AUSTIN, MINNESOTA -- The funeral for Wesley James Matter will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Crane Community Chapel in Austin with the Rev. Joe Matt officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin with military graveside rites by the Marine Corps and VFW.

Mr. Matter, 72, of 606 First Ave. S.W., a former barber and school engineer, died Monday (Feb. 2, 1998) at Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis after a long illness with cancer.

Born March 1, 1925, in Austin, he grew up in the Lyle area, graduated from high school and attended barber school. In May 1942, he joined the Marines, saw active duty in the South Pacific and was discharged in 1945. From January 1950 to January 1951 he returned to active duty as a staff sergeant at El Toro Marine Base in California and remained in the inactive reserves until 1958. On Jan. 12, 1947, he married Dorothy Rosenberg at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, Iowa. A barber for nearly 50 years, he worked in Lyle and Albert Lea and later owned several shops in Austin until the 1960s. He then worked for Austin Public Schools and retired as chief engineer at Ellis School in 1987. Mr. Matter was a member of Crane Community Chapel and was secretary of its Men's Club, was a 50-year member of VFW Post 1216 and American Legion Post 91, and a member of the Eagles Aeire No. 703. He enjoyed nature, traveling, camping, fishing, reading, carpentry, music and painting.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dennis of Fridley, Minn., and Rick of Austin; a daughter, Lori (Mrs. Rick) Conner of Minneapolis; a grandson; three brothers, Robert of Austin, Henry of Denver, Colo., and David of Fremont, Neb.; and three sisters, Marjorie (Mrs. Rex) Howe of Independence, Mo., Kathleen (Mrs. Kaljo) Pihelgas of Lyle and Beverly Martin of Austin. He was preceded in death by a son, four brothers and a sister.

Mary E. Matthews, age 98, of Austin, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

She was born Aug. 7, 1908, in Iroquois, South Dakota, to Spencer and Mary (Penniston) Jordan. In 1916, when she was eight, her family moved to Austin, where her father Spencer Jordan started the Jordan Mortuary. She graduated from Austin High School and later from Winona State Teachers College. She taught school in Dexter for several years before she married Harry Matthews on June 18, 1932. She was later employed as a bookkeeper for her brothers at the Jordan Builders in Austin.

Mary was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and Unity Chapter #29 Order of the Eastern Star.

Mary is survived by a daughter, Susan (Lowell) Hagedorn, of Waverly, Minnesota; by grandchildren: Jeffrey (Luanne) Rogers, of Eveleth, Minnesota; Greg Rogers, of Maple Plain, Minn.; Julie (Gary) Riddle, of Albertville, Minnesota; Christine (Gerard) Lepak, of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; Brad Matthews, of Austin; Jill (Troy) Rickheim, of Burnsville, Minnesota; Dana (Paul) Legried, of Austin; by 14 great-grandchildren; by a daughter-in-law, Marian Matthews, of Austin; and by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Harry, in 1991; by her son, David Matthews; and by brothers, Loren, Arlo, and Clinton Jordan.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 5, 2007, at Christ Episcopal Church, with Father Scott Monson officiating. The organist was Gretchen Zinsli, the soloist was Erin Schumacher. Casket bearers were: Jeffrey Rogers, Greg Rogers, Brad Matthews, Trevor White, Gary Riddle, and Gerard Lepak. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.

JOHNSBURG, MINNESOTA -- Gerianne "Geri" Mullenbach, 40, of Johnsburg, died Sunday (Jan. 14, 1996) at Austin Medical Center.

