Mrs. Walter (Hattie) Bergmann, 73, died Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital,
Rochester, Minnesota.
She resided at 407 13th St. NE, and is survived by a sister, Mrs. Richard
(Clara) Taylor, Austin; two nieces, Mrs. Preston (Phyllis) Elliston, Miles
City Montana, Mrs. Albert (Ruth) Grouh (sp?), Conowingo, Md.
Private funeral services were held this afternoon at the Jordan Mortuary
Chapel, Rev. T. Williams officiating. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Hazel C. Cochran, 89, died Friday morning, March 3, 2000 at St. Mark's
Lutheran Home formerly resided at Corning.
· Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2000 at the Red Oak Grove Lutheran
Church with the Rev. Myrwood Vagne officiating.
· Interment: Red Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery
· Visitation: Friends may call at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 4 to
8 p.m. on Monday and at the church for one hour before the service on
Tuesday.

Ruth Joan Converse, 65, of Brownsdale, died Sunday evening, March 5, 2000,
at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law: Debra (Kenneth) Cory
of Arlington, Neb.; Teresa (Larry) Holmgren of Brownsdale; Lori (Curt)
Farlinger of Sheridan, Wyo.; two sons and daughters-in-law: Mark (Priscilla)
Converse of Brownsdale and Larry (Joan) Converse of Spring Valley; eight
grandchildren, and a sister, Gail Hummel of Austin.
· Services: A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Thursday,
March 9, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson
officiating.
· Interment: Calvary Cemetery
· Visitation: There will be a 6 p.m. wake service on Wednesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4-8 p.m. and also from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday.

Anne (nee Goskesen) Cook, 48 1951-2000
Anne Harriett Cook, age 48, died Friday, March 17, 2000 at the Good
Samaritan Center in Albert Lea.
Anne was born Oct. 19, 1951 at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin to Quentin
Morland and Bernice Elaine (Baumgartner) Goskesen. She enjoyed doing arts
and crafts. She especially enjoyed being with her family.
Anne is survived by four sons: Robert Cook and his wife Kristi of
Owatonna and their children Tameara and Cameron; Aaron Cook and his wife
Heather of Austin and their children Heidi, Eric and Michael; Wade Cook and
his wife Alicia of Elkton and their children Bridget, Jamison and Patrick;
and Derrick Cook and Hope of Albert Lea; parents, Quentin and Bernice
Goskesen of Austin; sisters, Karen Bell of Albert Lea and Nada Kilgore and
her husband Daryl of Columbia, Mo.; brothers Lyle Goskesena and his wife
LeAnn of Hartland, Minn. and Dayle Goskesen and his wife Renae of Austin;
special friend, Al Dawley of Owatonna; several nieces and nephews and a
special niece and God daughter Elaine Erickson.
Anne was preceded in death by her grandparents.
· Service: A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 21 at the Crane Chapel with Pastor Randy Petersen officiating.
· Interment: Grandview Cemetery

Center in Albert Lea.
She is aurvived by sons and daughters-in-law Darrell and Linda Day, Austin,
James and Marilyn Day, Brownsdale, Minn., Farrell and Dawnya Day, Waltham;
daughters and sons-in-law Carrell and Edgar Bathke, Wells, Minn., LaVonne
and David Godwin, Brownsdale, Minn., 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren;
sisters and brothers-in-law Bernice and James Strouf, Austin, Beatrice
Hartson, Austin, Betty and Donald Voigt, Austin.
· Service: 10:30 a.m. at Crane Community Chapel with the Rev. Randy Peterson officiating.
· Interment: Grandview Cemetery in Austin.
· Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday March 24 at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and on Saturday at Crane Community Chapel for one hour before the service.

