Sharon L. (nee Grover) Leier 1936-2003
Sharon L. (Grover) Leier, age 67, formerly of Austin, died Sunday,
May 11, 2003, at the Austin Medical Center.
Sharon was born Jan. 23, 1936, in Austin, Minn. to Richard and Gae
(Greenlee) Grover.
She went on to become a nursing assistant at Little Sisters of the Poor
in St. Paul. Sharon wanted to be remembered for her years of service as a
caretaker at Little Sisters of the Poor taking care of the elderly.
She loved spending time at "Sally's" with her sisters and loved the
family Christmases in Harmony, Minn.
Survivors include four children: Greg Moore, Lino Lakes; Laura (Dwight)
Weiring, Minneapolis; Julie (Mike) Munos, South St. Paul; Brian Smith, St.
Paul; 11 grandchildren; sisters and brothers: Phyllis (Don) Hall, Austin;
Dick (Linda) Grover, Harmony; Bill (Mary) Grover, Austin; Shirley Brown,
Austin; Fred Grover, Louisiana; Linda (Mike) Burzinski, Brownsdale; Kathy
Grover, Minneapolis; Deb (Mike) Roberts, St. Francis; Joy Metz, Shakopee;
nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Jeanne Fox and Patty
Grover.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2003, at
Crane Community Chapel with Pastor Randy Petersen and Pastor Dennis McGrane
officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Mayer Funeral
Home and one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will
be in Calvary Cemetery.
The casket bearers will be Don Hall, Josh Brown, Tom Roberts, Brian
Smith, Rick Hall and Mike Roberts.

Darwin D. "Teats" Miller 1938-2003
Darwin D. "Teats" Miller, age 64, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota,
died Thursday, May 15, 2003, at his home after a two year battle with
esophageal cancer.
Teats was born July 4, 1938, in Austin to Robert E. and Mabel C. (Kvam)
Miller. He attended Austin Public Schools. On September 5, 1959, he was
united in marriage to Sharon R. Reed at St. Augustine Catholic Church in
Austin. Teats was a self taught mechanic, starting with bicycles and ending
with heavy equipment. He worked for Curtis Rambler in the 1950's, B&B Auto
Service, Jim Leben's Fordtown and 28 years with Ulland Brothers Construction. He lived and breathed pheasant hunting, in the field or at flea markets where anything with a ringneck was added to his collection. Teats loved his family and enjoyed keeping their vehicles running.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Sharon Miller, Austin; three daughters and sons-in-law: Cynthia (Doug) Mulder, Medford; Cheryl (Bryan) Hernandez, Blooming Prairie; Candy (Carl) Mullenbach, Mapleview; eight grandchildren: Matthew and Cassandra Mulder; Jacinta, Jesse and Bryan Hernandez; Joseph, Andrea and Steven Mullenbach; two sisters: Darlene Bos, Austin; Christine Castle, Rochester; two brothers: Ronald (Judy) Miller, Austin; David Miller, Austin; nieces; nephews; cousins; aunts; and uncles.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, James; grandson, Mitchell Mulder.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2003, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Harry Jewison officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. and also from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The honorary casket bearers will be Jacinta Hernandez, Andrea Mullenbach and Cassandra Mulder. The casket bearers will be Matthew Mulder, Joseph and Steven Mullenbach, Jesse and Bryan Hernandez and Jeff Brady.

Roger Joseph Peck 1930-2003
Roger Joseph Peck, 73, of Grand Meadow, died Sunday May 11, 2003, at Grand Meadow Health Care Center, Grand Meadow.
He was born April 22, 1930, in Austin, to Frank and Mayme (Krob) Peck.
He graduated from Austin High School in 1948, then attended Austin Junior College, the University of Minnesota, Fresno State College, and Mankato State University where he earned his masters degree. He then taught business courses at Grand Meadow High School for over 30 years. He also worked as a crop adjuster for Rain and Hail Insurance Bureau for many summers.
In December of 1952 he married Nancy Hubbard in Mankato. They had four children.
Roger enjoyed reading, hunting, bowling and golf. He was a volunteer fireman, member of the Lions Club, City Council, and had served as the Mayor of Grand Meadow and was on the Mower County Planning & Zoning Board for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy, Grand Meadow; sons, Kelly (Dori), Montevideo; Thomas (Julie), Grand Meadow; daughter, Tracy (Mark) Jacobson, Grand Meadow; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David; and son, David.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at the funeral home and Wednesday at the church for one hour before the service.
Service: 1 p.m. Wednesday at the United Church in Grand Meadow with the Rev. Greg Strunk officiating.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.

Robert Neal Radloff 1940-2003
Robert Neal Radloff, age 62, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died
Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at his home.
He was born July 5, 1940, to Fred A. and Ella (Lukes) Radloff in Austin.
He grew up in rural London and was active in FFA and 4-H. After graduation
from Austin High School in 1958, he attended the University of Minnesota,
majoring in ag economics and animal husbandry.
On June 10, 1967, he married Susan Johnson at Westminster Presbyterian Church. They lived in Sun Prairie and Madison, Wis. before moving to Austin in 1971.
Bob began working as a farm sales rep in Wisconsin, then moved to Austin and bought the Austin Seed Company. He later sold the business and became an auctioneer.
He belonged to Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he was involved in choir. Membership in civic groups included board member of the Mower County Historical Society, president of the Root River Antique Historical Power Association, member and past president of Rotary, member of the Elks, board member of the Paramount Theater and a member of the Mower County Fair Board.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; daughters, Beth (Mark) Becker, Hokah; Brenda (Jeff) Lund, New Ulm; two grandchildren; sisters, Elda Amundson, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Lucille Watney, Northwood, Iowa; brother, Ronald Radloff, Austin; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Fred Jr.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2003, at the funeral home and Saturday at the church for one hour before the service.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael Olmsted officiating.
Interment: London Cemetery, London.