The former Gerianne Mauer was born Nov. 11, 1955, in Osage, Iowa. She graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1974. On Jan. 6, 1979, she married Anthony Mullenbach at Visitation Church in Stacyville, Iowa. A member of St. John's Catholic Church in Johnsburg, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, camping and sewing. In addition, she was a member of the St. Johns C.C.W. and National Catholic Society of Foresters.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Cara, Dawn and Erin and three sons, Adam, Brad and Evan, all at home; her parents, Dale and Theresa Mauer of Stacyville, Iowa; four brothers, Stephen Mauer of Loveland, Colo., Stanley Mauer of Cannon City, Colo., Wayne Mauer of Pacific Junction, Iowa, and Shawn Mauer of Stacyville; and five sisters, Patricia (Mrs. Craig) Farlinger of West Liberty, Iowa, Peg (Mrs. James) Bruggeman of Toeterville, Iowa, Lisa (Mrs. Carl) Farlinger and Michelle (Mrs. Paul) Halbach, both of St. Ansgar, Iowa and Pamela (Mrs. James) Brincks of Mason City, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Johns Catholic Church in Johnsburg, with the Rev. Gregory Leif officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Visitation Church Hall in Stacyville, where there will be a 3 p.m. Rosary service and a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Friends may also call from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church.

Mrs. McAlister, 79, of 200 18th St. S.E., a homemaker, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997 at Comforcare Care Center in Austin.

Adeline G. Hauglum was born May 21, 1917, in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1935. On July 26, 1945, she married Guy McAlister in Austin. Mrs. McAlister was a lifetime member of St. Olaf Lutheran Churcn.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Brian of Austin; two daughters, Carol Hanson of Prescott, Ariz., and Ann (Mrs. Robert) Galligani of Farmington, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A brother preceded her in death.

Friends may call an hour before the service Monday at the funeral home.

Delores L. McAlister, 73, of Mapleview, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home, Austin.

She was born Jan. 28, 1930, to Edward J. and Minnie (Brechtel) Klingfus in Austin.

On Oct. 9, 1946, she married Don W. McAlister in Sioux Falls, S.D. The couple moved to Mapleview where Delores was a homemaker, enjoying sewing, cooking and playing bingo, as well as spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Don McAlister, Mapleview; daughters, Kathy (Pete) Hancock, Mapleview; Julie (John) Wood, Mapleview; Rhonda (Marv) Eckert, Austin; son, Randy (Shelly) McAlister, Austin; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Chester Klingfus, Austin; Roger (Alyce) Klingfus, Waterloo, Iowa; David (Val) Klingfus, Austin; Jim (Ardie) Klingfus, Stewartville; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters, three daughters and her parents.

Donald W. McAlister, 75, of Mapleview, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

He was born May 28, 1929, to Charles H. and Hazel G. (Wood) McAlister in Stewartville.

On Oct. 9, 1946, he married Delores L. Klingfus in Sioux Falls, S.D. They lived in Mapleview for over 57 years. Donald worked at Hormel Foods for more than 37 years. A member of the Church of Christ, he was also a volunteer fireman in Mapleview.

He enjoyed stock car racing, spending time with his family and pets, hunting with friends and working as a mechanic.

Survivors include his children, Kathy (Pete) Hancock, Mapleview; Julie (John) Wood, Mapleview; Randy (Shelly) McAlister, Austin; Rhonda (Marv) Eckert, Austin; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Rosella (Kenneth) Nash; brothers, Lawrence (Jeanine) McAlister and Raymond (Alida) McAlister, all of Mapleview; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three daughters and two brothers.

Eleanor E. Erickson, 87, of Austin, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Sacred Heart Care Center, Austin.

She was born May 29, 1916, in Pleasant Grove to Charles and Mary (Brown) McAlister. She married Lloyd (Whitey) Erickson on April 28, 1939, in Austin. She was a member of the Church of Christ and a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family. Her hobbies included fishing, traveling, camping and reading.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and Garth Seavey of Austin and Sharon and David Hall of Savage; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Connie Erickson of Rochester and Gary and Mary Erickson of Owatonna; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, R.W. (Bill) McAlister of Austin and Guy McAlister of Austin; sisters-in-law, Eileen Keist of Austin, Donna Earl of Edina and Ardelle Erickson of Austin; brother-in-law, Gene Rutledge of Austin; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, one sister and a granddaughter.

Kim Ellen McAlister was born Aug. 28, 1959, in Austin, the daughter of Phyllis McAlister and the late Herbert McAlister.

