Mrs. James (Edna) Taylor, 74, died Wednesday night at her home on Plymouth Avenue, Austin Rt. 4.

Surviving are her husband; two sons, Chester Taylor, Austin Rt. 4, James A. Taylor, Austin Rt. 1; three daughters: Mrs. Harold (Bernice) Kuhl, Hastings, Minnesota, Mrs. Sidney (Edna) Russell, Mrs. Stanley (Elizabeth) Brewster, Austin; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Rhoda Lastine, Austin; five brothers: Bernie and Burton Anderson, Austin, Allen Anderson, Albert Lea, Gilbert Anderson, Sargeant, and Kenneth Anderson, Rose Creek.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday.

Myrtle Elizabeth (nee Goldsberry)
WHITCOMB

1910-2000

Myrtle Elizabeth Whitcomb, 90, died Dec. 24, 2000, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.

She was born Feb. 5, 1910, in Iowa. She was the daughter of Francis and Rozella Felkey Goldsberry.

Myrtle married Harold Whitcomb on Nov. 26, 1930, and was a lifelong resident of Austin.

She was a member of Assembly of God Evangel Church of Austin.

Mrs. Whitcomb is survived by four sons, Donald (Mildred), Austin, James (Joanne), Hayfield, Roger (Sue) Phoenix, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren;

Mrs. Whitcomb was preceded in death by her husband Harold and a son, Eugene.

Service: 2 p.m. Thursday at Evangel Community Church with the Rev. David Simerson and A.D. Sturm officiating.

Interment: Grandview Cemetery

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and on Thursday for one hour before the service at the church.

Raymond Munson

1918-2000

Raymond Munson, 82, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Burr Oak Manor.

He was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Belmont, Iowa, and never married. Ray grew up on a farm near Belmont. He entered World War II and was in the tank division. Ray served under Gen. Patton and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He served five campaigns. Before retirement, he raised mink on a mink farm.

He is survived by a brother, Milton Munson of Rose Creek.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Service: 2 p.m. Thursday at Worlein Funeral Home

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post No. 1216

Visitation: Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials: Family prefers memorials to donor's choice.

Warren Edward Rector

1923-2009

Warren Edward Rector, age 85, of Austin, died peacefully early Friday morning, July 3, 2009 when he went to be with his Savior.

He was born Aug. 2, 1923 to Clarence and Anne (Anderson) Rector in Minneapolis. The family moved to Austin where Warren grew up and attended school, graduating from Austin High School in 1941. He joined the Navy on Jan. 26, 1943. He maintained boats in Hawaii and was honorably discharged on Jan. 17, 1946. He was confirmed by Pastor Arthur L. Schultz in 1950. After nine years as a fireman for Milwaukee Road, Warren went to work for Hormel Foods.

He married Lorene Meyer on June 27, 1954 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Henning, Minn. Warren retired in 1985 and delivered motor homes part time. A member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, he enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene of Austin; daughters, Leann (Robert) Becker of Eagan, Susan (Al) Kowalke of Woodbury; son, Bruce Rector of New York City, New York; four grandchildren, Marisa and Alexandra Becker, Erin and Sara Kowalke; brother, Richard (Joan) Rector of Corpus Christi, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Warren Schmidt officiating. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.

Worlein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Roy Ridenour

LEROY, MINNESOTA -- Mrs. Roy Ridenour, 68, died on Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital, Cresco, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at the Presbyterian church here. Burial will be in LeRoy Cemetery.

Martz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Surviving are her husband; two sons, Wayne, Elkton and Glen, LeRoy; a daughter, Mrs. Howard Crabb, Sac City; 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Frances M. (nee Spinler) Mullenbach

1939-2009

Frances M. Mullenbach, 69, of Adams, died on July 3, at her home, after her battle with leukemia.

Frances was born Nov. 8, 1939 to Fred and Frances (Pester) Spinler in Medford, Minnesota. Frances married Wayne Mullenbach on Sept. 25, 1962 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Medford. They lived on the family farm in rural Adams where they resided until moving into Adams in 1994. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg, Minnesota and CCW. Frances loved being with family. She also loved to travel, dance and do crafts. She enjoyed having coffee with friends at Bubbles Café.

