Adeline F. Carothers 1917-1998
AUSTIN, Minn. — Adeline F. Carothers, 81, of 1903 Burr Oak Dr., Unit A.,
Austin, died Tuesday (July 14, 1998) at the Austin Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, in Austin, with the Rev. James I. Mikkelson officiating.
There will be a 3 p.m. graveside service at Concord Township Cemetery,
in Garner. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary,
209 Second Ave. N.W., Austin, Minn., and one hour prior to services at the
church. Memorials are preferred to Donors Choice.
Adeline was born on April 25, 1917, to the Rev. Herman and Caroline
(Haberkamp) Greimann in Dale, Wis. She graduated from Garner High School
in 1935. She went to Waldorf College in Forest City from 1935-1936 and
then taught in a rural school from 1936-1938.
She married Charles D. Carothers on June 19, 1938, and moved to Austin,
Minn.
She attended Winona State College and then graduated from Mankato State
College with a bachelors degree in science. She then taught in the rural
schools of Hollandale, Brownsdale, Blooming Prairie and then 21 years in
the Austin Public Schools and retired in 1977. She and Charles then moved
to Lake Mills, and later moved back to Austin in the early 1980's.
She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School
there. She loved her family and friends, and held close in her heart the
students she taught in elementary and special education classes. Her hobbies
included reading and gardening.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Carol Carothers, Owatonna, Minn.; Jim and Linda Carothers, of Johnston, Iowa; and daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Bob Peters, of Harmony, Minn.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Charlotte and Leonard Swanson, of Austin, Minn., and Dorothy and Norman Anderson, of Ventura, Iowa; brothers and sisters-in-law, Curtis and Ruth Greimann, of Garner, Iowa, and Eugene and Doris Greimann, of Garner, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Carothers on Sept. 22, 1996; her parents and a granddaughter, Faith Casterton.

Sylvester "Sal" Espe1917-2009
Sylvester “Sal” Espe, age 91, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died at Austin
Medical Center on April 13, 2009.
He was born on November 28, 1917 to Nels and Bessie (Howell) Espe in
Duncan, Iowa. He was inducted to the Army in 1941, serving in the Third
Armor Division during World War II. He landed on Omaha Beach and fought
in the Battle of the Bulge, European Campaign with five combat stars and
a victory citation. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and
Presidential Citation. He married Dorothy Armbrust on Aug. 2, 1945 in
Austin where they made their home. A 45 year employee of Hormel Foods
Corp., Sal was vice president of the P-9 Union and served as a delegate
to the National Convention.
A member of American Legion, VFW, DAV, Crane Community Chapel and Austin
Township Board president, he entertained with his band at seven nursing homes
each month and on the Family Hour with Pastor Joe Matt. He sold Buddy Poppies
and forget-me-nots for disabled veterans and veterans hospitals. He enjoyed
fishing with his family and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Espe, Austin; son, Larry (Nancy) Espe,
Zimmerman, Minn.; two daughters, Nancy (Kenny Voss) Logue, Sherrard, Illinois,
Mary Jane Nitichenko, Billings, Mont.; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Mark,
Ashley, Dale, Brandon, Katheran, Mary, Maria and Mikel; eight
great-grandchildren; sisters, Evangeline Reiman, St. Francis; Alice
(Harold) Wiste, Adams; two brothers, Leonard (Janet) Espe, Austin; Paul
(Helen) Espe, Quincy, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; seven siblings, Raymond,
Richard, Ernest, Annabelle, Dorothy, Donna and Elizabeth.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2009 at
Crane Community Chapel in Austin with Pastor Dale Christiansen officiating.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday at Worlein Funeral Home, Austin,
and at the church one hour prior to the service. The organist will be Joyce
Fawver. Casketbearers will be Richard Peterson, Matt Logue, Mark Logue,
Kenny Voss, Sterling Boysen, Vern Dunham. Interment is at Oakwood Cemetery,
Austin with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 1216. Memorials are preferred to the Honor Flight, the
Austin D.A.V., and Crane Community Chapel.

