Richard D. Warfield, 75, of Austin died on May 2, 2009 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Richard was born Jan. 8, 1934 in Austin to Stanley and Esther (Mau) Warfield. He graduated from Austin High School in 1952 and served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He attended Iowa State University from 1956 until he graduated in 1960. Richard was an accomplished basketball and baseball player. He played baseball throughout his time in high school, the Air Force, and at Iowa State University. Richard was recruited by the Boston Red Sox, but he chose to pursue a career in sales. Richard married Carol Knowlton on Aug. 30, 1958 at the First United Methodist church in Austin. He was a sales manager for ADT (American District Telegraph Co.). They’ve lived in Minneapolis, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Boston and prior to moving back to Austin, they had spent twelve years in New Jersey until his retirement in 1999. He was a former member of the Austin Country Club and the American Legion, Austin Post #91. Richard loved golfing, fishing, baseball, basketball, and watching stock market activity.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Warfield, Austin; sons, Mark (Lynn) Warfield, Long Valley, N.J., Richard (Barbara) Warfield, Hudson, Ohio; daughter, Michelle (John) Tomasulo, Hudson, Ohio; grandchildren, Katherine, Peter, Christopher, and Emily Warfield, John, Angela, Sarah, Anna and Nicholas Tomasulo; sister, Linda (Charles) Barnes, Crystal River, Fla., nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with the Reverend Levering Reynolds III officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday for one hour before the service. The organist will be Neal Erickson with soloist Claudia Knowlton-Chike.

Casket Bearers will be Mark Warfield, Richard Warfield, Christopher Warfield, Bill Knowlton, David Knowlton and Steven Knowlton.

William Edward Baumann, age 87, of Austin, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

Bill was born March 13, 1922 in Milwaukee, Wis. to Ruben and Elsa (Williams) Baumann.

He grew up in Port Washington, Wis. with his siblings: Sisters, Henrietta and Gladys; brothers, John, Ruben, Tony and Francis. Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force and attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison following his discharge. He met his future wife, Jean Tholl and they were married on Nov. 27, 1947 after graduation. The newlyweds traveled to Austin via train where Bill started his 36 year career with the Hormel Company as a hog buyer, quickly locating to Caledonia, Minn. until 1962. The young family arrived back in Austin in time to start the new school year with seven of the eventually 10 children. Bill worked the night shift most of his years as foreman until his retirement in 1983. He shared his love of hunting, trap shooting, woodworking and card games with his sons; gardening and animals with his girls; and golf with Jean in their retirement years.

There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. L. P. "Cy" Stadler, 87, of Austin, passed away on April 26, 2009 at Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie.

Cy was born Dec. 3, 1921 to Elenore (Rainey) and Peter Stadler in Medford, Minn., the 13th of 14 children. He graduated from Faribault High School in 1940 where he excelled in basketball and football, as well as academics. He attended the University of Idaho, the University of St. Thomas and graduated from Dunwoody Institute. Cy studied engineering at all three. He entered the Army in November 1944 as a 1st Lieutenant. He was a unit commander and training staff officer. Cy taught basic military subjects at an infantry replacement training camp. He served four months in Japan with the 32nd infantry division.

After World War II, Cy worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Austin, starting there in 1948. He started as a lineman and retired as manager in 1985 after 37 years of service. During that time, Cy was a staunch supporter of Queen of Angels and St. Augustine churches and was active in the Rotary Club, serving a year as president. He was a member of the Elks Club for 50 years, Legion Club, and served the Boy Scouts as Austin District chairman. Cy served on the Boy Scout Council board of directors, was a member of the Chamber of Commerce Citizen Advisory Committee, served as school board finance chairman and was vice president of the Pacelli High School Sports Booster's Club.

Cy married Mary Kathryn (Thomas) Smith in January 1954. She preceded him in death in 1984. Cy was an avid sportsman and sports fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed dining out and conversing with his many friends and acquaintances. He will be sorely missed by all.

Survivors include one son, James Peter (Kathie) Stadler, Minneapolis; two daughters, Jill (Don) Milette, Grand Rapids, Lynn (Steve) Dormady, So. Glen's Falls, N.Y.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Durand, Faribault.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2009 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father John Traufler officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire staff at the Blooming Prairie Manor for the wonderful care of our father. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Research.

James “Jim” E. Johnson, 57, of Austin, died May 6, 2009 at his home.

He was born Oct. 30, 1951 to Charles E. Johnson and Madelyn (Smith) Johnson. He attended Austin High School and graduated in 1970. Shortly after graduation, he married Donna Delany in August of 1971. In 1972, Kristy Kay was born. Several years later they divorced.

He worked for Austin Dairy, Austin Bowl, Viracon and Hormel as a salesman. At a young age he enjoyed swimming, riding his and Jerry’s favorite horse “Buck” in the saddle club shows, hanging out with friends and he always looked forward to the family reunions every year. He was a hard worker with a heart of gold. He loved all animals, especially goats and geese.

