John J. Rauen1915-2000
John J. Rauen, 84, of Stacyville, Iowa, died suddenly of heart attack
Monday, August 7, 2000, at the home of his son James in Ridgway, Colorado.
John was born on October 14, 1915, in Stacyville the son of Matt and Emma
(Stieger) Rauen. He attended school in Johnsburg. He was married to Valeria
Janning on October 14, 1942, at Blooming Prairie. They farmed the family
homestead near Stacyville until 1981. John was a member of the Visitation
Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Forresters. John enjoyed visiting
with people and antique shopping.
He is survived by wife, Valeria Rauen, Stacyville; daughter, Katherine
(Richard) Engle, Mt. Vernon, Wash.; son, James Rauen (Kathy) Ridgeway, Colo.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha (Leo) Schneider, Adams, Margaret (William) Schneider, Adams, Ardela (Rueben) Gilles, Austin; sister-in-law, Rose Rauen, Stacyville; brother-in-law, Jacob Rothamel, Mason City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kenneth; brother, Art; sisters, Bernetta and Isabel.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with the Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating.
Interment: St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Johnsburg.
Visitation: 3:30 Friday in the church hall, at the Visitation Catholic Church where there will be a Catholic Order of Forresters Rosary at 4 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:30 p.m.
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home of Osage is in charge of arrangements.

Henry Runde 1938-2000
Henry "Hank" Runde, 61, of rural McIntire, Iowa, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at the Riceville Community Care Center where he had resided for one week.
He was born Dec. 21, 1938, in LeRoy to Paul and Elizabeth Runde. He attended country schools in the Oakdale area and later attended and graduated from LeRoy High School. He was united in marriage to Barbara King on Nov. 14, 1959, at Sacred heart Catholic Church in Adams. Together they farmed in the McIntire, Iowa area.
He is survived by his wife Barbara; sons, Mike (Deb) Runde, Tucson, Ariz., Dean (Sandy) Runde, LeRoy, Ron Runde, McIntire, Iowa, and David Runde, LeRoy; daughters, Sharon (Mike) Goldsmith, Rochester, Susan Runde, Rochester; six grandchildren; father, Paul Runde, LeRoy; brother, Ed (Corine) Runde, LeRoy; sisters, Elizabeth (Edward) Adams, Waverly, Iowa, Anna (Tom) Bonnette, Riceville, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his mother, son, Alan and an infant sister.
Service: A funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in LeRoy with the Rev. Father Russell Scepaniak officiating.
Interment: The church cemetery
Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in LeRoy where there will be a Rosary said at 7 p.m.
There will be no reviewal at the church prior to the service.

Jean Stephensond: 2000
Jean Terry Stephenson, age 82, originally of Austin, died in Santa
Barbara, Calif. July 29, 2000.
She is survived by her daughter, Terry Ann Stephenson, Aspen, Colorado
and brother, Richard Terry, Austin; nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no services in Austin.
Memorials are preferred to the Anne Carlson Center for Children in
Jamestown, N.D.

Paul Hallman1921-2000
Paul R. Hallman, age 79, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died on
Tuesday, August 8, 2000, at his home.
Paul was born on February 24, 1921, in Austin to Claud and Ellen
(Anderson) Hallman. In 1948 he was married to Marge Snyder. Paul served in
World War II as a captain in the Army Air Corps and a C47 pilot in the South
Pacific. He retired as a Lt. Colonel in the Air Force Reserve and returned
to Austin in 1949. Paul was employed as a mechanic at Hormel Foods Corp.
until his retirement in 1982. He served over 40 years in the VFW Color Guard
and was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW. Paul enjoyed
gardening and fishing. Iris Hackensmith was his very special friend and
companion.
Survivors include his sons and a daughter-in-law, Rick Hallman,
Minneapolis, Wayne and Kathy Hallman, Palace Verdes Estates, Calif.; a
brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Shirley Hallman, McAllen, Texas;
four sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois and Charles Voogd, Austin, Donna
and Alfred Simon, Austin, Virginia Wilson, Austin, Barb and Larry Young,
Austin; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claud and Ellen Hallman; three
brothers, Ralph, Harry and Richard Hallman; three sisters, Ruth Hallman,
Hellen Swingen and Marion Hallman.
Service: 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Kronen officiating.
Interment: will be in Cedar City Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post NO. 91 and VFW Post No. 1216. The casket bearers will be Charles Voogd, Jean Ball, Ryan Ball, Sheryl Ball, Brian Bailey and Rodney Bailey.
Visitation: 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday and also one hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Thursday

