Elizabeth R. Majerus 1918-2008
Elizabeth Rose Majerus, 89, of Austin, Mower County, Minnesota, died on March 8, 2008 at Three Links Care Center in Northfield, Minnesota.
Rose was born September 15, 1918 in Bellechester, Minnesota, to Mathias and Elsie (Hofschulte) Weinmann. On Sept. 4, 1945 she was united in marriage to Gilbert Majerus. They moved to Austin in 1947. Gilbert preceded her in death on October 21, 2000. Rose enjoyed baking, bingo, music, dancing and being around people.
Survivors include her two sons, Howard (Linda) Majerus, Austin, Thomas (Mary) Majerus, Marietta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Melissa, Michael, Brandon and Natalie; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her son, Dennis; three brothers, Clarence, George and Jerry; and sister, Mary.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Mayer Funeral Home with Deacon John Kluczny officiating. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Monday and one hour before the service on Tuesday at Mayer Funeral Home. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Austin.

Arlene (Kallevig) Levy 1920-2008
Arlene Levy (Kallevig), 87, of Robbinsdale, Minnesota, passed away on March 5, 2008 at Ambassador Good Samaritan Nursing Home in New Hope, Minn.
Arlene was born April 18, 1920 in Wilmer, Minnesota, to Christ and Florence (Baklund) Kallevig. She was a member of Friendship Force and Honeywheelers Square Dance Club. Arlene was also an active volunteer with many church groups at St. Margaret Mary Parish. She was a former volunteer tutor at New Hope Elementary School.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, George Sr.; son, George Jr. (Beverly); daughters, Adrienne (Rick) Riley. and Denise Levy; grandchildren, Jason (Shannon), Michael, Erin, Robert, Patrick (Lark), and Blake (Jessica); great-grandchildren, Jade, Murphy, Kiara, and Brooklyn; other relatives and friends.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held on 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Church of St. Margaret Mary in Golden Valley, Minn. There will be a private interment at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, Minnesota.

Anne Gurvin c1933-2008
Anne Jeanne Gurvin, age 75, died suddenly on Tuesday March 4, 2008.
Anne was born in Rochester, Minnesota, to Palmer and Regina (Krebsbach)
Gurvin and graduated from Adams High School, Adams, Minn. Following high
school, she obtained a BA degree in English and American studies, with
honors, and an MA degree in Library Science and Spanish Literature from
the University of Minnesota. She attended the Sorbonne in Paris, France,
the University of Madrid in Spain, and the University of Texas in Austin,
Texas.
Her early career included teaching high school English in Olivia, Minn.,
serving as a library administrator for the U.S. Army Foreign Services in
France, and working as an academic at the University of California at
Berkeley. In 1968, Anne was appointed to the U.S. State Department where
she served almost 30 years, mainly in Europe and South America, and rose
to the rank of Senior Foreign Service Officer. She spoke French, Spanish,
Swedish, and Dutch fluently. She was the recipient of many awards. Her
management style is quoted in a book on creative leadership that was
published in 1995. While she lived overseas for almost 21 years during
her U.S. Government service, she continuously kept close ties with her
family and friends throughout the U.S. Upon retirement, she resided in
Washington, D.C.
Throughout her life, Anne was committed to the promotion of music,
literature and theater in the U.S. and cultural exchange between the
United States and countries overseas. She was active in politics and
voter registration. She continued her involvement with academic institutions
including serving as a judge for the Carnegie Foundation. She was an active
member of the organization of Diplomatic and Consular Officers (Retired),
of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Washington D.C., and many other
organizations. She was a donor to many special causes. She loved to
travel. She had planned an upcoming trip to Morocco in April. Anne's
major life challenge came when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
For 15 years she fought six different cancers with the guidance of doctors
and staff of the Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins. She contributed in the
writing and development of several cancer therapy/recovery books, one
published by the Harvard University Press.
She is survived by three brothers: Peter (Jerusha), Bethesda, Md.,
George Gurvin, Arlington, Va., John (Antoinette), Burnsville, Minn.;
nieces: Amelia and Katherine Gurvin; nephew Kenneth Gurvin, and a number
of cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Palmer and Regina Gurvin, and
a brother, Richard Gurvin; uncles Alphonsus and Francis Krebsbach, George
Gurvin and aunts Sadie Gurvin and Nellie Madsen.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Sacred Heart
Catholic Church with Father James Seitz Officiating. Interment
was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Adams.

