Janet F. Holcomb1916-1999
Janet F. "Jan" Holcomb, 83 years old, of 1800 Boardwalk Blvd., Sandusky,
died early Wednesday morning, Oct. 20, 1999, at Providence Hospital,
Sandusky, after a brief illness.
She was born in Austin on July 14, 1916. She was a graduate of Austin
High School and Stephens College, in Missouri. She was a homemaker and the
wife of the late Hansel H. Holcomb, an International Executive, whom she
had married in 1942. Following WW II in 1946 they had moved to Argentina,
then to Uruguay and later to England. In 1972 they move to Sandusky, Ohio.
She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Sandusky Yacht Club Ladies
Auxiliary, active in the Welcome Wagon, Sunshine club, Cedar Point Garden
Club, Cedar Point Garden Club and the Cultural Center. She was a former
member of the Plum Brook Country Club.
She is survived by sons Stephen Holcomb, Ridgewood, J.J., Jonathon
Holcomb, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Gregory Holcomb, Margate, Florida;
brother Lafayette French, Thomaston, Maine; and a niece.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lafayette and Mabel (Kaufman)
French; husband Hansel H. Holcomb and grandson Drew Holcomb.
· Service: A memorial service will be held on Sunday afternoon,
Oct. 24, 1999, at 2:30 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, Sandusky, with
Pastor Ernest Matijasic will be officiating.
· Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, Minn.
At her request no visitation will be held.
Contributions to be made to the Grace Episcopal Church, 315 Wayne St., Sandusky, Ohio 44870 or to the American Diabetes Association.

John Henry Rasmussen, 86, St. Ansgar, died Wednesday, October 20, 1999
at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, Mitchell county, Iowa. He
was born on November 9, 1912**.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23,
1999 at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar.
Interment will be at Woodbury Cemetery, Lyle, Minnesota.

Cecil Gunderson1927-1999
Cecil Gunderson, 72, of 720 37th St. SW died Oct. 20, 1999, at Austin Medical Center.
He was born in Sargeant Township on April 15, 1927 to Eva (Bullis) and Olaf M. Gunderson. He graduated from Austin High School in 1945. He married Janice Eggert in 1948 in Hayfield. He was an auto mechanic for Funk Chevrolet in Hayfield and parts and service manager at Dibble Pontiac in Austin. He retired in 1992 after 17 years as building and grounds keeper at Austin community college.
Survivors include his wife, Janice, Austin; daughter Connie Tapp and her fiancé David Hatle, Adams; son Jerry and wife Barb, Brownsdale; three grandsons; one step great-grandson; sister and brother-in-law Millicent and Donald Brueske, Lakeville; several nieces and nephews.
Honorary casket bearers are Jack Francis, Verlin Johnson, Duane Klingerman, Truman Moen, Harold Sanvick.

Vernell Hanson 1902-1999
Vernell Emma Hanson, 97, of Austin, died on Monday afternoon, Oct. 19,
1999 at Burr Oak Manor.
She was born April 1, 1902, in Bristow, Wis. to Emelia (Hopp) and Nels
T. Fortun. She spent her childhood in Lyle. After graduation from high
school, she entered St. Olaf Hospital nurses training, graduating in 1923,
earning her Registered Nursing degree. She married Chris J. Hanson Feb.
20, 1928. Mr. Hanson died in 1961. Vernell was an active member of St.
Olaf Lutheran church and enjoyed quilting.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
· Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999 at Worlein Funeral Home chapel with The Rev. James I. Mikkelson officiating.

Lai Shen 1971-1999
Lai Shen, 28 of Shanghai, China, died Friday, Oct. 15, near Modale, Iowa, the result of an automobile accident.
Lai Shen was employed by Hormel Foods International Corporation August 8, as director of finance and accounting at the company's Beijing, China plant. He was in the United States for a one-year training program.
He was born in Shanghai, graduating in 1994 from the Shanghai International Studies University with a degree in economics and English. He received an MBA degree in management in 1997 from Catholic University in Leuven, Belgium, and an MS degree in finance in 1999 from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Survivors include his parents, Bing Quan Shen and Yunmei Mao.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 26, in Omaha, Nebraska.