Rachael L. Rutledgeca. 1925-2003
Rachael L. Rutledge, 77, died Friday morning, May 2, 200, at The Cedars
of Austin.
She was born in Chatfield. She married John L. Rutledge, who is now
deceased. A lifelong Austin resident, she worked at the Sears store in
Austin for 10 years. She was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church
and the Austin Art Club.
Survivors include two sons, Terry Rutledge, California; Tom (Amy)
Rutledge, Pine Island; one sister, Susan Mildenstein, Austin; three
grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Vivian) Coe, Chatfield; two sisters,
Evelyn Becker, Chatfield; Dorothy Paquette, McGregor; many nieces, nephews,
relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Visitation: Tuesday, May 6, 2003, one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Anthony F. Schmidt 1921-2003
Anthony F. "Tony" Schmidt, age 81, of Austin, died Sunday, May 11, 2003,
at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Tony was born Aug. 9, 1921, in Walters, Minn. to Joseph and Catherine
(Fisher) Schmidt.
He served in the US Naval Air Force from 1942 to 1945. On Nov. 12, 1946,
he was united in marriage to Kathryn Kiefer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church
in Adams, Minn.
He was a neon tube bender and former owner of Theissen Sign Company in
Austin. Tony was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Eagles, Knights of
Columbus and Queen of Angels Catholic Church.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, gardening and most recently playing
cards and telling stories. He loved spending time with his wife, family and
friends during holidays and reunions, and was always ready for a game of
cards or a conversation over coffee. No matter what life dealt him, Tony
maintained his good sense of humor. He will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his wife: Kay Schmidt, Austin; six sons: Bill (Patty)
Schmidt, Austin; Ron Schmidt, Detroit Lakes; Dave (Cathi) Schmidt, Rose

There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Wednesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #91 and VFW Post #1216.

Gertrude Emma (nee Beckman) Steinbach1914-2003
Gertrude Emma "Gert" Steinbach, 88, of Austin, died Sunday, May 4, 2003,
at Sacred Heart Care Center, Austin, Minnesota.
She was born Sept. 30, 1914, to Julius and Anna (Boelk) Beckman near
Waltham. She attended country school in the area.
On Dec. 2, 1937, she married Elger Steinbach at the Trinity Lutheran parsonage. They farmed in Udolpho Township for 62 years.
A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Gert belonged to the Ladies Aid and enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, gardening and sewing.
She entered Burr Oak Manor in November 1999 and moved to Sacred Heart in August 2001.
Survivors include her husband, Elger Steinbach, Austin; daughter, Janet (Daryl) Gehlbach, Brooklyn Center; two grandchildren; brothers, Ray (Irene) Beckman, Austin; Donald Beckman, Waltham; sister, Viola Gilderhus, Waltham; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at the funeral home and Thursday at the church for one hour before the service.

James P. Sydenstricker 1918-2003
James P. Sydenstricker, 84, of Austin, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at
Meadow Manor Nursing Home, Grand Meadow.
He was born June 25, 1918, in Bartlesville, Okla., to James and Felice
(Sheer) Sydenstricker. He graduated Odessa High School in Odessa, Missouri,
then attended Park College in Parkville, Missouri for two years and Missouri
University in Columbia, Missouri for two more years.
On Dec. 20, 1942, he married Marvella Gosnell at the Presbyterian church in Odessa, Mo.
Jim worked as a chemist for several years, then as a sales representative for the Abbot Laboratories for 18 years. He was an investment broker for 10 years, first with Dempsey Tegler and later Lowie Investments. He was also director of the Mower County Senior Citizens Center for six years.
Jim was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Austin Noon Lions Club, past president of the United Way, Cerebral Palsy, and the Mental Health Association. He enjoyed golf, antique collecting, woodworking, gardening, and stamp collecting.
Survivors include his wife, Marvella Sydenstricker, Austin; son, James Michael Sydenstricker, Austin; sister, Sarah Lee Ferguson, Odessa, Mo.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at the funeral home and Thursday at the church for one hour before the service.

