Judy Ann (Brown) (Uzlik) Kearney

1940-2007

Judy Ann Uzlik Kearney, age 66, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at her home in Dorchester, Iowa.

She was born Dec. 25, 1940, to Clelle and Viva (Coudding) Brown in Austin. She graduated from Austin High School in 1958.

After working at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, she moved to California. Returning to Minnesota, she worked for the Mower County Probation Office for a time. A certified public accountant, she started an accounting office in the 1970's, providing accounting and income tax services for over 35 years. She married John Kearney on Aug. 18, 1995, in Houston, Texas.

A member of Minnesota Association of Public Accountants, Judy loved working with people. She moved to Iowa in 1996 but commuted to her business until retirement.

Survivors include her husband, John Kearney, of Dorchester, Iowa; her three sons: Gary Uzlik, Jr., of Austin; Ronald (Carmen) Uzlik, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; Lance Uzlik, of Austin; her stepdaughter, Barbara (Justin) Voge; her five grandchildren; her sisters: Dixie (Elmer) Mytten, of Wabasha, Minn.; and Betty (Joseph) Mather; brothers: James (Karen) Brown, of Custer, South Dakota; and Jerry (Jesse) Bootenhoff, of Roshron, Texas; her sisters-in-law: Kaye (James) Strand, of Mesa, Arizona; and Mary Jean McGinty, of Glenwood; and her step-sister, Treva (Emil) Raider, of Mesa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clelle Brown and Viva Lisk; brother-in-law, Charles McGinty; parents-in-law, Franze and Muriel Kearney.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, March 10, at First United Methodist Church in Austin, with Rev. Patricia Toschak officiating. Interment was in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. The Worlein Funeral Home of Austin was in charge of arrangements.

Grace (Keenan) Swygman

1910-1999

Birth: Aug. 24, 1910
Death: Feb. 20, 1999

There will be a private memorial service for Grace Keenan Swygman at a later date. Burial will be in St. Finbarr's Cemetery in Grand Meadow.

Mrs. Swygman, 88, a longtime Kahler Hotel employee, died of cancer Saturday (Feb. 20, 1999) at her home.

Grace Keenan was born Aug. 24, 1910, in Illinois, and as a child moved with her family to a farm near Grand Meadow. She later moved to Rochester and married William Swygman here. Her husband also worked at the Kahler Hotel. He died in 1987. Mrs. Swygman worked at the Kahler for 40 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Marleen Lenton Lillie of Rochester; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Macken Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to Mayo Clinic for cancer research.

 

 

James Henderson Keist

1848-1932)

Funeral of James H. Keist held here on Last Saturday

Aged Man, Resident here for 22 Years Passed Away
on June 1st After Only Brief Illness.

Funeral services for James H. Keist aged Grand Meadow man whose death on June 1st was briefly recorded in this newspaper last week, were held at the home of Sam Keist in Grand Meadow last Saturday afternoon interment being made in the local cemetery. Rev. C.P. Baenziger pastor of the Methodist church officiated.

Out of town relatives here for the funeral were: Mrs. and Mrs. Paul BeDunnah, Mrs. Preston BeDunnah Mr and Mrs. Lewis Hendricks and baby all of Greensburg, Indiana; Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Keist son Alfred and daughter; Mrs. Harold Arbuckle and Roy Durst of Hudson Illinois; Mrs. Peter Pederson, Mrs. Al Smith Arthur Thur Lewis Miller G.H. Harris Mildred and Hazel Keist, all of Austin.

James Henderson Keist was born in Coshockton Ohio on Aug. 1, 1848 and died on June 1, 1932 at the age of 83 years and 10 months. In 1871 he was married to Sarah Margaret Hines. They made their home in Indiana and later moved to Omega, Illinois where they lived until the death of his wife. Five sons and one daughter were born to this union. Sam, the youngest of the family was a little baby at the time of the death of his mother. The deceased with family lived for a while in Sparta, Indiana and later again in Illinois. During the 1st 22 years he made his home with his youngest son Sam Keist of Grand Meadow.