Lois B. Downs 1904-1999
Lois B. Downs, widow of Dr. William B. Downs, DDS, died peacefully at
the Adams Health Care Center in Adams on October 20, 1999. Lois was born
on September 14, 1904*.
She is survived by a daughter Marilyn D. Caryotakis, Portola Valley,
Calif.; son and daughter-in-law Bill and Idamae Downs, Austin; five
grandchildren; seven grandchildren.
She gave of herself during her life and is fondly remembered by many.
The family will hold private memorial services.

John J. Nystel 1948-1999
John Nystel, 51, Lake City, died early Thursday morning, Oct. 21, 1999 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester as a result of an automobile accident.
John was born April 27, 1948, in Austin to John and Virginia (Mauer) Nystel. He worked as a real estate salesman and was a charter master at Lake City Marina. He enjoyed traveling, boating, road cruising, socializing and playing cards with friends. He loved music.
Survivors include five brothers: James Nystel of Mapleview, Donald Nystel (fiancee Mary Jo Jenkins) of Lansing; David Nystel (fiancee Kelly Simmonds, Austin; Wayne Nystel, Austin; Robert Nystel, Austin; two sisters and brothers-in-law Linda (Terry) Sprandel, Austin; Dawn (Bob) DeVriendt, Austin; many nieces, nephews and friends and special friend Pat Morrow of Lake City.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Virginia Nystel.
Honorary casket bearers will be Tom Lindrud, Randy J. "Bones" Bartlewski, Rick Rodewald, Dennis Carrell, Ron Horinak, Robert Hartery, Don Winbald and Elliot Vaughn.

Donald E. Learn1921-1999
Donald E. Learn, 77, of rural Lyle died Friday, April 2, 1999, at the
Austin Medical Center.
He was born June 22, 1921 in Mower County to Harry and Jesse Learn.
He graduated from Austin High School in 1939. He married Phyllis Cook
on Sept. 22, 1944, at the United Brethren Church Parsonage in Austin.
He farmed most of his life and he worked for Kings (Queens) Sealy Thermos
in Albert Lea from 1968 until 1984 when he retired. His hobbies were camping
and fishing.
He is survived by wife, Phyllis, Lyle; daughters and son-in-law: Grace and Robert Wagner, Stacyville, Iowa; Ruth Smalley, Kasson; sons and daughters-in-law: Wayne and Jean Learn, Red Wing; Frank and Faye Learn, Hayward; Leo and Julie Learn, Myrtle; Cecil and Elaine Learn, Albert Lea; 18 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; sisters and brother-in-law: Darlene and Dale Schmidt, Appleton, Mildred Lonergan, Austin; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Jeremy Learn, two brothers and two sisters.

Anton Wellik 1909-1999
Anton F. Wellik, 89, of Austin, formerly of the Elkton and Grand Meadow
area, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, in Santa Paula, Calif.
He was born Nov. 23, 1909 in Clutier, Iowa to Louis and Emma (Urich) Wellik. He attended country schools and later Grand Meadow High School, graduating in 1926. He married Lorraine Kettner in Cresco, Iowa, on Nov. 22, 1931. He was a retired farmer.
He was an active member of Grange for many years, holding several positions. He attended state conventions as a delegate and also served as Master for nine years. He served on the board of Marshall Township for 10 years and as clerk for five years. He served on the Elkton School Board for nine years, two terms as president. During his leadership the new gym and class addition were planned and built. He served on the Methodist Church Board at Dexter and on the Elkton City Council and was mayor for six years. His leadership led to the creation of Elkton's sanitary sewer system and during his term the Elkton Community Building became a reality. Anton enjoyed fishing, cribbage, woodworking and spending time around his family. He had a tremendous sense of humor and an enthusiastic love of life.
He is survived by daughters Bette (Joe) Paine, Lake Elsinore, Calif. and Janet Shephard, Santa Paula, Calif.; son Gerald A. (Peggy) Wellik of Minneapolis; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine in 1993, his parents, four brothers, one infant sister and one grandson.
Casket bearers will be Philip, Jamie, Daniel, Wayne, Edward and Dale Wellik and Mark Shepherd.