Mark C. Schaefer1957-2009
Mark C. Schaefer, 52, of Loves Park, died unexpectedly from a heart
attack on April 9, 2009 in his home.
Born March 12, 1957 in Austin, the son of Orin and Marjorie (Kiewatt)
Schaefer. He married Denise Montgomery on August 7, 1982. Mark worked at
Ingersoll as a machinist for 25 years. He enjoyed fishing, playing softball
and bowling and was an avid Vikings fan.
Survivors include his children, Andrew Schaefer, DeKalb, Illinois and
Kara Schaefer, Salt Lake City, Utah; sisters, Ann (Danny) Lee and Karen
(Tim) Davidson both of Austin; wife, Denise Schaefer; nieces, nephews,
aunts and uncles.
He was preceded by his parents.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2009 in
Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd. Rockford, Illinois. Funeral
services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2009, in the funeral
home. Graveside services at 11 a.m. on Saturday April 18, 2009 in Oakwood
Cemetery in Austin, Mower county, Minnesota.

Stuart Gene Skov1946-1999
Stuart Gene Skov, 52, of Route 2, Austin, died early Wednesday morning, June 30, 1999, at Austin Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on October 9, 1946 in Austin to William and Leona (Johnson) Skov. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle where he was a lifelong member. He attended District 10 Gregg School and graduated from Lyle High School in 1964. He attended Austin junior College for two years and then was inducted into the Army in May of 1966. He was stationed in Korea at the 38th parallel for one year. After dicharge from the Army he attended and graduated from Mankato State University with a BS degree in accounting.
He was the third generation to work the family farm. He was also gambling manager for the Lyle Legion and very active in Legion activities. He was a loving, kind, gentle man who had many lifelong friends. He had a great love for golf and loved to play golf and pool with his friends. He cared deeply about his family and was always willing to lend a helping h and. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
He is survived by two sisters and brother-in-law, Marlys and Rod Golberg, and Shirley Burney; by two brothers and sister-in-law, Roger and Cynthia Skov, and Eugene Skov all of Austin; by uncles Gordon (Ruth) Johnson, Austin, and Art Johnson, Hastings; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Gene Burney.
Casket bearers are: Brad Golberg, Todd Golberg, David Martin, Arlin Sawyer, Marty Olson, and Bill Haney. Honorary bearers are: Wayne Skov, Bob Nelson, Ernie Hallback, Burley (David) Olson, Ruth Johnson, Gordon Johnson, Bill Smith, Tony Burney, and Julie Burney.
Service: 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, 1999, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Lyle, with Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea and Rev. Harold Luecke officiating.
Interment: Rose Creek Enterprise Cemetery with military rites by Lyle Legion Post 105.
Visitation: Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and at the church one hour before the service on Friday.
The family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society.

Marcella Marie (nee King) MURPHY 1927-1999

AUSTIN, MINNESOTA -- The funeral for Marcella Marie Murphy will be at
10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peters Catholic Church in Rose Creek with the
Rev. Rubin Spinler officiating. Burial will be in Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle
Township, Mower County, Minnesota.
Mrs. Murphy, 71, of Austin, a longtime Lyle-area farm homemaker, died
Saturday (June 12, 1999) at Rochester Methodist Hospital.
Marcella Marie King was born September 1, 1927, in Riceville, Iowa. On
October 17, 1945, she married Loren Murphy at Queen of Angels Catholic
Church in Austin. They farmed near Lyle for 53 years before moving to St.
Mark's Apartments in Austin last year.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Thomas of Austin, David and
Dean of Rose Creek, and Chris of Waseca, Minnesota; two daughters, Mary
Murphy of Zimmerman, Minnesota, and Julie (Mrs. Gary) Frein of Grand Meadow,
Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandson; her mother, Eva (Johnson)
King of Austin; two brothers, Marrald King of Elma, Iowa, and Melvin King
of Austin; and three sisters, Vesta Bergland and Wilma Bell, both of Austin,
Minnesota, and Irene Weber of Le Roy.
She was preceded in death by her father, a sister and infant twin
great-grandsons.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary
in Austin where the rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and there will be
a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.