Laurel Day, 83
Laurel Day, 83, of Waltham, died Monday, March 20, at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea.
He was born March 1, 1917 in Brownsdale to Arthur and Alta (Danley) Day. He received his education up to the 8th grade. He married Marie Gehloff on July 5, 1944 in Osage, Iowa. They made their home in Brownsdale. The later became the parents of six children Darrell, Carrell, James, Farrell, Dawn, and LaVonne.
Laurel worked for 24 1/2 years. His hobbies include gardening, raising chickens and rabbits for which he won many ribbons at the county fair. He loved Buick cars and boxing events of which he collected large scrapbooks of boxing clippings. The clippings dated back to the late 1890's to the 1900's when they fought with their bare fists. Laurel also had a large collection of the first motion pictures, such as Mickey Mouse, Sinbad the Sailor, and Chimp on the Farm. Laurel was a great family man. Among his many joys, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were at the top of his list. They were his pride and joy. He was a kind, loving and generous father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Survived by sons and daughters-in-law Darrell and Linda Day, Austin, James and Marilyn Day, Brownsdale, Minn., Farrell and Dawnya Day, Waltham; daughters and sons-in-law Carrell and Edgar Bathke, Wells, Minn., LaVonne and David Godwin, Brownsdale, Minn., 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law Bernice and James Strouf, Austin, Beatrice Hartson, Austin, Betty and Donald Voigt, Austin.

Helen Durhamc1908-2000
Helen M. Durhman, 92, Grand Meadow, a former Farmers Produce bookkeeper
and head cook at the Grand Meadow School for 17 years before her retirement
in 1969, died Tuesday March 28, 2000 at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center
where she had resided since May of 1997.
She is survived by her children, Naomi Goodsell, Grand Meadow, Darwyn
Durhman, Rochester and Bonnie Mickelson, Rochester; eight grandchildren;
12 great grand-children and a sister Lillian (Mrs. Lyall) Cooper, Plymouth,
Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, a brother and two
sons-in-law.
· Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2000, at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church with the Rev. Wayne Vogt officiating.
· Interment: Grand Meadow Cemetery
· Visitation: Friends may call Friday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hindt-Hitchins Funeral Home in Grand Meadow and one hour prior at the church on Saturday.

John Egland c1915-2000
John Egland, age 84, of Nicolville, died March 2, 2000 at Adams Health
care Center.
Surviving are his wife, Lois; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary
and Lloyd Flaskerud of Scarville, Iowa; Patricia "Patti" and Richard Radke
of Albert Lea; Cassandra "Sandy" and Steven Ness of Albert Lea; five
grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law,
Milford and Evelyn Egland of Albert Lea. He was preceded in death by his
first wife, Esther; his parents and a brother, Roy.
· Service: Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2000 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Petersen officiating.
· Interment: A private interment at Graceland Cemetery in Albert Lea.

Lois Lilla (nee Meister)(Stalhiem) Erickson c1931-2000
Lois Lilla Erickson, 68, died at the Amery Regional Medical Center in
Amery, Wis. on Tuesday, March 21, 2000.
She was the daughter of Ernest and Lilla (Troge) Meister. She was
baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage, Iowa, and graduated from high
school in Adams, Minn. In 1950, she was united in marriage to Donald
Stalhiem and to this union four children were born. She was later united
in marriage to Reuben Erickson in 1975.
In 1955 she moved with her family to the Clear Lake area. She remained in the Clear Lake/Amery area for the rest of her life. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Amery and active in their 60-plus club. She loved watching sports and soap operas and going to parades and the flea market. When her health began to fail she became a resident of Willow Ridge in Amery. The family has been particularly appreciative of the friendship and help of Wilma Richter over these past several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Reuben, four brothers, and a sister.
She is survived by: sons Danny Lynn Stalhiem of Clear Lake, Wis., Larry Stalhiem of Dairy, N.H. and Neal Stalhiem of Anderson, Ind.; daughter Lynette Stalhiem of Amery; brothers Melvin Meister of Bellavista, Ark., Roy Meister of Minneapolis, Luther Meister of Austin, Dean Meister of Mankato, and Vern Meister of Rochester; sisters Mae Monsen of LeRoy and Daisy Larson of Austin. She also leaves three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were held on Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Amery with Rev. Paul Wiegert officiating. Linda Wiegert and Muriel Pankonien provided music. Casket bearers were Vern Redlich, Russ Viebrock, Roger Knutson and Wilfred Kuhl. Interment was in Amery Cemetery.

