Arnt B. Pedersen

1891-1968

Arnt B. Pedersen Funeral Held at First Lutheran [St. Ansgar, Iowa]

Funeral services for Arnt B. Pedersen, 77, of Mound, Minnesota who died at a Watertown, Minnesota hospital February 12, 1968 were held February 16 at 1 P.M. at First Lutheran Church here with the Reverend Don Comnick officiating.

Burial was in Six Mile Grove Lutheran Cemetery east of Lyle.

Arnt B. Peterson was born on November 25, 1891 in Tromso, Norway, the son of Tobias and Hannah Pedersen. He came to the United States at the age of 15 with his parents, settling in Grinnell where relatives were living. Later the family moved to Minneapolis where the father and two sons started a painting business which continued until 1940 when the elder Pedersen died.

Sometime later Mr. Arnt Pedersen, an interior decorator, retired from his business and moved to Mound, Minnesota on Lake Minnetonka.

Mr. Pedersen and his family were members of the Free Church in Norway.

Survivors include his wife, the former Lillian Ostenson of Lyle, and now of Mound; one brother, John of Plymouth, Minnesota; one sister, Mrs. Hedwig Angelikis of Minneapolis.

Verla May (nee Larson) Thompson

1930-2009

Verla May Thompson, age 79 of Lansing, died Sunday evening, September 20, 2009 at Valleyview Assisted Living in Owatonna, Minnesota.

She was born on May 22, 1930, to Ole and Sophie (Nelson) Larson in Mower County. She married Douglas Thompson on June 11, 1950 in Adams, and they made their home in Lansing. Verla was employed by Hormel Foods Corporation for more than 30 years before her retirement. A member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brownsdale and Ladies Aid, she enjoyed serving others, spending time with her family and traveling all over the United States.

Survivors include her husband, Douglas Thompson, of Owatonna; two sons, Gary (Donna) Thompson of OshKosh, Wisconsin; Steven (Cheryl) Thompson of Owatonna; one daughter, Trudy (Timothy) Hanson of Loganville, Georgia; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Curtis (Daisy) Larson, of Austin; Loris (Dorothy) Larson, of Austin; one sister, Ardis Herr, of Faribault; sister-in-law, Myrtle Larson, of Burnsville; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sophie and Ole Larson; brothers, Nomer, Ober and Otto Larson, and a sister, Shirley Tucker.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brownsdale with Pastor Jeffery Sage officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin. The family prefers memorials to Our Savior Lutheran Church, Brownsdale. Elizabeth Margaret "Betty" (nee Reinartz) Jensen

1929-2009

Elizabeth (Betty) Margaret Jensen, age 80, of Austin, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home, Austin, of cancer.

She was born on May 15, 1929, in the Austin hospital, to Martin and Alice Reinartz. She was the eldest of the Reinartz children with Dolores, Ramona, Lavonne and Kay, born in the years that followed.

Betty was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek, Minn. She attended St. Peter’s grade school and graduated from the Rose Creek High School in 1947, where she had been active in school plays and the choir. After she graduated, she got a job with JC Penney in Austin.

On June 6, 1949, she married Merritt Jensen, son of Elmer and Achsa Jensen, in the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek. They both worked and lived in the Austin area their entire lives. In 1950, they were blessed with their first child, a daughter, Diane, then in 1953 a son Bruce and in 1958 a son, Mark.

Betty spent many years volunteering for a variety of organizations, including the Cerebral Palsy Center, The Red Cross, Sacred Heart Auxiliary, Sunshine Committee and the Philomathian Store. She was a member of the Art and Travel Club. She attended the Austin Artist Series, Austin Symphony and went to the plays at the college. She was a charter member of the Austin Lioness Club and a member of the St. Augustine Church Choir.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Merritt Jensen, her parents, Martin and Alice Reinartz, her sister, Lavonne Reinartz, brothers-in-law Louis deSilva and Willie Wiersma and sister-in-law Betty Ann Jensen. Betty is survived by her children: Diane Villalta, Bruce Jensen, Mark Jensen; son-in-law Fernando Villalta and daughter-in-law Jeanne Jensen; grandchildren: Steven and Brian Villalta, Sheila, Gary and Grant Jensen and Megan Jensen.

She is also survived by her sisters: Dolores Frank, Ramona deSilva and Kay Reinartz; brothers-in-law: Delos Frank, Richard Frith and Richard Jensen; her sister-in-law, Helen Slegh; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Betty’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to those at St. Marks Lutheran Home for their thoughtfulness and respect given to Betty and her family.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father John Traufler officiating. There will be a 4 p.m. CCW rosary and a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Wednesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Thursday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin.

Patricia Ann (nee Lund) Hanson

1931-2009

Patricia Ann (Lund) Hanson passed away Monday, September 21, 2009. She was born on October 5, 1931 in Heron Lake, Minnesota.

Patricia attended Red, White and Blue school and graduated from Windom High School. On September 14, 1952 she married Dean Hanson in the Amo Lutheran Church in Storden, Minnesota. They moved to Austin in 1954 to start and raise their family.

She was a consummate homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening. Her children and, later in her life, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She was a woman of quick wit who loved a good card game, her family and friends. She was an avid fan of the Vikings and Twins.

In 2000 she moved to the Cedars Apartments in Austin where she made many good friends and served on the resident’s advisory council.

Patricia was a long-time member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Caroline Lund, husband Dean and brother-in-law Larry Utech.

She is survived by sons Richard (Patti) of North Mankato, Minnesota, Scott (Jeanie) of Kasson, Minnesota, and Mike (Kara) of Duluth, Minnesota; grandchildren: Christopher, Emily, Lyndsey and Brady (Carin); great-grandchildren, Dylan and Peter; and sister, Marlene Utech of McGregor, Minnesota.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2009, with visitation one hour prior at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, 306 Second St. N.W. in Austin. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Mayer Funeral Home.

