Ernest Nelson 1937-2000
Ernest Harvey "Swede" Nelson, 62, Brownsdale, died Saturday evening,
March 25, 2000, at his home in Brownsdale.
He was born June 10, 1937, in St. James, Minn., to Ernest and Frieda
(Brendon) Nelson. Swede was raised in the St. James area. He married Bonnie
Hippert on Oct. 29, 1957, in St. James. They moved to Chatfield in 1964
and to Brownsdale in 1972.
Swede served in the Army from 1957 to 1962. He was a volunteer for the
Brownsdale Fire Department for 20 years, and also served as fire chief.
He enjoyed family, grandchildren, woodworking, farming and friends.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie, Brownsdale; daughters Sharon and
Steven Garbisch, Brownsdale, Annette and friend (Gary) Nelson, Austin;
son Curtis and friend (April) Nelson, Brownsdale; two grandsons; one
granddaughter; brother Walter and LaVerna Nelson, St. Paul; sister Marlys
and Donny Frederickson, LaSalle; sisters-in-law Jenny Nelson, New Ulm,
Janice Nelson, Kimball, Arlene Nelson, Boxholm; several nieces and nephews.
· Service: 1 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2000 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Brownsdale with the Rev. Robert Finch officiating.
· Interment: Greenwood Cemetery, Brownsdale
· Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2000 at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Brownsdale and one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

Kenneth Nordeen Nelson 1915-2000
Kenneth Nordeen Nelson, age 85, of LeRoy, Mower county, Minnesota, died
Wednesday, March 22, at the Olmsted Hospital in Rochester after suffering
a massive heart attack.
Kenneth was born Jan. 13, 1915 in Lodi Township, Mower County to Julius
and Ella (Erie) Nelson. He attended school near his home and was confirmed
at the West LeRoy Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed farming and running the steam threshing rig with his father.
He later farmed near Adams and Lyle. He later drove a truck for LCL Trucking
Company, and also did construction work. He had been living with his sister
in LeRoy and loved to build lawn ornaments.
Kenneth is survived by his sister, Gladys (Dale) Fortney of LeRoy, and
many cousins.
· Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25 at the Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home
in LeRoy with the Rev. Tom Kolden of the LeRoy Lutheran Church officiating.
· Interment: Burial will be in the church cemetery.
· Visitation: Friends may call from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home
in LeRoy.

Genevieve Neuvirth 1910-2000
Genevieve Neuvirth, 89, of Elkton, Minn. died Saturday morning, March 25,
2000, at the Meadow Manor Nursing Home in Grand Meadow.
Genevieve was born Dec. 24, 1910, in Saginaw County, Mich., the daughter
of Joseph and Bertha (Jaszonowski) Soja. She attended school in Michigan and
was married to Frank** Neuvirth on Sept. 3, 1934, at Boston, Mich. In 1972,
the Neuvirths moved to the Elton area, where Genevieve enjoyed her family,
crocheting and baking. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Frank R. and Gertrude
Neuvirth, Rochester, Robert C. and Janet Neuvirth, Elton, Minn., nine
grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, sister and brother-in-la Florence
and Walter Krakowiak, Belleville, Mich.; brothers and sisters-in-law Stanley
Soja, Ypsilanti, Mich., Chester and Rosemary Soja, Flowerville, Mich, Walter
and Marge Soja, Dearborn Heights, Mich, Robert and Frances Soja, Belleville,
Mich; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, brothers, Raymond, Edward and
Joseph and sister Sophia Pawlowski.
Organist will be Joyce Edland.
Casket bearers will be Brian Neuvirth, Jason Boe, Andrew Neuvirth, Tim Neuvirth, Eric Boe, Jay Neuvirth.
· Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2000 at Sacred heart Catholic Church, Adams, Minn. with the Rev. Gregory Leif officiating.
· Interment: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Adams.
· Visitation: There will be a 7 p.m. Prayer service on Tuesday at the Adams Funeral Home, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Roger A. Orr 1920-2000
Married Lorraine Grunwaldt.
FREEMONT, NEBRASKA -- Roger A. Orr, 79, Fremont, died Monday, March
20, 2000 at the Fremont Area Medical Center.
Roger was born on June 16, 1920 to Albert and Ruby 'Saylor' Orr in Mason
City, Iowa. He grew up there, graduating from high school and the junior
college there.
He served in the military during World War II. Following his military
service, he began working for Hormel's in Austin, Minn. as a livestock
buyer. Roger was with Hormel plants in Montevideo, Minn. and Dallas, Texas.
Then he was with the Fremont plant form 1947 to 1970. From 1970 until 1980,
Roger managed both Hormel plants in Huron, S.D. Upon retiring in 1980, Roger
and his wife moved back to Fremont.
Roger was married on July 23, 1944 in Austin, Minn. to Lorraine Grunwaldt.
Roger was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fremont. He was also a member of the Fremont Masonic Lodge No. 15 AF & AM, the York Rite Masonic Bodies of Fremont, Tangier Shrine Center of Omaha, and the Fremont Shrine Club.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine; daughter Lyn and Jim Dyck, Roca, Beb., Jae Hively, Royersford, Pa.; sons Patrick and Barbara Orr, Hooper, Neb., Jeffrey Orr, Fremont; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
· Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2000 at the First United Methodist
Church in Fremont with Rev. Eugene Watson officiating.
· Interment: Memorial Cemetery.
· Visitation: Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont on Wednesday, March 22 with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. and Thursday morning at the church for an hour before service time.

