Floyd E. Baxter1923-2008
Floyd Earl Baxter, 84 of Austin died on March 5, 2008 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.
He was born April 2, 1923 in Austin to Earl and Mary (Schaefer) Baxter. Floyd graduated from Austin High School and served in the Navy.
He was married to Edith L. Oleson on May 3, 1946 at Austin. He worked for the Geo. A. Hormel Co. for 42 1/2 years, retiring on Oct. 9, 1984. Floyd was a member of Crane Community Chapel, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Austin Eagles clubs. He was an active person who enjoyed spending winters in Texas, fishing, camping, stock car racing, building stock cars, tinkering and making things for others.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Edith Baxter, Austin; children, Sandy Lester (Baldus) Cottage Grove, Minn., Diane Schocker, Devils Lake, N.D.; Brian (Brenda) Baxter, Clarendon, N.Y.; Kathy (Larry) Mensing, Faribault, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.
Floyd was preceded in death by a son; one daughter; two grandchildren; five sisters; and two brothers.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, March 10, 2008 at Crane Community Chapel with Pastor Mark Goossen officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery. Friends may greet the family for one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Melissa Ann Weiss1974-2008
Melissa Ann Weiss, 33 of Rochester, Minnesota, and formerly of Austin,
Minnesota, died on March 4, 2008 in Mower County as the result of an auto
accident. She was born Aug. 7, 1974 to Peter G. and Karen (George) Weiss
in Austin, where she grew up and attended school. Melissa lived and worked
in Rochester for the last 10 years.
Survivors include three children, Bethany Weiss, Austin, Andrew Rasmussen,
Rochester and Josiah Hagblom, Rochester; her parents, Peter G. Weiss and Karen
(Jerry) Averbeck, Austin; brother, Scott Weiss, Rochester; boyfriend, Wade
Hagblom, Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 7, 2008 at
Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with the Reverend Jim Filbeck
officiating. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service.

Victor J. Holst 1933-2008
Victor J. Holst, 74, of Rapid City, South Dakota, passed away on Sat.,
March 1, 2008 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Victor Holst was born in Austin, Mower County, Minnesota, on July 6,
1933 and he lived with his family on a farm near Brownsdale, Minn. Vic
was drafted into the Army in 1952 and was stationed in Korea during the
Korean conflict before being honorably discharged. He returned to Minnesota
to farm with his father and brother, Eugene, and quickly built an
international reputation for hog-breeding. Vic was recruited by the
emerging National Farmers Organization (NFO) and began working on
national farm issues in the late 1950s. Following the election of
John F. Kennedy as president, he was recruited by Agriculture Secretary
Orville Freeman as a national agriculture adviser based in Washington, D.C.
In addition to serving on the national board of directors of the NFO,
he was also very involved in Democratic Party politics and was on a personal
basis with Hubert Humphrey, Walter Mondale and many other political leaders
in Minnesota. Vic married Ilah Mae and the couple lived on some of the
original family acreage near Austin for 10 years. Vic and Ilah Mae moved
to a ranch near Watertown, S.D., where Vic continued his lifelong interested
in breeding Belgian workhorses, another passion at which he excelled. The
couple moved to Rapid City in 1994 where they lived since.
He is survived by his wife, Ilah Holst, Rapid City, S.D.; four children,
Michael, Minneapolis, Minn., John, St. Charles, Minn., Mark, Longmont,
Colo., Jodi, Littleton, Colo.; two grandsons, Matthew and Daniel,
Littleton, Colo.; and brother, Eugene, Brownsdale.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008 at St. Paul's Ev.
Lutheran Church in Rapid City, with the Rev. Doug Free officiating.
Visitation will be at the church for one hour before services. Interment
and committal services will be at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church Cemetery in
Dexter Township near Brownsdale at a later date. Friends may sign Victor's
online guestbook at www.kirkfuneral home.com. Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid
City is in charge of the arrangements.