Monday morning at her home.
She is survived by her husband Merrill Fitzgerald, Austin; sons and
daughter-in-law Paul Fitzgerald, Mesa, Ariz., David and Karen Fitzgerald,
Mounds View; three grandchildren Chris, Corey, and Kim all of Mesa, Ariz.,
sister Evelyn Yutz, Fort Pierce, Fla., brother and sisters-in-law Charles
Albert and Elaine Piller, Silver Springs, Fla., Louise Laing, Carver, Maine,
brother-in-law and sister-in-law Arden and Iris Fitzgerald, Peterson, Minn.,
many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

She was born April 24, 1926 in Quincy, Mass. to Aaron and Esther (Richmond) Piller.
She was a member of Fellowship United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Rita Rosella was born July 30, 1932 in Rose Creek, Minn. to Peter and
Mary (Vogler) Wendel. In her early years, Rita enjoyed farming, horse back
riding, bowling and spending time with her family. She was one of the
founding members of the Line Riders Saddle Club and was involved with Camp
Courage. Rita was a bus driver for the Southland School district for 17
years. She was united in marriage to Waldo Flo at St. Peter's Catholic
Church in Rose Creek, Minn. Waldo preceded her in death on April 10, 1994
at the age of 67.
She is survived by a sister Clara Grever, Roundup, Mont.; brother and
sister-in-law Bernard and Juletta Wendel, Chester, Iowa, a sister Clara
Grever, Roundup, Montana special friend Leland Aanonson, Rose Creek, nieces,
nephew and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother-in-law.
· Service: A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday,
March 25, 2000 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rose Creek with Father
Ruben Spinler officiating.
· Interment: St. Peter's Cemetery

Donna Gerber 1918-2000
Donna M. Gerber, 81, a resident of the Cedars of Austin, died Wednesday morning, March 15, 2000 at the Austin Medical Center.
Donna was born March 30, 1918 in Millican, Ore. to Earl and Edna (Mitchell) Russell. On Nov. 26, 1946 she was united in marriage to Ralph P. Gerber at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. she was a greatful for her many friends. donna enjoyed sewing, handiwork, watching baseball, family gatherings and visiting. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by six daughters and sons-in-law Patricia M. Halverson, Loves Park, Ill., Pamela and Terry Fogal, Mankato, Beverly and Mark Clennon, Springfield, Minn., Barbara and Randy Kvam, Austin, Paulette and Bob Cummings, Austin, Betty and Mark Erickson, Billings, Mont.; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law Margaret and Will Cowitz, Kirkland, Wash., Marian Wilkenson, Omaha, Neb., brother Alfred Russell, Everett, Wash.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph P. Gerber on Dec. 14, 1997, a brother and a grandson.
The honorary casket bearer will be Donna's sister Marian Wilkenson and the casket bearers will be Donna's daughters Patricia M Halverson, Pamela Fogal, Beverly Clennon, Barbara Kvam, Paulette Cummings and Betty Erickson.

Kenneth P. Gilgenbach 1940-2000

Kenneth Paul Gilgenbach, 60 of Rt. 2, Adams, died after a fatal accident Friday afternoon, March 10, 2000, in Lodi Township.

Geraldine (Brink) Hagan 1918-2000
Geraldine "Gerry" Hagan, 82, of Austin, died Thursday evening, March 23,
2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Geraldine was born Feb. 19, 1918 in Preston, Minn. to Lawrence and
Isabelle (Brenno) Brink. She attended country school in Fillmore County.
Her family moved to Austin in 1929. She was united in marriage to Ray Hagan
and they were married for more than 60 years before Ray's death on Aug. 23,
1998. Geraldine and Ray farmed for more than 50 years. They enjoyed raising
livestock, gardening, yardwork and bird watching. Geraldine and Ray were
members of Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia (Roy) Fulsaas of Ridgeway, Iowa; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister Lorraine.
The honorary casket bearers will be Rachel Fulsaas, Matthew Wagner and Luke Wagner. The casket bearers will be Randy Fulsaas, Ryan Fulsaas, Cory Wagner, Larry Quast, Cleon Brenno and Richard Gunnarson.