She attended Lincoln Elementary School, Ellis Junior High School, and Austin High School.   Kim was baptized Dec. 6, 1959, at the First Methodist Church, Austin.

Kim died April 28, 1978.

Surviving are her mother; two brothers, Bill McAlister stationed in the navy in San Diego, Calif., Jack McAlister, Austin; two sisters, Kris and Kathy McAlister, Austin; aunts; uncles; cousins.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., April 30, 1978, at Mayer Funeral Home, Rev. Joe Matt officiating.   Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.   Mrs. Richard Schindler was organist and Gerald Wakefield, soloist.   Pallbearers were Lynn McAlister, Charles Tubbs, William Kenny, Thomas Kenny, Roger Dixon.

AUSTIN, MINN. -- Kimberly Reena Kominek McAlister, 32, of 402 16th St. S.E. died Tuesday (June 1, 1993) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Kimberly Reena Kominek was born Nov. 12, 1960, in Austin, and graduated from Austin High School. On Feb. 2, 1980, she married Randy McAlister.

In addition to her husband, Randy, she is survived by her parents, Edwin "Pete" and Nita Kominek of Austin; two brothers, Dean and James, both of Austin; and two sisters, Marsha Miller and Kathy Kominek, both of Austin.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin, with the Rev. Bruce Wilder officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Phyllis I. Tubbs was born Nov. 27, 1933, in Osage, Iowa, and grew up there. On Aug. 21, 1951, she married Herbert McAlister and they made their home in Austin. Mr. McAlister died June 1, 1977.

Survivors include two sons, Bill (Sandy) and Jack (Carol), both of Austin; two daughters, Kris (John) Wobschall and Kathy Pike, both of Austin; 11 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; a brother, Charles (Barb) Tubbs of Oelwein, Iowa; and a sister, Joan (Bill) Kenny of Osage. A daughter preceded her in death.

Rufus William "Bill" McAlister, 96, of Austin died Tuesday March 23, 2004 at the Sacred Heart Health Care Center where he was a resident.

He was born March 11, 1908 in Chatfield, to Charles and Nellie (Brown) McAlister. On March 10, 1931 he married Anna Josephine Smothers in Austin. Bill retired from the Hormel Company after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Eagles and American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, hunting, camping, golfing, and bowling. He loved music.

Survivors include sons Robert (Shirley) McAlister, Grand Marais; Lynn (Linda) McAlister, St. Louis, MO; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; brother Guy (Mary) McAlister, Austin.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo; son Herb; and granddaughter Kim.

Mrs. McAlister, 80, of Rogers, Ark., formerly of Austin, died May 9, 2003, at her home.

Muriel Jensen was born May 23, 1922, in Alden, Minn. On May 20, 1948, she married Kenneth McAlister. He died Jan. 16, 1991. She was a homemaker and moved to Rogers from Austin in 1981.

Survivors include two sons, Terry L. Sr. of Sulphur Springs, Ark., and Rodney K. of Austin; two daughters, Sherry Ann Gilbertson of Fayetteville, Ark., and Roxanne Johansen of Garfield, Ark.; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Grant Hansen of Little Rock, Ark., Lloyd Jensen of Denver, Colo., and Russell Jensen of Atlantic, Iowa.

AUSTIN, MINN. -- Russell "Irish" McAllister, 78, of 911 14th Ave. S.E, a retired Geo. A. Hormel & Co. employee, died Tuesday morning (July 21, 1992) at his home after a lengthy illness.

Born Sept. 15, 1913 in Money Creek, Minn., he married Eleanor Hackman on Oct. 11, 1941, in Austin.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ronald of Austin and Gary of Rochester; two daughters, Janet (Mrs. John Paul) Jones of Rochester and Debra (Mrs. Robert) Embrickson of Austin; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Bernard McAllister and LaVern Gile, both of Austin.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin, with the Rev. Rick Colletti officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Austin.

AUSTIN, MINN. -- Walter F. McAllister, 80, of Austin died Thursday night at his home of cancer.

