Clark E. "Nick" Braden

1927-2016

Clark E. "Nick" Braden, 89, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away on February 28, 2016.

Nick was born on February 21, 1927, to the late Merle and Dorothy (Pike) Braden in Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1945. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Navy serving proudly in World War II. Upon his discharge, Nick attended Union College in Schenectady, New York, where he received his Bachelors Degree in Economics. One of his proudest moments was participating in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He also looked forward to his Tuesday morning breakfast with his fellow veterans.

Nick worked many years in real estate as a broker before opening Braden Appraisals. He was a past president of the Austin Lions Club, in Austin, Minnesota. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge, the Austin Country Club, and a volunteer with the Egmont Key Alliance.

He loved fishing, hunting, golf, and spending time at Leech Lake in Minnesota. Nick had a great sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Nick was a member of Pass-A-Grille Beach Community Church.

Nick is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Virginia "Ginnie" Braden; son, Richard Paul Braden of Cleveland, Ohio; daughter, Jodi Ann Bolinger and husband, Richard of Albert Lea, Minnesota; sister, Kay Roudon of Palo Alto, California; granddaughter, Sarah Braden, who is currently serving with the Peace Corps in Mozambique, Africa; and many special friends.

Virginia Angela (Wagner) Hangge

1935-2016

Virginia Angela Hangge, 80, of Marine on St. Croix, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 29, 2016, in her family home surrounded by her family.

Virginia was born December 22, 1935, to Michael "Nick" and Margaret (Christie) Wagner in Austin, Minnesota, one of 19 children. She was a 1953 graduate of St. Augustine High School in Austin and attended the University of Minnesota X-ray technician training. Virginia married Edward T. Hangge on June 23, 1956, in Austin. She was a former employee of US Bank in St. Paul. Virginia was a devout Catholic and prayed the Rosary daily. She devoted her life to her family and always put them first.

She was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers and six sisters.

Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Ed; sons, Scott (MaryJo), Tom (Monica), Joe (Michele); daughters, Mary (Pat) Regan, and Jane (Bob) Harris; also 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother Jim (Kay) Wagner; sisters, Jeanne Hermanson, Barbara Burke and Gretchen McNamara; also numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth St., Hastings with Fr. David Hennen and Fr. Robert Hart concelebrating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at church. Private interment will be held in the parish cemetery at a later date. Memorials are preferred.

Jean Marie (Larson) Ryks

1934-2016

Obituary

Jean M. Ryks, age 81, of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, February 25, 2016 at St. Marks Lutheran Home.

Jean Marie Larson was born July 15, 1934 in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Henry and Inez (Jordal) Larson. She grew up in Austin and attended Austin Public Schools. Her training at the Austin Area Vocational Technical Institute prepared her to become a county health aide for Mower County.

On April 30, 1955, Jean married Ben Ryks. The couple raised five children. Ben passed away in 1972. In her leisure time, Jean enjoyed gardening, flowers, outside yardwork, music concerts, bus tours and casino trips. She especially loved the time spent with her family, celebrating everyones' birthday with a big birthday meal. Jean will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her children Verlyn (Suzanne) Ryks of Rose Creek, Minnesota, Larry (Kiola) Ryks of Kansas City, Kansas, Janelle Ryks, Duane (Loie) Ryks, and Kelly Ryks, all of Austin, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Bly and Karen Larson, both of Austin; three brothers Robert (Janet) Larson of Austin, Minnesota, Dick (Jane) Larson of Des Moines, Iowa, and Gary of Minneapolis, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Inez Larson, her husband Ben Ryks, and one brother in infancy.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Richard Larson officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. There will be a visitation held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials can be directed to recipient of donor's choice. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.

David Lee Godwin, age 69 of Austin, died Thursday morning, March 3, 2016 at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center in Austin.

David was born November 18, 1946 in Austin, Minnesota to Robert and Ruby Gladys (Skauge) Godwin. He married LaVonne June Day (Fawn) on June 19, 1976 at the First United Methodist Church in Austin. To this union a daughter Heather was born, whom David cherished. David was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Austin. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 703 since 1983. David worked various jobs including Brown Printing Company in Waseca. He was a gas attendant for Phillips 66 when gas was 30-40 cents a gallon. At times there would be gas wars of 19-25 cents a gallon. In the late 70s and 80s, David worked for Von Ruden Industries in Owatonna until the company folded.

In the 90s David joined Cedar Valley Services driving forklift, and then drove truck until his illness forced him to retire early.

David enjoyed playing horseshoes and having a few beers with his brothers-in-law Farrell and Darrell. He also enjoyed road trips with his brother-in-law Jim just to pick up a few pull tabs. Hmmm…what were you guys up to? David loved to watch NASCAR races. His favorite driver was Tony Stewart. His favorite pastime was watching TV, especially James Bond, Charles Bronson, and Clint Eastwood movies. He loved his cat Caddie, who always slept on his lap, and most of all he loved his wife LaVonne and his daughter Heather. David was also very close with his in-laws.

David is survived by his wife LaVonne of Brownsdale, Minnesota, his daughter Heather, also of Brownsdale; his uncle Norman Skauge of Austin, Minnesota, special cousin Barbara Johnson and family of Austin, who would be there at the drop of a hat; Robert Day of Lyle, Minnesota, who visited him regularly; brother-in-law James (Marilyn) Day of Brownsdale, Minnesota, brother-in-law Farrell (Dawyna) Day of Harlingen, Texas, sister-in-law Carrell Bathke of Wells, Minnesota; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. David joins in Heaven his mother Ruby, dad Robert, two sisters Bonnie and Rose Marie, brother Tommy, aunt Ardis Newman, cousins Bobby and Dennis Newman; in-laws he was close to including Marie, Laurel, Darrell, Dawn, Edgar, niece Michelle, and his beloved cat Caddie. Dave was a kind and gentle giant of a man.