Herbert Heimer1928-2009
Herbert Heimer, 80, Adams died Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Mayo Clinic in
Rochester.
He was born August 26, 1928 near Johnsburg, Minnesota, to Joseph and
Julia (Krebsbach) Heimer. Herb attended school at St. John's Catholic
School in Johnsburg. During the Korean War, he served as a corporal in the
U.S. Army.
On Aug. 26, 1958, Herb married Mary Ann King at the Sacred Heart Catholic
Church. Herb worked at the Milwaukee Railroad for 34 years, first in Austin
and later in St. Paul and Mason City. In his spare time, Herb enjoyed
watching the Twins and the Cubs, gardening, tinkering in the garage, blowing
snow, driving tractors, trains, scratch tickets and playing cards. He
especially enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandkids
activities.
Herb is survived by his spouse, Mary Ann Heimer, Adams, Minn.; children,
Lynnette (Dan) Barry, Zumbrota, Minn., Lisa (Jerry) Wiste, Adams, Minn.,

p.m. Prayer Service. Visitation will also be for one hour before the service

Roger Darrel Hallum1939-2009
Roger Darrel Hallum of Vancouver, Washington, died on July 1, 2009 from complications of leukemia at Sunnyside-Kaiser Hospital in Portland, Oregon.
Roger was born in Austin, Minnesota, on February 8, 1939 to Elmer Alfred
and Anna (Cole) Hallum. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran
Church in Austin. Roger graduated from Austin High School in 1957 and from
Mankato State University in 1961 with a degree in education. He taught
speech and drama at St. Ansgar High School and later in LeMars High School
in Iowa. He was married to Sharon Sathrum in St. Ansgar, in 1964. They had
two children, Randall and Kourtney. In 1975 the family moved to McMinnville,
Oregon, where roger was employed by World Book Encyclopedia Incorporated.
In 1983, after a divorce, Roger moved to Portland, where he was employed by the National Federation of Independent Business and later, sold real estate in Portland and Vancouver. Roger enjoyed golfing, playing bridge and skiing with the Bergfreunde Ski Club in Portland. He traveled to many bridge tournament competitions throughout the U.S. The journey of life took Roger out of teaching , which he later regretted. In his retirement he found a way back to his love of teaching by becoming a beloved Bridge instructor in the Vancouver and Beaverton communities.
Roger is survived by his son, Randall (Jenny) Hallum, Tucson, Ariz.; daughter, Kourtney (Kevin) Ferrua of McMinnville, Ore.; grandchildren, Eva Marie and Dylan Curtis Ferrua; sisters, Grace Ferguson, Donna (Willard) Blaser, Austin; Joyce (Jack) Shepherd, Houston, Texas; sister-in-law, Audrey Hallum, Austin; dear friend, Norma Demarais, Beaverton, Ore.; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Earl Hallum.
A memorial service was held at Vancouver on July 8, 2009. Memorials may be sent to the McMinnville Education Foundation, the Juliette's House (children's shelter), both in McMinnville, or to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church building fund in Austin.

Donald D. Austinson, 86, of Trenton, Missouri, formerly of Clarks Grove, died on July 15, 2009 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton, Missouri.
Funeral services for will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2009 at Hollandale Reformed Church. Interment will be at

Donald D. (Slug) Austinson was born on Jan. 30, 1923 to Oliver and Julia (Enerson) Austinson in Lyle, Minn. He grew up in the Lyle area and graduated from Lyle High School. Donald served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. After service, Donald returned to the Clarks Grove area and worked as a machine operator and shop superintendent for Universal Milking Machines, Co.
Donald married Pearl Alders on Sept. 23, 1947 at Trondjem Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Hollandale Reformed Church and the American Legion. Donald also served on the Clarks Grove Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. Pearl died in 1995. On June 28, 1997 Donald was united in marriage to Betty L. Thrap/Poole in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in Trenton, Mo. and Donna, Texas in the winter. While living in Trenton, Donald was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; children, Judean “Butch” (Jane) Austinson, Anaheim, Calif., Donald (Karen) Austinson, Jr., Clarks Grove, Minn. and Jackie (Al) Morris, New Hampshire; grandchildren, Jeff (Karli) Austinson and Julia Beth Austinson, Kelly (Frank) O’Neill, Stacie (Sean) Moore, A.J. Joseph Hahn1951-2000
Joseph D. Hahn 48, Austin, died March 16, 2000 at Burr Oak Manor.
Joseph was born on March 30, 1951, to Gordon and Elizabeth (Diddams)
Hahn in Austin, Minn. Joe graduated from Austin High School and attended Austin State Junior College. He had served in the Army National Guard for a short period of time and had worked for several years at St. Olaf Hospital helping in the Emergency room and as an orderly. Joseph was diagnosed with Myotonic Dystrophy 37 years ago and had volunteered a great deal of his time and energy to the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Labor Day Telethon for over 25 years. Joe also volunteered his time to the Mower Council for the Handicapped. He was the Treasurer for the council for the past two years and had helped to organize Christmas Dinners for several years for the Council. He was a life member of Fidelity Lodge No. 39 AF & AM and also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Unity Chapter No. 29. He was a past Master Councilor of Osman Chapter, Order of DeMolay. Joe like to be involved with people and enjoyed visiting with friends. Joe had been a member of Civil Air Patrol and the Gopher CB Club. He had volunteered with the American Red Cross as a First Aid Instructor, CPR Instructor, and had helped at the Bloodmobile. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 91 and the Auxiliary Police for several years. Joe enjoyed all sports and was a Twins fan. He was very close to this family and friends and will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his mother Elizabeth (Betty) Hahn, Austin; brother Edger Hahn, Austin; aunts, uncles and cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Gordon (Don) Hahn in 1979.