Joyce (Koester) Emery1939-2008
Joyce M. Emery, age 68, of Austin, Mower County, Minnesota, died on
Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Adams Healthcare Center.
Joyce was born June 8, 1939 in Austin, Minnesota, where she grew up and
attended school. She married Alvie H. Emery on September 12, 1957 in Austin.
Joyce worked at many area nursing homes.
She belonged to St. Augustine Catholic Church, American Legion and VFW. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes, sewing and playing bingo. Alvie died on October 19, 2004.
Survivors include children: Peggy (Donald) Underdahl, Austin, Minn.,
Dalas Emery, Adams, Minn., Jodi (Christofar) Atak, Rochester, Minn.; two
grandchildren: Leon and Jeremy; three sisters: Mary (Donald) Hammas,
Rochester, N.Y., Terryl (William) Finbraaten, Austin, Minn., Margaret
(Dennis) Dunn, Austin, Minn., Donna Waller, Winona, Minn., Judy (Howdy)
Mauer, Waterloo, Iowa; brothers: Thomas (Ev) Koester, Waterloo, Iowa, Jerry
(Sue) McCarthy, Austin, Minn.; one step grandchild: Benson; many nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her her husband, Alvie; her parents, Raymond
and Marie (Prihoda) Koester; her birth mother, Edna McCarthy; and one brother,
Michael Koester.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Austin.

Vernon Leroy Potter1949-2008
Vernon Leroy Potter, age 58 of Lyle, Minnesota, passed away on February
28, 2008 after a short battle with terminal cancer.
Vern was born on November 30, 1949, in Cottage Grove, Oregon.
Vern lived in Ventrua, California, and was very active with his wife,
children and work through out the years. He played baseball with his work
company Vetco Products. Vern is loved and cherished by family and friends.
We will hold him in out thoughts and hearts until the day we join him and
rejoice our loved ones once again.
Vern is survived by his loving wife: Beverly Potter; his three children,
Tonja Harris, Eric Potter and Amy Vasquez and by his wonderful seven
grandchildren.

Eva Loida (Staples) Schnirring1930-2008
Eva Loida Schnirring, 77, was born on Sept. 11, 1930, the daughter of Herbert and Stella (Salisbury) Staples in Austin. She was a life-long resident of Brownsdale, and graduated from Austin High School in 1948.
Eva was united in marriage to Dale Laurence Schnirring on Sept. 16, 1949, at the First Baptist Church in Brownsdale. Eva worked at Hormel for a few years, Libby's in Rochester, and worked on the farm raising chickens, milking cows and raising cattle. She enjoyed being a farmer's wife, taking care of her family, life on the farm, doing her gardening, the change of seasons, and caring for her pets. She had a strong Christian belief, was active in the church and enjoyed gospel music. She was very much loved, and will be missed by many.
Eva is survived by her son, Terry Schnirring and fianc/e, Susan; five grandchildren, Paul, Eric, Teresa, Bradley and Timothy; great-grandson, Kai; brother, Everett (Bernice) Staples, Palatine, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; four sisters, Clarabelle Krull, Josephine Iblings, Irene Staples, LaVonne Bergstrom; and four brothers, Warren, Mark, Wayne and Clarence Staples.
The funeral service for Eva Loida Schnirring will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Brownsdale, with the Reverend Jerry Harris officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Brownsdale. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Brownsdale, and one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