He was a good husband, father, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A special thank you to the wonderful nurses and staff at Comforcare who have taken such great care of David, to Austin Hospice, to the Austin Salvation Army staff and volunteers for the lunch they will be providing, and especially to Chaplain Theresa and Abby for their wonderful comforting visits with David. The family appreciates all of you. Take care and God bless.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Chaplain Theresa Turnbull officiating. Paul Masse, 52

Paul Masse passed from this earthly life on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minneosta. He is free from his struggles and pain.

Paul Philip Masse was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on June 21, 1963, to Philip and Virgene (Novascone) Masse. Several months after Paul's birth, Paul's father took a job at IBM and the family moved to Rochester, Minneosta.

Paul was a very bright child, quiet and kind. He was the second of four children, with an older brother, Michael, and two younger sisters, Joelle and Kathy. While growing up in Rochester, he helped at the family horse farm and stable. Paul was an outstanding student, qualifying as a National Merit Scholar when he graduated from Mayo High School. Paul studied a year at Carleton College in Northfield, Minneosta. He then attended Riverland College in Austin. Paul held down a job at K-Mart while attending Riverland, and was able to earn his associates degree with honors. Paul then attended St. Cloud State. He was a gifted athlete, with tennis as his main sport. Paul loved music and was an accomplished guitar player. His favorite groups were Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac, The Grateful Dead, and the Rolling Stones. Although Paul was quiet, he also had a great sense of humor and could be very entertaining.

Paul worked at Sieman's in Atlanta, Georgia, a number of years. He also worked in maintenance for various inns in Vermont. He moved to Austin in 2005 and worked several years in maintenance at Sacred Heart Nursing Home and then at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

In spite of his many talents, Paul was not able to realize his dreams due to depression and addiction. But he lived his life with courage, and he worked hard to spare his family the suffering he was enduring. Paul had a special heart for the elderly and for the neediest among us. He was kind and caring as evidenced by many comments people have made to us.

Paul was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emmett and Eleanor Masse, Paul and Mayme Novascone; his mother, Virgene Zabarsky; his uncle, Ken Masse; and his step-sister, Ellen Fisch.

Missing Paul are his father, Philip Masse; step-mother, Millie Masse; brother Michael (South Carolina); sisters, Joelle Vanwier (Scott), Arizona, and Kathy Many (Brian), Virginia; step-brother, James Zinnel (Miranda); and step-sister Mary Ann Munro; beloved aunt Judy Masse-Kaffine; uncles Gary Masse, Florida, and Roger Masse, Oregon; cousins; and nieces and nephews.

A service will be held for Paul at a later date.

Fred Justus Hanks

1923-2016

May 15, 1923 -- February 19, 2016

Obituary--

Fred J. Hanks, age 92, of Le Roy, Minnesota, died Friday February 19, 2016, at Spring Valley Senior Living in Spring Valley.

Fred Justus Hanks was born May 15, 1923 in Winnebago, Minnesota. He was the oldest child of six children born to Howard and Ethel (Buck) Hanks. He graduated from Mapleton High School in Mapleton, Minnesota, in 1941 and on March 1, 1945 purchased the family farm near Le Roy, Minnesota. In April of that same year he entered the United States Army. He attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning Georgia and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant assigned to the 88th Division stationed in Trieste in Italy. Fred was discharged in May of 1947. He returned to the farm in Le Roy where he spent the rest of his life.

On July 13, 1952 he was united in marriage to Donna Fossum in Waukon, Iowa and together they had 3 sons, Darrell, Rob and Neil.

Fred served as treasurer on the Beaver Township Board for 50 years retiring in 2009. He was a member of the Fillmore County Township Officer Board serving as Chair for several years. He was also a member of the Board of Directors for the LeRoy Co-Op from 1978 to 1992 and served on the Bloomfield Mutual Insurance Board for many years retiring in 2004. He was also elected to the Fillmore County FSA Board where he served for many years. Fred was also a founding member of the Ambulance Council helping organize and purchase the first ambulance for the Le Roy Ambulance Association.

Fred is survived by children; Darrell (Darla) Hanks of Forest City, Iowa, Rob Hanks of LeRoy, Minnesota, and Neil (Donna J.) Hanks of LeRoy, Minnesota; three grandsons, Paul (Andrea) Hanks, John (Casey Yang) Hanks, and Nick (Emily) Hanks; two step grandsons, Matt (Jesse) Tindall and Marty Tindall; four great-grandchildren; Breckan, Natalie, Sydney and Owen Hanks; three step great-grandchildren; Gavin and Gaige and Charlie Tindall, siblings Marilyn Wells of Le Sauer, Minnesota, Hildreth Wilson of Dayton, Ohio and John Hanks of Chillicothe, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Donna in March of 2014; brother Bruce Hanks; sister Lorraine Westfall;and step brother Merrill Chesebrough.

Graveside committal service will be held at 12 noon Saturday February 27, 2016 at Bethlehem Cemetery Beaver Township Fillmore County, Minnesota. Visitation will follow from 1:oo pm until 3:30 pm at the Hindt Funeral Home in Le Roy.

Richard Carlyle "Dick" Guckeen

1938-2016

Richard "Dick" C. Guckeen, 78, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota, Friday, March 4, 2016, surrounded by his family.

Richard Carlyle Guckeen was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Austin, Minnesota, to Lawrence and Margaret (Mayer) Guckeen. He attended school in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1955. On June 4, 1982, Dick married Julie Munson at Crane Chapel in Austin, Minnesota.

Dick worked for the Mower County Highway Department for 33 years and Austin Cab and Ambulance for 37 years as an EMT. He volunteered for over 30 years at the Mower County Chapter American Red Cross, where, with Gerald Dimit and Norman Sollie, he started the local CPR training program. The trio received the Mower County Chapter Volunteer of the Year Award in 1986. Dick received the National Merit Award, the highest honor for saving a life, from the Mower County Chapter. He also worked for a short time at the Austin Daily Herald.