While he lived in Sparta, Indiana he became a member of the Baptist church. During the 22 years he lived in Grand Meadow he seldom went anywhere, attending strictly to his own affairs. He was highly respected in the community for his industry in trying to do whatever he could.

His departure is mourned by one daughter, Mrs. Mabel BeDunnah of Greensberg, Indiana; four son, Leonard, Nathan and Isaac of Hudson Illinois and Sam of Grand Meadow; 14 grand children and 5 great grandchildren other relatives and friends. A son Harvey of Franklin, Pa., died in 1925.

Betty J. (Wolden)(Reisetter)(Keller)(Gregory)
ANDERSON

1929-2007

Betty Jean "Daysha" Anderson, 78, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007 at the Austin Medical Center. Austin, Minnesota.

Betty was born on January 11, 1929 at Wallingford, Iowa to Fred and Ida (Gunderson) Wolden. She graduated from Waldorf Academy in 1947.

She married Don Reisetter in 1948 and they divorced in 1951. She married John Keller in 1951 and later divorced. She married Harry Gregory in 1969 and he died in 1969. She married Allen C. Anderson on Oct. 25, 2004 in Las Vegas, Nev. She worked as a nurse in Minneapolis. Betty was an Air Force widow and had lived in Sacramento, California.

Betty is survived by her husband: Allen Anderson, Austin, Minnesota; by a daughter, Barbara Andrews, Sacramento, California and her children: Jeremy and Marika; by a step daughter: Debra Wenlund, Elk River, Minnesota and her children: Heidi, Bradley and Jenny; and by a brother: Lauren Wolden, Phoenix, Arizona.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ida Wolden; and by a son, Randy Keller.

A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Bonnerup Funeral Home, Albert Lea, Minnesota; the Reverend Reggie Klindworth officiating. Interment was in Wallingford Cemetery, Wallingford, Iowa.

Olga M. (Oscarson) Kellogg

1914-2007

Olga M. Kellogg, age 93, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 21, 2007, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

She was born Jan. 21, 1914, to Oscar and Judith (Hendrickson) Oscarson in Heather Sage, Alberta, Canada.

She married Kenneth B. Kellogg on May 25, 1934, in Austin, where she spent most of her adult life. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four sons: Richard (Mary) Kellogg, of Austin; James (Karen) Kellogg, of Walker, Minnesota; Gerald (Jeannine) Kellogg, of Austin; Ronald (Ann) Kellogg, of The Villages, Florida.; one daughter, Ruth Smith, of The Villages; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one sister, Inez (Forest) Honderick, of Tucson, Arizona; and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three brothers.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 24, at First United Methodist Church in Austin, with Rev. Patricia Toschak officiating. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.

Worlein Funeral Home in Austin was in charge of arrangements.

Eugene Leroy Kelly

1920-2007

Eugene "Lefty" Kelly, 86, of Austin, Minnesota, died at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, on Monday afternoon, April 23, 2007.

Eugene Leroy Kelly was born July 23, 1920 in Jackson, Minnesota, to Roy and Hazel (Griffith) Kelly. Following graduation from high school he entered military service and was in the third wave at Normandy beach in World War II.

On June 8, 1947 Eugene Kelly married Marilyn Paulson. Gene worked for the Milwaukee Railroad as a yard master, and he and Marilyn made their home in Austin all their married lives.

Gene was a faithful member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, a member of both American Legion Post 91 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1216, as well as the Fidelity Lodge #39 of the Austin Masonic Lodge. He was also a board member of the Austin Park and Rec committee, and did coaching.

Survivors include a son, Rande (Patricia Newman) Kelly, of Dodge Center, Minnesota; a daughter, Janet (Craig) Thomas, of Oxford, Michigan; three grandchildren: Kristina, Elizabeth, and Amanda; his brothers, Kenneth K. (Elnora) Kelly, Gerald W. (Annamae) Kelly, Richard N. (Charlene) Kelly; sisters, Shirley (Donald) Erickson, Mary (Howard) Nepp, all of Austin; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Hazel Kelly, by his dear wife Marilyn, and by a brother, Claude and a sister, Elline.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 27, 2007 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Austin, Minnesota, with Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. The American Legion Post 91 and the VFW Post 1216 were in charge of military rites. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin.