Survivors include his daughter, Kristy Kay Bidermen and family; son, Jermey Gilbert; one grandson; one granddaughter; Parents, Charles E. Johnson, Madelyn Gilbertson and Nancy Johnson; siblings, Gerald A. Johnson, Cheryl (Michael) Nelson, Linda (Larry) Barclay, Gail (Dan) Nasby, Bobbie Jo (David) Utzka, Renae (Michael) Holzapfel, Wayne Gilbertson, Walter (Carol) Gilbertson, very special uncle, Arnie Johnson, Aunt Vlasta, Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sister, Chris (Gilbertson) Shocker; uncles, Dale and Burnett; aunts, Betty and Norma.

Fay Albert Rockwell died on Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, in Palm Desert Calif., when his motorhome crashed head-on into a group of trees due to brake failure.

Fay was born in Brownsdale, Minn. to Paul H. and Gertrude Merna Dibble Rockwell on Sept. 27, 1922. He was the oldest of four brothers and one sister. He grew up on his parents’ farm southeast of Brownsdale until he joined the U.S. Navy on Dec. 15, 1942. He served 3 1/2 years in World War II and received an honorable discharge as Yeoman 3rd class on April 6, 1946. His duty was mostly in the South Pacific area. After discharge from the Navy, he was employed by Hormel Foods in Austin as a butcher for a year.

Fay attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and graduated from Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. Later he attended and graduated from the Pure Pak Institute and was employed as a milk inspector in Detroit for the State of Michigan, where he worked for 12 years.

In September 1959 Fay met his sweetheart, Della Jessee Boehler, and they were married on March 5, 1960 in Detroit. In 1969, Fay and Della moved to San Diego, where he worked at National Steel Shipyards and later became a real estate salesman for 25 years. In 1978, he and Della opened and operated Century 21 Rockwell Realtors until 1990.

Fay also enjoyed his houseboat on both Lake Erie and San Diego Bay, and for the past 20 years, he and Della traveled continuously in the United States and Canada in their Airstream motorhome. Fay was a longtime member of St. Peters by the Sea Lutheran Church on Point Loma, Calif. and the Elks Club in El Cajon, Calif. Fay was a very loving and attentive husband and stepfather.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Della; stepson, Edward (Diane) Boehler, Ocean Beach Calif.; four brothers, Paul (Wanda) Rockwell, Westerville Ohio, Ross (Lois) Rockwell, Austin, Guy (Marcella) Rockwell and Harry Rockwell, all of Brownsdale,.

He was preceded in death by his only sister, Norrine Rockwell Monsen; brother-in-law, Harold Monsen; and Fay’s parents.

Fay was a true gentleman and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin at 2 p.m. on May 16, 2009. A reception honoring his memory will follow at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in rural Brownsdale with Military Funeral Honors by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216.

Elizabeth H. “Bette” Norgaard, 84, of Nevis, Minnesota, died on Thursday May 7, 2009 at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids, Minnesota.

Elizabeth Hildegaarde Kramer was born on May 2, 1925 in Stacyville, Iowa, the daughter of Lorenz and Francis (Puettman) Kramer. She grew up in Meyer, Iowa. Bette attended grade school through the eighth grade. Following school, she resided in Waterloo, Iowa where she was employed at different places, including the Rath packing plant and waitressing. Bette was united in marriage to Norman Norgaard on April 3, 1945 at Queen of Angels Church in Austin. They were blessed with four children: N. Alan, Peggy, Charles and Dawn.

Bette was a homemaker who enjoyed spending her summer weekends at their lake home at French Lake in Faribault, Minn.; her work within the church; playing cards and dancing. Upon Norman’s retirement in 1982, they moved to Nevis, where she would become actively involved with the Nevis Senior Citizens Center. For years, Bette and Norman would spend their winters in Arizona until Bette’s illness. Both Bette and Norman are members of First English Lutheran Church of Dorset, Minn. Both were former members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Austin and Bethany Lutheran Church in Nevis. Bette was known for her smile and her laughter. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.

Bette is survived by her husband, Norman Norgaard, Nevis; four children, N. Alan Norgaard, Nevis, Peggy Ciampi, Nevis, Charles (Mary) Norgaard, Lake Crystal, Minn., Dawn (Ronald) Anderson, Chetek, Wis.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Elmo (Eleanor) Kramer, Ackley, Iowa, Fred (Verena) Kramer, Stacyville, Iowa, Kenneth (Lorraine) Kramer, Adams, Minn.; sister, Lori (Dick) King, Rose Creek, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Ian Norgaard; son-in-law, Ronald Heimerman; four brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held on Sunday May 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Nevis. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at the First English Lutheran Church in Dorset. The Reverend Chris Davis will be the officiant. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. Casket bearers will be Eric Norgaard, Robin Heimerman, Derek Small, Peter Norgaard, Nick Folk and Ray Wesley.

Interment will be held at the Lakeview Cemetery in Nevis. Arrangements are being held by the Cease Family Funeral Home of Park Rapids and Nevis.

