Pauline G. (Diaz) Iverson

1953-2016

Pauline G. Iverson, 63, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday June 17, 2016, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Pauline was born in Albert Lea on April 3, 1953, to Paul and Sarah (Villarreal) Diaz. Pauline grew up in Albert Lea and was raised in the Catholic faith at St. Theodore Catholic Church where she also attended school.

In January of 1997, Pauline married Michael Iverson in Austin, Minnesota. Pauline held various jobs in Austin and Albert Lea as a caregiver in different group homes to those with special needs. She belonged to the Eagles Auxiliary and enjoyed working there. In her free time, Pauline would drive her Harley Davidson, tend to her flower garden, listen to the old time 50s and 60s music, and play on her tech gadgets. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Those left to treasure her memory include her husband, Michael Iverson; mother and step-father, Sarah and Donald Wirtjes; son, William (Nicole) Weiser and their kids, Jadyn & Mason; as well as other relatives and friends.

Pauline was preceded in death by her father, Paul Diaz; step-father, Stan Suiter; siblings, Joseph Diaz, Willie Diaz, Cornelius Diaz, and Theresa Diaz Gamble Gilbert.

Funeral services for Pauline G. Iverson will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Father Russ Scepaniak will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in St. Theodore Cemetery.

Cornelius DeRemer

1835-1915

CORNELIUS DE REMER.

Cornelius DeRemer died at his home in Nevada township, Feb. 4, 1915. aged [illegible] months and one day. He was born in Montgomery Co., New York, October 3, 1835. He came to Wisconsin in 1843 where he grew to manhood. In 1862 he came to Minnesota [illegible] purchased the farm on which he has since lived. He was thus the pioneer of two states, enduring all hardships.

He was married to Frances E. Dillingham in 1870. To them were born nine children, six of whom still live, three sons and three daughters [illegible] DeRemer, J. R., Arthur and Mrs. P. S. Hanson, all living in Nevada. Also Mrs. George Howard [illegible] Mrs. Robert Haney of [illegible]. One brother, J. H. DeRemer lives in Austin. Eighteen grand- [illegible] live to mourn his loss.

Mr. DeRemer was in poor health for three months, but was confined to his bed only three weeks. The funeral was held at his home Saturday, Feb. [illegible] L. Riley officiating and interment in Enterprise cemetery.

Albert Corson

1840-1919

Albert Corson

Albert Corson of South Jay street died at his home Wednesday afternoon about 5 o'clock at the age of 78 years. He had been sick for a few days at the last, from Friday until Wednesday. Three years ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis and has not been strong since. He had been working as flagman at the Great Western crossing on Alleghany street for six years and was at work until Friday.

He was born November 25, 1840 at Brogansville, Canada. Two children were born of his first marriage, Charles and John, who live in Iowa. He was again married October 3, 1881, to Mrs. Delia Cutshaw at Patchgrove, Wis. In 1902 they came to this vicinity. Six children were born to this union, Edna and Etta, who are dead, Willie, George and Mrs. John Morgan of Austin and Myrtle Reid of Postville, Iowa.

Deceased was a member since young manhood of the United Brethren church. The funeral was held at 2 o'clock at the home on Jay street Thursday afternoon, Rev. Brown of the Lutheran church officiating.

Clifford Palvin Horgen

1896-1960

Clifford Horgen Rites Held At Our Savior's

Funeral services for Clifford Palvin Horgen, 63, were held in Lyle Wednesday, August 17 at Our Savior Lutheran church with the Rev. Merland Johnson officiating. Interment was in Enterprise cemetery near Austin.

Clifford Horgen was born September 13, 1896 to Mr. and Mrs. Hans Horgen in Mitchell county, Iowa near Osage. He was baptized as an infant near Osage and confirmed in Osage Lutheran church. He received his elementary education in the Orchard school. He lived near Osage until 1913 when he moved to Mower county where he spent the rest of his life. He was married to Jessie Reed October 19, 1930 at Mason City, Iowa. He had been engaged in farming in the Lyle area the past forty years, and was a member of the Lyle Town Board and also has held the office of Mower county Supervisor.

He died Sunday, August 14 at Memorial Hospital in Osage after suffering a heart attack at 4:30 p.m. that same afternoon.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie; his mother, Mrs. Pauline Horgen, Mona, one sister, Mrs. Martin Willinger, Mona. Two uncles, Hans Peterson, Osage and Carl Peterson, Hudson, Iowa. Two step-sons, Harold Reed, Janesville, Wis. and Lyle Reed of Austin, Minn. Also one niece, Mrs. Curtis Fisher of Polo, Illinois and one nephew Robert Horgen in Korea.

Preceding him in death were his father, two brothers, Earl and Alvin and one sister, Mrs. Albert Skov. C.R.

Nancy Lynn (Harber) Schwartz

1952-2016

Nancy Lynn Schwartz, age 63, of rural Blooming Prairie, Minnesota died surrounded by her family, Friday afternoon, June 3, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Health System - Austin, Minnesota.

Nancy Lynn Harber was born November 28, 1952, in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Robert Earl and Doris Mae (Mellem) Harber. Nancy was baptized and confirmed Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church. She attended school in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, graduating from Blooming Prairie High School in 1970.

On October 6, 1972, she was united in marriage to Jim Schwartz at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church and to this union two children were born. They were later divorced.

Nancy lived and worked for several years in Albert Lea at the Holiday Inn and later at the Carpenter Company. She returned to the Blooming Prairie area to assist her parents as they aged and helped them remain independent. While living near Blooming Prairie, Nancy worked in the clerical department at Hormel Foods, retiring in May of 2016. She loved to do puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and mind games and enjoyed watching The Bachelorette and Dancing with The Stars as well as figure skating competitions. Nancy also enjoyed eating out, working in her yard and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church and WELCA.

Survivors include her children, Mark (Nicole) Schwartz of Austin and Jennifer (Bill) Tilford of Pine Island; three grandchildren: Gabrielle, Gavin and Cali Tilford; three brothers, Mike (Deloris) Harber of Austin, Dan (Liz) Harber of Waseca and Tom (Tammy) Harber of Blooming Prairie; two sisters, Jean (Todd) Lewis of Dothan, Alabama and Denise (Mike) Fogarty of Rochester; also many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by parents, Robert and Doris Harber and a granddaughter, Chloe.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, 30456 Mower Freeborn Road, rural Austin, Minnesota with Pastor Lindsey Stolen, officiating. Interment will follow the service in Udolpho Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, June 6th at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and for one hour prior the service at the church on Tuesday.