The Worlein Funeral Home in Austin was in charge of arrangements.

Eugene J. Kempfert

1916-1993

Birth: Apr. 6, 1916
Death: Sep. 4, 1993

GRAND MEADOW, MINN. -- Eugene J. Kempfert Sr., 77, of Grand Meadow died Saturday (Sept. 4, 1993) at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minn.

He was born April 6, 1916 in Grand Meadow and married Thelma Nodtvevt on Jan. 6, 1938, in Spring Valley. He was a sales manager in the wholesale grocery business his whole life.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary Jane (Mrs. Gerald) Baugh of Friend, Neb., and Julie Ann (Mrs. Michael) Kassner of Lino Lakes, Minn.; four sons, Richard of Duluth, James of Golden Valley, Minn., John of Elko, Nev., and Eugene Jr. of Grand Meadow; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Finbarr Catholic Church in Grand Meadow, with the Rev. Robert Kulas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hutchins Funeral Home in Grand Meadow, where there will be a prayer service at 8 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to services Wednesday.

 

 

Richard E. Kempfert

1941-1998

Birth: Apr. 1, 1941
Death: Aug. 5, 1998

GRAND MEADOW, MINN. -- A funeral Mass will be conducted for Richard E. "Dick" Kempfert at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Finbarr Catholic Church in Grand Meadow, with the Rev. Russell Scepaniak officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Kempfert, 57, of Minneapolis, formerly of Grand Meadow, died Wednesday (Aug. 5, 1998) at University Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Minneapolis.

Born April 1, 1941, in Austin, he lived in Grand Meadow until moving to Duluth in 1957. He graduated from Duluth Central High School. On Aug. 1, 1964, he married Billy Ramona Ronning at Holy Rosary Cathedral in Duluth. Mr. Kempfert was part owner of Benna Ford in Two Harbors and was ranked one of the country's top salesmen by Ford.

Survivors include his wife of Two Harbors; two sons, Michael of Duluth and Richard ``Dick'' of Two Harbors; a grandson; his mother, Thelma Kempfert of Grand Meadow; two sisters, Mary Jane (Mrs. Gerald) Baugh of Friend, Neb., and Julie (Mrs. Michael) Kassner of Lino Lakes, Minn.; and three brothers, James of Golden Valley, Minn., John of Elko, Nev., and Eugene of Grand Meadow. He was preceded in death by a son and his father.

Edith May Hamilton Kennedy

1919-2004

Edith May Hamilton Kennedy, 85, of Spring Valley, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at the Spring Valley Senior Living Center, Spring Valley, due to complications caused by Alzheimer's disease.

She was born on Dec. 3, 1919, in Swey City, Iowa, to Elmer and Ethel Hamilton.

She graduated from Lyle High School in 1937.

Edith married Floyd (Bud) Kennedy on Oct. 5, 1940, in Northwood, Iowa. They farmed together in the Dexter region until Floyd's death on March 3, 1977.

Edith moved to Grand Meadow in 1979.

She was enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, carpentry and reading. Her focus in life was her children and grandchildren.

Edith lived in Spring Valley Senior Living Center in Spring Valley for several years.

She is survived by her seven children: Eugene (Mary) Kennedy, Red Wing, Minn.; Dixie Kennedy, Iowa; Duane (Tracy) Kennedy, Rochester, Minn.; Diane (Randy) Tigner, Austin; Victoria Watson, Harrisburg, S.D.; James (Jackie) Kennedy, Britt, Iowa; and Russell (Mary Kay) Kennedy, Faribault, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; former daughters-in-law: Carole Kennedy, Ashland, Wis.; and Linda Hein, Wisconsin; former son-in-law, William Watson, Colorado; two brothers: Allen Hamilton, Dexter; Richard (Marcy) Hamilton, Kasson, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd (Bud); three brothers: Elmer, Walter and Darwin; two sisters: Leona Read and June Kenyon; sisters-in-law Lucille, Alma, Faye Hamilton and Vearl Bundy; brothers-in-law: Merwin Read, Richard (Rex) Kenyon and Glenn Bundy.