Paul Giovannetti1938-2000
Paul Giovannetti, 61, 24511 546th St., Austin, died Tuesday, Feb. 29,
2000 at the Englewood Community Hospital in Englewood, Florida.
Paul was born July 14, 1938 in Austin, Minn. to Alfredo and Mildred
(Robinson) Giovannetti. He graduated from Pacelli High School. After high
school Paul enlisted in the National Guard. On Sept. 5, 1958 he was united
in marriage to Nancy Kay Kelley at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin
and together they had five children. Paul retired from Austin Utilities
after 33 years and was a member at Queen of Angels Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Giovannetti, Austin; daughters Lynn Giovannetti (Matt Morgan), Minneapolis, Gina (Kim Lundberg), Austin, Jill (Joe Merten), Austin, Toni (Scott Owen), Owatonna; son Rick (Jane Giovannetti), Minnetonka; six grandchildren; sister Anne (Charles Hager), Nisswa, Minn.; mother-in-law Ethel Olson, Austin.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Alfredo "Fritz" and Mildred Giovannetti.

Gladys (Benson) Hanson 1917-2000
Gladys Hanson, 83, of Route 1, Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died
Wednesday, March 2, 2000 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester.
She was born April 27, 1917 in Udolpho Township, Mower County, Minnesota,
the daughter of Martin and Georgina (Christianson) Benson. Gladys graduated
from Austin High School and the Austin Teacher Training Department. She
taught in rural schools in Steele and Mower counties for four years and
married Rozwell Hanson June 18, 1938 at the Lutheran parsonage in Blooming
Prairie. She was an active member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, serving
on circuit and district boards of the Lutheran Church for 25 years, including
president of the Austin Circuit WMF and also president of the Southeastern
Minnesota ALCW. For a number of years she served as historian for her church.
Gladys was active in County Extension groups and the Sons of Norway. She was
named Mower County's Outstanding Senior Citizen in 1995 at the Mower County
Fair. She enjoyed sharing her interest in photography with friends.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Burnell and Coleen Hanson, Blooming Prairie; two daughters and sons-in-law Lois and Robert Breaker, Racine, Wis.; Nancy and Arnold Ulland, Round Rock, Texas; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Carmen Benson; nieces, nephews, cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rozwell Hanson in 1987.
· Service: 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2000 at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church with the Rev. Myrwood Bagne officiating.

Orval Hopfe, 84
Orval V. Hopfe, 84, Austin, died Wednesday morning at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.
He was born on Jan. 11, 1916 in Lansing Township, Minn. to Albert and Johanna (Eifert) Hopfe and graduated from Austin High School. Orval enjoyed 65 happy years of marriage to Arlene Ulrick. During their marriage they had one daughter Sharon. He had worked at Hormel Foods for a short period of time before he was drafted in the United States Army during World War II. After the war he joined his father Albert in the auctioneering business and became well known as an auctioneer and a businessman. He was a proud member of the Elks in Austin. He was involved in many activities and held various positions within the organization. Orval was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Austin. He also was a member of the American Legion Post No. 91 of Austin. Orval dedicated his time and energy to any activity he was involved in, but especially he dedicated his love and time to his wife, daughter and his family.
He is survived by his wife Arlene Hopfe, Austin; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Thomas Guinta, Chicago, Ill.; three grandsons; eight great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law Maydene McDonald, Austin, Beth and Durwood Meyer, Owatonna; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step mother Mabel Hopfe.
· Service: A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Clasen-Jordan Chapel with the Rev. Patricia M. Toschak officiating. There will be no reviewal. His body was donated for science to the Mayo Foundation Bequest Program in Rochester, Minn.
· Visitation: Friends may call Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the chapel.

