Patricia Kathryn Piper 1934-2016
Patricia Kathryn Piper, 81, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died on
Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at Cottagewood Senior Community in Rochester.
Pat was born in Delavan, Minnesota, on July 16, 1934, to C.I. "Spike"
and Geneva (Tibodeau) Piper. She grew up in Blue Earth and graduated from
Blue Earth High School in 1952. Pat graduated with a Bachelor's degree in
Elementary Education from the College of St. Teresa in Winona, Minnesota.
She earned her Masters degree in Religious Education from The Catholic
University of America in Washington, D.C.
Pat was a Franciscan Sister for 22 years, who was a primary teacher and
taught grade school at St. Augustine in Austin, St. Francis in Rochester,
and several other parishes in Southern Minnesota. She also taught courses
at Riverland College in Austin. Pat was the director of the Christian
Education Center in Austin from 1968-1994.
In 1982, Pat was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives
and won re-election in 1984. In 1986, she was elected to the Minnesota
Senate and served there until 2001.
Pat cared deeply for children, the homeless, the poor and downtrodden.
She was a great speaker who was humbled by her numerous invitations to
speak at events.
Pat is survived by her siblings: Paul Piper of Minneapolis, Paulette
Schwen of Apple Valley, Pierre Piper of Minneapolis, Preston (Lois) Piper
of Minneapolis, Paige (Betsy) Piper of Virginia; sister-in-law, Marinez
Soares Piper of Brazil; along with many nieces and nephews.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents; sister Tressa Piper OSF;
brothers: Padric and Philip Piper; grandparents: Oliver and Mary Tibodeau,
and Irving and Katherine Piper.
A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, at
St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin with Fr. Jim Steffes officiating.
Visitation will start at 12 p.m. at the church until the time of the mass.
Burial will follow the mass at Calvary Cemetery in Austin.

Vila Mae (Magee) Warrington 1911-2004
AUSTIN, MINNESOTA -- A graveside service for Vila Mae (Magee) Warrington
will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Cedar City Cemetery in Austin.
Mrs. Warrington, 92, of Lodi, Calif., formerly of Austin,
died Jan. 27, 2004, in Lodi of complications of a fall and a broken leg
on Jan. 2.
Vila Mae Magee was born May 11, 1911, in Austin, and graduated
from Austin High School and Iowa State Teachers College. On Sept. 5, 1931, she
married Cedric "Stub" Warrington. After a short teaching career, she and
her husband moved to Pasadena, Calif., where they established Warrington
Auto Service. She was bookkeeper for the business. Her husband died in
1996. Mrs. Warrington lived in Pasadena and later La Canada, Calif.,
before moving to Lodi in 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan (Walter) Cranston of Lockeford,
Calif.; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn
Goslee of Austin; and two brothers, Richard Magee and Kenneth Magee,
both of Austin. A son preceded her in death.

Edith Pike c1890-1894
In Austin township, Sunday evening, February 18, 1894, little
Edith M. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Pike, aged three years. She was ill
about a week. Funeral services conducted by Rev. C. D. Belden, were
held at Enterprise school house yesterday noon.

(son) Deremer died 1887
--Last Wednesday a son of C. Deremer was killed while riding
after the cows. He was thrown from the horse and his skull crushed, killing
him instantly. The funeral was held at Enterprise school house Friday.

Edith May Hemstreet 1883-1884
--Died, in the town of Lyle, Oct. 11, Edith May, infant
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Hemstreet, aged 16 months. Funeral services
at Enterprise school house, Monday afternoon, Rev. W. E. Stanley of
Austin officiating.

Bertha E. Hart 1869-1884
--Bertha E., eldest daughter of Mrs. Allan Hart, of Austin township,
died yesterday morning very suddenly of pulmonary hemorrhage, aged 15
last January. Bertha had been suffering for the past three weeks with
occasional attacks of hemorrhage, not very severe. She had rested very
well through the night, but about 5 o'clock yesterday morning was suddenly
attacked with profuse hemorrhage, and lived only a very short time, death
being caused by strangulation. Funeral to-day at Enterprise school house,
at 2 p. m.

J. Allen Hart 1847-1883
--J. A. Hart, of Varco, died last week Thursday, of consumption. He has
been a sufferer from this slowly wasting, yet surely fatal disease, for
several years.
He was a man of many moral excellencies and highly respected by his
many friends. He leaves behind a wife and five children, one son and
four daughters. Funeral exercises were conducted by Rev. Spafford last
Sunday at Enterprise school-house.
A short outline of the life of the deceased may interest our readers:
J. Allen Hart was born in the town of Clayton, Jefferson county, N. Y.,
Sept. 9th, 1847; removed to Sheboygan county, Wis., in May, 1856, and
again to Steele county, Minnesota, in September, 1862. In August, 1864,
he enlisted in the service of the U. S., in the 11th regiment Minnesota
volunteers; was honorably discharged the following July, 1865. Married
Miss Ama (sic) H. Varco of Austin township, this county, Feb. 16th, 1868.
He was one of a family of twelve children, eight boys and four girls, of
whom there are now living four boys and one girl.
A large circle of friends extend heartfelt sympathy to the deeply
afflicted widow and fatherless children.