Visitation: Was 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at the funeral home and one hour prior to services at the church today.

Service: 1:30 p.m. today, Jan. 2, 2005, at the United Church of Grand Meadow, Minn., with the Rev. Greg Strunk officiating.

Interment: Dexter Cemetery, Dexter.

Bonnetta M. (Walker) Kenyon

1924-1996

Birth: Aug. 3, 1924
Death: Apr. 9, 1996

DEXTER, MINN. -- A Mass of Christian burial will be offered for Bonnetta M. Kenyon at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Finbarr's Catholic Church in Grand Meadow, with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Kenyon, 71, of rural Dexter, a farm homemaker, died early Tuesday morning, April 9, 1996 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.

Bonnetta M. Walker was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Cresco, Iowa, and graduated from Austin High School. On June 21, 1941, she married Rodney Kenyon at St. Finbarr's Catholic Church in Grand Meadow and they farmed in the area. Mrs. Kenyon also worked at the Grand Meadow Bank and for Fast Income Tax Service in Austin. She was a member of St. Finbarr's Catholic Church and its rosary society and enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, gambling, reading and crocheting.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Jim of Oronoco; two daughters, JoAnn (Mrs. Bob) Howe of Dexter and Karen (Mrs. Bill) Unversagt of Rochester; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and a foster brother, Norman Mathews of Dexter. She was preceded in death by a son, a great-granddaughter and a brother.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin and an hour before the service Friday at the church. The rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Lola K. (Bateman) Kettelkamp

1908-1998

The funeral for Lola Kettelkamp will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Shirley Harper Cox officiating. Burial will be in Frankford Cemetery in Frankford Township, Mower County.

Mrs. Kettelkamp, 90, of 232 Seventh Ave. S.E., former manager of a Rochester beauty shop, died of complications of a stroke Thursday (Feb. 19, 1998) at Saint Marys Hospital, where she had been a patient six days.

Lola Bateman was born Jan. 21, 1908, in Frankford Township, Mower County, grew up there and attended Frankford schools. In 1928 she graduated from Hair Dressing Academy of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

On Sept. 3, 1929, she married Carroll B. "Bud" Kettelkamp in Frankford. Her husband was with the Rochester Fire Department for many years. He died Oct. 12, 1977. Mrs. Kettelkamp was manager and an instructor at Lawler Beauty Shop. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed gardening and spending summers at Lake Zumbro.

Survivors include eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Douglas of Racine and Arlene Ferschweiler of La Crosse, Wis.; and a brother, Lyle Bateman of Rock Dell. She was preceded in death by two sons, three daughters, two grandsons and a brother.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Vine Funeral Home and an hour before the service Monday at the church.

Vernon Theodore Kiefer

1920-2007

Vernon Kiefer, 87 of Adams, Minnesota, died on his birthday, Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at the Adams Health Care Center.

Vernon Theodore Kiefer was born May 29, 1920 in Adams, to John and Elizabeth (Sabel) Kiefer. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Adams.

He married Priscilla Duren on August 21, 1945 in Stacyville, Iowa. Vernon farmed in rural Adams until he retired in 1982, moving to the family home in Adams that was built by his grandfather Sabel. Vernon was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and an honorary member of the Adams American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, camping and spending time with his family.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 2, 2007, at 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father James Seitz officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Adams. Music was by Laura Freund, Maureen Noterman, and Susan Finbraaten; the Soloist was Paul Kiefer.

Honorary Casket Bearers were: Michelle Huemann, Kellie Kiefer, Ryan Sedelbauer, Lori Kiefer, Travis Kiefer, Ashton May, Craig Kiefer, and Lee Kloeckner.

Casket Bearers were: Michael Jax, Jeffrey Smith, Kevin Murphy, Jacob Kiefer, Jason Kiefer, and Chad Kiefer.

