grandchildren, Samuel Bernard and Lauren June Hylle; sister, Selma (Robert) Matter of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Marietta (Arthur) Hylle of Austin; nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Ingeborg Hylle; an infant sister and brother, Arthur Martin Hylle.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kristin K. Wee officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Worlein Funeral Home. There will be no reviewal at church. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery.

Mary E. (Henderson) Vomacka

1919-2003

Mary E. Vomacka, 83, of Austin, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at the Adams Healthcare Center.

She was born May 7, 1919, in Coggon, Iowa, to George and Mary Anne (Dennis) Henderson. She graduated from Central City High School in 1939. She also attended nursing school in Central City, Iowa.

In 1941, she married Frank Vomacka. Mary was a farmer's wife in the Austin area. The couple also owned a farm in McIntyre, Iowa. Mary was a nurse at the Riceville Hospital in Riceville, Iowa. In 1963, the couple moved to Austin, where Mary did private nursing. She worked as an LPN from 1964 to 1981 at Comforcare in Austin. She gave blood for many years and received a 15-year pin.

She was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church where she was active in her unit and taught catechism.

She enjoyed family, the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, knitting, crocheting, flowers, her pets and her handheld Yahtzee game.

Survivors include her son, Alfred (Candis) Vomacka, Austin; daughters, Kathleen Schuna, Austin; Betty Towers, Austin; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996; parents; sister, Jessie Draayer; son-in-law, Ted Towers.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 18, 2003, with a 5 p.m. CCW rosary and a 6:30 p.m. wake service and from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Service: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Kurt Farrell officiating.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery.

Charles Clayton Marsden

1943-2009

AUSTIN, MINNESOTA - Charles "Chuck" Clayton Marsden was born Nov. 10, 1943 in Austin to Charles L. and Verlett (Mork) Marsden. He died Sunday, August 16, 2009 at Comforcare Care Center in Austin.

He married Janet Kay Stark in Austin. He served three years in the U.S. Army and 32 years working for the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Churck enjoyed bike riding, walking in the woods and along the railroad tracks. He collected knives and old razors. He spent most of his life living in Oakland, Minn. with the last 3 1/2 years as a resident of Comforcare Care Center.

Chuck is survived by his wife Janet, Oakland, Minn.; son, Michael Marsden, Rochester; grandson, Allen Marsden, Milaca, Minn.; two brothers, Ronald Marsden and Douglas Marsden, Austin; mother-in-law, Louisa Stark, sister-in-law, Janice (Hank) Berg; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Judy) Stark and Jim Stark all of Milaca; nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009 at Mayer Funeral Home with Theresa Turnbull officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday evening at Mayer Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.

Mary Ann (Krokos) Burzinski

1919-2009

Mary Ann Burzinski, 89, long time resident of Austin, passed away peacefully August 17, 2009 with her husband at her side.

She was born on December 18, 1919 in Austin to Frank and Margaret (Peters) Krokos. She went to work at Hormel Foods as a teenager and became a stay at home mother to raise seven children after she married Joseph Burzinski at Queen of Angles Catholic Church on Flag Day, June 14, 1944.

She was an active member in the St. Augustine Church and her steadfast faith was an inspiration to family and friends. She had a love for nature and her flower gardens were a testmant to that love. If you wanted to play a card game of 500, she was more than willing and as her kids and her gradchildren can attest. The winning team usually had her as a partner. Perhaps her most endearing trait was her never ending love and support for family. She would give of hersellf to endless bounds and there was no better advocate.