Nancy Louise (Tschida) Grunewald

1950-2016

Nancy Louise Grunewald, 65, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Sacred Heart Care Center with her family by her side after a twenty-four year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Nancy Tschida was born to Eugene and Caroline Tschida on December 24, 1950, in St. Paul, Minnesota. She graduated from Pacelli High School in 1968. On September 18, 1972, Nancy married Jim Grunewald at Queen of Angels Catholic Church. The couple was married for 41 years and raised four children. She and Jim had 13 grandchildren.

Nancy and Jim owned and operated G & G Heating and Air Conditioning in Austin where Jim ran the calls and Nancy ran Jim. She also worked at Hoversten Law Office for several years. When Nancy was no longer able to work at G & G, her next adventure in life was homeschooling their youngest daughter Carrie. As if that wasn’t enough, during that time Nancy also started her career as an author writing three childrens' books.

Nancy's greatest joy was her family and her time spent with them whether it be boat rides up and down the Mississippi River, weekends at Leech Lake or simply playing board games around the dining room table. Nancy had a heart for serving others and volunteering in the community.

Nancy is survived by her four children, son Chris (Laura) Grunewald, Austin, Minnesota; daughters Angie (Mike) Bothun, Austin, Minnesota; Lisa (Zach) Schara, Austin, Minnesota; Carrie (John-Howard) Carroll, Rochester, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren, Carley, Owen, Jora, Samantha, Josiah, Bubba, Maisy, Dane, Grace, Chase, Amy, Henry and Julia; siblings, Sue Lastine, Tom (Angelina) Tschida, Carole (Scott) Anderson; Rob (Lisa) Tschida; Joe Tschida; Patrick Tschida; Andy Tschida; brother-in-law, Phil (Mary) Grunewald; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, parents Eugene and Caroline Tschida; brother, Michael; mother and father-in-law Henry and Marie Grunewald.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at St. Edward Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery with a reception to follow. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and at the church for one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the family and will be dispersed to organizations close to Nancy's heart.

Alison Ann (Slaathaug) Reburn

1983-2016

April 19, 1983 - May 20, 2016 (age 33)

Alison Ann Slaathaug Reburn passed away at home on the morning of May 20, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Alison was born on April 19, 1983 in South Dakota. She attended school in Lennox, SD and went to college at Buena Vista University where she majored in Studio Art and met the love of her life.

Alison and Ben were married on July 16, 2005 and moved to Japan where they taught English for three years. Their son Max was born in Japan in 2007, and their daughter Ayla was born in 2010.

Alison was an accomplished photographer and loving, full-time mom. Alison was a founding member of the LeRoy Lions Club and the LeRoy Farmer’s Market.

Alison is survived by her husband Ben, her children Max and Ayla, and her parents Gail Tallaksen and Al and Evie Slaathaug; her brothers Joel Tallaksen and Jake Slaathaug with his wife Carrie; her parents in-law Barry and Deb Reburn and brother in-law Tom Reburn with his wife Lindi; her nieces and nephews Brayden and Taylor Buthe and Liam Slaathaug, and Carter, Ellie, Parker, and Paxton Reburn; her maternal grandmother Charlotte Fiedler and her paternal grandmother Donna Slaathaug.

Services will be held at Alison's home at 710 N Broadway, LeRoy, Minnesota, on Monday, May 30, at 2:00 p.m., gathering until 5:00 p.m. In case of rain, services will be at St. Patrick's Church in LeRoy, Minnesota.

Richard Lunde, 82 of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday, June 5, 2016 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

Richard was born August 16, 1933 in Austin, Minnesota the son of Russell and Leona (Halling) Lunde. He graduated from Austin High School where he had played basketball. A lifelong resident of Austin, Richard was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Everyone that knew Richard, knows that he always had a story to share.

He was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Leona Lunde and his step mother Ruth Lunde.

Richard is survived by cousins, Peggy Anderson, Mary Jo Sayles and Ruth French.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 10th at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with Intern Pastor Lisa Meshke officiating. Interment will be at the Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery, Adams, Minnesota.

Marilyn Mae (Heydt) Hanson

1940-2016

Born: August 12, 1940
Died: April 18, 2016

Obituary--

Marilyn was born August 12, 1940 in Sargeant, Minnesota, the daughter of Ed and Ann Heydt. Marilyn graduated from Hayfield High School and later studied and practiced cosmetology as well as interior decorating.

On April 11, 1964, Marilyn was united in marriage with Craig Hanson at the Zion United Methodist Church in Sargeant, Minnesota. Marilyn and Craig farmed while raising four children in rural Worth County and later moved to Northwood to finish their careers and enjoy retirement.

Marilyn was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend! She enjoyed golfing, sewing and quilting, cooking and baking, gardening and canning and spending time with family playing cards and Yahtzee. Marilyn was an active member of the Deer Creek Lutheran Church.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Craig Hanson of Northwood; her four children Todd Hanson of San Francisco, Calif., Cheryl (Kent) Nitcher of Northwood, Iowa, Joyce (Mike) Frohwein of Des Moines, Iowa and Troy (Sherie) Hanson of Allenton, Wisconsin; grandchildren Marissa Nitcher, Dylan Nitcher and Tyler Davis, Brittany and Tom Johnson, Thomas Frohwein, Elizabeth Frohwein and a great granddaughter due in August (Dylan and Tyler's); brother Richard (Jane) Heydt of Bismarck, North Dakota; brothers-in-law Wayne (Mavis) Hanson, Luther (Ila) Hanson; sisters-in-law Sharon (Robert) Gordon, Darlene Meling and Gwen Hanson; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Allen E. Belden, 51, of Austin, Minnesota, died at his mother's home on Sunday, June 5, 2016, surrounded by his loving family after a two-year battle with cancer.

Allen Edward Belden was born on December 10, 1964, in Austin, Minnesota, the son of Harold C. and Jannette (Emery) Belden. He graduated from Pacelli High School, Riverland Community College and from business school at Fargo, North Dakota. He served in the Minnesota National Guard. Allen married Kimberly Jo Shaw on March 16, 1991, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin. They have lived in the Austin area and Allen was employed as a mechanical technician for Akkerman Inc. of Brownsdale, Minnesota. He traveled throughout the United States and world wide with his job.