Born May 30, 1911, in Fremont, Minn., he married Florence DuBois on Nov. 9, 1935, at Winona. He served in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and 1946.

He was a retired employee of Geo. A. Hormel & Co.

Survivors include his wife, Florence of Austin; two daughters, June (Mrs. Ralph) Schammel and Diane (Mrs. Anthony) Feeley, both of Austin; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Russell and Bernard of Austin and Laverne Gile, also of Austin. He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Queen of Angels Catholic Church, with the Rev. Paul Evers officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m Sunday at the Mayer Funeral Home, where a 7:30 p.m. wake service will be held.

Lorraine Evenson McCaffrey, age 82, of Lawrenceville, Georgia. (and formerly of Austin, Minnesota), died on May 13, 2007.

Lorraine was born on November 3, 1924 in Austin. She worked for Hormel Foods in Austin and retired after working for Hormel for many years out in Los Angeles, California. After a short retirement, she worked for several years for White King Soap Co. She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin and Faith Lutheran in Sun City.

Lorraine is survived by her son, Bill McCaffrey and his wife, Mary Miles; by grandsons, Andy and Ty McCaffrey, all of Lawrenceville, Georgia; by a sister, Elaine Cue of Webster City, Iowa; by another sister, Dorothy Stephenson of Dexter, Minnesota; and by a brother, Melvin Evenson of Michigan;

She was preceded in death by her parents, Even and Olga Evenson; by brothers: Pearly, Barney and Donald; and by her sister, Evelyn McCawley.

A Memorial Service was held on Friday, May 18, 2007, at Christ the Lord Lutheran Church, Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Rita McDermott, 79, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Friday, June 1, 2007 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Rita Enriquita Lopez was born October 29, 1927 in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii to Lope and Olympia (Christobal) Lopez. While in Hawaii Rita was a timekeeper at Pearl Harbor.

She was married on March 2, 1951 to Howard Henry McDermott, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Following their marriage Rita was a homemaker.

Rita was a charter member of the women's 600 club, as well as President for 15 years. She was a deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church, a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the VFW, an artist -- photocoloring and tinting black and white photographs -- and a seamstress who loved to sew dresses, suits and purses.

Howard and Rita had a summer home on Island Lake in Northome, Minnesota.

Survivors include her husband, Howard McDermott, Austin; her children: Laura (Gerard) Judd, Apple Valley, Minnesota; Rodney (Jean) McDermott, Austin, Minnesota; Anita McDermott, Eagan, Minnesota; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brothers: Eleino (Ann) Lopez, Honolulu, Hawaii; Frederico Lopez, Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii; Francisco Lopez, Pearl City, Oahu, Hawaii; Richard (Connie) Lopez, Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lope and Olympia Lopez; by four sisters and two brothers; and by a granddaughter, Vanessa Judd.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Andrew Lindahl officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.

Eleanor E. McGuiness passed away at the age of 87, on May 2, 2007 in Vancouver, Washington. Ellie was born on April 19, 1920, in Lynn, Massachusetts.

Ellie received her RN degree from Passaic General Hospital in New Jersey in 1941. She met her husband, Dr. James W. McGuiness, at Great Lakes Naval base in 1945. After the war, they moved to Austin, Minnesota, where they raised their family of five children. Jim practiced dentistry for 27 years in Austin, and they then moved to Mandeville, Louisiana, where he taught at LSU School of Dentistry. They retired to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1996, and Jim passed away in 1999. Ellie moved to Vancouver in 2004.

Ellie was known for her generous heart, caring deeply for others, and her spunky spirit.

She was preceded in her death by her daughter, Ann McGuiness; her husband, Jim McGuiness; her mother Mabel Pearson; and her brothers: Richard and George Pearson.

She is survived by her five children: Greg McGuiness of Rochester, Minnesota; Phillip McGuiness of Vancouver; Lynn Bergeson of Fountain Hills, Arizona; Laurie Hartwig, of Des Moines, Iowa; and James McGuiness, of Dallas, Texas; by 11 grandchildren; and by one great-grandchild.