Joseph Steven DePaul 1984-2000
Joseph Steven DePaul, 15 of 302 8th St. NW, Austin, Minnesota, died
Monday, June 12, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, following a
lengthy illness with leukemia.
He was born July 13, 1984, at Royal Oaks, Michigan, to Thomas and
JoEllyn (Owens) DePaul.
He was a student at Austin High School, a member of The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was involved in Boy Scouts of
America Troop 122. He was also an Explorer through the Austin Police
Department. Joseph enjoyed computers and was employed by Culver's of Austin.
Survivors include his mother, JoEllyn DePaul (and Robert Jorgenson),
Austin; father, Thomas DePaul (and wife Susan), Lapeer, Mich.; brothers
and sisters, Jason DePaul and Jessica DePaul, Austin, Tom (and wife Lisa)
DePaul, Sterling Heights, Mich., Robin DePaul of Ypsilanti, Mich.; step
brothers and sisters, Wade Kergan, Ann Arbor, Mich., Rob, Jon, Julia and
Tim Jorgenson, Rochester; and nieces.
Joseph was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents
and two uncles.

Kay Murphy1935-2000
Kay Murphy, 65, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died April 25, 2000 in
Springfield of cancer.
Murphy was born April 23, 1935 in Austin to Melvin and Florence Clausen
Rudlong. She graduated from high school in Austin in 1952.
She married Earl Jones. They later divorced. She married Ralph Smith.
Her interests included camping, the outdoors, playing pool and spending
time with friends and family.
Survivors include sons, Randy Jones, Fall Creek, Kevin Smith, Springfield,
and Mike Smith, Ridgecrest, Calif.; brothers, Jan Rodenizer, Toledo, Wash.,
and Edward Rodenizer, Cresco, Iowa; sister, Carol McClean, Vader, Wash.;
six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Springfield Church of God.

Evelyn Christensen Shimizu 1926-2000
Evelyn Christensen Shimizu, 73, Cordes Lakes, Ariz., formerly of Austin, died June 4, 2000, in Prescott, Ariz. after a valiant fight with cancer.
She was born Sept. 22, 1926 in St. Paul to Arthur and Helen (Gorman) Christensen. She married James in 1956 in Chicago, Ill. To this union four daughters were born: Rosemary (Peter) Sobel, M.D., Pensacola, Fla., Jane (John) Wernick, Buffalo Grove, Ill., Elaine (David) Hayes, Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Debra (Albert) Hummerich, Black Canyon City, Ariz.
Other survivors include five grandchildren; sisters, Helen Voigt, Austin, and Dorothy Christensen, Albuquerque, N.M.; brother, Arthur Christensen, Valencia, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James on April 22 of this year; her parents; brother, the Rev. David Christensen.
Evelyn was a member of TOPS and enjoyed working with the children in her church. She made stained glass windows and lamps, also enjoyed gardening, and sewing.
· Service: Services were held June 10 at Community Bible Church of Cordes Lakes, Ariz.

John A. Novotny, age 73, a resident of the Twin Towers, died Sunday
evening, Oct. 17, 1999 at the Austin Medical Center.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law Frank and Nancy Novotny,
Austin, Bob and Diana Novotny, Richmond, Va.; four daughters and a son-in-law
Betty Novotny, Austin, Mary Novotny, Mankato; Marsha and Andy Smith,
Almogordo, N.M.; Teresa Novotny, Austin; three grandsons; three
granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; two sisters; Bea Dankert,
Austin, Helen Dankert, Austin.
He is preceded in death by his wife Lucille on November 2, 1983;
his daughter Virginia on Dec. 20, 1996.

