Phyllis Lavay (Threadgold) WILLIAMS 1925-2015
Phyllis L. Williams, 90, died on May 4, 2015, in Scottsdale, Arizona.
She was born on March 20, 1925, in Artesian, South Dakota, to Harvey
and Gertrude (Scott) Threadgold. She married James Robert Williams, her
life-long partner of 71 years. They moved to Austin, Minnesota, in 1948.
The first 15 years she lived in Sedona, Arizona, thereafter moving to
Sun City West.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Williams on
December 14, 2014; her parents; her oldest son, Richard K. Williams.
Survivors include sons: Michael H. Williams, (Jane) of Austin, Minnesota,
Mark (Cheri) Williams of Tonganoxie, Kansas; and daughter, Robin Gearhart
(Bob) of Scottsdale, Arizona; daughter-in-law Bonnie Williams of Sun
City West, Arizona; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is pending at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist
Church, 13658 W. Meeker Blvd., Sun City West, Arizona 85375.

Carol Ann (Klapperich) Osmundson, 78, of Austin, Minnesota, died
Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Mayo Clinic Health System Austin.
Carol was born on the family farm in Meyer, Iowa, on April 21, 1937,
to William and Margaret (Huemann) Klapperich. She attended and graduated
from Pacelli High School in 1956.
Carol worked for Younkers in the customer service department for over
25 years. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. Carol loved
spending time attending her grandchildren's school events. She also
enjoyed spending time with her friends and family members. Carol
loved to travel and read.
Carol is survived by her daughters: Sonya (Paul) Otting of Lakeville,
Minnesota, and Nicole (Jeremy) Osmundson-Dudycha of Austin; grandchildren:
Jason Otting, Taylor Osmundson, Hope Dudycha and Emma Dudycha; sisters:
Rosemary Klapperich of Austin, Helen (Ambrose) Krebsbach of Rose Creek;
and many nieces and nephews.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Oswald and Gerald
Klapperich; sister Alice Mullenbach; grandson Jeremy Otting; and other
family members.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2015,
at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father John Traufler officiating.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7
p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Mayer Funeral Home and again at 9:30

OBITUARY:
LYLE, MINNESOTA - Gerald Lee "Jerry" Erickson, 77, passed away suddenly at his home in rural Lyle, Minnesota, on Saturday, May 2, 2015.
Jerry had farmed in the area for more than 40 years.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 8, at 11 a.m. at the Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, 1211 S. 10th St., Hwy. 65 South, Northwood, Iowa.
The family will hold a visitation from 10-11 a.m. the same morning.
Jerry was born on April 11, 1938, at Grantsburg, Wisconsin, to Reuben and Imogene Bergman Erickson who predeceased him. He graduated from Grantsburg High School and attended the University of Minnesota. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Jerry owned and operated a farm equipment dealership in Wells, Minnesota, for several years during the 1960s before taking an instructor position at Austin Community College where he taught for several years as he transitioned to full-time farming.
Jerry was an avid collector of antique farm equipment, having been bitten by the bug as a teenager. For the past 30 years he was involved in the business of buying and selling antique farm advertising literature and memorabilia and served on the boards of directors of the collectors' associations of several brands. Jerry was a regular on the antique tractor show and swap-meet circuit, and was widely known among collectors in the US and many other countries.
He was active in community affairs, having participated in past years as a member of the Volunteer Fire Company and Conservation Club in the London, Minnesota, community.
Jerry was a wonderful brother and uncle, and a friend to many people far and wide. His hearty laugh, storytelling, easy-going nature, and love for the land will be missed by all who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his sister, Gail (Tom) Andersen of River Falls, Wisconsin, and a brother, Rodney "Rick" (Shari) Erickson of State College, Pennsylvania, and nephews Chris Andersen of Bainbridge Island, Washington, and Jeff Erickson (Rachel) of State College, Pennsylvania. A nephew, Craig Erickson, predeceased him.

Obituary
Sandra L. Askland, age 76 of Austin, died Monday May 4, 2015 at
Mayo Clinic Health System Rochester, Methodist Campus.
Sandra Lee Beck was born October 9, 1938 in Albert Lea, Minnesota,
to Clyde and Lillian (Johnson) Beck. She grew up in Austin and graduated
from Austin High School. Sandra's first marriage was to Donald Maxfield,
Jr., who passed away just two years after they were married. On November
24, 1962, she married K.B. Askland at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church in
Lyle, Minnesota. A member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austin, Sandra
was employed by First Bank, which later became U.S. Bank. She also
belonged to the Eagles Auxiliary for 59 years, holding many offices.
Her favorite pastimes were fly fishing, tap dancing, following the
Minnesota Vikings, and traveling. She spent winters in Apache Junction,
Arizona for more than twenty years, and once spent three months in Alaska.
In her younger years, Sandra was a contestant in the Miss Austin pageant
and a majorette for the Austin High School Marching Band. A lifetime
member of the V.F.W., she was also an avid hockey fan and doll collector,
and was active as a leader in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She especially
loved decorating for the holidays.
Sandra is survived by her husband K.B. Askland of Austin; her children
Connie (William) Hardwick of Austin, Kermit (Lori) Askland of London,
Minnesota, and Timothy Askland; four grandchildren Brandy Waldron,
Billie Jo Braaten, Katie Johnson, Danny Hayes, and eight
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Lillian Beck,
her first husband Donald Maxfield, Jr., and her son Craig Maxfield.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015 at
Grace Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Jeffrey Forbes officiating.
Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. Visitation will be
held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2015 at Worlein Funeral Home
in Austin, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
An Eagles Auxiliary service will be held during the visitation at 5:30 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to recipient of donor's choice. Worlein Funeral

