Eleanor Thelma (Hanson) Augustin 1925-2017
Eleanor T. Augustin, 92, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, Nov.
11, 2017, at Fieldcrest Nursing Home in Hayfield, Minnesota.
Eleanor Thelma Hanson was born June 8, 1925, near Mona in Mitchell County,
Iowa. She attended school in Rose Creek, Minnesota, graduating in 1944.
After completing her education, Eleanor worked at the Geo A. Hormel
Company in Austin until shortly after her marriage.
She was united in marriage to Harold Victor Augustin on July 25, 1948,
at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church near Lyle, Minnesota. The couple made
their home in Austin, where they raised six children. She was an active
member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women's Missionary
League. She enjoyed boating, fishing, bowling, gardening and playing card
games, especially "500." The couple also loved to travel, visiting the
all of the lower 48 and dancing at square dance events.
Harold died on Nov. 17, 2006. Eleanor continued to live in Austin,
moving to The Cedars several years ago and was active in the Red Hat Society
while living there.
Survivors include her children, Bruce (Carole) Augustin of Austin, Karen
(Mark) Rysavy of Bloomington, Minnesota, Brian Augustin of Maple Grove,
Minnesota, Marcia (Kim) Kelly of Rochester, Minnesota, Sharon Kraft of
Burnsville, Minnesota, and Brad (Tina) Augustin of Maplewood, Minnesota;
15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, June Hanson
of Rose Creek; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in
death by her parents; her husband, Harold; brother, Kenneth Hanson; and
a daughter-in-law, Gail Augustin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2017,
at St. John's Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor James Groleau
officiating. Interment will follow the service at Grandview Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 at the Worlein
Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Memorials are requested to the American Heart Association or St. John's
Radio Broadcast. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home

Lila Jane (Benson) Overby c1927-2017
Lila Jane Overby, 90, of Montgomery, Minnesota, formerly of Austin,
Minnesota, passed away Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, at her daughter's home.
Lila is survived by her daughter Lisa (Brian) Zipse of Montgomery; and
other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents,
George and Bertha Benson; husband, Arnold Overby; stepson, Calvin Overby;
by other relatives and friends.
Private graveside services will be held at Grandview Cemetery in Austin.

Jim Richard Crews 1956-2017
Jim Richard Crews, age 61 of Lyle, Minnesota, passed away Sunday,
November 12, 2017 at Rochester East Health Services in Rochester, Minnesota.
Jim was born April 7, 1956 in Austin, Minnesota, to Gerald and Leona
(Sargent) Crews. Jim attended Austin Schools. At an early age Jim went
to work for his father in the family business, Crews Auto Salvage in
Austin. On September 10, 1983 he was united in marriage to Tracey Lynn
Peters at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. Jim and Tracey resided
in Austin and later Lyle. He continued to work for the family business
until poor health forced him to retire early. Jim treasured time spent
with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Tracey; daughters Jamie Crews of Bricelyn, Amy
Crews of Austin; grandchildren Jaden, Kaden, David, Geronimo, Dakoda, and
Riley; brothers Darrell (Jean) Crews of Lyle, Ramon (Sue) Crews of Waltham,
Robert (Valinda) Crews of Austin, Roger (Sandy) Crews of Stacyville, IA;
sisters Marlys Staffon of Austin, Audrey Tindal of Austin, Charlene Krueger
of Austin, Dawn Taylor of Austin, Renae Janey of Hillsboro, WI, Betty (Bill)
Hanson of Austin; father-in-law and mother-in-law Ron and Lois Peters of
Austin; sister-in-law Rhonda Grandy of Helena, MT; brother-in-law Robert
(Marla) Peters of Sioux Falls, SD; many, many nieces and nephews and other
relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Gary; granddaughter Ava.
A memorial gathering will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday,
November 19, 2017 at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, Minnesota.
Interment will be in Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle, Minnesota at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the recipient of the donor's

Joan Patricia (Quinn) Rickerl 1929-2017
June 16, 1929 - November 13, 2017
Joan Patricia Rickerl, age 88, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday,
Nov. 13, 2017, at her home at St. Mark's Memory Care.
Joan was born June 16, 1929, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to John and Rosalie
(Robertson) Quinn. As a young girl, Joan helped her father in his drug
store in Ottumwa. On Nov. 19, 1948, she was united in marriage to Quentin
Rickerl at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Boone, Iowa. The couple moved
to Taopi, Minnesota, then later to Austin. Joan was a nanny for many
families in the Austin area. These families were all very special to her.
Joan was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church, where she served as
a eucharistic minister. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, visiting her
siblings, and most of all, spending time with all of her grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. Children were the light of her life.
Survivors include five children, Ted (Sandy) Rickerl, Owatonna, Minnesota;
Jerome (Liz Coughlin) Rickerl, Austin; Jeff (Marti-Lynn) Rickerl, Austin;
Jackie (Ben) Veri, Rineyville, Kentucky, and Monica Fairchild, Austin;
10 grandchildren, Heather Rickerl, Holly (Tim) Pearson, Kathleen (Brandon)
Weir, Tony (Pam Eickstadt) Rickerl, Michael Crews, Joshua (Shelly Wangen)
Touchton, Michael (Lisa) Veri, Jessa (Zach) Johnson, Christopher Rickerl
and Amanda Rickerl; 10 great-grandchildren, Fritz, Kelsie, Elsa Marie,
CJ, Quinn, Bella, Tellef, Allie, Ruger, and Theodore; brothers, John
(Sara) Quinn, Yulee, Florida, and Thomas (Sheila Lucero) Quinn, Ottumwa;
sisters, Kathleen Wiseman, Bettendorf, Iowa, Susan (Jim) Bailey, Ottumwa,
and Angela Copple, Agawam, Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Quentin Rickerl; her parents;
two sisters, Rosemarie Leininger and Rita Kerkman; brother, James Quinn;
daughter, Teresa Landherr; and grandson, Peter Landherr.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017,
at St. Edward's Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. There
will be a 6 p.m. CCW rosary on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends
may call from 4-6 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service at the church
on Friday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

David Charles Klingfus Sr. 1939-2017
David C. Klingfus Sr., 78, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, November
13, 2017, at his home.
David Charles was born May 9, 1939, in Austin, the son of Ed and Minnie
(Brechtel) Klingfus. He attended country schools. David made his living
as a maintenance supervisor for 40 years, working for Oak Park Mall from
1975-2015 as its first employee. He was especially interested in vehicle
restoration, his favorite being his red pickup truck that he showed from
2003-2015. He traveled throughout the Midwest, receiving 154 trophies
and placing first in his division at World of Wheels.
David was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin. He
especially loved his role as Dad and Grandpa. David and his wife, Val, were
inseparable, and loved to drink classic black Folgers Coffee. He will be
remembered for his quick wit and his eagerness to joke around and have fun.
David is survived by his wife of 17 years, Valerie Klingfus of
Austin; his children, David Jr. (Kim) Klingfus of Austin, and Dee Culbert
(Tom Williams) of Austin; stepsons, Brian Goviera (Rhonda Leon) of Austin
and Dustin Hanson (Hope Weise) of Waseca, Minnesota; stepdaughters, Toni
(Kenny) Burbank of Imboden, Arkansas, Brandie (Mark) Kilgore of Owatonna,
Minnesota, and Amber (Casey) Adams, also of Owatonna; grandchildren,
Chrissy (Vern) Bauer, Kassey Culbert (Eric Anderson), Cody Williams,
Danielle (Aaron) Nickolson, Derek Klingfus, Maggie Klingfus, Ian Klingfus,
Madison Adams, Mackeznie Adams, and Michael Adams; several
step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and honorary grandchildren;
and his brother, Roger (Alice) Klingfus of Waterloo, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy
Klingfus; his second wife, Viola "Vi" Klingfus; his stepdaughter, Betty;
his brothers, Kenny, Chet, Dwayne, Willie, Jim, Don, and Bob; and his
sisters, Marjerie Klingfus, Betty Prigge, and Deloris McAllister.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at
Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Karen Behling and Intern
Pastor Anders Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday,
Nov. 17 at Worlein Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the
church on Saturday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