Russel E. Lee 1913-1999
Russel E. Lee, 85, 2105 6th Ave. SE, Austin, Minnesota, died Monday,
October 18, 1999 at his home.
He was born Nov. 20, 1913 in Ada, Minn. to Russell M. and Mabel (Lindow)
Lee. On Sept. 17, 1955 he was united in marriage to Florence Catherine
Schaefer at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. He was a farmer and
his desires in life were simple and close to his home and family. He loved
the farm life and when he wasn't working the land or milking, he spent time
tinkering in his shop. He often invented gadgets and usually put them to
good use. When his health began to deteriorate he spent his time playing
cribbage with friends and reading. He reminisced frequently about the
wonderful times fishing at Lake of the Woods and joining his many friends
at Baudette for dancing, cards and socializing. He was a kind and gentle
person who will be greatly missed.
He was survived by his wife Florence; a son and this friend Ron Lee and
Karrie Butler, Lyle; step sons Eugene Etzig and friend Nelsa Parsi,
Rochester, Roger and Melba Etzig, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a step daughter
Lenore McCutcheon, Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
The casket bearers will be James Hanson, Margaret Srsen, Dean Schaefer, Michael Hanson, Mary Barth and Karen Davidson.
· Service: A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 22, 1999 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Virgil Duellman officiating.

Marguerite Burton 1910-2000
Marguerite B. Burton, 89, of Austin, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at Sacred Heart Care Center.
She was born Nov. 29, 1910, in Austin to James and Anna (Ulwelling) Blowers. She taught school
until she married Harry Frank Burton in Mason City, Iowa, on Feb. 12, 1933. She enjoyed needlework.
She is survived by sons Harry Burton Jr., Austin, LaVern Burton, Austin, Richard Burton, Appleton,
Wis., Roger Burton, Cannon Falls; daughter, Barbara Lewis, Austin; 22 grandchildren; many great-
grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, a son, brothers and sister and her parents.
Service: A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. today at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with
Father Virgil Duellman officiating.
Visitation: A rosary was held Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends also called Sunday.

Mildred M. Wilder1897-1999
Mildred M. Wilder, 102, Austin, died yesterday Oct. 17, 1999 at Burr Oak
Manor in Austin.
She was born Nov. 3, 1897 in Worth County, Iowa to Prosper and Mary (Belknap) Wilder.
She lived in Austin most of her life and worked for Marigold Dairies and the Hormel Foods Corp. for a few years. she enjoyed her friends and did some traveling. She was very close to her Lord and Savior.
· Service: 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 22, 1999 at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with Paster Philip and Paula Palacios officiating.
· Interment: Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle Township.

Charles J. Bolla, Sr.1919-1999
Charles J. Bolla St., 80, Hayfield, formerly of Blooming Prairie, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999 at Field Crest Care Center, Hayfield.
He was born Aug. 15, 1919 in Minneapolis to Joseph W. and Anna (Flanagan) Bolla.
He married his wife, Geraldine in 1956. Charles began working at Hormel Foods during World War II and worked in various departments for 30 years until his retirement in the mid '70s. His hobbies were golf, fishing trips and gardening.
He is survived by son Charles Jr., Texas; brother and sister-in-law John and Charlotte Bolla, Minnetonka; sister Marie Wynne, Seal Beach, Calif.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1960 and his parents.