Lester Anderson c1914-2008
Lester Anderson, 93, a 17-year resident of Palo Alto, Calif., died
on February 22, 2008, of heart failure.
Anderson was a leader of the senior community at Stevenson House. He
served as vice president of the Residents' Association and chaired the
Food Committee.
Anderson was born on his parents' farm in Ridgeway, Iowa. His
grandparents had immigrated to Iowa from Norway in the 1870s. He was
a member of the Sons of Norway, and he visited Norway to meet distant
relatives there.
After marrying Coral Hovden in 1939, he operated a movie theater in
Fayette, Iowa. During World War II, he worked for the Douglas Martin
Aircraft Corporation in Omaha, Neb. Anderson moved to Austin, in 1946
and worked for the George A. Hormel Company for 30 years, principally
as a chef and foreman. He was a member of the Spam Club and the St. Olaf
Lutheran Church. In retirement, he loved to travel. His favorite
destinations were Bear Valley, Reno, Norway, Paris, Alaska, and the
Panama Canal.
Anderson is survived by his daughter Sandra (Scott) Pearson, Stanford;
granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Sarah Pearson and Evan Seevak of
Piedmont, Calif., and Elizabeth (Dave) Garr, Palo Alto; and four
great-grandchildren, Emma, Abigail, and Nathaniel Seevak and Katherine Garr.
A celebration of his life will be held at 12 p.m. on March 16 at Sunken
Diamond (Klein Field), Stanford University. Contributions may be made to
Stevenson House in Palo Alto.

Kenneth Levi Legler 1923-2008
Kenneth Levi Legler, 84, of Austin, Minnesota, died on March 2, 2008 at his home.
He was born Sept. 30, 1923 in Canova, South Dakota, to Jacob and Alma (Koepsell) Legler.
In 1944 Kenneth married Erma Taylor at Grace Lutheran Church. Kenneth farmed in the Brownsdale area for 30 years. He was always a good neighbor and friend, always helping out when ever he was needed. In his spare time Kenneth enjoyed being a handyman and playing cards at the senior citizen center.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Erma Legler, Austin; daughter, Debra (Jim) Goergen, Austin; sons, Michael (Beverly) Legler, Webster, Minn., Larry (Nancy) Legler, Austin, Charles (Marjean) Legler, Luck, Wis.; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Woodger and twin grandsons, James and Josh.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 7, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church with The Reverend Robert Iverson Officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church.

Herbert Lawrence Karsten 1923-2008
Herbert Lawrence Karsten, age 84, of Austin, Minnesota, died on March 1, 2008 at the Austin Medical Center.
He was born on a farm near Plainview, Minnesota, to Albert Henry and Emma Bertha (Brueske) Karsten on Dec. 15, 1923. He was baptized February 13, 1924 at the Lutheran parsonage. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1941 and worked as a farmhand until enlisting in the Navy in December of 1943. He served as a Radioman Third Class in the South Pacific on the ammunition ship U.S.S. Lakewood Victory during WW II. Following his honorable discharge, he attended Mankato Commercial College and became a bookkeeper for Austin Heating & Sheet Metal. He began working in production at Hormel in 1951 and retired in 1984.
He married Eileen Mae Louise Leeper on May 22, 1954 at Our Savior's
Lutheran Church in Austin with the Reverend G.C. Knutson officiating. Together they raised five children and enjoyed bowling, fishing, taking family vacations, and going to casinos. He also enjoyed playing guitar, reading, and listening to old-time country music. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and Olaf B. Damm Post #1216 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his children, Donna Brown, Onalaska, Wis., Dale Karsten, Mankato, Minn., Rick (Lisa) Karsten, Morristown, Minn., Deb Quinn, Seattle, Wash., Lori Karsten, Austin; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Eileen in 2003, and sister Adeline Bouska.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with Reverend Glenn L. Monson officiating. Organist will be Janet Gilbertson and soloist will be Sarah Brown. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and at the church on Saturday for one hour before the service. Olaf B. Damm Post #1216 V.F.W. and Austin Post #91 American Legion in charge of military rites.
Honorary bearers will be Jessica Quinn, Sarah Brown, Brandis Miller, and Lauren Code. Casket Bearers will be Dustin, Quinn, Jeremy Quinn, Jacob Quinn, Samantha Karsten, Michael Brown, Jacqueline Karsten, and Jacob Karsten.