DeVonna Kathryn Culton 1923-2017
December 24, 1923 - November 10, 2017
DeVonna K. Culton, 93, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, November
10, 2017, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.
DeVonna was born December 24, 1923, in Ord, Nebraska, to Charles and Estella
(Kesler) Bilderback. Her family moved to North Dakota when she was young
and later to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, where she graduated from high school.
She married George Culton on August 12, 1944. DeVonna was a homemaker for most
of her life but she worked for Ankeny's Mini Mart (both numbers 4 & 1) where
she later became manager.
DeVonna was a member of Christian Congregational Church of Hollandale
where she taught Sunday school. She liked crocheting, knitting and making
quilts and she enjoyed playing the game “four sixes” with family and friends.
DeVonna was a devoted Christian, wife, and mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George in 1998;
brother, Charles “Neil” Bilderback; and infant brother, James Bilderback.
DeVonna is survived by her children, Joan Czech, Austin; Wayne Culton,
Austin; Timothy Culton, Austin; grandson, Charlie (Christina) Durham,
Austin; four great-grandsons, Logan Durham, Lucas Durham, Micah Durham,
and Ezekiel Durham; sister-in-law, Tiny Bilderback; and nieces, nephews,
and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, at
Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Rev. Mark Goosen officiating. Interment
will be in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the
service on Saturday.
Memorials are preferred to Sacred Heart Care Center.

Karen Ruth Tucker 1943-2017
October 09, 1943 - November 17, 2017
Karen Ruth Tucker, 74, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday,
November 17, 2017 at Fieldcrest Care Center in Hayfield, Minnesota.
Karen was born October 9, 1943 in Hayfield, Minnesota to Paul and Ruth
(Beck) Tucker. She graduated from Hayfield High School in 1961 and she
worked in the Grocery Products Accounting Department at Hormel Foods
until her retirement.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Austin.
Karen loved to do crossword puzzles and before her arthritis got so
bad, she loved to knit, cross-stitch, do ceramics and up until her death,
she was an ace scrabble player with her friend, Karen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Ruth Tucker; brothers,
Ronnie Tucker and Jerry Tucker; brothers-in-law, Dick Chapman and Jack
Brennan.
Karen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Trey and Amy Tucker,
Hayfield, MN; grandson, Samuel Tucker; brothers, Glenn Tucker, Rock Springs,
WY, Bill Tucker, Two Harbors, MN, and David (Susie) Tucker, Austin, MN;
sisters, Pearl Brennan, Hayfield, MN, Helen Chapman, Hayfield, MN,
Marlys (Wayne) Harvey, Blooming Prairie, MN, and Pat (Bob) Carlin,
Mounds View, MN; many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to the
staff at Fieldcrest for the care and friendship they gave Karen and her
entire family.

Fern Helen (Frondal) Wangen 1924-2017
Funeral services for Fern Wangen will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday,
November 25, 2017, at Oakland Lutheran Church, 22042 850th Ave., rural
Albert Lea, Minnesota. The Rev. Waldemar Gies will officiate. Visitation
will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24 at Bonnerup Funeral Service
in Albert Lea. Interment will be in Oakland Lutheran Cemetery.
Fern Helen (Frondal) Wangen, 93, was born October 15, 1924, to Knut and
Ella (Hove) Frondal in Moscow Township in Freeborn County, Minnesota. She
died on November 15, 2017, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin, Minnesota.
Fern was baptized, confirmed, and married at the Oakland Lutheran
Church, Albert Lea. She attended rural Lee School, Hollandale School,
and was a 1942 graduate of the Albert Lea High School. She worked at
the Land O' Lakes egg plant and as a cashier at the Oakland, Lyle and
Rose Creek State Banks before her marriage to Walter.
Fern married Walter S. Wangen on Oct. 6, 1946. They raised their five
children, Arden, Gary, Warren, Dale, and Mary, on a dairy farm near Oakland,
Minnesota. Fern was a busy homemaker, cooking, baking, canning and freezing
fruits and vegetables that Walter raised in his garden. She enjoyed quilting
and presented a quilt to each grandchild on their confirmation day. She
loved to dance and spent many hours playing cards. Fern and Walter
enjoyed dressing in their traditional Norwegian Bunad (costume). Fern
loved making Norwegian goodies like krumkake, lefse, and many other
Norwegian foods. Fern and Walter felt it was very important for their
grandchildren and great-grandchildren to learn how to make lefse. The
family enjoys getting together every year to continue this tradition.
Fern and Walter enjoyed traveling, especially the five trips to Norway
where they met many relatives and did research for publishing five family
genealogy books.
Fern was an active member of the Oakland Lutheran Ladies Aid, was
president, vice president, and financial secretary of the Oakland Church
Council. She was a teacher and superintendent of the Oakland Sunday school.
Fern also served as president, vice president, and social director of the
Sons of Norway in Albert Lea.
Fern and Walter lived on the farm for 63 years. After Walter's death,
Fern moved to The Cedars of Austin.
Fern is survived by her sons, Arden (Kleone) Wangen of Albert Lea,
Gary Wangen of Hayward, Minnesota, and Warren (Vilita) Wangen of Canyon
Country, California; daughter-in-law, Brenda Wangen (Tony Klapperick) of
Albert Lea; daughter, Mary (David) Knurek of New Smyrna Beach, Florida;
brother, Stanley Frondal of Albert Lea; and sisters-in-law, Alice Brunmeier
Lee of Rochester, Michigan, and Irene Johnson of Ellendale, Minnesota. She
was blessed with 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and many nieces
and nephews.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her parents, Knut and
Ella (Hove) Frondal; son, Dale Wangen; great-granddaughter, Kaylee Wangen;
mother and father-in-law, Martin and Betsy (Slinde) Wangen; brother, Arnold
Frondal; sister and brother-in-law, Adeline and Mike Cochlin; sister-in-law,
Arlene Frondal; brothers-in-law, Ivan Wangen, Vern Brunmeier, Merrill Lee,
and Norman Johnson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arnold 'Bud' and Janice
Wangen; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Berline and Ernest Johnson.
The family wishes to extend their most sincere thanks to the staff of
The Cedars, Mayo Clinic Health System, St. Mark's Lutheran Home and Mayo
Hospice, all of Austin; and for the kindness and respect shown to Fern and

