Bob, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, August 20, 2015, at his home in the arms of his wife Jeanette and his youngest son Patrick.

His long, enduring battle with cancer ended his life at the age of 66 years. There was never a doubt in his mind where his final resting place would be. He now rests in the loving arms of his Savior Jesus Christ, who will present him to his Father in Heaven.

Bob was a man of integrity, a quiet man but when he spoke others listened. He had a very dry sense of humor, was a leader expecting the best from others and expecting the best of himself, a lover of golf, anytime anywhere (good shot Bob), and he cared for others but never complained throughout his almost seven years of cancer treatments.

He loved the nurses and staff of the Baylor Scott and White Oncology floor, who treated him with kindness and respect. His oncologist was Dr. Kathleen Halka, who worked hard to keep him with us as long as possible but was forthright with him so he knew what was going on. He took scripture seriously, treating others as he would want to be treated. He was a servant to many and looked after those under his care — his family, co-workers and friends.

Born and raised in Austin, Minnesota, he expanded his horizons by attending colleges in Minnesota, serving in the Army, and culminating at the University of Tennessee with a PHD in Audiology. He started and ended his career at the VA Hospital in Temple Texas with a short stint in private practice, always looking after those he cared for. He served his church in many capacities, sharing his gift of administration.

He leaves behind his wife Jeanette, partner, friend and lover of 45 years; his oldest son Joseph, wife Mary Kathryn and treasured granddaughter Elizabeth of Apex, North Carolina; his youngest and beloved son Patrick of Austin, Texas; his close-knit family from Austin, Minnesota, including sister Barbara Felton, husband John of Rose Creek, Minnesota: sister Marjorie Peterson; brother Jack Dunlop and wife Marlys; sister Nancy Reed and husband Cliff; brother James Dunlop; brother Thomas Dunlop and wife Lisa; and sister Deborah Horejsi and husband Clarence of Owatona, Minnesota.

Services were held at 12 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, at Immanuel Prince of Peace, Belton, Texas, with internment at 2 p.m. at the Central Texas Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Killeen, Texas. A visitation was held Sunday evening, Aug. 23, 2015, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in his name to: Immanuel Lutheran Church, Scott and White Vasicek Cancer Center, or to a scholarship fund for audiologists in training set up by his friends. Broecker Funeral Home in Salado was in charge of arrangements.

The early and middle segments of her childhood were spent moving around to various places, such as Scobey, Montana, and Chicago, Illinois, where she lived for several years. For the most part, Fern grew up in her paternal grandparents' household on the Davison family farm situated in Freeborn County, Minnesota, near Glenville, Minnesota. She attended Austin High School and graduated in 1934.

Fern married Robert Hoium in 1935. They resided in Albert Lea, Minnesota, and had two sons, Marland (born in 1940) and Dale (born in 1945). They subsequently divorced in 1948.

Matthew St. John

1819-1907

MATTHEW ST. JOHN.

Matthew St. John, an old resident of Lyle township, died Saturday morning, March 23, 1907, at the home of his son, A. M. St. John, at Lakefield, Minn., aged 87 years.

He was born September 7th, 1819, at Westerlo, Albany county, N. Y., and was married to Roxaline Pierce at Prattsville, N. Y., May 28th, 1845, by Rev. Headstrom.

He came west to Minnesota from Albany county, N. Y., in June, 1856, and purchased a home at Woodbury, near the Cedar river, in Lyle township, Mower county, Minn. He returned to New York and brought the family to Lyle township the same year-- 1856. He and his wife resided at Woodbury continuously until 1900 when they moved to Lakefield and Heron Lake, in Jackson county, Minnesota, so as to be near their sons and where the deceased resided at the time of his death.

His wife, Roxaline, died about five years earlier, on February 24th, 1902. To Matthew and Roxaline St. John were born five children-- Andre M., Ella E., Alice H., Wiley P., and Benona P.-- of whom two only are living. Deceased was the last survivor of his father's family of eleven children.

He became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at an early age and was a true-hearted, noble, Christian gentleman; loved and respected by all who knew him.

He passed away sweetly contented and happy. He was sick but one week, and did not suffer much during the illness, being possessed of all his faculties. He said: "I am not going to die until I have to, but when I have to then it will be all right," and he found it so.

Funeral services were held at Lakefield and the remains were brought to Lyle Monday evening for interment in Woodbury cemetery. Burial service was conducted by Rev. C. D. Belden of Austin Tuesday forenoon.

Deceased was one of the earliest settlers of Lyle township.

Mrs. Mary (Fialka) Eukel

1884-1903

Mrs. Mary Fialka Enkel (sic) who has been seriously ill for the past two weeks, died at her home Friday morning. She was a good and promising young woman and was dearly loved by all. The funeral was held Sunday in Iowa and interment in Woodbury cemetery. The sympathy of all the community goes out to the husband and relatives in their sad bereavement;

It was only the foot steps of angels
That silently entered the door
And took from our circle a dear one
To dwell on the radiant shore.

It was only a touch soft and living,
And then the dear soul was at rest,
While the soul of our dear "Mary" went upwards
To dwell with the pure and blest (sic).