Carol Elaine Kentopp Hunter, age 80, of Austin died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at her home in Austin.

She was born Dec. 15, 1928 in Falls City, Neb. to William and Elizabeth (Krueger) Kentopp. She graduated from the Falls City High School and the Midland Lutheran College. Carol was a school teacher and had worked as a secretary/accountant with Gambles, Inc. She was married to William R. Hunter on May 22, 1949 at Falls City. She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, P.E.O., the St. Olaf Needlepointers, the Austin Country Club, Marathon Bridge, Sewing Club and WASO. Carol had been a member of the Salem Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was active with the Women's Golf Association, Isaak Walton, Elks and Aksarben.

Carol was an admiral in the Nebraska Navy and the owner of the Carol Kentopp Hunter Farm, which was honored as a 100-year-old farm in the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Foundation and received numerous golf awards.

She enjoyed golf, painting, playing bridge, volunteering, flower gardening, reading, traveling, Nebraska football games, attending Elizabeth's concerts and spending time enjoying her grandchildren.

Carol is survived by her loving husband: Bill Hunter, Austin; daughters and sons-in-law: Jan and Steve Moore, Appleton, Wis., Elizabeth and John Ashley, Danville, Calif.; grandchildren, William, Caroline and Jack William; brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Marilyn Kentopp, Falls City, Richard and Anita Kentopp, Fremont, Neb.; sister-in-law, Loretta Kentopp, Falls City; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Kentopp; brother and sister-in-law, Warren, and Betty Kentopp; and sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn, and Joe Krug.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2009 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Reverend Kristi Koppel officiating. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. and for one hour before the service at the church on Monday.

There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, May 13 at 10 a.m. at the Steele Cemetery in Falls City, Neb.

The organist will be Neal Erickson and soloist will be Elizabeth Ashley. Honorary bearers will be Lee D. Housewright, Jr., Richard Kentopp, William Kentopp and Robert Potach.

C. Dean Baugh, age 77, of Grand Meadow, and formerly of Jefferson, Iowa, died Thursday May 7, 2009 at his home following a brief illness with cancer.

Carroll Dean Baugh was born Oct. 30, 1931 in Carroll, Iowa to Grover Baugh and Leona McCullaugh Baugh. He spent his childhood in the Bagley, Iowa area.

On June 17, 1950 he was united in marriage to Patricia May Waldo at the Jefferson Gospel Church in Jefferson and together they farmed for 20 years in the Grand Meadow area where they raised their family.

They returned in 1975 to the Jefferson area, where he owned Baugh Iron and Metal with his brother, Bud. In 1978 he retired from WCI. In June 2007 they returned to Grand Meadow. He enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing and his family.

He is survived by a son; Dennis (Cheri) Baugh of Grand Meadow; five daughters: Carol (Joe) Johnson and Connie (Jim) Leichtnam of Grand Meadow, Ruth (Larry) Nold of Elkton, Rhonda Randleman of Jefferson, and Sheri Greer of Grand Meadow; 21 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Waldo of Perry, Iowa; sisters, Pearl Henke and Marry Bell of Stewartville and Darlene Peters of Glidden, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Baugh of Friend, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia, in February 2009; a grandson, Michael Dean; four sisters and four brothers.

Friends may call at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church in Grand Meadow on Sunday May 10, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Clyde M. Ellis, 89, of Ostrander and formerly of Austin, died on May 7, 2009 at the Ostrander Nursing Home.

Clyde was born June 2, 1919 in Centerville, Iowa to Clarence and Nellie Ellis. His family eventually settled in Austin. Clyde married Louise Gorman and enrolled in the National Guard. He served with the Army overseas during World War II. Clyde was a retired employee of Hormel Foods and he was a lifelong farmer.

Survivors include his son, Larry (Mary) Ellis, Emerson, Neb.; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters; nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Louise on Jan. 20, 2001; and his son, Gary. Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2009 at Mayer Funeral Home with the Reverend Dennis Tamke officiating. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Grandview Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 91.

Mary Magdalene Duenow of Northfield, Minn. died peacefully on Friday morning, May 8, 2009 at the age of 101.

Mary was born in Coldwater, Ohio in 1908, the second of six children of Mathias and Elizabeth Weber. The family moved to Stacyville, Iowa where Mary grew up, completed high school and in her late teens played the piano in her family’s dance band that performed throughout the region. Mary attended college at Iowa State Teachers College and returned home to work as a bookkeeper at the local bank. She married Lawrence C. Duenow in 1933 and for a few years lived wherever jobs were available in Iowa and Missouri.

In 1939 they settled in Austin, where they went into the restaurant business. Together they owned and operated the Blue Plate cafe for more than 12 years, then acquired the M&J Drive-In and later the Park Drive-In.

In the mid 50s they were recruited by Colonel Sanders to introduce his chicken recipe into their thriving business and later became charter franchise members of the newly established Kentucky Fried Chicken Corp. Mary was a full-time partner with her husband through all their business ventures and continued to expand their chain of stores following her husband’s death in 1972.