Margaret Mary "Maggie" (Kiley) Anderson


1951-2004

Margaret Mary "Maggie" Anderson, age 53, of Austin, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Fieldcrest Care Center in Hayfield.

Maggie was born Feb. 16, 1951, in Rochester, to Dennis and Patricia (Casey) Kiley. She attended St. Joseph Grade School in Red Wing and graduated from Pacelli High School in Austin in 1969.

On July 7, 1979, she married Larry Anderson.

Maggie worked as a teacher's aide at Southgate Elementary School, where she was known as the "Playground Lady."

Survivors include her husband: Larry "Pee Wee" Anderson, Austin; children: Casey (Sue) Anderson, Austin; Brian Anderson, Austin; four grandchildren: Cody, Kyle, Skylar and Ethan Anderson, Austin; mother: Patricia Kiley, Austin; siblings: Jill Kiley (Denny) Shatek, Austin; Mike (Terrie) Kiley, Alaska; Mary Kiley (John) Lange, Fountain City, Wis.; Marty (Cindy) Kiley, Rochester; Patty Kiley Boelman, Austin; nieces and nephews: Scott and Trevor Shatek, Corissa and Peter Kiley, Bridget and Patrick Lange, Ryan and Molly Kiley, Lacey, Kyle and Jesse Boelman; sisters-in-law: Norma (Rev. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 4 p.m. CCW rosary and a 7:30 p.m. wake service on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. and also from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Ardella (Kilgore) Haldorson

1914-2007

Ardella Haldorson, 93, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

She was born April 23, 1914 in Bellingham, Washington, to William and Annie (Johnson) Kilgore.

Ardella moved to the Austin area as a child and graduated from Austin High School. She worked at the Geo. A. Hormel Co. and was married to Clarence Haldorson on Nov. 17, 1940, at the parsonage in Hayward, Minnesota. She also worked at the T & L Market and the Kenwood Park Grocery stores in SW Austin. Ardella was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA and church circle.

Ardella is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Donald Dimmel, of Prescott, Arizona, and Connie and Larry Edlund, of Kalamazoo, Minnesota; by her grandchildren: Lori and Mark Weninger, of Kingman, Arizona; Greg Dimmel, of Appleton, Wisconsin; John Dimmel and Tamara Shroll, of Phoenix, Arizona; Ashley and Eric Heidtke, of Charleston, South Carolina; Emily Edlund, of Riverside, California; by great-grandchildren: Aidan, Savanna and Heather; and by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence in 1990, and by her brothers, Willard and James Kilgore.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, with Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Burial was in the Woodbury Cemetery near Lyle, Minnesota.

The organist was Ruth Monson. Casket bearers were: John Rysavy, William Kilgore, Scott Eastmann, Eric Eastmann, Leon Edlund, and LeRoy Edlund.

The Clasen-Jordan Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Charlotte Ruth Kimpell

1932-2007

Charlotte Ruth Kimpell, age 74, of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday, April 8, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Charlotte was born Oct. 12, 1932 in Austin to Lawrence and Cecelia (Sauer) Kimpell. Charlotte worked many years as a manager at Austin's Goodwill Store and as a care giver at Woodvale. She was a care giver of many children and always took the time for a trip to Klagge's, The Smallest Candy Shop, and The Little Church to sing a song.

Charlotte was a member of Queen of Angels and was a cancer survivor. Survivors include a sister, Delores Murphy, Austin; a brother, Lawrence Kimpell, Austin; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Cecelia Kimpell; brothers, Wilfred and James Kimpell; sisters, Elizabeth Howe and Kathleen Trudell.

A funeral mass will be celebrated 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2007 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper and Father Paul Nelson officiating. There will be a 4 p.m. CCW rosary and a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4-7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The honorary casket bearer will be Lawrence Kimpell.

Arden Edwin King

1941-2007

Arden Edwin "Shep" King, 66, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Wednesday evening, May 23, 2007, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Arden King was born on January. 15, 1941 in Austin, to Edwin P. and Irene (Rosenkilde) King. He graduated from Pacelli High School in 1959. He served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964. He graduated from Austin Community College and Mankato State.