Christena S. (Robertson) Olsen 1908-2008
Christena S. "Tena" Olsen, age 99, of Austin, Minnesota, died on February 29, 2008 at Praire Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.
She was born April 4, 1908 in Bolan, Iowa to Robert and Athelia (Hanson) Robertson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended rural school near Blooming Prairie. She married Forest Olsen on November 29, 1929 in Austin. Tena enjoyed sewing, gardening, and baby sitting.
Tena is survived by her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Forest in 1989; sisters, Louise Brechtel and Nina Harje; brothers, Holger, Rudolph, Oscar and Hans Robertson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with The Reverend Ron Barnett Officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Saturday for one hour before the service. Music will be by Neal Erickson.
Casket Bearers will be Bruce Brechtel, Bryce and Cathie Haugland, Donna Boyer, Jane Gustafson, and Shelley Anderson.

Hilda C. (Matter) Paape 1912-2008
Hilda was born on January 19, 1912, the daughter of Herman and Anna
(Milius) Matter in Waltham, Minn. She was baptized by the Rev. Hasley and
confirmed by her grandfather, the Rev. F.C. Milius at St. Michael's Church.
Hilda was united in marriage to William Paape on June 12, 1930 at St.
Michael's Lutheran Church. Hilda was very devoted to her husband. She
was an active member of St. Michael's and life-long resident of the
Hayfield and Waltham areas.
Hilda is survived by two sisters, Beata Juhnke, Hayfield, Minn., Anita (Ralph) Senjem, Hayfield; brother, Arnold (Leola) Matter, Waltham, Minn.; one nephew and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Gerhardt Matter.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008, at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in rural Waltham, with Reverend John Heruth officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in rural Waltham. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Hayfield, and one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.