Gladys Ihrke 1906-2000
Gladys A. Ihrke, 94, of 1017 Ninth Ave. SE, died Wednesday afternoon,
March 8, 2000 at Burr Oak Manor.
Gladys Augusta was born Jan. 27, 1906 in Elmira Township, Minnesota to
Vaughn and Dora (Schwock) Abbott. She graduated from high school and the
Teachers's Training Department in St. Charles, Minn. On May 3, 1926 she
was united in marriage to Frank T. Ihrke at St. Charles. Gladys was very
active in her church throughout her life. She was a mother and a homemaker.
Survivors include daughter and sons-in-law Carole and Blaine Nobbs,
Monticello, Otto Oldenburg, Austin; sons and daughters-in-law Dale and
Petra Ihrke, Austin, Keith and Debbie Ihrke, Blaine; ten grandchildren;
13 great grandchildren; sister Louis Johnson, Austin.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank on December 21, 1979,
her daughter, Phyllis Oldenburg in Feb. 1999.

Juletta Evelyn Lewison-Iverson 1911-2000
Juletta Evelyn Lewison-Iverson, 89, of Adams and formerly of LeRoy,
died Thursday evening, March 16, 2000, at her home in Adams.
She was born January 26, 1911, in Adams Township, Mower County, to Lewis
and Betsy (Gordon) Lewison. She graduated Adams High School and married
Clifford "Red" Iverson October 1, 1932 at Little Cedar Lutheran Church, Adams.
The couple farmed in Lodi Township, Mower County, from 1942-1976, when
they retired and moved to LeRoy, where they lived until 1996, when they
moved to an apartment in Adams.
She was a member of the LeRoy Lutheran Church, where she was active in
circle work and was also a member of the Lodi Women's Club. Her hobbies
were sewing and crocheting and she enjoyed her family.
Survivors include one son, Kermit and wife, Joan, Iverson, Albert Lea; two daughters, Barbara (Donald) Jackel, Austin, and Jean Winjum, Wellsburg, Iowa; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; plus nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifford, in August 1996, one grandson, three brothers, four sisters, a son-in-law and a daughter-in-law.
· Service: 1 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2000, at LeRoy Lutheran Church, LeRoy, with the Rev. Tom Kolden officiating.

Evelyn (nee Eggestein) Johnson 1918-2000

Evelyn "Mina" Johnson, 82, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 22,
2000 at her home.
She was born March 4, 1918, in Petersburg, Jackson County, Minn. to Alfred
and Bessie (Peterson) Eggestein. Mina attended schools in southern Minnesota
and married LeRoy Johnson March 7, 1934 in Albert Lea. They lived in Austin
and Rose Creek before moving to a farm near Mona, Iowa where they have lived
since June 1946.
Mina was a member of Mona Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA,
quilting and many other church activities. She was a Bible study leader at
the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, Iowa. She was active in the Flying
Fingers Craft Club. Her interests were quilting, gardening, and she
especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband LeRoy; seven daughters Lillian (Almo
Jahr) and Marlys (Joe Follmuth, St. Ansgar; Darlene Maine, Fresno, Calif.,
Grace (Herman Peterson), Inver Grove Heights; Linda Garvey, Bolan, Iowa,
Rebecca (Gary Frederickson) Byron, Monica (Myron Hemann) of Mc Intire,
Iowa; four sons, Robert and wife Patty, Winona, Wayne and wife Neilene,
St. Ansgar, Iowa, Lynn and wife Teri , Hibbing, David Byron; forty-six
grandchildren; fifty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great
granddaughter, and a very large extended family.