She is survived by her children, Lori (Kevin) Blowers, New Richland, Minnesota, Pat (Kris) Mullenbach, Adams, Minnesota, Randy Mullenbach, LeRoy, Minnesota, Tim Mullenbach, Rose Creek, Minnesota, Betty Mullenbach, Adams; grandchildren, Daniel, Megan, Claire and Lauren Mullenbach of Adams, Lucas Schmitz, Pete, Samiha and Bridgette Blowers of New Richland, Minn.; sisters and brothers, Millie Ehrich, Owatonna, Minnesota, Marge Ryg, West Concord, Minn., Jake (Julie) Spinler, Medford, Minnesota, Tom (Ruth) Spinler, New Prague, Minnesota; sisters-in-Law, Evangline Binzer, Thousand Palms, Calif., Cleo Osmundson, Adams, Jurine (David) Smith, Adams, LaVonne (Slim) Landherr, Adams; brothers-in-Law, Elmer (Donna) Mullenbach, Adams, (Fuddy) Allen Mayer, Adams; nieces and nephews.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; one brother and one sister.

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Johnsburg, Minnesota with Father James Seitz and Father Ruben Spinler Officiating. Visitation will be Monday, July 6, 2009 at the Adams Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 4:30 p.m. There will be a visitation at the church on Tuesday for one hour before the service. Interment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Johnsburg.

Ralph Evens Grant

1917-2009

Ralph Evens Grant, 92, of Brownsdale, Minnesota, died on July 5, 2009, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Ralph Evens Grant was born on April 25, 1917, the son of Raymond and Clara (Evens) Grant in Brownsdale. He attended Brownsdale Country School. Ralph was united in marriage to Eldora Gerard at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City, Iowa on Aug. 28, 1937.

He was employed and operated many businesses, which included the Roller Rink in the old Masonic Lodge building, Grant Construction, G & G Window Company, and he was a sales person for Countryside Farm Supply. He retired in the early 1980’s. Ralph was a member of the Lions Club, Business Men of Brownsdale and the Brownsdale Fire Department. Ralph enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, camping with family and friends and restoring old cars.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Eldora Grant, Brownsdale; Janice (Darrel) Harvey, Brownsdale; Dennis Grant, Chaska, Minnesota; James (Nancy) Grant, Renville, Minn.; Wesley Grant, Holmen, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Eunice Doocy, Blooming Prairie, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters-in-law and one great-grandchild.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2009, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brownsdale with the Reverend Jeffrey Sage officiating. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Brownsdale. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Brownsdale and one hour before the service on Friday.

Gladys (Hegtvedt) Busse, 90, of Stuart, Fla., formerly of Austin, died Dec. 14, 2000.

She was born in Decorah, Iowa and resided in Austin and Adams for 45 years. She spent the past ten years in Florida.

She is survived by her son, Albert J. (Phyllis) Halquist, Spokane, Wash.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

She was laid to rest with her husband Arden Busse in Decorah, Iowa.

Irene Jeanette (nee Hanson) Anderson

1914-2000

Irene Jeanette Anderson, 86, of Austin, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Austin Medical Center.

Irene Jeanette Hanson, the daughter of Eddie and Anna (Nesset) Hanson, was born March 15, 1914, in DeGraff. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in DeGraff and confirmed at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church near Lyle. She attended country school near Lyle.

On November 9, 1933, she married Vernon Myles Anderson at the parsonage of Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church.

The couple lived and farmed in the Lyle and Adams area before moving into Austin in 1960. Irene worked as a cook at Watts Cooking and as a housekeeper for the Kopet family. After Vernon's death on Nov. 13, 1982, Irene continued to make her home in Austin, moving to Pickett Place in 1995.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she assisted the church in keeping in contact with the ill and shut-ins for 25 years.

Survivors include her son, Ronald (Lorna) Anderson, Lubbock, Texas; a daughter, Janice (Jim) Ingersoll, Austin; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Morris Hanson and sister, Gladys Tischer.

Service: Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Austin, with Rev. Harold Deye officiating.

Interment: Grandview Cemetery, Austin.

Visitation: Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. today and at the church one hour before the service on Thursday.

Memorials: Grace Lutheran Church or St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

Hilda Lee “Angel” (nee Brown) Dekker

1946-2009

Hilda Lee “Angel” Dekker, 62, of Austin, passed away at her home on July 4, 2009 after a long illness.