Roger M. Otto, 55, died Sunday at his home.
He was owner of the old Roger Otto and Associates and a member of
Southeast Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Otto; daughters Jeanette Hansen,
Christine, Gardner and Rachel Branch; sisters Lavonne Bianchi, Marlys
Watros and Carolyn Clapper; and six grandchildren;

Shirley Patch 1926-2000
Shirley J. Patch, 73, Westminster, California, formerly of Austin,
Minnesota, died Monday, March 13, 2000, at Long Beach, Calif. She was
born on July 16, 1926.**
She is survived by her sister, Aloha Patch, Westminster, Calif.; four
nieces, one nephew, nine great-nieces and nephews; eleven great-great
nieces and nephews.
· Service: 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2000 at the Grace Baptist Church
in Austin with Pastor Gordon Larson officiating.

Delmer Dale Peterson1951-2000
Delmer D. Peterson, 75, of 1803 Third St. NE, died Wednesday morning, March 15, 2000, at the Austin Medical Center.
Delmer Dale Peterson was born December 14, 1924 in Grand Meadow, Minn. to George and Elizabeth (Johans) Peterson. During his childhood, he and his twin brother Deward spent many hours building model airplanes and flying them. He continued this hobby in later years. Delmer attended Grand Meadow grade school and high school and went on the mechanical school in Minneapolis.
On Jan. 9, 1951, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Wolfe in Fountain City, Wis. Delmer worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and he was also an operating engineer for Austin Utilities. Besides his family, his other love was music. Before working for Austin Utilities, he played tuba with Ray Stolzenberg throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin.
After his retirement he played with the Austin Community Band. Delmer took classes at the Austin Vocational School. He and his brother-in-law and grand-nieces also formed a dance band and played at many different celebrations. Other interests included fishing, golfing and model railroading, which he continued until stricken with Alzheimers. He spent the last few years being cared for in his home before entering Burr Oak Manor.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Peterson of Austin; two daughters and sons-in-law: Susan (Don) Johnson of Plymouth, Minn. and Judy (Patrick) Morris of Bonner Springs, Kan.; one grandson; a twin brother and sister-in-law Deward (Margie) Peterson of Terre Haute, Ind.; brothers Gerald Peterson of Austin and Francis Peterson of Grand Meadow.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters-in-law Margaret Peterson and Gretchen Peterson.
Services: A memorial mass was held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Virgil Duellman officiating.
Honorary casket bearers were his nieces: Charlotte Haney, Myra Blank, Marilyn Schutz, Georgia Eastvold, Nancy Serabek and Carolyn Sween.
· Visitation: The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.