Richard L. Terry 1919-2003
Richard L. Terry, age 83, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died
Saturday, May 24, 2003, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Dick was born August 15, 1919, in Austin, to Cash and Bessie
(Thomson) Terry. He graduated from Austin Central High School in 1937,
then went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945.
He married Shirley Swenson in San Diego, Calif. on July 12, 1942, and
together they had two children. Dick worked at Hormel for 43 years. He was a
member of the First Congregational Church, the American Legion, and the Elks.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, at
Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and Thursday at the church one hour before the
service. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 29, 2003, at 1:30
p.m. at First Congregational Church with the Rev. James Peck officiating.
He is survived by daughter: Pamela Terry of Austin, Minn.; son and
daughter-in-law: Philip and Harriet Terry of St. Cloud, Minn.; grandsons:
Adam, Jay and Joel Terry of St. Cloud, Minn.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Shirley Terry; parents; and

Helen Louise (nee Claybourne) White 1915-2003
Helen Louise Munson White, age 88, of Buffalo and formerly of Austin,
died on Tuesday, May 6 at 3:20 a.m. at Sunrise Cottages in Buffalo.
She was born on March 6, 1915, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Wayne and
Myrtle (Dowd) Claybourne.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Myrtle and Wayne Claybourne; a
brother, Willard Claybourne; sisters, Trudy (James) Hill and Florence
(Gilbert) Johnson; husbands, William Munson and Orris White.
She is survived by a son, Rev. Charles L. (Bonnie) Munson of Milaca;
grandsons, Michael (Janelle) Munson and Richard Munson all of Delano,
Jeremy (Diane) Schultz of Orange Park, Fla.; a granddaughter, Ann (Eric)
Peterson of Millville; great-granddaughters, Samantha Jo Munson, Hannah
Schultz and Erin Peterson; other relatives and friends including (like a
daughter) Rose (Cecil) Haskin of Denver, Iowa.
Funeral services for Helen Munson White were held at 11 a.m. Thursday,
May 8, at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. Rev. Charles L. Munson officiated
and interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.
Friends called at the funeral home on Thursday, May 8, from 9 a.m. until
the time of service.

Grace Elsie (nee Novotny) Wilson 1920-2003
BURIAL IN OAKWOOD CEMETERY, AUSTIN
Grace Elsie Wilson, age 83, of Sterling Heights, died Thursday, May 8,
2003, at Father Murray Nursing Home.
Grace E. (Novotny) Wilson was born April 11, 1920, in LeCenter, Minn.,
the daughter of Anton and Ida (Ehmke) Novotny. She graduated from the
LeCenter High School and attended secretarial school.
She was married to Harry E. Wilson on Dec. 30, 1944, in St. Paul, Minn.
They resided in Austin where Grace was employed in food services at Ellis
Middle School, retiring as food service supervisor after 31 years.
She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and an active volunteer with KSMQ public television. She also enjoyed oil painting and a number of them were displayed around Austin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; son, Greg; and brother, Glenn Novotny.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St.
Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ronald Barnett officiating. Interment
will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be held at the
Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday for one
hour before the service at the church. The family prefer memorials to St.
Olaf Lutheran Church.
The organist will be Neal Erickson and the soloist will be Pat Hule. Casket bearers will be Richard Wilson, Michael Wilson, Steve Novotny, Keith Buehler, Dan Morem and John Hosmer.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law and husband, Jean and Jack LaFontaine of Grand Rapids, Mich.; grandsons and wives, Richard and Tisha Wilson of Grand Rapids, Mich., Michael and Bobbie Wilson of Center Line, Minn.; great-granddaughter, Kayla Marie Wilson; brother and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Arlene Novotny of Austin, Minn., Ephra Novotny of Pine River, Minn.; niece and husband, Sue and Tim Kruger; nephew, Steven Novotny of Byron, Minn.; cousins.

Edward Albert Uhlis 1928-2009
Edward Albert Uhlis, 81, of Faribault, Minnesota, and formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday morning, November 13, 2009, at Pleasant Manor in Faribault, Minn.
He was born April 3, 1928 in Faribault, the son of Edward and Victoria (Wheeler) Uhlis. He received his education in Albert Lea and in 1959, along with Stan and Rick Christiansen, he traveled to Greenland where they helped build the Thule Air Force Base. He fished in Alaska for king salmon for three years. Ed moved to Austin, where he was self-employed as a contractor and cabinet maker. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking, especially framing and matting pictures and was very crafty in his work. He married Lucille “Mitzi” Goeritz on May 24, 1975 in Austin. Ed moved to Pleasant Manor in Faribault in 2005 after suffering a stroke. Mitzi died on July 23, 2007.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Patricia Westrum of St. Louis Park, Minn.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Uhlis of St. Louis, Mo.; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mitzi; and son-in-law, Bob Westrum.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with the Rev. Glenn Monson and the Rev. Glennys Knutson officiating. Interment will be at the Woodville Cemetery in Waseca, Minn. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the Worlein Funeral Home. Honorary casketbearers will be Debbie and Neil Marty, Jeanette and Randy Bohland, Lisa and Bob Schmidt.