Adolph Francis Huinker1926-2009
Adolph Francis Huinker, age 82, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, passed
away on April 18, 2009 at St Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Adolph was born Aug. 10, 1926 to Anthony and Christina Huinker in Fort
Atkinson Iowa. His family later moved to Austin. When Adolph was 16 he
entered the US Navy and served 6 years during World War II. He retired from
Hormel after 35 years but continued working part time, most recently as a
security guard for Securitas at Hormel. Adolph was a member of the American
Legion since leaving the Navy and a life member of the VFW.
For over 40 years he was active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles serving
locally as President for three years and nine years as Secretary. He also
held offices on the district and state level for many years. Adolph enjoyed
spending time with his family. He loved to golf and continued to play until
80 years of age. He was a generous and kind man and will be missed by all
his loved ones.
He is survived by his wife Ethel; five children, Vic Hill, Austin,
(Kathy) Huinker, Knoxville Tenn., Barb (John) Heerema, Owatonna, Minn.,
Dawn (Dennis) Dobbs, Boaz, Wis., Marcia (Daniel) Dobbs, Muscoda, Wis.;
grandchildren, Michelle Norton, Thomas Dobbs, Jesse Kottner, Cheryl Dobbs,
Jason Dobbs, Nikki Gleash, Alysha Heerema, Ashley Heerema, Chelsie Dobbs;
10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Hildegard Golden and Rosemary Cook.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy O’Connor and four
brothers and three sisters.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21,
2009 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating.
Friends may call one hour before the service at the church. Military rites
will be by American Legion Post #91. Arrangements by Mayer Funeral Home.

Richard Lee Salisbury1947-2009
Richard Lee Salisbury, age 62 of Austin died at Park Health and Rehab
Center in St. Louis Park, Minn. Wednesday morning, April 15, 2009.
Richard was born Jan. 19, 1947 to Clifford B. and Ruth (Marshall)
Salisbury in Austin. He graduated from Lyle High School in 1965.
Rick served in the Vietnam Conflict from October 15, 1965 until October
14, 1968. After his discharge with a rank of E-6, he moved to Indiana to
live for several years before returning to Minnesota.
He made his home in Austin where he shared ownership in Bo-De Sales.
He enjoyed gathering with friends and working with his hands on wood and
metal. When his children were young, he enjoyed spending weekends at Lake
Cumberland.
Survivors include a son, Jason Salisbury, Dillsboro, Ind.; a
daughter, Deanna Sizemore, Greendale, Ind.; five grandchildren;
three great-grandchildren, brother, Donald (Nancy) Salisbury, Rudd,
Iowa; sister, Catherine (John) Fletcher, St. Peter, Minn.; and his
second wife, Glenna Gulley, Aurora, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Linda; a
daughter, Misty Ann; and a son, Michael.
Worlein Funeral Home, Austin, in charge of arrangements. Upon
Richard’s request, his body was cremated, and no services will be
held at this time.

Gladys M. (Quant) Draheim1913-1999
Gladys M. Draheim, 86, of Owatonna, formerly of Austin, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999 at Cedarview Nursing Home.
She was born on September 23, 1913 in Pleasant Valley, Minnesota, the daughter of August and Amanda (Schuelke) Quandt. Gladys grew up in Rochester where she graduated from High School. She went on to receive her Teacher's Degree from Winona Normal School. After receiving her teaching degree she taught full time in a one room rural school in Pleasant Valley, Minn. She married Edmund Draheim June 26, 1937 in Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church, Pleasant Valley, Minn. The couple moved to Austin following their marriage where she was a substitute teacher. The couple lived in Austin until 1997 when they moved to Mankato before moving to Owatonna in 1999. Gladys was very active in St. John Lutheran Church in Austin where she served on Ladies Aid from 1939-1997, taught vacation bible school, enjoyed reading, crocheting, embroidering, playing cards and cooking.
She is survived by her husband Edmund Draheim of Owatonna; sons Edmund D. and Jan Draheim, Owatonna, Charles and Peggy Draheim, Mankato, and David Draheim, Forest City, Minn.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth and Leora Quandt, Grand Meadow; sister Barbara and Les Rupkalvis, Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her father, August Quandt, and her mother, Amanda Schuelke, brother Vernon Quandt, Infant son Richard Quandt.
· Service: The service was held 11 a.m. today, Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at St. John Lutheran Church, in Austin where Rev. John Wesenburger officiated.