Grace Alvina (nee Sauer) Sauke1908-2000
Grace Alvina Sauke died at Prairie Manor in Blooming Prairie early Monday
morning, March 6, 2000.
Grace was born November 11, 1908 to Henry and Anna (Sabo) Sauer on the family
farm near Walters in Faribault County, Minn. She attended school in Walters
completing the eighth grade. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran
faith in Walters.
She married Herman C. Sauke on Sept. 27, 1930 in Walters. They farmed
near Walters until 1947 when they moved east of Geneva. Herman died in 1959.
Grace was very active in church work. She taught Sunday School for many years. She worked as a Home Health Aide and also as a Nursing Assistant at Good Samaritan, Albert Lea and Prairie Manor, Blooming Prairie. Grace moved off the farm and into Blooming Prairie in 1975. She retired in 1984.
She is survived by her children Janet and Donald Hope, Blooming Prairie,
Dawn and Clark Nelson, Austin, Dennis and Cheryl Sauke, Ellendale; six
grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters Lula Mattick and
Arvilla Reinlasoder; one sister-in-law Francis Sauer, Blue Earth; numerous
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; her parents, one sister
Pearl and five brothers, Raymond, Syvert, Lyle, Vern and Hilton.
· Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Community Lutheran Church, Geneva with the Pastor Joel Xavier officiating.
· Interment: Geneva Cemetery.
· Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Blooming Prairie Funeral Home.

Don Leon Seiver1918-2000
MARRIED MILDRED MAIDEN
Don Leon Seiver, 81, formerly of Austin, passed away March 3, 2000 in
McAllen, Texas.
Don was born Dec. 8, 1918 in Merten Township, Steele County, Minn. and
was the son of Jennings and Ella Seiver. He graduated from Austin High
School in 1938. On April 27, 1940 Don married Exie Mae Cornelius in Mason
City, Iowa. She passed away in 1962 of cancer.
In 1963 Don met "Millie Marie" Maiden. They fell in love and were married on July 20, 1963 in Austin, Minn.
Don served his country in the US Marine Corps from May 1944 to February 1946. He was a Hormel retiree after 37 years.
Don was an avid outdoors man all his life but loved most to spend time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Mildred; son and daughter-in-law James and Janet Seiver, Rochester, daughter Sherry Maus (Seiver) Menasha, Wis.; sons Larry and Rick Seiver, son and daughter-in-law Donald and Sharon Maiden; daughter and son-in-law Beverly and Lonnie Skalicky all of Austin; son Joseph Seiver, Berkly, Calif; two brothers Lloyd and Clyde Seiver, Austin; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife.
Don was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Fairbault, Minn. He had donated his body to medical research at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
· Service: A Memorial Service was held in McAllen, Texas, Tuesday, March 7, 2000. A Memorial will be held at Queen of Angels Church in Austin sometime in April.

Lori Dee (nee Anderson) Slowinski 1959-2000
Lori Dee Slowinski, 40, of Lyle, Mower County, Minnesota, died Monday
morning, March 27, 2000 at Austin Medical Center.
Lori was born August 6, 1959 in Columbus, Ohio to LaVerne and LaRaye
(Lomholt) Anderson. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1977 and
then from Austin Vo-tech in 1984 as an LPN. She worked at St. Mark's
Lutheran Home for ten years and most recently volunteered at South End
Bar and Grill. Lori was united in marriage to Eugene "Gene" Slowinski on
Oct. 6, 1979. She enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family,
especially her granddaughter.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene, Lyle, daughter Kristan Slowinski
and special friend Robert Garson, Austin; two sons Nicholas Slowinski and
Brandon Slowinski and special friend Shannon Engler, all of Lyle; one
granddaughter Samantha Slowinski, Austin; mother LaRaye Anderson, Albert
Lea; father and stepmother Laverne (Shirley) Anderson, Albert Lea;
grandmother Merle Anderson, Hayward; two sisters LuAnn Lechnir, Mason City,
Iowa, and Lisa Anderson, Freeborn; brother and sister-in-law Todd (Marcie)

Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

Esther M. Sundberg c1915-2000
Esther M. Sundberg, 84, of Austin died March 23, 2000 at St. Mark's
Lutheran Home.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; two daughters, Joyce McKee and
Patricia Radford (Warren) Austin; two step-sons Michael Sundberg, Wisconsin,
Bruce Sundberg, Florida; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one
great-great grandchild; step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
· Service: Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2000, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kristin K. Wee officiating. There will be no visitation or reviewal.