A memorial service was held at the First United Methodist Church in Vancouver, Washington, on May 18, 2007.

AUSTIN, MINNESOTA -- A memorial Mass will be conducted for Helen V. Williamson at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin, with the Rev. Virgil Duellman officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.

Mrs. Williamson, 78, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, formerly of Austin, died early Tuesday (Aug. 13, 1996) at her home.

Helen V. McMichael was born Aug. 8, 1918, and was a 1936 graduate of Austin High School. She worked for Hormel Foods Corp. and was an operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. Mrs. Williamson was a charter member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Her first husband, Steve Flaherty, died June 15, 1957. Her second husband, Ken Williamson, died Oct. 14, 1975.

Survivors include three children, Martin J. Williamson of Alden, Iowa, and Sandrakay J. Williamson and Stanley Williamson, both of Austin; six grandchildren; and a brother, Lloyd McMichael of Minnetonka, Minn. Two brothers preceded her in death.

Mayer Funeral Home in Austin is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation or reviewal.

 

LaNelle Marguerite McNutt, age 88 of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday evening, March 17, 2007, at Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.

She was born Jan. 23, 1919, in Sheldon, Iowa, the daughter of Harry Henry and Anna Agnes (Frohwein) Hosch. She attended school in Sheldon, graduating from Sheldon High School in 1936.

On Aug. 14, 1943, she was united in marriage to Merle McNutt in Chicago, Ill. In 1946, LaNelle graduated from Colorado State College of Education. The couple moved to Minnesota where they lived and farmed near Sargeant for 46 years. LaNelle taught school for 31 years, teaching in Grand Meadow, Minn. for 29 years, and retired in 1989.

Education was very important to LaNelle and she was proud of her years in the education profession. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Hayfield American Legion Auxiliary. In 2002, the couple moved to The Cedars in Austin and in 2005, LaNelle moved to the Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie.

Survivors include her husband, Merle McNutt, of Heather Haus, Blooming Prairie; her three children: Melanie (Lorne) Campbell of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; Marsonda Schroeder of Grand Forks, North Dakota; and Mace (Danette) McNutt of Faribault, Minnesota; her two grandsons, Casey Hosch McNutt and Connor Jay McNutt; her sister, Helen (Bill) Reekers, of Sheldon, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and two sisters.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2007, at First United Methodist Church in Austin with Rev. Patricia Toschak officiating. Interment is to be held at a later date, in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield, Minnesota. The Worlein Funeral Home is handling arrangements for the family.

Shirley Ann Medrano, age 56, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, at the Albert Lea Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 17, 1950, to Clifford and Loretta (Kinney) Shuck in Austin, Minnesota. She grew up in Austin and attended Austin High School.

In April 1985, Shirley married Pedro C. Medrano in Albert Lea. She worked for various companies, including Land O'Lakes, Winnebago, Schweigert, Ring Can, and Wal Mart, and attended the Albert Lea Church of Christ.

Shirley was a giving and loving person who had a gentle soul. She loved singing with her grandchildren and teaching them songs. She put everyone in her life ahead of herself. The most important thing in Shirley's life was her family and the love of her life, Pedro.

Survivors include her husband, Pedro; her children: Roque Medrano and Beth, Angie Medrano and Jake, and Rosa Medrano and Kevin; her grandchildren: Desiree Medrano, Destiny Medrano, Makenna Christenson and Hayden Christenson; her sisters: Diane (Robert) Newton; Betty (Raymond) Musel; and Elizabeth (Larry) Thompson; her brothers: Gerald (Sandy) Shuck; Donald Shuck; and Gary (Jackie) Shuck; her five brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Steven; her father-in-law; and a brother-in-law.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at Church of Christ Christian. Pastor Mike Gerhardt officiated. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Gladys M. Meinert, 91, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Monday, April 23, 2007 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

Gladys Hagan was born Aug. 4, 1915 in Red Rock Township, Mower County, Minnesota, to Stephen and Charlotte (Herington) Hagan. She graduated from St. Augustine High School and received a teaching degree from Austin Normal Teacher's Training College. She taught in the country schools for eight years. After teaching, Gladys worked for 36 years for Martin Bustad as a bookkeeper.

