Kenneth Eugene Arens

1911-1974

Birth: Oct. 5, 1911
Death: Aug. 8, 1974

Kenneth Eugene Arens was born October 5, 1911 in Austin, the son of Frank and Gertrude Arens. He spent his entire life in Austin and attended St. Augustine Grade and High School. He resided for the past six years at 902 15th St. SW.

On December 17, 1935, he was united in marriage to Marcella (Sally) Millenacker at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Mr. Arens was the owner of the Arens Real Estate Agency. He was also an organizer and active in many civic projects. He was made a knight of St. John Latern Cross 1st Class, September 6, 1960 by Pope Pious XII for works of charity with orphan children throughout the world.

He died August 8, 1974 at 10:45 a.m. at St. Olaf Hospital after suffering a heart attack.

He is survived by his wife, Sally; one son, Terry Arens, Austin; two grandchildren; two brothers, Sylvester Arens, Santa Ana, California, Clarence Arens, Blooming Prairie; one sister, Mrs. Harold (Loretta) Bassett, Austin; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. August 10, 1974 at St. Edwards Catholic Church, with Rev. Daniel Cercoran officiating. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, with Roger Plunkett, Bud Leif, Marvin Brill, Ray Carroll, Gene Hanf and Albert Wacholtz as pallbearers. Honorary guards were Hugh Plunkett Jr., Fred May, Wilbur Monty, Ray Winkels, Isadore Neisen, Russel Baldus, Louis Proulx. The fourth degree guard was on duty to night of the prayer service. Mayer Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Kenneth Arens was a loving and devout husband and father and will be missed by his family and all who knew him.

 

 

Harry Attlesey

1906-1995

LYLE, MINNESOTA -- Harry Attlesey, 88, of Lyle, longtime owner of the Lyle blacksmith shop, died Friday evening (July 7, 1995) at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. Ansgar, Iowa.

He was born Sept. 19, 1906, in rural Austin. On Jan. 1, 1929, he married Isabel Webber in Austin and they lived in Austin and Stacyville, Iowa, before moving to Lyle. He then worked for A & S Machines, operated a portable feed mill, and for 46 years before his retirement at age 84 owned the Lyle blacksmith shop. He enjoyed working on the farm and gardening.

Survivors include a daughter, LaRayne Kleckner of St. Ansgar; a son, Ronald of London, Minn.; two grandchildren; a great grandson; a sister, Blanche Jahnke of Austin; and a brother, Daniel of Backus, Minn.

The funeral was today at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle, with the Rev. Harold Luecke officiated. Burial was in Cedar City Cemetery.

Worlein Funeral Home in Austin was in charge of arrangements.

 

 

Myron Charles Aultfather

1907-1999

AUSTIN -- The funeral for Myron Charles Aultfather will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church in Austin, with the Revs. James Van Arsdale and Arvid Jovaag co-officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.

Mr. Aultfather, 91, of Route 2, Austin, a longtime area farmer, died Thursday (Jan. 14, 1999) at Austin Medical Center of complications of a hip fracture.

He was born Dec. 26, 1907, on Clover Lawn Farm, attended Excelsior District 12 grade school and graduated from Austin High School in 1925. After graduating from Iowa State College in Ames with a degree in animal husbandry, he returned to the farm and worked in partnership with his father in grain farming and raising registered red polled cattle, Poland China hogs and Percheron horses.

On Nov. 24, 1932, he married Florence Elizabeth Carle at her parents' home in Austin. They farmed south of Austin until moving to the Aultfather home farm in 1945. His wife died Feb. 12, 1989. Mr. Aultfather was active in the community, including serving as director of the Mower County Fair for 12 years, supervisor of the Austin Township Board for 13 years and chairman of the Austin Township Baord for five years. Also, he held state and national offices in the American Red Poll Association and was president of the Minnesota Swine Improvement Association for five years. He was active in local poltical organizations and held leadership roles in his church.

During his lifetime, he received many awards, including induction into the Mower County Fair Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Minnesota Livestock Hall of Fame in 1992.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley (Mrs. Harlen) Peck of Austin; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Rosenthal of Austin. An infant sister preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin and an hour before the service Tuesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or a charity of the donor's choice.