Arthur Jacobson 1906-1999
Arthur M. Jacobson, 93, of LeRoy, died Dec. 25, 1999 at the Ostrander Nursing Home in Ostrander where he had been a resident since Aug. 1999.
Art was born Aug. 6, 1906 in Bennington Township Mower County to Andrew and Mary (Northness) Jacobson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Ostrander Lutheran Church and attended schools in the Ostrander area.
Art worked for the Chicago Great Western Railroad for a short time and hauled cream in the Ostrander and LeRoy area. In 1932 he went into farming partnership with his brother Alvin until 1946 at which time he went to work for the State Highway Department. In 1958 he returned to farming taking over the Jacobson home farm and remained involved in farming until ill health caused him to quit in 1995. After his retirement from farming he enjoyed going to town to visit with his friends and talk about farming. In 1997 the farm was sold and Art entered assisted living apartments in Austin.
He is survived by brothers Alvin and wife Rhoda, Ostrander, Raymond and wife Margaret, LeRoy and Russell and wife Violet, Austin; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers James, Harry and Lloyd and sister Ruth.
· Service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the LeRoy Lutheran Church in LeRoy with the Rev. Norman Bauer officiating.

Esther (nee Wolfe) Ottjes1910-1999
Esther Ottjes, 89, Austin, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999 at Comforcare of Austin.
She was born Oct. 28, 1910 on a farm near Cresco, Iowa to William and Anna (Leffler) Wolfe. The Wolfe family moved to a farm between Racine and Stewartville, Minn. in 1925. She attended school and finished the eighth grade. She worked at home and for neighbors until she and Henry were married on Nov. 1, 1928. They lived a few months in Austin before moving to Brownsdale, Minn. After a year and a half, the Ottjes moved back to Austin to living on Vine Street.
Esther had volunteered for the Red Cross.
She had loved to garden and raise flowers. She was a very good cook and enjoyed listening to music and she liked to sing. Some of her hobbies included sewing and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Arnold and Millie Ottjes, Austin; daughter and son-in-law Lois and Dr. Gayle Stelter, Mankato; five grand children; five great-grandchildren; sister Dorothy Morrow, Prescott, Wis.; sister-in-law Lucille Wolfe, Cresco, Iowa; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and three brothers, and grandson Mark Ottjes.
· Service: 1:30 Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Stephen Kurtzahn officiating.

Leo A. Miller1933-1999
CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - Leo A. Miller, age 66, of 396 Teakwood Lane N.E.,
Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, December 25, 1999, at his home following
a short illness of cancer. He was formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa and Austin,
Minnesota.
He was born on November 30, 1933, at Stacyville, Iowa, to Hubert and
Rena Micheals.
He married Mary Ellen Adams Sept. 28, 1954, at Meyer, Iowa. He was employed by Hormel Foods Corporation in Austin, Minn. He was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake, Iowa; and Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Austin, Minn. He also belonged to Eagles, Elks and Catholic Foresters' organization and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, May Ellen; two sons, Dennis and his wife, Teresa, St. Louis, Mo., and Doug Miller and wife, Barb, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a daughter, Donna Petersen and her husband, David, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a brother, Victor, Mason City, Iowa; two sisters, Mary Ann Mayer and her husband, Eugene, Austin, Minn.; and Magdalene Judd and her husband, Duane, Austin, Minn., two sisters-in-law, Ann Miller, Austin, Minn. and Mag Miller, McHenry, Illinois; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ivan and Clarence.

Alice H. Anderson, 95, of Adams died Friday, June 30, 2000, at the Adams Health Care Center.
She was born March 16, 1905 in Adams to Enoch and Martha (Kleppe) Thorson. Alice has lived her entire life in the Adams community. She was baptized in the Little Cedar Country Church and confirmed in the Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams. She attended grade school and graduated from Adams High School. On March 11, 1925, she married Arnold Anderson. They lived on their farm west of Adams until they moved to Adams in 1982 where she resided until moving to the Cedar Court Apartments.
For the past nine month she has resided at the Adams Health Care Center. As a lifetime member of Little Cedar Lutheran church she was active in ALCW and Circle, and especially enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years. Her favorite pastimes were her family and friends, reading, gardening, and playing scrabble. Her gift of friendship and hospitality has been warmly extended throughout her lifetime.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Willard (Bethel) Anderson, St. James; daughter and son-in-law, Ramona (Robert) Hanson, Adams; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; sister, Marian Carroll, Austin; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold Anderson; son, Paul Anderson; granddaughter, Ann Hanson; one sister and three brothers.
· Service: The service was held Monday at Little Cedar Lutheran Church with the Rev. Richard M. Kastner officiating.
· Interment: Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery in Adams.

