Lisa Mary (Enright) Kellin 1957-2018
Lisa Mary Kellin, 61, of Cohasset, Minnesota, passed away Sunday,
October 7, 2018, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Lisa was born in 1957, to Lawrence and Mary Enright in Austin, Minnesota,
where she grew up and graduated from Austin Pacelli high school. She also
achieved a 4-year degree from St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. She was
united in marriage to Michael Kellin on Jan. 27, 1979, and they made their
home on Sugar Lake from July 1980 to present.
Lisa was self-employed most of her working life, owning businesses with
her husband including K&K farmers market in the early years and Cousins
Subs. Most recently, she was the office manager at Coldwell Banker Northwoods
Realty in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Lisa helped many people and performed
numerous good deeds throughout her life, dedicating many years serving the
community through Special Olympics, the St. Joe’s parish, and mission trips
like The Moto Hope School in Kenya.
The most important memory of Lisa was the kind of person she was;
beautiful, competitive and spirited, but at the same time totally loving,
kind, patient, positive and supportive. We so much wanted Lisa with us
longer, but God said it was time for her to come home. She cherished
first and foremost family, especially her six grandchildren, and looked
forward to meeting number seven any day. She also had a deep love for her
youngest child, Marcus, who has special needs.
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Mary Enright.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Mike; daughter, Lauren
(Brett) Beckfeld of Grand Rapids; three sons, Mitchel (Joanna) Kellin
of Grand Rapids, Lewis (Megan) Kellin of Grand Rapids and Marcus Kellin
of Cohasset; three sisters, Jane Enright of Prescott, Wisconsin, Mary Ann
Pieper of Edina, Minnesota, and Amy (John Lange) Conlin of St. Charles,
Minnesota; one brother, Mark (Brenda) Enright of Cohasset; six grandchildren,
Finley, Cullen, Jenner, Olie, Payton, Mallory and one on the way; many nieces
and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 16,
2018, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grand Rapids with F. Jerry Weiss
officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church
and will be held until the time of the service. Burial will be in Wildwood
Cemetery in Cohasset, followed by a celebration of life reception from
3-7 p.m. at Timberlake Lodge. Arrangements are with Rowe Funeral Home
and Cremation Services of Grand Rapids. Condolences may be left online

Martin Arthur Bustad 1932-2018
Martin Arthur (Art) Bustad, 86, died Sept. 24, 2018, at the Silver Bay
Veterans Home in Silver Bay, Minnesota.
He was born April 11, 1932, to Martin and Emma (Ryerson) Bustad in
Austin, Minnesota. He graduated from Austin High School in 1950 and from
St. Olaf College in 1954. He was inducted into the U.S. Air Force as a
second lieutenant. in 1954. He served in the Air Force for two years and
in the Reserves for an additional 12 years, achieving the rank of captain.
In 1954, he married the love of his life, Corinne Jovaag. They were
blessed with a wonderful marriage and three lovely children, Marcus, Aana
and Jonas.
He was an elegant, steadfast Christian man who served God, his country
and his family faithfully. He owned a construction company and farms in
Austin, a peat mining company in Florida and, just before retirement,
became a successful realtor in the metro area in Minnesota. He also served
on the Board of First National Bank in Austin and was a past president of
the Minnesota Limestone Producers Association. He was a member and served
as president of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, St. John Lutheran Church
in Winter Park, Florida, St. Anthony Park Lutheran Church in St. Paul,
Minnesota, and New Salem Lutheran Church in Bemidji, Minnesota.
He loved music and literature, sang bass in church choirs and played the
bass fiddle in high school and in the St. Olaf College Orchestra. He also
loved boats and boating, which included his 50-foot Chris Craft (which he
took all the way down the Mississippi through Florida to the Bahamas) as
well as his pontoon boat on Big Turtle Lake in Bemidji and many in between.
He is survived by his wife, Corinne; son, Marcus (Jane Neumiller);
daughter, Aana (Doug Jahnke); son, Jonas; two grandchildren, Sarah Bustad
and David Bustad; his brother-in-law, the Rev. Arvid (Lois) Jovaag;
sister-in-law, Shirley Jovaag; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Emma Bustad; and
sister, Arlene Bustad.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, at
New Salem Lutheran Church in Bemidji with Pastors Arvid Jovaag and Terry
Hagensen officiating. Cremation will be carried out by the Cremation Society
of Minnesota, LLC.

Kim Ann (Bruckmeier) Mortenson 1965-2018
Kim Ann (Bruckmeier) Mortenson, 53, passed away on Tuesday Sept. 25,
2018, at her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
She was born on September 19, 1965, the daughter of Edward (Red) Stark
and Pam Bruckmeier. She married Mark Mortenson on Sept. 4, 1990.
Kim is survived by her father, Edward (Red) Stark, Lyle, Minnesota;
brother, Mark Bruckmeier, Greeley, Colorado; sister, Kay Bruckmeier;
brother Matt Stark, Austin, Minnesota; sister, Suzi (Stark) Holtz,
Atwater, Minnesota; ex-husband, Mark Mortenson, Colorado Springs;
and special friend, Mike Fiorillo, Colorado Springs.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Pam Bruckmeier; brother,
Craig Stark; grandparents; aunts and uncles.