George John Klingfus

1949-2009

George John Klingfus, age 60, of Austin, died Sunday morning, Sept. 20, 2009 at Austin Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 19, 1949 to Henry August and Hilda Agnes (Aslakson) Klingfus in Austin, where he grew up and attended school. He married Elfie Hohentanner on Oct. 7, 1968 in Munich, Germany. George was an International Representative for United Auto Workers. They made their home in Austin where he belonged to St. Edward’s Catholic Church and Cedar Valley Conservation Club. He loved fishing, old cars, Harley Davidson motorcycles and target shooting.

Survivors include his wife, Elfie, of Austin; two sons, Dave Klingfus, of Jena, Germany, and Tom (Becky) Klingfus of Austin; three grandchildren, Blake, Jack and Alec; brothers, Jerome (Laurie) Klingfus of Austin; Darrell (Nancy) Klingfus, of Northwood, Iowa; half-brother, Raymond (Gail) Klingfus, of Osage, Iowa; half-sister, Ida Mae (Richard J.) Lee, of Austin; brother-in-law, Thomas Brewster, of Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilda and Henry, and a sister, Bonnie Anderley.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Austin with The Reverend Jon Moore officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Worlein Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery, Austin.

Ray Leslie Gillson

1925-2009

Ray Leslie Gillson, 84, of Austin died Friday, September 18, 2009 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

He was born July 5, 1925 in Austin to Ezra and Edna (Bliese) Gillson. Ray graduated from Austin High School in the class of 1943. He served in the US Navy during World War II.

On October 2, 1945 he was married to Betty Jean Nagel. They have lived in Austin, where he was employed as a mechanic with Hormel Foods for 46 years until the time of his retirement. Ray was an avid sports fan and was a familiar face around town, having been a softball umpire for 40 years. He was a charter member of the Austin Athletic Club and ran a baseball card shop called Gilly's Card Den before and after his retirement. Ray was an active member of the Grace Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, three sisters and one brother. Ray is survived by his wife Betty Jean Gillson, Austin; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Blaine Arneson, Austin; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Mary Gillson, Coon Rapids; grandchildren, Stacie and David Beecham, Angie and Mike Schulke, John and Cassie Gillson, Laura and Joe Lofgren, Emily Gillson; six great grandchildren; sister, Lois and Frank Felty, Coon Rapids.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, September 21, 2009 at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Gordon Larson Officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be for one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Casket Bearers will be David Beecham, John Gillson, Mike Schulke, Joe Lofgren.

Rodney R. Morgan, Sr.

1953-2009

Rodney Ryan Morgan Sr, age 55, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2009 at his home.

Rodney was born November 3, 1953 to Raymond and Doris (Stowers) Morgan in Modesto, Calif. where he grew up and graduated from Modesto High School in 1972. Rod worked as a drywall hanger at the Gonga Building in Rochester, Minn. He married Peggy Ann Hoe on Aug. 3, 1985 in Lake Tahoe, Nev. They made their home in Modesto, California until 2000, when they moved to Austin,Minnesota. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and hanging out with the Ninth Street Gang.

Survivors include his wife: Peggy Morgan, Austin, Minn.; daughters: Jennifer Sanchez, Sonoma, Calif., Jessica Morgan, Bend, Ore.; son: Rodney Morgan, Jr., Austin, Minn.; brother: Randall Morgan, Modesto, Calif.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Ray; an infant son, Jeffrey; infant sister, Merilee Morgan.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Interment is at Rose Creek Enterprise Cemetery, rural Austin. Worlein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements

Lois Jean (Parr) Young

1942-2009

Lois Jean Young, 66, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday evening, September 19, 2009 at her home. Lois was born on October 2, 1942 to James and Arlene (Moyer) Parr in Scribner, Nebraska where she grew up and married William Young on October 2, 1965. She became a homemaker while William was working with Hormel Foods all over the United States. For the past 18 years the couple made their home in Austin where Lois belonged to the Circle at Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, William of Austin; two sons, Travis Young of Roswell, New Mexico and Boyd (Michelle) Young of Minneapolis; one daughter, Angelique (Daniel) Howell of Ames, Iowa; two grandsons, Curtis and Cole; siblings, Patsy Kelly of Hebron, Nebraska; Dianne (Daniel) Barber of Denver, Colorado; LeAnn (Keith) Wisnieski of David City, Nebraska; Bonnie (Dale) Christiansen of Pender, Nebraska; Lisa (Keith) Worley of Hastings, Nebraska and Karolyn (Vince) Streeter of Columbia, South Carolina; mother-in-law, Linea Young of Oakland, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Rhonda Parr.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin, Minnesota with Pastor Jeff Forbes officiating. Bernard Dewey Olson

1919-2009

Bernard Dewey Olson, 89, of Austin died Saturday, September 19, 2009 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.

He was born December 18, 1919 in Rochester to Victor and Nona (Boege) Olson. Bernard graduated from Rochester High School in the class of 1937. He was employed at the Kahler Hotel and worked at the shipyard in Bremerton, WA.

He was married to Judith Melvina Lee on October 8, 1941 at the Olson family home in Rochester. They lived in Austin where Bernard worked for the Hormel Foods Corporation from 1945 until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and the Moose Club.

Bernard enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed reading, playing cards, bingo and an occasional gambling junket. He enjoyed driving his Model A and appeared in several area parades.