Richard Francis Gerber1954-2008
Richard Francis Gerber, 53, of Adams died on March 11, 2008 unexpectedly
at the family farm.
He was born Aug. 31, 1954 in Austin to Robert and Margaret (Retterath)
Gerber. Richard graduated from Adams High School in 1972 and received his
Associate of Arts degree from Austin Community College in 1974. Richard
married Marlys Johnson on Sept. 5, 1981 at the United Church of Grand
Meadow. After college Richard took over the family farm near Adams,
Minn.; and for the next 30 years he farmed with his brother Jerry.
Richard was a member of the United Church of Grand Meadow, where he
served on the church council. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling.
Richard felt that it was very important to spend as much time as possible
with his family.
Richard is survived by his spouse, Marlys Gerber, Adams; children, Justin
Gerber, Adams, Andrea Gerber, Adams, Eric Gerber, Adams; parents, Robert and
Margaret Gerber, Adams; brothers and sisters: Barbara (John) Garvey, Wayzata,

United Church of Grand Meadow with Pastor Karen Ashton officiating.
Interment will be in the Marshall Lutheran Cemetery in Adams. Visitation
will be at Adams Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-7:30 p.m. and for one
hour before the service at the church.

Barbara May (Heins) Allen 1935-2008
Barbara May Allen, 72, of Austin died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at St. Marys
Hospital, Rochester, Minn.
She was born May 12, 1935 in Lake City, Minn., to Ralph and Orrilla
(Storing) Heins. Barbara graduated from the Lake City High School and
was married to Ernest E. Allen, Jr. on April 16, 1955 at Lake City. She
was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was active in
the church women and the couples club. Barbara was also active in area Home
Extension groups. She enjoyed playing the piano and was a country music lover.
Barbara is survived by her children, Carol Allen, Lyle, Minn.; son,
Jeff (Patty) Allen, Lyle; Mary Allen (Keith Hughes), Austin; mother-in-law,
Nina Allen, Perham, Minn.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ernest Allen, Jr.
grandsons Darrick and Alexander Laack and her brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2008
at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Patricia Toschak
officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery. Visitation
will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and at First
United Methodist Church on Saturday for one hour before the service.
Casketbearers will be Heath Heins, Joe Harrington, Keith Hughes, Jeffrey
Allen, Jr., Jeremiah Hansen, Jacob Laack, Josh Laack and Jason Hansen.

Mary Catherine (Miller) Meyer1936-2008
Mary Catherine (Miller) Meyer, 72, of Fort Dodge, Iowa died on March
11, 2008.
Mary was born on Feb. 2, 1936 in Austin to Orris and Catherine (Halligan)
Miller. She attended school in Austin. In June of 1954 she was united in
marriage to Paul J. Meyer in Austin. In 1960 they moved to Fort Dodge and
established a home. They later divorced. Mary enjoyed playing cards,
watching the cubs and spending time with family and friends. She will be
sadly missed by all who loved her.
Survivors include her five children, Denise (Ed) Hankel, Blue Springs,
Mo., Thomas Meyer, Mexico City, Mexico; Joseph Meyer and companion Tammy
Sheker, Fort Dodge; Tammy Sandven, Fort Dodge, Julie (Tom) Karsten, Fort
Dodge; grandchildren, Amie, Aaron (LeAnn), Jacob, Catherine, Nicole;
great-granddaughter, Madison Grave; brother, Mike (Linda) Miller;
sister-in-law Kay Miller all of Austin; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orris and Catherine (Halligan)
Miller; two brothers, James and Thomas Miller; sister, Delores Burdine.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 10:30 a.m.
in the Laufer Sweiler-Sivers Funeral Home chapel in Fort Dodge with the
Reverend Tim Johnson officiating. Interment will be at the Corpus Christi
Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, March 14, 2008 from 4-8 p.m. with
a rosary service at 4:30 p.m.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Clemencia Campbell-Carlson1913-2008
Clemencia Campbell-Carlson, 94, of Minneapolis died on Feb. 22, 2008.
She was born in Cuba on May 31, 1913 and her family moved to Mobile,
Alabama when she was a child and then to the Red Wing area where she
attended school. She was employed as a painter for Red Wing Pottery. She
married golf professional Bob Carlson and the family moved to Austin in
1949. They later divorced. Clem enjoyed sports, working in many mediums
of the arts and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Harvey) Hutchins, Rochester,
Minn.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Sherman; two sisters;
and a brother.
A celebration of her life will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15,
at Ebenezer Care Center Chapel in Minneapolis. Memorials are preferred to
the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are being made with
Thomson-Dougherty Historic Funeral Home.