On Nov. 28, 1953 she married William Meinert at St. Augustine Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1996.

Gladys was an active member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, WCCW, and a member of St. Delores Devota unit. She enjoyed geneology and traveling.

Survivors include two sisters, Irene Corbett, Peoria, Illinois, Lois Kaput, Lyle, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Martha Hagan, Austin, Jeanne Hagan, Austin; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; by her parents; by six brothers: Milo, Paul, Leo, Dan, Bernard and David; by two sisters, Luella and Rosemary.

A funeral mass was celebrated on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Austin.

The casket bearers wiere: Donald Hagan, Dwayne Hagan, Scott Ellis, Mary Ann Hagan, Barbara Roskop and Jason Hagan.

The Mayer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Clarence Meyer of Lyle, 88, who died at his home May 19, were held May 22 at Six Mile Grove Lutheran church, Lyle, with the Rev. Gaylord Grant officiating.

Clarence Andrew Meyer, son of Christian and Christina Sampson Meyer, was born February 5, 1891 in Nevada Township.

Clarence married Clara Larson at her home in Mona February 24, 1915. She passed away November 7, 1930. He farmed on the family farm where he was born, grew up and lived for his lifetime, except for a few years when he farmed near Rosholt, S.D.

He was a life time member of Six Mile Grove Lutheran church. He attended Pinehurst School and the Seminary in St. Ansgar. He served on the school board and had church offices for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias.

Mr. Meyer is survived by two sons, Kenneth Meyer of Lyle and Clayton D. Meyer of Austin, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and one sister.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; two sisters, Sophie and Mae; three brothers, Lauritz, Olaves and Henry; one grandson, David.

 

AUSTIN, MINNESOTA -- Willetta Meyer, 89, of Austin, a lifelong area resident, died Monday (Oct. 9, 1995) at Austin Medical Center.

Willetta Hanson was born Aug. 11, 1906, in near Lyle in Nevada Township, Mower County, and attended Gregg country schools. She married Herbert Meyer April 24, 1929, in Lyle.

Survivors include two sons, Loren of St. Ansgar, Iowa, and Durwood of Owatonna; two daughters, Marilyn Murphy of Sacramento, Calif., and Carolyn Gautschi of Andover, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Burnettacq Anderson of Austin; and a brother, Lloyd Hanson of Lyle. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and two sisters.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, with the Rev. James I. Mikkelson officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin.

Friends may call an hour before the service Friday at the church.

AUSTIN, MINNESOTA -- Jerry Michels, age 80, of Austin, Minnesota, died peacefully on April, 12, 2007 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. A funeral mass was celebrated on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, in Austin, with Father Dale Tupper officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery.

Jerry was born April 8, 1927 in Osage, Iowa, to Roman and Bertha (Pint) Michels.

On May 4, 1949 he married Lucella "Sally" Hemann in Meyer, Iowa. He was a faithful member and usher at Queen of Angels Catholic Church for many years. Jerry was employed at International Harvester in Osage, Iowa and Austin, Minnesota servicing farm machinery as well as a diesel mechanic for almost 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Sally Michels of Austin, Minnesota; three daughters: Judy Schipull of Mankato, Minnesota, Mary Jane (Michael) Baldus of Burnsville, Minnesota, Julie (Greg) Mullenbach of Austin; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five sisters: Marcella Hackenmiller of Stacyville, Iowa, Joan Tatone of Mason City, Iowa, Darlene Hemann of Osage, Annette Sonbert of Osage, Margaret Harvey of Loveland, Colorado; and by a brother, Bill Michels, Fresno, California.

He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Dale Schipull; by a brother,Lavern Michels; and by his parents, Roman and Bertha Michels.