He married Mary Chihak on May 26, 1962.

Arden is a retired firefighter, a part time bailiff at the Mower County Courthouse, and the President and CEO of A.E. King & Sons Consulting.

Survivors include his wife Mary, of Austin; his children: Randall (Tonja) King and Susan (Nathan) Christenson, Red Wing, Minnesota, Stephen (Shelley) King, Austin, and Jonathan (Becky) King, Faribault, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; a brother: Roger (Teri) King, Eagle, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Paul.

A Memorial Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery.

The Mayer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Catherine J. (Dennis) King

1881-1956

Catherine J. King was born in 1881 in Mower County, the daughter of Mary and Isaac Dennis.

She attended school in Mower County and on Dec 17, 1899 she was united in marriage with Vance A. King. They moved to Ipswich, S.D. in 1903, where they lived 10 years, returning to Mower County in 1913. At the time of her death, Mrs. King resided at 601 W. Maple.

She was baptized a Christian and was a member of the Church of Christ, taking an active part in all activities up to the time of her death.

Mrs. King died Dec 28, 1956 at St. Olaf Hospital after a short illness. Funeral services were held at 1:30p.m. Dec 31, at the Church of Christ, Pastor Herman H. Kooy, officiating. Interment was in Lansing Cemetery with the Worlein Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. King is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Oren Blabaum (Hazel) and Mrs. Harry Larson (Ruby), Austin, and Mrs. George Johnson (Mabel), New Windsor, Ill.; two sons Roy King, Austin and Rex King, Boyes Hot Springs, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; a sister Mrs. Rose Lewis, Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband, 23 years ago.

Out-of-town persons attending the funeral came from Fargo, N.D., Hayfield, Stillwater, Bayport, Minn., Blooming Prairie, New Windsor, Ill., and Boyes Hot Springs, Calif.

Gertrude (King) Heimer

1934-2001

STACYVILLE, IOWA -- The funeral for Gertrude Heimer will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Heimer, 66, of Stacyville, formerly of the Taopi-Adams area, died Tuesday (June 5, 2001) at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Gertrude King was born Aug. 26, 1934, in Taopi and married LaVerne Heimer on Sept. 20, 1955, in Adams. She lived in Stacyville most of her married life.

Survivors include a daughter, Deb (Dan) Lange of St. Charles; two sons, Doug (Jeanie) of Rock Falls, Iowa, and Dave (Michele) of St. Ansgar, Iowa; eight grandchildren; five sisters, Mary Ann Heimer of Adams, Evy Bimberg of St. Louis Park, Minn., Bernice Horn of Coon Rapids, Minn., Bernette Willenbring of Anoka, Minn., and Diane Christie of Rochester; three brothers, Ernie King of Austin, Bud King of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Bill King of Rochester; and special friend and caregiver Robin Bowers. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church, where the rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Shirley M. Kinny, 81

1925-2007

Shirley Mae Kinny, age 81, of Austin, Minnesota, a resident of St. Mark's Lutheran Home, died Tuesday, February 13, 2007, at the Austin Medical Center.

Shirley was born March 8, 1925 in Milford, Dickinson County, Iowa, to John M. and Bertha (Moritz) Kinny. The family moved to the Austin area in 1928. Shirley attended school in Austin and graduated in 1944. She attended post-graduate school for one year.

In 1947, Shirley started working with her friend, Elizabeth Taylor, at Queen of Angels Church as a housekeeper, where she worked for 23 years. In 1972, she started working at Austin Vocational School as a matron. Shirley worked there until her retirement in 1990. She also did house cleaning for numerous people around Austin.