Eliza Parmenter c1813-1881
--Died, in Lyle, May 11, 1881, Mrs. Eliza Parmenter, aged 67 years,
widow of the late Mason Parmenter, who died four years ago. The parents
and children were reared in New York state, the family moving to Madison,
Wisconsin, in 1855, and to Austin in 1858. The oldest son died in the army
during the rebellion.
Four children survive, James, John E., Mason J., and Sarah, all of whom were present at their mother's death. She was in former years a consistent and worthy member of the Baptist church.
Appropriate funeral services were held May 12 at Enterprise school house by Rev. C. D. Belden, of this city. A large circle of friends were in attendance.

Willie Eugene Parmenter 1880-1881
In the town of Lyle, March 19th, 1881, little Willie Eugene, son of James
and Louise F. Parmenter-- aged seven months and thirteen days.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Enterprise school-house
by Rev. C. D. Belden of this city.
"Up in that beautiful city,
Which hath no need of the sun,
Safe--on the Savior's bosom--
Resteth the little one."

Kathleen G. Grover 1949-2016
Kathleen G. Grover, 66, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, January
26, 2016, at Adams Health Care Center, Adams, Minnesota.
She was born Dec. 9, 1949, in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Richard
and Gae (Greenlee) Grover. After attending Austin Public Schools, Kathleen
graduated from the Brown Institute in 1977 with a broadcast license. She
worked at KAAL-TV for 11 years and then attended the Minnesota School
of Business from 2001-2003, where she earned an Associate of Arts degree
in Computer Networking.
After moving to the Twin Cities, Kathleen continued her career as a
TV engineer. In 2007, poor health forced Kathy to retire. She returned
to Austin in 2009. Among her favorite pastimes were crocheting, camping
and tubing. She lived for the weekends with her family at "the land,"
where they enjoyed holding family talent contests. Kathy especially loved
the annual outings taken with her sisters.
Survivors include her son J.T. Grover of Madison, Wisconsin; her daughter
Jane Beck of North Carolina; three brothers: Dick (Linda) Grover of Harmony,
Minnesota, Bill (Mary) Grover of Adams, Minnesota, and Fred Grover also of
Adams; four sisters: Shirley Brown and Linda (Mike) Burzinski, both of
Austin, Minnesota, Debbie Roberts of Harmony, Minnesota, and Joy Metz of
Austin, Minnesota; brother-in-law Don Hall, also of Austin; her nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Gae Grover; and
four sisters; Sharon Leier, Jeanne Fox, Phyllis Hall and Patty Grover.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016,
at Crane Community Chapel in Austin with Pastor Dale Christiansen
officiating. The Grover Family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m.
on Friday at the church, immediately preceding the service. Interment
will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Memorials can be directed
to the Hormel Institute. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein

Ellsworth R. "Red" Krueger 1932-2016
May 18, 1932 -- January 24, 2016 (age 83)
Obituary--
Memorial services for Ellsworth "Red" Krueger will be held at a later date.
Ellsworth Krueger, age 83, of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, passed away
Sunday, January 24, 2016 at the Grand Meadow Healthcare Center.
Ellsworth Ruben Krueger was born May 18, 1932 in Onekima, Michigan to
Edwin and Anna (Tuster) Krueger. He attended school through the 8th grade.
On February 10, 1941, Red was united in marriage to Shirley Cain in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Red was a very committed husband and father working
12-14 hours a day as a steel worker to support and provide for his family.
When not working, Red enjoyed grilling during all seasons, gardening,
raising chickens, rabbits, and ducks, watching TV, John Wayne, and spending
time with his family. He was a member of the Baptist Church and took part
in Bible Studies. Red had a great sense of humor and was a very strong and
loving man.
Red is survived by his wife Shirley Krueger of Grand Meadow, Minnesota;
children, Danny (Donna) Krueger of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Linda (James)
Greider of Rantaul, Illinois, Cindy (Bruce) Beyerl of Rockford, Illinois,
and Ruth Ann (Ekane Kenneth) Krogge of Rochester, Minnesota; five
grandchildren, Matthew, Jennifer, Beth Ann, Brian, and Becky; and
numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Anna; brothers:
Ralph, Edwin Sr., and Raymond Sr, and a sister, Virginia.