Bernard was preceded in death by his Wife Judith in 2007, sons, Terry and Roger Olson and a sister Mary Huinker.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Grace Lutheran Church, Austin, with The Reverend Jeffrey Forbes officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Bernard is survived by his son: Dennis Olson, Austin, MN; daughter and son-in-law: Carolyn and Wade Nelson, Austin, MN; daughters-in-laws: Janet Olson, Rochester, MN, Carol Ashton Olson, Pima, AZ; Seven Grandchildren; Eight Great Grandchildren.

Michelle Schmitz Meyer

1965-2009

Michelle M. Meyer, 44, of Owatonna died September 17, 2009 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Plainview, Texas.

Michelle was born February 5, 1965, daughter of Michael and Mary (Dralle) Schmitz in Austin, Minn. Michelle attended elementary school at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Adams, Minn. She was a member of the graduating class of 1983 of Southland High School in Adams. After high school she attended the College of St. Teresa in Winona and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science and Math. She was united in marriage to Mark Meyer on November 24, 1990 at Sacred Heart in Adams. The couple made their home in Owatonna, and together, had four children. Their daughter Elaina preceded them in death in 1999. Michelle worked in computer support for the grain industry, most recently employed by Cenex Harvest States in Inver Grove Heights. She traveled for her job.

She was a member of the Council of Catholic Women. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a member of the St. Teresa’s Alumni Association. Her hobbies included gardening, decorating and watching her family’s activities. She was very involved with volunteering for many community activities. She is survived by her husband Mark and daughters Olivia, Laura, and Joe, who are all at home. Her mother Mary Schmitz, siblings David (Peggy) Schmitz, Bill (Bette) Schmitz, Alan (Paula) Schmitz, Susan (David) Lagerstedt, all of Adams. Father and Mother-in-law Jerome (Sharon) Meyer of Coon Rapids, Brother-in-law Paul (Tanya) Meyer of Apple Valley, sister-in-law Maria (Eric) Hanson of New Hope, MN. Many nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father Michael in 1996.

Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. John Sauer officiating. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday, September 22, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 810 S. Cedar, Owatonna. There will be a 3:45 p.m. parish Rosary at the church on Tuesday.

Roy G. Willmarth

1887-1957

LEROY, MINNESOTA — Funeral services for Roy G. Willmarth, 70, were conducted Thursday at the Martz Funeral Home. The Rev R. K. Fogal officiated.

He was born Jan. 21, 1887 at Elkton, South Dakota.

He and Cornelia Drinkall were married on January 8, 1917. He lived here most of his life and was associated with the Central Iowa Telephone Company for 54 years, retiring Feb 1.

Survivors include his wife; a sister, Rhoda Ringdahl, Austin; and a brother, Allen Reginald Willmarth, Rochester.

Mr. Willmarth died unexpectedly on Tuesday near Sparta, Wisconsin, while he and his were were returning from a trip to Ohio.

Danney Krueger

1957-2009

Danney Krueger, 52, of Austin, died suddenly on Septrmbrt 19, 2009.

He was born on April 17, 1957 in Austin to Kenneth and Betty (Holgate) Kruger. Danney married Stephanie McKay on December 24, 1981.

Danney is survived by his wife, Stephanie; children, Rachel (Matt), Kristy , Danielle, Justin (Nicole), Randi; mother, Betty; siblings, Sylvia, Linda, Dona (Kirk), Bernard, Toy Sue; “Papa's special boys,” Michael and Ryan; grandchildren, Daulton, Jazmine, Ethan, Dimitri, Dacia, Detrich, Deeann, Tanner, Colin; lifelong friends, Gary, Ronnie and Terry; many nieces and nephews and his beloved fat cat, “Stink.”

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth, and his grandparents, Catherine, George, Vivian and Dorothy. A celebration of his life will be on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009 at 12 p.m. at the Ruby Rupner Auditorium in the Hormel Nature Center. Jeans and a T-shirt are required.

In his life he was a welder, in his death he has become a teacher by donating his body to the University of Minnesota's Anatomy Bequest Program to help educate future health care providers. His generosity extended beyond his life.

Nancy Wallem-Steinbach

1961-2009

Nancy Wallem-Steinbach, 48, died Monday, September 21, 2009 after a battle with cancer.

She was born May 28, 1961 to Harry and Ruth Wallem of Austin.

Nancy worked as a program coordinator for REM for 28 years and as a first responder with the Dexter Fire Department. Nancy was a beautiful sister and her greatest loves were her nieces and nephews, her cats and horses and her many, many special friends.

Nancy is survived by her sister, Susan Barley, and husband, George; nephews, Jeffrey and Jeremy; brothers, Andrew Wallem and fiancee, Sara Horter; nieces, Devyn and Emily; and Harry Wallem Junior and wife, Lisa.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Dexter, 230 Pleasant St.

Inez Gladys (nee Uglum) Schissel

1914-2009

Inez Uglum Schissel, 95, of Adams, Minnesota, died on Monday, September 21, 2009, at the Austin Medical Center, Austin.

Inez Gladys Uglum, daughter of Ane and Iver Uglum, was born on a farm near Grand Meadow, Minn. on July 5, 1914. When she was 6 years old, her family moved to Adams, where Inez spent most of her life.

Inez graduated from Adams High School and also from Winona State University. She taught school for several years in the Austin Public Schools and also at Sacred Heart School in Adams. She thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of teaching and felt blessed to have selected the right vocation.

In 1939, Inez was united in marriage to Conrad Schissel at St. Augustine Church in Austin with Father Griffin officiating. Three children were born to this union: Ann, Bob, and Jean.

Inez had many interests including gardening, reading, golfing, traveling, oil painting, sewing and cards, especially bridge. She was devoted to her husband, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and in-laws. She loved all of them.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, SHCCW, St. Agnes Unit, Adams Health Care Auxiliary, Austin Area Retired Teacher's Organization and the Cedar River Country Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad; son-in-law, Ron Lien; parents; two brothers; and five sisters.