 

Violet Marie (Austin) Heard

1919-1995

AUSTIN, MINNESOTA -- Violet Marie Heard, 76, of 1016 11th Ave. S.W., died Friday (Nov. 10, 1995) at St. Marks Lutheran Home in Austin.

The former Violet Austin was born Aug. 20, 1919, in Kansas. On Sept. 27, 1936, she married Clifford Heard in St. Ansgar, Iowa. Mrs. Heard lived most of her life in the Austin area and worked as a dietary aide at Burr Oak Manor in Austin for 25 years. She was a member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter, Iowa. Mr. Heard died Oct. 29, 1964.

She is survived by a son, Wayne of Mascoutah, Ill.; a daughter, Darla (Mrs. Lester) Tufte of Lyle; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Earl Orman of Northwood, Iowa. She was preceded in death by a son, two grandsons, three sisters and five brothers.

The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Crane Community Chapel in Austin, with the Rev. Joe Matt officiating. Burial will be in Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

 

 

Palma Alice Austinson Lastine

1910-1999

Birth: Oct. 30, 1910
Death: Jul. 4, 1999

AUSTIN, MINN. -- The funeral for Palma Alice Lastine, 88, of Austin, was today in Worlein Funeral Home, the Revs. Greg and Cathy Mannell co-officiating. Burial was in Six Mile Grove Cemetery, Lyle.

Mrs. Lastine died Sunday July 4, 1999 in St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.

Palma Austinson was born Oct. 30, 1910, in rural Lyle. She attended Lyle school through eighth grade. She married Kenneth Arthur Lastine on July 1, 1933, in Mower County and lived in the Austin and Lyle area. She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, and enjoyed dancing, music, crossword puzzles, crafts and sewing.

Surviving are two daughters, Belva Jean Haugen of Austin and Charlene (Mrs. Jim) Hastings of Marshalltown, Iowa; a son, James of Austin; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Donald Austinson of Trenton, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and a sister.

 

 

Bernice (Post) Babcock

1909-2002

Bernice Babcock, 91, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

She was born July 4, 1909 in LaCrescent to Edward and Bertha (Smith) Post. She moved to Austin as a young girl. Bernice was married to Robert O. Babcock on Aug. 6, 1938 and lived in Austin until her death.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law Gary and Connie Babcock, Mission Viejo, Calif.; two grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Florence Post, Bloomington; sister-in-law, Hazel Post, Austin; brother-in-law Elmer Reitzel, Downey, Calif.; five nieces and fouir nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 20, 1989 and two brothers, Edward and Clarence Post.

Service: A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating. bearers are Robert Post, Roger Post, Maynard Wolfe, Ron Lueders and Burt Towne.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation: There will be a 4 p.m. CCW rosary and a 6:30 p.m. wake service today at Mayer Funeral Home with a visitation from 4-7 p.m. and 9-10 a.m. Monday.

Beverly J. (Bachman) Leraaen

1936-2001

AUSTIN, MINNESOTA -- The funeral for Beverly J. Leraaen will be 1 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, Iowa, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Leraaen, 65, of St. Ansgar, formerly of Austin, died Sunday (May 13, 2001), at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, Iowa.

Beverly J. Bachman was born March 22, 1936, in Austin. She was baptized and confirmed in Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle. She graduated from Lyle High School in 1954.

She married Oral (Bud) K. Leraaen on May 15, 1955, and they moved to St. Ansgar. She worked at St. Ansgar Mills from 1963 to 1979 as a bookkeeper. She also worked for the St. Ansgar school district as business manager. In 1984, they moved to Boone, Iowa, where she was board secretary for Boone Community Schools for 13 years. In Boone, she was also secretary of the Morning Kiwanis for five years and director of the Boone County Credit Bureau for five years. She was a member of the Boone Golf and Country Club and an active member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone. They returned to St. Ansgar in 1997. Mrs. Leraaen served as president of the American Legion Auxiliary for two terms, was an active member of the First Lutheran Church, belonged to the Mary-Ruth Circle and served as treasurer of the church. She enjoyed shopping for her grandchildren, and socializing with friends.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Nancy Johnson of Osage, Iowa; two sons, Scott (Denise) and Eric (Lynn), both of St. Ansgar; six grandchildren; her mother, Elinor Bachman of Lyle; and a sister, Sue Young of Pomona, Calif. She was preceded in death by an infant son.