Allen was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, The American Legion, the Eagles Club and served as Scout Master for Troop 109. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Al was also a demolition derby fan and had been a driver over the years.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Kendra Jo, father Harold, Sr. and brother Harold, Jr.

Allen is survived by his wife, Kimberly Belden, Austin, Minnesota; children, Adam Belden and fiance Hailey Hughson-Farrell, Shareena Belden and fiancé Logan Boyd, Colin Belden, Thaddeus Belden, Joshua Belden, Andrew Belden and Liana Belden, all of Austin; mother, Jannette Belden, Austin, Minnesota; sister, Diane Otterson, Killen, Texas; brother, Martin Belden, Austin, Minnesota; sister, Barbara (Brian) Prentis, Austin, Minnesota; brothers, Anthony (Lisa) Belden, Austin, Minnesota, and Matthew (Patsi) Belden, Austin, Minnesota; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leslie and Betty Shaw, Austin, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Kevin Shaw, Riverview, Florida; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Helen Virginia (Wiese) Campbell

1937-2016

Helen V. Campbell, 79, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died Monday, June 6, 2016, at her home.

Helen Virginia Wiese was born May 11, 1937, in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Fred and Mildred (Myster) Wiese. She attended Hayfield and Blooming Prairie schools. On Sept. 26, 1959, Helen was united in marriage to Maynard Campbell in Mason City, Iowa. Helen enjoyed her years as a homemaker and raising three daughters with Maynard, living in Blooming Prairie over 30 years before moving to Dexter in 2005. Her favorite pastimes included embroidery, dancing, shopping, and lunching with her best friend Avis. Helen followed Maynard’s stock car racing career for over 25 years, and was formerly part-owner of the Cubby Hole in Albert Lea. She especially loved spending time with her family and her little dog Chi Chi, her very best companion. Helen would like to be remembered as a mom, a friend, and for helping her family whenever she could. She will be dearly missed.

Helen is survived by her daughters Pam (Rick) Gunderson of Rochester, Minnesota, Debra (John) Newman of Austin, Minnesota, and Linda (William) Nelson of Dexter, Minnesota; her special friend Gary Christiansen of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and her brother, Arnold Wiese, of Blooming Prairie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mildred Wiese; her husband, Maynard Campbell, in 2000; her sister, Catharine; her sister-in-law, Esther Wiese; her best friend, Avis; and her great-granddaughter, Kayleigh.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with Reverend Heidi Heimgartner officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday morning for one hour prior to the service, at the church. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to recipient of donor’s choice. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home. Gary Michael Poshusta

1952-2016

Gary Michael Poshusta, 63, of Silverdale, Washington, and formerly of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016, surrounded by his children and siblings at the Seattle, Washington, VA hospital from a short illness.

Gary was born June 23, 1952, to Robert and Patricia (Proulx) Poshusta. Gary graduated from Pacelli High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from the Hutchinson, Minnesota, voctech in non-destructive metal testing. Gary was retired from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Gary married Margaret Wentzel; they later divorced.

Gary is survived by daughter, Heath (Cody) Sandler, grandson, Tate Sandler; son, Robery; brothers: Richard "Dick" (Leanne), Paul (Sharroll), Craig (Joyce) and John; sisters: Jane Vander Bosche (Richard “Rick”), Susan, Nancy Thomas (Lance) and Karen Markey (David). Gary is also survived by numbers nieces and nephews. Gary's memorial will be held at a later date.

Family prefers memorials to any VA hospital or VA Fisher House for families of hospitalized military and veteran patients.

Gary died with great dignity and will always be missed and remembered by his family and friends.

Lorin Clayton Kruger

1930-2016

Lorin Clayton Kruger, 85, passed away on June 5, 2016.

He entered this world on Sept. 16, 1930, in George, Iowa, born to Jake and Irene (Hassebrock) Kruger. He went to Country School and later graduated from Ashton High School in Ashton, Iowa. Lorin served two years in Army, stationed in Germany.

He was married to Irene Lynn at St. Mary's Church in Lakefield, Minnesota, in 1956. They lived on a farm south of Adrian, Minnesota and moved into Austin, Minnesota in 1969. Lorin loved fishing, sports, and spending time at the cabin in Winter, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Irene Kruger; siblings, Lavina Foster, Fern O'Brien, Anita Jobes, and Arlin Kruger.

Lorin is survived by his wife, Irene Kruger; children, Timothy (Ellen) Kruger, Patricia (John) Brown, Kelly (Susan) Kruger, Michael Kruger; grandchildren, Jack Brown, Joshua Brown, Kayla Kruger; siblings, Leon (Marge) Kruger, Myrna Trei, Jan (Conrad) Krans; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A Graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. assembly lane No. 2 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services Beebe Chapel of New Richmond.

Vernon L. Ferguson

c1942-2016

Vernon L. Ferguson, 73, of Bloomington, Minnesota, passed away February 15, 2016.

He was preceded in death by wife of 49 years, Karen; and parents, Gilbert Ferguson and Eva DeVries.

He is survived by daughters, Jill (Todd) Anderson, Jayne (Peter) Gjervold, and Jennelle (Jason) Goodrie; grandchildren, Rachel (Timothy), Rebecca, Nichole, Alyssa, Jeremy, and Ashley; brother, Jim (Jeannie); half-siblings, Kevin (Sandy), Todd, Julie (Jason) Murphy, and Skip (Sara); Janet and Darrell Sheeley; and many other loving family and friends.

Memorial service Saturday, June 18, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. with visitation one hour prior at: Crane Community Chapel, 1111 Ninth St. NE, Austin. Inurnment with military honors at Grandview Cemetery.

Byron Miles Crippin

1928-2016

Byron M. Crippin, 87, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Thursday, June 9, 2016, at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Byron Miles Crippin Jr. was born on October 19, 1928, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Bryon Miles Sr. and Grace Marie (Smith) Crippin.

Byron grew up in Kansas, Wisconsin, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, graduating from Washburn High School. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota. While completing his undergraduate, he was also a part of the Army ROTC. He excelled in the classroom, achieving his Juris Doctorate of Law from the University of Minnesota and was among the few in the Order of the Coif. This prepared him for a career as a Corporate and Estate Attorney.