Bernice Iola (Bjorgo) Halverson1908-1999
Bernice Halverson, 91 (Buried in Austin)
Bernice Iola Halverson, 91, Austin, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999 at Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie, Minn.
She was born Sept. 15, 1908 in Winnesheik County, Iowa, to Henry and
Johanna (Kjome) Bjorgo. She moved to Austin from Spring Grove and attended
Austin High School. She worked for Austin Laundry for a few years and
married Orville Halverson on March 15, 1931 in Owatonna. She and her
husband loved to travel and continued traveling into their retirement.
She began working for the Sears Catalog Store in Austin in 1943 until
she retired after 24 years in 1967. During her retirement she began to
play golf and enjoyed it for many years. Bernice was a charter member of
Our Saviors Lutheran Church and a charter member of the B.P.O.E. #414 Does
and the Order of the Eastern Star Unity Chapter #29.
She had many hobbies including hardanger, quilting and sewing. She liked to bowl in her younger years and was an avid reader. She liked to visit with her family and her friends at the nursing homes.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Duane and Marilyn Halverson, Austin; grandchildren Joni Halverson, Austin, Kathy and Jerry Stoeckigt, Naperville, Ill., Thomas and Dana Halverson, Springboro, Ohio; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Verna Holmes, Las Cruses, N.M.; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Orville Halverson in 1988, three brothers, and special sister-in-law Cora Halverson.
Service: 1:30 p.m., Saturday, October 30, 1999 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with The Rev. Don Deines officiating. Organist will be Janet Gilbretson, and soloist will be the Rev. Dan Kahl. Casket bearers will be: Donald Ramlo, Emery "Bud" Thompson, Norman Kjome, Donald Osmonson, Nils Kjome, and Dennis Bjorgo.
· Interment: Grandview Cemetery in Austin
· Visitation: Friends may call at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Friday, Oct. 29, 1999 from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999 for one hour before the service at the church.

Lucille Mary Baudler 1923-2009
Lucille Mary Baudler, age 86, died on April 24, 2009.
Lucille was born on Nov. 14, 1923 to beloved parents Carl and Julia
Baudler and she spent 85 years as a resident of Austin, a town she was
proud to call home.
Lucille received both a bachelor of arts and master’s degree in
psychology from the University of Minnesota. She was active in Democrat
politics all of her adult life and was a true liberal, long before the term
was coined. Lucille was an ardent opponent of United States involvement in
the Vietnam War and was a passionate supporter of the Civil Rights Movement
and equal rights for women.
Lucille loved classical music and her trips to see the Minnesota Orchestra with her dear friend Janet Dickson were some of her favorite memories.
Lucille cherished being part of the Baudler family and was proud of her family’s heritage and deep roots in Austin. She was an integral part of life for her niece and nephew, Ellen and Tom Baudler, and their families. A day at Aunt Lucille’s provided unconditional love, attention and appreciation for the bounty provided by a simple existence. She will be greatly missed.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents: Carl and Julia Baudler, and brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Bernice Baudler. She is survived by niece Ellen Baudler (Jack Cann), St. Paul; Tom Baudler (Lisa) of Austin and her dear grand nieces and nephews, Michael, Kathleen, and Mary Cann and Natalie, Ingrid and Tony Baudler.
Services will be held at St. Olaf Lutheran Church on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 11 a.m. Memorials are preferred to the Minnesota Orchestra, Lutheran Social Services, or St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Dorothy Jean (nee Sweazey) Theuer 1931-2009
Dorothy Jean Theuer, 78, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died at her
home Thursday evening, April, 23, 2009.
Dorothy was born on February 19, 1931 to James and Maude Sweazey in Austin,
where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1949. She married Karl
Theuer on March 13, 1953 in Austin.
She worked at the Blooming Prairie Bakery and later at Ben Franklin in
Blooming Prairie. She spent several years as a caregiver for her
father-in-law and taking care of the grandchildren, which she really
enjoyed.
A member of St. Columbanus Catholic Church and VFW Auxiliary, Dorothy
enjoyed ceramics, gardening and the outdoors.
Survivors include her husband: Karl Theuer, rural Blooming Prairie; two
sons: Wesley (Pat) Theuer, Bosque Farms, N.M., Wayne Theuer, Shakopee,
Minn.; daughter: Karla (Arden) Anderson, Blooming Prairie; six
grandchildren: Tami, Amy, Scott, Sarah, Alissa, and Wyatt; six
great-grandchildren: Alex, Adrian, Talon, Gavin, Awtum, Joclyn;
sisters: Viva (Cecil) McGonigle, Austin, Minn., Nettie Greenman,
Rock Island, Ill., Dixie (L.D.) Wytaske, Lansing, Minn., brothers:
James Wentzel, Bishop, Ga., Robert Wentzel, Austin, Guy Wentzel,
Las Cruces, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 27, 2009 at St. Columbanus Catholic Church. A Rosary Service will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home where friends may greet the family from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at St. Columbanus Cemetery. The family prefers memorials to donor’s choice.