Margaret J. (nee Reiling) Tapp 1945-2000
Margaret J. Tapp, 54, of Houston, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at her home.
The daughter of Leo and Ann (Anthofer) Reiling was born Nov. 2, 1945, at
Carroll, Iowa and later moved to Dexter in 1958, where she met her husband,
James. The couple was married Dec. 29, 1965 at St. Finbarr's Catholic Church, Grand Meadow.
She was the "first-ever Employee of the Quarter" at Sauer Memorial Home, Winona, and worked as a nursing assistant for over 30 years. She was the 1999 honoree at the annual Rivertown Shuffle at Winona.
She is survived by her husband James, Houston; sons Michael (Wendy) Tapp, Winona, Patrick Tapp, Rose Creek, Thomas (Andrea) Tapp, Rose Creek; three grandchildren Courtney, Alicia and Rayce; brothers Mark Reiling, Owatonna, William Reiling, Pine Island; sisters Mary Ann Meek, Elgin, Ill., Ida Slettum, Minnetonka, and Doreen Busho, Blooming Prairie; her mother Ann Reiling, Austin; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Vernon and Mildred Tapp, Lake City.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leo Reiling, nephew Danny Meek and brother-in-law David Tapp.
Pall bearers were Andrew Slettum, Daniel Hanson, Jesse Meek, Steven Busho and Anthony Reiling.
Honorary bearers were all nieces and nephews.
· Service: The service was at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2000 with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus Ksotka Church with the Rev. Robert G. Meyer officiating. Preliminary services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home.
· Visitation: Visitation was from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 at Watkowski-Pronshinske Funeral Home with a wake service at 8 p.m.
· Interment: Greenwood Cemetery, Brownsdale where Rev. Hubert Boschert, SJ, officiated.

Emma (nee Naig) Tow 1902-2000
Emma Naig Tow, age 98, of Route 1, Rose Creek, died Friday evening, March
4, 2000 at her home.
Emma Naig Tow, the daughter of Bertel and Johanna Naig, was born Feb.
19, 1902, in Independence Township near Depew, Iowa where she attended
country school and then worked in the homes of neighbors and friends. She
married John Tow in January 1938. They farmed near Cylinder and Depew, Iowa
for a few years and then moved near Sargeant, Minn. in 1949 and finally near
Rose Creek in 1951. Three children were born to their union, Joyce Elaine,
Karen Jeanette and Dennis Eugene. Emma was a member of Six Mile Grove
Lutheran Church since 1951. Emma passed from this life on March 3, 2000.
She was 98 years old.
Survivors include daughter, Joyce Tow of Rose Creek; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Lee Tow of Lebanon, Va.; four grandchildren; half sister, Bertha Johnson of Ringstead, Iowa; three half brothers, Berger Naig of Fairmont; Joe Naig of Ringstead, Iowa; Silas Naig of Seattle, Wash.; three sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews and cousins.
· Service: Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 7, 2000 at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church, Lyle, with the Rev. Lydia Mittag officiating.
· Interment: South St. John's Cemetery in Depew, Iowa on Monday, March 6, 2000.
There will be no visitation or reviewal.

Mildred Francis (Janning) Tracy1917-2000
Mildred F. Tracy, 82, of 200 Seventh St. NW, died Monday morning, March
6, 2000, at Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie.
Mildred Francis was born July 24, 1917 in Templeton, Iowa to Henry and
Catherine (Wittrock) Janning. On Sept. 3, 1934 she was united in marriage to
Raymond Tracy at St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie. Mildred
worked as a resident supervisor at Woodvale.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Tracy of Austin; two sons and
daughters-in-law: Vernon and Barbara Tracy of Rose Creek, Richard and
Kristi Tracy of Austin; four daughters: Lois Hellen of Minneapolis; Joanne
Mauer of Stacyville, Iowa; Karen Tracy of Escondito, Calif.; Terry Tracy of
Rose Creek; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three brothers and
sisters-in-law: Elmer Eileen Janning of Blooming Prairie; Lloyd Janning of
Austin; Herbert and Nona Janning of Austin; three sisters and
brothers-in-law: Valeria and John Rauen of Stacyville, Iowa; Edith and
Archie Hanson of Austin; Marietta and Dan Braun of Adams.
She is preceded in death by an infant daughter, three brothers, two
sisters, two grandchildren and two sons-in-law.
The casket bearers will be Dale Tracy, Dean Tracy, Michael Mauer, Ronald Hellen, Rick Hellen, Randy Hellen, Nicholas Tracy and Jonathan Tracy.
· Services: A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday,
March 9, 2000 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson and
Father Clayton Haberman officiating.
· Interment: Calvary Cemetery
· Visitation: There will be a 6:30 p.m. rosary on Wednesday at Mayer
Funeral Home where friends may call from 5-8 p.m. and also from 9-10 a.m.
on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Alzheimer's Research
at the Mayo Clinic or Prairie Manor Nursing Home.