John Francis Rollins 1927-2017
John F. Rollins, 90, of Faribault, Minnesota, passed away suddenly
with his family by his side on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017.
John Francis Rollins was born on July 24, 1927, in Austin, Minnesota,
to Joseph Vincent and Dora Louise (Wachsmann) Rollins. He attended St.
Augustine High School and graduated with the class in 1945. After high
school John served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 -1948. John then went on
to attend St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas, where he graduated
in 1953. During this time John entered the novitiate in Galesville,
Wisconsin, which is where he made his first vows in 1950.
Thereafter he was a teaching brother in St. Louis, Missouri. During this
time is when he made his perpetual vows. John then went on to study
philosophy and theology at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. In
1964 he was ordained into the priesthood by His Excellency Francois
Charrierre, Bishop of Lausanne, Geneva and Fribourg.
In 1969 after John left the priesthood, he married Gina S. Quinlan
in Oakland, California. For many years John and Gina lived on a small
ranch in Asotin, Washington, where they kept horses, including one
Arabian. They also cared for cattle, two dogs and a cat. John and Gina
both worked for the Clarkston School District until retirement. John was
a counselor and Gina was a teacher. From 1995-2005, John, Gina, and their
cat lived in an RV, splitting their time between Ham Lake, Wisconsin, and
traveling throughout the western states.
Through their travels, John and Gina were able to experience life and
their love of nature to its fullest. In 2005, they settled down in Green
Bay, Wisconsin. After Gina's passing in 2007, John moved to Faribault to
be closer to family. John moved in with his niece, Lu (Larson) Olson, who
cared for him until she could no longer. He then moved in with his
great-niece, Angela (Olson) Winkelman and her family. John lived with
them in Faribault for the remainder of his life.
While John lived in Faribault he enjoyed going for walks to Central Park,
playing cards and watching sports on TV. John was often found reading a
novel, while the family cat and dog laid closely by. He was also known
to never turn down a hot fudge sundae from the Dairy Queen.
He is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gina; his parents, Joseph and
Dora; his siblings, Louise, William, Catherine, Robert, and Joseph;
and his niece, Lu Olson.
At John's request, no services are to be held.

James Earl Krulish 1951-2017
March 07, 1951 - November 17, 2017
James E. Krulish, 66, of Lyle, Minnesota, passed away early Friday
morning on November 17th, 2017.
James was born in Austin, Minnesota March 7, 1951. He graduated from
Austin High School and attended Pipestone Meat Cutting School in Pipestone,
Minnesota. James was employed by Hormel Foods in Austin, Minnesota for 44
years. He was a fire arms safety instructor for over 30 years and also
served on the Mower County Mounted Posse for several years. Throughout
his life, James enjoyed his love of Star Trek, hunting, fishing, Olde
Time country western music, western movies and the art of conversation.
He was preceded in death by father, Frank L. Krulish; mother, Eva
Belle Adair (Earl) Krulish; grandfather, Kenneth Earl; grandmother,
Agnes (James) Earl; sister, Becky (Krulish) Coates; angel sons, Frank
James & Jesse James Krulish; niece, Jessica Overby; and godson, Bryan
(BT) Peck.
Pallbearers will be Jack Fohrman, Michael Peck, Sean Dulohery, Ryan
Njos, Jeremy Peck, and William Kruger
Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Krulish, Jameson Krulish, and Ellie
Krulish
James is survived by his wife: Yvonne (Fohrman) Krulish; son: James
E. (Erin) Krulish II; daughter: Kimberlee Krulish; grandson: Jameson
Krulish; granddaughter: Ellie Krulish; brothers: Randy Krulish; and Bob
(Dar) Krulish; sister: Linda (Randy) Overby; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews
and cousins.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 25th at
St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Thomas Loomis officiating.
Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00
PM and at the church on Saturday one hour before the service. Private
family interment will be at the family farm at a later date.

Luella "Lorraine" (Hansen) Bartz 1921-2017
July 03, 1921 - November 17, 2017
Lorraine Bartz, 96 of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Cedars of Austin.
Luella Lorraine Hansen was born July 3, 1921 on the family farm in Austin Township, the daughter of Fred and Edna (Hanson) Hansen. She would walk back and forth to the Enterprise County School through the 8th grade and then attended the Austin High School, graduating in 1939. Lorraine had polished her secretarial skills and found work in the Mower County Courthouse for two years before venturing to San Francisco, California with a girlfriend to work.
Having been “courted” by mail, Sgt. HH Bartz convinced Lorraine to leave her work in San Francisco to join him in Denver. They were engaged on Valentine's Day 1944 and married on June 19th that year. They returned to Minnesota where Bartz worked for Jostens in Owatonna before being transferred to Hannibal, Missouri and later to St. Louis, Missouri, and then back to Owatonna. They had an opportunity to own a farm in the Austin area, so the family moved in March of 1958. Lorraine returned to secretarial work at the Austin YMCA in January 1968, where she worked for 26 years.
Over the years, Lorraine has remained an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Helmer in 1996; son, Paul Bartz; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Archie O Steen; son-in-law, David Peterson and granddaughter, Melissa Peterson.
Lorraine is survived by her children, Ralph and Karen Sundal Bartz, Austin, MN, Lori Bartz, Austin, MN, Jerry Bartz, Reno, NV; Grandchildren, Kyle and Katie Bartz, Storm Lake, IA, Amy and Aaron Erks, Pipestone, MN, Cole and Tabby Bartz, Sioux Falls, SD, Emily Peterson, Tomah, WI; nine great grandchildren with another due in 2018.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM on December 16th at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin with the Reverend Karen Behling officiating. Obituary for Roseanita Masyga
Roseanita Masyga, age 90, of Austin, died Friday, November 17, 2017 at
Edenbrook of Rochester.
Roseanita was born October 15, 1927 in Winona, Minnesota to Peter and
Ruth (McAllister) Anderson. She attended Jefferson and Cathedral schools
in Winona, and later Riverland in Austin, and beauty school in Mankato.
Roseanita worked at the Dimestore in Winona when she was 17 years old for
38 cents an hour. She also worked at Land O Lakes checking eggs and plucking
chickens, and at a box factory in Winona. Roseanita was co-owner with her
sister at the Anderson Beauty Shop in Winona in 1949.
On May 6, 1950 she was united in marriage to Conrad Masyga at the
Cathedral in Winona. After their marriage, the couple moved to Austin.
Roseanita worked with the Queen of Angels church unit, baking, serving
and crafting for every wedding, funeral and bazaar. She enjoyed reading,
painting, singing, dancing, crafting and baking. She and Conrad volunteered
to help teach other adults to read for many years. Roseanita was a member
of Sons of Norway, a leader for Brownies, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, and
volunteered with 4-H. She also worked as a home health aide.
Survivors include her children, Michael (Rena Marlene) Masyga, Prescott,
WI, Dawn (Robby) Rogers, Austin, MN, Patrick (Denise) Masyga, Bloomington,
MN, Kristine (Barry) Heine, Albert Lea, MN; six grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeraldine Werner, Austin, MN; and many nieces
and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Conrad Masyga; her granddaughter,
Rachel “Shelly” Pratt.
Funeral services will be held 11 am on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at
Mayer Funeral Home with Brandon Masyga officiating. There will be a 5 pm
CCW rosary on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 5-7
pm and also one hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Saturday.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