She is survived by her children, Ann Lien, Rochester, Minn., Bob (Linda) Schissel, Park Rapids, Minn., and Jean (Ben) Norman, Ankeny, Iowa; grandchildren, Beth Schissel, Kris (Patrick) Donnelly, Maren (Paul) Kunkel, Kara Norman (Tom Delaney), Alex Norman (Dorann Richtsmeier), Julie (Brian) O'Connell, Amy Lien (Erik Fritsche), and Jenny Lien (Pat Rothwell); great-grandchildren, Fiona and Nora Donnelly, Tara and Jack O'Connell and Nolan Fritsche.

Friends and relatives are invited to the visitation to be held at the Adams Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 25, 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams with Father James Seitz officiating. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Lela Katherine (nee Wheeler) Conway

1925-2009

Lela Katherine Conway, 83, of Tonganoxie, Kansas, and formerly of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2009 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Lela was born on October 26, 1925, the daughter of William and Edith Woodard Wheeler. She married James H. Conway on June 28, 1942 in Austin. She worked as a printer at Kansas University Printing Services. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women’s Society and the Senior Bowling League. She also volunteered at the Good Shepherd Thrift Shop. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Howard Conway, in 1944.

Survivors include her husband, James Conway, of the home; three sons, Michael, Kansas City, Mo., John, Loveland, Colo., and Kelly Conway, Topeka, Kan.; two daughters, Mary Conway, Tonganoxie, and Jeanne Conway Murry, Olathe, Kan.; sister, Mary Reinhart, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mary H. (nee Walsh) Dack

1916-2009

Mary H. (Walsh) Dack, age 93, died on Saturday, September 19, 2009 in Seattle, Washington.

She was born on January 27, 1916 to John and Clara (Enright) Walsh, in Austin, Mower county, Minnesota. She went to Burr Oaks school in Austin and worked at the Hormel Foods plant in labeling.

Mary was known for telling her family and friends that she kissed the first can of Spam off the line. Mary was married to John L. Dack for more than 60 years. She met him when she went to Seattle to visit her sister. She ended up marrying John and staying in Seattle, where she was involved in a local Cathedral.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis, Edward and Jack; and four sisters-in-law, Nelly, Edith, Marie, Rose and Faye.

Her survivors include her husband, John L. Dack; daughter, Kathleen Dorgan; granddaughter, Theresa (Clarence) Hein; great-great-granddaughter Alexis; sisters, Luella Asholdgrafer of Austin, Dorothy Weis of Austin, Irene Eastlee of Stewartville; and brothers, Paul Walsh of Paducah, Kentucky, and Clair Walsh of Vancouver, Washington.

Dennis John Guttormson

1958-2009

Dennis John “Cha” Guttormson, age 51, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at his home.

Dennis was born on April 21, 1958, in Austin, to Dale and Kathleen (Fink) Guttormson. On Nov. 22, 1986 he was united in marriage to Michelle Felt in Austin. Dennis was a salesman and also worked for Jimmy's Fish and Seafood.

Survivors include his wife, Michelle Guttormson; children, Daniel Guttormson, John Guttormson and Jitauna Guttormson, all of Austin; sisters, Cindy (Al) Crom, Stewartville, Mary (Rob) Gleason, Austin; and father-in-law Keith Felt, Austin.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Kathleen Guttormson; brother, Mike Guttormson; grandparents; aunts and uncles.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father John Traufler officiating. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The honorary casket bearers will be his children, nieces and nephews, great nephew and “grandson,” Arnold (the dog).

Glen A. Ellingson

1921-2009

Glen A. Ellingson, age 88, of Rochester, Minnesota, and formerly of Ostrander, Minn., died Tuesday Sept. 22, 2009 at Madonna Towers in Rochester where he had resided since 2005.

Glen was born June 23, 1921, in Austin, to Gunder Ellingson and Barbara Thorson Ellingson. He attended school in Carpenter, Iowa and graduated from high school in 1939 from St. Ansgar, Iowa. He drove a truck and worked as a carpenter before joining the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in the Army Air Corps attaining the rank of corporal and was honorably discharged in 1946. Glen was a member of the American Legion for more than 50 years. After he was discharged Glen worked driving trucks, farming and in carpentry.

On March 31, 1946 Glen was united in marriage to Verneal Nelson in Northwood, Iowa. She passed away in November 2000. Glen served as a rural mail carrier from Dec. 1952 until January 1975 in the Taopi and LeRoy, Minn. area. He also operated a seasonal Income Tax Office in LeRoy. For several years, while living in LeRoy, he was a member of the local school board and also the state school board where he held the positions of vice president and then president. He was named to the Education Council by Gov. Harold LeVander. Glen and his family had moved to LeRoy in 1960 where they lived until 1975 when they moved to Wayne, Neb. He purchased Ellingson Motors in 1975, operating it until his retirement in 1983 when they moved to Port Charlotte, Fla.

Glen was always very active serving on several civic organizations and church boards in the communities where he resided.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verneal; son, Ward; and five brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by his children: sons Mark (Joan) Ellingson of Halstead, Kan., Bruce (Marie) Ellingson of Union, Ky., Grant Ellingson of Fort Myers, Fla., Clay (Sue) Ellingson of Moorhead, Minn., Jon (Marilyn) Ellingson of Gretna, Neb., Cedric (Lori) Ellingson of Hudson, Wis.; two daughters; Pam (Bruce) Mensink of Rochester, Minn., Janet (Larry) Schreier of Oriental, N.C.; daughter-in-law Diane Ellingson of Eden Prairie, Minn.; 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday Sept. 26, 2009 at Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter, Iowa with the Rev. Rolf Wangberg and the Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood, Iowa. Friends may call at the Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior atS the church in Carpenter.