Marlys Maxine (Dunker) Akkerman 1928-2018
Marlys Maxine (Dunker) Akkerman 1928-2018
December 17, 1928 - September 30, 2018
Marlys M. Akkerman, 89, of Brownsdale, Minnesota, was called to her
heavenly home on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018.
Marlys Maxine (nee Dunker) Akkerman was born Dec. 17, 1928, to Carl
and Olga Dunker in rural Claremont, Minnesota. She was baptized and
confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Claremont.
On May 22, 1949, she married Donald Henry Akkerman and they were
blessed with six children. They moved to Brownsdale, where they raised
their family.
Marlys and Don founded D.H. Akkerman Construction Company, started
in 1952, and Akkerman Inc., started in 1973. After retirement in 1990,
they built a home on the Rainy River near Baudette, Minnesota. During
the years of their marriage, she worked as the bookkeeper for both of
the businesses. In addition, she was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed
gardening, reading, jigsaw puzzles and fishing. In her later years, she
especially enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and
numerous bus trips with friends.
Marlys is survived by her children, Ruth (James) Fandrey, Lincoln,
Nebraska, Maynard (Robin) Akkerman, Brownsdale, and Barbara (Wade) Kester,
St. Clair, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Akkerman, Blooming Prairie,
Minnesota; grandchildren, Sara Lorenz, Rachel (Jeffrey) Meyer, Anne (Travis)
Kerkman, Katie Akkerman, Autumn (Travis) Riley, Emily Akkerman, Derek
Akkerman, Justin (Heidi) Akkerman, Andrew (Abby) Akkerman, Bridget
(Matthew) Anderson and Adam (Amanda) Kester; 21 great-grandchildren;
brother, Dennis (Janice) Dunker; brother-in-law, Dale (Ila) Akkerman;
and many friends.
Preceding Marlys in death were her parents, Carl and Olga Dunker;
brothers, Lowell and Russell Dunker; husband, Donald; infant son, Martin;
sons, Wayne and Kenneth; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018, at
Trinity Lutheran Church in Waltham, Minnesota, with the Rev. Paul Lauer
officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018,
at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and for one hour before the service on Thursday
at the church. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Brownsdale.

Peter Donald Bissen 1959-2018
September 4, 1959 -- September 29, 2018 (age 59)
Peter D. Bissen, age 59, of Greenleafton, Minnesota, died on
Saturday, September 29, 2018, at home.
A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 13,
2018, at Greenleafton Reformed Church with Pastor Roger Lokker officiating.
Visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 to 1:00 on Saturday,
October 13. Burial will be in Greenleafton Cemetery. Hindt-Hudek
Funeral Home Preston, MN is assisting the family.
Peter Donald “Pete” Bissen was born on September, 4, 1959, in Rose
Creek, Minnesota, son of Donald and Georgia (Langmo) Bissen. He was a
1978 graduate of Southland High School. Pete furthered his education
and graduated from community college from Austin, Minnesota, as a Tool &
Die Machinist. On October 6, 1995, Pete married Annie-Laurie Knowles at
the Christ Episcopal Church in Austin, Minnesota.
Pete was a longtime volunteer EMT for the Preston ambulance. He
worked at Preston Iron Works for 19 years, Valley Design 3 years, EZ
Fab in Chatfield for 3 years, and was presently working at Custom Iron
in Zumbrota.
He was very active around the community. Pete coached High School Jr.
League Bowling, Boy Scout Leader, and volunteered at Greenleafton Reformed
Church. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and collecting model trains. Pete
was a huge sports fan. He cheered for Fillmore Central High School,
Minnesota Vikings and Twins.
Peter is survived by his wife Annie-Laurie Bissen of Greenleafton,
Minnesota; sons Jay and Joshua Bissen of Greenleafton, Minnesota; his
mother Georgia Bissen of Winona, Minnesota, sister Theresa Santema of
Stewartville, Minnesota, and brother Paul Bissen of Winona, Minnesota;
mother-in-law Ann J. Knowles of Mankato, Minnesota, brothers-in-law
Christopher (Melissa Donley) Knowles of Lakeville, Minnesota, Patrick
(Danielle) Knowles of Scottsdale, Arizona, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Donald Bissen, aunt Frances,
and father-in-law William Knowles.

Clinton David Sorlie 1936-2018
Clinton David Sorlie, 82, passed away Oct. 1, 2018, after a courageous
battle with cancer.
David was born in Dawson, Minnesota, on May 21, 1936, to Clinton
and Kathleen (Kern) Sorlie. David grew up in Dawson before moving to
Minneapolis with his family in 1952. There he graduated from West High
School. In 1953, he started his eight years in the Naval Reserve. In
1954, he married Betty Schleske and they had four children. In 1968,
they moved to Austin, Minnesota, where they raised their family and
were later divorced. David worked for the Austin Police Department for
28 years before retiring in 1996.
David loved golfing, reading, traveling and fishing. While in Austin,
he was a member of the Austin Noon Kiwanis Club and served as president
from 2012 to 2013. He served on the Austin City Employees Credit Union
board from 1988 until 2005. David was also one of the captains of the
Spamtown Belle while living in Austin.
In 1989, David married Marlys (Lenz) Thorsheim. They had many years
of fun and travel together and were able to see most of the United States,
including Hawaii four times. They also traveled to Jamaica, Cabo San Lucas,
Cozumel, Cancun, the Grand Turks, St. Thomas and the Bahamas. In 2013,
they moved north and settled in Backus, Minnesota, on Ponto Lake. This
was a dream come true for them, meeting lots of new people and enjoying
the relaxed up north life. David also enjoyed many fun trips to Arkansas
or Florida golfing with his best friend, Duane Klingerman.
David was a huge fan of the Twins, but his passion was the Minnesota
Vikings. He was always waiting for the Super Bowl win! Every end of season,
it was always the “there’s always next year!” David also enjoyed reading
and playing cribbage at the Young at Heart Senior Club in Longville,
Minnesota. He will be greatly missed by his wife, family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Diane (Ralph) Rich;
and father-in-law, Albert Lenz. Survivors include his wife, Marlys; son,
Kevin (Sally) Sorlie of Motley, Minnesota; daughters, Debra (Robert)
Westbrook of Norfolk, Virginia, Susan (Tim) Singley of Great Mills,
Maryland, and Patricia (Ted) Nagel of Cornell, Wisconsin; stepchildren,
Katie (Derrick) Chapman of Rochester, Minnesota, and Matthew Thorsheim
(Cassidy Bruyere) of Bemidji, Minnesota; grandchildren, Melissa, Erin,
Colin, Beth, David, James, Steve, Jeff, Olivia, Simone, Norah and Matthew
Jr.; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Michael Sorlie of Seattle, Washington;
brother-in-law, Ralph Rich of Lakeville, Minnesota; mother-in-law, Helen
Lenz of Austin; sister-in-law, Mary (John) Ostertag of Plover, Wisconsin;
brother-in-law, Don (Linda) Lenz of Austin; nieces, nephews and other
relatives and friends.