William "Bill" Sheely 1936-2017
William "Bill" Sheely 81, of Dover, Pennsylvania, and formerly of
Austin, Minnesota, and who operated the Beaver Trails Campground for
over 30 years, passed away November 17, 2017, in Florida, where he had
spent the past eight winters.
He was born June 16, 1936, in Ollie, Iowa, and attended various schools
in both Iowa and Minnesota in his youth. He graduated from Austin High
School. Later, he took vo-tech classes in carpentry, agriculture, and
sheet metal. He was married to Carol Mielke in 1958.
Bill loved to tell people he was born in a log cabin. After his family
moved to the Austin area he lived on the family farm, east of Austin. Always
a farm boy at heart, he eventually bought the 214 acres he grew up on. He
loved farming and was for a time president of NFO in the area. He drove
school bus for Southland School District for over 15 years. For many years
he was a Boy Scout leader for Pack 124 in Austin.
Because he loved the outdoors and was good with his hands he built Beaver
Trails Campground, even cutting the trees down with help of his son Chuck
— planing and nailing each board. He and Carol ran the park for 31 years,
selling it in 2007. After traveling for two and a half years, they moved
to Dover to be near their daughter, Sandra, while spending winters in
Florida where grandson Matt went to college.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl Davis Sheely and C. Arthur
Sheely; brother and sister-in-law, LaVerne and Cathy Sheely; brother Lowell;
and brother-in-laws Lester Foss and Dwayne Bernard.
Survivors include one son, Charles, of Mora, Minnesota; one daughter,
Sandra, Dover; one grandson, Matthew Wentz, Detroit, Michigan; brother
Larry (Karen), Austin; sister-in-law, Wilma Sheely; sisters, Eloise Foss,
Eleanor Johnson and Carolyn Bernard; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Allen Dean Rieken 1957-2017
Allen Rieken, 60, of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, passed away peacefully
Thursday, November. 16, 2017, at his home with his family by his side,
after a courageous battle with cancer.
A memorial service for Allen Rieken will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday,
November 26, 2017, at Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow with the Rev.
Marie Anderson officiating. Burial will be at the Grand Meadow Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 26, 2017
at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow.
Allen Dean Rieken was born July 1, 1957, in Austin, Minnesota, the son
of Melvin and Laura (Schmidt) Rieken. He grew up in Grand Meadow. On Nov.
3, 1979, Allen was united in marriage to Brenda Alden in Austin; they
enjoyed 38 wonderful years together. Allen spent many years as an
over-the-road truck driver. He and his son, Erin, spent countless hours
together in the garage. When he wasn't in the garage he would pass the
time mowing and snow-blowing. Allen loved spending time with his dogs
Rusty, Rocky, and Windsor.
Allen is survived by his wife, Brenda of Grand Meadow; one son, Erin
Rieken of Lyle, Minnesota; two brothers, Larry Harvey of Lake City,
Minnesota, and Jim Rieken of Stewartville, Minnesota; two sisters,
Betty Harvey of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Marilyn Radloff of Grand
Meadow; and many nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws, and sister-in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Claire and
Kevin.
The family would like to thank the staff at Austin Mayo Hospice for the
care they provided Allen over the last few weeks.

Geraldine Ann (Halloran) Beckel 1936-2017
Geraldine A. Beckel, 80, of Austin, Minnesota, and Chatfield, Minnesota,
died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.
Geraldine Ann Halloran was born Dec. 14, 1936, in Chatfield, the daughter
of Gerald and Loretta (Dempsey) Halloran. She received her degree in
education from Clark College in Dubuque, Iowa, and taught at Queen of
Angels Catholic School in Austin.
On June 7, 1958, Geri was united in marriage to Dale Allen Beckel at
St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chatfield. The couple raised six children.
Dale passed away in 2009.
Geri was a lifelong member of Queen of Angels Parish. She worked at
the Joseph Company and enjoyed all the people she came in contact with.
The biggest joy of her life was her grandkids. Geri loved family and
family gatherings. Huge Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations were
very special times. Other favorite pastimes included playing cards,
especially 500 and Bridge. She loved cross-stitch and doing puzzles,
and would challenge anyone to games like Scrabble, usually beating them.
Geri had the gift of infinite patience. She was always kind, caring and
loving. She wished the best for her family and made sure everyone felt
equally important. Geri will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Kathy (Doug) Hafften of Princeton,
Minnesota, Robert (Jean) Beckel of Savage, Minnesota, Gregory (Gretchen)
Beckel of Austin, Mark (Peggy Callahan) Beckel of Hinckley, Minnesota,
Kevin (Denise) Beckel of Savage, Minnesota, and Kellie (Andrew) Roetter
of Winona, Minnesota; grandchildren, David (Annie) Porttiin, Evan (Nikki)
Porttiin, Jacob Beckel, Lisa (Drew) Rhoda, Joe Hafften, Shannon Beckel,
Emily Beckel, Tori Beckel, Kayla Beckel, Megan Beckel, Erik Beckel, Ashley
Roetter; great-grandchildren Lily, Kylie, Logan, and Audrina; her sister,
Karen (Terry) Huckstadt of Chatfield; many nieces and nephews and other

Geri was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Loretta Halloran;
her husband, Dale Beckel; her sister, Helen Wheeler; and her brother and
sister-in-law, John and Marty Halloran; grandson, Kyle Beckel; and Baby
Roetter.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday,
Nov. 25, 2017, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin with Father
Dale Tupper and Father Raul Silva concelebrating. Visitation will be held
from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and
one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. There will be
a Rosary at the Worlein Chapel at 6:30 P.M. on Friday. Interment will
be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin. In lieu of flowers memorials may be
directed to the Life Enrichment Program at Chosen Valley Care Center

Shirley Jane Agnew Moore, 84 of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, November
22, 2017 at the Cedars of Austin.
Shirley was born April 9, 1933 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada,
to Dr. Alec M. and Pauline (Creelman) Agnew. She graduated from York House
School, Vancouver, B.C. in 1951 and Fenton Secretarial School, Vancouver
B.C. in 1952. Shirley married George G. Moore, March 11, 1953 in Pasadena,
California.
She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church since January 4,
1968 where she served as a Deacon, Elder and Clerk of Session.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. A.M. Agnew.
Shirley is survived by her husband, George G. Moore of Austin; son, The
Rev. Michael A. Moore and wife, Denise of Estes Park, CO; grandson, Alec
Preston Moore of Chicago, IL; sister, Pauline Hall, West Vancouver, B.C.
Canada.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, November 28th at
Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Michael Olmsted officiating.

Betty Ann (King) Keller 1922-2017
March 29, 1922 - November 24, 2017
Betty Ann Keller, 95 of Austin, Minnesota, went home to be with her Lord
and Savior on Friday, November 24, 2017, at St. Mark's Memory Care in Austin.
Betty was born to Arthur Edward and Abbie (Schroeder) King on March
29, 1922. She graduated from Austin High School in 1939. She was employed
by the Treasurer's office in the Mower County Court House until 1947, when
she married Howard Keller after his return home from military service in WWII.
They had a son, Art, and a daughter, Dianne.
In 1963, Betty returned to work as a bank teller until her retirement.
Together, Betty and Howard shared an active life in the community and the
Baptist Church, finding joy in serving others. Betty will be remembered
for her ready-smile and ever-present kind spirit, and for dedicating her
life to her family and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Howard.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Art Keller (Brad); her daughter,
Dianne Helfritz (Keith); her granddaughter, Amy Helfritz; and her loving
family and friends.
The family would like to acknowledge Nancy Johnson for her years of
professional and loving care to our mother.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 1st
at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Reverend Catherine Lemons officiating.