Charles L. Ulwelling c1919-2000
Charles L. (Chuck) Ulwelling 81, formerly of Austin, passed away at his
home in Norwalk, Los Angeles County, California, on February 26, 2000. [He
was born on July 3, 1918, according to the Social Security Death Index.]

Richard Hudson Warrington1917-1999
Richard Hudson Warrington, 82, of La Canada, California, passed away
November 6, 1999. The cause of death was pancreatic cancer.
Dick, as he was known, was born Feb. 2, 1917, at the family farm, outside
of Austin, Minn. He was the 12th and last child of Sam and Nettie Warrington.
Dick graduated from Austin High School in 1935. Soon after he joined his
brother Cedric in Pasadena, Calif. Together they established Warrington Auto
Service and Warrington Garage.
They also shared a ranch near the Salton Sea where they fished and hunted.
Their brothers and sister form Minnesota, Oregon and Chicago often join Dick
and Stub there.
He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne, Piedmont, Calif., Patricia, Northridge, Calif., son John, Lisle, Ill., son-in-law Paul Daniele; daughter-in-law Colleen Warrington; seven grandchildren Jim, Anne, Andrew, Maggie, John, Kathleen and Ryan, two sisters-in-law Vila (Mrs. Cedric) Warrington, Lodi, Calif. and Dolly (Mrs. Harold) Warrington, Austin, Minn. and numerous nieces and nephew including Ruth Heiny, Shirley Guy and Meridee Robinson, Austin, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Doris Elizabeth.
· Service: Graveside services were held in San Gabriel, Calif.

Jerry Dean Wencl 1948-2000
Jerry D. Wencl, 52, Austin, died Saturday evening March 25, 2000 at the
Austin Medical Center.
Jerry Dean was born March 3, 1948 in Austin, Minn. to James and Mildred
(Christensen) Wencl. He was raised in Austin and attended Austin Public
Schools. After high school he joined the United States Army and also
attended Austin community College. Jerry was united in marriage to Kathleen
Whalen on December 30, 1977 in Austin. They have resided at the same
residence for the last 24 years. Jerry has been employed by the City of
Austin in the Street Department for the last 28 years. He enjoyed farming,
hunting, fishing, wood working, spending time with his family and doing
things for friends. While his children were growing up, he was involved in
their 4-H, FFA, sports, church and other activities. Jerry was one of the
first members of the RCI Program at St. Edward's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Kathy G. Wencl,
Austin; sons Jeffrey M. Godfredson, Twenty Nine Palms, Calif., Douglas
M. Godfredson, Florida, James D. Wencl, Austin; daughters Sheila A. and
Roger Bentzin, Cheri Semones and a special friend Craig Bentzin and Sara
Wencl and special friend Paul Silbaugh all of Austin; nine grandchildren;
his mother Mildred Wencl, Austin; brothers Dennis and Patti Wencl,
Minneapolis and Gary and Audrey Wencl, Austin. Sisters, Sharon and Bill
Lewis and Linda and Arnold Wolff, Austin, Paulette and Robert Lee,
Bloomington and Darci Rehagen, Chattanooga, Tenn.; mother-in-law Eileen

· Visitation: There was a 7 p.m. prayer service on Tuesday evening at Mayer Funeral Home where friends could call from 4 to 8 p.m. and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. this morning.

Nancy Grimley Adams 1943-2000
Nancy Grimley Adams, 57, passed away early Monday, May 1, 2000 at her home in La Costa, Calif.
She was born March 13, 1943 to Nellie Anderson and Duane Grimley in Austin, Minn.
Nancy was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her family and friends all knew her for her compassion, sense of humor and love. She was a remarkable woman that could light up any room with her smile.
She is survived by her three daughters, Anne Bischoff, Rebecca Alexander, Katherine Adams; son Bradley; sister Carol McWilliams, Carmichael, Calif; two brothers Thomas Grimley, and Chris Anderson; and step-father, Arlen Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary.
· Service: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 6 at 3 p.m. at the San Dieguito United Methodist Church, 170 Calle Magdalena, Encinitas, Calif. with the Rev. Melanie Silva officiating.
Contributions may be made in her name to the San Diego Center.