Phyllis Mae (Hanson, Klampe, Fossey) DUNLAVEY 1933-2018
Our mom, Phyllis Mae (Fossey) Dunlavey, brightened this earth for 85 years and answered Jesus’ call to heaven on Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City, Iowa, after many years of failing health with Parkinson’s Disease and dementia.
Phyllis was born on Sept. 5, 1933, in Austin, Minnesota. She was the
fourth of seven children born to Andrew and Anna (Wortz) Hanson.
She attended school in Austin and Lyle, Minnesota, and married Don
Klampe at the age of 16. They had three children: Daniel, Susan, and a
stillborn son, Kenneth. Several years after her marriage to Don ended,
she met Wayne Fossey at the Terp Ballroom in Austin. Married in 1969,
they farmed in rural St. Ansgar, Iowa, while raising their two daughters,
Tamera and Janis. Wayne died after nearly 23 years of marriage, leaving
Phyllis on her own again. Later, while attending a grief support group
in Mason City, she met Frank Dunlavey and they married in 1993. She
lovingly embraced Frank’s two sons, Paul and Rick, and was later thrilled
to help care for Paul’s young children, David and Julia. Frank and Phyllis
were married for 23 years before his death in 2017.
Mom loved spending time with her family and friends, all little children,
her annual visits to Ingham Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp, going to garage
sales, crocheting, and traveling to many places around the United States
and the world. She spent many years working at Good Samaritan Center in
St. Ansgar as well as volunteering at Mercy Hospital and the foster
grandparent Program in the Mason City School District.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; three sisters;
her husbands; and stepson, Rick Dunlavey.
Survivors include many loving family and friends including son, Daniel
(Barb) Klampe; daughters, Susan Dahle (Jerry Ford), Tamera (Matthew) Penning
and Janis (Bruce) Abkes; stepson, Paul Dunlavey; 10 grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister; one
brother; and many nieces and nephews, including her extra-special niece,
Rosemary Shutt, who was like a daughter to her.
A celebration of life service will be held on at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct.
7, 2018, at Mona Lutheran Church near Lyle. Visitation will begin an hour
before. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Mona
Lutheran Church, Ingham Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp, or Hospice of North Iowa.
Our family would like to say a special thank you to the amazing staff
at Good Shepherd Health Center’s memory care unit, who loved our mom and
treated her like family. We are also grateful to the nurses of Hospice of
North Iowa, who cared tenderly for our mom, kept her comfortable to the
end, and welcomed us daughters to be with our mom when she passed.
Our mom truly enriched our lives and will be missed. As a follower of
Jesus Christ, she is now rejoicing and we know one day we will meet again.

Beverly Barbara (Babcock) Houston 1937-2018
Beverly B. Houston, 81, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Saturday,
Sept. 29, 2018, at her home.
Beverly Barbara Babcock was born May 20, 1937, in West Concord, Minnesota,
to Birdge and Juliu (Rafferty) Babcock. She was raised with her siblings Ole,
Bud, George, David, Lola, Irene, Eunice, Mary, Jean, and Elaine. Bev attended
school in West Concord, graduating with the class of 1954, then attended
beauty school. She made her living as a hairdresser for many years.
On Nov. 25, 1956, she was united in marriage to Billie F. Houston at
St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. The couple raised four children. Billie
passed away in December 2011. Bev treasured the time spent with her grandkids
and her dog was very special to her. She will be dearly missed by her loving
family and many friends.
Survivors include her sons, Brian (Deanna) Houston of Onamia,
Minnesota, Thomas Houston of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, and Todd
(Theresa) Houston of Ellsworth, Wisconsin; daughter, Susanne (James)
Crabtree of Blooming Prairie; grandchildren, Christine, Mathew, Katherine,
Amy, Amber, Heather, Alexander, Tyler and Noah; many great-grandchildren;
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by
her parents; and her husband, Billie.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018,
at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Madison Chelberg
officiating. Visitation will for one hour before the
service on Thursday at the church. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Eugene Thomas White 1939-2018
Eugene T. White, 79, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully
surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at Mayo
Clinic Health System in Austin.
Eugene Thomas was born on July 5, 1939, in Austin to Maynard and Ruth
(Sowden) White. Gene was a lifelong Austin resident. He attended Austin
High School, then went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army.
He completed his 20 years of military service in the National Guard.
He was united in marriage to Mary Krofta in Austin. With great joy, he
adopted his son, Chris. Gene was a longtime employee of Hormel Foods in
Austin, retiring after over 34 years. His wife, Mary, passed away in 2000.
On July 17, 2001, Gene married Diane Anfinson and they continued to reside
in Austin. Gene enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.
In his retirement, he was a driver for the Ford dealer, making deliveries
to many different cities in Minnesota and around the country.
He is survived by his wife, Diane of Austin; son, Chris of Austin;
stepdaughters, Sherri Longe of Freeborn, Minnesota, and Sandi Batten of
Albert Lea, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren;
sister, Joann Shuck of Austin; brother, Ronnie (Randi) White of Waseca,
Minnesota; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary, in 2000; sisters,
Avid Wood and Gloria White; and brother, Robert White.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018,
at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Gene’s family will greet
friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Worlein Funeral
Home. Interment with military honors will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.