Rose Mary (Anderson) Gerlach 1931-2016
#1:
Rose Mary Gerlach, 84, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, January 26,
2016, at her home of natural causes.
Rose Mary Anderson was born to Harry A. and Louise M. (Smith) Anderson
on Feb. 6, 1931, in Cudahy, Wisconsin. Following her 1949 graduation from
Austin High School, she attended Austin Junior College.
On April 24, 1954, Rose Mary married Frank Gerlach at Queen of Angels
Catholic Church in Austin. The couple had a son and three daughters, and
were later divorced. Rose Mary attended St. Olaf College in Northfield,
graduating in 1977. She went on to earn her master's degree from the
University of Minnesota in 1981.
In the early 1980's she traveled to Australia through the
Lutheran Church and worked for the Ministry of
Health in Queensland, where she set up a pilot program for incest victims.
This program is still in operation today. Rose Mary worked as a mental
health professional at Zumbro Valley Mental Health Center and as director
of outpatient services at St. Francis Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
She also served as supervisor of mental health services for Kanabec County
in Mora, Minnesota.
Her other jobs included a position with Mower County Child Services and
the Mower County Teen Court working as a mental health professional at
Austin High School. Rose Mary was a very fun-loving person who loved to
read, garden, fish and travel. Her favorite destinations were Europe and
Canada. She treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. Family was the center of her life.
Rose Mary is survived by her son David Gerlach; her daughters: Marianne
Bremer, Lori Stadheim, and Susan (Bob) Bailey, all of Austin; also by her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Louise Anderson; and
one sister.
At Rose Mary's request, her body will be donated to the Mayo Clinic
Anatomical Bequest Program. Private family services will be held at a later
date. Memorials can be directed to Hope Community Inc. in Minneapolis or
recipient of donor's choice. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting
the family with arrangements.

Rose Mary Gerlach, 84, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, January 26,
2016, at her home of natural causes.
Rosemary was laid to rest Oct. 29 at Oakwood Cemetery after nine
months in the Mayo Anatomy Research Program. Rosemary's bequest provided
an invaluable learning experience to students, residents and physicians of
the Mayo Department of Anatomy.
She will be remembered by family and friends as a private, funny,
giving and spiritual woman.

Patricia Ruth (Anderson) Benson 1936-2016
Patricia Ruth Benson, 79, died Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at St. Marys
hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Patricia was born September 10, 1936, to Marshall and Viola Anderson
in Austin. Minnesota, On October 9, 1955, she married Paul Benson at
St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, Minnesota. She resided for 55 years
in Rochester. She worked as a food service cook at Rochester Public schools
for 17 years.
Patricia is survived by three children: son Dave (Deb) Benson of
Fairbanks, Alaska, Kathy Moon of Des Moines, Iowa, and Bryan Benson of
Minnetonka, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; and two sisters: Karen Sorenson
of Hayward, Minnesota, and Marilyn Hackensmith of Austin, Minnesota.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother and
one sister.
Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Zumbro
Lutheran Church with funeral immediately following, led by the Rev. Jason
Bryan-Wagner. Luncheon following funeral service at Zumbro Lutheran Church.
Memorials will be given to Zumbro Lutheran Church or Pleasant Prairie Dale

Steven Allan Nelson c1951-2016

Lena B. Hanson 1876-1917
Lena B. Hanson, wife of Police Officer Ole Gullickson died at her
home 107 north Oak street at 8:15 Friday morning after a brief illness.
The news of her death came as a great shock to the many friends of the
family.
Lena B. Hanson was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Hanson and was born
in Adams January 16, 1876. She attended the schools in Adams and on March
25, 1899, was married to Ole Gullickson. They made their home near Adams
until 15 years ago when they moved to Austin, where they have resided
ever since. She is survived by her husband and seven children, Grant,
Bernice, Leonard, Sadie, Edna, Arnold, and Vernon. Another child Bernie
died some years ago. She also leaves father and the following brothers
and sisters, Mrs. Andrew Gullickson, Mrs. Alex Aspen (Asper), Mrs. Dell
Smith all of Adams, Mrs. Sena Allfson of this city; Miss Lizzie Hanson of
Minneapolis, Mrs. Nettie Knutson and Michael of Petersburg, N.D., Henry
and Obert of Faribault.
Mrs. Gullickson was a member of the Lutheran church, She devoted her
life to her husband, children and home. She was a Christian woman, a good
wife and mother.
The funeral will be from the house at 1:30 Monday and from the Lutheran
church at 2 o'clock. Burial in Oakwood cemetery in this city.

Ole Gullickson 1870-1925
Ole Gullickson, police officer in Austin for nine years and recently
detective for the Milwaukee, died of apoplexy Saturday morning at the home
of his sister near Faribault. Funeral services were held this week. He is
survived by seven children and a step-daughter; Grant Gullickson, Birmingham,
Ala., Bernice, Leonard, Sadie, Edna, Arnold and Vernon all of Austin. Six
sisters and two brothers survive. Mr. Gullickson was born near Adams,
July 22, 1870.

George Stoyles c1855-1900
--George Stoyles died Sunday night at his home in Austin township. He
leaves a wife and five children. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. C.
D. Belden, were held at the residence yesterday afternoon. Interment at
Enterprise. Deceased was about 45 years old.

