Obituary--

Arvis Gunderson

Born: February 14, 1934
Died: May 11, 2016

Arvis E. Gunderson, 82, of Adams, Minnesota passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2016. She died peacefully surrounded by her family.

Arvis E. Lukens was born in Alden, Minnesota, on February 14, 1934, the daughter of Ellis and Verda (Hosford) Lukens.

She attended Albert Lea High School where she met Allen, the love of her life, while sharing first chair in the trumpet section at band. She graduated in 1952 and then attended Mankato Teaching College. She married Allen Gunderson on July 7, 1953, in Garner, Iowa.

Arvis was a member of Little Cedar Lutheran Church. She had incredible faith and took time each day for daily devotions and prayer. As a pastor's wife, she had a flair for entertaining and welcomed anyone who walked through her door. She was an amazing cook -- to which her children are still trying to figure out her special salad recipe. She loved playing bridge, shopping, and having lunch with her sisters in law and friends. One of her favorite things was the yearly trip to Mesa, AZ where she and Allen camped with their many friends.

Arvis had a great talent in creating floral arrangements. She worked at T & R Supply in LaMoure, North Dakota, where she discovered this love. After she and Allen moved the family to Adams, she worked at the Bank Boutique and continued to create and sell her arrangements. Arvis also worked at Wagner's Super Valu and made many friends in the 28 years she worked there.

Her greatest joy in life was giving. She was a faithful care giver to her aging parents and to her husband when he became ill. She was a loving mother to six children, 13 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

Arvis is survived by her six children: Lee (Julie) Gunderson and family of Algona, Iowa, Vicki (John) Kiefer and family of Adams, Tim (Tristine) Gunderson and family of Owatonna, Janey Murphy and family of Wautaga, Texas, Pamela (Steve) Bamrick and family of Adams, and Kristopher Gunderson of Adams; Brothers in Law and Sisters in Law: Irving (Kyoko) Gunderson of Olympia, Washington, Wayne (Shirley) Gunderson of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Julie Wrolson of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Paul (Joanne) Gunderson of Elk River, Minnesota, Sandy (Craig) Stevens of Albert Lea, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams on Monday, May 16, with the Reverend Jeremy Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea. Visitation will be at the Adams Funeral Home on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and at the church one hour before the service on Monday.

Roger John Voss

1940-2016

Roger John Voss, 75, lived a fulfilled life, going to see his redeemer and savior Jesus Christ on May 17, 2016, with the love of friends and family surrounding him. Roger entered his glory land peacefully with angels singing and loved ones applauding.

Roger was born on January 25, 1940, to Viola and Carl Voss in Austin, Minnesota. Roger attended school in Austin where he was a star athlete in multiple sports. He was especially honored to be on the Austin state championship basketball team. Going on to the "U" of Colorado on a full scholarship, Roger excelled in basketball, still holding the record of most points (32) and most rebounds (28) in one game.

Roger met the love of his life, Jean Ann, who was also his cheerleader throughout their 54 years of marriage! Both Roger and Jean Ann began their teaching careers at Fort Osage High School in Independence, Missouri. Their final move was to La Crosse, Wisconsin, to be near family.

Roger had many accomplishments in life, but the most meaningful were being a dad and a husband. Roger adored, beyond belief, his beloved children Kim and Jon, his three grandchildren, Elijah (16), Zachary (14), and Isabella (9), and his favorite son-in-law Aaron. Many trips and creatively fun activities were relished by all.

Roger impacted countless lives in his 29 years of teaching physical education and coaching at Longfellow Middle School and teaching driver's education at Central High School. He also served as a driver’s educational administrator for 10 years at Western Wisconsin Technical School.

Roger has truly put others ahead of himself especially during this last chapter in his life, always telling us he was doing good right up to his final breath. His saying was, "It only takes one day to die, and the rest of the days I am living."

Roger's strong faith in the Lord began at a young age. After sprouting potatoes for his Grandma Voss, he was given $1. Roger used his money to purchase a bible at the "five and dime" store. He told his wife that he used to go to his room and read his bible. If the chapter was unusually good, he would read the entire book!

After moving to La Crosse, Roger was an active servant and a wonderful friend to all at Olivet Lutheran Church. This has been witnessed by the constant flow of loved ones from Olivet streaming in to visit and help out. We are so grateful for all of the support from family and friends.

Roger delighted in telling people his wife owned a church in South Dakota. Actually, the church was co-owned in an abandoned town — Miranda, South Dakota. Roger enjoyed many pheasant hunting hosting's at the church along with family gatherings — especially over the Fourth of July with a free flow of fire works!

Roger would want everyone to continue trusting in the Lord and giving thanks always. Lets help one another along the journey until our final destination with our best friend and savior, Jesus — King of Kings and Lord of Lords!

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Olivet Lutheran Church 2100 Bainbridge St, La Crosse, WI 54603, with visitation from Noon until the time of the service.

Gwen was born on September 24, 1939, in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Emil and Inez Doggett. She attended country school and graduated from St. Augustine High School in Austin. She married William Jordan on Dec. 31, 1956. To this union was born four children, Scott, Daniel, Emilyn and Lauri.

Gwen was the "rock" of the family. She was beautiful, intelligent, fun-filled with love for her children. She was always there to help out whenever one of the children needed her. She was there, whether they needed a listening ear or a loving hand. She would spend as much time as it would take to resolve something or share ideas that might help.

Gwen was a woman of Faith and shared that faith with her children, teaching them through the years. She sang to her children and prayed with them. During her lifetime, Gwen suffered many illnesses. She will be remembered as a spirited woman of strength and courage, undying love for her children, her parents and siblings, carrying her cross bravely through everything she endured.

NOTE: there is one line in the obituary that talks about "born May 6, 1862 in Winneshiek" that seems to be misplaced in the article by the typesetter.