Helen Elizabeth (nee Shoemaker) Florek

1906-2009

Helen Elizabeth Florek, age 102, of Austin, died on Sunday evening, Sept. 27, 2009 at Prairie Manor in Blooming Prairie.

She was born Oct. 9, 1906 to Elvin “Bud” and Maggie (Baldwin) Shoemaker in Kimball, Minn. Helen attended school in Rose Creek. She married Stanley Florek on Oct. 21, 1928 in Austin where they made their home. She started the Bunco Club in 1940 in which she was active until her death. She also liked bingo, card games and gardening.

Stanley passed away on Nov. 30, 1968. Helen was one of the original residents of the Twin Towers.

Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Lenoch, of Austin, Helen Radimecky, of Austin; six grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley; brothers, Dale and Alvin Shoemaker; sister, Gertrude Johnson; two nephews, Cory Shoemaker and Leonard Johnson; son-in-law, Clifford Lenoch.

Dolores (nee Webber) Bartlett

1930-2009

Dolores Bartlett, age 79, of Austin, died Saturday Sept. 26, 2009 at the Austin Medical Center.

Dolores was born April 13, 1930 in Austin to Melvin and Maybelle Webber. She married Frank Lueck in 1950 and had four children. Dolores and Frank divorced in 1968. She remarried and was divorced again in 1973.

Afterward, she led a gypsy's life and settled in California until 1990 when she moved back to Austin.

Dolores loved music from Sarah Vaughan to Supertramp. She was an accomplished singer who loved to perform and brought the house down with a tender ballad or a rousing blues number. Dolly was a larger-than-life personality who could be utterly charming or totally maddening — to quote from her favorite song “Embraceable You,” "You and you alone bring out the gypsy in me."

She was preceded in death by her son Daniel Lueck.

She is survived by her children Allison (Todd) Anderson of Austin, Teresa (Michael) Bradley of Tacoma, Wash., Leslie Lueck (Frank Fox) of Shelton, Wash.; her grandchildren, Danielle and Jett Bradley; and great-grandson, Riley.

Her daughters would like to thank Ike Hendrikson for his friendship and care. They would also like to thank their cousin Gina Anderson for all of her help.

No services are planned. Mayer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Duane R. Truesdell, age 64, of Savage, Minnesota, and formerly of Austin, Minnesota, passed away at his home surrounded by those who love him.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah; children, Dan (Kristin) Knowles and Christopher Truesdell (Karen Watson); grandchildren, Teah and Tyler Knowles; siblings, Barb (Larry) Hauge, Sharon (Ron) Barclay, Joanne (Jack) Paro, and James (Roxanne) Truesdell; niece, Lindsey; and other loving family and friends including Patty and Dan Daubenspeck, Anita Zimmerman, and Cindy and Bill Egan and family.

There will be a memorial service at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 at White Funeral Home, 14560 Pennock Ave., Apple Valley. There will be a memorial visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. prior to the service.

Mary Louise Wilkinson

1956-2009

Mary Louise Wilkinson, 53, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mary was born Feb. 17, 1956 in Austin to William and Marjorie (Miller) Wilde. She grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1974. Mary worked at Echo Lanes Bowling Alley and Jay Vee clothing store at Oak Park Mall after graduation.

On Aug. 28, 1976 she was united in marriage to Gerald Wilkinson at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. After marriage, Mary was a homemaker for many years and was employed at Ankeny's Mini Mart No. 4 and Ankeny Dairy Foods. She was then employed at White Water Wireless until retirement.

A member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, she enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandson, JJ.

Survivors include her loving husband, Jerry, Austin; son, Michael (Kelly), Austin; daughter, Stephanie, Austin; grandson, Julius, Austin; brothers, Gary (Marsha) Wilde, Austin, Bruce (Suzette) Wilde, Lyle, William (Teresa) Wilde Jr., Austin; sisters, Luann Jensen, Austin, Brenda (Delbert) Flagg, Lewiston, Idaho, Becky (Craig) Delhanty, Austin, Kelly (Michael) Pryor, Hollandale; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Kerri Jean; nephew, Shane Wilde.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 5 p.m. CCW rosary and an 8 p.m. wake service on Monday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The casket bearers will be nephews: Jeff Wilkinson, Shannon Wilde, Jason Pederson, Jordon Jensen, Joey Wilde and Jared Wilde.

Ralph L. Shammel

1934-2009

Ralph L. Schammel, 75, of Greenville, S.C., formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, September 28, 2009 in Greenville.

Ralph was born February 26, 1934 in Rose Creek to William and Teresa (Ulwelling) Schammel. He graduated from Rose Creek High School in 1952. On March 2, 1957 he was united in marriage to June H. McAllister in Fort Hood, Texas. After his tour of duty in Germany, the couple returned to Austin until their recent move to South Carolina.

Ralph was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 10. He worked in his trade for 45 years with Ideal, Scheid's and Himec-Scheid. Many of his later years were spent doing specialty work at Hormel plants around the midwest. Ralph was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and since 1996, St. Edward's Catholic Church.