William Henry Stoyle 1883-1912
WILLIAM H. STOYLE
Willams (sic) Henry Stoyle, aged 29 years, dropped dead of heart trouble
about 4:15 Monday afternoon, Nov. 4, 1912, as he was crossing Main Street
near the First National bank corner. he was taken at once into the bank
and medical aid was promptly at hand but life was extinct.
He had been working for Francis Rogers for the past season and had
helped him load his car that afternoon. He had been subject to heart
trouble for years brought on by over-exertion.
He was born in Lyle village Aug. 13, 1883. They lived in the vicinity
of Austin for several years and when 14 years old his folks located on
their present place in Austin township.
His father died Dec. 31, 1900. One of the children, Avery, died just
about a year ago, Nov. 13, 1911. William was one of five children of whom
three are living. The mother also survives.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. C. D. Belden will be held at Varco
schoolhouse tomorrow, Thursday afternoon. Interment in Varco cemetery.

Sarah (Crumbaker) OFFICER 1799-1891
--Died, in Austin township, of old age, Sunday afternoon, Feb. 8, 1891,
Mrs. Sarah, relict of James Officer, aged 91 years. She has been remarkably
vigorous until a few weeks ago.
Sarah Crumbaker was born in Virginia Nov. 13, 1799. She was married
in Muskingun Co. Ohio, Aug. 9, 1821 to James Officer. She was the mother
of nine children, of whom three are living, Elias C. Officer of Springville,
Vernon Co. Wis. and two unmarried daughters who have always lived at home.
Funeral services will be held at the Varco school house this (Wednesday)
afternoon at one o'clock. Eaton and Will Officer are grandsons of the
deceased.

Bertha (Olson) Rolf 1883-1963
Mrs. William Rolf, age 79, passed away Monday morning, December 2, at
St. Olaf Hospital, Austin, where she had been a patient for the past
three weeks.
Funeral services will be held from St. John's Lutheran Church, Elkton,
at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5. Pastor Kunz to officiate.
She leaves to survive her husband, William, Iva, Mrs. Gilbert Stam
of Detroit, Michigan; Floyd Rolf of Oakland; Mrs. Florence Kraft of
Elkton; Dorothy, Mrs. Herman Klaehn of Taopi; five grandchildren, nine
great-grandchildren, one sister Mrs. Arthur Lewison of Adams.
The body can be viewed at the church from 12 noon until time of the
funeral. Mrs. Willard Ballantyne will be the organist. Soloist will be
Mrs. Loren Klaehn. Interment will be in the Hoflanda Cemetery, rural
Rose Creek.
Pallbearers were Herb Osmundson, Lee Osmundson, Richard Hemingway, Harlan
Rogne, Gus Blom, Glen Hanson.

Bertha Olson Rolf's wedding
Double Wedding.
A very pretty double wedding took place at the home of Mrs. Gullick
Olson last Thursday at four o'clock in the afternoon at which time her
daughters, Bertha and Rachel, were united in marriage to William Rolf and
Henry Christensen. The brides were very prettily attired in gray and wore
veils and carried roses and carnations, the grooms were attired in the
conventional black.
Miss Ida Gullickson and Miss Emma Rolf acted as brides' maids and the
grooms were attended by Martin Johnson and George Christensen. Miss Ida
Gullickson presided at the organ. After the ceremony a five o'clock dinner
was served to about fifty guests who were present.
The happy young couples were the recipients of many valuable presents.
Rev. O. H. Myhre performed the ceremony. Both the newly married couples
are well and favorably known here and have a host of friends who extend
congratulations and wish them well.

Alexander Edward GEMMEL 1847-1886
--Died, suddenly, on the 30th of August, 1886, of verulent cholera
morbus, in the house of R. W. Palmer, Esq., Haverhill, near Rochester,
Olmsted Co., Alexander Edward, son of Andrew and Phebe Gemmel of Austin,
aged 39 years and 27 days.

William John Rolf 1885-1969
William John Rolf was born in Marshall township on May 26, 1885 to
Fred and Louise Rolf.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Hoflanda Lutheran
Church, Marshall township. On Nov. 29, 1906 he was united in marriage to
Bertha Gullickson. They made their home in the Adams-Elkton area where
farming was their main occupation.
After being in Elkton for 15 years his wife passed away on Dec. 2, 1963.
He then remained in Elkton for four years until his health became poorly
and he was hospitalized, then came to make his home with his daughter and
family near Taopi. He was then hospitalized for three months, and on
Thanksgiving Day in 1968 came to Meadow Manor nursing home where he
enjoyed fair health for three months until he passed away on Monday,
March 3 at 5 a.m. after a week of serious illness at the age of 83 years,
nine months, three days.
He leaves to mourn his passing one son, Floyd of Oakland; three daughters,
Mrs. Gilbert (Iva) Stam, Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Irven (Florence) Mauer, Albert
Lea, Mrs. Herman (Dorothy) Klaehn, Taopi; five grandchildren;
10 great-grandchildren, one niece, Louise Runner, Gilman, Iowa; one
nephew, Oliver Rolf, Wayzata.
His wife, parents, three sisters, two brothers, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church,
Elkton, Rev. Jack Bredfeldt officiating. Mrs. Willard Ballantyne was
organist, Mrs. Loren Klaehn and Mrs. Barry Peterson sang. Pallbearers
were Richard Hemingway, Glen Hanson, Milo Newkirk, Lloyd Uglum, Bernie
Hegge, Harlan Rogne. Interment was in the Hoflanda Cemetery, Marshall
Township.