David D. "Dave" Hyland 1949-2008
David D. "Dave" Hyland, 58, of Irving, Texas died Sunday, March 2, 2008 in a Dallas hospital.
Born October 19, 1949 in Austin, he was a 1971 graduate of Augustana Lutheran College in Sioux Falls and was CEO of DKH Enterprises.
He is survived by his wife, Jerri Hyland; children, Jon (Julie) Hyland, Dallas, Eric (Allison) Hyland, Fort Worth, Texas, Elisabeth Hyland, Coppell; grandchildren, Kevin and Jon Charles Hyland; sister, Pamela (Duncan) Hogg, Mt. Clemens, Mich.; stepson, Sean (Tammy) Lashley, Fort Smith, Ark.; four step-grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Lynette Braun, Coppell.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Kenneth Hovland officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Donald Eugene Anderson1936-2008
Donald Eugene Anderson, 71, formerly of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died on Friday, February 29, 2008, at the Conway Regional Medical Center in Conway, Arkansas.
He was born in Austin, Mower County, Minnesota on May 21, 1936, to the late Arthur and Ruth (Peterson) Anderson. He was a retired Administrative Building Official for the State of Minnesota and lived in St. Peter and on Lake Allie. He was a veteran of the Army, having served three years with a tour of Germany. His religious beliefs were Presbyterian and Lutheran. He was a Master Mason and a Shriner. He married Carol Anderson on Aug. 23, 1996, after the death of his first wife, Marlys. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and loved to play the guitar with a passion for listening and playing bluegrass music. He moved to Arkansas eight years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Anderson, Fairfield Bay, Ark.; son, Troy (Jennifer) Anderson, Columbus, Ohio; three daughters, Colette (Kevin) Tauer, Cottage Grove, Jodi Anderson (Oliver Skillings), New Ulm, Amy (Chong) Yu, San Jose, Calif.; three stepchildren, Thaedra Ehrler, Shannon(Tony) Ciszewski, and Erich Ehrler all of Minnesota; thirteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marlys Anderson; three brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church with the Reverend Gene Leiter officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment is at Red Oak Grove Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post 878 and American Legion Post 52. Emil Carl Laack, Sr.1924-2008
Emil Carl Laack Sr., 83, of Austin, Mower County, Minnesota, died on March 2, 2008 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
He was born June 9, 1924 in Waltham, Minn., to Emil and Emilie Laack. Emil served in the Army from 1943-1946. Upon returning to Austin he met and later married Maxine Bly on March 22, 1947 at St. Olaf Church. He was employed at Geo. A. Hormel Co. for over 40 years, retiring in 1982. In 1959, he helped organize Army reunions with his buddies of the 1138th Engineers Battalion. Emil was a life long member of the Eagles, American Legion, and V.F.W. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Emil enjoyed gardening, woodworking and carving, sharing jokes with family and friends. He looked forward to hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. He loved to travel with his wife, Maxine, to visit with friends, relatives and Army buddies. Emil also enjoyed bus trips to the casino.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine, Austin; daughter, Sandra Rumsey, Austin; sons, Emil Jr. "Butch" (Linda) Laack, Austin, Bruce Laack, London, Minn.; brother, Hank (Audrey) Grage, Devine, Texas; sisters-in-law, Donna Grage, Austin, Arlene Tabor, Austin; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by parents, Emil and Emilie Laack; brothers, LaVerne Grage, Julius Grage, Harold Laack; sisters, Dorothy Laack, Viola Laack, Hazel Bauers, Florence Alicia Laack, Irene Bauers, Lucille Hunt; two grandsons, Darrick and Alex Laack; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Iverson officiating. Math Schneider, 65, died Saturday at a hospital in Chicago after a short illness.
He formerly resided south of Adams. Funeral services will be held Friday morning.
Funeral services for Math Schneider, Chicago, will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic church in Johnsburg.
Burial will be in St. John's cemetery. Friends may call at the Adams Funeral home until the time of service. Rosary service will be at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Matthew John Schneider was a son of Sirvatiaus and Mary (Mullenbach) Schneider.
Matthew was born February 28, 1889 at Adams, MN. He was married to Rose Reicherts on September 12, 1916 at Riceville, Iowa.

Isabella Margaret (Hackenmiller) Smith 1914-1999

ADAMS, MINN. -- A funeral Mass will be held for Isabella Margaret Smith at
10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams with the Rev.
Gregory Leif officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic
Cemetery in Johnsburg.
Mrs. Smith, 84, of Adams, a longtime area homemaker, died Monday (July
26, 1999) at the Adams Health Care Center.
Isabella Margaret Hackenmiller was born July 28, 1914, in Meyer, Iowa.
On Jan. 30, 1940, she married Paul Smith at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Meyer and they farmed in the Johnsburg area until moving to Adams in 1983.
Mrs. Smith was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg and its
Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed quilting, bowling, sewing, gardening,
cooking, and playing cards and bingo.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Harlan of Park Forest, Ill.,
Daniel of Minnetonka, Minn., and Gary of Adams; nine grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; three sisters, Magdalen Miller of Spring Grove, Ill.,
Sister Mary Ann Hackenmiller of Springfield, Mo., and Eleanor (Mrs. Kramer)
Elmo of Ackley, Iowa; and a brother, Clarence Hackenmiller of Yakima, Wash.
A son, a daughter and two brothers preceded her in death.
Friends may call at the church from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and an hour
before the service Thursday. The rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. and there
will be a prayer service at 7:30 today at the church.

Paul M. Smith, 84, Adams died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000 at the Adams Health Care Center.
He was born Oct. 19, 1915 near Johnsburg, Minn. to John and Catherine (Gerber) Smith. He attended school in Johnsburg. He married Isabella Hackenmiller on January 30, 1940 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer, Iowa. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg. All of his life he farmed in the Johnsburg area. He was a live stock dealer and an avid baseball fan.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Elizabeth Smith, Park Forest, Ill., Daniel and Barbara Smith, Minnetonka, Gary and Teresa Smith, Adams; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law Alvina Theobald, Richmond, Calif., Marita and Wilmer Michels, Rose Creek; brothers and sisters-in-law Roy and Helen Smith, Rochester, Vernon (Pat) and Marcella Smith, Adams, Magdalena (Maudie) Smith, Adams; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Isabella Smith, James Smith (son), Andrea Smith (daughter), William Smith (brother).