Arlene J. (Christenson) Fisher1928-2009
Arlene Joyce (Christenson) Fisher, age 80, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, passed away at St. Marys Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer, on April 20, 2009, surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 12, 1928, to Milo and Alice (Tangen) Christenson in Ostrander, Minnesota. She spent her childhood on the family farm in Ostrander and enjoyed a close and lifelong relationship with her loving family. Arlene graduated from the Spring Valley High School in 1946 and was united in marriage to Jack Fisher on March 1, 1951.
Throughout her life, Arlene has always had a compassion for children and the elderly. She tenderly cared for both her mother-in-law and mother in their later years. She was employed by Green Thumb, where she provided childcare services and worked at the senior center.
Arlene's greatest joy in life was to be surrounded by her family. She spent a lifetime celebrating Christmases and annual summer picnics with her siblings and their families. She also delighted in having her children grandchildren and great-grandchildren come and visit. She would bustle around making coffee, serving cookies, popcorn and ice cream and doing everything in her power to ensure that each guest was comfortable and well-fed.
Arlene is survived by her children, James (Betty) L. Fisher, Austin; Sharon (Dan) Zika, International Falls, Minn., Vicki Fisher, Austin, Nancy (Mike) Johnson, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Carolyn Able, Austin, David (Cindy) Fisher, International Falls; 15 grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; brothers and sisters, Merlin (Jackie) Christenson, Ostrander, Minn., Cleone Schula, Rochester, Minn., Dale (Patty) Christenson, Rochester, Kermit (Jean) Fisher, Pine Island, Minn., Ruby (Larry) Holsapple, Bloomington, Minn., Priscilla (Doug) Rownd, Oronoco, Minn., Linda (Doug) Johnson, Rochester, Barbara (Gene) Golenzer, Rochester; aunt, Ruth Cooper, Marshall, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Irene Fisher, Rochester, Phyllis MacIntosh, Owatonna, Minn.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one granddaughter, Jenny Ruth Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, April 24, 2009 at Cornerstone Church with the Reverend Michael Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and for one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Casket bearers will be Zachary Johnson, Caleb Johnson, Ryan Anderson, Jordan Anderson, Luke Zika and John Kohtz.

Kenneth P. Locke1912-2000
Kenneth P. Locke, 87, Austin, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Comforcare Good Samaritian Center in Austin.
He was born Sept. 9, 1912 in Clear Lake, Iowa to Carl and Mary (Christianson) Locke. He was employed by the George A. Hormel Co. for 32 years and retired in 1975. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Austin Eagles Club.
He is survived by daughter, Judith Harding, Arlington Heights, Ill., son and daughter-in-law, John and Sharon Locke, Frankfort, Ill.; five grandchildren; two great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and mother of his children, Norma Bonita Locke 1954, and second wife Bernice (Zupp) Locke 1993.
Service: 2 p.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church, the Rev. Harold Deye officiating. Organist will be Judy Stark. Soloist will be Erin Schumacher.
Interment: Grandview Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Max Teff, Fritz Warner, Joe Klimczak, Dan Simmons, Jared Locke.
Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

Luella Crosby1905-2000
Luella O. Crosby, age 94, died on Sunday, August 6, 2000, Sacred Heart
Care Center.
She was born October 16, 1905 in Chatfield where she lived until 1930
and then moved to Austin after her marriage to E. Allan Crosby on June 14,
1930 where she lived the remainder of her life.
Luella was a school teacher for six years, an employee at Hormel Food Corp. for 12 years and a homemaker after that.
She was a member of St. Olaf Church women's circle and the Austin Garden Club.
She is survived by a son, Charles (Nancy) Crosby, Austin; grandson;
granddaughter; two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Allan; niece, Rosemary Ruzek
Service: 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Olaf Church in the church Westby Chapel with Pastor Harold Usgaard officiating.
Interment: Chosen Valley Cemetery, Chatfield
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Worlein Funeral Home and one hour before service at the church in Westby Chapel.