Betty Mae (Hemmer) Engel 1934-2016
Betty Mae Engel, age 81 of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, January
28, 2016 at The Cedars of Austin.
Betty Mae was born July 20, 1934 to Peter and Geraldine (Johnston)
Hemmer in Waterloo, Iowa. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic
High School in Waterloo. In 1952 Betty began her service in the Civil
Air Patrol Cadet Program. Following her duty, she returned home and
began her career as a bookkeeper.
On June 1, 1963, Betty was united in marriage to William John Engel at
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo. Betty and Bill resided in
Mankato and later Faribault before moving to Austin in 1971. Betty
continued to her work as a bookkeeper for her husband's business, Engel
Distributing. They later resided in Las Vegas for a few years before
returning to Austin. Betty was a long time member of St. Augustine
Catholic Church in Austin where she was active in her circle.
She was an avid card player, enjoyed crocheting, and loved her annual
trips to Las Vegas. She especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her daughter Deb (Mike) Petersen of Austin, and her
son Tom Engel of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; grandchildren Lauryn Petersen,
McKena Petersen, and Josie Engel; brother Don Hemmer of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill on June 9, 2009;
sisters, Joy Schmidt and Barbara (Jack) Cooper; and a brother, Ted Hemmer.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, February 1, 2016,
at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel with Father Dale Tupper officiating. The
Engel Family will greet friends on Monday from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
prior to services at the funeral home. Services prearranged and performed

Maxine Beatrice (Ruud, Beadle) DeBoer 1918-2016
Maxine B. DeBoer, age 97 of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, January
28, 2016 at Sacred Heart Care Center.
Maxine Beatrice Ruud was born November 3, 1918 to James and Erna
(Schroeder) Ruud. She grew up and attended school in the Spring Valley
area, graduating from Rose Creek High School. After high school, Maxine
worked at Woolworth's in Austin. She married Merlin Beadle in 1939.
Shortly after Merlin arrived home from World War II, he died in a car
accident, leaving behind his wife and three small children.
On May 8, 1949, Maxine married Sydney R. DeBoer in Spring Valley. They
had two children. He passed away in October 1958. After the children were
grown, Maxine worked at St. Marks Lutheran Home in Austin as a dietary
aide. In her leisure time, Maxine enjoyed scrapbooking and was an avid
crossword puzzle solver. She also spent time gardening, crocheting, and
canning fruits and vegetables. Maxine was an expert on being frugal.
Staying close to her family was the most important thing to her.
Survivors include her children Shirley (Robert) Grathwohl of Ames, Iowa,
Gloria (Melvin) Jendersee of Burnsville, Minnesota, Brian (Daryl) Beadle of
Amery, Wisconsin, Diana (Robert) Novotny of Richmond, Virginia, and Tebbe
DeBoer of Waterville, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren;
siblings Marlys (Donald) Ulland and James (Julie) Ruud, both of Austin.
She was preceded in death by her parents James and Erna Ruud, two husbands Merlin Beadle and Sydney DeBoer, daughter-in-law Sharene and her sister Phyllis Ruud.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 5, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Robert Bailey officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 P.M. at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and will continue on Friday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. Raymond V. "Ray" Wiste 1961-2016
Raymond V. "Ray" Wiste, 55, of Plainview, Minnesota, passed away at his
home Friday morning, Jan. 29, 2016, with his family by his side.
Raymond Verdon Wiste was born Jan. 20, 1961, in Austin, Minnesota, to
Dale and Joan (Sabanish) Wiste. He was baptized and confirmed in the
Lutheran faith, and attended school in Austin and Southland graduating
in 1979 from Southland. He went on to Jackson Vo-Tech in Jackson, Minnesota,
where he received a degree as a construction electrician. On July 18, 1981,
he married Lillian "Lilly" Douty in Adams, Minnesota.
Ray loved his work as an industrial electrician for 17 years, building
power plants, well sites, and compressor stations. He had brain surgery
for epilepsy in 1991 which left him seizure free. It made life so much
more enjoyable for him. He enjoyed life to the fullest because he was
seizure free and had no worries. He traveled for his work and got to see
a lot of the United States. Lilly joined him for the last eight years of
working and worked with him. They got to see places together which made
it more enjoyable. They also traveled to Australia and New Zealand for
their 25th wedding anniversary.
Ray and Lilly enjoyed attending many concerts together. He had a good
ear for music and could play guitar by ear. Ray had a natural talent for
singing and playing the guitar, and would pick up the guitar in his spare
time and play. Ray also loved to grill and smoke food. He loved to cook
for family gatherings, and made many carrot cakes at Christmas time for
friends and family. He always dreamed of starting a "carrot cake" business.
Ray especially treasured his grandchildren and time spent with them.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Lilly Wiste of Plainview; two
daughters: Megan (John) Rodriguez of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Morgan (Josh
Finne) Wiste of Plainview; six grandchildren: Brandon, Jacob, David,
Julia, Colten, and Blaise; honorary son-in-law, John Schmit; his mother,
Joan (Wayne) Skov of Lyle, Minnesota; two sisters: Renae (Dayle) Goskesen,
and Rhonda (John) DeVries both of Austin, Minnesota; a brother, Roger
(Gina) Wiste of Ninilchik, Alaska; mother-in-law, Doris Douty of Adams,
Minnesota; brother-in-law's and sister-in-law's: Bob (Janet) Douty of
Rose Creek, Minnesota, Kay (Denny) Distad of Burnsville, Minnesota,
Lester (Sue) Douty of Riverside, California, Janette (Tom) Nolan of
Mankato, Minnesota, Monica (Larry) Mullenbach of Rose Creek, Minnesota,
Lynn (Russ) Weber of Brownsdale, Minnesota, Jim (Sarah) Douty of Adams,
Minnesota, and Julene (Michael) Nolan of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his father; grandparents.
Friends and family may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016,