Mary Davis1855-1907
Birth: 1855
Death: Dec. 21, 1907
Mrs. James H. Davis, of this city, who had an operation at the Mayo hospital in Rochester on Wednesday died Saturday. The body was brought here for interment.
She was born in New York state, Oct. 19, 1855. In 1865 she moved with her parents to Wisconsin and was married there to Mr. Davis, June 18, 1879. The family moved to Austin in the summer of 1893. Mr. Davis worked for years for Johnson & Smith and now is employed by Shedd & Wright; Mrs. Davis has been in failing health for some time. She was a woman of many estimable traits of character and her death is sincerely mourned by many.
She leaves a husband and four children. Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church in Austin yesterday forenoon. Deceased was member of the Catholic Church and of the Royal Neighbors.

Mary (Kelley) Cronon1856-1927

Mrs. Mary Cronon
Succumbs Today
at Age 71 Years
Mrs. Mary Cronon passed away at 12:15 this afternoon at St. Olaf hospital, her death resulting from a fall five weeks ago, when her left hip was fractured. She had been blind for several years but she bore her affliction with fortatude and cheerfulness and during her last illness was a patient sufferer.
Mary Kelley was born in Wheeling, W. Va., February 22, 1856. She was married to James Cronon and four children were born to them. Mrs. Agnes Brownrigg of Baudette, Minn., Frank of St. Paul and Miss Ida Cronon of Austin and one daughter, Angela, who died one and a half years ago. Mr. Cronon died twenty years ago.
Besides her three children Mrs. Cronon leaves to mourn her death the following sisters and brothers: Sister M. Angeline of South St. Paul, Matt Kelley of Mason City, Iowa, Will and E. P. Kelley of Minneapolis, and Mrs. P. J. Maloney, Katheryne Kelly and Michael Kelly of St. Paul.
Mrs. Cronon was a lover of home and devoted to her family and church. She resided in Austin a great many years and won a large circle of friends and acquaintances by her pleasing personality and genial nature. She will be missed by her many friends as well as her family.

Dennis Andrew Deneen1897-1965
Birth: Dec. 7, 1897
Death: Nov. 22, 1965
Dennis A. Deneen, 67, of Austin, died Monday at St. Olaf Hospital. He
had been a long-time member of the Mower County Fair Board, the Park Board,
and the Austin Baseball Assn. Board.
Deneen served for years on the Park & Recreation Board and was its
chairman at the time he retired from the Hormel Co., where he was No. 7
on the seniority list with 47 years service.
Deneen retired Jan. 1, 1963. His first job at Hormel in 1915 was in
a testing program in the Fresh Meats Dept., of which the late Jay C.
Hormel was then supervisor.
Deneen later worked as a clerk, then in sales and later billing and
finally accounting.
He was a Legionnaire and prominent in work in the Queen of Angels Church.
Survivors include his widow, Eileen; a son, Dennis J. Deneen, Austin;
three daughters, Mrs. James (Kathleen) Livermore and Mrs. Bernard (Patricia)
Helebrant, Austin; Mrs. Duane (Maxine) Jennings, Plainfield, Ind.; a sister,
Mrs. Paul Popp, San Diego, Calif., and a brother, James Deneen, Evansville,
Ind.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Queen of Angels
Church with Interment at Calvary Cemetery.