He loved being around people, especially when it involved helping others. Model railroading was a passion of his. Since retiring, he kept busy golfing, bowling at Echo Lanes and playing cards at the Mower County Senior Center. He enjoyed his morning breakfasts with the crew at McDonald's and was a regular at Kenny's Oak Grill. Those were times he didn't like to miss. He truly loved volunteering at Austin Medical Center, working at the front desk, escorting patients, gathering wheelchairs, greeting and helping those entering the Clinic. He greeted everyone with a smile.

Dick touched the lives of many in Austin but always felt as if he was the one who was touched.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Julie Guckeen of Austin; son, Jeff Guckeen of Minneapolis; brother, Steve (Joan) Guckeen of Champlin, Minnesota; mother-in-law, Shirley Munson of Hollandale; sisters-in-law, Cheryl (Rich) Howard of Hollandale, Minnesota, and Linda (Jeff) Mullenbach of Glencoe, Minnesota; cousins; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents.

Friends and family may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016, at Mayer Funeral Home, 600 Second St. NW, Austin, Minnesota, and after the service at the luncheon. The celebration of Dick's life will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1600 West Oakland Avenue, Austin, Minnesota, with Pastor Karen Behling officiating. Obituary for Donna Mae Novak

Donna Mae (Ugland) Novak, age 72, of Austin, died Monday, March 7, 2016, at St. Marks Lutheran Home.

Donna was born December 14, 1943, in Lake Mills, Iowa, to Nels J. and Clara E. (Larson) Ugland. She grew up in Albert Lea, Minnesota where she graduated from high school.

On June 6, 1964, she married Gene J. Novak, of Austin, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church. The couple has resided in Austin for 52 years. Donna worked as a Customer Service Manager at Kmart for seven years, along with various retail positions. Donna enjoyed gardening, her cats, and being with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Gene J. Novak, Austin, Minnesota; sons, Wade J. Novak, Austin, Minnesota, Michael G. Novak, Austin, Minnesota; daughter, Sheila K. (Novak) Endres, Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren: Joshua Novak, Ashley Ozuna, Corey Novak, Drew Novak, Gavin Larson, Jeffrey Novak, Amanda Novak, Tyler Endres, Michael Endres, Lauren Endres; seven great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Marlin and Merth Ugland, Albert Lea, Minnesota; sister, Karen Finlayson, Council Bluffs, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Clara Ugland; brothers, Leslie Ugland and Norman Ugland.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 pm on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Mayer Funeral Home with Chaplain Elizabeth Endicott officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Friday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.

Ruth Helen (Edge) Jensen

1921-2016

Ruth Helen Jensen, 94, passed away on March 5, 2016, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota.

Ruth was born on November 26, 1921, the daughter of Maurice and Louisa (Tesch) Edge in Rock Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Anton Jensen on January 7, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Parsonage in Hayfield. They celebrated 50 years together and lived in Sargeant most of that time. Ruth worked at many jobs over the years. She was an elementary school cook, home care aide, sales clerk at the Sargeant Coop, and cleaning lady in Rochester. She made many quilts, enjoyed crafting, researched genealogy, and collected stamps and coins. Reading was a passion of hers. She also served in many capacities at her church.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Michael) Fossum, St. Cloud, Minnesota; one granddaughter, Kari (Nick) Eagle, Leavenworth, Kansas; and one great-granddaughter, Gloriana Eagle. She is survived by her brothers, Charles and David Edge, Stewartville, Minnesota, James (Marian) Edge, Grand Meadow, Minnesota; one sister, Shirley Bethke, Brighton, Colorado; and triplet brothers, Jene, Jay, and Jerry Hinrichs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anton; and three brothers, Myron, Kenneth, and Maurice Edge.

The family would like to express special thanks to Field Crest Care Center and Good Shepherd Lutheran Home for the loving care given over the years.

The funeral service for Ruth Helen Jensen will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Evanger Lutheran Church 33554 — 660th Avenue, rural Sargeant, Minnesota, with the Rev. Dwight DoBell officiating. Interment will be in Evanger Lutheran Church Cemetery, Minnesota. Friends and family may call at 1 p.m. on Wednesday for visitation prior to the service. Robert Jerome Kottner

1941-2016

Robert Jerome Kottner, age 74 of Austin, Minnesota died Saturday morning, March 5, 2016, at the Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.

He was born May 21, 1941, in Austin, Minnesota the son of Alfred and Jean (Rudesill) Kottner. He attended school in Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1959. Robert proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a Medic and was awarded the Bronze Star. After his discharge, he returned to Austin and worked at Streator's in Albert Lea and later with Weyerhaeuser in Austin, retiring form Weyerhaeuser after forty years.

He was a good trap and skeet shooter and competed in shooting competitions in Minnesota, Iowa, Arizona and other states. He was a member of the Cedar Valley Conservation Club and the Moose Lodge. Robert also followed sports in Minnesota, especially the Twins and Vikings.

Survivors include his sister, Jacqueline Kottner; two brothers, William Kottner and Jim Kottner all of Austin, Minnesota; a nephew, Jesse (Shannon) Kottner of Eagan and his children, Natalie and Annaliese; also many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Jean Kottner.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Military Honors by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216 will follow the service.

Ellen Johnson

Died: March 06, 2016

The funeral service for Ellen Johnson, will be 11:00 Thursday, March 10, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Brownsdale, Minnesota, with Pastor Ken Petzold officiating. Interment will be in Waltham Township Cemetery in rural Waltham.

Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home 501, 2nd Street NW in Hayfield, Minnesota.