Obituary for Cheryl Leola Kruckeberg
Cheryl “Sherry” Kruckeberg, age 64, of Blooming Prairie, died Sunday
November 19, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Cheryl was born March 6, 1953 in New Prague. Minnesota, to Virgil and
Evelyn (Kriha) Beinhorn. At age 10, her family moved to Blooming Prairie.
Cheryl graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1971.
On November 20, 1971, Cheryl married her high school sweetheart, Kevin
Kruckeberg. They built a life together on a farm north of Blooming Prairie
and raised two kids, crops, elk, deer, various exotic birds and animals.
Throughout her lifetime, she also worked at her parent's bakery in Blooming
Prairie, Equity Bank in Claremont and Steele County Recorder's Office in
Owatonna.
Above all things, Cheryl valued Faith, Family and Friends. She gave the
best hugs and was always there for us. Her greatest treasures were her
grandkids: Fisher & Bennett Kruckeberg and Josie and Allie Finne. She left
us with strong values and many wonderful memories.
Survivors include her son Kasey and Marsha Kruckeberg of Rochester, MN;
daughter Kerry and Chris Finne of Welch, MN; sister Ginny and Bill Burgart
of Minnetonka, MN; brother Roger and Cindy Beinhorn of Blooming Prairie,
MN; sister Lynn and Duane Hanson of Blooming Prairie, MN; four grandchildren
and many nieces, nephews and friends whom she held dear.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandson Jacob
Finne, sisters in law Marcia Camerer and Carol Kruckeberg and brothers in
law Tom Camerer and Ralph Kruckeberg.
A memorial service will be held 2 pm on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at
Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church with Pastor Lindsey Stolen officiating.
Friends may call from 4-7 pm on Monday November 27, at Red Oak Grove

Betty (Peters, Hofland) McClelland 1948-2017
Betty McClelland passed away Friday, November 24, 2017, at the Oldorf
Hospice House of Mercy from pancreatic cancer and complications of a stroke.
She was born February 1, 1948 to George and Marie Peters, the 5th of six
children in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. She graduated from St. Ansgar High and married
James Hofland in 1966. To that union two children were born, Sheila and
Christopher. They later divorced.
On September 26, 1981 she married Vaughn McClelland. She was employed
over the years at Hupp Electric Motors, Iowa Precision, Discovery Living,
To the rescue, USPS and owned and operated with her husband the Hometown
Restaurant in Coggon for 9 years. In retirement, she was active and a
leader at the Faith Mission Shop in Coggon as well as the Coggon
Comforters. She was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband,
Vaughn; daughter, Sheila (Steve) Yates; son, Christopher (Kristin) Hofland;
stepson Kenneth McClelland; stepson Nathan (April) McClelland; two brothers
and three sisters; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and by many
nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon on Wednesday,
November 29. Visitation at 4 PM and services to follow conducted by Pastor
Darcy Metcalfe. Arrangements by Iowa Cremation. In lieu of flowers a
donation to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
Interment will follow in Woodbury Cemetery, rural Lyle.

Dennis Wesley Crowder 1942-2017
Dennis W. Crowder, age 75 of rural Austin, Minnesota died Saturday morning, November 25, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System – Austin.
Dennis Wesley Crowder was born November 12, 1942, in Austin, Minnesota the son of Wesley Edward and Waunita Helen (Steinbarger) Crowder. He received his education in Austin, Minnesota. On January 27, 1968, he was united in married to Julie Ahn Johnson in Mason City, Iowa.
Dennis worked for Carney Auto Salvage for over thirty-three years, before working at J. C. Hormel Company until 1985. He later worked for Southern Minnesota Sales in Blooming Prairie before becoming an independent dealer for used autos, working until his health forced him to quit.
He enjoyed working in his yard and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Christopher and Kelsey, his great grand-niece and nephew, Josie and Jameson and his cousin Harry Hansen. He was a member of Moscow Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Julie Crowder of rural Austin, Minnesota; one son, Timothy Crowder of Albert Lea; one daughter, Julayne Ashley of Austin; two grandchildren, Christopher Ashley and Kelsey Krebsbach; a brother, Rick (Trudy) Heimermann of Austin; a sister, Vicky (Roger) Christiansen of Austin; his mother-in-law, Hazel Johnson of Austin and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son in infancy.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Moscow Lutheran Church, rural Oakland, Minnesota with Pastor Waldemar Gies, officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will follow the service in Moscow Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Marvin E. Winsky 1935-2017
Marvin E. Winsky, age 82, of Austin, Minnesota passed away peacefully
Friday evening, November 24, 2017 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.
He was born on June 21, 1935 in Minnesota. Marvin was united in marriage
to Patricia Love on August, 21, 1978 in Dixon, Illinois. Marvin spent most
of his life farming in the Brownsdale and Sargeant area. He enjoyed deer
hunting, fishing and playing cards.
He is survived by his son Thomas (Jennifer) Winsky of Sargeant, Minnesota;
two daughters, Teri (Stacy) Truax of Austin, Minnesota, and Kathy Winsky of
Rochester, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives
and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Pat and a sister, Beatrice Jacob.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28,
2017 at the Greenwood Cemetery, Brownsdale, MN. Memorials to donor's

Vonda Lou (Edge) Kincannon 1939-2017

Vonda Kincannon, age 78, of Austin, Minnesota passed away Wednesday,
Nov. 22, 2017, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, surrounded
by her loving family.
Vonda Lou Edge was born July 30, 1939, in Grant County, Wisconsin,
to Elton and Inga Edge. She grew up on a dairy farm and graduated from
Fennimore High School in 1957. She married her loving husband of 58
years, Ray Kincannon, on March 30, 1959. She was a stay-at-home
mother, dedicated to raising their five children. Vonda was also
a dedicated member of the local Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses
and her faith was the foundation of her life and her spiritual
family was very important to her.
She very much enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends.
She loved being a grandma. She loved to travel. She was an amazing cook
and she made really good lefse. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and caring
for flowers and plants. She also enjoyed playing freecell on her ipad.
Vonda is survived by her husband Ray Kincannon of Austin. She is
also survived by her children: Diane (Kurt) Baumgartner of Austin,
Steve Kincannon of Charles City, Iowa, Kristine (Dan) Jorgenson of
Austin, Kari Kincannon of Owatonna, Minnesota; nine grandchildren
and five great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her siblings June (Richard) Johnson of
Platteville, Wisconsin, Barbara Lomas of Lancaster, Wisconsin, Max
(Mary) Edge of Stitzer, Wisconsin and Dana Gempler of Platteville,
Wisconsin, as well many nieces and nephews.
Vonda was preceded in death by her parents, Elton and Inga Edge
and her oldest son, Bryon Kincannon.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec.
2, 2017, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2115 5th Ave
SE, Austin, MN. Visitation with the family will be held after the
memorial service at the Ruby Rupner Room at the Hormel Nature Center
in Austin.