Harriet Evelyn (Tabor) Marquardt1908-2000
Harriet Evelyn Marquardt, 92, formerly of Austin, died Tuesday, Oct. 3,
2000, in Roswell, N.M.
Harriet was born February 5, 1908, in Waupaca, Wis. to David A. and Helen
Peterson Tabor. She married William G. Marquardt at St. Peter, June 21, 1923.
Harriet was a resident of Austin from about 1938 until 1992. Since 1992 she lived with her daughter
and son-in-law, Sharon and L.E. Cutrell in Roswell, N.M. Earlier this year she became a resident of a
Roswell nursing home.
Harriet was employed as registrar for the Austin Medical Clinic. She was a long-time member of
Westminster Presbyterian Church of Austin and is a past Worthy Matron and a 50 year member of the
Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (L.E.) Cutrell of Roswell, N.M.; son, Bruce W. Marquardt,
Rose Creek; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Tabor, Austin.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 26, 1977; her parents; a brother, Edward A.
Tabor, and a sister, Lucille Mooney.
Service: Memorial services will be conducted in Austin (date and time to be announced later). It was
her wish that her remains be cremated and her ashes buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
Cremation is under the direction of Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory.

Hazel (McNalley) Mlenar1914-2000
Hazel A. Mlenar, 86, of Spring Valley, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at the Olmsted Community Hospital
in Rochester.
She was born April 30, 1914, in Austin to Charles McNalley and Emma Shetek
McNalley. She graduated form Austin High School and in May of 1931 she
married Joseph Mlenar. He died in 1964.
Hazel worked as an egg candler for Collins Produce for many years. She enjoyed reading and
spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna (Kenny) Peterson, Canton; sons, Herb (Jan) Mlenar, Spring
Valley, Don (Shirley) Mlenar, Spring Valley; step-son George Maurer, Minneapolis; five grandchildren; one
great-great-grandchild and 10 step-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one step-son, Robert Maurer; brothers,
Donald and Charles and one sister, Loretta.
Service: 1 p.m. Thursday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spring Valley with the Rev. Dennis
Timmerman officiating.
Visitation: Friends may call Wednesday at the Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. and one
hour at the church prior to the service.
Interment: A private burial service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.

Clara Elnora (Benson) Correy1905-2000
Clara Elnora Correy, 95, Austin, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at St.
Mark's Lutheran Home.
Clara was born Aug. 12, 1905, in Mower County, the daughter of William and Gertie (Anderson)
Benson. She was baptized, confirmed and was married to Raymond Z. Correy at the First Lutheran Church
in Blooming Prairie on May 28, 1928. They farmed in the Blooming Prairie area until buying a farm near
Waltham. In 1948 the Correys sold their farm and purchased a rooming house in Rochester, several years
later they sold that business and moved to Lansing where they build and operated the Correy Grocery for
16 years. Clara later went to work as a cook at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin and at a summer
camp as well. She retired on her 70th birthday. In retirement Clara lived in Lansing and Austin.
She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and playing cards. She was a member of St. Michaels Lutheran
Church, Waltham, where she was active in the Ladies Aide and quilting.
She is survived by her daughter, Elaine Colbenson, Edina; son, Roger Correy, Austin; two
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-
grandchildren; sister, Lillian Krahulek, Blooming Prairie; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters, husband Raymond and a
grandson.
Private graveside family services will be held at Grandview Cemetery with Chaplain Cathy Mannel
officiating.
Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Douglas R. Ziemer, 71, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Austin, died
Oct. 3, 2000.
He is survived by wife, Virginia; sons, David and Michael; sister, Mrs. Floyd Viall, Austin, brother,
Donald Ziemer, Fremont, Neb.