Survivors include her husband, Joe; son, Jerry; daughter, Judy (Clint) Lueck, Medina, Minn.; sons, David Burzinski, Monticello, Minn., John Burzinski, Maple Grove, Minn., Brian Burzinski, Jordan, Minn., Mark Burzinski, Austin, Dean (Jill) Burzinski, Austin; seven grandchildren, Jason Burzinski, Rachael (Andrew) Hamilton, Scott Johnston, Bridget Burzinski, Nicholas Burzinski, Jacob Burzinski, Matthew Burzinski and one great-grandchild, Oliva Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister and a granddaughter, Christine.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, 2009 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be a 6:30 p.m. prayer service on Thursday evening at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be David Burzinski, John Burzinski, Brian Burzinski, Dean Burzinski, Clint Lueck and Jacob Burzinski.

Soiney

1910-2009

Georgia Elizabeth Soiney, 98, of Austin, died on Aug. 17, 2009 at the Austin Medical Center in Austin.

She was born Oct. 9, 1910 in Dakota, Minn. to George and Julia (Skaar) Gilbert. She attended rural schools in the Canton area where she spent her early years, moving to Austin in 1942. She married Oscar Soiney on Feb. 14, 1928 at the Garness Church near Mable, Minn. Georgia was a longtime member of the Crane Community Chapel. Everything in her life revolved around her family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009 at Crane Community Chapel with the Reverend Dale Christiansen officiating. Interment will be in Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and for one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Gilbert and grandchildren Kathy (Soiney) Bundy and Jeff Soiney.

Georgia is survived by her sons, Ronald (Jane) Soiney, Austin, Robert (Luella) Soiney, Austin, Richard (Jan) Soiney, Surprise, Ariz.; daughters, Mickey (Hank) Quam, Austin, Jeanne (Earl) Sanders, Flushing, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Johnson, Waseca, Minn., Rachel Watson, St. Paul, Minn.; many nieces and nephews.

Memorials are preferred to the Crane Community Chapel or to the donor's choice.

Albert E. Sulton, age 67, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died on Sunday at Wadsworth Veteran's Hospital, Los Angeles, Calif.

Survivors include his wife, Delilah V. (Leighton); two sons, Albert of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., Robert of Malibu, Calif; two daughters, Mrs. Richard Harris (Margaret), Playa del Ray. Calif., and Mrs. Fred Dalessi (Delilah) Anne, Claremont, Calif.: 19 grand-children; one brother, George of Minneapolis.

Services will be Tuesday at Los Angeles.

Elmer P. Henke, 61, drowned Friday, at Winona, Minnesota. A former resident of Austin, he resided at Winona the past six years.

Surviving are three brothers: Arthur of Hanover, Ill., Alvin and Arnold of Austin; three sisters: Mrs. Oscar Richter, St. Paul, Mrs. Lowell Johnson, Harmony, Minn., and Mrs. Raymond Mackcnburg, Cresco, Iowa.

AUSTIN, MINNESOTA - George N. Peck, 88, of Austin, died on June 3, 2009 at Austin Medical Center.

He was born on December 18, 1920 in Austin, to Peter and Mallas (Druwatkopits) Peck. George married Lorrayne Seavey on January 19, 1947 in Mason City, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during World War II for three years. Two and a half years of that time was spent overseas. He worked at Geo. A. Hormel and Co. for 44 years. A member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, in his spare time he loved to hunt, fish and travel to his cabin in Ontario, Canada.

Survivors include his wife, Lorrayne, Austin; two daughters, Cindy Evans, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Sandra Cochran, Litchfield; two stepsons, Eugene Borden, Valley Center, Calif. and Thomas Borden, Oakdale, Minn.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Peter Peck. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mallas and Peter; two sons; one brother; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91. Casket bearers are Jeremy and Jessica Evans, Chad and Trisha Watkins, Peter Marks and Richard Cochran. Honorary casket bearer is Jennifer Evans. The family prefers memorials to donors choice.

1939-2009

William John Engel, 70, of Austin, died on June 3, 2009 at St. Marys Hospital.