Viola L. (DeBoer) Stahl, age 101, of Austin, Minnesota, passed
away Saturday, November 25, 2017, at Sacred Heart Care Center.
Viola was born on September 25, 1916 in Pleasant Valley Township –
Dexter, Minnesota, to Henry and Helen (Bryza) DeBoer. She was united
in marriage to Fred J. Stahl on October 28, 1935, at the Methodist
Parsonage in Spring Valley, Minnesota.
Viola enjoyed many activities including dancing, cards, sewing,
crocheting, knitting, quilting and enjoyed time with family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, five
brothers and one grandson.
Viola is survived by her daughter, Geraldine (Paul) Hernandez of
Houston, TX; sons, Calvin (Linda) Stahl of San Antonio, TX, Marvin
(Susan) Stahl of Owatonna, MN, Leslie (Cynthia) Stahl of Griffin, GA,
Daniel (Ramona) Stahl, Adelanto, CA; 14 grandchildren, many
great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

John Morrison 1947-2017
November 01, 1947 - November 26, 2017
John Morrison of Austin, Minnesota died peacefully on Sunday, November
26, 2017 surrounded by his family.
John was born in Osage, Iowa to Mitchell and Maxine (Stockdale)
Morrison on November 1, 1947. He worked for Hormel Foods for 34 years
and concurrently for the Local 9 union as Business Agent for 17 years.
After retiring from Hormel, he was a realtor for Fuhrman Real Estate until
he became ill. He married Mary Geannakouri on April 12, 1969. They lived in
Austin and raised two children. John was always proud of his family.
John had a wide range of interests and hobbies. In high school, he
wrestled and managed the varsity baseball team. As an adult he played,
coached, and refereed hockey. One of his proudest achievements was
officiating World Junior Hockey Tournaments in 1981 (Germany) and
1982 (Canada). He also loved hunting, trap-shooting, golf, broomball,
softball, and was a great pool player. He enjoyed fly fishing for trout
in southeastern Minnesota and especially looked forward to an annual fall
fishing trip to Manitoba with family and friends. He loved bird watching
and holds the record for the most species recorded in Mower County at
267. He was a very good all-around photographer but especially loved
taking pictures of birds.
John was very outgoing and had a great sense of humor. He was a wonderful
friend and was always willing to help anyone in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mitchell and Maxine Morrison;
brother, Michael; and brothers-in-law, Reed Avram and Ron Thompson.
John is survived by his wife: Mary Morrison, Austin, MN; sons: Jeff
(Amy) Morrison, Austin, MN; Jamie (Laura) Morrison, Austin, MN;
grandchildren: Cade, Benjamin, and Brianna; brother: Mitch (Connie)
Morrison; sisters: Sharon Avram; Janice (Dean) Pike; Michelle (Cory)
Arjes; sister-in-law: Patty Morrison; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 3rd at
the Holiday Inn. Visitation will be for one hour before the service.

Loriene Laverne (Hanson) Brandt 1923-2017
April 09, 1923 - November 27, 2017
Loriene L. Brandt, 94 of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, November 27,
2017 at the Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.
Loriene Laverne Hanson was born April 9, 1923 at Fertile, Minnesota,
the daughter of Engvald and Anna (Nielson) Hanson. She grew up in Austin
and graduated from Austin High School. Loriene married Glenn M. Brandt
on November 8, 1942 at the First United Methodist Church in Austin. She
worked as a cook with the Austin Public School System, working mainly at
Banfield and Southgate Schools.
Loriene was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church.
She was active in UMW and worked at the annual Chicken and Biscuit dinner
and bazaar. She loved to bake and decorate cakes. She made wedding cakes
for many area brides over the years. She also did ceramics, but her love
of cooking and baking had her preparing and hosting the family holidays.
The Brandts enjoyed traveling and would spend one week fishing and another
traveling with the family to other states. After retirement Glenn and
Loriene would spend a month or so in Arizona during the winter.
Loriene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Glenn; infant son,
Steven Brandt; sisters, Blanche Zirath, Mary Arlene Lysne, and Marilyn
Anderson; brothers, Virgil Tipton, Marvin Tipton and Wallace Hanson.
She is survived by her children, Patricia (Fred) Ekrem, Eau Claire, WI,
Glenda Brandt, St. Louis Park, MN, Brian Brandt, Austin, MN, Lynette (Mike)
Bartesch, Austin, MN; grandchildren, David (Maggie) Ekrem, Daniel (Lisa)
Ekrem, Johanna Ekrem, Janelle (David) Lewison, Andrea (Chris) Brown, Katy
(Brandon) Parr; nine great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Robert Myhre,
Belle Vista, AR; sister-in-law, Peg Johnson, Tulsa, OK; Nieces and Nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 30
at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dennis Tamke
officiating. Interment will be at Cedar City Cemetery. Visitation
will be at the church Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the time

Bernard Joseph McGee 1920-2017

Obituary for Bernard Joseph McGee
Bernard Joseph McGee, age 97, of Austin, Minnesota, died at his home,
Saturday, November 25, 2017.
Bernie was born August 18, 1920, in Fremont Township, Winneshiek County,
Iowa. He was the youngest of nine siblings. During the Great Depression
Bernie joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, where he earned $30 a month
building dams, bridges and working in rock quarries. After the CCC, he
traveled throughout Iowa building barns for work. In July of 1942, he
enlisted in the US Navy. He served in combat as a Gunners Mate 2ND class
on P.T. Boat 347, in the South Pacific during World War II.
On May 6, 1947 he was united in marriage to Irene Cummings in Cresco,
Iowa. The couple moved to Austin, MN in 1948, where they raised four
children. Bernie was a Local 1382 Union Carpenter for more than 70 years.
Among many projects, he was involved in the building of the new Hormel
plant, the Twin Towers, and he worked on several Main Street buildings.
After a full day of work, Bernie would work as a handyman.
Bernie was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, The VFW, The
Eagles Club, and The American Legion. He was always physically active. He
was a hard worker and always stayed busy. When he was not working, he loved
fishing at Lake Vermillion. He also had a large garden in his backyard every
summer. Bernie enjoyed wood working in his garage, he loved riding his bike,
and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Irene McGee, Austin, MN; son, James (Sheri)
McGee, Austin, MN; daughter Susan Bothun, Austin, MN; daughter Ann McGee,
Austin, MN; daughter Mary Huemann, Albert Lea, MN; six grandchildren,
Carmen Weber, Skot McGee, Mike Merten, Kelly Walton, Brad Bothun, and
Lindsey Haney; along with twelve great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; eight siblings, Leo, Emmett,
Paul, and Daniel McGee, Lucille Peterson, Ester Roberts, Rosella Skogerboe,
and Vera Ulwelling,; sons in law, Peter Merten and Vaughn Bothun.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday December 1, 2017,
at Mayer Funeral Home with Father Jim Steffes officiating, Friends may
call from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at the Funeral Home.
Burial of Bernard's ashes will be at later date when he will be united
with the love of his life, Irene at Calvary Cemetery.