Orville Sauer1922-2000
Orville "Bud" H. Sauer, age 78, died on Monday, August 7, 2000, at the
Albert Lea Medical Center after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Orville was born March 8, 1922, in Walters, the son of Vern and Clara
(Enser) Sauer. He attended school in Walters through eighth grade and was
a 1939 graduate of Alden High School.
On April 29, 1943, Orville married Leona Schaudt in Walters. He was
honorably discharged from the Navy where he had served from 1945 to 1946.
He did radio and TV repair and had worked for Bailey Electric, Gordon's and
Dickerman's retiring in 1986. His hobbies included gardening, traveling,
and working crossword puzzles. He was an avid reader. Orville's life
centered around his family.
Orville is survived by his wife, Leona, Albert Lea; children, Kathleen
(Veryl) Schewe, Alden, Roxanne (George) Koolmo, Champlin, Carla (Charles)
Granholm, Austin, John Sauer, St. Paul; five grandsons; three great-grandsons;
brothers and sisters, Verneta (Ralph) Reindal, Alden, Betty (Francis) Kalis,
Albert Lea, Ralph Sauer, Madison Lake, Barb (Wayne) Enderson, Tyler, Clair
(Lois) Sauer; two sisters-in-law, Virginia (Orville) Hoeg, Albert Lea, and
Maxine (Howard) Sweet of Albert Lea; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son in infancy; son-in-law,
John Duggan.
Service: 1:30 Thursday at Salem Lutheran Church, Albert Lea with the
Rev. Jerry Merkouris officiating.
Interment: Alden Cemetery with military honors by the Albert Lea
Veteran's organization.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one
hour before the service at the church.

Evelyn Morrison1927-2000
Evelyn Mary Morrison, age 73, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Sunday,
August 6, 2000 at the Austin Medical Center
She was born on January 29, 1927, in Austin to Everett and Mary
(Christensen) Staley.
Evelyn graduated from Austin High School in 1945. She married Robert A. Morrison on May 16, 1953, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Together they lived in Austin where she made her home taking care of her husband and children. She worked at the Mower county Courthouse in the probate office for 13 years. She was a charter member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Evelyn always made people smile. She loved to visit with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband Robert A. Morrison, Austin; daughter, Mary E. Eriksson, Scottsdale, Ariz.; son and daughter-in-law, Mark R. and Jill M. Morrison, Austin; granddaughter; grandson; sister, Dorothy (Staley) Sundt, Burnsville; many nieces , nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by parents, brother Donald E. Staley.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with the Rev. Klenn L. Monson officiating. Organist will be Ruth Monson. Music will be by Kelly Jones, Erin Kroc, and Lindsey Kroc.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery. Casket bearers will be John Sundt, Donald Sundt, James Staley, Mitchell Morrison, Vince Cullen and William Morrison.

Keith Allen Ingvalson1948-2000
Keith Allen Ingvalson, age 52, Rochester, Mower county, Minnsota, died on
Monday, August 7, 2000, at Prairie Manor Nursing Home.
Keith was born on February 18, 1948, at Austin, the son of Burton I. and
Signe (Tollefson) Ingvalson. He graduated from Blooming Prairie High School
in 1966 and attended the Austin Community College. He had a successful
career as a sales representative in automobile and recreational vehicle
sales in the Rochester and Austin areas. He was a member of the Red Oak
Grove Lutheran Church and the Eagles. He was an avid sports enthusiast;
he particularly enjoyed golf, pool, and fishing.
He is survived by his parents, Burton and Signe Ingvalson, Austin;
brothers and sisters-in-law, Brian and Lezlie Ingvalson, Minnetonka, Robert
and Barb Ingvalson, Richfield; niece, Karla Ingvalson; nephews, aunts,
uncles and cousins.
Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Red Oak Grove Church. Organist will be
Effie Tollefson.
Interment: Red Oak Grove Cemetery. Honorary bearers will be William