Gary Back1944-2008
Gary Back, 63, passed away at Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo, Calif. He had
resided in Vacaville, Calif.
He was born June 6, 1944 to David and Dorothy Back in Austin.
He is survived by his wife, Mona; daughter, Shelly (Pat) Blanton;
grandsons, Austin and Riley Blanton; son, Tim (Emily) Back; granddaughters,
Lily, Lauren and Ava; sister, Shirley (Bill) Playle; brothers, Eugene (Judy)
Back, Keith (Norma) Back; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and
friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Dorothy Back and
brother, Allan.

AUSTIN, MINN.-- Robert L. Webber, 57, of 1006 16th St. S.W., a retired
Amoco Oil Corp. employee, died Wednesday (April 6, 1994) at St. Olaf
Hospital in Austin. He was born April 30, 1936, in Austin.
On February 11, 1961, he married Gloria Monson at Queen of Angels
Catholic Church in Austin.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Daniel of Lanesboro and Jeff of
Richmond, Minn.; three daughters, Debi (Mrs. Tom) Utter of Coon Rapids,
Minn., Angie Webber of Golden Valley, Minn., and Chris Webber of Rochester;
four grandchildren; and a brother, Lynn of Adams. His parents preceded him
in death.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at
St. Edward's Catholic Church in Austin, with the Rev. Donald Zenk
officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Austin. Military
rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 116.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Saturday at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin.

Margaret Dorothy (Rosenthal) Carle1906-2008
Margaret Dorothy Carle, 101, of Austin died on March 14, 2008 at Ostrander Care and Rehab Center, Ostrander, Minn.
On Aug. 24, 1906, Walter and Olive (Haseltine) Rosenthal welcomed a
beautiful red-headed daughter into their family. Margaret Dorothy grew up in rural Austin with her brother, Rollo, and two sisters, Eileen and Miriam. Margaret helped with the farm chores and attended a small Seventh-day Adventist school until she was old enough to attend Austin High School, which she graduated from in 1925. As a young woman, her heart was stolen by a dashing young man, Irvin Carle. They married and moved to a home just down the street, where they shared over 40 years of marriage. After Irvin's death (1969), Margaret remained in their home, living at the same address for over 70 years until, at the age of 95, she fell, breaking a hip. That necessitated a move to the Ostrander Nursing Home. She adopted the staff as her "family" and they adored her as well, making the last six years of her life quite remarkable. The staff believed that grace and dignity left the facility when she passed to her rest on Friday, March 14, 2008
Margaret is survived by her grandchildren, Kathy and Dale Burdorf, Deerwood, Minn.; Kenny & Marilyn Greenman, Johnstown, Colo.; Brenda & Dan Pennypacker, Jacksonville, Fla.; George Greenman, Afghanistan; eight great-grandchildren; great-great-grandaughter, AnnMarie Osmus; nieces, and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; brother; sisters; husband, Irvin; daughter, Jeanne; and granddaughter, Beth.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Jim Van Arsdale officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Wednesday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service.