Russel E. Biscop 1930-2000
Russel E. Biscop, 70, of Dexter, died Friday afternoon, May 5, 2000, at
St. Mark's Lutheran Home. Memorial services are pending and arrangements
will be announced later by Mayer Funeral Home.
Russel was born Jan. 19, 1930, in Central City, Neb., to Felix and
Katharine (Engelbrecht) Biscop. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having
served as an airplane mechanic. He was an employee of Weyerhaeuser and later
worked for Arnold's Supply of Rochester.
Survivors include a sister, Arleen Kraft of Austin; niece, Linda Lassahn
of Burnsville; nephew, Randall Kraft, Kenai, Alaska and a great nephew, Rich
Lassahn, St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Katharine Biscop.
· Service: A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May
10, at Mayer Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Peterson officiating.
· Interment: Dexter Cemetery
· Visitation: Friends may call a half hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Wednesday.

Kenneth M. Combs Sr. 1910-2000
Kenneth M. Combs Sr., 89, of 708 First Ave. NW, died of cancer Sunday, May 7, 2000, at the Austin Medical Center.
Ken was born May 16, 1910, in Mason, Ill. On June 29, 1929, he was united in marriage to Margaret Norton at St. Francis Xavier Church in Windom. They moved to Austin in 1932 and he worked at Hormel Foods Corp. for 40 years. He retired in 1968. He then was a Rusco Window Dealer, had a carpet-cleaning business and managed apartment complexes for 35 years. Ken enjoyed traveling, golf, hunting, grandchildren and friends. Ken will be remembered for his good sense of humor, his big heart and his tough spirit.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Combs of Austin; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth Jr. (Dorothy) Combs of Des Moines, Iowa, and Bill (Holly) Combs of Mariposa, Calif.; five daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jo (Charles) Edwards, Austin, Carolyn (Steve) Tabor, Austin, Betty (Jack) Beecroft, Amery, Wis., Helen (John) Scheid, Rochester, Margaret (Don) Pell, Santa Ana, Calif.; 26 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, June, Rosalee and Lois.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father and nine brothers and sisters.
· Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Louis Cook officiating.

Irene (Schroeder) Eichstadt 1934-2009
Irene G. Eichstadt, age 75, of Austin, died at her home on Friday, July
17, 2009.
Irene was born on March 6, 1934 to Arthur and Viola Schroeder, in Nicollet
County, Minn. She grew up in the area and graduated from Dr. Martin Luther
High School. She then graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College with a
teaching degree. On June 27, 1956 Irene married Melvin E. Eichstadt, of
Sandborn, Minn. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet.
Irene was a teacher, department store sales clerk at Younkers and
homemaker and a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Church. She was also a
member of Ladies Aid.
Irene enjoyed her flower garden, coin and stamp collecting and bird
watching.
She is survived by her husband: Melvin Eichstadt, Austin; four sons:
Pastor Michael (Susan) Eichstadt, Hales Corners, Wis., Brian (Maureen)
Eichstadt, Coon Rapids, Minn., Dean (Tammy) Eichstadt, Greenville, Pa.,

Stephen, Lauren, Gretchen, Eric, Rachel, Madison, Sarah, Caleb and Anna;
four sisters: Elaine (Donald) Schwecke, Gibbon, Minn., Evelyn (Virgil)
Bode, Nicollet, Minn., Margaret (Kenneth) Biesterfeld, Crete, Ill., and
Ruth (Michael) Wiechmann, New Berlin, Wis.; nieces, nephews, aunts and
uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July, 21, 2009
at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Ted
Barthels officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Friends
may call from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday and one hour before the service at
the church. The family prefers memorials in lieu of flowers to the
American Cancer Society or donor’s choice.

Curtis A. Lee1926-2009
Curtis A. Lee, age 83, formerly of Austin, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 10, 2009 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, Wis. surrounded by his family.
Curt was born on Jan. 15, 1926 to the late Helmer J. and Olga C. (Amundson) Lee in Woodville, Wis. He proudly served our country during World War II in the U. S. Army Air Corps. After being honorably discharged, he attended and graduated from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1950 with a bachelor of science degree in science and math and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1958 with a master’s degree. On Aug. 10, 1946, Curt married the love of his life, Eva Jean Simonson, in Baldwin, Wis.
During his life Curt worked as a teacher and retired after 33 years of service from Austin High School in Austin. He was a member of the American Legion and the Elks Club. Curt enjoyed golfing, hunting, nature, and being with his family, especially spending quality time with his granddaughter, Elizabeth. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean; son, Tracy, and his wife, Sheila, of Lakewood, Colo.; granddaughter, Elizabeth; sister, Arlene Posey, Ladysmith, Wis.; brother, Rollie, Baldwin, Wis.; nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harvey and Robert “Hub.”
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, 2009 at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4611 Commerce Valley Rd., Eau Claire, Wis. (715) 830 5470. Interment will be at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to email@evergreenfuneralhome.com.