Obituary for Adrian Leo Blake
Adrian L. Blake, 89, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday November
27, 2017 at St. Mark's Nursing Home.
Adrian was born in Stacyville, Iowa, to William and Gertrude
(Hackenmiller) Blake. He graduated from Visitation High School in
Stacyville and briefly attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.
Adrian joined the US Army in 1948 and was recalled to active duty in
1950. He was sent to Korea to a reconnaissance unit. The unit evacuated
from Korea December 24, 1950. His discharge was September 1951, as Sgt
1st Class.
Adrian worked for the Post Office as a clerk and mail carrier in Dallas,
Texas, Minneapolis, and Austin, Minnesota retiring after 32 years.
In 1952 he married Dixie Wentzel and later divorced. In February 1974
Adrian married Jeanne (Simon) Ethen.
Adrian is survived by his wife Jeanne Blake, his sons Dave(Shirley)
La Palma, CA, Gary (Judy) Summit Hill, PA, Keith (Merilee) Oakland, MN,
Leonard (Deborah) Boscobel, WI, Diana (Kevin) Sutter Apple Valley MN,
Joanne (Phillip) Miller Austin, MN, Rebecca Driscoll, Rosemount, MN;
27 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; stepchildren Todd (Lucinda)

A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated Saturday December 2, 2017 11:30 am at

Darwin G. Bawek 1945-2017
Darwin G. Bawek, 71, of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, November
30, 2017, at his home.
He was born Dec. 3, 1945, in Austin, the son of Gilbert and Viva
(Haney) Bawek. Darwin graduated from Pacelli High School in 1963 and
served his country in the U.S. Navy for three years in Vietnam. He
received an honorable discharge in December 1966. On Sept. 2, 1967,
Darwin was united in marriage to Maureen O’Brien at Queen of Angels
Catholic Parish in Austin. The couple raised three children.
He belonged to St. Augustine Church in Austin, as well as the
American Legion. Darwin worked for Hormel Foods Corporation before
returning to school at the Albert Lea Vocational-Technical Institute
from 1987-1988, where he graduated with high honors from the heating
and refrigeration program.
After the Hormel strike in 1985, he returned to work there and retired
after 44 years. Darwin led an active life and spent much leisure time
hiking, golfing, biking, and taking walks. He loved collecting and
restoring cars and spending time near the ocean and the mountains.
He and Maureen enjoyed traveling around the U.S. during their
retirement, before her death in 2015. Darwin loved trying out many
barbecue restaurants throughout his travels. More than anything, he
loved the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren who
were his greatest joy.
Darwin will be dearly missed by his entire family and many friends.
Survivors include his children, Scott (Tamara) Bawek of San Diego,
California, Michelle “Mickey” (Dwight) Smith of Austin, and Jeff Bawek
(Bridget Schmidt), also of Austin; nine grandchildren, Jake and Jesse
Smith, Jared Mauer, Olivia, Cassidy, Noah, and Alec Bawek, Cooper and
Payton Schmidt Bawek; one great-grandson, Brantley; and one sister,
LaVonne (Donald) Dokken of Austin.
Darwin was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Viva Bawek;
his wife, Maureen Bawek; two sisters, Beverly Dahlback and Marlene Jensen;
and two siblings, brother and a sister in infancy.
A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017,
at Calvary Cemetery with Father James Steffes officiating. Military honors
will be presented by American Legion Post 91. Memorials can be directed to
St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or recipient of donor’s choice.

Shirley (Hanson) Jan 1931-2017
Shirley Jan, 86, passed away on Dec. 1, 2017, from natural causes after
a courageous multi-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease, at the Annapolitan
Assisted Living Center in Annapolis, Maryland.
She was born to Corrie and Ruth Bagley Hanson on May 9, 1931, in
Austin, Minnesota. She graduated from high school in 1949, and took a
one-year x-ray technician training at Minneapolis General Hospital in
Minneapolis, Minnesota. She received her certified chiropractic assistant
training at Johns-Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. On Sept.
9, 1951, she married Lloyd V. Jan in Austin.
After spending a year as an x-ray technician at Anchor Hospital in
St. Paul, Minnesota, Shirley, the mother of five and wife of a U.S. Army
Green Beret, traveled the globe for 20 years, living at numerous Army
bases across the U.S., France and Japan.
She worked as a certified chiropractic assistant in Severna Park,
Maryland, for nearly a decade, and completed her career as a medical
record transcriptionist in Annapolis.
She enjoyed cooking, quilting, needlepoint and sewing of all kinds,
church choir, scenery and costume design for the Colonial Players of
Annapolis, and traveling the world.
Shirley is lovingly remembered by daughters Lisa Jan of McHenry, Maryland,
and MaryEllen Seehafer (Erich) of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia; son, Eric
Jan (Deborah) of Annapolis; grandchildren, Bryan Jan, Lauren Hill, Reade
Harbitter, Evin Harbitter, Roxanne Harbitter, 1st Lt. Ryan Jan, USAF,
Ensign Kaitlyn Jan, USN, and Kelly Jan; five great-grandchildren;
sister, Charlotte Braaten of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota; and her
brother, Raeburn Hanson (Patricia) of Waltham, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd V. Jan, MAJ USA of
Severna Park; her son, Kolin, CAPT USN of Ridgeway, West Virginia;
daughter, Karen R. Jan of West Palm Beach, Florida; and her granddaughter,
Jessica Hill of Lorton, Virginia.
Services will be held in May 2018 in Austin.

Terry Charles Hollerud 1948-2017
Terry Charles Hollerud, 69, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, entered
eternal life on Nov. 28, 2017.
He was born July 18, 1948, in Austin, Minnesota, son of Leonard J.
Hollerud and Ruth L. Swain.
Terry grew up in Austin and attended elementary school there. In 1961
the family moved to Lyle, Minnesota, where Terry finished his early
education, graduating in the class of 1966. He enlisted in the U.S. Army
in 1967 and served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the First Calvary
Division. In 1970 his army service ended and he returned to live in
Albert Lea, Minnesota. He worked at the meatpacking plant, Wilson and
Co., and attended classes learning about refrigeration at the community
college. Furthering his education, he moved to the Twin Cities to attend
the University of Minnesota.
Terry met his wife, Mary Ellen Hansen, and they married on July 28,
1979. They were blessed with two children through adoption. The family
moved to Norwood Young America, Minnesota. Terry worked as a meat cutter
in Cologne, Minnesota, before retiring.
Terry enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and watching Minnesota Golden
Gophers sports teams, professional football and baseball. His favorite
baseball team was the Chicago Cubs; he made trips to Chicago to watch
them play at Wrigley Field.
Terry supported veterans as a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
He was a strong advocate for veterans and the VA Hospital.
He is survived by loving wife, Mary Ellen; daughter, Ann; son, John
(Dulce); grandchildren, Britney and J.T.; sisters, Linda Dupuis, Ruth Ann
(Glen) Miles and Mary (Ted) Langer; as well as many loving nieces, nephews,
relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Ruth; brother,
Ronald; and nephew, Jeffrey.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at Victory Lutheran
Church, 16200 Berger Drive, Eden Prairie, with a visitation beginning at 9 a.m.
Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Our family would like to express gratitude to the doctors, nurses and
staff assisting in his care at the VA Hospital. A special thank you to all
staff working in sections 1 Freedom Way, 3K Hospital and 1-D Dignity Lane.