Byron married Marie Alberta Bradbury on October 29, 1955, in Minneapolis. Together they raised three children, Patricia, David, and Linda in Austin, Minnesota where Byron was General Counsel for Hormel. Following a long career of corporate law, he started a second career in planned giving and estate planning for Lowell Lundstrom Ministries, Bethel College and Compassion International. He and Marie retired to Storm Lake, Iowa to be near their grandchildren.

Byron served in the Army during the Korean Conflict earning the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Following his honorable discharge, he continued to serve his country through the Army Reserves attaining the rank of Major.

Byron was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Newell, Iowa. Byron's faith in Jesus Christ was of utmost importance to him. He showed his faith through his 55 year marriage and partnership with Marie. He believed in treating others with respect and living his life with high integrity. His faith in the church was shown in a variety of ways such as being a part of Christian non-profit organizations that addressed spiritual, educational, and physical needs for children, his desire to help others learn English via ESL, consistently praying for the persecuted church, and attempting to be a compassionate friend to all.

Besides being involved in the church, Byron served on the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees and was involved with the Republican Party. Some of his other interests included his love for photography and dogs.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Patricia (Jose) Pardo of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Dr. David (Glee) Crippin of Storm Lake, Iowa; and Linda Crippin of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Alexander (Laura) Crippin of Northwood, Iowa; and Nicholas (Brittany) Crippin of Wichita, Kansas; cousin, Marvin Smith of Topeka, Kansas; and extended family and friends.

Byron was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved wife, Marie.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:30 until the beginning of the service at the funeral home. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Vernita Irene (Patzer) Branstad

1929-2016

Vernita Irene Branstad, 86, of Hayfield, Minnesota, passed away on June 9, 2016, to be with her heavenly father and all the Saints of Christ.

Vernita was born on December 4, 1929, the daughter of Christian and Emma (Nuss) Patzer in South Dakota. Vernita married Kenneth Andrew Branstad on April 17, 1948, at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin, Minnesota. They had five sons. Ken and Vernita were married almost 63 years.

She lead a simple life enjoying spending the summers camping at Graves Lake Resort and Campground in Remer, Minnesota. Vernita enjoyed fishing, playing cards, bowling, Bible Study, hand embroidery of dish towels, and spending time with her family.

Vernita is survived by her sons, Robert, Hayfield, Minnesota; Marvin (Shirley Haden), Blaine, Minnesota; Ronald, Osage, Iowa; Dennis (Cynthia), Owatonna, Minnesota; Arlin (Mona), Elgin, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sisters, Loretta Nelson, Austin, Minnesota; Veleria (George) Branstad, Remer, Minnesota; Alice Mayer, Charles City, IA, Shirley Olson, Owatonna, Minnesota; and sister-in-law, Mona Patzer, Cass Lake, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; brother, Arlington Patzer, and sister Verna Mills.

The funeral service for Vernita Irene Branstad will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 First St. SE in Hayfield, Minnesota, with Reverend Paul Hauschild officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin, Minnesota.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2016, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 Second St. NW in Hayfield, Minnesota.

Doris Gayle (LeGrant) Davis

1926-2016

Doris Gayle Davis, 90, of Reedsville, Wisconsin, passed away on May 27, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family.

Doris was born on April 30, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, daughter of the late Leonard Earl and Elsie Irene (Strickland) LeGrant. She graduated from Cedar Rapids High School, class of 1944. Doris went on to further her education at Coe College in Cedar Rapids and the Virginia Presbyterian College, graduating with a degree in Christian Education. She loved to learn, and while taking summer courses at Drake University, she met the love of her life, Kenneth Davis.

The couple was married on June 3, 1955, at University Christian Church in Des Moines, Iowa. Ken was a minister in several different churches during their marriage. Doris worked and served in many jobs throughout her life, both as a secretary in a variety of places and in many capacities in the church. She was always a very active part of each of the churches that her husband was called to. Doris taught Sunday school and Bible school, adult education classes and Bible study, sang in the choir, and served on many committees in different churches through the years. She enjoyed volunteering and always gave back to the communities where the couple lived and served.

Doris also enjoyed baking, crossword puzzles, crocheting prayer shawls and blankets for local hospitals, family and friends. She especially loved to play cards and spend time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. After retiring, the couple moved to Austin, Minnesota where they lived for 20 years before recently moving to Reedsville, WI to be close to their daughter. Doris had an unwavering faith in God, a generous heart, cheerful spirit, and was known for her infectious laugh and beautiful smile. She touched so many lives with her unconditional love and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Doris is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ken of Reedsville; two daughters: Janelle (Alan) Condra of Reedsville and Lori Davis Soule of Williston, Vermont; four grandchildren Alissa Condra, Seth Condra, Jared Soule, and Leah Soule; brother-in-law Fred (Phyllis) Davis; niece Jerra (Ed) Wilkinson; nephew Fred B. Davis; and other relatives and friends.

Friends may call during the memorial visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at the Wieting Funeral Home, 15 Seventh St. in Reedsville. The visitation will be followed by a private family memorial service.

Agnes Bernadine Mullenbach

1934-2016

Agnes B. Mullenbach, 82 of Adams, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at the Adams Health Care Center.

Agnes Bernadine Mullenbach was born May 11, 1934, to Anthony P and Martha (Goergen/Hueman) Mullenbach in Adams Township, Mower County, Minnesota. She spent her whole life, living and working in the Adams area. Agnes had worked at the Farmers State Bank of Adams, Adams Dental Clinic with Dr. Carl Winkels, the Adams Cooperative Creamery, LaVonne's Grocery, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart CCW and Catholic Aid.

Agnes enjoyed living on the family farm, raising sheep and chickens with her dog Tricksie and many kittens. Agnes was a kind and loving person always ready to help others at any time and was her parent's caregiver.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents and a grandniece, Sarah Mullenbach.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Betty Mullenbach, LaCrosse, Wisconsin; nephew and wife, Daniel and Cece Mullenbach, Onalaska, Wisconsin, nieces and husbands, Ann and Michael Birka, Arlington, Texas, Carol and Steve McCuen, Banks, Oregon, and Beth and Kia Elgethun, Boise, Idaho; grandnieces and grandnephews, Garret Birka, Grayson Birka, Jasmine Silver, Sierra (Henry) Meeuwsen, Jared Mullenbach, Wyatt McCuen, Daniel McCuen, Freida Elgethun and Tova Elgethun.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Adams, Minnesota, with Father Swaminatha Pothireddy officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service. The Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Harvey Oscar Lysne

1923-2016

Harvey Oscar Lysne, age 93 of Austin, Minnesota died Friday, June 10, 2016 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

He was born May 25, 1923 in Freeborn County, Minnesota, the son of Oscar and Hilda (Luthe) Lysne. Harvey attended country school. He worked for Hormel Foods as a laborer beginning in 1942.