Gudrun (Paulson) Hardingc1912-2009
Gudrun Paulson Harding, age 97, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on July
13, 2009.
Gudrun grew up on a farm in South Dakota and attended college at St. Cloud
Teachers’ College and at Bemidji State Teachers’ College where she met her
husband, Russell Harding. They were married on June 15, 1940 and spent the
next five years teaching at the Chippewa Indian Reservation at Onamia, Minn.
Gudrun and Russell worked with Native American parents raising a large garden
and canning the produce to be used for a very successful school lunch program.
She continued to teach elementary grade students for the next 43 years,
primarily at the Lincoln school in Austin. She did graduate work at the
University of Minnesota.
“Goodie” was passionate about her students, social justice and the
protection of the environment and was active in the DFL party, AARP, the
Retired Teachers Association, and the Hormel Nature Center. She took a
lively interest in her nieces and nephews, and in the hunderds of students
who had been in her classroom, many of whom will remember being intently
quizzed about their pursuits and interests. Several of them traveled with
the Hardings in the mobile science lab and throughout the world. They
invited children of migrants to share their home so they could complete
their school year in Minnesota. Goodie was known to care for the pets of
her students when the families vacationed and had in her possession until
she died, the class pictures of many of her students.
She completed a one-year sabbatical in England studying the English
school system and continued to travel throughout Europe in the VW bus with
Russell during her final year of teaching at age 65. She and Russell had
been married 65 years when he died in 2005.
Gudrun is survived by her sister, Virginia Zoebisch and was preceded
in death by her husband and by her sister Astrid and brother Evert.
A memorial service for Gudrun Harding will held on Monday, July 20,
2009 in the chapel at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home, 400 15 Ave. SW Austin at
11:30 a.m. Memorials are preferred to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF in lieu of
flowers.

Oliver L. “Andy” Anderson1924-2009
Oliver Leo “Andy” Anderson, 85, of Austin, died at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester on July 18, 2009.
He was born Feb. 22, 1924 to Leo C. and Almeda Dena (Evans) Anderson in Denver, Colo. where he attended grade school and high school. After working at various jobs in the area he joined the Navy in 1942. He married Harriet Dugan in 1943 in New Hampshire. After earning First Class in the Navy, he was honorably discharged in 1946. Andy and Harriet moved to Austin where Andy worked for Hormel in several departments including: prepared sausage, flavor seal, cost test and Spam. Harriet passed away in 1969. By this time Andy was foreman in the mechanical division.
He married Dorothy (Tyrer) Miller on April 9, 1971 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church Chapel. Dorothy passed away on June 29, 2006. After retiring on Feb. 22, 1985 from Hormel, Oliver worked part time at Regners Machine shop, satisfying his interest in machines. He had several hobbies including: hunting, fishing, golfing, rifle shooting and bowling. He repaired many outboard motors and cut down trees. A member of the American Legion, VFW and Moose Lodge, he enjoyed telling friends and grandchildren of his experiences growing up in Denver. He was also an avid reader.
Survivors include four children, Douglas Anderson, National City, Calif., Tracy (Betty) Anderson, Colorado Springs, Colo., Scott (Carole) Anderson, Englewood, Colo., Sybil Frazier, Denver, Colo.; one brother, James (Lori) Anderson, Woodland Park, Colo.; brother-in-law, Kenneth “Mac” Tyrer, Austin; three step daughters, Lana (Fred) Grimm, St. Mary’s, Ga., Nancy (Ronald) Kliewer, St. Mary’s, Debra (Stanley) Sjodahl, Sandstone; nine grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; fifteen step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both wives, Dorothy and Harriet; his parents; his stepfather; a brother; a sister and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91. Worlein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to American Heart Assoication or Austin Medical Center.