In addition to her career in the restaurant business, Mary took a keen interest in the education and various pursuits of her children. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and was an organist and sang in the church choir. She was an avid bridge player and enthusiastic Twins fan her entire life. She was an active member of the Queen of Angels Altar Society and frequently volunteered at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Austin. In her late 80s she moved to a retirement complex in Apple Valley, Minn. and spent her last few years at “The Rivers” in Burnsville and then the Three Links Care Center in Northfield, Minnesota.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; brothers, Ottmar and Walter; sisters, Eleanor and Florence; son-in-law Larry; and great-grandchildren Oliver and Spencer. She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Bensmiller of Vista, Calif; daughters, Jane Nelson of Louisville, Colo. and Carol (Jay) Bambery of Woodbury, Minn.; sons, James (Diane) Duenow of San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Gene (Peg) Duenow of Elko, Minn.; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield. A private interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service and a reception will follow. Memorials preferred to St. Jude’s Hospital. Arrangements are with the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield.

Vondean Winona Gulbrandson, age 81, of Austin, died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield.

Vondean was born May 23, 1927 in Wymore, Neb. to Walter and Ruby (Lytle) Lemon. She worked for a plastic manufacturer. Vondean was united in marriage to Ernest Anderson. He preceded her in death in 1968. On Oct. 12, 1991 she was united in marriage to James Gulbrandson in Carson City, Nev.

Survivors include her husband, James Gulbrandson, Austin; a son, Terry Anderson, Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Tonna (Dennis) Burdick, Kansas City; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Terry (Kate) Gulbrandson, Waseca, Minn., Dean Gulbrandson, Rochester, Minn.; two stepdaughters, Kande Artigue, Rochester, Lynn Gastelum, Pleasanton, Calif; and a brother, Derold Lemon, Raytown, Mo..

In addition to her first husband, she is preceded in death by five brothers: Dean, Leon, Bob, Chuck and Jim; and one sister, Toniann (Jim’s first wife).

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. AUSTIN, MINN. -- A memorial service for Maye E. Jensen will be at 11 a.m. on May 16 at . . . Mrs. Jensen, age 89, died on December 22, 2008.

She was born Nov. 5, 1919, to John and Esther (Billiard) Vogt in Waseca, Minn., and was educated in Olivia (Minn.) schools. She married Harry Jensen in September 1938. They resided in Albert Lea until her husband joined the war effort in Bremerton, Wash. They returned to Minnesota following World War II, and lived in Albert Lea until building a home in Austin in 1948.

Mrs. Jensen worked at Geo. A. Hormel & Co. in the steno pool. She was also a longtime employee of the First National Bank of Austin, working in the check-sorting department.

Maye E. Jensen: daughter, sister, wife, sister in law, mother, advisor and friend, joined her late husband, Harry, on Dec. 22, 2008.

She was born Nov. 5, 1919 to John & Esther (Billiard) Vogt in Waseca, Minn. Maye was educated in Olivia, Minn. schools. She married Harry Jensen in September of 1938. The resided in Albert Lea, Minn. until Harry joined the war effort in Bremerton, Wash. They returned to Minnesota after World War II ended and lived in Albert Lea until they built a home in Austin in 1948. Maye worked at George A. Hormel and Co. in the steno pool. She was also a long time employee of The First National Bank of Austin, working in the check sorting department.

She is survived by sons, Michael (Martha) Jensen, Wichita, Kans, Dan (Sharon) Jensen, Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren, Michelle Jensen and Jill (Jimmy) Claphan, Wichita, Eric Jensen and Anna Jensen, Seattle, Wash.; great-grandchildren, Philip Jensen, Krysta Jensen and Dakota Ziesenis, all of Wichita; great-great-grandson, Jaylen Sellers, Wichita; sister, Barbara Emerson, Renville, Minn.; brothers, Paul (Edith)Vogt, Olivia, Minn., Myron (Valeria)Vogt, Port Ludlow, Wash. and numerous other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held in Austin, at The Worlein Funeral Home on Saturday May 16, 2009 at 11 a.m. Maye wished to be remembered by the following verse and that “I Did it my way”! I’d like my memory to be a happy one.

Dale Allan “Slick” Wetzel, 65, of Austin, died on February 5, 2009, at his home in Austin.

He was born Sept. 8, 1943, in Austin, the son of Henry and (Henrietta (McDermott) Wetzel. He graduated from Austin High School in 1961. After graduation, Dale served with the United States Army where he served in Vietnam. After his discharge, Dale served with the Minnesota National Guard for several years. He worked at Jim Lebans Ford dealership for 11 years, and most recently worked for the Pinkerton Security until his retirement in 2008. Dale lived his entire life in Austin.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Floyd Mathison, 85, died on May 10, 2009 at Crestview Villa, Hayfield, Minnesota.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian; daughter, LaRhee and special friend Hrustan Dizdarevic, Mason City; son, Jack and special friend DeeAnn Randall, Austin; brother-in-law, Wayne Sheldon, Duluth; two grandsons, Blake (Katie) Janson and Brock (Annette) Janson; great-grandson, Brian; two great-granddaughters, Samantha and Jerica; three step-great-grandchildren, Chantelle (Ben), Cody, and Gunner; step-great-great-grandson, Gavon, all of Michigan; many nieces and nephews.