Orville Wallace Snater1930-2009
Orville W. Snater, 79, of Austin, died Saturday, November 14, 2009 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.
Orville Wallace Snater was born on February 26, 1930 in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the son of Ben H. and Agnes (Yocom) Snater. Orv attended Austin Public Schools, graduating in 1948.
Orv began playing bass horn in area old time bands at age 16 and after graduating, joined the Viking Accordion Band in Albert Lea, touring the five state midwest area. In 1951 Orv enlisted in the U.S. Army and played in Army bands stateside until being sent to Korea. He was sent into combat to recapture "Old Baldy" and was wounded by mortar fire. He spent the last years of his enlistment in hospitals in Japan, Hawaii and Denver, Colo., where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Upon discharge from the Army in 1954, Orv returned to Austin.
Orv's employment years were spent in the car business from service and maintenance to sales. He built his own stock car and raced at area race tracks, drove OTR semi for 10 years and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He enjoyed 50 years of professional music, playing in several area dance bands, including the Henry Charles Orchestra, Curt Wilkinson Band and his own band, Five From Dixie. He volunteered in the Riverland Theatre Orchestra and the Austin City Band.
After retirement, Orv's hobby of fixing up used bikes and giving them away to anyone in need earned him the title of "The Bike Man." His final giveaway included 150 bikes, boxes of parts, tires and tubes — all shipped to a mission in Haiti, sponsored by First United Methodist Church.
Orville Snater married Alice Kautzky in St. Patrick's Church in Perry, Iowa on Sept. 17, 1955 and they made their home in Austin these past 54 years. His passions in life were his family, his music, needy children and his pets.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; sons, Mark, Mike (Sue), John (Tracey); daughters, Dianne (Dave), Theresa (Steve), Kirsten (Wayne); 15 grandchildren; four great-grandsons; sisters, Doris Hargis, Austin, Judy (Richard) Norwich, Flagstaff, Ariz.; and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Agnes Snater; brother, Duane; nephew, Greg; and an infant son.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson and Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 7 p.m. wake service on Tuesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. The family will also greet friends at a luncheon following the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #91 and V.F.W. Post #1216.

Linda Kathryn (Winkels) Lipovsky1940-2009
Linda Kathryn (Winkels) Lipovsky, 68, of South Beloit, Illinois, passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, in her home surrounded by family.
Born Dec. 25, 1940, in Austin, the daughter of Anthony J. and Lillian (Vilt) Winkels. She married Anthony J. Lipovsky on Jan. 28, 1960, in Austin. She was employed by J.L. Clark for many years and was a teacher at Christian Life School.
Linda was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Loves Park, Ill. She doted on her grandchildren and loved to collect angels.

There will be a service at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Delehanty Funeral Home Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, Ill., with Father Jerome Koutnik officiating. There will be a burial in Harlem Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, in the funeral home, with scripture service at 8 p.m.

David R. Averbook (died 2003)
David Raphael Averbook, 92, from North Miami, Fla., died June 9, 2003, after complications from a stroke. He was originally from Duluth, Minn.
David is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mae Usem Averbook; his sister, Anita Ravage of New York City; and his three devoted sons Daniel (Ellen) from Miami Beach, Arthur of Hollywood, Charles (Debbie) Averbook from Boca Raton and Roz Sherman Averbook from North Miami Beach. He was adored by his seven beautiful grandchildren, Sara, Margo (Yechiel), Amy, Rebecca, Joseph, Jennifer and Michael Averbook.
David spent the majority of his career in Austin, Minn., where he was an inspirational community leader and was the president of many organizations including the Rotary Club, Toastmaster Club, Civic Music Association, PTA, Board of Realtors, Jewish Welfare Fund, and Parks & Recreation Assoc. He also was on the Board of Directors of the Austin Country Club, the Planning Commission, YMCA, Boy Scouts, and the Minnesota Hotel Association. David had a variety of different businesses including the Averbooks Department store, Averbook Realty, Austin Hotel, the Alcove restaurant, but his favorite was Raphael's Stained Glass, a business he started after retiring at 60 and moving to Florida. The business in Miami Shores on Biscayne Blvd. grew to become the largest stained glass studio in Miami for almost 20 years, when he finally retired again at 80. David still has his stained glass creations all over Miami and the Caribbean.
David was gifted with a photographic memory which he inherited from his father, Joseph M. Averbook, who lived to be 96 and an incredible gift of musical ability he inherited from his mother, Anna Averbook, who lived to 105. David could enthusiastically play anything by ear on the piano and organ. He also was an accomplished artist and sculptor and an expert handyman. In his earlier adult life, he enjoyed bowling, golf and was the intramural ping pong champ at the University of Minnesota. He was a wordsmith and could solve the toughest anagrams. At 85, he quickly learned the computer and became the resident graphic artist at Bayview Towers where he had been living the last 28 years with Mae in North Miami. David's keen sense of humor, music, charity and good deeds impressed everyone.

Harry Barnette Jr. 1932-2003
Harry Barnette Jr., 71, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Austin Medical Center.
He was born April 11, 1932, in Newfolden, to Harry Barnette, Sr. and Ruth (Hansen) Barnette.
On May 4, 1963, he married Ramona Beckel in Rochester.
Mr. Barnette was an installer for AT&T for 35 years.
Survivors include his wife, Ramona Barnette, Austin; son, Randy Barnette, Austin; father, Harry Barnette, Sr., Spring Park; sister, Faye (Roger) Femrite, Tonka Bay.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, June 26, 2003, at the funeral home and Friday at the church for one hour before the service.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Casket bearers will be Tim Monson, Duane Monson, Bill Apold, Bud Lau, Nick Slezak and Ambrose Derhaag.