Walter C. Chilson1915-2000
Walter C. Chilson, age 85, of 501 4th Street, Lyle, died on Sunday,
July 2, 2000, at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota.
He was born June 25, 1915, at Rushford to Ludwig and Clara (Friedlund)
Chilson. He married Clara Underland on June 17, 1935, in Northwood, Iowa.
They have lived in Minnesota during those years in Moscow and for the past
50 years in Lyle.
Walter was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle where he was
a member of the Men's Botherhood. He also served there as an usher and custodian. He belonged to the Lyle American Legion.
One of the hobbies Walter said he enjoyed the most was flying an airplane. Among other things he enjoyed were skiing, fishing, bowling, and traveling. Some of the best times were when he and Clara traveled in their motor home. Another special time for them in their travels was the trip to Norway and to Hawaii.
In recent years he was devoted to caring for Clara. Walter was a dear husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Clara; children, Wayne Chilson, Wickenburg, Ariz., Marlene Everson, Austin, Mary Ann and Rick Broitzman, St. Ansgar, Iowa, Karen and Larry McCarty, Maple Lake, Donald and Kim Chilson, Bella Vista, Ark., 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Bert Chilson, Clearwater, Fla.
Walter was preceded in death by his son Rick; his parents and five brothers.
· Service: 2 p.m. today at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Lyle, with the Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea officiating.
· Interment: Moscow Lutheran Church Cemetery, Moscow with military rites by Lyle Legion Post 105.

She was born on November 15, 1902, on a farm in rural Claremont, Steele County,
the daughter of William and Magdalene (Hockemeyer) Jackel. She was baptized
in early infancy and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John's Lutheran
Church, rural Claremont. She also attended parochial and rural school in
the area. On August 31, 1927, she was united in marriage to Werner E. Wuertz
of Waltham at St. John's Lutheran Church, Claremont. This union was blessed
with three sons and one daughter. They farmed on Rural Route 5, Austin,
until the death of Werner March 26, 1964, after which Laura moved to
Brownsdale. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Brownsdale,
past member of Ladies' Aid, Circle and a long time member of the past
Neighborhood Friendship Club.
She is survived by her children, Duane Wuertz, National City, Mich.
Barbara (Clifford) Kuxhaus, Cedar park, Texas; grandchildren, Holly (Ed)
Pierce, Wendy (Greg) Johnson, Jonathan (Lee) Kuxhaus, Leah (Kris) Kanatzar
and Paul (Karen) Kuxhaus; seven great grandchildren.

Keiki Bernie Palmer 2000-2000
Keiki Bernie George Palmer, died June 24, 2000, of Polycystic Kidney
disease at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minn.
He is survived by his parents, Thad and Amy Palmer, Tonka Bay;
grandparents, Bruce and Sandy Hovland, Austin, Bill and Vivian Palmer,
St. Cloud; uncle, Jeff Hovland, Austin; aunt, Molly Palmer, St. Cloud
and Jeff and Leslie Jennen, Fergus Falls.
He was loved by many family and friends. He is gone, but never forgotten.
A funeral service for the immediate family only will be held in Lake City.

Frances (Gilbertson) Wilke1923-2000
Frances H. Wilke, 76, formerly of 1607 Sixth St. SE, Austin died July
4, 2000, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.
She was born on October 6, 1923, in Hayfield, Minnesota, to Eddie and
Clara (Solverud) Gilbertson. Frances went to school in Hayfield and married
Paul Wilke Oct. 12, 1940, in Dodge Center. A homemaker raising children and
grandchildren, she took them on outings and traveled a lot. She loved ice
cream. She was devoted to her church with circle group and was always
helping people. Frances loved to play bingo, cards and lots of board
games. She loved her kitty cats.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Richard "Dike" (Linda)
Wilke, Ft. Madison, Iowa; Doug (Marian) Wilke, Austin, Jeffrey (Cindy)
Wilke, Albert Lea; daughters and sons-in-law, Dorene Wilke, San Diego,
Calif., Sharene (Tebbe) DeBoer, Dundas, Janice (David) Williams, Burnsville,
Lori Brody; sixteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brothers Nordeen
Gilbertson, Hayfield; Luverne Gilbertson, Hayfield; sisters, Inez Ocheltree,

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Paul, her parents
and a sister, Ardella Gilbertson.