Ralph had many interests. He enjoyed golf, gardening, fishing, remodeling homes, wood working, guitar and he loved his computer.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, June; sons, Mark (Ruth), Mankato, Craig (Colleen), Africa, Dr. David (Dr. Christine), Greenville; daughter, Michele (Dave) Ree, Austin; seven grandchildren; two great granddaughters; sisters, Veronica Schober, St. Paul, Madeline Burzinski, Austin; brothers, John (friend Margaret Nygaard), Austin, Joe (Irene), Rose Creek, Ken (Marilyn), Cornelius, N.C.; sister-in-law Marge Schammel, Apple Valley, Minn; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Teresa Schammel; brothers, Clement and Jerome Schammel; brothers-in-law, Bernard Schober and Richard Burzinski; sister-in-law, Florence Schammel.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 at St. Edward's Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 7 p.m. wake service on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday. Military rites will be by American Legion Post No. 91. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Rose Creek.

Dorothy Ann (nee DeVriendt) Berg

1930 - 2009

Dorothy Ann Berg, age 78, of Lyle, Minnesota, died on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at home lovingly surrounded by her family.

Dorothy was born on December 25, 1930, in Mower County, Minnesota, to Edward and Mary (VanHyfte) DeVriendt. On Sept. 13, 1950 she was united in marriage to Charles Berg at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin.

Dorothy will always be remembered for her delicious cookies, pies and homemade bread. She loved her daily life of keeping house and taking care of others. We'll never forget her smiling face, warm hugs and "wise" remarks. Dorothy was a domestic engineer.

Her heart may have failed her, but it certainly didn't fail us. We thank God for the gift of Dorothy.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Berg, Lyle; children, Barbara (Lowell) Crabb, Kingsley, Iowa, Betty (Gary) Meyer, Lyle, James (Taylor) Berg, Fort Dodge, Iowa, Patricia (Mark) Stevens, Austin, Polly (James) Allen, Bruno, Joan (Jeff) Yocom, Austin; 13 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers, Vincent (Emily) DeVriendt, Austin, Ronald DeVriendt, Fridley; half sister, Diane (Robert) Sufka, Royalton; half brother, Larry (Connie) DeVriendt, Royalton.

John M. (Jack) Maloney

1928-2009

John M. (Jack) Maloney, 80, has died.

Jack was born on September 25, 1928, to Eugene and Mary O'Conner Maloney. He was originally of Austin, and lived in New-Berry Springs, Calif.

He lived in Austin for about 50 years, working at Hormel and in sales. He was also in the Air Force for four years.

Jack is survived by his wife: Janice; daughters: Shawn Jensen and Tara Tull; three grandchildren, three great grandchildren,sisters: Jean Lauritzen, Elizabeth-Vaith Kay Hahn and MaryAnn Maloney; and brothers: Vince and Ray Maloney.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant brother.

There will be a burial service September 29, 2009 at 10:30 at Calvary Cemetery.

Shirley Mae Gilma Aldahl

1929 - 2009

Shirley Mae Gilma Aldahl, age 80, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died on Friday afternoon, Sept. 25, 2009, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home. She was born May 14, 1929, in Austin, the daughter of George Oscar and Sylvia (Aldal) Aldahl. Following her mother’s death, Shirley was raised by her aunt, Nellie Thompson, from the age of nine.

She attended school in Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1947. After graduation, Shirley began working for the Geo. A. Hormel Company, a position she held until her retirement in the early 1980s. She enjoyed bus trips to many places, playing cards, especially cribbage and her trips to the casino with family and friends.

She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the Eagles, where she was a volunteer on hamburger night, Moose Lodge and the American Legion. After her retirement, Shirley worked part-time for the Mower County Shopper, placing inserts in the shopper.

Survivors include a nephew, George Aldahl of Northfield; a niece, Marsha (Rick) Retterath of St. Joseph; two great nephews, Peter and Tim Aldahl of Northfield; many cousins and friends including special friends, Alta Gaines and Lois Schmidt

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Interment will be in the Red Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery in rural Austin. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Worlein Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. An Eagles Auxiliary Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28th at Worlein Funeral Home. Memorials are preferred to the cancer research of the donor’s choice. Raymond Wigant

1920-2009

Raymond W. Wigant, 89, of Austin died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 at Austin Medical Center in Austin.

He was born June 30, 1920 in Bucktown, Iowa, to William and Maude (Gwin) Wigant. During World War II, Ray served in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. On Jan. 18, 1945 Ray was married to Catherine Balsley at the Congregational Church in Orchard, Iowa. After the war, Ray moved to Austin and started working at Hormel where he worked for 37 years.

Ray was one of the oldest members of the Church of Christ, having joined in 1946. He was also a member of Austin Post No. 91, American Legion and Olaf B. Damm Post No. 1216, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Raymond and Catherine spent the winters in Hawaii for 24 years. In his spare time, Ray enjoyed traveling, square dancing, watching sports on TV, cooking, wood working, yard work and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Catherine Wigant, Austin; son and daughter-in-law Alan and Pam Wigant, Austin; daughters and son-in-law Ruth Langohr, Austin, Brenda and Eddie Brekke, Preston, Minnesota, Wendy Arnett, Austin; grandchildren, Jennifer, Sarah Ann, Ryan, Mark, Michelle, Brent and Sarah Lela; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Vern Wigant, Canby, Ore., and Robert Wigant, Salem, Oregon; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be held at noon, Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 at Church of Christ with Pastor Stephen DeFor and Pastor David DeFor officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Military rites will be by Austin Post No. 91, American Legion and Olaf B. Damm Post No. 1216, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mary Ellen (nee Pieper) Arndorfer

1902-2009

Mary Ellen Andorfer, 107, died Friday, October 2, 2009, at Adams Health Care in Adams, Minnesota.

Mary Ellen Arndorfer was born January 30, 1902 in Hanover Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Sarah (Koehler) Pieper. She attended school and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in Olpe, Kansas. Ellen taught second grade at St. Joseph Academy until 1924.