Robert Gene Braaten, 56, of Blooming Prairie, died on May 9, 2009 at his home in Blooming Prairie. He was born May 3, 1953, in Austin, the son of Dale Richard and Charlotte Rae (Hanson) Braaten. He attended school in Blooming Prairie, graduating from Blooming Prairie High School in 1971. On Feb. 26, 1972, he was united in marriage to Mary J. Plunkett in South Dakota. The couple made their home in Colorado for two years before returning to Blooming Prairie. Robert worked for Slidell in Owatonna, Minn., for 23 years and most recently enjoyed his work at Metal Services in Blooming Prairie. He loved fishing, golfing and spending time with family and friends, especially his five grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and storytelling ability. He will be remembered for telling tales and his keen ability to build and fix anything.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mary J. Vida D. Holmquist, 81, died Monday, April 10, 2000 of complications following a heart attack in January in Rochester Health Care where she had been a resident the past week.

She was born Sept. 13, 1918 at St. Charles to the Bectholds. She was married on August 13, 1938 at the Moscow Lutheran Church to Arnold Holmquist who died in 1971.

She grew up in the Faribault and Austin, Minnesota areas. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Moscow Township, Freeborn County area until the death of Mr. Holmquist. In 1972 she moved to Stewartville and lived there until present.

She was a homemaker and member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Stewartville.

She is survived by son Richard (Hazel) Holmquist; daughter Linda (Curtis) Wibben both of Stewartville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and one sister.

· Service: 11 a.m. on Friday, April 14 at Zion Lutheran Church, Stewartville with the Rev. Jules Erickson officiating.

· Interment: Oakland Lutheran Cemetery, Oakland, Minn. at 1:45 that day.

Marie E. McFarland, 83, Austin, died Monday at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

She was born on December 8, 1916 in Webb, Iowa to Arthur and Marie Underwood. Her family moved to Austin when she was 3. She graduated from Austin High School in 1935. She was united in marriage to George McFarland April 4, 1936 in Austin, She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Marion Circle of the Church, the Eagles and Moose Lodges, and the Royal Neighbors.

She is survived by Duane McFarland, Austin; daughter and son-in-law JoAnn and Lary Dillavou, Olive Branch, Miss.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, son George, two brothers, and one sister.

Mary C. (Decker) Retica, 83, died Monday, April 10, 2000 in Hibbing.

She was born in Austin on July 22, 1916 o Leonard and Blanche (Christie) Decker. She married Mario Retica on Aug. 22, 1938 in Austin, and they moved to Hibbing in 1944 where she was a homemaker, member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and an active community volunteer. She was a member of the University Medical Center-Mesabi Medical Center Board of Directors, serving as board secretary from 1982-1985; was Mesabi Country Club's Women's Golf Association Representative, and was active with the Girl Scouts. She received many community awards. She was an avid golfer, bridge club member, Women's bowling league member, and she enjoyed knitting, sewing and painting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mario Retica, by her parents, a brother, James Decker, and a grandson Patrick.

Pallbearers will be James Decker, Richard Decker, David Decker, Frank Golis, Mark Retica, Peter Gambucci, Richard Whelan, and Milt Verant. Honorary pallbearers will be Kay Zeiher, Bertha Segar, Dorie Carey, Roberta Fahlman, Paulette Perkovich, Peggy McCabe, Elaine Baldrica, Gert Robertson, And Sylvia Perell.

Austin Campbell Gaddis, 97, of Austin, died Friday afternoon, April 7, 2000, at Prairie Manor in Blooming Prairie.

He was born April 7, 1903 in Audubon County, Iowa to Elijah and Margaret G. (Campbell) Gaddis. He married Mina Woodson Dec. 17, 1933 in Austin. Austin served in the Army and Coast Guard during World War II. He worked for Geo. A. Hormel & Co. for forty years. He belonged to American Legion Post 91 and was the first person in Minnesota to receive the ODD Fellows Meritorious Award. He had a special interest in youth camp FA-HO-CHA on German Lake near Faribault. He enjoyed woodworking, repaired and made furniture, did canning and enjoyed gardening and growing vegetables.

Survivors include sister Florence Harris of Apple Valley, Calif., many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mina, in 1979.

· Services: Funeral services will be held at Worlein Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2000, with the Rev. Randy Petersen officiating.

· Interment: Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post No. 91.

Florence McFarland, age 78, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, April 7, 2000, at Austin Medical Center.

She was born July 11, 1921, at Bolton Lanchester, England, to Jack and Martha (Steward) Hollinghead.

After high school, she worked in her father's English pub, where she met Allan Earl McFarland. They were married November 29, 1943, at St. John's Presbyterian Church in Bolton Lanchester, England.