Survivors include her sisters: Mary (Tom) Mlenar, St. Paul, Minnesota; Bernitta Gilpin, St. Paul; Bonnie (John) Funk, St. Joseph, Missouri; her brothers: Delbert (Karen) Kinny, Austin; David (Mary) Kinney, Faribault, Minnesota; Harold (Judy) Kinney, Albert Lea, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Alphia Kinney, Austin; her brothers-in-law, Gene Hamburg, Glenville, Minnesota, and Ernie Hoag, Lonsdale, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Donald, Kenneth, John and Robert; sisters, Loretta Shuck Nelson, Lavonne Turnell Hunt, Betty Hamburg and JoAnn Hoag.

A funeral mass was celebrated on Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, with Father Joe Fogal officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Austin, Minnesota.

The casket bearers were: Greg Kinny, Doug Kinny, Mike Kinny, Steve Kinny, Kevin Hamburg, and Bob Hamburg.

The Mayer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

1934-2007

Arlene Mae Tresslar, 73, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, May 21, 2007, at her home.

The oldest of five children, she was born May 1, 1934 to Clyde and Gladys Amanda (Hanson) Kirkwood in Austin.

She married Bernell Nelson on Nov. 25, 1950. To this union three daughters were born. Arlene and Bernell were later divorced.

On February 26, 1968 Arlene married George M. Tresslar in Watertown, South Dakota. Arlene worked many years as a cook at Union 76 Restaurant and later at the Cedars of Austin.

Survivors include her daughters: Judy (Wilson) Bollinger of Austin, Terry (Fred) Cantrall of Austin, and Tina Anderson of St. Paul, Minn.; her sister, Aggie (Robert) Hendrickson of Austin; her brother, Norbert Kirkwood of Albuquerque, New Mexico; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Tresslar; by her parents, Gladys and Clyde Kirkwood; and by her brothers, Claire and Daryl Kirkwood.

Memorial services were held on Thursday, May 24, 2007, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, with Rev. Mark Goossen officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.

Allan Roger Kittelson

Sepember 28, 1930 - July 31, 2005

Allan Kittelson, 74, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, died on Sunday, July 31, 2005, at the Albert Lea Medical Center.

Allan Roger Kittelson was born Sept. 28, 1930, to Carl and Nellie (Wigtil) Kittelson in Austin, Minn. He remained at home most of his life before becoming a resident of Woodvale five years ago. Allan enjoyed spending time with his family and being on the farm.

Survivors include his brother, Harlan Kittelson, Austin, Minn.; sisters: Nina Ingvaldson, Austin, Minn.; and Avis Christiansen, Blooming Prairie, Minn.; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Allan was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Bruce Falkson will officiate.

Interment will be in the Red Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the services at Bayview.

Annie B. (Ulland) Kittelson

Dec. 16, 1901 - Jan. 22, 1992

AUSTIN, MINN. -- Annie B. Kittelson, 90, of rural Austin and a longtime area resident, died this morning Jan. 22, 1992 at Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie.

Born Annie B. Ulland on Dec. 16, 1901, in Richland County, N.D., she moved to the Austin area with her family when she was 2. On June 14, 1930, she married George A. Kittelson in the St. Olaf Lutheran Church parsonage in Austin. Her husband died in December 1985. Mrs. Kittelson was a member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, its ladies aid and circle.

Survivors include a son, Loren of rural Austin; a daughter, Gail (Mrs. Vern) Meister of Rochester; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, three brothers and a sister.

The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church in rural Austin, with the Rev. Arvid Jovaag officiating. Spring burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.

Avis Mercedes (Kittelson) Christianson

1915-2007

Avis Christianson, 91, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died at Austin Medical Center on Friday, April 20, 2007.

Avis Mercedes Kittelson was born on April 30, 1915, to Carl and Nilanna "Nellie" (Wigtil) Kittelson, in Freeborn County, Minnesota.

She married Kenneth Christianson on March 20, 1935, at the Lutheran Parsonage, Blooming Prairie. The couple lived on a farm near Corning, Minnesota for over 30 years, before moving to Blooming Prairie.

After retirement from the farm, Avis traveled often to visit her widely-scattered family on both coasts and in the southern states. She also took two trips to Norway which allowed her to enjoy her love of the Norwegian language and people. Avis's Red Oak Grove Church activities were always a major part of her life, including choirs, youth activities, and church women's groups. Her interest in music included piano, small organ, singing and encouraging her family's musical development. She was active in the Blooming Prairie Garden Club and in Prairie Manor Auxiliary.