William (Bill) was born on May 29, 1939 in Austin to (Wenzel) Donald Engel and Dorothy Kulzer. Bill married Betty Hemmer June 1, 1963. Together they shared 46 years of marriage. They shared a joyous life together as they raised their two children, Thomas Engel and Deborah (Engel) Petersen. Bill was a well-respected business man, husband, father and grandfather. He started his own oil business in the 1970s, from there in the 1990s he owned a travel agency for a short time. He then moved to Las Vegas and began his Realtor career. In 2002 he moved back to Austin to continue his career as a Realtor for Sterling Real Estate.

Bill is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Thomas (Paige Brandt); daughter, Deborah (Michael) Petersen and three lovely granddaughters, Lauryn Petersen, McKena Petersen and Josie Engel. He is also survived by his brother, David (Mary) Engel; sisters, Joan Patterson, Margaret Gruzkowski, Virginia (David) Larson and brother, Thomas (Maggie) Engel; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, (Wenzel) Donald Engel, and mother, Dorothy (Kulzer) Engel.

Funeral will be held Saturday June 6, 2009 at St. Augustine Catholic church at 10:30 a.m. with a visitation before the funeral at 9:30 a.m.

Roger Lee Beckel

1953-2009

Roger Lee Beckel, 56, of Sturgis, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at his residence near Sturgis.

Roger was born Nov. 14, 1953 in Austin to Bernard and Lois (Swehla) Beckel. He graduated from high school in Austin and received his Bachelor of Science in Business from Arizona State University. He graduated from St. Thomas in Minneapolis with a master’s in Business Administration.

Roger was employed for Wells Fargo, ACRO and ING as an executive loan officer.

He married Betty Holden in Brooklyn Park, Minn. on Oct. 5, 2002.

In 2003, Roger and Betty purchased the Bulldog Campground near Pleasant Valley, south of Sturgis. Roger commuted from Minneapolis to Sturgis until making the Black Hills his permanent home. Roger was employed as the Chief Financial Officer for Corbon in Sturgis at the time of his death. He was a member of the Sturgis Chamber of Commerce and the Harley Owners Group. He enjoyed motorcycling, watering his trees, his honesty and caring for other people.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Beckel, Sturgis; one daughter, Jacqueline Beckel, St. Paul, Minn.; two step-daughters, Allison (Jeff) Brausen, Coon Rapids, Minn. and Kimberley Boudreau, Minnetonka, Minn,; two brothers, Thomas Beckel, Minneapolis and David Beckel, Wauseca, Minn.; three sisters, Vicki (Steve) Pearson, Prior Lake, Minn., Judy (Terry) Vogel, Bowling Green, Ky. and Linda (Mitch) Dennison, Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis with Father Arnold Kari officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 8 a.m. until service time at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. A memorial has been established to the local Relay for Life. 1942-2009

Patricia E. Wendroth-Merriott, 67, of Austin, died Monday afternoon, Nov. 16, 2009 at her home in Austin.

She was born March 1, 1942 to Burt and Myrtle (Warner) Shadrick in Sherburn, Minn. Patricia grew up in Eden Valley and lived in St. Peter for many years, before moving to Austin where she worked as a nursing assistant at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home for 15 years. She was a dedicated worker, always making sure her work got done. Known as “Mom” by numerous friends, Patricia loved scrapbooking and taking care of her flowers in the garden.

She was the loving mother of Tammi (Brian) Bustad of Rose Creek; Terri Wendroth of Liberty; N.C., James S. (Anne) Wendroth of Kasota; Danial (Shelly) Wendroth of Austin; Penni (Patrick) Nelson of Austin; and Patsi (Matthew) Belden of Austin.

Also surviving are 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Edwin (Gracie) Archer of Adrian, Willis (Ruby) Archer of St. Peter, Dennis (Dee) Archer of Eagle River, Alaska, Dale (Lois) Archer of Loveland, Colo., Randall (Gellie) Archer of Loveland, Colo.; sister, Bev Archer; many nieces, nephews, other relatives; and friends including special friends, James C. and Karen Wendroth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandmother, May Warner; stepfather, Danial Archer.