Lois M. (Ringenberg) O'Connell 1935-2018
September 7, 1935 - September 26, 2018 (age 83)
Lois M. O’Connell, age 83, of Spring Valley, Minnesota, died Wednesday,
September 26, 2018, at Spring Valley Living where she resided.
Funeral Mass for Lois M. O’Connell will be held 10:30 Monday, October
1, 2018, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley, Minnesota, with
Father Marreddy Pothireddy officiating. Burial will be in St Bridget’s
Cemetery in Simpson, MN. Visitation will be held 3-6 p.m. Sunday, September
30, 2018, with a prayer service starting at 2:45. The visitation will
continue for 1hr prior to the service on Monday.
She was born September 7, 1935, in Austin, MN to Dewey and Lydia (Meyer)
Ringenberg. She attended and graduated from school in Rochester, MN and
was united in marriage to Nicholas J. O’Connell on April 27, 1956 in
Austin, MN. In 1962 they moved to Spring Valley, MN where they started
O’Connell Construction in 1969. Lois worked as the bookkeeper for the
company for many years. She enjoyed the grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
sporting events, playing pool, dancing, and playing cards with family and
friends.
She is survived by her children; Jim (Vicky) O’Connell of Spring
Valley, Jerry (Ronda) O’Connell of Naples, FL, Dave (Laurie) O’Connell
of Hudson, WI, Dan “Joe” (Patty) O’Connell of Spring Valley, Lori (Alec)
Stier of Grand Meadow, Bryan (Kathy) O’Connell of Spring Valley, Wayne
(Brenda) O’Connell of Byron and Lana (Dave) Blanchard of Spring Valley,
26 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers; William (Mary)
Ringenberg and Robert (Jeanine) Ringenberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Nicholas in
April 1999 and a sister Connie Jones.

Janet Kathryn (Smith) Borchardt 1931-2018
Obituary
Janet Kathryn Borchardt, age 87 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away
peacefully Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Primrose Retirement Community.
Janet Kathryn Smith was born on March 20, 1931, in Austin, Minnesota the
daughter of Ray and Laura (Hustad) Smith. She graduated with the class of
1949 from Austin High School. Janet then went on to attend Austin Junior
College, graduating in 1951. On May 8, 1954, she was united in marriage to
Howard Borchardt in Austin. Together the couple raised 4 children. Janet
worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. for
over 25 years.
She was the president and treasurer of the hospital auxiliary at the
Austin Medical Center, and belonged to the Austin High School Alumni and
Friends. Janet was also an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church where
she was in the choir, Northwestern Singers, and Second Edition. She loved
to be with her family, especially her grandchildren, and attended every
event she could. Janet will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Laura Smith, her husband, Howard in 2014, sisters, Carol Oppegard, and Peggy
List and her brother, Ray Smith.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 26,
2018 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Niethammer officiating.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, at Worlein
Funeral Home in Austin and will continue for one hour prior to the service
on Friday at the church. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin.

Jerry Bugge 1942-2018
Jerry Bugge, 76, of Faribault, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday,
Sept. 29, 2018, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Jerry was born on June 27, 1942, in Austin, Minnesota, to Erving and
Marge Bugge. He graduated from Austin High School in 1960. After graduation,
he moved to California and managed a chain of fast food restaurants in the
Oakland, California, area. In the early 70s, he moved to Faribault and
managed Mealy’s Restaurant. He was also employed at Crown Cork and Seal
and Cabela’s.
He was an avid fisherman and loved to do tournaments with Bernie. He
never missed a Viscomi hockey game ever. He loved his dog, Daisy. He had
great respect for Native American culture. He was always up for a game
of bags. He was the first to offer help and the last to ever complain.
He will truly be missed as a friend, father, brother, and grandpa. God
bless you Jerry; you are always in our hearts.
Jerry is survived by his children, Kelli (Bruce) Rayburn of El Sobrante,
California, Michael (Geneva) Bugge of Richmond, California, and Sara
Marquez of El Sobrante; grandchildren, Jack, Penelope and Lula; sisters,
Sandy Fielding and Wanda (Jon) Lenoch; nieces and nephews. Jerry is also
survived by his special friend, Toni Mickelson; her special children,
Janna and Bernie Viscomi; special grandchildren, Nikki and Dylan Eastman,
Andrew Viscomi and Chris Viscomi; and special great-grandchild, Eli Eastman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Erving and Marge Bugge.
At his request, his body was bequeathed to Mayo Clinic for education
and no service will be held.

Jack Henry Horstmann 1935-2018
May 23, 1935 - October 2, 2018
Jack Henry Horstmann, 83, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Oct. 2,
2018, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea.
Jack was born May 23, 1935, in Holloway, Minnesota. On Jan. 17, 1959,
he married Charlotte Irvin at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin.
Jack and Charlotte were married for 49 years until her death in 2008.
Jack spent most of his working career at American Can Company in Austin.
In addition to raising four sons, Jack had many hobbies, including riding
his motorcycle, buying and selling cars, taking care of his dogs and
fishing. Jack was truly a man with many talents. There wasn’t anything
he couldn’t fix and he will be missed by many.
Survivors include his four sons, Jim (Marylee) of Eden Prairie,
Minnesota, Jon of Kellogg, Minnesota, Joe (Shari) of Northfield,
Minnesota, and Jeff (Tesa) of Austin; six grandchildren, Katie, Kyle,
Jacob, Joshua, Ethan and Evan; and a sister, Jackie Pike, Austin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hank and Margaret Horstmann;
and wife, Charlotte A. Horstmann.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018,
at Mayer Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Tamke officiating. Friends may
call from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, and one hour before the
service on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home. Interment will be in Calvary
Cemetery.
His last days were spent in his home under the care of Seasons Hospice
and the loving support of brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bruce and
Charmaine Turner.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer
Society.