On July 27, 1943, Harvey and Selma Thompson were united in marriage at Salem Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon, Washington. The couple raised two children. Harvey served his country in the U.S. Marines Corps, doing M.P. duty in the 9th Naval District before serving overseas. In Hawaii, he joined the 155th Gun Battalion as a 50 caliber machine gunner, also seeing action on Enewetak Atoll in the Marshall Islands, Manus Island in New Guinea, Guam, and Leyte Island in the Philippines.

He was discharged at Great Lakes Naval Station on December 5, 1945, then returned to work at Hormel Foods until his retirement November 26, 1981. Harvey joined the Austin Police Reserves in 1962, serving for 23 years. Following his retirement in 1981, he served as a V.F.W. Post 1216 funeral escort. Harvey liked to travel and enjoyed fishing.

He was a member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, the American Legion and V.F.W. Color Guard. Harvey especially enjoyed time spent with his family, and his grandchildren were very special to him.

Survivors include his wife Selma Lysne of Austin; his children Sandra (Wayne) Bonnes of Austin and Steven (Linda) Lysne of Colby, WI; four grandchildren Michelle (Scott) Seeman, Matthew (Melissa) Bonnes, Nichole Lysne (Mike Bialas), Courtney (Dan) Manke; seven great-grandchildren; siblings Esther (James) Dalager and Agnes Lerud, both of Austin, Maxine (Bill) Prendy of Mankato, Eugene (Barbara) Lysne of Albert Lea, James (Beverly) Lysne of Owatonna, Sharon Johnson of Geneva, and Donna (David) Symes of Austin.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Hilda Lysne and two sisters Edna Potter and Barbara Ramsey.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church in rural Austin with Pastor Lindsay Stolen officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Red Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 91 and V.F.W. Post 1216.

Memorials can be directed to Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church or recipient of donor's choice.

Colleen Marie (Currey) Losey

1947-2016

Colleen M. Losey, 68, of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, died Sunday June 12, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Hospitals -- St. Marys Campus.

Colleen Marie Losey was born October 1, 1947. in Appleton, Minnesota, to Gordon and LeVina (Kashmark) Currey. She graduated from John Marshall High School in 1965 and was united in marriage to Paul "Bob" Losey on Aug. 26, 1966. in Rochester.

Colleen had many hobbies over the years. She was a very creative person who enjoyed trying out different crafts. She could create anything involving sewing, drawing, painting, sculpting and anything floral. She loved cooking and trying new recipes plus had her favorites that everyone loved. Gardening was also her passion.

She was a very driven, giving person who always exceeded expectations. Over the years she held many jobs some of which she was able to use her creative skills. In her younger years she was a very talented wig stylist and hair model.

After she married, she was able to stay home and take care of the two children until they became of an age for her to return to work. She then worked for the small grocery store in Grand Meadow, then a receptionist, then a convenience store manager at two different places and then finally landed her dream job of being a landscape designer. She loved everything about plants and flowers. Creating the front or back yards for people was her passion. She would not only design but also be the one digging holes. It was during this career that she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

For a few years following her diagnosis she fought through her disease and continued to create amazing landscapes.

Colleen is survived by her husband Paul “Bob” Losey of Grand Meadow, two children; Crystal (Devlan) Thorson of Boise, Idaho and Tate (Fiancé Michelle Germann) Losey of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, two grandchildren Logan and Cora and one brother Craig Currey of Crystal Lake, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parent Gordon and LeVina Currey.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016, at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church with Rev Beth Krolak officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow and will continue for 1hr prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Grand Meadow Cemetery.

Lillian Helen (Oldenkamp) Johnson

1942-2016

Lillian Helen Johnson, 74, formerly of Sargeant, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa. Lillian was born on May 6, 1942, in Orange City, Iowa, the daughter of Bert and Tillie (Bremer) Oldenkamp. She graduated from Albert Lea High School and attended Austin Junior College. Lillian was united in marriage to Neil Johnson on March 19, 1966, in Brownsdale. Lillian and her husband lived in the Sargeant area for many years and raised livestock. Lillian enjoyed traveling, raising children and grandchildren, caring for her animals, being a farm wife, especially doing field work. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and Bible School teacher. Lillian is survived by her children, Marlene (Robert) Heinz, LaSalle, Illinois; Wesley (Dondee) Johnson, Sargeant, Minnesota; and Linda (Arlie) Brandmeyer, Ankeny, Iowa; three grandchildren, Sydney, Aaron Brandmeyer, Ankeny, Iowa; Bryce Johnson, Sargeant, Minnesota; and great-grandchildren: Kelsey, Carly and Lucas Johnson; siblings, Sadie Anderson, Austin, Minnesota; Herman Oldenkamp, Oakland, Minnesota; Henry (Barb) Oldenkamp, Oakland, Minnesota; Howard (Gayle) Oldenkamp, Austin, Minnesota; and Evelyn (Jeff) Murray, Worthington, Minnesota. Duane Joseph Kolb

1929-2016

Duane Joseph Kolb, 87, formerly of Lake City and Austin, died Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at St. Elizabeth's Health Care Center in Wabasha where he had resided the past four years.

He was born March 15, 1929 in White Earth, Minnesota, the son of Isidore and Anna Mary (Wensmann) Kolb. The family moved to Austin when he was young. He married Donna Schocker in 1951 in Austin. They were blessed with six children. They later divorced.

Duane started his career working for Austin Dairy. He became interested in carpentry and spent much of his adult life working as a carpenter for several contractors. He loved camping, fishing, riding motorcycles, travelling and playing cards. His greatest love was spending time with his family and friends.

He was a past member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Austin. He was also a past member of the Knights of Columbus.