Ellen was born on March 16, 1930, the daughter of Glenn and Rena Johnson of Waltham, Minnesota. She attended rural school in Waltham Township, continuing High School in Austin, and a year of Teachers Training followed by teaching in Oakland, Sargeant and Waltham. She then attended Mankato State Teachers College to complete her degree. She then taught in Northfield, and completing her 41 years in Austin for 25 years.

On Sunday afternoon, March 6, 2016, she went to be with her Savior at Our House in Austin. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, quilting, hand work, crafts, entertaining family and friends, cooking and baking. Ellen was a member of The First Baptist Church of Brownsdale, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher and active in the Ladies Missionary Group. Ellen was a member of the local area and State Teachers Group, Retired Educator Group, and a member of the Waltham Project Group, Brownsdale Study Club and Delta Kappa Gama.

Ellen is survived by two brothers, Wayne and Lowell Johnson, Waltham, Minnesota; one sister, Mildred Johnson, Brownsdale, Minnesota, and one sister-in-law, Lillian Johnson, Ankeny, Iowa; two nieces, Marlene (Bob) Heinz, LaSalle, Illinois; Linda (Arlie) Brandmeyer, Ankeny, Iowa; nephew, Wesley (Dondee) Johnson, Sargeant, Minnesota; great nephew Bryce (Krista Sommerfield) Johnson, Stewartville, Minnesota; great-niece and nephew Sydney and Aaron Brandmeyer; Ankeny, Iowa; great-great nieces, Kelsey and Carly; and great-great-nephew, Lucas-Johnson, Stewartville, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Neil Johnson.

William David Sitzman

1970-2016

William David Sitzman, 46, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at his home.

William David was born Feb. 17, 1970, in Wells, Minnesota, the son of David and Nancy (Reinlasoder) Sitzman. William graduated from Kiester High School, and went on to attend Mankato State University for two years where he studied engineering. He enjoyed farming alongside his father, and loved playing the guitar. He was a collector of many things, including farm toys. William had a sweet smile and a big heart, and was a gentle and kind man.

William is survived by his father, David; brother, Lyle; aunts, uncles; cousins and other friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and mother Nancy.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Dell Lutheran Church 47500 97th St., Frost, Minnesota. Visitation was Monday, March 7, 2016, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, Minnesota. Interment was at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Kiester, Minnesota. Norman Duane Jacobson

Obituary--

Norman Duane Jacobson, 80, passed away on March 9, 2016, at his home in Grand Meadow surrounded by loving family.

Norman was born December 29, 1935, to Ein­er and Nina (Stearns) Jacobson. Norm grew up on a farm just outside of Grand Meadow. He graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1962 and in 1964 married Shirley Annette Qui­rin. They raised six children together. Norm attended Barber College and was a barber for 42 years. Norm and Shirley divorced. He took schooling for his boiler license and worked as a custodian for the Grand Meadow school for 14 years while maintaining his Barber Shop until he retired in 2001.

In March of 1986, he married Beverly Grace Fretty and together they enjoyed 30 wonderful years as husband and wife. Norm enjoyed traveling to visit his family and outdoor activities such as camping, hunting and fishing, four-wheeling, cross country skiing and hiking.

He is survived by his wife Beverly, five children; David (Virginia) of Manhatten, California, Patricia of Waseca, Robert (Terrie) of Rochester, Jerome (Andrea) of Svea, and Joel (Brenda) of Stewartville. Three step-children Joseph, of Grand Meadow, Mark (Arlene) of Byron, and Mary (Randy) Derry of Spring Valley, Wisconsin, 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, sister, Beverly Thorson, and niece, Deborah Gruenhagen of Willmar, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his son Jeffery and step-grandson David L. Fretty and step-great-grandson David E. Fretty.

A time of remembrance will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 1 p.m. at the Bear Creek Lutheran Church in Grand Meadow with a memorial service following at 2 p.m.

Virginia Maxine Friedrich Thomas, 98, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, passed away at St. John's Lutheran Community in Albert Lea, Minnesota, on March 7, 2016.

Virginia was born on December 22, 1917, in Dickens, Iowa, to Harriet Ann (Mayes) and Harry Ernest Rideout. She graduated from Austin High School in 1937. She was united in marriage to Gustaf August William Friedrich in Canton, South Dakota, on Oct. 15, 1938. They had three children: Rodney William, Roger Anthony and Rachelle LaZette. This marriage was dissolved in 1965. She married Leonard Wieczorek in 1971 and they divorced in 1980. On June 22, 1984, she married Donald Eugene Thomas in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Don passed away on March, 31, 1985, but not before he and Virginia created many happy memories together camping in Lanesboro, Minnesota.

During her working career she was employed in various positions including many years at Hormel, in Austin, Minnesota, and at the Freeborn County Register of Deeds as a deputy clerk. She retired from Freeborn County on June 29, 1984.

She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, in Albert Lea, Minnesota. She was a proud member of the Auxiliary of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Airie No. 703, Audubon Society, Genealogy Society, Albert Lea Garden Club and State Line Polka Lovers. She was a Gray Lady volunteer at St. Olaf Hospital and also at the Red Cross Mobile Blood Bank both in Austin, Minnesota.

Throughout her life she enjoyed many hobbies including polka dancing, genealogy, camping, fishing, wedding photography, sharing stories about her life adventures, and spending time with her beloved pets. She was and avid reader and book collector. She was proud to have lived independently in her own home with her pets until the age of 91.

Virgina is survived by her daughter Rachelle LaZette (Darrell) Cafourek, Albert Lea, Minnesota, and their children, Shawn (David) Anderson, Cindy (Jarett) Schiebel, Heather (Aaron) Hamilton; son Rodney (Sandra) Friedrich of Austin, Minnesota, and their daughter Lisa (Steve) Johnson; and son Roger (Carol) Friedrich of Commerce City, Colorado, and their children Jill (Clayton) Daughtrey, Terry Friedrich. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald E. Thomas; brother Harlen E. Rideout and his wife Dorthy; brother Robert Franklin Rideout; infant sisters, Dorthea Maxyne and Pauline Maxyne; and grandson, Troy Friedrich.