Shirley Marjorie (Eitreim) Knowlton 1924-2018
Shirley M. Knowlton, 93, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday,
Oct. 3, 2018, at Sacred Heart Care Center.
Shirley Marjorie Eitreim was born Oct. 23, 1924, in Rock County,
Minnesota, the daughter of Willie and Julia (Edmundson) Eitreim. She
attended school in Beaver Creek, Minnesota, graduating with the Class
of 1942. Following her graduation, Shirley attended business school in
Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
On Nov. 8, 1947, she married Dale D. Knowlton
at Palisades Lutheran Church near Luverne, Minnesota. The couple moved
to Austin in 1956, where Shirley worked for Austin Public Schools as a
secretary for the business director in the administration office,
retiring after 26 years. Shirley was a devoted fan of the Minnesota
Twins and belonged to the Mower County Senior Citizens Center and
Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir. She loved
to golf, read, play bridge, take walks, and was an excellent dancer.
After retirement, Shirley enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii,
and taking many bus trips. She will be dearly missed by all who knew
and loved her.
Shirley is survived by her children, Jill (Steve) Johnson of The
Villages, Florida, Steven (Brenda) Knowlton of Lakeville, Minnesota,
and Susan (Bradley) Bednar of Austin; eight grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Warren Eitreim of Parker, South
Dakota, and Milton (Mary Lou) Eitreim of Savage, Minnesota; one sister,
Mildred Larson of Armour, South Dakota; and many other relatives and
friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale,
in 2017; two brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018,
at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Karen Behling
officiating. Visitation will be for one hour immediately preceding the
service on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oakwood
Cemetery. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home

Lois Ruth (Huemoeller) Bergene 1933-2018

Lois Ruth Bergene, 85 of rural Adams, Minnesota, died at her home on
Friday, October 5, 2018.
Lois was born August 27, 1933 in Lakefield, Minnesota to Walter and
Alma (Mrotz) Huemoeller. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in
1951 and from Mankato State Teachers College in 1954. Lois married Ward
Bergene on June 19, 1955 at Hayward Lutheran Church.
Lois was a member of the League of Women Voters, the Adams Legion
Auxiliary and Little Cedar Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday
school and was involved in the women’s groups.
She enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge, golfing, bowling,
camping, gardening, cooking, baking and entertaining.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Alma Huemoeller;
husband, Ward Bergene; granddaughter, Tegan Christopherson; brothers,
Robert Huemoeller and Donald Huemoeller; brothers-in-law, Bruce Kermes
and Conrad Sletta.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 12th
at Little Cedar Lutheran Church with the Reverend Jeremy Johnson officiating.
Interment will be at Little Cedar Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Adams
Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday

Obituary
Marcella M. “Sally” Anderson, age 90 of Hayward, Minnesota died Friday
night, October 5, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea,
Minnesota.
Marcella Marie Jensen was born October 17, 1927, in rural Freeborn
County, Minnesota the daughter of Walter and Anna (Nelson) Jensen. She
received her education at a country school in Freeborn County. On January
24, 1946, she was united in marriage to Orris Anderson at Trinity Lutheran
Church near Bixby, Minnesota. The couple lived most of their marriage in
Hayward, except for a short time when they lived in Blooming Prairie.
Sally liked to dance, play cards, quilting, and loved to work on
puzzles. She was a member of the Hayward Lutheran Church, the Hayward
Senior Citizens Center, and Ladies Auxiliary in Blooming Prairie. She
also enjoyed coffee parties and attending birthday parties. Orris died
on February 8, 1991 and Sally returned to Hayward to live after his death.
Sally is survived by her six children, Nelda (Ed) Haberman of
Blooming Prairie, Kenneth Anderson of Austin, Lori (Phil) Rauen of
Austin, Paula (Gary) Broitzman of Hayward, Dean (Kellie) Anderson of
Hayward and Dale Anderson of Albert Lea; 15 grandchildren; 24
great-grandchildren12 great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters,
Leslie Jensen of Mapleview, Donald (Carol) Jensen of Kiester;
sisters-in-laws, Marlys Loew of Blooming Prairie, and Jan Jensen of
Hollandale; brother, Roger Anderson of Austin; many nieces, nephews
and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Anna Jensen;
her husband, Orris; two granddaughters, Mindy Rauen and Ann Broitzman;
great-grandson William Cech; six brothers; four sisters; several
sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 11,
2018 at the Hayward Lutheran Church in Hayward, Minnesota with Pastor
Joshua Enderson, officiating. Interment will follow the service at
Red Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery, rural Austin, Minnesota. Visitation
will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at
the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and for one hour prior to the service

Jewell H. Ruud 1930-2018

Funeral services for Jewell H. Ruud will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday
October 8, 2018 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spring Valley with
Rev Mark VanHouse and Rev Joe Haynes officiating. Burial will be in