Timmy DeBoer, 48
Timmy M. (Tim) DeBoer, 48 of Austin, died on Saturday morning, July
1, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, due to injuries received in
an auto accident.
Tim was born on February 22, 1952, in Austin to Merton A. and Vernetta
(Klapperich) DeBoer. He graduated from Austin High School in 1970 and
attended two years of technical school. He served in the United States
Marine Corp from June 1972 until June 1980. He was united in marriage
to Frances L. Mairot on July 6, 1974, in San Diego, Calif. Tim was an
independent truck driver.
Tim loved to race, travel, restore cars, spend time with family and
go to Saturday auctions. He also enjoyed creating things in his shed. He
maintained his health despite his 3 1/2 year fight with cancer. He was
loved and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Frances DeBoer, Austin; daughters, Amie
DeBoer and special friend Jerry Hoesing, Austin, Sarah DeBoer, Austin,
Michelle DeBoer and special friend, Cole Hastings, Austin; father, Merton
DeBoer, Austin; brothers and sister-in-law, Hal (Sarah) DeBoer, Moravia,

Mary Bea (Vilt) Hill1955-2009
Mary Bea Hill, age 54, of Austin, died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at
Austin Medical Center.
Mary was born March 1, 1955, in Austin to Edward and Harriett (Tostenson)
Vilt. On Jan. 26, 2005, she was united in marriage to Peter Hill at the
Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Mary was a nurse and a historian.
She loved spending time with her family and storm spotting with Peter.
Survivors include her husband, Peter Hill, Austin; son, Mike (Erin)
Holgate, Woodbury; daughter, Melissa Holgate and fiance Jamison Wessels,
Granada; two grandchildren; two brothers, Edward (Linda) Vilt, Austin,
and Michael Vilt, Santa Clara, Calif.; and mother-in-law, Edna Hill,
Austin.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services will be held 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at First United
Methodist Church in Austin with the Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating. Friends
may call one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be in
the Bohemian National Cemetery.

Rose Helen Smith c1913-2009
Rose Helen Smith, age 95, died peacefully at the Cedar View Care Center in
Owatonna, Minnesota, on April 19, 2009.
Rose took great pride being a most devoted and faithful wife and mother.
She took pleasure in perfecting her bread, roll and pastry baking skills,
and her creations were much sought after at church bake sales and by her family in particular. She was honored as Volunteer of the Month by the Austin Daily Herald for lovingly and faithfully tending to the special needs of seniors of Austin's senior center.
A special thank you is extended to all the nurses and other care takers who loved her and made her stay as comfortable as possible at the Cedar View center during her two years as a resident there. They truly are angels.
Survivors include her children, Marilyn Langeslay, Vadnais Heights, Minn., Allan (Pat) Smith, Owatonna, Minn. Rose was blessed with six grandchildren, Scott (Liann) Smith, Michele (Gerry Bosak) Smith, Peggy (Bruce) Jindra, Jeffrey Smith, Lynn (Mark) Ettl, Cheryl Jameson; 15 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by Merrill, her beloved husband of 58 years; parents, Frank and Anna Plzak; sisters, Ella Plzak and Olive Skaran; brother-in-law, Albert Skaran, all of Austin; grandson, Jeffrey Allan Smith, Stillwater, Minn.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2009 at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Charles Edward “Buddy” Brown1942-2009
Charles Edward “Buddy” Brown, 66, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota,
died at his home on Wednesday, April 15, 2009. He was born in Logan County,
Kentucky, on December 25, 1942, to John and Ruby Lou (Tabb) Brown. Buddy
lived in Austin for more than 15 years, some of the time at Twin Towers.
He was a kind person who loved children. He liked working with wood,
making doll houses for children and visiting the farmer’s market on his
scooter. He loved singing karaoke. Johnny Cash was one of his favorite
singers.
Survivors include his family and friends, including special friends,
Patti Lang and Mary (Frank) Mangskau.
Worlein Funeral Home in Austin is in charge of arrangements. Buddy
requested that his body be cremated and his cremains buried with his
mother in Kentucky.