Harold G. Thorn 1917-2008
Harold George Thorn, 90, of Austin, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Austin Medical Center.
He was born July 19, 1917 in Staples, Minn., to George and Agnes (DeMars) Thorn. He graduated from Staples High School in 1935. Harold was united in marriage to Elva V. Buttshaw on Sept. 6, 1937 in Wadena. They moved to Austin in 1942 where Harold worked at Hormel Foods for 39 years, retiring in 1980. He served in WW II with the Fifth Air Force #317 bombing wing. In 1945, he was shipped to the Philippines. A member of Grace Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 91, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1216, Mower County Senior Citizens Center, and Eagles Club, Harold loved to bowl, play pool and golf. A snowmobiler and motor cyclist, he rode his cycle to Rapid City, S.D.
He is survived by his wife, Elva; daughters, Patricia L. Konz, Chandler, Ariz. and Nancy (Allen) Fimon, Austin; five grandchildren, Stacie (Robert) Bryan, Chandler, Tricia (Gayn) Erickson, San Jose, Calif., Michelle Fimon, Austin, Michael (Amanda) Fimon, Holyoke, Colo., Maraye Fimon, Austin; five great-grandchildren, Jonathan Erickson, Hanna Erickson, Sydney Bryan, Evan Bryan and Jadon Fimon. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Agnes; brother, Robert; sister, Lucille; and son-in-law, Jon Konz.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 22 at 2 p.m. at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel with The Reverend Robert Iverson officiating and military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216. Friends may call one hour before the service at Worlein Funeral Home. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery at a later date.

Delores M. Mathwig1926-2008
Delores Mary Mathwig, 81, of Austin, died on March 16, 2008 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.
Delores was born Oct. 20, 1926 in Swea City, Iowa to Thomas and Fernanda (Stelflug) VonBank. She graduated from St. John's Catholic School in Bancroft, Iowa. Delores raised and showed purebred Weimaraner dogs for many years. She did volunteer work at the Senior Citizen's Center. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Golden Age Club and the Catholic Foresters.
Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Herron, San Antonio, Texas and Agnes (Marvin) Kosbab, Fairmont.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 5 p.m. CCW rosary and a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Tuesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 5-7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery in Bancroft, Iowa.

Dorothy B. Byam 1915-2008
Dorothy Blanche Byam, 92, of Austin, died on March 15, 2008 at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.
Dorothy was born April 27, 1915 in London, Minn., to Oscar and Mary (Selzer) Bellemans. She married Perry L. Byam on June 15, 1936 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. He preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 1993. She was a wife and mother.
She is survived by a daughter, Joan (Jim) Hayden; two sons, Lowell (Lorraine) Byam and Perry B. (Nancy) Byam all of Austin;12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie Ann and Bernard Charles Nelson; sister, Mary Ellen Adams and Theodore Bellemans.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be a 4 p.m. CCW Rosary and a 6 p.m. prayer service on Tuesday evening at Mayer Funeral Home. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m., at the funeral home, on Tuesday and one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church. Casket bearers will be Todd Nelson, Perry James Byam, Craig Byam, Jim Byam, Jesse Boyd and Derek Boyd.

Debra (Witt) Semmann 1959-2008
Debra Kay Semmann, age 48, of Morristown, Minnesota, died on Thursday,
March 13, 2008 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Debra was born Dec. 13, 1959 to Ivan and Mary (Winn) Witt in Austin, Minn. where she grew up and graduated from high school. After graduation from AHS in 1978, Deb attended the University of Minnesota.
She married Steve Semmann on Feb. 21, 1981 in Austin. They moved to Morristown where they raised their four children. A paraprofessional in education and an interior decorator, Deb was devoted to her family and attended all her children's sports events. She was also a dog lover.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and two uncles.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 17, 2007 at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Austin with the Reverend Dennis Tamke officiating. Worlein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation or reviewal.

Wayne Peter Mullenbach 1936-2008
Wayne Peter Mullenbach, age 72, of Adams, Minn., died Friday, March 14, 2008 at the Austin Medical Center.
Wayne was born Jan. 30, 1936 in Adams, Minn. to John and Magdalena (Merten) Mullenbach. Wayne graduated from the Adams High School and was married to Frances Spinler on Sept. 25, 1962 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Medford, Minn. They moved to the Mullenbach family farm in rural Adams where they resided until moving into Adams in 1994.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where he served on the church council.
Wayne loved farming and never really retired. He also enjoyed woodworking and helping his grandchildren with their projects. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed baseball, softball and football games.
Wayne is survived by his wife: Frances Mullenbach, Adams, Minn.; children: Lori and Kevin Blowers, New Richland, Minn.; Pat and Kris Mullenbach, Adams, Minn.; Randy Mullenbach, LeRoy, Minn., Tim Mullenbach, Rose Creek, Minn., Betty Mullenbach, Adams, Minn.; sisters and brother: Evangline Binzer, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Elmer (Donna) Mullenbach, Adams, Minn.; Cleo Ann Osmundson, Adams, Minn., Jurine (David) Smith, Adams, Minn.; sister-in-law: LaVonne (Slim) Landherr, Adams, Minn.; nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Vernon and a sister Darlene Mayer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Father James Seitz Officiating. Interment will be in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Johnsburg. Visitation will be at Adams Funeral Home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. There will be a rosary service at 7 p.m. on Monday evening.