On June 4, 1924, Ellen was united in marriage with Edward Frank Arndorfer at St. Joseph Church in Akron, Colorado. Together they lived in Akron and farmed until 1930 when they moved to Iowa and farmed near Galt from 1932 to 1960, when they retired and moved to Clarion. Ed and Ellen spent many winters in Edinburg, Texas where they made their home in Citrus Mobile Park. Ed passed away on Dec. 20, 1987. In 1989, Mary Ellen moved into Rotary Ann Retirement Home in Eagle Grove where she lived for 15 years. In 2004, Ellen moved to the Adams Nursing Home in Adams, Minn. where she resided until her death.

Ellen was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion and the Catholic Daughters of Americas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; son, Francis; daughter, Norma; daughter-in-law, Lorene; four brothers and two sisters.

Ellen is survived by her children, Jim Arndorfer and Gladys of Humeston, Iowa, Clarence Arndorfer and Joyce of LeRoy, Minn., Rosemary Laliberte and John of Chattanooga, Ten., Kenneth Arndorfer and Margaret of Austin, Minn., Roger Arndorfer and Helen of Woolstock, and John Arndorfer and Janet of Mankato, Minn.; 45 grandchildren; 84 great grandchildren; 23 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Tillie Pieper of Swink, Colo. and many nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a C. D. A. Rosary at 4 p.m. and Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Clarion.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Jennie Ruth (nee Jorgenson) Skjeveland

1906-2009

Jennie Ruth Skjeveland, age 102 of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday night, Oct. 2, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, Mitchell county, Iowa.

She was born on December 15, 1906, at home in Austin, the daughter of Hans Jacob and Gensena Martha (Wangen) Jorgenson. She attended school in Austin and helped her family in their truck gardening business, supplying fresh vegetables to local grocery stores. On March 6, 1928, she was united in marriage to Bernie Herbert Skjeveland in Northwood, Iowa. The couple lived in Mankato, Minn. during the early years of their marriage and then returned to the Austin area. Bernie died on Dec. 19, 2001.

Jennie lived in her own home until the age of 101, when she moved to the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, Iowa in July of 2008. Jennie loved music, especially playing the piano and singing. She enjoyed drawing, dancing, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and watching soap operas.

Jennie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernie H. Skjeveland; a son, Lionel in 1934; two grandsons in infancy, twins, Bryan and Wayne Skjeveland; two granddaughters, Dawn Skjeveland and Sandra Finley; a great-grandson, Christian Skjeveland; a son-in-law, Mike Deyo; a granddaughter-in-law, Cindy Skjeveland; four brothers, John, Hank, Martin and Roy Jorgenson and three sisters, Martha “Minni” Rheim, Hannah Gahagen and Evelyn Rogers.

Survivors include five sons, Lowell “Sonny/Moe” (Kathy) Skjeveland of Austin, Eugene “Chip” (Elaine) Skjeveland of Rochester, Darrell “Red” (Janet) Skjeveland of Faribault, Hugh “Ole” (Linda) Skjeveland of Sunrise Beach, Mo., Leslie “Les” (Carmen) Skjeveland of San Antonio, Texas; three daughters, Lorraine “Joan” Deyo of Austin, Sharon “Cherry/Sherry” (Richard) Waller of Austin and Carol “Cooky” (Lawrence “Larry”) Bruggeman of St. Ansgar, Iowa; 24 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lydia Mittag officiating. Interment will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6th at the Worlein Funeral Home. Honorary casket bearer will be Leslie Skjeveland and casket bearers will be Lowell Skjeveland, Eugene Skjeveland, Darrell Skjeveland, Hugh Skjeveland, Richard Waller and Larry Bruggeman. A. D. "Andy" Andrew

1942-2009

A.D. (Andy) Andrew of Spring Valley, Minn. died Oct. 3rd, 2009 at his home, surrounded by loved ones, after a three year battle with cancer.

He was born on February 2, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri. At the age of 17 he joined the army. He attended basic training at Fort Riley, Kan. followed by Ordnance School in Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md. Andy was stationed in Baumbholder, Germany for two years as a member of the 8th division and was discharged SPEC 4 in August of 1962.

He worked for Railway Express in St. Louis until 1971 when he moved to Grand Meadow, Minn. and began working for Interstate Truck in Rochester, Minnesota. In 1973 he worked as a foreman for Minnesota Implement in Grand Meadow, Minn. until 1981 when he began his own company. Until his death he owned and operated Ag Electrical Specialists in Racine, Minn. and Andy's Electrical Service in Grand Meadow.

Andy also served two terms (1972-1976) as mayor of Grand Meadow. He was a long standing member of the American Legion Post # 140 and was a member of the Valley Christian Center in Spring Valley.

He was preceded in death by his mother Izola (Barnes) Wohlers.

Survivors include his wife Linda of Spring Valley; three daughters Joan Andrew of Tampa, Fla., Linda Andrew of Albuquerque, N.M., Deanna (James) MacDuffie of Tijeras, N.M.; step-daughter Lori Buchholtz of Spring Valley; step-son Brian (Phyllis) Sauer of Spring Valley; two grandchildren, Finley and Keira MacDuffie; two step-grandchildren Jordan and Justin Buchholtz; two sisters Connie (Dean) Wisdom of Lenzburg, Illinois, Sharon Schlegelmilch of Sarasota, Fla., Henry Rector of Gerald, Mo., Tom (Susan) Rector and Harold (Melody) Rector of Kansas City, Mo., Gerald Rector of McCalister, Okla.

Funeral services for A.D. “Andy” Andrew will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 7, 2009 at the Valley Christian Center in Spring Valley with the Rev. Steve Kuno officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday Oct. 6th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hindt funeral home in Spring Valley. Burial will be in the Sumner Center (Millet) Cemetery Sunner Twp. Fillmore County.