Services will be held at Bonnerup Funeral Home in Albert, Lea, Minnesota, on Friday, March 11, 2016, at 11 a.m. Friends my visit one hour before the service. Pastor Aaron Hamilton and Pastor James Kassera will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Albert Lea, Minnesota.

May she rest in peace with the Lord.

Robert William Bawek

1924-2016

Robert William Bawek, 91, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Our House Memory Care.

He was born December 16, 1924, in Rose Creek, Minnesota, the son of Benjamin and Theresa Bawek. He attended country school through the eighth grade. On Sept. 29, 1944, Robert and Claire Nelson were united in marriage in Austin. The couple raised five children. Claire passed away in November 2009. Bob worked for Hormel Foods for 39 years. A member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church, he also belonged to the Moose Lodge and the Eagles Club. Bob enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, gardening, and he liked old cars. He took great pride in his lawn. In 2011, he moved to Our House Memory Care.

Bob is survived by his daughters, Nancy Haney of Austin, Minnesota, Sue (Bruce) Marlin of Rosemount, Minnesota, JoAnne (Mike) Goodnight of Buffalo Center, Iowa; his sons, Ron (Fay) Bawek of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, John Bawek of Dillon, Colorado; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; his sister Darlene; and brothers, Leo, Mel, and Luverne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Claire; one sister and three brothers.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Father Dale Tupper officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Worlein Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Philip was born in Austin, Minnesota, on March 2, 1953 to Sigmund and Vera (Hanson) Eirikson. He attended Austin High School and lived in Austin most of his life. In 1974 he voluntarily enlisted in the U.S Air Force. He worked as a Cement Mason in the Local #633 for many years until his retirement. His passion was fishing, hunting and especially his grandchildren. He left behind many good friends and will be missed by his boys -- Red and Stormy (Horses).

Philip was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, step father, sister, and a nephew.

Stanley Hubbard Fink, age 89, of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Comforcare.

Stanley was born in Austin, Minnesota on December 1, 1926 to Stanley and Bethel (Hubbard) Fink. He graduated from Austin High School in 1945. He joined the U.S. Army and served from 1945 to 1946 and again from 1950 to 1953. On June 23, 1957 he married Elaine Wellendorf in Luverne, Minnesota. Stan was a postal carrier for over 35 years and retired in 1986.

He was a member of 1st Congregational Church in Austin, Cross Lake Presbyterian Church, and the American Legion Austin Post #91.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine, son Jonathan, and his parents.

Stan is survived by his daughter: Sarah Fink, Austin, Minnesota; brothers: Warren (Shirley) Fink, Leander, Texas; Jerry (Elaine) Fink, Princeton, Minnesota; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 13th, at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with the Reverend Shari Mason officiating. Inurnment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary for one hour before the service.

Shirley Louise (Lea) Knutson

1923-2016

Shirley Louise Lea was born February 12, 1923, in Newry Township, Minnesota, the daughter of Alvin H. and Pauline (Peterson) Lea. She attended country school District 111 and graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1940. A lifelong resident of Blooming Prairie, Shirley worked at various businesses in the area over the years. On April 30, 1954, she was united in marriage to Charles Knutson at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church. The couple raised three children. Shirley was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie, and active in the Sons of Norway. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed caring for and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children, Dean Knutson of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, and Kristal (Doug) Paulson of Albert Lea, Minnesota; granddaughter Brooke Paulson, also of Albert Lea; sisters-in-law, Doris Lea and Sharon Lea, both of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Donald Yentsch of Blooming Prairie; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Pauline Lea; her husband Charles Knutson in 2011; son Paul in 1973; and brothers, Marvin "Mike" Lea and Kenneth Lea; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Knutson, Elayne Yentsch and Phyllis Anderson; brothers-in-law, Ordell Knutson and Gerth Anderson.

Loraine L. Johnson, age 96, of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the Stewartville Care Center in Stewartville, Minnesota surrounded by her family.

Loraine L. Thorson was born February 2, 1920 in Bennington Township, Mower County, Minnesota, to Bernard and Amanda (Miland) Thorson. She attended country school until the 8th grade. On April 5, 1942, Loraine was united in marriage to Kenneth Johnson at the Lutheran parsonage in Adams, Minnesota. Together, Loraine and Kenneth farmed and raised five children in rural Grand Meadow. Loraine enjoyed gardening, baking, reading, and word puzzles. She was a great cook and will be remembered for her lefsa at the Root River Antique Historical Power Association Show. Loraine was a wonderful wife and great mother. She was an active member of the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church and was also a Golden Age member.

Loraine is survived by her children: Donna (Connie) Hoffman of Byron, Minnesota, Sheryl (Bob) Fischer of Cannon Falls, Minnesota, Linda (Pat) Cummings of Lake City, Minnesota, Annette (Eric) Hjelter of Rochester, Minnesota, and Brian (Debbie) Johnson of Grand Meadow, Minnesota; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Maxine Runkle of Stewartville, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Pauline (Thorson) King of Ostrander, Minnesota and DeVera Yonkovich of Onalaska, Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Roger (Ila) Johnson of Grand Meadow, Minnesota; and many loved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Amanda; husband, Kenneth, in 2002; granddaughter, Amy Lynn; one sister, and three brothers.

Renato Andres Parada

1962-2016

Renato Andres Parada, 53, of Austin, Minnesota, and Tucson, Arizona, died at 8:11 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at his summer home in Austin.

He was born October 28, 1962, in Santiago, Chile, the son of Renato Parada and Raquel Parada Cangas. Renato attended The Grange British Academy in Santiago. He received his business degree from St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida.