Phyllis Muriel (Cook) Learn1926-2009
LYLE, MINNESOTA - Phyllis Muriel Learn, age 82, of Lyle, Minn., passed
away on Friday, July 17, 2009, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home,
Stacyville, Mitchell county, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, at the
Clasen-Jordan Chapel, Austin, Minn., with the Rev. Kristi Koppel
officiating. Interment will be in London Cemetery in London, Minn.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary
and for one hour before the service at the chapel on Tuesday.
She was born Sept. 21, 1926, near London, Minn., the daughter of Harry
and Grace Cook. She married Donald Learn on Sept. 22, 1944. To this union
six children were born. Phyllis served on the London Cemetery Board for 24
years.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Grace and Robert Wagner,
Stacyville, and Ruth Smalley, Kasson, Minn.; sons and daughters-in-law,
Wayne and Jean Learn, Red Wing, Minn., Frank and Faye Learn, Hayward, Minn.,
Leo and Julie Learn, Lyle, Minn., Cecil and Elaine Learn, Albert Lea,
Minn.; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, cousins,
nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald; parents, two brothers,
one grandson.
Casket Bearers will be Richard Wagner, Brian Wagner, Phillip Wagner,

Gertrude (nee Shoemaker) Johnson1905-2000
Gertrude M. Johnson, 95, Austin, died at Burr Oak Manor Wednesday, March
29, 2000.
She was born Jan. 23, 1905 to Elvin and Maggie (Baldwin) Shoemaker in
St. Cloud, Minn. and lived in Kimball until March, 1919 when she moved with
her parents to Rose Creek. Gertrude married Frank Johnson Nov. 16, 1924. She
was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin in 1925.
They had one son, Leonard. She did a lot of babysitting which was a great
joy to her. After Frank passed away in November 1964, Gertrude moved to
Austin where she made many friends by helping with bus trips when she was
employed by Austin Coaches.
She is survived by daughter-in-law Dorothy Johnson, Austin; sister Helen
Florek, Austin; granddaughter Kaylene; grandson Steven and his wife, Barbara;
two great grandsons Trendon and Bradon; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; son, Leonard; and her
parents.
· Service: 1 p.m. Saturday, April 1 with the Rev. Harold Usgaard
officiating.
· Interment: Oakwood Cemetery
· Visitation: Friends may call at Worlein funeral Home Friday from

Nellie Elizabeth (Pike) Johnson, 901909-2000
Nellie Elizabeth Johnson, 90, of Austin, died Thursday, March 23, 2000
at Austin Medical Center.
Nellie was born Nov. 8, 1909 in Howard County Iowa, the daughter of
Wilfred H. and Nellie (Carter) Pike. She attended school in Brownsdale
and graduated from Austin High School. She attended teachers training and
taught at several schools in Mower County. She was married to Lyle Ness
and they later divorced. During World War II they moved to California where
she worked for the Atomic Energy Commission on the Los Alamos Project. She
later married Clarence Johnson and they spent winters in Florida and the
summers in Brownsdale. She loved history and traveling.
She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law Roger K. Ness of Blaine,
Minn., and Darrel (Carol) Ness of Minneapolis; two granddaughters; two
great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Edith Pike of Brownsdale, one niece
and her first husband, Lyle Ness of Lake Placid, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence Johnson
in 1999, two sisters and one brother.
· Service: A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 1, at the
Greenwood Cemetery in Brownsdale with the Rev. George Toschak officiating.

Austin, Minnesota area, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000 at her home in
Shelbyville, Kentucky.
Sondra was born March 27, 1940 in Algona, Iowa to Gregory Lawrence
and Helen (Paulsen) Cooper. She was united in marriage to Harlan Joseph.