Dale Nathan Conklin1928-2000
Dale Nathan Conklin, 72, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died of
cancer on Thursday, August 3, 2000, at his home.
He was born March 16, 1928, in Mower County, the son of Melvin and Cora
(Hubbard) Conklin. He graduated from Austin High School in 1946 and served
in the Marine Corps until he was honorably discharged in 1949.
He married Betty Kjensmo on June 18, 1950, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church,
Austin.
He retired from Hormel Foods Corp. in 1984.
He was a member of the Izaak Walton League's Austin chapter, which presented him with the Tobin Award for his service, the Cedar Valley Conservation Club, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Austin YMCA, Freeborn-Mower Habitat for Humanity and St. Olaf Lutheran Church, where he assisted with Dorcas and Mower County Fair projects. Mr. Conklin and his wife, Betty, were instrumental in starting the Southern Minnesota chapter of PFLAG.
He enjoyed the outdoors, trout fishing, canoeing and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Conklin, Austin; children, Daniel S. Conklin, Waterloo, Iowa, Debra and Daniel Pinger, Batavia, Ohio, Lori Walker, Eden Prairie, Tim Conklin and Jiwan Bajracharya, Vancouver, B.C.; mother, Cora Conklin; six grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Muriel and Lee Kasten, Babbit, Alice McGuire, Zimmerman; an aunt, June Nelson, Owatonna; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin A. Conklin.
Service: 10 a.m. Monday at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, with Olaf B. Damm Post No. 1216 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post No. 91 performing military rites. A memorial service will follow interment at 11 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Austin, with the Rev. Kristin K. Wee, Pastor Paul A. Tidemann and pastoral minister Anita C. Hill officiating.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery.

Shari grew up in Austin.
Shari DeBoer is survived by husband Tebbe, sons Jacob, Zachary, and
Samuel all of Dundas, sisters Dorene Wilke of San Diego, Jan Williams
and husband David of Burnsvile, Lori Brody, Austin; brothers, Richard

He was born July 24, 1945, in Austin. Roger was a hydrologist/limnologist
for the US Army Corps of Engineers for 26 years.
He was a U.S. Army Special Forces (Green Beret) Viet Nam War Veteran.
Survivors include son, Darin Myhre of Waterloo, Illinois; two step
daughters, Lisa Hippard of Millstadt, Illinois, Linda Bub of Lonedell, Mo.;
Ann Myhre, Waterloo, Illinois; mother, Melba Myhre of Austin; three brothers,

Wednesday, July 26, 2000.
Irene was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Hays in Austin, Mower county,
Minnesota, on Feb. 14, 1912. She married Homer Kirkpatrick in 1937.
In 1950 they moved to the Grande Ronde Valley.
She was a past member of the Presbyterian Church in La Grande, Oregon, and
Austin. Irene loved gardening, reading romance novels and camping.
Irene is survived by daughters, Carol Veach of Los Angeles, Calif.,
Ruth Alma, Pendleton, Oregon; son John Kirkpatrick, Elgin, Oregon; five

Shane L. Wilde1985-2000
Shane L. Wilde, 15, of 507 13th Ave. SW, Austin, died Thursday, July 27 at his home.
Shane was born Feb. 7, 1985 in Austin to Gary and Marsha (Feeley) Wilde. He was going to be attending Austin High School in the fall. Shane loved to be on the computer, drawing to express his feelings and was building a stock car with his dad. If he wasn't busy with that he was helping his special friends with theirs.
Survivors include his parents, Gary and Marsha Wilde, Austin; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Misty and Jason Angermeier, Watertown, Mandy Wilde, Austin; nephew, Tyler David Wilde, Austin; grandmother, Hazel Rohde, Austin; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Bill and Marjorie Wilde; great grandparents, Mike and Alvina Feeley.

George Gulbrandsen1915-2000
George N. Gulbrandsen, 85, Austin, died Friday, July 28, 2000, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 22, 1915, in Canton, S.D. to George and Judith (Sogn) Gulbrandsen. George graduated from high school in Brookings, S.D. and then received his college degree from South Dakota State University. He married Fern Hillestad on Aug. 31, 1940. George served in the Navy from 1943-1946. He began working for Hormel Foods for about 35 years retiring in December of 1974. During his retirement George was involved with SCORE which helped small businesses. He also loved woodworking. George made most of his furniture in his house and also made toys and desks for his grandsons. He liked to make little boxes and chests for himself and friends. George also loved to play golf. He played regularly with his golf buddies at the Austin Country Club. George was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and the Masonic Lodge No.39 AF&AM.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Gail and Gary Solberg, Grand Forks, N.D.; two grandsons, Eric Solberg and Tim Solberg, Grand Forks, N.D.; sister-in-law, Dolly Hillestad, Brooking, S.D.; nieces, nephew and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Fern Gulbrandsen.
Service: A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. Don Deines officiating.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery
There will be no reviewal