Gerhardt Conrad Schumann

1922-2009

Gerhardt C. Schumann, 87, of rural Grand Meadow, Minnesota, died on Saturday October 3, 2009 from complications of a stroke at St. Mary’s Hospital where he was admitted on Saturday.

Gerhardt Conrad Schumann was born April 11, 1922 in High Forest Township, Olmsted County to Gerhardt and Deana (Balsen) Schumann. He grew up on the

family farm, attended rural schools, graduating in 1940. He was married September 5, 1943 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stewartville to Betty M. Hess. Following their marriage, the couple lived and farmed on the Schumann Family farm before moving to Pleasant Valley Township in 1948, where they farmed and raised their family and have made their home for the past 60 years.

Schumann was a past member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Stewartville where he was baptized, confirmed and married. He was also a lontime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley where he was active in its Men’s Club. He served as a board member at the Farm Bureau and on the Pleasant Valley Township Board and was a a community volunteer for many years with Thrivent Financial. He was devoted to his family and his church and enjoyed playing cards, bowling, dancing with his wife and visiting with friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

He is survived by his wife Bettt; son Payl (Sandy) of ryral Stewartville; daughter Marlene (Rev. Yerry) Cripe of Defiance, Ohio; five grandchildren, Leah (Ben) Rodriguez, Sarah Cripe, Patty (Mark) Clancy, Tom (Julia) Schumann, Ron Sonnek; five great grandchildren, Jessica, Joshua, Kaytlynn, Ariel and Zac; a sister Marion (Gene) Rowekamp of Rochester, Minn.; two brothers Henry (Luella) Schumann of Stewartville and Wilbur (Marilyn) Schumann of Rochester.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 7, 2009 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stewartville, Minn. with the Rev. Lyle Fritsch and Rev. Ron Prigge officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday Oct. 6, 2009 at Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday morning. A burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetary in Stewartville. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville.

June A. (nee Wiese) Nierengarten

1947-2009

OWATONNA, MINNESOTA - June A. Nierengarten, 62, of Owatonna died Saturday, October 3, 2009, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Olmsted county, Minnesota.

She was born July 28, 1947, in Austin, Minn., the daughter of Walter and Bernice (Blaser) Wiese. After graduating from Pacelli High School in Austin, she married W. John Nierengarten in Austin and the couple lived in Austin and Mason City. They divorced in 1987 and June moved to Owatonna in 1988, where she has been employed with Cash Wise Foods for over 20 years.

June was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and all of her other family. She also liked the Vikings, Twins, going to her family's sporting events and watching "Dancing With the Stars" and spending Sundays with her mother in Austin.

She is survived by her mother, Bernice Wiese of Austin; three sons, Terry (and Kathy) Nierengarten of Sheffield, Todd (and Sara) Nierengarten of Decorah and Tim Nierengarten of Minneapolis; and four grandchildren, Kelsey, Jake, Joshua and Emma. She is also survived by her brother, Terry (and Barb) Wiese of Owatonna and sister Julie (and Pat) O'Brien of Waseca.

Her father, Walter Wiese, preceded her in death.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna, Minn., with Father Edward McGrath officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery in Austin.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Michaelson Funeral Home, 1930 Austin Road, Owatonna, Minnesota. Michaelson Funeral Home, 507-451-7943.

Ethel Agnes (nee Holmquist) Branum

1919-2009

Ethel Agnes Branum, 89, of Austin, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009 at her home in Austin.

She was born Nov. 5, 1919 in Moscow, Minnesota, to Axel and Maran (Mamie) (Anderson) Holmquist. Ethel graduated from Austin High School in 1938 and was married to Lawrence E. Branum on June 28, 1941 at the Moscow Lutheran Church.

She has been a long time member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church where she has been active in WELCA, the church circles and the Altar Guild. Ethel was a homemaker and enjoyed reading and baking.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, in 2001 and two brothers, Arnold and Raymond Holmquist.

Ethel is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Marty L. Branum, Chatfield, Minn.; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and BryanAdams, Big Lake, Minn.; grandchildren, Sherri and Bill Thornburg, Mark and Carol Branum, Beth and Brent Scharpman, Matthew and Michele Adams, Melissa and Derek Hansen, Neil and Jill Adams, Eric and Jessica Adams; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Marie Becthold, Stillwater, Minn., Phyllis Sistek, Walker, Minn., Gladys and Charlie Bliss, Austin; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Honorary bearers will be Danica, Olivia and Kenna Thornburg, Victor and Isaac Scharpman, Mallory, Marit and Noah Adams, Chase Adams, Seth Hansen, Caiden Adams, Devon and Ean Adams. 1949-2009

Paul T. Sween -- Chino Valley, Arizona

GRAND MEADOW, MINNESOTA -- Paul T. Sween of Chino Valley, Arizona, and formerly of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, passed away in Phoenix, Arizona on October 2, 2009, following a brief illness.

Paul was born in Grand Meadow on October 8, 1949, and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1967. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1972. From a young age, Paul loved horses, and he often worked in careers involving animals. He had lived and worked in Florida, Minnesota and Arizona.

In addition to his many friends, Paul is survived by his parents, Norm and Kitty Sween of Grand Meadow; brothers Dan (Carolyn) of Grand Meadow and Doug (Joan) of Rochester; and sister, Cindy (Doug) Ofstedal of Tokyo/Harmony. He is also survived by three nephews, Patrick, Charlie and Brit; and three nieces, Sarah, Adrienne and Sheldyn.

A celebration of Paul's life was held in Chino Valley on October 4, and a similar celebration will be held in Grand Meadow at a later date.

Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services. Burial of the cremated remains will take place in the church cemetery at a later date.