Duane is survived by children, Rose (Gerry) Grunig, Peoria, Arizona, Raymond Kolb, Austin, Minnesota, Rodney (Pat) Kolb, Wabasha, Minnesota, Renee (Randy) Escherich, Kiester, Minnesota, Ralland (Erin) Kolb, Austin, Minnesota; 32 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-granddaughter; two brothers, LaVerne (Anna) Kolb, St. Paul, Minnesota, Dennis (Darlene) Kolb, Austin, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Russell; one granddaughter; his parents; two brothers, Raymond and Isidore; and by four sisters: Evelyn, Mary Jane, Viola and Bernice.

A funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Augustines Catholic Church in Austin with the Reverend Father James Steffes officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Austin. Casket bearers will be Aaron Kolb, Justin Kolb, Trevor Kolb, Jeremy Grunig, and Jacob and Andrea Escherich. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday one hour before the Mass.

Dorothea P. (Wilke) (Remley)
CALHOUN

1932-2016

Dorothea Remley Calhoun, 83, formerly of Mower County, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2016, at the Ostrander Care and Rehab Center.

Dorothea P. Wilke was born July 17, 1932, in Burlington, Iowa, to Theodore and Laura (Sheets) Wilke. When she was 5 years old, her mother died of scarlet fever. Dorothea and her five siblings were put into orphanages and foster homes when their father was not able to care for them. She grew up between the Burlington, Bloomfield and Ottumwa areas in Iowa.

In 1949, she moved to Plainfield, Iowa, where she worked as a nanny and lived over the drug store. It was at this drugstore she met Harold Remley. They were married May 21, 1950. They lived in the Plainfield and Clarksville, Iowa, area until 1958, when they relocated; with their two daughters, to Stacyville, Iowa. In 1967, they moved to Taopi, Minnesota, and then to Ostrander, Minnesota, in 1971.

Harold and Dorothea later divorced and she moved to Grand Meadow, Minnesota. In 1977, she married Donald Calhoun and lived in Spring Valley where she was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. Her husband, Don, died in 1987.

Dorothea and her ex-husband, Harold, rekindled their friendship and became roommates. They traveled together to many places, including a trip to Alaska. She lived north of Dodge Center, Minnesota until Sept. 17, 2014 when she entered the Ostrander Care and Rehab Center.

She is survived by her daughters; Roberta (Jim) Heckerson of Spring Valley and Rosemary (Ed) Hoefs of Hayfield, Minnesota, step-daughters; Debbie (Scott) Vreeman and Rhonda Schild of Rochester, Minnesota; three grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, six step-great grandchildren, and a sister; Delores Two-Bears of Geneseo, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Don; special friend Hearold; a granddaughter; two step-great-grandsons; and four brothers: Jack, Robert, William and James.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday June 20, 2016, at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow. Burial will follow in the Grand Meadow Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2016, at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Beverly J. (Madison) Hanners

1931-2016

Beverly J. Hanners, age 85, of Owatonna, Minnesota, and formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, June 17, 2016, at Traditions I in Owatonna.

She was born on May 23, 1931, in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of George & Catherine (Daily) Madison. She attended school in Austin graduating from Austin High School, Class of 1950.

She was united in marriage to Harvey Hanners on July 26, 1957, at First Baptist Church in Austin. The couple made their home in Austin and later purchased an acreage outside of town and farmed. Along with farming with her husband, Beverly was a devoted mother and also worked at Hormel. Following the death of her husband, Harvey, on June 18, 1997, Beverly continued to live on the farm for one year and in 1998 moved to Owatonna. The last eight years she lived at Traditions I in Owatonna. Beverly was instrumental in establishing and was one of the original founders of Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church in Owatonna. Her faith was very important to her whether serving as a Sunday School teacher in church or attending a Bible study at Traditions.

She enjoyed being a farmwife, mother and grandmother, her birthday club, traveling with family (especially her sisters) and friends, playing bingo at Traditions and attending the fair with her Traditions friends and riding her scooter. She will be remembered for always having a beautiful smile. She is survived by her children, Debbie (Stan) Prins of Owatonna, Melody Hanners of Rochester and Yvonne (Mike) Lennon of Owatonna; grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer) Prins, Katie (Shay) Nold, Jaisden Hanners, Jaaron Hanners; great-grandchildren, Glenn, Harvey, Lary, Kaydence, Sammantha and Lucas; sisters: Bonnie Wiste of Austin, Sandy (Daryl) Klingfus of Austin, Barbara Wollenburg of Austin, Betty (Chet) Daniel of Stewartville; sisters-in-law, Shirley Madison of Austin and Lela Schmidt of Dexter; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, George & Catherine; husband, Harvey; daughter, Brenda Hanners and siblings, Dale Madison, Frank Madison, George Madison, Jr. and Elaine Madison. Wilbur Ervin Mittag

1922-2016

Born: June 13, 1922
Died: June 17, 2016

Wilbur Ervin Mittag, 94, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on June 17th, 2016 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home after a short illness.

Wilbur was born June 13th, 1922 in Freeborn County to Walter and Olga (Lau) Mittag. Walter was deceased prior to Wilbur’s birth. His mother married Robert Broitzman when he was 2 years old and he became Robert's step son. Wilbur attended country school through 8th grade. On December 28th, 1943 he married Evelyn Yaste at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Myrtle, Minnesota. They started their lives together on a farm near Myrtle where their first son was born. Seven years later they bought a farm near Lyle, Minnesota, where they lived for 22 years and where their daughter and a second son were born. Austin has been home for the last forty two years.

Wilbur was a skilled carpenter and a creative handyman and tinkerer. He especially enjoyed keeping a beautiful lawn and sharing his woodworking talents with friends and family.

Wilbur was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and contributed his wood working talent in several areas of the church. He enjoyed volunteering at Mayo Medical Center and the American Red Cross blood bank where he was a faithful donor.

Survivors include his children, Bob (Cindy) Mittag of Beavercreek, Ohio, Becky (Ronnie) Pitzen of Stacyville, Iowa, and Rod (Sarah) Mittag of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren, Jennifer Wilcox, Laura (Brandon) Smith, Brian (Jessica) Pitzen, Michael (Katie) Pitzen, Kevin (Mandy) Pitzen, Eric (Jamie) Pitzen, Cooper and Maisie Mittag and nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, step father, wife Evelyn, two brothers, Luverne and Gaylen, and sister Luetta Wolff.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 23rd at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with the Reverend Karen Behling officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and at the church on Thursday for one hour before the service.

Grace (Diekema) Gregg

1924-2016

Died: June 18, 2016

Grace Gregg, 91 of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.