Alva C. (Lane) Viste 1911-2008
Alva C. Viste, 96, of Adams died on March 12, 2008 at Adams Health Care Center.
She was born July 21, 1911 in Aldin Township, Hardin County, Iowa to Frank
and Pauline (Thompson) Lane. Alva attended school at Plymouth, Iowa. She was married to Frank Faust in McKeesport, Penn. and then later divorced. She moved to Adams, Minn., in 1945. Alva worked as a waitress at the Pine Room and also cleaned houses for many Adams area families. She was married to Clarence O. Viste in February of 1962.
She was a member of Little Cedar Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA and the women's circles. Alva was also a member of the Adams Post #146 American Legion Auxiliary, the Adams Health Care Center Auxiliary and the Friendly Garden Club.
Alva was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing the flowers and produce
from her efforts with friends and neighbors. She loved spending time with
her family and was an excellent cook and baker. She was well known in the
area for "Alva's famous potato salad" and her oatmeal cakes.
Alva is survived by her daughter, Donna Osmundson, Adams; grandchildren, Jennifer Osmundson and Richard Kashiwabara, Kapaa, Kauai, Hawaii; Jeffrey and Lisa Osmundson, Woodbury, Minn.; Heather and Lorenzo Davis, Jr., Woodbury, Minn.; great-grandsons, Joshua Osmundson, Zachary Osmundson, Lorenzo Davis, III; brothers and sisters-in-law, Glen Lane, Oak Harbor, Wash., Forrest Lane, Vero Beach, Fla., Dean (Arlene) Lane, San Diego, Calif.; Betty Lane, Manly, Iowa; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Viste; sisters, Florence and Thora; brother, Maurice; and son-in-law Jerry Osmundson.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Little Cedar Lutheran Church with the Reverend Shari Mason Officiating. The organist will be Pat Hinz with soloist will be June Wolf. Interment will be in the Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be at Little Cedar Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. The Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rodney Eugene Mildenstein1943-2008
Rodney Eugene Mildenstein, 64, of Austin passed away March 12, 2008, at Austin Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 27, 1943 in Austin, to Harold and Gertrude Mildenstein. He graduated from West Concord High School in 1961. He went on to be an excellent hairdresser with a great following until retiring in 1989. He then went onto work in various casinoes dealing blackjack and keno. He married his beloved wife, Donna Jacobsen, she precedes him in death. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fly-fishing and cooking for his family.
He is survived by three stepchildren Jamie (Ron) Dahlen, Jim (Sandy) Jacobsen, John Jacobsen; mother-in-law, Fran Weller; grandchildren, Angela, Melissa, Jessica and Jimmy; great-grandchildren, Kristen and Jacob; siblings, Richard (Kathy) Mildenstein and Sharie(Mike) Saugen; nieces, Aarah Saugen and Alison (Eric) Saugen-Smith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; mother and father; two sisters; and one brother.
At his request no funeral serivices are planned. Internment will be at Parkers Prarie Cemetary at a future date. The family prefers memorials to be directed to Austin Medical Center Hospice.

