On Feb. 2, 1935, she married Garth F. Hadley in the St. Augustine Rectory, a union that lasted just six weeks short of sixty-four years. For a time she was a telephone operator, she was very familiar with the primitive equipment on display at the Mower County Fair Grounds. For many years she was employed at F.W. Woolworth Co., first in charge of the candy counter and later as a floorwalker. In her job as candy lady, she also taught manners to her young customers, Do not tap your coins on the glass while waiting to be served.

She was delighted in later years to be greeted by former patrons, who remembered her and her lessons. She maintained life-long friendships with many of her coworkers at F.W.'s. She enjoyed being a full time homemaker, reading, shopping trips to Daytons in Minneapolis, square dancing and visits to and from family and friends. She had been a member of a study club and of the Collectors Club and a lifetime member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She loved her parish, was an active member of the Rosary-Altar Society and for a time chairperson of the Social Action Committee.

After Garth's retirement, they both worked the funeral dinners. Whatever Geraldine did, she did well and she expected other to do the same. She minded her business, but she could be counted on to take over in a crisis in the family or neighborhood.