After emigrating to America, they moved to Albert Lea, where she worked in a restaurant as a waitress. In 1950, they moved to Austin, where she worked first at Coffee Cup Cafe and later at Mom's Kitchen bakery.

Her husband, Allan, became ill and died April 4, 1980 and she returned to work for the Minnesota Sheriff's Youth Program Thrift Mart until she became ill and entered Burr Oak Manor.

Survivors include two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren in Texas; a sister, Irene Kay, Bolton, Lanchester, England; sisters-in-law, Marie McFarland, Alvera Mae McGargass, Dorothy McFarland; cousins, nephews, nieces; and special friend, Marlene Schaefer and Donna Gerlach.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allan; a stepson, Jerry McFarland; and her parents, two sisters, Joan and Edna, three brothers, John, Dennis and Michael.

· Service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at Worlein Funeral Home, Austin, with the Rev. Andrew Lindahl officiating.

Lloyd M. Loecher, 60, died Sunday at Adams Health Care Center.

He was born Dec. 20, 1939 at Osage, Iowa, the son of Ben and Rose (Mullenbach) Loecher. He graduated from the Adams High School in 1957 and served in the US Army from 1962 to 1965. He worked for Oliver Tractor and moved to Rockford, Ill. where he was employed by the Rockford Products Tool and Die Co. from Nov. 16, 1969 until July 31, 1991 when he returned to Adams.

He was a member of the Adams American legion Post No. 146 and Sacred heart Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by brother and sister-in-law Robert and Catherine Loecher, Adams, nephews and wives John and Tamara Loecher, Adams, James and Kathy Loecher, St. Charles, Jeffrey and Jane Loecher, Adams; nieces and husbands Lynn Marie and Dana Gorski, Waseca, Cynthia and Patrick Johnson, Adams, Beverly and James Kohner, Winona, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin sister Mary, nephew Joseph Loecher and great nephew Adam Gorski.

Giles Healy, 85

Giles John Healy, 85, Austin, died Sunday evening, April 2, 2000 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

He was born Dec. 20, 1914 in Faribault, Minn. to John S. and Alice S. (O'Toole) Healy. His father's career with the railroad relocated the family to Madison, S.D. and then later to Austin, Minn. when Giles was five years old. Giles attended Columbus Grade School and graduated from St. Augustine High School (now Pacelli) in 1932. Following high school, Giles attended Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. He returned to Austin and was employed by the Hormel Corporation. Giles was with Hormel's for over 40 years with time away during World War II. He served in the United States Army during the war working with the Alcan Highway and in Adak, Alaska in the Aleutian Islands. In 1948 Giles and his best friend Jim Vacura followed their dream and established ownership in Ramsey Golf Course. Giles and Jim both worked at Hormel's and worked on the course from 9 to 18 holes for the enjoyment of the entire Austin community. They sponsored an annual fund raising golf tournament to benefit Pacelli High School.

Giles was a member for over 55 years of the American Legion Post N. 91 where he was a Past Commander and President of the Club Committee. He was a member of the Honor Guard and Funeral Escort. Giles was also a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church and a life member, 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by Carmel Wald, Austin and her family: Mary Ann and James Hanson, Fremont, Neb., Jeanette and Ronald Fusile, Warrenton, Va., seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; cousins and many loyal business associates.

He is preceded in death by his parents: John S. and Alice S. Healy and by his brother Bob Healy who died at Walter Reed Hospital after returning from World War I.

The honorary casket bearers will be Keith Hanson, Gary Armand, Jay Hanson and all Loved Friends of Giles. The casket bearers will be Kelly Hanson, Ron Hanson, Bill Willmert, Bob Bromeland, Gary Gavin and Jeff Fusile.

· Service: A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2000 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Virgil Duellman officiating.

Lawrence B. Heister, 91, formerly of Austin, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at the Turtle Lake Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake, N.D.

Lawrence Bernard Heister was born Aug. 19, 1908, near McClusky N.D., to Everhard and Mary (Tiemessen) Heister. He grew up and attended rural school in the McClusky area and began farming there as well. Lawrence served in the U.S. Army during World War II and took part in the Normandy invasion in Europe. He was honorably discharged and returned to the McClusky area to farm. He married Agnes Dorothy Holland on Jan. 12, 1946 in Austin. They lived in the McClusky area until 1949 when they moved to a farm near Austin. Agnes died April 12, 1980. Lawrence returned home to McClusky in Aug. 1996 and lived in the Sheridan Memorial Home.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in McClusky, N.D. and Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin.

Virginia L. "Ginny" (Fielding) Manning, 76, died February 26, 2000 at Hospice House in Cleveland.

She was a born on January 28, 2000 [SIC] in Austin. She lived in Mentor for the past 43 years.

She was a 1942 graduate of St. Augustine's High School in Austin. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Mentor. She entered service with the U.S. Navy on Feb. 19, 1944 and served as a pharmacist mate first class with the WAVE Medical Corps in Paris Island, S.C. where she met her husband, Marine Master Sergeant Daniel Manning Jr. of Cleveland. They were married April 4, 1945, and honorable discharged in August of 1945.