Jewell Ruud, age 88, of Spring Valley died Thursday October 4, 2018,
at the Stewartville Care Center.
Jewell Bauch was born September 18, 1930 in Cresco, Iowa to Henry
and Tena Bauch. She attended school in Le Roy, MN and was united in
marriage to Rodney Ruud on March 5, 1948 and together had three daughters;
Rita, Kathy and Marcia. Jewell worked for many years at the IGA Grocery
Store in Spring Valley and for Hillside Home in later years.
She served as an usher for Saturday Night
worship services at Our Saviors in Spring
Valley and also assisted and ushered for funerals at Our Saviors. She also
volunteered at the nursing home. Jewell enjoyed fishing, shopping, going
to the casino, being around people but most of all enjoyed spending time
with her family. She always had the “Best” Christmases.
She is survived by her three daughters: Rita (Wayne) Fenske of Reads
Landing, Kathy (Bill) Foster and Marcia (Tony) Ptacek both of Spring
Valley, eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rodney in
1990, a granddaughter Michele “Shelly”, three brothers, two sisters
and her aunt and uncle that raised her; Nettie & Henry Rosenthol.
Memorial may be sent to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the activities
department at the Stewartville Care Center or the donor’s choice.

Obituary for Frank "Johnny" Goertz
Frank J. “Johnny” Goertz, age 78, of Austin, died Tuesday, October 9,
2018, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester.
Johnny was born January 12, 1940, two minutes apart from his identical
twin brother, Franklin, to John and Margaret (Brown) Goertz in Mountain
Lake, Minnesota. He served in the United States Army and also the National
Guard.
Johnny enjoyed watching sports especially football and the WWF. He
loved being around family and would do anything for anybody even if it
meant going without for himself. Johnny was a painter with Greg Turner
Painting.
Survivors include his son, Trent Goertz, Blooming Prairie, his daughter,
Teresa Gentry, Mankato, his son, Richard Hall, Arizona; grandchildren, Bryan
Goertz, Rochester, Rebecca Gentry, Mankato, Jeremiah Gentry, Mankato;
great-granddaughter, Nova Fisher, Mankato; his twin brother, Franklin
Goertz, Rochester.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Goertz; his
sister, Ann Prokes; his brother, David Goertz.
Graveside services will be held 2 pm on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at
Grandview Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #91 and
V.F.W. Post #1216.

Elizabeth “Betty” Apold, age, 92 of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday,
October 10, 2018, at the Cedars of Austin.
Betty was born June 20 1926, in Austin, Minnesota, to Leonard Clay and
Ruth E. (Peck) Heisey. She grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin
High School in 1944.
On August 3, 1946 she was united in marriage to Burdette D. Apold,
at First United Methodist Church, until his death on July 27, 1969.
Betty moved to St. Paul in 1973 until returning to Austin in June 2017.
Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church in Austin and
Hamline United Methodist in St. Paul. She was active in Beta Sigma Phi,
Austin YMCA, and Girl Scouts. Betty enjoyed golfing, sewing, crafts and
gardening.
She is survived by two daughters; Cindy Countz of Lakeville, Minnesota
and Nancy (Jim) Heimer of Austin, MN; six grandchildren, and 10
great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, husband “Birdy”, and brother
Leonard Claire Heisey.
A Memorial Service for Elizabeth"Betty" Apold will be held at 11 am on
Monday, October 22, 2018 at Hamline Church. Friends may call one hour
prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in

Olven Leo Rohde 1941-2018
Olven Leo Rohde, age 76, of Osage, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, October
10, 2018 at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Society.
Mr. Rohde was born October 21, 1941 in Mona, Iowa, the son of George
H. and Millie P. (Barnett) Rohde. He was from a large family, growing
up and attending school in Mona with eight brothers and four sisters.
Olven belonged to Mona Lutheran Church, and in his leisure time enjoyed
being outside fishing, doing lawn work, and going to the fair and to
amusement parks.
He was great at repairs, often tinkering with lawn mowers and other
small motors. Olven was especially entertained by watching old-time
television shows and he spent countless hours caring for his nieces and
nephews. He was a devoted brother, uncle and friend who will be dearly
missed by all who knew and loved him.
Olven is survived by his brother Duane Rohde of Maplewood, Minnesota and
his sisters Reta Rohde of Austin and Rosella (Richard) Hagelund of
St. Ansgar, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews,
others relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at Mona Lutheran Church, Mona, Iowa, at
11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 15, 2018 with Pastor Scott Meyer officiating.
There will be a visitation held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14
at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and for one hour prior to the service
at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin.

Boe Reh 1980-2018
Boe Reh, age 37 of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, October 8, 2018 at
his home.
Boe was born December 7, 1980, in Burma, Thailand, to Nga Reh and Dah
Meh. In February of 2001, he married Lee Myar in Thailand. Together the
couple had three children. While living in Burma, Boe worked as a farmer
and at refugee camps for 13 years. The couple then moved to the United
States and have been here almost 10 years. They resided in Austin, and
Boe started working for QPP and then most recently at the Rochester Meat
Company. He enjoyed fishing, watching TV, and movies. Boe will be dearly
missed by all who knew and loved him.
Boe is survived by his wife, Lee Myar of Austin, Minnesota; children,
Beh Reh of Austin, Minnesota, Nay Meh of Austin, Minnesota, Tu Meh of
Austin, Minnesota; brothers, Den Reh of Utah, Neh Reh of Texas; sisters,
Tu Meh of New York, Pray Meh of Thailand. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Nga Reh and Dah Meh.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 12, 2018