Harold Emil Eischens, 80 of Taopi, Minnesota, died Saturday, January
30, 2016 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.
Harold was born in New Market, Minnesota on January 10, 1936 to Martin
and Caroline (Schoenecker) Eischens. He was united in marriage to Katherine
Pietsch on February 16, 1955 in Farmington, Minnesota. Harold worked at
Helgeson Construction in Blooming Prairie and Road Constructors, Inc. in
Rochester.
He enjoyed going to auctions and playing cards with his buddies in Taopi,
Adams and Rose Creek. He loved to take Katherine on road trips and to take
his grandkids fishing. After he retired, he had a lawn mowing business
with his grandkids. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Terry, daughter-in-law
Gina, great grandson Weston, three brothers including his twin baby brother
and two sisters.
Harold is survived by his wife: Katherine Eischens, Taopi, Minnesota;
children: Gwen (Al) Swenson, Adams, Minnesota; Charlene (Charlie) Jax,
Bloomington, Minnesota; daughter-in-law: Kari Eischens, Taopi, Minnesota;
Keith Eischens, Taopi, Minnesota; Butch (Nancy) Eischens; Dodge Center,
Minnesota; Steve (Janice) Eischens, Taopi, Minnesota; Lynn Eischens,
Brownsdale, Minnesota; and Peggy Nagele, Dexter, Minnesota; 20 grandchildren
and 24 great-grandchildren; brothers: Brother Ambrose Eischens, Indiana;
Walter Eischens, Jordan, Minnesota; sister-in-law: Ann Eischens, Prior
Lake, Minnesota; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 4th at
the Adams Funeral Home with Brother Ambrose Eischens officiating. Interment
will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Taopi, MN. Visitation will be at the Adams

Arnold Raymond Christianson 1920-2016
Arnold R. Christianson, age 95, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday,
February 2, 2016 at his home.
He was born February 21, 1920 in Udolpho Township, Mower County,
Minnesota, the son of Christian B. and Bertha (Stemson) Christianson.
Arnold attended school in Austin and graduated from Austin High School. He
served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was the recipient of
the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart. On July 29, 1945, Arnold married
Rayma A. Peterson at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church in rural Austin. The
couple raised five children and were married for more than 64 years. Arnold
was a lifelong resident of Udolpho Township and Austin, and a charter member
of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Arnold worked as a laborer at Hormel
Foods, retiring after 44 years of service. He will be dearly missed by
his family and friends.
Arnold is survived by his sons Larry, Randy, and James Christianson,
all of Austin, Minnesota; his daughters Marcia Christianson of West Bend,
Wisconsin, and Jeanne (Timothy) Hutchins of Faribault, Minnesota; six
grandchildren Bonnie, Nicole, Candace, John, Samantha and Katie, 12
great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Bertha
Christianson; his wife Rayma Christianson, in 2010; one great-granddaughter
Kylie Mae; seven brothers; three sisters; eight brothers-in-law and ten
sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6,
2016 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Austin with Rev. Karen Behling
officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday at
the church, immediately preceding the service. Interment with military
honors by American Legion Post 91 will be in Red Oak Grove Lutheran
Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to the American Diabetes Association,

Joan Kathern (Rumsey) Bustad 1939-2016
Joan Kathern Bustad, age 76, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, February
2, 2016 at Adams Health Care Center.
Joan Kathern Rumsey was born August 25, 1939, in Austin, Minnesota, to
Bernard and Lucille (Francis) Rumsey. She attended Austin schools and was
a lifelong Austin resident. Joan owned and operated a daycare center for
many years, and raised several foster children. A member of the Lutheran
faith, Joan enjoyed fishing, cooking and baking. She liked to spend some
of her leisure time playing bingo, knitting, or listening to music. She
took special pride in her children and grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her children Tim Bustad of Austin, Minnesota, Brian
(Tammi) Bustad of Rose Creek, Minnesota, Randy Bustad of the Twin Cities,
and step-son Scott Bustad of Austin, Minnesota; one brother Donald (Mary
Ann) Rumsey, who currently reside in Germany, one sister Pat Anderson of
Austin, sisters-in-law Sandra Rumsey of Austin, Red Rumsey of Wabasha,
Marilyn Rumsey of Brownsdale; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers Leon, Lavern,
Ben and Howard Rumsey.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February
13, 2016 at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, with Rev. Jeremy
Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the