Jeffrey Alan Beckel 1956-2003
Jeffrey Alan Beckel, age 46, formerly of Austin, died on Wednesday, May 21, 2003, in Idaho Springs, Colo.
Jeffrey was born on Oct. 17, 1956, to Leonard and Anne (Jones) Beckel in Austin, Minn. He graduated from Austin High School in 1975 and attended Austin Community College. He graduated from Anoka Technical School in 1982 with a degree in electrical design. He was employed as a project manager for Swanson/Rink Consulting Engineers in Denver.
On Sept. 20, 1980, he married Laurie Fowler of Littleton, Colo., in Prior Lake, Minn. They lived in Minneapolis until their relocation to Denver in 1986.
Jeff was the former building governor and member of Washington Park United Church of Christ, an active member of the Clear Creek Fire Authority and recently completed the Foothills Fire Academy. He was also pursuing a Black Belt in Kung Fu and was an active participant in the Tommy Knockers Social Club.
Jeff loved laughing and entertaining everyone with his stories, skiing, hiking and fishing. He also loved taking care of his twin granddaughters, Mya and Lise.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Laurie, Idaho Springs, Colo.; daughter and son-in-law, Yaisa and Nathan Banek, Lakewood, Colo.; son, Nathan, Idaho Springs, Colo.; granddaughters, Mya and Lise Banek; father, Leonard Beckel, Park Rapids, Minn.; sisters and brother-in-laws, Jeni and Brad Lindberg, Austin, Minn.; Laura and Tom Schmidt, Vacaville, Calif.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Greg Beckel, Golden Valley, Minn.; Tony and Julie Beckel, Minneapolis; Andy and Paula Beckel, Lakeville, Minn.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hugh and Shirley Fowler, Denver, Colo.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chuck and Cindy Fowler, Denver, Colo.; aunts and uncle, John and Jane Jones, Sally Wilson, Dorothy McMichael; nephews, Scott and Michael Lindberg, Jack Beckel; nieces, Emily Fowler, Kate Beckel; and cousins.

Francine Hazel (Steinberger) Berg 1922-2003
Francine Hazel Berg, 81, of Austin, Minnesota, died June 1, 2003, at her daughter's home.
She was born January 4, 1922, in Armstrong, Iowa, to Harry and Evana Steinberger.
Francine was a housewife and a member of First Methodist. She also belonged to the Women's League at the Salvation Army.
She enjoyed her flower garden, knitting, sewing and collecting dolls.
Survivors include her children, Harry (Carol) Hansen, Austin; Vanna Ray (Peter) Nielsen, Austin; Terry (Sharon) Berg, South Beloit, Ill.; Penny Nolta, Austin; son-in-law, Niel Groth, Lonsdale; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Bernadine (Herb) Petersen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Berg; parents; and children, Starlene Groth and Gregory Berg.

Vesta M. (nee King) BERGLAND 1922-2003
Vesta M. Bergland, 81, of Adams, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Adams Health Care Center.
She was born May 10, 1922, to George and Eva (Johnson) King, in Riceville, Iowa, where she grew up and attended school.
She later moved with her family to Austin, where she eventually began to work for the Hormel Foods Corporation. She worked at Hormel for over 35 years. She lived at St. Mark's Apartments before moving to the Cedar Court apartments in Adams.
Vesta enjoyed traveling and growing flowers.
Survivors include brothers, Marreld King, Alma, Iowa; Melvin King, Austin; sister, Irene Weber, LeRoy; brother-in-law, Loren Murphy, Rose Creek; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
Visitation: One hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the funeral home with Pastor Cathy Mannel officiating.

Patricia A. (Downs) CHAPEK 1933-2003
Patricia A. Chapek, 69, of Austin, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center.
She was born Sept. 14, 1933, in Austin, to Richard and Freida (Douglas) Downs.
Patricia grew up in Austin and, in 1951, graduated from Austin High School.
In August 1957 she married Elmer Chapek. They had two sons. The couple divorced in 1984.
Patricia was employed as a veterinarian assistant and worked for various political organizations.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, sang in the Chancel Choir for years, League of Women Voters in Albert Lea and Groundswell, an organization which fought for farmers' rights.
Survivors include her sons, Greg Chapek, Truman; Brian Chapel, Austin; one grandchild; sisters and brother-in-law, Evon and Robert Troester, Austin; Dixie Hanson, Austin; Kathy Anderson, Austin; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Norma Lee Downs.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2003, at the mortuary and Friday at the church for one hour before the service.

Vern Dayc1932-2003
Vern Day, 70, of Springfield, Missouri, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at home of a sudden cardiac arrest.
He was born in Grand Rivers, Iowa and graduated from high school in Osceola, Iowa. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army, attending Army Aviation School and serving from 1953 to 1955. On July 31, 1959, he married Phyllis.
Vern retired from a long career as a sales representative.
In Springfield, Mo., he was a member of Schweitzer United Methodist Church and the Rangers Square Dancing Club. He enjoyed golfing, waterskiing and traveling with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; children, Norman, David, Cindy and Scott; two grandchildren; brother, Earl Day; sister, Aletha Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Charles Day.
Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2003, at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.

Susan R. (nee Tobar) Gardner 1960-2003
Susan R. Gardner (Tobar), age 43, of Austin, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at her home.
She was born Feb. 27, 1960, in Austin, Minn., to Floyd and Glennellen (Thompson) Tobar. Susan graduated from Pacelli High School in 1978, then went on to Austin Vo-Tech to become a LPN.
She married John Gardner at Queen of Angels Catholic Church on Oct. 6, 1979. Susan worked as a LPN at Sacred Heart Care Center.
Susan was a CPR instructor for the American Red Cross, an avid bingo player and enjoyed the computer and Internet surfing. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 5, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with Randy Stahl officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be held at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday one hour before the service at the mortuary.
Honorary bearers will be Michael Lane, Melissa Stundahl and Elvin Silvestry.
Casket bearers will be John Gardner Jr., Terry McBain, Ron Whalen, Tom McBain, Tony Bina and Ron Hareid.