Laverne John Gile 1924-1995

AUSTIN, MINN. -- Laverne J. Gile, 71, of 1609 First Ave. S.E., former
manager of Gildner's clothing store, died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 29,
1995 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
He was born Feb. 8, 1925, in Winona County. On July 8, 1950, he married
Marian Johnson at St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie. She
died Dec. 29, 1986.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary (Mrs. Rodney) Wogstad of Austin; two
sons, John and Brian, both of Rochester; 11 grandchildren; a brother,
Bernard "Mac'' McAllister of Austin; and special friend, Evelyn Schleicher,
of Austin.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Friday at
Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin, with the Rev. Virgil Duellman
officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Austin. Military rites
will be conducted by VFW Post 1216.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Friday at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin. There will be a wake service at
7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Avis Louise Babcock Greenlee 1931-1999

Avis Louise Greenlee, 67, Park Rapids, formerly of Austin, died on Friday, Nov. 19, 1999 at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids following a lingering illness.
Avis was born Dec. 23, 1931 to Charles Lloyd and Charlotte Louise (Ward)
Babcock, As a young girl, she moved to Austin, where she attended country
school and grew into womanhood. There she met Maynard Eugene Greenlee and
fell in love. The young couple were united in marriage on Feb. 7, 1953, at
Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. This union was blessed with five
children. She devoted herself to making a warm and loving home for her
husband and children. When her children were young, she was active as a Cub
Scout leader. She was a wonderful baker and will be long remembered for her
special cakes. She enjoyed working with her hands doing cross stitch and
plastic canvas. She would often work late into the night to meet the needs
of her growing family. Avis and Maynard made their home in Austin until
1986, when they moved to Park Rapids. There she assisted her husband in
managing the Edgewater Motel and the Travelers Motel and Cafe. Most recently,
she had been answering phones for Ken's Fix-It business.
She was a long time member of the Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and looked forward to raising a beautiful rose garden every year. Above all she dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathie and Bob Pickett, Park Rapids, Susan and Walter Wollenburg, Austin; three sons, Paul and Marcy Greenlee, Stonington, Ill., Michael and Peggy Greenlee, Wabasso, Minn., and Dale Greenlee, Austin; 16 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; her mother Charlotte Babcock, Grand Rapids; two sisters Carma Branstner, Bovey, Minn., JoAnn and Milo Aakhus, Effie, Minn.; three brothers: Nathan Babcock, Fridley, Lloyd "Butch" Babcock, Santee, Calif., and Dennis and Starr Babcock, Maple Grove, Minn; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Maynard in 1997, her father Charles Babcock in 1971, a sister Wanda in childhood, an adopted grandson Justin; and a nephew, Chris.
Organist will be Shirley Cahill.
Casketbearers will be Paul Greenlee, Jason Greenlee, Walter Wollenburg, Steven Wollenburg, Dale Greenlee and Michael Greenlee. Honorary casketbearers will be her grandchildren.
Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Austin, with Fr. Virgil Duellman officiating.
Interment: Calvary Catholic Cemetery
Visitation: 3:30-6 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home of Park Rapids, and from 6-8 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Queen of Angels Church in Austin. A luncheon will be hosted by the ladies of the church following the service.

Margaret K. Greenlee, 93, died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at the Adams
Health Care Center.
She was born Sept. 12, 1909, in Clear Lake, Iowa, to Frank A. and Anna
C. (Frank) Leachman.
On Nov. 19, 1926, she married Howard W. Greenlee Sr. He died February
4, 1976.
Survivors include sons, Howard Jr. (Bobbie) Greenlee, Rose Creek; Ronald
Greenlee, Austin; Robert (Kathy) Greenlee, Sioux Falls, S.D.; daughters,
JoAnn (Arnold) Haney, Fairfax, Okla.; Beverly Hungerford, Austin;
grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren;
brother, John Leachman, Austin.
She was also preceded in death by children, Marcella Waller and Maynard
Greenlee; and grandson, Chris Greenlee.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. this evening and one hour before the service
tomorrow at the funeral home.
Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at the funeral home with
Father Paul Nelson officiating. Casket bearers will be Heath Greenlee,