Mae Anita (Proeschel) Schroeder 1927-2016
Mae A. Schroeder, 88, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, January 29,
2016, at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester.
Mae Anita Proeschel was born April 21, 1927, in Austin, Minnesota, the
daughter of Oscar W. and Anna W. (Hanken) Proeschel. She attended Maple
Leaf School District No. 106 before graduating from Austin High School.
On Sept. 12, 1948, Mae was united in marriage to Robert Schroeder at
Trinity Lutheran Church in Dexter Township.
The couple raised three children. Mae worked at St. Olaf Hospital in
Austin as a dietary aide from 1971-1992. She was a caregiver to many,
including her husband of 35 years, Bob, her parents, Aunt Frieda, and
several friends in need. She loved the outdoors, tending to her flower
and vegetable gardens and mowing her own lawn until the age of 80.
Especially important to Mae was the love of her family and friends, and
she treasured the time spent with her grandchildren.
She was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in
Dexter Township, where she was baptized, confirmed and married. She was
active in the Trinity Ladies Circle, the Altar Guild, and taught Sunday
school. She was active in the Trinity Ladies Circle, the Altar Guild,
taught Sunday school and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Her
life has now come full circle as we say goodbye to her and the church she
loved.
Mae is survived by her daughters: Marlene (Kenton) Lynne of Rochester,
Minnesota, Donna (Gordon) Handeland of Austin, Minnesota, and Kathryn (Ted)
Henricks of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; her grandchildren: David
Handeland (Kelly McMahon), Kari (Adam) Lindberg, Timothy Henricks, Laura
Henricks (Kaleb Hancock), Courtney Lynne (Dutch Hansen), Eric Lynne;
great-grandchildren: Hans Lindberg and Britta Lindberg; brother, Victor
(Saundra) Proeschel of Glencoe; sister-in-law, Eunice Hansen of Edina;
and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Anna Proeschel;
her husband Robert Schroeder in 1983; her brother Marvin Proeschel; and
sisters-in-law: Lorna Schnell, Lorraine Parsons, and Devera Proeschel.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at
Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dexter Township, 22980 630th Ave,
with the Rev. Dean Gunn officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity
Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, from 4 to
6 p.m. at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin.

John Michael "Jerry" Cross Jr. 1935-2016
John Michael "Jerry" Cross Jr., 80, of Buffalo, Minnesota, passed
away Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in
Minneapolis.
He was born March 7, 1935, in Austin, Minnesota, the son of John
Michael Sr. and Hazel Ovedia (Olson) Cross. Jerry was baptized and
confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Augustine Catholic Church in
Austin, Minnesota.
He is a 1953 graduate from Pacelli High School in Austin, Minnesota. He
is a proud veteran, serving four years in the U.S. Air Force. He worked
for General Motors parts division for 30 years in Edina, Minnesota.
On May 7, 1977, John Michael Cross Jr. and Phyllis Kay Young were
united in marriage at Baptist Church in Minnetonka, Minnesota, by Pastor
Paul Evan. The two renewed their vows on March 7, 1986, at St. Francis
Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo by Father Maynard Kegler.
Jerry was a member of the United Auto Workers Club and he and Phyllis
were on golfing and bowling leagues. Jerry was very passionate about
sports. He knew many details and statistics about sports and he sponsored
little league baseball teams when he lived in California and coached little
league baseball in Buffalo for many years. He enjoyed his yearly duck
hunting and fishing trips with his friend, Al Jirele.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Collin Cross.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Phyllis Cross of Buffalo; son,
Robert Cross of California; daughter, Eva (Craig) Gage and their
children, Cheyenne and Benjamin of Buffalo; brother and sisters:
Terryl (Gary) Sherman of Apple Valley, William "Bill" (Jane) Cross of
Blaine, Theanne (Gary) Bjerke of California; and many nieces, nephews;
family and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, from 4 to 8 p.m. with
prayer service 7 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel, 119 Central Ave., Buffalo.
Mass of Christian Burial for Jerry Cross will be held Tuesday, Feb. 9,
2016, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at St. Francis Xavier
Catholic Church, 300 First Ave. NW, Buffalo. Interment will be at a
later date in the church cemetery in Buffalo.

Emil Henry Handke 1952-2016
Emil Henry Handke, age 63, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, February
8, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Home in Albert Lea.
He was born August 2, 1952 in Austin, the son of Fred and Norraine
(Thorson) Handke. Emil attended Banfield Elementary School, and graduated
from Austin High School in 1970 before receiving his Associate's degree
from Austin Community College. In 1974, he married Renee Majerus. The
couple had two children and were later divorced.
After working at various jobs over the years, Emil became employed as
a laborer at Hormel Foods, where he worked for over 17 years. A lifelong
Austin resident and charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in
Austin, Emil enjoyed playing tennis and vacationing, especially in
Cozumel, Mexico. He especially loved being a grandpa and spending time
with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Emil is survived by his children Kristina Handke and Jason (Candace
Christianson) Handke, both of Albert Lea, Minnesota; one grandchild Peyton;
three brothers Steve Handke of Burnsville, Minnesota, Peter Handke of
Austin, Minnesota, and Philip (Jeanne) Handke of Stockton, Minnesota;
nieces, nephews, other relatives and close traveling friends, Eric and
Christina Olson. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and
Norraine Handke.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday,
February 12, 2016 at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with
Reverend Peter Soli officiating, followed by a 7:00 p.m. prayer service.