Wesley James "Bill" Glynn1910-2003
Wesley James "Bill" Glynn, 92, of Austin, died Thursday afternoon, June 5, 2003, at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center.
He was born Aug. 7, 1910, to James and Addie (Goodsell) Glynn in Sumner, Township, Fillmore County. He married Eleanor Christensen on Sept. 24, 1939, in Lakefield. Bill worked at Hormel Foods for 36 years. A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, he also belonged to the Mower County Humane Society.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Glynn, Austin; sons, Greg Glynn, Burnsville; John (Kathy) Glynn, Ellendale; one grandson; sisters-in-law, Alveen Glynn, Grand Meadow; Inez Glynn, Aitkin; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home and at the church one hour before the service on Monday.

Helen Johanna Dorothea (nee Blom) Gordon 1904-2003
Helen Johanna Dorothea Gordon was born in Marshall Township, Mower County, Minn., to Swedish immigrants Charles V. Blom and Mathilda (Malmquist) Blom on Jan. 7, 1904. She died on Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Adams Health Care Center.
When she was three years of age, the family homesteaded in Devils Lake, N.D. They had been there only one month when her mother died of typhoid fever. Her aunt, who had made the trip with them and was caring for her brother, Helen and their baby sister, also became ill with typhoid fever and died. Her father then moved the family back to Rose Creek, Minn., where the children were cared for by relatives. Some time thereafter, her father was remarried to Annie Rolf, who raised Helen, her older brother, a half-brother and a half-sister. Her baby sister had been adopted by relatives in Austin shortly after their return from North Dakota.
Helen was baptized and confirmed at Hoflanda Swedish Lutheran Church in Marshall Township and was married to Purl Gordon at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church parsonage in Austin on June 3, 1925. To this union, three daughters were born: Dorothy (Raymond) Sayles, Austin, Minn.; Lavonne (Gayle) Bergstrom, Adams, Minn.; and Carol Bloxham, Bettendorf, Iowa. They survive. Survivors also include 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The couple farmed in Windom Township until Purl's death in 1974. Helen remained on the farm until 1989 when she went to live at the Cedars of Austin, remaining there until she entered the Adams Health Care Center in October 2001. She enjoyed doing needlework and was particularly adept at the art of tatting. She was a charter member of the BBB Club, a neighborhood birthday club which has been thriving for over 60 years. She was a member of St. Olaf Church for the past 78 years and attended church circle when she was able.
Visitation will be held at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and at the church one hour before the service. Funeral services will be held at St. Olaf Lutheran Church on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Roberta Flood officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Sayles, Dean Sayles, Bruce Bergstrom, Blair Bergstrom, Richard Bergstrom and Darin Bloxham.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Purl; brother, Oscar Blom; sister, May Erickson; half-brother, Clinton Blom; half-sister, Gladys Fenske; and a grandson, Mark Sayles.

Mabel J. (nee Knutson) Haskin 1913-2003
Mabel J. Haskin, 90, of Austin, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.
She was born June 13, 1913, to Brown and Lena (Siem) Knutson, in Ada, where she grew up and attended school.
In 1939, she moved to Austin and worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Meany.
On Jan. 20, 1946, she married Marvin Haskin in Austin. They farmed until 1965, when they moved back to Austin. In July 2002, Mabel moved to St Mark's Lutheran Home.
She was a charter member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and was part of the Neighborhood Birthday Club. She was active in the Ladies Circle at church and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Joy Haskin, Ridge Crest, Calif.; one grandson; sisters and brother-in-law, Gladys and Norman Erickson, Detroit Lakes; Corrine O'Neil, Redmond, Wash.; brother and sisters-in-law, Fern Knutson, Scottsdale, Ariz.; Roger and Kay Knutson, Washington; stepbrother and wife, Manley "Bud" and Alice Knutson, Inver Grove Heights; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today, June 16, 2003, at the mortuary and Tuesday at the church for one hour before the service.
Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with the Rev. Glenn L. Monson officiating.

Beverly A. Hoban 1930-2003
Beverly A. Hoban, age 72, of Austin, died quietly in the comfort of her home with her family on Monday, June 9, 2003.
She was born Oct. 23, 1930, in Waterville, Minn., to William and Martha (Long) Bartelt. She graduated from Waterville High School in 1948.
Beverly married Donald Hoban on May 20, 1950, in Waterville, Minn. Together they raised five sons and one daughter.
Beverly worked as a waitress at the Austin Country Club and The Old Mill for many years. She was a member at Christ Episcopal Church.
Beverly was known for her sense of humor and her love of family. She also enjoyed golfing.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 13, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Scott Monson officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be held at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Friday from noon to 12:30. The organist will be Scott Blankenbaker. Casket bearers will be Douglas Hoban, Gary Hoban, Thomas Hoban, Bradley Hoban, Donald Hoban, Jr. and Richard Fett.