Cleone Vivian (Domino) Hubbard

1908-2003

Cleone Vivian Hubbard, 94, of Austin, died Sunday, February 16, 2003, at the Austin Medical Center.

She was born April 6, 1908, in Nemaha, Iowa, to Walter and Eva (Tosland) Domino. The family moved to Odebolt, Iowa and later to Waltham, Minn. They lived in several areas in Mower County. Cleone attended Austin High School. After completing her education, she worked at the overall factory, Geo. A. Hormel Company and, for 10 years, at Fantle's Department Store.

On Aug. 23, 1926, she married William Hubbard at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Austin. He died Dec. 9, 1991. Cleone was a former member of the Church of Christ, which she joined in 1932.

Survivors include her son, Richard Hubbard, Coon Rapids; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Maurine (Louis) Jan, Austin; brother, Rex (Agnes) Domino, Adams; sister-in-law, Edna Hubbard, Mabel; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Betty Hubbard; brothers, Victor and Glenn; and sister, Lola.

Visitation: 12:30 p.m. Friday until the service at the funeral home.

Helen Louise Miller, 73, of Austin, died Sunday, February 16, 2003, at her home.

She was born Nov. 30, 1929, in Minneapolis, to Ole and Helga (Rynning) Benton. She graduated from Marshall High School, Minneapolis, in 1947.

On June 23, 1951, she married Herman Miller in Minneapolis. They moved to Grand Meadow, then to Austin. Helen was a homemaker and an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, the Austin YMCA and the Austin Country Club. She was an avid tennis player, ballroom dancer and line dancer. She also enjoyed bridge, bird watching, cooking and sewing.

Survivors include husband, Herman Miller M.D., Austin; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg Miller and Carol Wiebe, Minneapolis; Geoffrey and Margi Miller, Hudson, Wis.; two granddaughters; sisters, Ardis Whipps, Mora; Orla Perrault, Monrovia, Calif.; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.

Betty Jane Bednar, 78, of Austin, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home, Austin

She was born Nov. 2, 1924, in Austin, to Loren and Ida (Boettcher) Lorimor. She graduated from Austin High School in 1942.

On January 20, 1945, she married Donald Bednar at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. Donald died Sept. 30, 1982.

In November of 2000, Betty moved to St. Mark's Lutheran Home. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and WELCA.

Survivors include sons, Dennis (Michaell) Bednar and Bradley (Susan) Bednar, all of Austin; Gene (Karee) Bednar, Fargo, N.D.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Jody Bednar; a great-granddaughter; and brothers and sisters, Francis Coyle, Inez Huber, Dail Lorimor, Lee Lorimor, Arnold "Barney" Lorimor and Mary Ann Hrubetz.

James C. Cassidy

1919-2003

James C. Cassidy, 83, of Austin, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at Austin Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 30, 1919, in Austin, to Charles and Carrie Cassidy.

He graduated from St. Augustine High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1941. He was a decorated World War II veteran, served in the Philippines and Asiatic Pacific Theatre and received the Purple Heart.

In his younger years, he was an avid golfer, a member of several bowling teams and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He retired from George A. Hormel Company in 1986, after 44 years. He spent his last 12 years at St. Mark's Apartments, where he served on the residence council and enjoyed playing cards, taking walks and volunteering at the nursing home.

Survivors include children, Mary Hele (David), Minneapolis; Judy Cleveland, Eden Prairie; Scott (Joyce), New Prague; Mike, Minneapolis; Tim (Patricia), Saudi Arabia; Wade, Elmore; Jon, Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; mother-in-law, Ruth Cambern; companion, Ardella Haldorson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosemary; and son, Tom.

Visitation: At a luncheon in the church fellowship room following the service.

Cecilia J. Thiele, 45, of Bentonville, Arkansas, and formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rogers, Arkansas.

She was born Oct. 11, 1957, in Austin, to Delmer and June (Vickerman) Allen. She attended Queen of Angels Church and Pacelli High School. She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.