Alberta J. (Nagle) Soli 1920-2009
MRS. EMMET SOLI
Alberta J. Soli, 89, of Lincoln, Nebraska, died on July 17, 2009 at the
home of her niece, Kimbra Underdahl, in Lincoln.
She was born May 6, 1920 in Preston, Minn. to Lon and Eva (Inglebret)
Nagle. She attended Preston High School. Following high school she and her
brother Donald, with two friends, had a dance band that played for local
events. After working a short time in Minneapolis she moved to Austin, and
was employed until retirement, 36 years, for the George A. Hormel Co. in
the Dairy Pack department. She married Emmet Soli in August of 1946 and
they made their home in Austin. Alberta enjoyed her home, gardening, family
and friends. She and Emmet were charter members of Our Saviors Lutheran
Church in Austin.
Alberta is survived by her brother, Donald, Austin; sister, Bernice
Underdahl, Lincoln, Neb.; nieces, Kimbra Underdahl, Lincoln; Barbara
Carney, Mesa, Ariz.; nephew, Lon Nagle, Austin.
Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Emmet; her parents and
nephew, Bruce Nagle.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at
Our Saviors Lutheran Church with the Reverend Karen Behling Officiating.
Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be at
Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and for one hour
before the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to
Our Saviors Lutheran Church or the Austin Humane Society.

LeRoy R. Broecher, 76, 1102 22nd Ave. SW, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at
St. Mark's Lutheran Home.
He is survived by his wife Wilma Broecher, Austin; daughter and son-in-law,
Barb and Gregg Erstad, Austin; son and daughter-in-law, Brand and Sherry
Broecher; three grandchildren, Evan, Kylene and Garrett; sister and
brother-in-law, Dolores and Jerry Wagner, Mankato.

Margaret (nee Daigneau) Bulger 1919-2000
Margaret Daigneau "Grammie" Bulger, 80, of Edina and formerly of Austin
and Park Rapids, died May 30, 2000.
Margaret was born in Austin on Aug. 18, 1919. She attended Austin High
School and studied botany at Carleton College.
She lived in Austin until 1971 when she and her husband Bob moved to
Potato Lake in Park Rapids. Those who knew Peg will remember her for her
quick wit, incredible knowledge and sense of grace. She enjoyed nature
and sports and her varied interests included cooking, reading, knitting,
golf and card playing. She taught Sunday school at First Congregational
Church, was active as an Austin hospital volunteer and a Girl Scout Leader,
and was a member of PEO, the Floral Club, Austin Country Club and Lynnhurst
Congregational Church in Minneapolis.
A very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was
the center of her family's lives. She will be deeply missed her family and
many friends.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Robert; son, Robert
(Merilee) Bulger; daughters, Margaret (Richard) Brimacomb, Candace (Douglas)
Van Thorre, all of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; cousins, Robert Zuehlke, Tucson, Ariz., and Larry
Daigneau, Austin; sister-in-law, Gudrun Bulger; niece and several nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ralph and Rosalie Daigneau, sister, Dorothy, and infant son, Ralph.
· Service: 1 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2000, at Lynnhurst Congregational Church, 4501 Colfax Ave. South, Minneapolis.
· Interment: Private interment at Lakewood Cemetery.

Gerald E. Culbert 1929-2000
Gerald E. Culbert, age 71, of LeSueur died on Monday, May 22, 2000 at
Abbot-Northwestern Hospital.
He was born on April 18, 1929 near Austin to Arthur and Edna (Stream)
Culbert. He married Dorothy Schubert on Dec. 17, 1949, at Austin. They
moved to Belle Plaine in 1951 and shortly thereafter moved to Henderson
and then various locations near LeSueur. They moved to LeSueur in 1993.
He worked for many years at the LeSueur foundry (LeSueur, Inc.) He also
worked for many years at Mediger's Skelly Station in LeSueur. He enjoyed
playing cards, fishing and watching stock car racing.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; three sons, Larry Culbert and
his wife Joan of LeSueur, Gary Culbert and his wife Diane of LeSueur and
Randall Culbert and his wife Evelyn of Henderson; three daughters, Carole
Ernst and her husband Kevin of Henderson, Debbie Larson and her husband
Darrell of LeSueur and Sharon Audus and her husband Jeff of LeSueur; 18
grandchildren; six great-grandchild; four sisters, Dorothy Sullivan of
Austin, Eunice Tippman of and her husband Gordon of Caledonia, Minn.,
Lola Loverink and her husband harm of Lyle and June Taylor of Albert Lea.
He was preceded in death by one brother and two grandsons.
Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 25 at the Kolden Funeral
Home in LeSueur. Jerry Pitchford will officiate.
Interment: Brown Cemetery at Henderson.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kolden Funeral Home in LeSueur