Harold R. James 1922-2003
Harold R. James, age 81, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City, Iowa.
Harold was born March 29, 1922, in Moscow Township, Freeborn County, to Leon James and Laura (Bendickson) James, as the oldest of three children.
Harold moved to Austin in 1938, where he was employed by Hormel Foods, Pure Carbonic Co. and later for Railway Express of Austin. He married Pearl Mae Wallem Aug. 31, 1944, in South Dakota. He was inducted into our Armed Services in 1945, where he maintained the peace and reconstruction of post-war Korea and the Philippines until discharge in 1946. He had one daughter, Kathleen Ann James in 1951. In 1962, Harold heeded his calling to return to the farm and he moved his family to a farm south of Blooming Prairie in 1962. He was known for his gardening abilities, as he and his wife maintained a large, beautiful garden of flowers, fruits and vegetables worthy of recognition.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin staring in 1954, where he spent a great deal of the 1950s and 60s as a member of the Church council. He was also well known as a church usher for over 35 years.
Known as a man of great humor and integrity, he was a friend to many. He could visit with and charm anyone with his great personality; young, old or in between. He was a lover of good music and an exceptional dancer, as many of his friends could attest. His other passions included fishing, hunting and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl (Wallem) James of Austin; brother, Charles James and sister-in-law, Francine James of Austin; brother-in-law, Harry Wallem of Brownsdale; daughter, Kathleen (James) Hagaman and son-in-law, Fred Hagaman of Ames, Iowa; three grandchildren, Christopher Goodwin of Minneapolis, Benjamin Goodwin of Austin, Laura (Goodwin) Sauceda and grandson-in-law, Jeremias Sauceda of Ames, Iowa; one step-grandchild, Amy Taylor of Boone, Iowa; two great-grandchildren, Seth and Luke Sauceda; one step-great-grandchild, Jon Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Laura; and sister, Everialde (James) Klein.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Austin with interment at Oakland Midway Lutheran Cemetery.

Robert Cleo Johnson 1938-2003
Robert Cleo Johnson, 64, 3111 15th Ave. SW, Minot, N.D., died on Tuesday June 10, 2003, in his home from an apparent heart attack.
He was born on August 10, 1938, in Austin, Minn., to Cleo and Betty (Hanson) Johnson. He was raised in Austin and attended school there. Bob entered the United States Air Force on February 10, 1961, and served as an aircraft electrical systems technician. He was honorably discharged as a Tech Sergeant on February 28, 1981, after being stationed at Glasgow, Mont. AFB, Kirtland, N.M. AFB, and Minot, N.D. AFB.
He had received the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Air Force Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster.
Bob was once married to Judy Ness and they made their home in Minot. Following his retirement from the Air Force they remained in Minot.
He was united in marriage to Susan Johnson Bratvold on June 4, 1988, in Minot. He was employed at the North Kmart store in the sporting goods and automotive departments. Also, he worked at the Minot American Legion Post for a time. He retired in February of 1995 from Kmart and had been employed by Trinity Nursing Home as a maintenance engineer until the time of his death.
Bob was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and a former member of the Minot American Legion Post No. 26. He especially enjoyed wood working, fishing and yard work. He was described by his family as easy-going and mild-mannered with others, but a perfectionist when it came to wood working. He was caring and helpful with a constant concern for the welfare of others.
He lived life to the fullest, but most importantly, he was a family man.

Richard Clarence Kanne 1931-2003
Richard Clarence Kanne, 71, of rural Austin, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at his home
He was born on September 18, 1931, to Clarence and Minnie (Hinderer) Kanne in Waseca. He was baptized at home on November 8, 1931, and confirmed March 30, 1947, at Evangelical United Methodist Church in Waterville.
He graduated from Waterville High School in 1949. On Jan. 9, 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp in Minneapolis. He earned Private First Class status and was discharged at Camp Pendleton, Calif. on May 31, 1952.
On Oct. 27, 1956, he married Norma H. Ziegler at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Richard drove truck for five years and was a dispatcher for 15 years at (Darrell) Armstrong Trucking. He then worked at Lee Sand and Gravel and Ulland Brothers Construction, retiring at age 62.
He enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, traveling, dining out and spending time with family.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Kanne; sons, David Kanne (Lavaida Rocha) and Mike Kanne (Chris), all of Austin; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation: One hour before the service at the funeral home.
Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003, Worlein Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating.
Internment: Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216.

Urban John Klapperick 1913-2003
Urban John Klapperick, 89, of Austin, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Comforcare Good Samaritan Care Center.
He was born Dec. 7, 1913, in McIntire, Iowa, to Tony and Mary (Gerhartz) Klapperick.
On May 14, 1936, he married Alyce Mildred Nelson in Austin.
Urban was employed at Hormel Foods in Austin for 43 years. He was a licensed engineer and realtor associate.
Urban enjoyed fishing and golfing.
Survivors include his son, Tony (Judy) Klapperick, Big Lake; daughters, Mary Ann (Francis) Heimer, LaCrescent; Arlene Heimer, Austin; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Aug. 10, 2000, son, parents, stepmother and brother.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2003, with a 6:30 p.m. wake service and Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating.
Interment: Calvary Cemetery.