Leslie William Kraft 1920-2000
Leslie William Kraft, 79, Dexter, Mower County, Minnesota, died Wednesday,
March 22, 2000 at Adams Healthcare Center.
He was born March 27, 1920, in Dexter Township, Mower county, Minn. to
William and Ethel (Wigham) Kraft. He married Audrey L. Westerberg on Dec. 30,
1958 in Sioux Falls, S.D. They lived on the family farm all their married
life. A member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Leslie also belonged to the
American Legion.
He is survived by wife Audrey; children Randall Kraft, Alaska, Kendall
Kraft, Austin, Kevin Kraft, Blooming Prairie, Carol and Lee Pannkuk,
Rochester; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers and
sister-in-law Wilbur Kraft, Austin; Lawrence and Verna Kraft, Stewartville;

Otto Frederick Kreid 1905-2000
Otto Frederick Kreid, 94, of Grand Meadow, Mower county, Minnesota, died
on Wednesday night, March 29, 2000 at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center
in Grand Meadow.
Otto was born Frederick Carl Kreid on Dec. 7, 1905, in Arcadia, Wis. to
Charles and Mary (Scharlay) Kreid. He graduated from Arcadia High School
and Winona Business College. After graduating from college he move to
Austin and worked for Park Motors as a bookkeeper. In 1939, he formed a
partnership with Bert Godfredson and opened Grand Meadow Implement. When
the implement opened the sold International Harvester and for a time even
sold automobiles. Otto purchased Bert' interest in the early 50's. In later
years he sold Funks seed corn, and sold and serviced Massy Ferguson, and New
Holland farm equipment. Otto retired in 1987.
Otto was one of the original founders of the Grand Meadow Rod and Gun
Club and served as Grand Meadow City Treasurer in the 60's and 70's and
has been a member of Grand Meadow Lutheran Church since 1939.
Otto was united in marriage to Dorothy Christensen on May 11, 1939 at
the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She died in November of 1995.
After his retirement he and Dorothy spent time traveling and spending
time at their cabin in Hager City, Wis. He enjoyed gardening and had a
special fondness for native wild flowers.
He is survived by two sons Dennis of Richland, Wash., Curtis, Anchorage,
Alaska; daughter Faith Rossman, Orange Park, Florida; seven grandchildren;
10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, a son Roger who died in 1997, four brothers and three sisters.
· Service: 11 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2000 at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church with the Rev. Wayne Vogt officiating.
· Interment: Grand Meadow Cemetery

Norma Arlene Lundquist 1921-2000
Norma Arlene Lundquist, age 78, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died
at Austin Medical Center Monday, March 27, 2000.
She was born May 29, 1921 in Mitchell County, Iowa to Henry and Sadie
(Olson) Johnson. She married Harold Lundquist at the Little Brown Church in
the Vale in Nashua, Iowa September 14, 1940. They lived in Austin all their
married life. A member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, she enjoyed golf
and dancing and was a good housekeeper, a good cook and a wonderful grandma.
She is survived by her husband Harold; children Lyman and Jane Lundquist,
Austin, Texas; Larry and Pam Lundquist, Maple Grove; three grandchildren;
two brothers and sisters-in-law Harold and Ramona Johnson, Sun City, Calif.;
Clair Johnson, Denver, Colo.; one sister and brother-in-law Eva and Maurice
Asper, Sun City, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Carroll Johnson.

Lucy Makowski c1927-2000
Lucy Makowski, 72, of Austin, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at the Austin
Medical Center, Austin, Mower county, Minnesota.
She attended school in Pierz, Minn. She married Wendell Makowski on Aug.
15, 1947 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. She was a memeber of
St. Augustin Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sandra and David E. Kranz,
Byron, Minn.; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters-in-law
Shirley Reim, Faribault, Margaret Stangle, St. Louis Park, Minn.; nieces
and nephews.

Mary A. Michels1925-2000
Mary A. Michels, age 74, died Tuesday evening, March 14, 2000 at St.
Mark's Lutheran Home where she was a resident.
Mary Adella was born July 11, 1925 in Mitchell County, Iowa, to Charles
and Irma (Vergate) Arickx. On Nov. 15, 1945 she was united in marriage to
Russell M. Michels in Osage, Iowa. Mary was past president of American
Legion Auxiliary Unit 91 and did specialized sewing projects for various
organizations in Austin. She also worked in the St. Augustine cafeteria.
Mary enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter Elizabeth Ryley, Bandar Seri Begawan,
Brunei; two sons and daughters-in-law Jerry and Susan Michels, Kenosha,
Wis., Robert and Cathy Michels, Menomonie, Wis.; six grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law Evaona and Laurence
Moeykens, Austin, Bertha Lievrouw, Osage, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband Russell M. Michels on Nov. 3,
1989.