Ella Amelia (Hangge) Badenschier

1910-1998

AUSTIN -- The funeral for Ella Amelia Badenschier, 88, formerly of Austin, will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Mayer Funeral Home, the Rev. Randy Peterson of Crane Community Chapel officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery.

Mrs. Badenschier died Sunday (Oct. 18, 1998) in Assumption Home in Cold Spring, Minn.

Ella Hangge was born Jan. 27, 1910, in Austin. She attended Lincoln School and graduated from Austin High School in 1929. She later became a school teacher and taught in rural schools in Oakland and Dexter. She married Ernest Badenschier on Nov. 23, 1938. The family farmed in Kensett, Northwood and St. Ansgar, Iowa, before retiring to Austin in 1975.

Surviving are a daughter, Norma (Mrs. Emil) Jensen of Paynesville, Minn.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Lena O'Leary of Austin, and a brother, Harry Hangge of Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 22, 1988, a sister and a great-grandson.

Jeanette C. (Peterson) Bahl, 71

1935-2007

Jeanette Charlotte Bahl, age 71, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, March 26, 2007 at her home in Austin.

She was born May 15, 1935 in Sargeant Township, Mower County, Minnesota, to Henry and Clara (Jensen) Peterson.

Jeanette graduated from Austin High School in the class of 1953. She was married to Robert D. Bahl on Aug. 28, 1955, in Austin. Jeanette was a homemaker and a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

She enjoyed gardening, genealogy and doing hardanger.

Jeanette is survived by her husband, Robert D. Bahl, of Austin; by daughters and sons-in-law: Rhonda and Kevin Miller, of Lakeville, Minnesota; Tami and Steve Schuknecht, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; by a son, Peter Bahl, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; by grandchildren: Heather Miller, Ryan (Andrea) Miller, Nathan Miller, Timothy Bruflat, Christa Bruflat, Katie Schuknecht; great-grandchildren, Zachary Rushford and Ashley Miller; by a brother and sister-in-law, Willis and Dorene Peterson, of Lexington, Kentucky; by a sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Terry Jenson, of Clarks Grove, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her stepfather, Elmer Schurrer.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Interment was in the Evanger Lutheran Cemetery in Sargeant Township.

The Clasen-Jordan Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Lowell R. Baker

1921-2005

AUSTIN, MINN. -- A memorial service for Lowell R. Baker will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church in Austin, with the Rev. Patricia Toschak officiating. Interment will be at 11:15 a.m. Friday in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Assembly Lane 5.

Mr. Baker, 84, of Austin, died Wednesday (Dec. 28, 2005) at Austin Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 11, 1921, in Britt, Iowa, where he grew up on a farm. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1943, serving in World War II. He married Helen Mondzak on March 24, 1945, in Oklahoma City, and they lived for a brief time in Britt then moved to Austin in 1951. A truck driver and Mower County sheriff's deputy, he belonged to First United Methodist Church, the VFW, American Legion and DAV. He enjoyed traveling and wintering in Arizona.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda (Daniel) Fredenburg of Maple Grove, Minn., and Loann (Jeff) Maas of Plymouth, Minn.; four sons, Blaine (Lori) of Kelseyville, Calif., Bryce (Carol) of Deephaven, Minn., L. Robert (Debbie) of Spokane, Wash., and Bradley of Plymouth, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dale (Jean) of Pacific Grove, Calif., and Eldon (Cleo) of Sequim, Wash.; and a sister, Gaila (Dean) Kauffman of Vacaville, Calif. He was preceded in death by a daughter and a son.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.