She was a parent educator for the Bentonville School District, director for the Parents as Teachers program that worked with parents with children ages newborn to kindergarten. She was also actively involved in St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Bentonville as well as Boy Scout Troop 525 and the Boys and Girls Club Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Galen Thiele; children, Joseph, Benjamin and Laura, all at home; parents, Delmer and June Allen, Austin; sisters, Mary (Stillman) Knight, Montrose, Ala.; Judy (Tom) Keen, Washington, D.C.; Deborah (David) Novak, Minneapolis; Bridget (John) Kronmiller, Sturgess, S.D.

Olga Ann Bungum, 89, of Austin, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

She was born Jan. 19, 1914, to Fred and Alma (Geuder) Ortman in Guttenberg, Iowa. She attended schools in the area.

She married Gordon P. Bungum and they lived in Hayfield in the 1930's. In 1941, they moved to Austin. They were members of St. Olaf Lutheran Church where Olga was involved in Bible study and circle. She also liked to sew.

She moved to St. Mark's Lutheran Home in January 1997.

Survivors include daughter, Sharon (Harold) Johnson, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Bernice McConnell, Webster City, Iowa; sister-in-law, Lauria Ortman, Denver, Colo.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Miriam Kientop; and brother, Robert Ortman.

On Jan. 31, 1953, she married Robert G. Carlson in Austin.

Shirley was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

He was born April 2, 1910, in Athol, South Dakota, to Peter and Elizabeth (Nolan) McCloskey. He graduated from Athol High School in 1930.

On October 12, 1938, he married Catherine C. "Cassie" Crilly.

Gene worked for the George A. Hormel Company in Austin for 42 years before retiring in 1972. He and Cassie also farmed near Rose Creek for over 50 years and owned the Elkton Meat Locker in the early 1950's.

Gene was a member and trustee of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rose Creek and a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Rose Creek School Board, the Marshall Township Board, Mower County DFL Treasurer and the P9 Union. He was involved in volunteer work, especially at Burr Oak Manor in Austin.

He enjoyed music and square dancing, fishing, traveling, picnics on the farm and helping people.

Survivors include daughters, Donna (Robert) Johnson, Broadbent, Ore.; Carol (Joe) Hoehn, Worthington; Pat Hanson, Winona; son, Tom (Linda) McCloskey, Dennison; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Cummings, Rochester; sister-in-law, Mildred Malone, Burnsville; nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife; brothers, Francis, Paul and Bob (Mary); brother-in-law, Duane Cummings; sisters, Redempta O'Neill (Jim) and Bernadine Fitzgerald (Cyril); in-laws, Leota and Ben Reinartz, Edna and Emmett Thomas, Agnes and Henry Hass, William and Violet Crilly, William Malone.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, with a 6:30 p.m. wake service and Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating.

Interment: St. Peter's Cemetery, Rose Creek.

Funeral Home: Mayer Funeral Home, Austin.

Pamela Sherman

Pamela Sherman, 62, of Minneapolis, and formerly of Austin, died Monday, February 3, in Tijuana, Mexico after a brief, but hard fought battle with bile duct cancer.

Mother, artist, entrepreneur, teacher, writer and perennial student of life, Pam was a founding partner of the New French Cafe in Minneapolis as well as several other business ventures. She was an irreplaceable woman and a tremendous loss for those around her.

Pam is survived by daughters, Kirsten (Kiki) Nobbe, Alice Sherman, Jane Sherman, all of Minneapolis; mother, Clemecia Carlson, Minneapolis; sister, Patricia (Harvey) Hutchings, Rochester, Minn.; niece, Wendy; and nephews, Jon and Robert.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Carlson.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the Illusion Theater Company at the Hennepin Center for the Arts, 526 Hennepin Ave. South, Minneapolis, Minn. Memorials are suggested to "Raising Dough for Pam" 2308 West 50th St., Minneapolis, MN 55410.