Arnold O. Johnson, 93 of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, October 12,
2018, at the Adams Health Care Center, Adams, Minnesota.
Arnold Odean Johnson was born March 22, 1925, at Austin, Minnesota, the
son of Oscar and Bernice (Roberts) Johnson. He graduated from Austin High
School and served in the US Army during WWII. Arnold was married to Norma
Beatrice Opsahl on October 5, 1947 at the St. Olaf Lutheran Parsonage in
Austin, Minnesota. They made their home in the Lyle and Austin area while
Arnold worked at the Geo. A. Hormel Co. and farmed.
Arnold was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars
and the Moose Club. He enjoyed farming, raising animals, reading Westerns,
playing cards, fishing, hunting, bowling, playing pool and horseshoes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Bernice Johnson;
wife, Norma; brothers, Burnett and Dale Johnson; stepmother, Agnes Johnson
and stepsister, Dorothy Einertson.
Arnold is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Lee
Lindquist, Austin, Minnesota, Vicki Johnson and Don Clark, Gardner,
Montana; his son, Arnie Dean Johnson, Mapleview, Minnesota; six
grandchildren, Tamara (Troy) Woods, St. Ansgar, Iowa, Jolane (Scott)
Hansen, Toeterville, Iowa, Holli (Douglas) Naatz, Blooming Prairie,
Minnesota, Oscar Lindquist, Brooklyn, New York, Carl Lindquist, Austin,
Minnesota, and Arne Dean Johnson, Mapleview, Minnesota; ten
great-grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren; brother, Charles
E. Johnson, Austin, Minnesota; nieces and nephews.

Roger William Towles 1946-2018
Roger William Towles, 72, a native son of Austin, Minnesota, passed
away September 29, 2018, at Eden Hospital in Castro Valley, California.
Born March 22, 1946, to Quentin Towles and Mary Grimes Towles in Austin,
Roger grew up with three older sisters and attended Pacelli High School.
Shortly after graduating in 1964, Roger moved to California.
He started a career in lithography, where he was a long-time employee of
Westgate Press and Madison St. Press in Oakland, California, and retired
in 2008. Roger married Margaret “Peggy” LaDue in March 1976 and they had
a son, Christopher. Together, they raised Christopher and Jeffrey Lucas
(stepson) for over 12 years, after which Roger became widowed.
He was a devoted and hard-working single father, coach, and mentor to
Christopher and Jeffrey. Roger and his birth child, John Glover (separated
by adoption), established a loving relationship in John’s adulthood. Roger
is remembered as a selfless family patriarch, tech enthusiast, outdoorsman,
and loving grandfather.
Roger joins his wife, Peggy (1987); and son, Jeffrey (2017); in heaven.
Roger is survived by his sons, Christopher Towles (Nicole), Albany,
California, and John Glover (Carissa), Pleasanton, California; sisters,
Patricia Sanderson, Appleton, Wisconsin, Barbara Citrano, Berkeley,
California, and Marsha Harbin, Racine, Wisconsin; sisters-in-law, Pat
LaDue, Mendocino, California, and Kathy LaDue (Discovery Bay, CA); Nieces
Leanne LaDue (Mendocino, CA), Loni Bethea, Bear Dam, Wisconsin, Leann
Greenquist, Racine, Denice Legois, Burlington, Wisconsin, Kelli Rayburn
(Bruce), El Sobrante, California, and Sara Marquez, El Sobrante; nephews,

2018, at Bethlehem Free Methodist Church in Austin with Pastor Paul Steele
officiating.
Visitation: Jimmy’s family will greet friends for one hour before the
service on Monday at the church.
Interment: Interment with military honors by VFW Post 1216 and American
Legion Post 91 will follow at Grandview Cemetery.

Judith Kay (Riles) Perkins 1943-2018

Obituary for Judith Kay Perkins
Judith Kay Perkins, 74 of Austin died October 15, 2018, at St. Mary’s
Hospital Rochester.
She was born December 13, 1943, in Austin, Minnesota, to Kenneth and
Margaret (McNee) Riles of Lansing, Minnesota. She attended Lansing School
and graduated from Austin High School in 1961.
On April 5th, 1968 she was united in marriage to Paul Perkins from
Austin.
Judy was a homemaker, worked at Piggly Wiggly, Super Valu and retired from
Weyerhaeuser after 24 years. She was a dynamic softball player. She enjoyed
bowling, car races, watching the Minnesota Twins and listening to Elvis.
Judy is survived by her husband Paul; brothers Dick (Marie) Riles,
John Riles, Doug (Ruth) Riles, Steve (Mary) Riles, and Jim (Carolyn)
Riles; sister in law Cheryl Riles; many nieces and nephews.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents; stepfather Peder Madson
and brother Dave Riles
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 1:00 pm October 27, 2018, at
St. Edwards Catholic Church, with Father John Traufler officiating.
Friends may call from 4-7 pm Friday October 26, 2018 at Mayer Funeral
Home and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Carol Jean (Molash) Climer 1946-2018
Carol J. Climer, age 72, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday,
October 17, 2018 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.
Carol Jean Molash was born February 3, 1946, in Bemidji, Minnesota,
the daughter of James and Mabel (Castonguay) Molash. Carol grew up and
attended school in Bemidji. On June 24, 2006, she married Edward James
Climer, Sr. Ed passed away March 13, 2013. In addition to her role as
homemaker, Carol worked as a part-time bartender in Minneapolis for many
years. Her family and friends will miss her dearly.
Survivors include her son James (Marge) Locke of Austin; many
grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn (Earl)
Molash of Winona, Mary Ann Molash of California, and her longtime friend
Norma Cook of Austin. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her
husband Ed, her daughter Marie Anne Locke, and her brother Pat Molash.
A private family memorial service will be held. Worlein Funeral Home of
Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.