Walter R. LaTondresse 1911-2003
Walter R. LaTondresse, age 91, of Hopkins, and formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, June 6, 2003, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
Walter was born Oct. 10, 1911, in Chassell Township, Mich., to Eugene and Arminie (Soumis) LaTendresse.
He graduated from Chassell High School and earned his masters degree in industrial arts from Stout Institute in Menomonie, Wis.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Peck. She preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 1998. Beginning in 1938, Walt taught at Austin Junior College, the Austin Vocational School, and Austin High School and became head of the Industrial Arts department. Many in Austin remember sitting under his instruction. During World War II, he served with the Navy and helped to develop the aircraft repair and maintenance training program at Navy Pier in Chicago and reaching the rank of Second Lieutenant. In 1997, Walt became Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for the Austin Public Schools and oversaw the construction of many of Austin's school buildings including Ellis Junior High (the original building), Austin Vo-tech, and Austin State Community College.
Since retiring in 1974, he had resided in Austin at his home in Burr Oaks, and the Oaks Condominiums and at Sacred Heart Assisted Living Center. On May 30 of this year Walt moved to Augustana Chapel View Nursing Home to be near his son's family in Hopkins.
Survivors include his son: Andre (Barbara) LaTondresse, Hopkins; two grandchildren: Christopher and Claire; sister: Helen Schils.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife: Dorothy; brothers: Anatole, Cyril and Norbert; sisters: Edna "Sister Mary Sylvia" and Lorraine.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Monday (tonight) at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. and also from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #91.

David Herman Lidtke 1926-2003
David Herman Lidtke, 76, of LeRoy, died at the Adams Health Care Center, Adams.
He was born Nov. 24, 1926, in Lime Springs, Iowa, to Herman and Ruth (Davis) Lidtke. In the early 1940's, he worked and ran Lidtke Mill in Lime Springs, Iowa. He enlisted in the Army in February of 1945 and served until December of 1946. He was with the Military Police and served under General McArthur in Japan.
On Sept. 25, 1948, he married Leora Johnson at Bethany Lutheran Church in LeRoy. David worked as a baker at the Leroy bakery for about 18 years. He later worked until his retirement for the City of LeRoy as street commissioner.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with family.
Survivors include his wife, Leora, LeRoy; children, Susan (Mark) Pittelko, LeRoy; Dennis (Vickie) Lidtke, LeRoy; Michael (Tamara) Lidtke, LeRoy; Judy (Daniel) Winkels, LeRoy; Kevin Lidtke, LeRoy; Kathi (Nick) Bunne, LeRoy; Jerry Lidtke, Austin; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Roy (Ruth) Lidke, Lime Springs, Iowa; Paul (Donna) Lidtke, Lime Springs, Iowa; Charles (Carol) Lidtke, Waterloo, Iowa; sisters, Hope Souhrada, Lime Springs, Iowa; and Joy Reis, Cresco, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris Lidtke; and two grandsons.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the funeral home and Thursday at the church for one hour before the service.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the LeRoy Lutheran Church in LeRoy with the Rev. Tom Kolden officiating.

Helen (nee Beadell) Lukes 1912-2003
Helen Beadell Lukes, 91, died Friday, May 2, 2003, at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, Iowa.
She was born Feb. 9, 1912, in Austin, to Alvah E. and Bessie Soule Beadell, the youngest of six children. Her early years were spent on a farm in Lansing. She was a graduate of Austin High School.
On Oct. 30, 1930, she married Richard R. Lukes. They lived in several communities throughout Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska, moving to the Waterloo-Cedar Falls, Iowa area in 1976. Helen was a North Iowa representative of the American Cancer Society for a number of years while living in Algona, Iowa. Following a series of strokes in 1998 she moved to Clear Lake, Iowa.
She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, Iowa.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Jane Felger Lukes, Los Angeles, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Robert Broshar, Clear Lake, Iowa; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987; parents; brothers, Elester, Edwin, Clarence, Don and Walter; and half-sister, Mayre.
Memorial Services: Were held in Waterloo, Iowa with the Rev. Scott Paczkowski officiating.
Interment: Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.
Funeral Home: Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo, Iowa.

Luella Frederike Mohn 1903-2003
Luella Frederike Mohn, 99, of Austin, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at the Austin Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 27, 1903, in Hayfield, Minn., to Torgrim and Hannah Pauline (Bergum) Mohn.
After completing her education, Luella worked in Austin until moving to Chicago and becoming a receptionist at Lutheran Deaconess Home and Hospital. She was a member of First Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School. In 1963, she moved to St. Paul where she was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and Ruth Circle. A receptionist at Pillsbury Girls Club, Luella retired in 1972. She moved to Austin in 1982 where, as a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, she was active in the quilting group and Golden Years Club. At the time of her death she resided at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.
Survivors include sisters, Esther (Milton) Eggert, Austin; Fern Borge, Omaha, Neb.; brothers, Harry (Ruth) Mohn, Vernon Township; Truman (JoAnn) Mohn, Minneapolis; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Alfred, Thomas, Elmer, Ferdy and Palmer; and sisters, Geolina Fingarson, Minnie Himle, Martha Gilbertson, Gena Hanson, Josie Mohn and Hilma Youngdahl.
Visitation: One hour before the service at the church.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2003, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. Kristin K. Wee officiating.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery.