Grace was born on October 11, 1924 in Reasnor, Iowa to Fredrick and Grace (Bos) Diekema. She grew up in Hollandale and graduated from Albert Lea High School. Grace married Wesley Gregg on November 15, 1945.

Grace worked for 22 years as a nursing assistant at St. Mark's Lutheran Home. Her favorite job was being a grandma and great grandma; family was her biggest priority. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and baking. She loved animals, especially cats and dogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wesley, brothers Arthur Diekema and Dick Diekema and sister Mary Finholdt.

Grace is survived by her children: Milla (Gary) Applen, Austin, MN; Fred Gregg and Ann Kendrick, Austin, MN; Kathy Gregg, Austin, MN; and Norma (Terry) Plath, Austin, MN; grandchildren: Laurie (Jeff) Cooper; David Applen; Terrance Plath and Tara Scott; and Alex Plath; great-grandchild: Benjamin Cooper; nieces and nephews; and her Sacred Heart family.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 22nd at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Reverend Catherine Lemons officiating. Private family interment will be held at Rose Creek Enterprise Cemetery. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Wednesday for one hour before the service.

Galen Lee Williamson

1949-2016

Galen L. Williamson, age 66 of Austin, Minnesota died Thursday March 10, 2016 at his home.

Galen Lee was born March 20, 1949 in Austin, Minnesota to Lawrence and Beverly (Ellston) Williamson. Galen attended Austin schools, and was working for Kolb Bakery in Austin. Galen continued as a baker in Albert Lea for several years before moving to Denver, Colorado. He returned to Austin, and began his career as a commercial glazier.

In 1985 he met his future wife. Galen was united in marriage on May 3, 1986 to Melodie Meyer. Galen and Melodie later divorced but remained close friends until his passing. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Four years ago Galen was proud to have finally become a "Harley Owner!" Galen was known for baking wonderful bread and lefse. He loved his nieces and nephews, and time spent with his cats, especially Marguerite.

Galen is survived by Melodie Williamson of Austin; siblings Carol (Laurlyn "Bub") Lau of Glenville, Robert (Isabel) Williamson of Aurora, Colorado, Joanne (Robert) Bastyr of Austin; nieces and nephews Lisa Klooster of Des Moines, Iowa, Lori Poole of Glenville, Chad Lau of Glenville, Jennifer Hernandez of Austin, Kimberly Bastyr of Austin, Vincent Williamson of Arvada, Colorado, Abigail Wilmes of Colorado Springs, Colorado; former brother-in-law Mike Meyer of Austin and his sons Joshua and John; former father-in-law and mother-in-law Alvin and Ramona Meyer of Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, paternal and maternal grandparents, and brother Lawrence in infancy.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Reverend Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Galen's family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service Saturday, at the funeral home.

William Michael Goblirsch

c1943-2016

William Michael Goblirsch, 72, of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, passed away at his home on June 19, 2016, after an 18-month battle with cancer.

Bill graduated from St. John's University in 1966 with a degree in Accounting and Economics. His long and varied career had its roots at Arthur Andersen. Bill loved vacationing in Mazatlan with Sandy, watching his grandkids play ball, and generally enjoying life to its fullest with family and his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Goblirsch and Marie Goblirsch.

He is survived by wife of 51 years, Sandra Goblirsch; daughters: Michelle (Kenny) Goblirsch Cole and Danielle (Tom) Genz; grandchildren: Sarah, Jeremy and Matthew Genz; sister, Anne Brown; many other relatives and friends.

A memorial gathering will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Ave. S., Edina, 952-924-4100.

Dean Henry Braaten

1957-2016

Dean Henry Braaten, 59 of Dexter, Minnesota, left this life unexpectedly on Saturday, June 18, 2016.

Dean was born March 15, 1957, the son of Orlene and Darlene (Kirkpatrick) Braaten. He attended school in Elkton and graduated in 1975 from Southland High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army where he spent some time in Germany. After the service, he took carpentry classes at the Vo-Tech and began his career as a siding and window installer. Dean worked for various local companies and eventually co-owned his own business, Morgan-Braaten Siding and Windows with Steve Morgan.

Dean became a great marksman at a young age. He and his brother, Dave, shot trap and competed locally. Dean acquired many friends through his avid love of racing. He raced a variety of models for over 20 years of his life. Dean also had a passion for motorcycle riding; one of his prized possessions was his Harley Davidson. Hunting and fishing were hobbies Dean enjoyed; he passed this onto anyone that wanted to learn. Dean was an excellent cook. His delicious creations were the center of many family and friend gatherings.

Dean was married to Maribeth Schlee in 2003; that marriage dissolved after eight years. However, the very close relationships with his four stepsons continued until his death.

Those that have preceded him in death are his father, Orlene Braaten, his mother, Darlene Braaten and his sister, Judith who died in infancy.

Dean will be sadly missed by many including his brother, Dave (Cathy) Braaten, Dexter, MN; sister, Jane Barnes, Spring, TX; four stepsons, Adam Schlee, Seth Schlee, Luke Schlee, Noah Schlee ,their mother, Maribeth and granddaughter, Paisley Schlee all of Grand Meadow, MN; nieces, Jesse Barnes, Angie (Brian) Shaw and Amy (Chad) Johnson; great nieces and nephews, Brody and Gavin Shaw and Marie and Celia Johnson.

There will be a visitation at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Friday, June 24th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.

Evelyn M. (Tucker) Hertle

1915-2016

Evelyn M. (Tucker) Hertle, 100, of Austin, Minnesota, quietly left her earthly home for her heavenly home on June 17, 2016.

Evelyn was born on July 4, 1915, to Laura and Milton Tucker in Hansel, Iowa.

She resided most of her life on a farm near Waltham, Minnesota, and in more recent years in Austin, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by Carl Hertle, her husband of 50 years, Barbara Beattie (granddaughter), and Kevin Maloney (great-grandson).

She is survived by her children: Clinton, Dale (Sharon), Wayne (Carol), Rebecca (Paul) Anderson, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, many great-great-grandchildren and two sisters, Francis Walburn and Faye Anderson.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on July 8, 2016, at The Grace Baptist Church, 1700 W. Oakland Ave., Austin, Minnesota, 55912.

Edward James Levy Jr.

1922-2016

Edward James Levy Jr., 93, of Brownsdale, Minnesota, died Tuesday morning, June 21, 2016, at Fieldcrest Care Center in Hayfield.