Mrs. Manning was a quality control supervisor at the GE Quartz Plant in Willoughby for 23 years, retiring in 1986. She was also a waitress at The Cabin in Willowick.

She is survived by her daughter Colleen S. (Trenten) Stemen, Concord Township; sons Daniel E. "Diver" Manning III, Concord Township, Patrick C. Manning, Buena Park, Calif., Michael P. (Nancy) Manning, Kirtland Hills, Dennis J. Manning, Concord Township and Timothy J. Manning, Mentor; four grandchildren; sisters, Ellie Brinkman, Austin, Eileen Toby, St. Paul, and brother Hal Fielding, Littleton, Colo. (since deceased).

She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel E. Manning Jr.; daughter Kathleen and brother Charles Fielding.

· Interment: was at Souls Cemetery, Chardon Township.

Gladys Olson, 80, of Lyle, Minnesota, died on Friday, March 31, 2000, at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center in Austin, Minnesota.

She was born on December 9, 1919 at Adrian, N.D. to Mikkel M. And Clara R. (Dahle) Helle. Born and raised on the prairies of North Dakota, Gladys lived there during the dust storms of the 1930's. She was baptized and confirmed at James River Valley Lutheran Church in Montpelier, N.D. Memories included walking two and a half miles to Manor Township country grade school, fall, winter and spring, sometimes over dust piles as high as the fence; having the teacher come to stay overnight; falling through "rubber ice" on the slough on the way to school; herding father's cattle along the road to save on grass in the pasture; milking cows, picking potatoes; shocking wheat; driving the horses on a hay wagon; stacking Russian thistle in the early morning while it was still damp with dew, the first ride in a Model T Ford; the first radio; churning butter in our steel churn; baths in the round steel wash tub; trips to the "out house" (with a sister always going along at night); kerosene lamps and lanterns; ironing our clotheswith the sad iron; carrying water in the house from the windmill; heating water on the kitchen stove. Gladys attended Montpelier High School and graduated from Marian High School in 1938. She moved to Lyle in December of that year and married Harlon Everette Olson Feb. 27, 1942 at the Lutheran parsonage. Gladys worked for Burghard Produce for almost 20 years. Gladys and Harlan lived on the Olson farm until March 27, 1952 and then bought a home in Lyle. In September of 1971 Gladys enrolled at the Austin Vocational School, taking a secretarial course. The next six years she worked as a social worker/secretary at Austin Salvation Army. In 1978 she worked as a secretary to the Farmers Insurance Agency in Lyle. A member of Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church, she was Trinity Parish treasurer and Six Mile Grove treasurer, ALCW president several times: secretary of Trinity Parish; and taught Sunday School for several years.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Steven and Carol Olson, Wesley, Iowa, Dennis and Paula Olson, Ellendale; Mark and Carla Olson, Lyle; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister Wilma Hanson, Thornton, Iowa; brother-in-law Thorman Olson; sister-in-law Armeda Olson, both of Rose Creek.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister.

· Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 4 at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church of Lyle with the Rev. Lydia Mittag officiating.

· Interment: Six Mile Grove Cemetery.

Thelma Pearl Wandrey, 73, of Dexter, Minnesota, and formerly of Dodge Center, died Monday, April 3, 2000, at Austin Medical Center, Austin, Mower county, Minnesota.

She was born July 6, 1926 to Fay and Pearl (Stain) Hofius at Salem Corners, Minnesota. She was employed at Seneca Foods in Rochester for approximately ten years until her retirement. A member of Zion Lutheran Church, Thelma also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, was a 4-H leader and organized the Strain family reunion and kept it going for several years. Her family was very important to her, and she will be remembered for her smiles and laughter. She enjoyed doing craft projects, and one of the places she enjoyed visiting most was Reno, Nev.

Luella Mary Kamp, age 79, Austin, Minnesota, died on April 1, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

She was born Jan. 9, 1921 to Cornelius and Mary (Gilligen) Gorman in Austin, Minn. She married Melvin Kamp Oct. 7, 1937 in Austin.

Lavonne Norgaard, 75, of Waseca, Minnesota, died Monday, April 3, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester after a long illness with cancer.

Born in Nevada, Iowa on Sept. 8, 1924, she was the daughter of Oscar and Agnes (Freiheit) Huffman. As a child she moved with her family to Austin and attended Austin Public Schools. Following her schooling she worked at Hormels. She married Kai Norgaard on Nov. 2, 1947 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Elkton. She was a homemaker, a great housekeeper and had worked at various jobs. In 1976 they moved to Waseca where she worked at Brown Printing until retirement. She loved being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren especially at French Lake. She liked their CB Club, dancing, bingo, knitting and attending her grandchildren's various functions. She was a member of the Waseca VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband Kai, Waseca, children Sterling and Sue Norgaard, Winslow, Ariz., Shirley and Jim Eggert, Mankato, Curtis and special friend Neilsa, Winslow, Ariz. and Pat and Howard "Dale" Edwards, Waseca; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers Roy and Anita Huffman, Austin, Earl and Eldora Huffman, Harold and friend Jean, Ronnie and Barb Huffman, Duane and Marilyn Huffman, all of Austin; and Viola and Bob Deyo, St. Paul; sisters-in-law Eileen Camerer, Austin, and Edith Huffman, Brownsdale and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister-in-law and three grandchildren.