Adolph Eugene Holt 1889-1959

Adolph Eugene Holt, son of Simon N. Holt and Anna Danielson was born in Fountain Township, Fillmore County on May 1, 1889. He was baptized in the Root Prairie Lutheran Church.
In "1294", [typing error by paper] he moved with his parents to Bennington township in Mower County, where as a young lad he was confirmed in the Bennington Lutheran Church by Pastor O. A. Bue. Here in Bennington township on his parent's farm he grew to manhood. He was called into service and was discharged at the end of World War I.
On November 15, 1936 he was united in marriage to Alta Fink Turner in the Bennington church by Pastor F. Eide. They farmed in the community until they purchased and moved to a farm near LeRoy on October 1,1957 where he passed away on Sunday morning the 4th of January 1959.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Nels who died in 1905.
He is survived by his wife, Alta, a step daughter, Nadine, Mrs. Ralph Lynch of Rochester, seven grandchildren and by Roger Fink, who has made his home with Eugene and Alta since 1945. He is also survived by two brothers, namely Oscar and Abner Holt on the farm in Bennington and by four sisters, Christine Holt of Minneapolis; Alma, Mrs. Joel Everson; Olga, Mrs. Sel Lee of Minneapolis and Clara, Mrs. Albert Rogstad of Fountain, besides two nephews and six neices. He also leaves to mourn his loss a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 from the LeRoy Lutheran Church conducted by the pastor, Rev. Paul Hanson. Interment was in the Lutheran Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Clarence Benson, Clarence Hanson, Einar Jacobson, Carlin Mellem, Oscar Milan and Clarence Thorson.

The funeral for Alta L. Holt, Rochester, was Saturday, August 20, 1988 at
Ranfranz Funeral Home, with the Rev. Thomas Koelln of Gloria Dei Lutheran
Church officiating. Graveside services followed in the LeRoy Lutheran Church
Cemetery, with the Rev. Duane Hanson officiating.
Mrs. Holt, 85, a former LeRoy area farm homemaker, died on Thursday,
August 18, at Samaritan Bethany Nursing Home, following a lengthy illness.
Survivors include a daughter, 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren;
one great-great-grandchild and two brothers.

Amos J. Fink1868-1940

AMOS J. FINK
Amos J. Fink was born in Illinois June 29, 1868. A couple of years later the family moved to Kansas where he remained until a young man when he went to Sumner, Iowa.
On March 26, 1898 he was married to Reka Plutz. To this union six children were born. A son, Floyd preceded him in death, also his only brother.
On March 1st 1920 he and his family moved to Minnesota. At the time of his death the family were living near Racine, Minn.
Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Alta Holt of LeRoy, four sons, Roy and Harold of Rochester, Donald of Racine, and Russell at home. Also five grandchildren.
At the time of his death he was 71 years, 7 months and 14 days of age.
Funeral services were held Friday forenoon, Feb. 16 at 10:30 from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Eugene Holt, conducted by Rev. F. Eide. Rev. Eide sang two numbers.
The pall bearers were his four sons, his son-in-law and Jens Christensen.
Burial was at Wilson Grove Cemetery.

Reka (Platz) Fink 1879-1980

101 Mrs. Amos Fink, Former LeRoyan, Dies
Mrs. Amos Fink, 101, a resident of Rochester Health Care Center and former LeRoy area farm homemaker, died Thursday, April 17 of natural causes at the nursing home. She had been ill the past month.
The former Reka Platz, she was born Jan. 14, 1879, in Germany. She came to the United States with her family in 1882 and they settled in the Sumner, Iowa, area.
She married Amos Fink on March 26, 1898, in Waverly, Iowa. The couple farmed in Iowa until 1920 when they moved to a farm near LeRoy. Mr. Fink died in 1940. Mrs. Fink moved with her daughter in Rochester until entering the nursing home in 1966.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Alta Holt of Rochester; three sons, Harold and Russell, both of Rochester, and Donald of Waterloo, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Tillie Michel of Oelwein, Iowa. Two sons, three brothers and eight sisters also preceded her in death.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. Monday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church at Rochester with Rev. James E. Janke officiating. Burial was in Wilson Grove Cemetery at Sumner, Iowa, at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Ranfranz Funeral Home of Rochester was in charge of arrangements.