Born in Lewisberg, Ky. to John and Ruby Lee (Cobb) Brown on Oct. 20, 1946, Angel married Dale James Dekker on April 26, 1986 in Henderson, Ky. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing Yahtzee, cooking for everyone she knew and playing with her beloved dog, Tiny, who was with her until the end.

She is survived by her husband, Dale, Austin; four children, James Earl (Wilma) Arnold, Dunmor, Ky.; Teresa Ann Arnold, Austin; Barbara Lee Grube, Austin; Jason Thomas (Theresa) Dekker, Owatonna; three step children; nine grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one brother, Finis Brown, Hopkinsville, Ky.; one sister, Ethel (Jerry) Bruneault, Evansville, Ind.; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, six brothers and six sisters.

At Hilda's request, no service will be held – just a family and friends picnic to be held at a later date. Worlein Funeral Home, Austin is in charge of arrangements.

Melvin Bernard Harpuder

1919-2009

Melvin Bernard Harpuder was born on June 1, 1919 in Middleport, N.Y. to Rudolph and Harriet Harpuder. He graduated from Middleport High School. During that time, he helped out at the family business. Harpuder's Clothing store. He also attended Ithaca College. After three years of service in the U.S. Army, he signed with the New York Giants baseball system, starting in Jersey City, N.J.

Mel, a longtime resident of Austin, retired from Hormel after 33 years. He spent over 20 years of his retirement in Yuma, Ariz. Mel and Dody recently moved to the Kasson area to be near family. He was a member of the Community Celebration Church in Kasson and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris; son, Craig Harpuder, Austin; daughters, Vicki Bennerotte, Plymouth, Brenda (Claude) Schuhwerck, Oakdale; Pastor Susan (Jeff) Iverson, Mantorville; four grandchildren and two nieces.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Visitation will be on July 8, at Community Celebration Church in Kasson from 5 to 7 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be at the church on July 9, at 11 a.m. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Dibble Funeral Home in Kasson is in charge of arrangements.

Chester E. Martin, 69, a former Grand Meadow resident, died on February 28, 1955 at Los Angeles.

Funeral services were held in Los Angeles with burial at Brainerd. He is survived by a son and two sisters. Mr. Martin was active in the Grand Meadow Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge.

Frances Wells

LeROY, MINNESOTA -- A former LeRoy resident, Frances Wells McKnight, 83, died at a hospital in Pasadena, California. The body was cremated and ashes will arrive here for burial.

Mrs. McKnight was born April 15, 1873, on a farm south of LeRoy. Her early life was spent as a teacher and seamstress. About 40 years ago she married Eugene McKnight, who died in 1938. She lived in western Minnesota and North Dakota before going to Altada, Calif., about ten years ago.

Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. F.L. Roy, LeRoy, Minn., and Lura Lowe, Pasadena; and a a brother, Roy Wells, Youngstown, Canada.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Finbarr Catholic Church, Grand Meadow, with the Rev. David Polich and the Rev. Matthew Vanissery officiating. Interment will be in St. Finbarr Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a 6:30 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. prayer service at Hutchins Funeral Home, Grand Meadow, Minn. There will be further visitation one hour prior to services at the church.

Joseph Anthony Stejskal was born Nov. 28, 1918, at Pocahontas, Iowa.

He married Florence "Fluff" Point on April 27, 1942, in Rolfe, Iowa.

He was formerly of Pocahontas, Iowa, and had lived 46 years in Grand Meadow.

Survivors include his wife, Florence "Fluff" Stejskal of Grand Meadow, Minn.; his children, Jerry Stejskal of Winona, Nancy (Mrs. Virgil) Weiss of Grand Meadow, Sally Stejskal of Mason City, Iowa, Thomas Stejskal of Grand Meadow, Becky Stejskal of Grand Meadow, Larry Stejskal of Apache Junction, Ariz., Penny (Mrs. John) Bremseth of Rochester, Minn., Sherry Stejskal of Grand Meadow, and Kelly (Mrs. Wayne) Averbeck of Jerome, Idaho; 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank Stejskal of Cape Coral, Fla.; and four sisters, Eleanor (Mrs. John) Polich of Urbandale, Anne (Mrs. Ray) Harald of Pocahontas, Judy (Mrs. Cleo) Flaherty and Marie (Mrs. Leo) Pattee, both of Pocahontas.

Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hutchins Funeral Home in Grand Meadow and an hour before the service Wednesday at the church. The rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

LEROY, MINNESOTA - Esther A. Koppen, 73, of 810 N. Mather St., LeRoy, died Thursday (Nov. 23, 1995) at home.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in LeRoy, with Father Donald Leary officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hutchins Funeral Home, LeRoy, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and on Monday one hour before services at the church.

Esther A. Koppen was born July 26, 1922 at Williams, Iowa, a daughter of Charles Olson and Helen (Fleuch) Olson.

She married Ferd Koppen on Dec 9, 1942, at Williams, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1979.

She managed a hardware store owned by her husband.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in LeRoy and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lois Swancutt of Osco, Ill., and Joyce (Mrs. Darold) Nuehring of Mason City, Iowa; two sons, Edwin Koppen of LeRoy and Marvin Koppen of Maplewood; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Gladys Clover of Des Moines, Iowa, and Ida Kretlow of Duncombe, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one granddaughter and one infant brother.

Donald E. Kraft

1926-2009

Donald Ernest Kraft, 82, of Austin, died on July 9, 2009 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.

Donald was born Aug. 19, 1926 in Elkton, Minn. to Ernest and Hildur (Larson) Kraft. He was baptized, confirmed and married at St. John's Lutheran Church

in Elkton. He attended school in Elkton and served in the U.S. Army. On Aug. 22, 1948 he married Mable Hagen. Donald, an only child who lost his mother at an early age, was the proud father of nine children. Donald worked in the custodial department of Austin Public Schools for 39 years, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed time at his cabin on the lake, traveling to Florida, dancing to old time music, painting and upkeep on the house and especially loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Donald is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mable Kraft, Austin; sons, Robert (Ruth) Kraft, Oronoco, Minn., Dr. Richard (Suzanne) Kraft, Anoka, Minn., Roy (Carol) Kraft, Crosslake, Minn., Randall Kraft, Eagan, Minn., Ronald (Sharon) Kraft, Cleveland, Minn., Russell (Marcy) Kraft, Celebration, Fla.; daughter, Rita (Stephen) Sand, Austin; 11 grandchildren, Annie Kraft, Shanna Kraft, John (Anne) Sand, Timothy (Andrea) Kraft, Joseph (Amanda) Sand, Christina (Joshua) Kraft, Tyler Kraft, Anthony Kraft, Katelynn Kraft, Thomas Kraft, Cole Kraft; great-grandchildren, Sienna, Arianna and Andrew Kraft.

He was preceded in death by his son Ralph and a stillborn child Ross. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Todd Portinga, AiM officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. The organist will be Neal Erickson with soloist Marcy Kraft. Memorials are suggested to St. Olaf Lutheran Church Building Fund or the donor’s choice.

Casket Bearers will be Robert Kraft, Richard Kraft, Roy Kraft, Randall Kraft, Ronald Kraft and Russell Kraft.

Loren Monson died on July 9, 2009 after a brief battle with Leukemia at Austin Medical Center.

Loren Robert Monson was born Sept. 27, 1931 near Taopi, Minn. to Carl and Elva (Erickson) Monson. He married Louise Katherine (Hueman) on June 16, 1956 at Sacred Heart Church in Adams. Loren was a Paratrooper and Sergeant of the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. Loren was employed at IBM in Rochester, Minn. for 30 years, from 1961 to 1991, as a technician supervising the plastic injection molding department. Loren always enjoyed the outdoors and animals. He trained black and chocolate lab hunting dogs. We don’t know where he went wrong with training their loyal house dog, Toby. He loved to fish and hunt waterfowl and trap furbearers.