Oscar F. Baldner

1908-c2001

AUSTIN -- Oscar F. Baldner, 83, of 1100 First Ave. N.W., a retired Geo. A. Hormel & Co. employee, died Saturday afternoon at Adams Healthcare Center in Adams. Born July 12, 1908, in Toeterville, Iowa, he lived in St. Ansgar, Iowa, before moving to Austin in 1935. On Aug. 25, 1935, he married Katheryn McClelland here.

Mr. Baldner was employed at Hormel for 33 years before his retirement in 1973. He was a 56-year member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, was a volunteer driver for the Austin Senior Citizens Center, and was a member of the Moose and Eagles lodges and the Eagles Camera Club.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Richard of Minnetonka, Minn; two daughters, Karen (Mrs. Warren) Williams of Chandler, Ariz., and Kriss (Mrs. Gary) Beckman of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren; and a brother, Walter of Autsin, Minn.

Four sisters preceded him in death. The funeral will be on Wednesday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church here, with the Rev. Harold Usgaard officiating.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. The Mayer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangments.

Eleanor Harriet Thompson
Baldus Kukowski

1920-1999

AUSTIN, MINN. -- The funeral Mass for Eleanor Kukowski will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Augustine Church in Austin with the Rev. Hubert Baschert officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Kukowski, 78, of Austin, died Thursday (Jan. 21, 1999) at the Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie.

Eleanor Thompson was born Aug. 30, 1920, on a farm near Corning, Minn. She was raised there and attended O'Leary country school near Hollandale, Minn. She worked for a short time at the Corning country store. On March 25, 1939, she married Arnold Baldus at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They moved to Austin in 1940, where Mr. Baldus worked at Hormel Foods; He died on Dec. 8, 1966. She worked as a housekeeper at King's House Retreat Center and then at St. Augustine Rectory.

On June 18, 1971, she married George Kukowski at the St. Augustine Convent in Austin. They lived briefly in Winona before moving to Austin in 1972. Mrs. Kukowski was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, a son, Walter Baldus of Austin; two daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Richard) Schleich of Owatonna and Jannell (Mrs. Bill) Bausch of Red Wing; a brother, Marvin of Blooming Prairie; three sisters, Coral Swank of Austin, Pearl Counts of Vinton, Va., and Muriel Watson of Bloomington, Minn.; four stepsons, Rich Kukowski of Silver Spring, Md., Don Kukowski of Winona, Paul Kukowski of Camano Island, Wash., and Bill Kukowski of Minneapolis; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was also preceded by a son and a brother.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. There will also be a 4 p.m. rosary service on Sunday and a 7 p.m. wake service on Sunday at Mayer Funeral Home.

 

 

 

Fredrick A. Baldus, 83

1923-2007

Fredrick A. Baldus, age 83, of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, died March 19, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Ottertail, Minnesota.

Fredrick Baldus was born in October of 1923 to Leo and Mildred Baldus in Boone, Iowa. The family moved several times before reaching the farm in rural Grand Meadow. Fred attended and graduated from Elkton High School in Elkton, Minnesota. After school he farmed with his parents until he joined the Merchant Marines during World War II.

On April 7, 1947, Fred married Ella Strickland at the St. Finbarr Catholic Church. They farmed a short time in Oakland, Minnesota before moving to Grand Meadow in 1951 where they farmed and had a dairy herd until 1968. Fred then went to work for Federal Crop Insurance as an adjuster until his retirement in 2003.

Fred is survived by his five children: Sandra Quarles of San Antonio, Texas; Dennis (Wanda) Baldus of Victoria, Minnesota; Leo (Pam) Baldus of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; Connie (Bob) Jennings of Ottertail, Minnesota; and Patricia (Steve) Burch of Olathe, Colorado; by 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; by three brothers: Lavern (Jo) Baldus of Yuma, Arizona, LeRoy (Theresa) Baldus of Austin, Alvin (Lolly) Baldus of Menomonie, Wisconsin; by a sister, Rosella Klingfus, of Longmont, Colorado; and special friend, Jean Temanson, of Dexter, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ella; brothers, Wilbert and Everett; and sister, Florence Deerman.

A prayer service was held at the Hindt Funeral Home on Thursday.

A Funeral Mass was held on Friday, March 23, 2007 at St. Finbarr Catholic Church in Grand Meadow, with Father Steve Peterson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

The Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow, Minnesota, was in charge of arrangements.

