that of farming and livestock raising. He became widely known as an
Auctioneer of exceptional ability throughout the entire northwest, having
continued in the business for nearly 30 years.
In 1911 because of a serious illness from inflammatory rheumatism, he
retired from active work and moved to Austin where he lived until 1920, when
he moved to Portland, Oregon. There he made his home until he was stricken
January 31. As soon as word announcing his illness was received, William
E. Hopfe left for Portland to be with him. It being his wish to return to
Austin to be with his children, arrangements were made to return with him.
He stood the trip exceptionally well, but the nature of the disease was such
that, in spite of all that loving hands and medical science could offer,
death intervened.
Funeral services will be held at the Ramsey home, 110 South St. Paul St.,
Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m., with interment in Oakwood Cemetery, with Rev.
Warner Johnson of the Methodist church officiating.