He was especially helpful to many farmer friends, removing their nuisance beaver and pocket gophers. Some of his favorite past times were driving around the country side with his loyal companion Toby, observing wildlife and the local farmland. He also enjoyed watching old western movies and woodcarving wildlife and decoys.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Louise; daughters, Sheryl and (Pete) Schaefer, New Ulm, Minn., Rhonda and (Mike) Lunning, LeRoy, Minn.; sons, Randy, Dixon, Calif., Ray (Sharon), Adams, Minn.; grandchildren, Colleen Dady, Plymouth, Minn., Benjamin and (Natalie) Schaefer, New Ulm, Lucas (Valerie) Schaefer, New Ulm, Melissa (Andrew) Dunbar, Germany, KD Monson, Fairfield, Calif., Michael Monson, Dixon, Calif., Brian and Eric Monson, Adams, Mitch Lunning, Sioux Falls, S.D., Sara Lunning, LeRoy.; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Sevontae Dady, Plymouth, Minn., Kacie, Alyssa, Nicholas and Kody Dunbar, Germany; siblings, Ray Monson, LeRoy, Shirley (Leslie) Tapp, Dexter, Minn., Alan and (Nadine) Monson, Belvidere, Ill. and his his beloved pet Toby Jo.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Elva Monson, and brothers, Cecil and David Monson.

A funeral mass will be held Monday July 13, 2009 at St Patricks Catholic Church in LeRoy with Father Steve Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Tommy J. Tapager

1932-2009

Tommy J. Tapager, 76, of Austin, passed away at his home on July 8, 2009. Tommy was born Dec. 10, 1932 to Geraldine (Klein) and Roy Tapager in Mason City, Iowa. Tommy served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to1955 stationed in Germany. In Dec. of 1952, he married Eileen Stahl and they later divorced.

He married Gail Igou-Hoffman. He was active in the American Legion, Post 91 serving as post commander and adjutant. He was a member of the American Legion Funeral Escort. He delivered Meals on Wheels to shut-ins and was an avid golfer and bowler.

Tommy is survived by his children, Pam Hall, Austin, Larry (Kim) Tapager, Ellsworth, Wis. and John Tapager, Austin; grandchildren, Ryanne Underhill, Minneapolis, Minn., Whitney Underhill, Austin; sister, Barbara Weinmann, Austin; nieces and nephews; aunts, Mary (Richard) Mott and Joanne McChesney both of Clear Lake, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by infant twin sons, his parents and his wife, Gail.

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 13, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, with Father John Traufler officiating. Erin Schumacher will be the soloist and Shirley Cahill will be the organist.Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service on Monday. Austin Post #91 American Legion in charge of military rites. Memorials are preferred. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

James H. Steward

1926-2009

James H. Steward, 83, of Faribault, died on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at his home following a sudden illness.

James H., the son of Charles and Gladys (Prehn) Steward was born on July 7, 1926 in Austin. He graduated from Austin High School and served in the U.S. Navy.

He married Marlys Mogen on July 2, 1950 in Hayfield. He farmed on the family farm, worked at the creamery and owned the Gambles Hardware Store all in Brownsdale before moving to Faribault. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Nutting Truck and Caster Company, Montgomery Wards, Schreyer Motors and Matejcek Implement Co. all of Faribault. During his later working years and retirement he operated Jim’s Sharp All.

He is survived by his wife, Marlys; two children, Gary (Judy) Steward and Sara (Patrick) Morris all of Faribault; five grandchildren, Angie (Mike) Larson, Chris Schroeder, Geoff (Sarah) Steward, Rebecca (Josh) Gordon and Luke Morris; two step-grandchildren, Chad Casper and Becky Casper; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille Shirley, Traverse City, Mich.; sister-in-law, Deloris Steward; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Clay M. Steward in 1988; one brother, Maurice Steward and one brother-in-law, Leo Shirley.

Services will be at the Peace United Methodist Church, Morristown, on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Elden Eklund, officiating. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Brownsdale. Visitation will be held in the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Friday, July 10, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. and also in the church for one hour prior to the services on Saturday. Walter John Fred Carstenbrock

1922-2009

Walter John Fred Carstenbrock, 86 of Austin, died on July 7, 2009 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.

Walt was born Aug. 16, 1922 in St. Louis Park, Minn. to Fred and Margaret (Parmeter) Carstenbrock. A 1941 graduate of St. Louis Park High School, Walter served three and a half years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, Walt earned a BA degree from Augsburg College in 1949 and a Master's degree from the University of Minnesota in 1951. He married Marvel Croft in 1948 and entered a joy filled marriage of 61 years. In 1951 Walt began a career with the YMCA in Minneapolis.