Etta Svenson 1901-2000
Etta Svenson, 99, of Austin died Monday, July 31, 2000 at Sacred Heart Care Center.
She was born April 27, 1901 to Henry and Anna (Boelman) Oudekerk in Holland and immigrated to the United States at the age of eleven, settling in Parkersburg, Iowa. The family lived in Iowa for four years before moving to Mower County. On Oct. 25, 1919, Etta married Sven Olof Svenson. Following their marriage, the couple lived south of Austin. Sven died on May 17, 1969. After his death Etta moved into Austin, entering Sacred Heart Care Center on Jan. 21, 1999.
Survivors include one daughter, Matilda "Tillie" and Richard Kelly of Florence, Ariz.; one son, Alvin and Evelyn Svenson of Austin; one daughter-in-law, Phyllis Svenson of Austin; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Larson of Tacoma, Wash. and Anna and Clifford Brown of Philip, S.D.; two brothers, Wallace Oudekerk of Mountain Home, Ark. and Walter Oudekerk of Austin; one sister-in-law, Frieda Oudekirk of Brownsdale, and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Anna Penkava; one son, Henry Svenson; two grandsons, Roger Svenson and Robert Svenson and eight brothers and sisters.
Service: 10:30 a.m., Thursday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin with Pastor Randy Petersen officiating.
Interment: Rose Creek Enterprise Cemetery.
Visitation: Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Worlein Funeral Home and one hour before the service on Thursday.

Larry S. Daigneau1919-2009
Larry S. Daigneau, age 89, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died on April 22, 2009 at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center in Austin.
He was born on August 22, 1919 in Austin, to Don and Claire (Sleeper) Daigneau. Larry graduated from Austin High School and was married to Elizabeth Joan Bondhus on July 9, 1945 in Austin. He was the Navy Reserve Flight Instructor at Albert Lea, Minn. and then the manager of the Austin Airport. He began selling cars at Usems Chevrolet and later became the sales manager until his retirement. Among his hobbies, Larry enjoyed collecting, flying, golfing and fishing. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Austin Country Club and the Austin Elks Club.
Larry is survived by his spouse, Elizabeth Joan Daigneau, Austin; daughter, Patricia Joan Daigneau McKelvey, Daly City, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his patents and a brother, Don R. Daigneau.
A private graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.
Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Elsie (Weikum) Flaherty 1915-2009
Elsie Flaherty, 93, of Austin, died on April 22, 2009 at Austin Medical Center. She was born May 18, 1915 to William and Katherine (Heckenliable) Weikum in Virgil, S.D. where she grew up and graduated, valedictorian, from high school in 1934.
She married Leslie Flaherty on Feb. 26, 1938 in Osage, Iowa. They made their home in Austin and in 1946 moved to a farm east of Austin where they raised five children. Elsie worked with Leslie on the farm and loved gardening. Members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Elsie enjoyed playing cards and reading. Elsie was a member of the Cedars Kitchen Band. Leslie passed away in 1994. Elsie moved to the Pickett Place in 2001 where she resided until the time of her death.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary (Fred) Ware, Maylene, Ala.; Paulette Carew, Austin; two sons, Leslie (Barbara) Flaherty, Oshkosh, Wis.; Daniel Flaherty, Austin; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Christina Kelch, Austin; Marie Roberts, Medford, Ore.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Laverne Strey, Bird Island; sister-in-law, Blanch LaBlanc, Seattle, Wash.; son-in-law, James Seufert, Brooklyn Park; brother-in-law, Gerry Hanson, Shadow Hills, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie; daughter, Jeanne Seufert; five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is in charge of arrangements. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.
Memorials are preferred to donors choice.