Naoma Ida Baldus

1914-2002

Birth: Oct. 3, 1914
Death: Sep. 7, 2002

Naoma Ida Baldus, 87, of Austin, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

She was born Oct. 3, 1914, near Story City, Iowa, to Walter and Ida (Leininger) Baldus. In 1927, the family moved to a farm in Oakland.

Naoma attended Austin High School, then vocational school, learning the sheet metal trade.

She worked as an engineer mechanic at the Minneapolis Airport, a hydraulic specialist at Douglas Airport in Chicago and a supervisor for eight Army Surplus stores in Chicago for 15 years. She later came back to Oakland to open "The Oakland Discount Center." After selling the business, she became the manager of the Green Stamp Store in Austin. She established a doll hospital in her home, a doll clinic for Austin and was a sales representative for Amway. She later was a cook at Woodvale Homes for the handicapped and then a Watkins sales person. She moved back to Rose Creek before moving to St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.

Survivors include daughter, Patricia (Dean) Sawyer, Goodland, Kan.; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Orville "Bud" Baldus, Owatonna; Willard "Bill" (Genevieve) Baldus, Montevideo; step-sister, Ordella (Kenneth) Rolfson, Austin; step-brother, Robert (Vickie) Shaw, Austin; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Lena Shaw; brothers, Irwin Baldus, Russell Baldus, Howard Baldus and Arnold Baldus; sisters, Inez Doggett and Elizabeth Coffman; step-sister, Juanita Shaw; step-brother, Arthur Shaw.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m., today, Sept. 10, 2002, with a 6:30 p.m. wake service and Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Service: 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery.

Warren Arthur Ball

1913-1969

Warren Ball, 56
Former Resident
Died in Austin.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Worlein funeral home in Austin, Minn for Warren Ball, 56 of Austin, a former resident of Osage. Mr. Ball died last Thursday in Austin.

The Rev. Charles G. Parsley pastor of the Baptist church in Austin was in charge of the services. Burial was in the Grandview Memorial Gardens at Austin.

Mr. Ball, the son of Arthur and Sarah Clark Ball was born Feb. 23 1913 in Osage and attended the Osage school. He was married to Lillian Wencl of Grand Meadow, Minn.

He is survived by his widow and six children, Roger, Dennis, Deanne, Darla and Beth, at home, and Steven of Austin, and one granddaughter.

Mr. Ball was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister, and one brother Arno.

Sharon L. (Krebsbach) Baldwin

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA -- The funeral for Sharon L. Baldwin will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Ansgar Catholic Church, with the Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Private burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin.

Mrs. Baldwin, 65, of rural St. Ansgar, died Sunday (Sept. 1, 2002) at Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit in Osage, Iowa.

Sharon L. Krebsbach was born Jan. 4, 1937, near Johnsburg. On June 19, 1958, she married Sidney R. Baldwin in Austin.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Bret of St. Paul and Kipp (Leticia) of Bloomington, Minn.; a granddaughter; and her mother, Loretta (Pittman) Krebsbach of Stacyville, Iowa. She was preceded in death by two children, her father and a brother.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the church and an hour before the service Wednesday. There will be a Scripture service at 6 p.m. today at the church.

She was born on January 4, 1937, near Johnsburg, to Joseph and Loretta (Pittman) Krebsbach. On June 19, 1958, she married Sidney R. Baldwin in Austin.

Survivors include husband, Sidney Baldwin, rural St. Ansgar, Iowa; sons, Bret Baldwin, St. Paul; Kipp (Leticia) Baldwin, Bloomington; one granddaughter; mother, Loretta Krebsbach, Stacyville, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her father; brother, Wayne Krebsbach; children, Traeg and Kay Cid.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m., today, Sept. 3, 2002, at the church with a 6 p.m. Scripture Service and Wednesday for one hour before the service at the church.

Service: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at the St. Ansgar Catholic Church in St. Ansgar with the Fr. Mark Reasoner officiating.

Interment: Private interment services in Grandview Cemetery, Austin.