He met Kathryn Redding on a cruise while she was traveling with her mother and he with a priest, and they were married on June 15, 1985, in Miami. Though Renato spent over half of his life in the United States and cherished his time here, his heart was forever Chilean. Renato started his produce career at International Multifoods in Minneapolis, Minnesota, then pursued further opportunities in California and Arizona before he founded RP Distributing in Nogales, Arizona, in 1999. His company, through the loyal support of his employees, growers and buyers, is still operating today.

A man of faith and family, Renato set an example for strength and honor. His influences extended to many, teaching the balance of discipline, integrity and class, all while keeping in touch with your inner child. Renato was a competitive man and lifetime athlete, enjoying soccer, rugby, tennis and golf. He represented Chile in the Jr. World Golf Championship for two years. Favorite pastimes included good food, Chilean wine and tall tales. Renato also enjoyed a good Barcelona soccer match, traveling, entertaining, mountain views, sunsets over the ocean in Santo Domingo, Chile, and being surrounded by family.

Survivors include his wife Kathryn Parada of Austin, Minnesota; his five children, Renato James of Portland, Oregon, Andres William and Nicolas Addison, both of Tucson, Arizona, Matias Paul and Priscilla Raquel, both of Austin, Minnesota; his mother; three sisters, Mane´, Andrea, and Teresa; and one brother Cristian.

Renato was preceded in death by his father.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin with Father James Steffes officiating. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Future memorial services will be held this spring in Nogales, Arizona, and at a later date in Santo Domingo, Chile. Michael Bernard "Mike" Wendel

1949-2016

Michael "Mike" Wendel, 67, of Chester, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016, at his home.

Michael Bernard Wendel was born Jan. 15, 1949, in Austin, Minnesota, to Bernard and Juletta (Bissen) Wendel. He was a 1968 graduate of the Cresco High School in Cresco, Iowa. After high school, Mike was a semi driver for seven years. On March 2, 1974, Mike was united in marriage to Karen Johnson. He then worked at Hormel in Austin, Minnesota, for 30 years, retiring in 2012. Mike enjoyed riding motorcycles, Harley Davidson, playing cards with his friends, hunting, fishing, and going to sales, garage sales, antique sales, and auctions.

Mike is survived by his wife, Karen of Chester, Iowa; brother-in-law, Reed (Leslie) Johnson of LeRoy, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Jane (Rick) Ullom of Chester, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; father, Bernard Wendel of Chester, Iowa; and brother, Jeff (Pam) Wendel of Chester, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his mother; sister; and brother.

Died: March 09, 2016

Robert G. Lonergan, 85 of Dexter, Minnesota, died at his home Wednesday, March 9, 2016.

Robert was born March 30, 1930 in Osage, Iowa, the son of Charles and Ruth (Gunsallus) Lonergan. He attended school at Osage and married Jean Heydeman on July 12, 1952 at Colona, Illinois. Robert was a lifelong farmer and for the past 52 years the Lonergans lived and farmed at Dexter, Minnesota.

Robert loved spending time with his family. He was a collector of John Deere memorabilia and enjoyed watching NASCAR races.

He was preceded in death by his son, Michael, his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Robert is survived by his wife Jean Lonergan, Dexter, Minnesota; daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Bob Stocks, Dexter, Minnesota; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary Lonergan, Brownsdale, Minnesota, Duane and Amy Lonergan, Austin, Minnesota, Randy and Jill Lonergan, Dexter, Minnesota, Glenn and Michelle Lonergan, Dexter, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Lori Brennen, Rochester, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; sister, Catherine Estregren, Apple Valley, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Grace Lonergan, Mason City, Iowa and Laura Lonergan, Charles City, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, March 15th at the Adams Funeral Home with Father Swaminatha Pothireddy officiating. Interment will be at Dexter Cemetery. Todd A. Grosland

1964-2016

Todd A. Grosland, 51, died Feb. 27, 2016, in his apartment in Freemont, Nebraska.

Todd was born September 30, 1964, to Virgil and Kathryn (Mentel) Grosland. He attended schools in Northwood-Kensett, Iowa, Austin, Minnesota, and Freemont, Nebraska, and graduated from Freemont High School in 1983.

Todd worked at National Computer Systems, Owatonna School District, and Mustang in Owatonna. He went back to school to earn his LPN degree, then went on to work for Traditions, Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna, then later at a home health care agency in Freemont.

He is survived by his sisters, Mary Grosland of Owatonna, Minnesota, Teresa (Daryl) Frost of Delano, Minnesota, and Valerie Madsen of Freemont, Nebraska; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Todd was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Kathryn Grosland; and his brother Mark Grosland.

A celebration of Todd's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Christian Family Church, 2300 Heritage Place, NW, Owatonna, located right next to Cabela's. Coffee, cakes and bars will be served after the service. Todd was cremated, and internment will be at St. Theodore's Cemetery in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

She was born January 20, 1927 in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Louis and Mable (Harris) Cafourek. She attended elementary school in London, Minnesota and graduated from Lyle High School. After graduation, she attended nurses' training at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minnesota. She worked as a nurse and later for Hormel Foods in the ham trimming area, retiring in 1981.

She married Quinten Leidal on March 23, 1947 and they were later divorced. She enjoyed cats and gardening. She was very interested in her family genealogy and loved to attend family reunions. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Austin.

Survivors include her children, Steven Leidal of Austin, Mike (Karen) Leidal of Austin, Bob Leidal of Claremont, Jayne (Gary) Nash of Austin and Jerry Leidal of Austin; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a grandson, Jason Leidal.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, March 17, 2016, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Robert Bailey officiating. Interment will follow the service in Woodbury Cemetery near Lyle, Minnesota. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.

Obituary

Robert L. "Bob" Sikkink, age 83 of Austin, died Saturday, March 12, 2016.