Edward Gustaf Boettcher, age 91, of 700 N.W. 1st Dr. Austin, died
Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Burr Oak Manor in Austin.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Harlan and Eileen Lysne,
Austin, John Lysne, Austin, Brian and LaDonna Boettcher, Mankato, Gary and
Donna Boettcher, Bullhead City, Ariz. Michael Boettcher, Austin; daughter
and son-in-law, Kristi and Richard Tracy, Austin; 15 grandchildren; 16
great grandchildren brother John Boettcher; sister, Martha Boettcher,
both of Pierre, S.D.; nieces, nephew and cousins.
Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with
the Rev. James I. Mikkelson officiating.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery

Charles W. Hudson1919-1999
RADIO AND TV ANNOUNCER
Charles W. "Bill" Hudson, of Rochester, Minnesota, died on March 30, 1999
following a short illness at St. Mary's Hospital.
He was born Nov. 4, 1919 and raised in Duncan, Oklahoma. He married Eleanor
Beth Stowe on April 18, 1944 at Washington, D.C. He graduated from Duncan High
School and Hills Business College, Oklahoma City, Okla. in 1936. He joined the
Navy in March 1942 and served as Chief Petty Officer aboard the USS St. Paul
until his discharge in 1946. He then joined IBM in St. Louis, Mo, transferring
to Kansas City, Mo, then to Rochester in 1956. He was a manager in Personnel
Services.
He worked for KROC radio and TV from 1970-73 in news and sports. In 1973
he transferred to KAUS radio in Austin then to KAAL-TV Austin as news anchor
until he retired in 1981. He was invited to return to KAAL-TV for one year
in 1986. He umpired baseball in both little league and Southern Minnesota
League. He and Bernie Lusk co-broadcasted John Marshall High School football
and Minnesota Gopher football. He was a member of VFW Post 1215, American
Legion, Masonic Lodge of Independence, Mo., and past member of BPOE Elks
Lodge. he enjoyed golf, senior bowling, and volunteer work for the VFW.
He is survived by his wife Eleanor; daughters Janet Kay (Mrs Roy)
Stevenson, Rochester, Judy Lynn (Mrs. Darryl) Moyer, Rochester; 13
grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren.
Service: 1 p.m. Friday, April 2, at Meadow Park Church of Christ
with the Rev. Ron Wernimont officiating.
Interment: Grandview Memorial Gardens
Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday (April 1) at Macken Funeral
Home also one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

Caroline Durben1911-1999
Caroline Durben, 87, a resident of St. Mark's Lutheran Home, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999 at the Austin Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 24, 1911 at home in Johnsburg in Adams Township to Anton and Kate (Adams) Mullenbach. Caroline was only three pounds at birth, her loving parents placed her in a shoe box and kept her warm in the oven. She enjoyed growing up in the country on a farm with her brothers, sisters and cousins nearby. She enjoyed picking and eating blackberries in the nearby woods. As a young adult Caroline was a housekeeper for Mr. and Mrs. Nicolson of Austin. She and Stanley Durben were married August 31, 1943 at St. Augustine Catholic Church. As a young couple they enjoyed dancing at the Oasis and dining out with friends.
Fifty years ago, Stan and Caroline built a two car garage with and apartment above, south on Highway 105, and started an auto repair and gas station business. The business grew and developed into over-the-road truck repair and sales. There they raised three sons and a daughter. She enjoyed holidays by preparing all the traditional foods for family and friends. She was a member of St. Beatrice/St. Patrick Unit and Rosary Council. Party line Club and Girls' birthdays gave her opportunities to play 500, which was a passion she enjoyed up to the time of her death.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law Donna (David) Schieck, Waltham; three sons Silvan Durben, Austin, LaVern Durben, Minneapolis, Donald Durben, Austin; a sister Malinda (Tong) Schultz, Thorp, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Christina Mullenback, Adams, rose Mullenbach, Osage, Iowa.
She is preceded in death by Stanley P. Durben on Feb. 19, 1999; three sisters, Hilda Mullenbach, Clara Wehner and Celesta Juenger; three brothers, Vincent Mullenbach, Clemens Mullenbach and Ernest Mullenbach.
Casket bearers will be Todd Alger, Jay Alger, Dan Braaten, Teresa Bratsch, Frances DeBoer Mark Durben, Honorary casket bearers will be Lucille Braaten and Gene Wehner.
Service: A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 5, 1999 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating.
Interment: Calvary Cemetery
Visitation: There will be a 4 p.m. CCW Rosary and a 7 p.m. wake service on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4-8 p.m. and also from 9-10 a.m. on Monday.