In 1964 he was appointed Executive Director of the Austin YMCA. Walter oversaw the construction, establishment and growth of Austin's new YMCA. He served as Executive Director for 15 years. Walt was an active contributor to the community. Over the years he held numerous offices in the Austin United Way, Austin Community Service Advisory Committee, Austin Rotary Club and the local chapter of the AARP. A long time member of Grace Baptist Church he served on numerous church boards. Walter was a wonderful, kind and generous man who will be deeply missed by many.

Walter is survived by his wife, Marvel Carstenbrock, Austin; sons, Ronald (Mary) Carstenbrock, Nipomo, Calif., Jay (Barbara) Carstenbrock, Glen Ellyn, Ill.; daughter, Beth (Charles) Peters, Austin; grandchildren, Molly Carstenbrock, Wheaton, Ill., Megan Carstenbrock, Glen Ellyn, Ill., Emily Carstenbrock, Glen Ellyn, Adrienne (A. J.) Dombeck, Bemidji, Minn., Stephanie Peters, Wheaton, Ill. and Justin Peters, Austin.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Gordon D. Larson officiating. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Friends may greet the family for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. The family prefers memorials to the Austin YMCA, 704 1st Drive NW or to Grace Baptist Church, 100 4th Avenue SE. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald Walter Macal

1939-2009

Ronald Walter Macal, 69, of Austin, died peacefully and suddenly on July 7, 2009 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

He was born Oct. 28, 1939 to Walter and Mary (Rayman) Macal in Austin. He graduated from Rose Creek High School in 1957. On June 10, 1961, he married Jan Fennell in Austin. Ron was employed by Corporate Graphics until his retirement in 2003. An active member of First Congregational Church, UCC in Austin, he loved his family. He was an avid sports fan, especially high school and college games. Fishing was his greatest passion, and he relished every minute spent up north in Nisswa, where he and Jan kept their trailer. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Jan, Austin; children, Robyn (Kevin) Iversen, Byron, Scott Macal, Austin, Heather (Tracy) Schmit, Austin; sisters, Patricia Berg, Austin, Debra (Robert) Kos, Prior Lake; brother, Gary (Debora) Macal, Ellendale; five grandchildren, Jacob, Amber, Hannah, Nick and Samantha; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Walter Macal and brother-in-law, Herbert Berg.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 10, 2009 at First Congregational Church, UCC in Austin with the Reverend Lev Reynolds officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at church. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Worlein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Harold "Brandy" J. Brandsoy

1922-2009

Harold Brandsoy, 87, died on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at St. John’s Lutheran Home.

He was born on February 22, 1922, in Blue Earth, Minnesota, the son of John and Anna (Midtbo) Brandsoy. He graduated from Frost High School and then attended a trade school in Kansas City. After trade school, he went to work for Hayes Manufacturing in Grand Rapids, Mich., where they made parts for wings of airplanes. In 1944 he came back to Minnesota, and during the war Brandy drove Army trucks transporting POW’s to a canning factory outside of Wells, and also helped his father farm. He met Eleanor Siglowski at a dance and on January 19, 1945; they were married at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church in Wells.

Following their marriage Brandy and Eleanor lived and farmed on the Brandsoy Farm in Brush Creek Township. They moved to Albert Lea in 1952, where Brandy had worked at Sinclair Gas Station, Northside Creamery and Montgomery Wards. Harold started farming east of Albert Lea in 1955 and also worked at Wilson & Co before retiring. After Eleanor’s death, Brandy had lived for a time in Florida, and then moved back to Albert Lea.

He was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church, the Elks, Eagles and Moose Clubs. Brandy worked hard to provide for his family. He enjoyed spending time with his buddies fishing “Up North”, family get- togethers - including card games (huckley-buck & poker), playing croquet in the backyard and attending auctions. He loved to travel especially to visit family and friends. His most memorable trips were visiting his relatives in Norway and New Zealand.

The Funeral Service for Harold “Brandy” J. Brandsoy, of Albert Lea, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at St. Theodore Catholic Church, Albert Lea. Father James Berning and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be in St. Theodore Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church.

1926-2000

Dorothy Gwendolyn Sullivan, age 74, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, December 25, 2000.

Services will be Friday at the First baptist Church, and burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, south of Austin.