She served on the Austin Community College Advisory Committee and was supportive of her children's education.

Avis was the family historian and kept records, journals, and scrapbooks of her husband Ken's quilts as well as other community events. Avis was known for her great kindness, as a woman who delighted in the comfort and happiness of others. She also dealt with hardship and heartache in her 92 years with quiet determination and unusual fortitude.

Survivors include three daughters: Barbara (Ron) Manbeck, of Corvallis, Oregon; Marilyn Styve, of Afton, Minnesota; Janet (Gordon) Beavers, of Golden Valley, Minnesota; two sons: Jerome (Betty) Christianson, of Austin, and Gary (Terry) Christianson, of Seattle, Washington; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Nina Ingvalson, of Austin; one brother, Harlan Kittelson, of Austin; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clinton (Adeline) Christianson, of Blooming Prairie; two sisters-in-law, Irene Filley, of Blooming Prairie, and Frieda Christianson, of Blooming Prairie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie and Carl Kittelson; by her husband Kenneth in 2003; by a daughter, Rosanne Wennes, in 2004; by a brother, Allan; and by sons-in-law, John Styve and Richard Wennes.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on April 23, 2007, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Blooming Prairie, with Rev. Bruce Falksen officiating. Burial was in Red Oak Grove Cemetery.

Peter W. Klein

1965-1998

AUSTIN, MINNESOTA -- The funeral for Peter W. Klein will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. W. Bruce Wilder officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin.

Mr. Klein, 32, of 604 Fifth Ave. N.W., died Tuesday evening (June 2, 1998) in the emergency room of Austin Medical Center of injuries suffered in a dirt-bike accident.

He was born Aug. 22, 1965, in Austin and was a graduate of Austin High School and Winona State University. Mr. Klein was self-employed in automotive repair and sales. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Spamtown Snow Drifters and MN USA. He was engaged to Susan Finholdt of Austin.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Gladys and Charles Bliss of Austin. His father preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin and an hour before the service Friday at the church.

LYLE, MINNESOTA -- The funeral for John William "Jack" Kline will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Lyle, with the Rev Ruben Spinler officiating. A private burial service will be in Cedar City Cemetery.

Mr. Kline, 63, of Lyle, a longtime Hormel Foods Corp. employee, died Monday (Aug. 6, 2001) at his home.

He was born October 27, 1937, in Albert Lea and graduated from high school in St. Ansgar, Iowa, in 1955. On February 2, 1957, he married Carol Ann Barclay at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. For a number of years, he was a mechanic in various shops and for the past 34 years worked at Hormel. He also farmed with his sons. Mr. Kline was a member of the London Volunteer Fire Department for more than 40 years, a member of the Lyle American Legion, a charter member of the Lords of London Snowmobile Club, and a longtime member and treasurer of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Lyle.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Deanne (Robert) Silbaugh of Lyle; two sons, Gene (Darci) of Lyle and David (Mary) of London; nine grandchildren; a brother, Jerry (Sue) of St. Ansgar; and five sisters, Diane (Roger) Zuehl of Racine, Wis., Nancy (Don) Salisbury of Rudd, Iowa, Janet (Robert) Bruetswitz of Rochester, Sonja (Tom) Yahnke of Allen, Texas, and Linda Currens of St. Ansgar. John (Jack) William Kline, 63, of Lyle, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at his home.

He was born October 27, 1937, in Albert Lea to William and Agnes (Trench) Kline.

He graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1955. He married Carol Ann Barclay Feb. 2, 1957, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church.

He spent many years working as a mechanic in various shops and for the last 34 years, he worked for Hormel Foods Corporation. He farmed with his sons. He was a member of the London Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years, a member of the American Legion of Lyle and a charter member of the Lords of London Snowmobile club.

He was a faithful member and treasurer at Queen of Peace Church, Lyle.