Chris Michael Greenlee1978-1996

Death: Nov. 30, 1996
ROSE CREEK -- The funeral for Chris M. Greenlee, 18, of Rose Creek was Dec. 2 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rose Creek with the Revs. Ruben Spinter and Clayton Haverman co-officiating. He died Nov. 30 in Rose Creek.
Born Feb. 20, 1978, in Austin, he graduated from Southland High School in Adams and as a student there received many academic and sports awards, was captain of the football team and was a member of homecoming royalty. He was a pre-med student at St. Thomas University in St. Paul. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and riding horses.
Survivors include his parents, Howard and Bobbie Greenlee of Rose Creek; a brother, Heath at home; and paternal grandmother, Margaret Greenlee of Rose Creek. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and maternal granfather.
Mayer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

AUSTIN -- The funeral for Donald T. Greenlee will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Church of Christ in Austin, with the Rev. Ron Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin.
Mr. Greenlee, 84, of Route 5, Austin, a retired Hormel Foods Corp. employee, died early today (July 10, 1996) at Austin Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 24, 1912, in Wessington Springs, S.D. On June 8, 1935, he married Mabel Keist in Austin.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carol (Mrs. Harold) Wilson of Lowell, Ark.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Gae Grover and Shirley (Mrs. Harold) Gomer, both of Austin. He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, a great-granddaughter, three brothers and a sister.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin and an hour before the service Friday at the church.

AUSTIN -- Elmer H. Greenlee, 90, of Austin died Friday (Nov. 5, 1993) at St. Mark's Lutheran Home here.
He was born Aug. 14, 1903, in Deep River, Iowa. He attended a country school in the Osage, Iowa, area and moved to Austin in 1929. He married Gertrude Allas here on Jan. 18, 1930 and worked for the George A. Hormel Co. for a short period before farming in the Adams area. He retired in 1963 and moved back to Austin.
Survivors include three sons, Alvin of Northfield, Minn., Kenneth of Fridley, Minn., and Charles of International Falls, Minn.; a daughter, Judy (Mrs. Charles) Joel of Austin, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, a grandchild, three brothers and four sisters.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Clasen-Jordan Chapel in Austin, with the Rev. David Matt officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.
Friends may call at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until the service Monday.

AUSTIN -- Donald L. Hanzlicek, 79, of 700 First Drive N.W. and a retired Geo. A. Hormel & Co. employee, died Sunday morning (Dec. 13, 1992) at his home.
He was born July 1, 1913, in Blooming Prairie and graduated from Blooming Prairie High School. On June 11, 1938, he married Marsine Toresdahl at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Mark of Owatonna; two daughters, Marie (Mrs. Milo) Hofius of Elk River, Minn., and Madonna (Mrs. Joseph) Nitzke of Sioux City, Iowa; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Josephine (Mrs. Robert F.) Hart of Austin.
The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church here, with the Rev. Paul Evers officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Austin.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday today and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mayer Funeral Home here. The Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday today followed by a wake service at 7 p.m.

Marsine S. Hanzlicek, age 86, of Austin, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002 at Prairie Manor Nursing Home, Blooming Prairie.
She was born Feb. 13, 1915, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, to Swen and Thea (Toresdahl) Tollackson. She attended school and graduated from Eagle Grove High School.
In June 1938, she married Donald Hanzlicek at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Austin.
She was a homemaker and previously worked at Hormel Foods and volunteered at St. Augustine Grade School.
She was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Ann's unit at St. Augustine Church and was active in mission work for the Catholic Church.
Her hobbies included playing the drums in the Kitchen Band at the Cedars of Austin and playing bridge.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Jean Hanzlicek, Owatonna; daughters and son-in-law, Marie Hofius, Elk River; Madonna and Joseph Nitzke, Sioux City, Iowa; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Adeline Orness, Rocky River, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; brothers, Alvin and James.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, with a 4 p.m. CCW rosary and a 6:30 p.m. wake service and Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Service: 10:30 a.m., Friday, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating. Casket bearers will be Greta Nitzke, Matthew Kolb, Josh Hanzlicek, Dan Newkirk, Keith Rischmiller and Mike Walerak.