Bob was born July 28, 1932 in Preston, Minnesota to John and Norma (TerBeest) Sikkink. He attended the Stone School in Cherry Grove, Minnesota, and high school in Ridgeway, Iowa. Bob served his country as a member of the United States Navy Air Corp from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1954. He returned home and on November 19, 1955 was united in marriage to Meredith Brenna in Mabel, Minnesota.

For the first 13 years of his career Bob worked at the Rochester Airport. In 1967 they moved to Austin where Bob managed the Austin Airport and ran his own flying service, "The Flying Dutchman," until 1979. For several years he continued to do the grounds keeping at the airport, a job he held for 40 years. In 1986 Bob opened Austin Power Equipment which he operated until his retirement in 2010. He was a longtime member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin and had been active in various groups including American Legion Post 91, VFW Post 1216, Moose Lodge 1180, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 703, and Elks Lodge 414. Bob enjoyed the Midwest, going to the river, and reading. He loved to fly, and spent much of his time tinkering with mowers.

Bob is survived by his children Robert (Karen) Sikkink of Rochester, Gretchen Sikkink of Austin, Nanette (Tim) Sellers of Austin, David Sikkink of Owatonna, Daniel Sikkink of Austin, and Amy (Mike) Fossey of Austin; his nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and siblings: Nathan Sikkink of Rochester, Carla Barr of Eagan, Lance (Diane) Sikkink of Spring Valley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Meredith in 2001; brothers Thomas and Phillip; sister-in-law Mary Sikkink.

1951-2016

Steven "Spike" Jones, age 64, of Spring Valley, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Steven Hollis Jones was born December 25, 1951 in Riceville, Iowa, to Clarence and Donna (Templeton) Jones. He was a 1970 graduate of the LeRoy High School in LeRoy, Minnesota. After high school, Spike worked at the LeRoy Lumber Yard until 1994. On June 9, 1979, Spike was united in marriage to Kay Sigman at the LeRoy Lutheran Church. Spike also worked at the FCLM in Spring Valley from 2001 until 2003. Spike enjoyed hunting with his dad, fishing, and woodworking. He was an animal caretaker and an avid Coca Cola collector. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their events.

Spike is survived by his wife, Kay of Spring Valley, Minnesota; daughter, Amy (Jeremy) Swanson of Grand Meadow, Minnesota; grandchildren, Donovan and Nevaeh; and siblings, Mike (Sandy) Jones of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, Jeaneen (Bob) Lindeland of Nashua, Iowa, and John Jones of LeRoy, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Donna and aunts and uncles.

Michael "Mike" Wendel, age 67, of Chester, Iowa, passed away, Thursday, March 10, 2016 at his home.

Michael Bernard Wendel was born January 15, 1949 in Austin, Minnesota, to Bernard and Juletta (Bissen) Wendel. He was a 1968 graduate of the Cresco High School in Cresco, Iowa. After high school, Mike was a semi driver for seven years. On March 2, 1974, Mike was united in marriage to Karen Johnson. He then worked at Hormel in Austin, Minnesota, for 30 years, retiring in 2012. Mike enjoyed riding motorcycles, Harley Davidson, playing cards with his friends, hunting, fishing, and going to sales, garage sales, antique sales, and auctions.

Mike is survived by his wife, Karen of Chester, Iowa; brother-in-law, Reed (Leslie) Johnson of LeRoy, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Jane (Rick) Ullom of Chester, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; father, Bernard Wendel of Chester, Iowa; and brother, Jeff (Pam) Wendel of Chester, Iowa.

The memorial service for Suzane Marie Naylor will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2016, at the Hayfield American Legion in Hayfield. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the family.

Suzane "Susie" "Sissy" M. Naylor 47, of Waltham, Minnesota, died on February 3, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle of cervical cancer.

Suzane Marie Phillips was born on October 24, 1968, the daughter of Ed and Maretta "Terry" (Cole) Clauson in Kansas City, Kansas. Susie graduated from Olathe Kansas High School. She worked as a waitress, nursing assistant and trained medication aid.

On November 16, 1990, she was united in marriage to Brett Naylor. They made their home in the Waltham area. Susie enjoyed fishing, motorcycling, quilting, cross stitching, sewing and embroidering. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and attending bonfires with them. Her passion was being a grandmother to her grandchildren who call her "Grandma JoJo."

Susie is survived by her husband, Brett Naylor, Waltham, Minnesota; children, Justina Naylor, Waltham, Minnesota; Terra (Bryce) Goar, Stewartville, Minnesota; William Naylor; Shayn Naylor; Kaytlynn (Christopher) Aker, all of Waltham, Minnesota; grandchildren, Wyatt, Colt and Nathan; parents, Ed and Terry Clauson of Tonganoxie, Kansas; sister, Carrie (Kenny) Hinz, Gillette, Wyoming; brother, Brian Phillips, Kansas City, Kansas; many nieces and nephews; and the Naylor Family.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Kaylynn Clauson; and father-in-law, Allen Naylor.

Galen L. Williamson, 66, of Austin, Minnesota died Thursday March 10, 2016, at his home.

Galen Lee was born March 20,1949, in Austin, Minnesota to Lawrence and Beverly (Ellston) Williamson. Galen attended Austin schools, and was working for Kolb Bakery in Austin. Galen continued as a baker in Albert Lea for several years before moving to Denver, Colorado. He returned to Austin, and began his career as a commercial glazier. In 1985 he met his future wife. Galen was united in marriage on May 3, 1986 to Melodie Meyer. Galen and Melodie later divorced but remained close friends until his passing. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Four years ago Galen was proud to have finally become a "Harley Owner!" Galen was known for baking wonderful bread and lefse. He loved his nieces and nephews, and time spent with his cats, especially Marguerite.

