Gary Lee Boughten 1961-2018
Gary Lee Boughten, 57, suffered an apparent heart attack on May 11
and passed away Friday, June 15, 2018, after several complications.
The youngest of six children, Gary was born on June 13, 1961, to Richard
and Lenora (Andersen) Boughten in Austin, Minnesota. He grew up in Rose
Creek, Minnesota, and graduated in 1979 from Southland High School in
Adams, Minnesota. He moved to Oklahoma for work and met his devoted wife
of 32 years, Kimberly (Young). The couple married May 3, 1986, and had
two children, Brittany and Jake.
Gary took wood shop classes in high school and discovered a talent
for woodworking. He turned his talent into a trade as a carpenter. Gary
designed and built cabinets, mantles, tables and other wood installments
across Oklahoma in homes and various banks, businesses and churches,
including his family church. He was especially proud of the work he did
at B.C. Clark’s Jeweler’s downtown location. Father Constantine Nasr at
St. Elijah’s Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church told Gary his hands were
“blessed by God.”
His trade was so much a part of him that he almost always had a carpenter’s
pencil nearby, tucked behind his ear or in a pocket. He painted his tools
pink to make sure borrowed tools returned quickly. He was a loyal employee,
working for Contemporary Cabinets for 24 years. As a journeyman carpenter,
he trained many apprentices. He was a very hard worker and a perfectionist
on the job. While he showed respect to his crew, Gary also wanted his
‘hand’ and crew to share his work ethics and expectations.
Though he worked hard, he played with an almost ‘child-like’ approach.
His favorite playmate was his 4-year-old granddaughter, Braylee, with whom
he shared many swimming, fishing, bike riding, and park playing adventures.
The annual Boughten family camping trip at Cass Lake, Minnesota, gave Gary
time to fish with his favorite No. 5 crawdad lure while wearing his floppy
hat. His nieces and nephews, and more recently great nieces and nephews,
recognized his “kid at heart” ability to get the whole family into a water
balloon fight or playing games.
Gary was an active member of Putnam City United Methodist Church and
enjoyed working on the kitchen crew for church dinners and manning the
grill for cookouts.
Anyone who knew Gary knew he loved his family and animals, that he
was a talented carpenter and was always ready for a rowdy, loud, fast
and fun time, whether riding Sea Doos or four-wheelers, fishing or being
with family.
Gary leaves his wife, Kim, of the home; daughter, Brittany and Justin
and Ellie, Tyler and Ethan Templeman; son, Jake and Lainey, Braylee and
Kinlee Sue Boughten; his mother, Lenora Boughten; brothers, Larry and
Marie Boughten and Bob and Lori Boughten; sisters, Beverly and Ed Rice
and Nancy Clancy; 21 nieces and nephews; 34 great-nieces and nephews;
plus a host of in-laws and extended family members. He was preceded in
death by his father; his sister, Deb; nephew, Pat; and brother-in-law,
Gary Clancy.
Services were held on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Putnam City United
Methodist Church, 5819 N.W. 41st Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73122. Memorials
in Gary’s name can be made to the church at the above address or to The
Children’s Center in Bethany, Oklahoma, at https://www.miracleshappenhere.org/ways-to-give/donate/.

Goldie Mae Rugg 1929-2018
Goldie Mae Rugg
November 05, 1929 - June 24, 2018
Goldie Mae Rugg, 88 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away at home on
Sunday, June 24, 2018, surrounded by family.
Goldie was born November 5, 1929 in Austin, Minnesota to Harold
“Ole” and Bessie “Bet” (Foster) Richard. She graduated from Austin
High School. She married Dale Rugg, her high school love, on December
3, 1949. Goldie and Dale raised five sons. She began her journey as
a dairy farm wife near Brownsdale, Minnesota, later moving to a dairy
farm west of Lyle and finally to a dairy farm south of Austin; until
they would disperse their herd of registered Holsteins in December,
1974. The herd name was Go-May Holsteins, a prefix Dale chose to
recognize Goldie, the silent partner in their dairy operation.
Goldie’s tasks on the farm ranged from keeping the books to keeping
the milk house spotless. Goldie supported and encouraged growth
opportunities available to her sons through 4-H, FFA, church and
sports activities. She served as a Key Leader for the Enterprise
4-H Club and was recognized as an Honorary Member of the Austin FFA.
Upon retiring as a dairy farm couple, Goldie and Dale moved to Austin.
She worked as a floral clerk at Johnson’s Floral and Hy-Vee. Goldie
cherished helping her son, Ross, at his floral shop in Chanhassen during
busy seasons.
Goldie would readily admit that her favorite “career” was that of being
a wife, mom, Grandma and Great Grandma. She lived for family gatherings
such as confirmations, graduations, weddings and sporting events. Goldie
supported each of her 10 grandchildren, regardless of their interest.
Goldie was a natural in the kitchen. Each and every family activity
and family celebration has been graced with her delicious desserts and
one of a kind potato salad. Goldie accumulated her favorite recipes,
including favorites for Dale and each of her sons and printed them in
a personalized cookbook that would serve as a priceless gift to her family.
Most notably were her infamous Grandma Goldie bars, a sweet whose recipe
can be found when googled.
Goldie developed meaningful and treasured relationships with each
of her daughters-in-law. It was an absolute treat for her to welcome
them into a family that, until the boys married, would be dominated
with male conversations. She was also blessed with a large extended
family of six sisters and two brothers. Together, they share countless
memories of spending time together.
Goldie’s faith and church family at the First United Methodist Church
in Austin were very important to her. She has supported many families by
leading lunch efforts for the Church Circle group. Goldie will be
remembered for being an unselfish person, willing to give of her time
and talents to her family, her friends and her faith.
Goldie is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dale; sons and
daughters-in-law, Greg and Nancy, Austin, Minnesota; Brad and Lorrie,
Owatonna, Minnesota; Rick and Barb, Westby, Wisconsin; Jeff and Mary,
Stevens Point, Wisconsin; Ross and Patti, Bloomington, Minnesota. She
leaves wonderful memories for 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3rd at
First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dennis Tamke and the
Reverend Debbie King Quale officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood
Cemetery. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Monday, July
2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday one hour prior
to the service.
