Rita McDermott, 79, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Friday,
June 1, 2007 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Rita Enriquita Lopez was born October 29, 1927 in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii
to Lope and Olympia (Christobal) Lopez. While in Hawaii Rita was a
timekeeper at Pearl Harbor.
She was married on March 2, 1951 to Howard Henry McDermott, in
Honolulu, Hawaii. Following their marriage Rita was a homemaker.
Rita was a charter member of the women's 600 club, as well as President
for 15 years. She was a deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church, a life
member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the VFW, an artist -- photocoloring and
tinting black and white photographs -- and a seamstress who loved to sew
dresses, suits and purses.
Howard and Rita had a summer home on Island Lake in Northome, Minnesota.
Survivors include her husband, Howard McDermott, Austin; her children:
Laura (Gerard) Judd, Apple Valley, Minnesota; Rodney (Jean) McDermott,
Austin, Minnesota; Anita McDermott, Eagan, Minnesota; six grandchildren
and one great-grandchild; brothers: Eleino (Ann) Lopez, Honolulu, Hawaii;
Frederico Lopez, Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii; Francisco Lopez, Pearl City, Oahu,
Hawaii; Richard (Connie) Lopez, Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lope and Olympia Lopez; by four
sisters and two brothers; and by a granddaughter, Vanessa Judd.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at
Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Andrew Lindahl officiating.
Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.
The Mayer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