Charles Edmund Jones, age 86, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Thursday, March 30, 2000 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

He was born April 9, 1913, in Edmunds County, South Dakota, to Own and Pearl (Hawkins) Jones. He graduated Huron, S.D. high school in 1933 and moved to Austin with his family in 1934. He married Lila Jernberg December 25, 1934, at Austin. She died December 16, 1963. He married Gladys Hammers McMasters November 20, 1965. She died March 224, 2000. Charles worked for Hormel Foods Corporation for 41 years until retiring in 1975.

He enjoyed winters in Texas and summers at Leech Lake near Walker, fishing, camping, hunting.

He was involved with the Spamtown Campers, served as an Austin City Council alderman and played baritone for outdoor church services in Austin and the Austin City Band.

He was a member of the Salvation Army Community Chapel.

Lois Kellogg, age 91, of Adams, Mower county, Minnesota, and formerly of LeRoy, died early Saturday, April 1, 2000, at the Austin Medical Center where she had been a patient since Wednesday.

Lois was born on October 19, 1908 in Mitchell County, Iowa, to Irvin Wheeler and Cora Shumway Wheeler. She attended and graduated from McIntire High School and was united in marriage to Howard G. Shipman July 20, 1943, in Omaha, Nebraska. He died on February 20, 1949.

She was later united in marriage to Frank W. Kellogg on April 1, 1951, in Riceville, Iowa. He died Feb. 6, 1966. She was a members of the Wayne Baptist Church in McIntire.

She is survived by one daughter, Beth (Don) Habicht of Worthington, Minnesota and one son Harold (Joann) Shipman; one granddaughter and one grandson; brother Warren Wheeler of Riceville, Iowa, and sister Olive Trettin of Grafton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands and one brother Clyde Wheeler.

· Service: A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Wayne Baptist Church in McIntire, Iowa, with Gary Gilbert officiating.

· Interment: A private family burial will be held at Wayne Cemetery, McIntire.

· Visitation: Friends and family will be meeting at the LeRoy Community Center for a time of fellowship following the service on Tuesday.

Marie Wilcox, age 80, of LeRoy, Mower county, Minnesota, died on Friday March 31, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester after a lengthy illness.

She was born July 31, 1919 in Alta Vista, Iowa, to Bernard and Mary Reich. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Alta Vista and was later united in marriage to Carl Wilcox on November 9, 1938, in Elma, Iowa. To this union ten children were born. Marie was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking and preparing for her children and grandchildren's visits.

She is survived by her sons Robert (Lillian) of Alta Vista, Iowa; Dale of Clear Lake, Iowa; Leon (Robin) of Brownsdale; Russell of LeRoy; and Tom (Lisa) of LeRoy, also three daughters June (Larry "Joe") Gansen of Hampton, Iowa, Janet (Gerald) Haagenson of Mable, and Linda (Tom) Walker of Lake City; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, also one sister Loretta Powell of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl, son George, an infant daughter, a granddaughter and several brothers and sisters.

· Service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the LeRoy Lutheran Church with the Rev. Thomas Kolden officiating.

· Interment: LeRoy Cemetery

· Visitation: Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. today at the Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in LeRoy and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Thelma (Pam) D. Tiedeman, age 82 of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died on Saturday, April 1, 2000, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin, Minnesota.

She was born October 30, 1917 in Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia to Alfred and Agnes (Castle) Terrell.

She married Chester Tiedeman in Australia. She had graduated from high school and worked as a beautician.

She is survived by son Robyne Tiedeman, Austin; daughter and son-in-law Melodie and Kermit Watts, Austin; three great-grandchildren; brother Roy Terrel, Adelaide, Australia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Margret Tiedeman, Grand Meadow, Bill Marcks, Burnsville, Bernice and Ray Draft, Rose Creek, Clarence and Mildred Enright, Austin; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by husband Chester Tiedeman, two sisters.

Casket bearers will be Ronald Kraft, Wayne Schmidt, Darrell Kraft, Edward Cafourek, Curtis Kraft, Terry Falch

· Service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Clasen-Jordan Chapel with the Rev. Stephen Kurtzhahn officiating. Casket bearers: Ronald Kraft, Wayne Schmidt, Darrell Kraft, Edward Cafourek, Curtis Kraft and Terry Falch.

· Interment: Grandview Cemetery.

· Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2000, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and one hour before services Tuesday at the chapel.

· Funeral Home: Clasen-Jordan Mortuary of Austin.