He was born November 10, 1922, in Mower County, Minnesota, the son of Edward Sr. and Ethel (Grant) Levy. Edward lived his entire life in the Austin/Brownsdale area, making his living as a farmer and a carpenter.

On November 11, 1942, he was united in marriage to Frances Mary Hall in Waseca, Minnesota. The couple raised four children. Edward loved Jesus and his church family. His favorite pastimes included riding his three-wheeled bike around Brownsdale, gardening, cooking and canning, playing bingo, listening to old time music, and watching the Lone Ranger. Ed especially enjoyed fishing and teaching his grandchildren to fish. His visits with family and friends were very dear to him.

In February 2016, he moved to Fieldcrest Care Center, where he loved the activities available to him there. His favorite game was Farkle, which he called ‘Sparkle’. Ed will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his children Joy (Darrell) Oudekirk of Austin, Nancy (James) Grant of Renville, Robben (Eugene) Crabtree of Brownsdale, his daughter-in-law Connie Levy of Mason City; his brother Delmar Levy of Elkton and sisters Marilyn (Dave) Tebay of Austin and Marion Lobbins of Willmar; his grandchildren Larry (Robyn) Oudekirk, Curt (Ann) Oudekirk, Pam (Troy) Bradshaw, Chris (Julie) Oudekirk, David (Linda) Levy, Julie (Al) Byrne, Kevin Grant, Kelly (Tom) Beekman, Kory (Amy) Grant, Kara (John) Angwin, Heather and Brady Crabtree; 27 great grandchildren, two great-great-grandsons.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Edward Sr. and Ethel Levy, his wife Frances Levy, his son Roger Levy, and three brothers Robert, Leonard, and John Levy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at Brownsdale United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Bengtson officiating. The Levy family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 24 at the church and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Brownsdale United Methodist Church. Please bring a memory of Ed to share with his family. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements. In accordance with his wishes, Edward's body will be donated to the Mayo Anatomical Bequest Program. Sandy L. (Pratt) Wheeler

1939-2016

Sandy L. Wheeler, 76, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society - Comforcare.

Sandy was born November 5, 1939, in Austin, Minnesota, to Maynard and Esther (Morey) Pratt. She attended school in Austin and was a lifelong Austin resident. Sandy married Warren Wheeler on August 8, 1959, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. The Wheelers spent their summers on Lake Mille Lacs for many years, enjoying the sunsets and fishing. She also loved to swim. Sandy raised Persian cats that were the love of her life as well as her family's dogs. She especially loved spending time with her kids, grandchildren and friends; she was a mom to everyone. Throughout her life, Sandy struggled with her health, but she always kept a positive attitude and was encouraging to others. She was the sunshine and love of everybody's lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Cliff and Maynard Pratt.

Sandy is survived by her husband: Warren Wheeler, Austin, Minnesota; children: Jamey Wheeler, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Heidi (Darryl) Sanden, Northrop, Minnesota, and Holly Anderst (Mark Shimko), St. Cloud, Minnesota; five grandchildren: J.D. Sanden, Ceylon, Minnesota, Jacob Sanden, Fairmont, Minnesota, Andy Sanden, Fairmont, Minnesota, Derek Anderst, St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and Danielle (Lee) Kiedrowski, Grand Forks, North Dakota; great-granddaughter: Lucy Kiedrowski; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Friday, June 24, 2016, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Mark Niethammer officiating, Pianist will be Ryan Hulshizer and soloist will be Michael Veldman. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Nathan Lee McFarland

Nathan L. McFarland, 32 of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.

Nathan Lee McFarland was born May 17, 1984 in Austin, Minnesota, the son of George A. McFarland, Jr and Jane (Gilbert) McFarland. He attended Austin Public Schools and Riverland College in Albert Lea. Nathan married Natalie Johnson on July 21, 2013 in Austin, Minnesota. He was recently employed as a mechanic at TT Motorcycles in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. Prior to that, Nathan was employed at Kenny’s Oak Grill for 10 years.

Nathan played hockey and baseball as a youngster and enjoyed golfing and spending time at French Lake. He was looking forward to the coming winter and sharing snowmobiling with Natalie with the snowmobile gift from Uncle David. Natalie and Nathan enjoyed their "goofy" times together, walks, bike rides and watching "The Walking Dead." Nathan loved spending time with family and friends; recently enjoying a family vacation at Gull Lake and had hopes of retiring to northern Minnesota. Nathan's children meant the world to him, he loved being a daddy.

Nathan had a way of putting a smile on your face when you were having a down day. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, George A. McFarland, Jr, paternal grandparents Gertrude Pavlik and George A. McFarland.

Nathan is survived by his wife, Natalie McFarland; children: Addison Lynn, Jaxson George, and Ava Jeannine; mother and stepfather, Jane McFarland and Peter Lange; brother, George Jesse (Ryan) McFarland; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Cindy (Larry) Powell and Scott Johnson; brother-in-law, Matthew Johnson; step-brother, Ethan Lange (Kayla Meyer); step-sisters, Brandi (Davis) Lyon, and Riley (Jonathon) Moreno; grandparents: Arlys Risius, Kenneth and JoAnne Gilbert, Jerry and Jeannine Kellogg, Avis Johnson and Dennis Pavlik; special uncle, David (Jill) McFarland; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 27th at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dennis Tamke officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Oakland, MN at a later date. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM and at the church on Monday for one hour before the service.

Obituary for Velma Marie Strange

Velma Marie (Carey) Strange, age 88, formerly of Austin, died Saturday, June 18, 2016 in Fremont, Nebraska, with her loving family by her side.

Heaven has received a beautiful new Angel.

Velma was born June 21, 1927, in Charles City, Iowa.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, John T. Strange Sr.; her only son of five children, John T. Strange Jr.; her loving daughters, with heavy hearts: Chickie Langerman of Fayette, Iowa, Cosette Vivone of Norwalk, Iowa, Susan Jorgensen of Ankeny, Iowa, and Debbie Shillington of Wendell, North Carolina. Velma's surviving siblings are her only loving brother, David Carey of Minneapolis; loving sisters, Charlene Young of Austin, Minnesota, Mary Winkles of LeRoy, Minnesota, Cela Winjun of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Rose Mary Price of Rose Creek, Minnesota.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. There will be a 4 pm rosary on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4-8 pm and also one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