Robert Dean Barkhuff, 75, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Austin, Minnesota, died on April 10, 2007.

Robert was unfailingly generous and peerlessly kind to all who knew him.

He is survived by five nieces and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sydney and Viola; by a brother, Jay; by a sister, Joananne; and by a niece, Julie.

Mrs. Wilson, 92, of Austin, formerly of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died Sunday (July 1, 2001) at Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie.

Rosaline E. Bartz was born March 17, 1909, in St. Ansgar and attended an area rural school and Rock Creek Lutheran Church. She had lived in Austin since 1950 and was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and the Rebekah Lodge. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Elvin Tesch, Stewart Wilson and Clelle Brown,

Survivors include three sons, Carl (Betty) Tesch of Lincoln, Neb., Robert Wilson of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Stewart Wilson of Orofino, Idaho; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A daughter, a sister and a brother also preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and an hour before the service Friday at the funeral home.

OBITUARY-

Gladys J. Basness, age 86 of Blooming Prairie, died Thursday, April 14, 2005 at Prairie Manor in Blooming Prairie.

She was born Dec. 31, 1918 to John and Gertrude (Johnson) Shaw in Adams, Minnesota, where she grew up. After attending St. Olaf Teacher's College, she taught at rural schools for four years.

On Feb. 23, 1946 she married Maurice B. Basness in Adams. A member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church where she was the organist for 26 years, Gladys enjoyed fishing, sewing, crocheting and traveling.

Survivors include her husband: Maurice Basness, Blooming Prairie, Minn.; two daughters: Barbara (Steve) Nelson, Underwood, Minn.; Karen Basness, Underwood, Minn.; one son: Scott (Sandra) Basness, Blooming Prairie, Minn.; five grandchildren: Corissa and Casey Nelson, Sheena Marie, Stephen and Syndey Basness; one sister: Mabel (Edward) Kittleson, Austin, Minn.; sister-in-law: Isabel Shaw, Adams, Minn.; many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Harry Shaw.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Austin with the Rev. Bruce Falksen officiating. Friends may call at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Red Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Austin.

Albert Thomas Bastyr, 89

1917-2007

Albert Bastyr, 89, of Austin, Mionnesota, died on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the Adams Healthcare Center.

Albert Thomas Bastyr was born on December 28, 1917 in Lonsdale, Minnesota, to Frank J. and Albina (Franek) Bastyr.

He married Elsie Marie Rezac on June 12, 1944.

Albert was supervisor for the City of Austin Sewer Department, Past Commander of American Legion Post #91, a dedicated member of the American Legion for 63 years and a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Marie Bastyr, Austin; his four sons: Roger (Sue) Bastyr, Austin; Robert (Joanne) Bastyr, Austin; Michael (Sue) Bastyr, Shoreview, Minnesota; Charles (Barb) Bastyr, Toronto, Canada; his two daughters, Sue (Tom) Hilgers, Omaha, Nebraska, and Marilyn (Lowell) Bayerkohler, Staples, Minnesota; nineteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Albina Bastyr; by one brother; and by four sisters.

A funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Austin, with military rites by American Legion Post #91.

The Mayer Funeral Home was ionm charge of arrangements.

Albina (Bastyr) Wolf
1912-2006

Stacyville, Iowa -- Albina Wolf, 93, of Stacyville, Iowa died Friday, September 29, 2006 at the Stacvyille Community Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 6, 2006, at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery.

Albina Wolf was born December 6, 1912, in Lonsdale, Minnesota, to Frank and Albina Franek Bastyr. She attended high school in Faribault and graduated from Austin High School. Albina married Ralph J. Wolf of Stacyville on August 31, 1936, in Austin. She worked at Hormel's in Austin before her marriage and assisted Ralph at his insurance, bookkeeping, and real estate office after they moved to Stacyville in 1948. In 1964 they moved to Mason City, and Albina became a stay-at-home mom.

In 1970 Ralph and Albina moved to Florida where Albina developed interests in flower gardening and golfing. They returned to Mason City in 1986. The last years of her life she was a resident of the Stacyville Community Nursing Home. Albina will be remembered by her family with the motto she lived by: "Life is what you make it."