John O'Rourke 1934-2018
March 23, 1934 - October 18, 2018
U.S. Veteran
John O'Rourke, former Austin, Minnesota Mayor and “Hall of Fame” honoree
by the “Minnesota Radio-TV Broadcasters” has passed away on Thursday.
October 18, 2018, he was 84.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Grimley O’Rourke, his son, Stefan
of Keystone, Colorado; his daughter, Erin Schoen (Brian Schoen) of Austin,
Minnesota and his grandchildren, Sarah Schoen and Nicole Schoen. His sister
is Sheila Belting of Tucson, Arizona and brothers are Gerald O’Rourke of
Australia and Rev. Bryan O’Rourke of Los Angeles, California.
He was the eldest of four children born to Frank and Helen (McDonough)
O’Rourke on March 23, 1934. John graduated from Cretin High School in
St. Paul in 1952 and spent 1953 at St. Thomas College. In 1954, he
enrolled at Brown Institute of Broadcasting in Minneapolis to learn
the business of radio/TV. While at Brown, he had a part-time job at
WCCO-Radio in Minneapolis. After finishing training at Brown, Uncle
Sam said John should join his Army and he spent the next two years
on-the-air in South Korea with “Radio Gypsy”. Out of the Army in 1956,
he got radio jobs on stations in La Junta, Colorado, Ottumwa, Iowa, and
Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
In February 1961, he arrived in Austin and became the Sports Director
of KAUS Radio and KAAL-TV. He enjoyed broadcasting Austin High and Pacelli
sports events, news and sports programs. In 1972, Riverland Community College
asked John to begin a Radio and Television Broadcasting program to train
broadcasting students; it was a program he enjoyed until his retirement
in 1995. John served as Mayor of Austin from 1986 to 1996, which he also
enjoyed.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October
24th at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Bryan O’Rourke officiating.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Austin Post #91 American Legion and
Olaf B. Damm Post #1216 Veterans of Foreign Wars are in charge of military
rites. There will be a rosary at 3:45 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.
on Tuesday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary where friends may call from 4:00 to
7:00 p.m. There will also be visitation at the church one hour before
the service on Wednesday.

David Louis Sash 1948-2018
October 23, 1948 - October 18, 2018
David L. Sash Sr., 69 years, of Brownsdale, Minnesota died on Thursday, October 18th, 2018 at Fairview Ridges Hospital emergency room in Burnsville, Minnesota from complications of pneumonia after a long battle with lung cancer. He had traveled to celebrate his 70th birthday with his honorary daughter, Nicole Scott.
David was born on October 23, 1948 in Austin, Minnesota to Elmer and Beverlee (Ekedal) Sash. He graduated from Hayfield High School in 1967.
David began over the road trucking in 1970, working for Atlas Van Lines of Rochester, E.L. Murphy Trucking of Eagan, D&T Trucking of New Brighton and Triangle Enterprises of Delano. He traveled approximately 5,000,000 miles and earned numerous safe driving awards over the years, including driver of the year in 1997. After Triangle Enterprises closed their doors in 2002, David attended South East Technical Institute for heavy equipment operation. He spent many years as owner operator semi driver. It was a tough life and in 2012, David was diagnosed with lung cancer.
A quiet solitary man, David spent the last 6 years where he grew up, on the family farm fighting cancer. He enjoyed reminiscing about his childhood days. It gave him great pleasure and peace to be on the home place, driving to familiar sites, and working on Elmer’s tractors . He was always trying to be helpful, no matter how ill he felt.
David had a passion, tinkering and restoring old vehicles. He recently had devoted much time and effort restoring his father’s (Elmer’s) 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit and a 1977 Ford F-150 pick-up.
He was especially proud of his son, D.J.’s, accomplishments as a racer, owner & operator of The Shop in Duluth, Minnesota, an exclusive automotive business that also focuses on specialty cars. Dave was always eager to talk about DJ’s races, times and share pictures of DJ’s recently built race cars.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his sons, Karry (Sash-Esson) Reasor; his father and stepmother, Elmer and Josephine Sash; and his mother and stepfather, Beverlee and Roy Crowson.
David is survived by his sons, David (Tracy) Sash Jr, Duluth, Minnesota; Eric Sash, Louisville, Kentucky; Nicole (Mathew) Scott, who was like a daughter, her children Jordan, Jagger and Madison, Burnsville, Minnesota; granddaughter, Rebecca (Brian) DeMar, Superior, Wisconsin; great-granddaughters, Kenna and Ayla DeMar, Superior, Wisconsin; brothers, Victor (June) Sash, Rochester, Minnesota; Mark (Grace) Crowson, Seattle Washington; sisters, Cindy (Steve) Howard, Pipestone, Minnesota; and Bette (Baylen) Kreiter, Spokane Washington; Wendy (William) Barrows, Salem, Oregon; Jennifer (Gary) Sublett, Walla Walla, Washington; nieces and nephews, cousins.
A memorial service is planned for May 2019 at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin.

Richard M. Day 1936-2018
Richard M. Day, 82, of Bemidji, Minnesota, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2018,
at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, following heart surgery.
Richard Day was born April 29, 1936, in Morristown, Minnesota, to
Merton and Gertrude (Kaul) Day. He graduated from Austin High School.
He was enlisted in the U.S. Army for three years. On March 25, 1956, he
married Ann Marie E. Nerad of Myrtle, Minnesota. Following his military
service, he continued his formal education, which included a bachelors
and master’s degree in French, Spanish and English and a Ph.D. in romance
languages. He taught French for two years in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, and
31 years at Bemidji State University. His life represented a love for his
wife, Ann Marie. He valued his family, friends, mountains and sunsets. He
enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, gardening, all other outdoor activities,
and helping others.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Marie; his son Vincent (Paula);
granddaughter, Anna; grandson, Lucas; and great-grandson, Briar.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at
First Lutheran Church in Bemidji with Pastor Corey Fuhrman officiating.
Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Thursday
at the church. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery im Bemidji.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church and