Ted E. Colescott, age 96, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died on
April 1, 1999 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Ted G. and Kathryn N. Colescott,
Rochester; daughter and son-in-law Gwen C. and John E. Mullen, Alexandria,
Va.; four grandchildren; sister, Sydney Colescott, Kokomo, Ind.; many nieces
and nephews.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 5th at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Patricia M. Toschak and Rev. Becky Jo Thilges officiating.

Amreta Mary (Trembley) Joel, 79 of 1803 5th Ave. S.W., died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at her home.
She was born Sept. 24, 1919, in Delavan to Ira and Marie (Willette) Trembley.
On Feb. 20, 1939, she married Noble Fred Joel at Delavan and the couple moved to Austin in 1943.
Survivors include her husband, Noble Fred Joel, Sr., Austin; sons and daughters-in-law, Noble Fred Jr. and Ann Joel, Chattanooga, Tenn., Maurice and Pat Joel, Mankato, Edward and Sue Joel, North Platte, Neb., David and Debra Joel, Austin; daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Larry Clark, Austin, Sharon and Bob Bednar, Austin, Suzanne and Bruce Vaith, Manchester, Renae and mark Raimann, Austin; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Frances Dunn, Fairmont, Doris Pahl, Blue Earth, Sister M. Rochelle, Mankato; brothers, Paul Trembley, Austin; step-mother, Rose Trembley; three half sisters, a half-brother and a step-brother.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, a sister, Jeanette, and a grandson, Daniel Joe.
Service: 1 p.m. Monday, April 5, 1999, funeral Mass at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Austin, with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Casket bearers will be grandsons, Robert Rice, Jr., Bret Joel, Thomas Bednar, Craig Joel, Tony Bednar, Jeremy Joel and Joshua Joel.

morning at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Elsie Schieck Schulz1906-1999
Elsie H. Schulz, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died Wednesday,
March 31, 1999 at Bear Creek Rehab Center in Rochester.
She was born August 19, 1906 to Carl and Augusta Schieck. She was
baptized August 26, 1906 at Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church by a
Pastor Hitzman near Lewiston. When she was eight months old, her parents
immigrated to Almont, N.D., where they took up a homestead. She went to
instructions at an Evangelical Lutheran Church near Judson, N.D. was
confirmed Nov. 20, 1921, by The Rev. Ralph Schwicht.
In 1927 she moved back to the Waltham area where she became a member of
Trinity Lutheran Church. she was married to Ernest Schulz Sept. 26, 1928.
She became a member of the Ladies Aid soon after marriage and remained a
member throughout her life. She sang in the choir for 25 years, taught
Sunday School for many years as well as Vacation Bible School.
Survivors include daughter, Lorraine (Mrs. Lowell) Fahrman, Rochester,
Helen (Mrs. John) Wassel, Miami, Fla., Arlene (Mrs. E.R. Greenthaners, Tucson, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren; three sister, Gertrude Ahrens, Indianapolis, Ind., Adelaide Dorn, Lewiston, Pauline Holle, New Salem, N.D.,; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, one sister, and one grandchild.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church of Waltham with The Rev John F. Perling officiating.
Interment: at the church cemetery
Visitation: Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Sunday and at the church one hour before the service.

Mable M. Srsen, age 88, of Route 1, Blooming Prairie, died Wednesday
afternoon, March 31, at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin.

Blooming Prairie; daughters and sons-in-law, Delores and Victor Wanous,
Owatonna, Marlys and Sylvester Wencl, Owatonna, Barbara and Jim Klecker,
Owatonna; ten grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 1999 at Holy Trinity Catholic church
at Litomysl with Father Michael Ruthenberg officiating.
Interment: National Bohemian Cemetery of Blooming Prairie.
Visitation: Friends may call at Blooming Prairie Funeral Home from 3-8
p.m. on Monday, April 5, 1999 and at the church one hour before the service.

ROSE CREEK, MINN - Graveside services for Lester L. Johnson, 81, of East
Olympia, Washington, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Enterprise Cemetery in
Rose Creek.
He died May 20, 1995, in Olympia, Wash. He is the husband of the former
Grace "Tinker" Morgan, who is from Austin.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, a daughter, a son, six grandchildren,
two great-grandchildren, three sisters and a brother.