Donald D. Zabel. 90 of Austin died Sunday, January 31, 2015 at St. Marys
Care Center, Winsted, Minnesota.
Donald Duane Zabel was born January 24, 1926 at Harris, Minnesota, the
son of Helmuth and Daisy (Newling) Zabel. Following high school Donald
served in the US Marine Corps during World War II. He returned to the
Austin area where he was employed by Austin Public Schools as a painter.
Donald was married to Mary Jean Blanchard on January 12, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anita May Smith and Louise Beeman.
Donald is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Blanchard, Austin, nephews
and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at the
Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Reverend Dennis Tamke officiating. Interment
will be at Grandview Cemetery. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of
arrangements.

Karen Ann (Kinter) Barth 1954-2016
June 23, 1954 -- February 3, 2016 (age 61)
Obituary--
Karen Ann (Kinter) Barth, age 61, of Le Roy, Minnesota, died Wednesday
February 3, 2016, at her home in Le Roy.
She was born June 23, 1954 in Cresco, Iowa, to Everett and Maxine
(Johnson) Kinter. Karen was the second child with her brother Mark
being born four years earlier. She was a happy child who liked to sing
and play with her "Fanny the Fallen Angel" doll. She grew up in a house
across from the Le Roy Public School and as she grew she participated in
choir, band, and theater. She took up piano lessons and sang in the Church
Choir. Karen also did wardrobe work on such High School play classics
as "The King and I," "Oliver" and "The Sound of Music." She also
maintained high enough grades to be a member of the National Honor
Society throughout her High School experience.
Karen went to college at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South
Dakota where she majored in nursing and minored in Library Science. She
graduated from Augustana with a degree in nursing and went on to work in
Grand Meadow, Richmond, Virginia, Louisville, Kentucky, Rochester, Minnesota,
Minneapolis and Spring Valley. In the early '90s she returned to LeRoy
to help in the care of her mother Maxine.
On September 18, 1999, she was united in marriage to Richard Jeffery
Barth in Preston, Minnesota. She and Richard shared a house in Spring
Valley, but later separated. Karen loved cats and animals in general. She
picked up a stray dog one winter day in 1990 and gifted it to her mother
who loved it so much she couldn't bring herself to have another dog when
it died. Her cats were her children and she treated them well. She had
several strokes over the past few years, but her passing comes as a
surprise to those who loved her.
She is survived by two brothers, Mark (Kris) Kinter of Spring Park,
Minnesota, and Kevin Kinter of Las Vegas, Nevada; four nieces and nephews;
and one great-niece and one great-nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents Maxine and Everett.
There will be a visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, February 8, 2016, at
the Hindt Funeral Home in Le Roy, Minnesota. There will be no other service.

Michael Thomas Paulson 1963-2016
Michael Thomas Paulson, 52, of Burnsville, Minnesota, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, surrounded by his loving family and caring staff.
He was born March 11, 1963, in Austin, Minnesota, the son of Tom and
Phyllis (Christofferson) Paulson. Michael attended Oak Grove Activity
Center and graduated from Leonard Kirtz School in Canfield, Ohio, in 1984.
He worked at the Mahoney County Workshop before moving with his family to
Lakeville, Minnesota, in 1993. Michael lived at the Kennelly Home in
Burnsville since 1994 and worked at the Midwest Specialty Workshop.
He was active in the Burnsville community, volunteering his time walking
dogs at the Burnsville Humane Society, delivering Meals on Wheels, and
shredding paper at Dakota Communities. Michael was honored as Volunteer of
the Month in 2009. Among his favorite leisure activities were watching sports
and working puzzles. Michael's greatest joy was gathering with his family. He
loved social activities, especially visiting zoos and eating out. Michael
had a gentle spirit and he loved his family very much. He will be dearly
missed by all who knew and loved him.
Michael is survived by his parents Tom and Phyllis Paulson of Austin;
his siblings: Kimberly (Tim) Cambias of Atlanta, Georgia, Kelly (John)
Downey of Austin, Minnesota, and Brian (Jill) Paulson of Kenyon, Minnesota;
aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and his special friend and
caregiver Aaron Oden.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Ray and Agnes Wagner,
and Ray and Esther Christofferson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at
the First United Methodist Church in Austin with the Rev. Dennis Tamke
officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. There will be a
visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at Worlein Funeral
Home in Austin and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Memorials can be directed to the First United Methodist Church or Living
Well Communities at 680 Oneill Drive, Eagan, MN 55121. Services prearranged
and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin. Condolences may be