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Ralph J. Wolf, son Paul in January of 2006, son John in infancy, a grandson in infancy, brother Robert Bastyr, and sisters Mary Peroutka, Helen Wehner, and Martha Lynch.

Albina is survived by her children: Mary (John) Christoffersen of Gainesville, Florida; Judy (Keith) Ramker of Leesburg, Florida; Tom (Ann) Wolf of Sheffield, Iowa; Ralph A. (Audrey) Wolf of Mason City, Iowa; Rich (Mary) Wolf of Rockford, Illinois; Joe (Rosie) Wolf of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter-in-law Mary Lou Wolf of Gainesville, Florida., 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Albert Bastyr of Austin, Minnesota, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen Harriet (Bateman) Douglas

1911-2003

SPRING VALLEY, MINN. -- The funeral for Helen Harriet Douglas will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley, with the Rev. William Rowen officiating. Burial will be in Frankford Cemetery at a later date.

Mrs. Douglas, 91, of Spring Valley, a homemaker, died Sunday (Jan. 19, 2003) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Helen H. Bateman was born July 3, 1911, in Frankford Township, Mower County. On Sept. 3, 1929, she married Harold Douglas at her parents' home in Frankford Township. The couple farmed in the area. She was active in Sunshine Club, was a project leader for the Frankford 4-H Club and a charter member of Frankford Grange. Mrs. Douglas was a member of Frankford Cemetery Association, Frankford Cemetery Floral Club, BI Club, Racine Social Club, Frankford Project Group, Golden Girls, Faith United Methodist Church and its Ruth Circle, Hamilton Birthday Club and Methodist Singles Club She enjoyed wood carving, playing cards and games, dancing, traveling, the outdoors and yard work.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley (Lester) Hyland of Spring Valley; a son, Howard "Butch" (Judy) of Spring Valley; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; a sister, Arlene Firschweike of La Crosse, Wis.; and a brother, Lyle Bateman of Stewartville. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, a sister and a brother.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in Spring Valley and an hour before the service Wednesday at the church.

Lola K. (Bateman) Kettelkamp

1908-1998

The funeral for Lola Kettelkamp will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Shirley Harper Cox officiating. Burial will be in Frankford Cemetery in Frankford Township, Mower County.

Mrs. Kettelkamp, 90, of 232 Seventh Ave. S.E., former manager of a Rochester beauty shop, died of complications of a stroke Thursday (Feb. 19, 1998) at Saint Marys Hospital, where she had been a patient six days.

Lola Bateman was born Jan. 21, 1908, in Frankford Township, Mower County, grew up there and attended Frankford schools. In 1928 she graduated from Hair Dressing Academy of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

On Sept. 3, 1929, she married Carroll B. "Bud" Kettelkamp in Frankford. Her husband was with the Rochester Fire Department for many years. He died Oct. 12, 1977. Mrs. Kettelkamp was manager and an instructor at Lawler Beauty Shop. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed gardening and spending summers at Lake Zumbro.

Survivors include eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Douglas of Racine and Arlene Ferschweiler of La Crosse, Wis.; and a brother, Lyle Bateman of Rock Dell. She was preceded in death by two sons, three daughters, two grandsons and a brother.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Vine Funeral Home and an hour before the service Monday at the church.

Grover Bates, 82, died Friday evening at St. Olaf Hospital after a short illness. A retired employee of the Hormel Co, he resided at 207 4th ST. SE.

Surviving are his wife, Lydia: a daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Ila Mae) Crawford, Lanesboro, Minn.: four grandchildren: four sisters, Mrs. Bertha Campbell, Mrs. Opal Riggs, Los Angeles, Mrs. Ada Tierman, Miss Mildred Bates, Chicago; two brothers Del Bates, Baraboo, Wis., Leo Bates, Austin: nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday.

BATES- Funeral services for Grover Bates, 207 4th St. SE. will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Worlein Funeral Home, Rev. Warren Jorenby officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, with Olaf B. Damm Post 1216 VFW, in charge of military rites. Friends may call from 2:p.m. Sunday until time of service Monday.