Galen is survived by Melodie Williamson of Austin; siblings Carol (Laurlyn “Bub”) Lau of Glenville, Robert (Isabel) Williamson of Aurora, Colorado, Joanne (Robert) Bastyr of Austin; nieces and nephews Lisa Klooster of Des Moines, Iowa, Lori Poole of Glenville, Chad Lau of Glenville, Jennifer Hernandez of Austin, Kimberly Bastyr of Austin, Vincent Williamson of Arvada, CO, Abigail Wilmes of Colorado Springs, CO; former brother-in-law Mike Meyer of Austin and his sons Joshua and John; former father-in-law and mother-in-law Alvin and Ramona Meyer of Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents, paternal and maternal grandparents, and brother Lawrence in infancy.

Elizabeth Louise (Miller) Corcoran

Obituary

Elizabeth L. "Betty Lou" Corcoran, age 82 of Austin, Minnesota passed away Monday March 14, 2016 at Our House Memory Care after a lengthy illness.

Elizabeth Louise Miller was born February 3, 1934 in Austin, the daughter of Gottlieb J. and Anna (Farkes) Miller. She was a 1952 graduate of Leroy High School. In April of 1955 Betty was married to Eugene Corcoran at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Leroy, Minnesota. To this union seven children were born. After many years, the couple divorced. Betty was a longtime member of St. Augustine Parish in Austin, and although she did not like fishing, bowling, golfing or swimming, she did like to read, sew, do crafts and tend to her rose bushes. Betty was an excellent cook. Her favorite pastime was having coffee with her family and friends.

Survivors include her seven children, Michael Corcoran of High Forest, Minnesota, Rhonda (Dean) Baldner of Austin, Minnesota, Lana Corcoran and Dennis Corcoran, both of Sheridan, Wyoming, Kellie (Dave) Shinkle of Grover, Wyoming, Lynne (Kellie) Corcoran-Zubke of Sargeant, Minnesota, Patrick Corcoran of Minneapolis, Minnesota; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters Patricia Henthorne of N. St. Paul, Minnesota, and Sally (Bill) Regan of Owatonna, Minnesota.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Gottlieb and Anna Miller, her brothers Richard Miller and Robert Miller, and her sisters Rose Isferding and Sharon Brozik.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2016 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin with Father James Steffes officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon - 2:00 p.m. Friday at the church, immediately preceding the service. Interment will be held privately at a later date. Larry Bruce Sabanish

December 22, 1949 - March 12, 2016

Larry Bruce Sabanish, age 66, of Austin, died Saturday, March 12, 2016 at his home, the Cedars of Austin.

Larry was born December 22, 1949 in Austin to John and Gladys (Libor) Sabanish, the youngest of eight children. He graduated from Pacelli High School and attended Austin Vocational School. Larry was drafted into the Army on August 18, 1969 and served in Vietnam with the 101 1st Airborne Division. Larry was very proud to have served his country in the military and a was a true lifetime veteran, appreciative of his country and attending as many veteran memorial events as possible.

Larry was married to Diane Jean Tapp on April 14, 1973 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin. To this union a son was born, Chad Bruce Sabanish. They were later divorced but, remained friends until Diane passed away on December 24, 2015.

Larry enjoyed his long time career as a cook, many years at Kenny's Oak Grill, until his failing health no longer allowed him to work. He enjoyed sharing his cooking knowledge with family and friends.

After he suffered a stroke in 2007, Larry was later employed by Cedar Valley Services. He had a great love of the outdoors dating back to his early childhood, spending time with his parents bullhead fishing, camping with friends, and passing his love and interest of fishing, nature and the outdoors onto his son, Chad, who shared that his dad was the greatest teacher. Larry had a group of life long buddies and with them enjoyed a great poker game, drinking a few beers, and sharing many good times. Despite his failing vision, using a magnifying glass, he enjoyed reading and discussing what he had read, be it the daily paper or fishing and hunting magazines.

Larry was a humble and caring man; his close friend, Dick, stating he would give you the shirt off his back. He was always grateful, never failing to express his gratitude for even the simplest things and lived a life of simplicity. Larry had an unconditional love for his son, Chad, and enjoyed the occasional visit from his grandchildren, Jordan and Cole.

Survivors include his son, Chad (Jennifer) Sabanish, Austin, Minnesota; grandchildren, Jordan and Cole Sabanish; step grandchildren, Alesha, Kellijo, and Adam Stigney; sisters, Joan (Wayne) Skov, Lyle, Minnesota, Mona (Verdon) Olson, Spring Grove, Minnesota, Delores (Robert) Neshiem, Mazeppa, Minnesota, Margary Danielson, Grand Meadow, Minnesota; brother, Donald (Doris) Sabanish, Maple Park, IL; several nieces and nephews; and close friends.

Welcoming him into Heaven are his parents; brothers, Jackie and Gary; nephew, Raymond; former wife, Diane; brother-in-law, Bob; close friends, Sandy and Tim.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:00 am on Monday, March 21, 2016, at St. Edwards Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Interment with military honors will be in the Minnesota State Cemetery in Preston, Minnesota (Larry's old fishing ground.)

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Inger Hanson

Inger Hanson died March 13, 2016, at Sacred Heart Care Center.

She was born in Turtle Lake, North Dakota, one of six children.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Smiley and Marcia Hanson, Austin, Minnesota; Dennis and Anne Hanson, Austin, Minnesota; Karen Harrington, Austin, Minnesota; Dana and Alan Kingsbury, Plainview, Minnesota; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her brother Everett Lee survived her by eight days and passed on March 21, 2016. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and sister-in-law, Delores Lee of Missoula, Montana.

Preceding her were her parents Elmer and Clara Lee; husband Arthur Hanson; son-in-law, Gary Harrington; grandson Jeff Brown; brothers Norman and Elmer; sisters Ruth and Lillian.

A family graveside service was held April 15, 2016, at Grandview Cemetery. Bless her memory. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