William Francis Gale1946-2009
William Francis Gale, age 63, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died
on April 19, 2009 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Bill was born to Harley and Loretta Gale on Jan. 17, 1946 in Sioux Falls,
South Dakota. He graduated from O'Gorman High School in 1964 and from
Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. in 1968. On June 15, 1968 he
was united in marriage to Janine Pekas at Christ the King Church in Sioux
Falls, S.D. Bill worked for the State of South Dakota from 1968 to 1972.
The family moved to Austin and Bill worked for Hormel Foods until his
retirement in December 2005.
Bill was blessed with three children, Marc (Kari), Rosemount, Minn.,
Gretchen (Mike) Busch, Stevensville, Mich., Meghan (Brad) Nielsen, Austin,
Texas; eight grandchildren, Emma and Morgan Gale, Max, Anna, Elli and Alex
Busch, Cole and soon-to-be baby girl, Nielsen.
Bill's greatest joy in life was time spent with his family. His hobbies
included hunting, fishing, golfing, biking and grilling for anyone who would
listen to his jokes. He brought joy and laughter to everyone he met. He will
be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Janine, Austin; brother, Jim (Dorothy) Gale, Sioux Falls; three children and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal and Father Paul Nelson officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Wednesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.

Roderick Oren "Biddy" Morem1930-2009
Roderick Oren Morem, age 79, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, died on April 18, 2009 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Roderick Morem was born on January 3, 1930 to Oren and Gilma Morem in Spring Grove, Minnesota. He lived and attended elementary school in Harmony, Minn. In 1941 his family moved to Austin where Roderick graduated from Austin High School. Biddy was employed at Geo. A. Hormel for 39 years in the tin shop. He retired in 1986. For the last nine years he enjoyed working full time as a security guard until March 6, 2009 at Hormel.
Roderick is survived by his wife, Dolores Morem of Austin; seven children, Jenny Morem (Roger Diggins) of Austin, Brad (Kathryn) Morem of Scottsdale, Ariz., Melanie (Larry) Janssen of Rose Creek, Minn., Kathy (Mike) Fontana of Scottsdale; Beth (Ed) Lopez of Globe, Ariz., Doug (Katie) Morem of Red Wing, Minn., Lee (Mary) Morem of Blooming Prairie, Minn.; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Other survivors include: brothers, Charles Morem of Austin, Gary Morem of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oren and Gilma Morem, Austin and older brother, Robert "Bobby" Morem , Scottsdale, Ariz.
The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Austin. Please feel free to come and visit the family prior to the service at 1 p.m. The service will be given by Jon Best.

Etta Marie (Burand) Pospichal1934-2009
Etta Marie (Burand) Pospichal, age 75, of Austin, Mower county, Minnesota, went to be with the Lord on April 18, 2009.
She was born on March 2, 1934 to Ralph and Lorraine (Reed) Burand in La Crosse, Wis. After graduation from high school, Etta earned her accounting degree and worked at the College of St. Teresa in Winona. She married Carl Postpichal on Jan. 16, 1953 in Savanna, Illinois. They lived in various towns before moving to Winon, Minnesota in 1974. Etta became a resident of the Village Co-op in Austin in June, 2008. A devout Christian, she attended Bible studies wherever she lived. Her love for dogs and cats showed in her volunteer work for the humane society. Etta was also an avid reader.
Survivors include one son, Mark (Gloria) Pospichal, Winona; one daughter, Jennifer (Dave Heublein) Pospichal, Lewiston; four grandchildren, Miranda (Joseph Martin) Pospichal, Richard Pospichal, Angela Pospichal-Heublein, Amy Postpichal-Heublein; two great-grandchildren, Bradyn and Savannah Martin; one brother, Donald (Rosemary) Burand, Galesburg, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl and a grandson, Michael.
Private services will be held with family and friends in Austin. Interment will be later in Savanna, Illinois. Arrangements were made with Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.