John L. Morgan 1912-2000
John L. Morgan, 88, of Austin, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at Prairie Manor
Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie.
John was born June 7, 1912, in Mason City, Iowa to Shadrach and Ida (Anderson) Morgan. He
attended Mason City Junior College and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1933 and the Harvard
Business School in 1935, receiving degrees in business administration. He married Margaret "Peg"
Laughlin on July 4, 1936.
John was branch manager for International Harvester Company for 12 years and sales manager for
Real Silk Company Inc. for 25 years, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, an avid reader with interests in sports and
politics. In his younger years, John was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and playing golf.
He is survived by his wife Peg Morgan, Austin; daughter and son-in-law, Anne (David) Baudler,
Piedmont, Calif.; son, Jack Morgan, Muskegon, Mich.; five grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruth Morgan and a granddaughter.
Service: A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Augustine Catholic Church
with Father Paul Nelson officiating.
Visitation: There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends
may call from 5 to 7 p.m. and also from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Interment: Elmwood Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa.
The family prefers memorials to St. Augustine Catholic Church or donor's choice.

Leone (Gordon) Erickson 1908-2000
Leone Erickson, age 92, formerly of Austin, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000,
at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in St. Paul.
She was born May 6, 1908, in Lehigh, Iowa to Frederick and Eva (Williams)
Gordon. After graduating from high school, Leone taught school in Mona,
Iowa. She married Arthur Dalager in 1937 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in
Austin. After Arthur's death on May 3, 1961, she attended nurses' training
and became a licensed practical nurse, working at St. Olaf Hospital.
She married Roy Erickson July 19, 1966. They traveled around the United
States for two years and settled in Mesa, Ariz., where they lived for 19
years. During this time she worked as an LPN. Roy died Sept. 1, 1991, and
Leone continued to live in Ariz. until 1992 when she moved to Austin. In
1996 she entered Burr Oak Manor and moved to Good Shepherd Care Center in
St. Paul on May 8, 2000.
Survivors include daughter Karen Lago of Boca Raton, Fla.; sons, Arthur Dalager of Minneapolis;
Dwayne (Dixie) Erickson of Apple Valley; Richard (Georgia) Erickson of Medford, Ore.; Ronald (LaVonne
"Bonnie") Erickson of New Brighton; daughter-in-law, Donna Peterson of Austin; many grandchildren and
great grandchildren; brothers, Frederick Gordon of Minneapolis; Don Gordon of California; sister, Doris
Williams of Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, son, Brad and a grandson.
Service: Memorial services will be held at St. Olaf Lutheran Church Friday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev.
James I. Mikkelson officiating.
There will be no visitation or reviewal.
Worlein Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Dorthea (Erickson) Mueller1910-2000
Dorthea L. Mueller, 90, formerly of Austin, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, in Pleasanton, Texas.
She was born Sept. 19, 1910, in Waltham, to John and Alice (Graham)
Erickson. Dorthea was raised in Waltham, and assisted her family at their
hardware store. She graduated from the University of Minnesota. She and
her husband Earl lived in Austin, then moved to Houston, Texas. They later
moved to Pleasanton, Texas. For several years, she was a volunteer at
Pleasanton Hospital Auxiliary gift shop. She also enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by her brother and sisters-in-law, Lowell and Alice Mueller, San Luis Obispo, Calif.,
Alice Mueller, Apple Valley; nieces, nephews, great- nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband and one sister.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Harold L. Usgaard
officiating.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery
Visitation: One hour before the service Thursday at the chapel.