Beverly L. (Swanson) Breitbarth 1927-2017
Beverly L. Breitbarth, 89, a resident of Austin, Minnesota, since 1948,
passed away on November 9, 2017, at St. Mark’s Memory Care in Austin.
Beverly was born on New Year’s Eve of 1927 in Fargo, North Dakota,
to Loren E. and Lydia C. (Moen) Swanson. Bev graduated from Trimont
High School, after which she worked as a telephone operator in the area.
Bev married the love of her life, Robert E. Breitbarth, on Sept.
14, 1947. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Austin, where they lived
their entire life together. Bob worked at Hormel Foods, while Bev was
employed as a sales clerk for Fantles where she also served as a fashion
buyer for both the store and at Leutholds.
She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church since 1952. Bev was
also an outgoing and caring Christian to everyone who knew her. She
delighted all in her supportive and nurturing ways, especially that of
her beloved family and friends.
Beverly is survived by her son, Bradly Breitbarth and his wife,
Susie Ager of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Tanya and her husband,
Steve Yankowiak of Claremont, Minnesota, Christina and her husband,
Phil Bogojevic of Hayfield, Minnesota, Lt. Lauren and her husband,
Lt. Kevin Isaak of Norfolk, Virginia, Megan and her husband, Lucas
Miller of Dallas, Nicholas Breitbarth and his partner, Jennifer Gonzalez
of Dallas, Ferrell Breitbarth of Dallas, Forrest Wilbur of Dallas, and
Ben Wilbur of New York, New York. Also left to cherish her memory are
her great-grandchildren, Rayelle Haase, Jordan Yankowiak, Conner
Breitbarth, Midshipman Piper Yankowiak, Hunter Yankowiak, Corbin
Kreuger, Marik Bogojevic, Paxton Bogojevic, Cameron Miller, Lily
Breitbarth, and Bradley Breitbarth; as well as beloved nephews and
nieces, including Jon and his wife, Jan Breitbarth of Cypress, California,
and her dear family friend, Jim Burmeister of Brownsdale, Minnesota.
Beverly was preceded in death by her son, Barry Breitbarth; and her
beloved husband of 61 years, Robert Breitbarth.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, at
Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Forbes officiating. A
visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Immediately
following the service, a luncheon will be served. A private family
interment will be at the Oakwood Cemetery where Beverly will be laid
next to her husband, Bob, and her son, Barry.

Kenneth F. Tuttle, 94, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died peacefully,
surrounded by his family, on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the Floyd
County Medical Center in Charles City, Iowa.
Ken was born November 18, 1923 in Riceville, Iowa, to Willie and Marion
(Haire) Tuttle. During high school, he was proud to have gone to State in
wrestling and in 1943, he graduated from Hampton High School. He went to
work at the Geo. A. Hormel Co. after graduation and he served in the U.S.
Airforce from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean War. Ken married the love of
his life, JoAnn John, on August 23, 1952 at the United Methodist Church
in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin. Ken and JoAnn returned to Austin where
he worked for the Geo. A. Hormel Co., retiring after 38 years.
Ken was an avid sportsman and looked forward to hunting and fishing
in North Dakota. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a proud
member of the Civil Air Patrol for 35 years and achieved the rank of Major,
commanding the Austin Post where he was involved in many search and rescue
efforts. He received his pilot’s license in 1971. He was also a member
of Crane Community Chapel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, JoAnn; grandson, Brian
Tuttle; sisters, Ila, Faith and Faye; brothers, Grant and Henry and twin
brother, Keith.
Ken is survived by his sons: Neil (Cathy) Tuttle, Orchard, Iowa, Wayne
(Lucy) Tuttle, Minot, ND, and Bradley (Lisa) Tuttle, Austin, MN; daughter:
LuAnn (Gary) Betcher, Stewartville, MN; grandchildren: Christopher (Danielle)

Keith E. Swenson Sr., 69 of Rose Creek, Minnesota, died at his home
on Friday, December 1, 2017.
Keith Edwin Swenson was born on May 20, 1948, in Austin, Minnesota to
Edwin and Gladys (Nielsen) Swenson. He married Alice Monson on June 17,
1966 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, MN, and together they raised
three children, Keith Jr., James and Deanette.
Keith was an apiarist (beekeeper) for 50 years and had his own auto
body business. He loved to spend time with family, fishing and learning
about history. He enjoyed getting to see new things, going up north and
to Belgium with Alice, going to the state fair and House on the Rock. Over
the years he had many pets and raised a variety of animals including mink,
chinchillas, peacocks, ducks and chickens. He was a compassionate man who
loved his family and had a love of nature, especially trees and animals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Gladys Swenson,
and two half-brothers, Leland Swenson and Daryl Nielsen.
Keith is survived by his wife, Alice Swenson, Rose Creek, MN; sons,
Keith (Laura) Swenson Jr., Zumbrota, MN and James (Jill) Swenson, Taopi,
MN; daughter, Deanette Swenson, Rose Creek, MN; eight grandchildren, Holly,
Marcy, JJ, Chelsey, Mitch, Kara, Jessie and Kadin; five great-grandchildren,
William, Oliver, Rachael, Sebastian and Audrey; siblings, Gary (Pat)
Swenson, Rose Creek, MN, Alan (Gwen) Swenson, Taopi, MN, Dean (Carmine)
Swenson, Riceville, IA, Elaine (Wayne) Easter, Stewartville, MN, Wayne
(Peggy) Swenson, Wykoff, MN, Dale (Dawn) Swenson, West Concord, MN, and
Kay Barnhart, Rose Creek, MN; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 6th at
Crane Community Chapel with the Reverend Brian Thiel officiating. Interment
will be at Lansing Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church one hour
before the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.

Donald John "Butch" Miller 1944-2017
Donald John "Butch" Miller, 73, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away
Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Hospital-Rochester, Saint
Marys Campus.
Donald John Miller was born on August 24, 1944, to Donald and Myrtle
(Fink) Miller. Butch attended St. Augustine Parochial School in Austin,
and graduated from Austin High School. In 1965 he enlisted in the U.S.
Army. Following his 1967 honorable discharge he began a long career at
Hormel Foods of Austin, retiring after 30 years of service.
He was a lifelong member at St. Augustine Catholic
Church. Butch loved spending
time with his family. His daughter Brenda meant the world to him; she
was always taking good care of him. He will be remembered as a jokester
and prankster. Butch loved Minnesota sports; his favorites included the
Vikings, Twins, Gophers and woman’s sports. He was an avid hunter, mostly
deer, pheasants and ducks in both Minnesota and Iowa. Generously and
selflessly, Butch gave the gift of organ and tissue donation to help
save and heal lives.
Survivors include his daughter, Brenda (Bruce) Oakland of Austin; son,
Brian Miller of Austin; grandchildren, Nicholas, Crista, Nicole, Amber,
Candus, and Codie; his great-grandchildren; two sisters, Diane LaRocco of
Tacoma, Washington, and Debbie Adams of Portland, Oregon; five brothers,
Gary (Terri) Miller of Rockwell, Iowa, John (Mary) Miller of Austin, Dave
(Linda) Miller of Austin, Steve Miller of Austin and Brad Miller of Austin;
sister-in-law, Lynn Miller of Austin; best friends, Larry Hanson, and Ron
Howard; and his dog, Oreo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald
and Myrtle Miller; and his brother, Bill.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at
Worlein Funeral Home in Austin with Father James Steffes officiating. The
Miller family will be greeting friends for one hour prior to the service
at the funeral home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin with
military honors.
Memorials can be directed to St. Jude's, the Shriners or recipient of
donor's choice.