Robert E. "Bob" Hanf 1939-2005

Death: Feb. 22, 2005
Austin--Robert E. Hanf, age 65, of Austin, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 at the Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Bob was born Oct. 18, 1939 in Austin to Eugene and Florence (Hart) Hanf. He was a second generation owner/operator of Bell Liquor. Bob started working with his father at the age of twelve and took over full operations in 1982. He passed the operations down to his daughter, Hollie in 1999. Bob just recently sold the business in January 2005.
Bob was a 4th Degree Knight. He enjoyed golfing, traveling with friends, fishing, spending time with family, and daily visits with his card buddies at his uptown office.
Survivors include his wife: Carol Hanf, Austin, Minn.; children: Terry, Davenport, Fla., Mark, Austin, Minn., DeeAnn, Fort Smith, Ark., Hollie, Austin, Minn.; nine grandchildren; sisters: Sue (Sherb) Roberts, Austin, Minn., Angela Hanf, Austin, Minn.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Eugene and Florence Hanf.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 28, 2005 at the Church of St. Augustine with Father Paul Nelson officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 6-8 p.m. and also from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with an honor guard by the Knights of Columbus council #1201.
The casket bearers will be Nick Williamson, Mitch Williamson, Mike Williamson, Nate Williamson, Chris Iovinelli, and Corey Iovinelli.

Wayne B. Hartson 1914-1993

AUSTIN -- Wayne B. Hartson, 78, of 403 18th St. N.W., former owner of Wayne's Liquor Store and a retired real estate salesman, died Tuesday evening (May 25, 1993) at St. Olaf Hospital here.
Born Aug. 30, 1914, in Lyle, he grew up there and graduated from Lyle High School in 1932. He attended St. Olaf College in Northfield for two years and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1936 with a degree in business administration. On Aug. 3, 1941, he married Virginia Huinker in Las Vegas. Mr. Hartson was a World War II veteran.
He was mayor of Lyle for 12 years and owned and operated Hartson Locker there for 20 years. For eight years he owned and operated Wayne's Liquor Store in Austin and from 1972 until his retirement, sold real estate for John Lindberg Real Estate.
Survivors include his wife; a son, George of Minneapolis; two daughters, Laurie Hartson of Austin, Texas, and Theresa Hartson of Minneapolis; and a sister, Eva Sexton of Minneapolis. A brother preceded him in death.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Mayer Funeral Home here, with the Rev. Donald Zenk officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Austin.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until time of the service Friday at the funeral home.

AUSTIN -- Gerald S. Healy, 62, of 604 Fourth Ave. S.W., a professor and private consultant for a number of universities and companies, died Friday (Sept. 18, 1992) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Born Jan. 24, 1930, in Clarendon, Pa., he married Mary Hedges June 13, 1960, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Blacksburg, Va. Mr. Healy was a Marine veteran.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Terry of Baltimore, Md., and Timothy of Minneapolis; four daughters, Guinevere Healy of Minneapolis, Maureen (Mrs. Lance) Palmer of Aurora, Colo., Seana (Mrs. Joe) Nestegard of Duluth, Ga., and Kathleen (Mrs. Tyler) Nyberg of New Ulm, Minn.; two grandchildren; his mother and stepfather, George and Alma Miller of Austin; and a half brother, Tom Healy of Johnson City, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his father, a stepfather and a grandson.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, with the Rev. Paul Evers officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Austin with military graveside rites by the Austin American Legion and VFW.

AUSTIN -- Marjorie T. Heimer, 76, formerly of 612 11th Ave. S.W., died Wednesday morning (Nov. 20, 1991) at Ahgwahching Center in Walker, Minn.
Born Marjorie T. LaValley on Aug. 24, 1915, in Freeborn County, she was a retired Geo. A. Hormel & Co. employee. She was married and later divorced.
Survivors include a son, Vernon of Brighton, Colo.; two daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Dick) Wold of Austin and Lani (Mrs. Ralph) Delgado of Hollandale, Minn.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Elizabeth Monty of Austin and Lucille Eberle of Silver Spring, Md.