Clifford R. "Randy" Dawes, 65 1949-2015
Clifford R. "Randy" Dawes, 65, of Bonita Springs, Florida, died
Saturday, May 2, 2015, following a seven year battle with ALS.
Formerly of Austin, Minnesota, he had been a winter resident of Bonita
Springs for several years before moving there permanently in 2014. Clifford
was born June 15, 1949, in Perry, Iowa, a son of Lowell E. and Helen
(Wicks) Dawes. Randy graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelors
Degree of Animal Science. His career was spent working for Hormel Foods
Corporation for over 38 years, retiring in 2009. Mr. Dawes was a golfer
who belonged to the Austin Country Club in Austin, Minnesota, and Highland
Woods Country Club in Bonita Springs, Florida. He was also a fan of the
Minnesota Twins, Chicago Cubs and especially the Iowa State Cyclones.
Randy is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Marilyn S.
(Eckerman) Dawes; children: Lori (Ben) Davis of Elko, Minnesota, and
Brent (Annie) Dawes of Burnsville, Minnesota; parents, Lowell and Helen
Dawes of Adel, Iowa; siblings: Nick (Peg) Dawes of Adel, Iowa, John Dawes
of Sedalia, Missouri, and Barbara Sadley of St. Marys, Pennsylvania; and
five grandchildren.
A celebration of Randy's life will be held at a later date in
Minnesota and will be announced. Memorial contributions to help fund

Barbara A. (Webb, Varenhorst) NERAD 1925-2015
Barbara A. Nerad, 90, of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday, May 3, 2015, at
Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.
Barbara was born in Hedrick, Iowa, on March 12, 1925, to Edward and
Cortney (Smith) Webb. She attended and graduated high school in Iowa.
Barbara married John Varenhorst in 1942 and to this union, two children
were born: Susan and Reid. Barbara and John later divorced.
Barbara married Donald L. Nerad on February 9, 1963, and to this union,
a son was born: Gene. Donald died in 1998.
Barbara was an entrepreneur in her time. She owned, operated or managed several businesses over the years. She owned the Steer Truck Stop in Albert Lea for eight years. Barbara then moved to Austin and managed the Key Apartments. While in Austin, she also owned and operated Belle Beauty Salon and Limousine Service for 10 years. After her retirement, she lived in Rochester, Owatonna and then back to Austin.
Barbara found Christ during the middle ages of her life. During that time in her life, she became more a more loving and giving person. She loved flowers, animals — especially cats — and helping people in need.
Barbara is survived by her children: Susan Varenhorst of South St. Paul, and Reid Varenhorst of Correctionville, Iowa; grandchildren: Alex, Kelly, Ray Jr. and Dylan; many nieces and nephews; special friends: Loni Baldner and Doris Smith.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald Nerad; son, Gene Nerad; siblings: Dorothy and Marjorie.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at International Word Fellowship, 210 4th Street NE in Austin, with Pastor Ray Tuck officiating. Visitation will start at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be private. Memorials in Barbara’s name can be made to the Mower County Humane Society or International Word Fellowship. Evelyn Ione (Anderson) Lange 1924-2015
Evelyn Ione Lange, 90, of Adams, Minnesota, died Wednesday, May 6,
2015, at the Adams Health Care Center.
Evelyn was born on December 23, 1924, in Dedham, Iowa, to Thomas and Opal
(Bruce) Anderson. She graduated from Milford Consolidated High School in
1942. Evelyn married Clifford Lange on Dec. 17, 1943, in Nevada, Iowa.
They farmed at Ames, Iowa, until 1955 when they moved to a farm near
Adams, Minnesota. Some years later, they moved in to Adams where Evelyn
worked at Anderson Hardware for five years and then was a cook for 18
years at Southland Schools where she later became the head cook.
Evelyn's hobbies included sewing, cooking, playing cards, rug making, and
quilting. She was a member of Little Cedar Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clifford in 2004;
sons: Joe in 1978, and Ted in 2000; three grandsons: Bryce, Tom, and Tim;
son-in-law Marvin Jech; sisters: Irma Borts and Marion Sawers; and brothers:
Millard Anderson and Merrill Anderson.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter Janet Jech, Rochester, Minnesota;
son and daughter-in-law: Dano and Kathryn Lange, Rochester, Minnesota;
nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild;
brother-in-law Elmer (Johnny) Lange, Hawaii; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at
Little Cedar Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jeremy Johnson officiating.
Interment will be at Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home
and at the church on Saturday for one hour before the service.

Stephen James Hoag 1946-2015
Stephen James Hoag, 68, of Austin, Minnesota, died peacefully on
Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home, surrounded by his
loving family.
He was born June 26, 1946, in Austin, Minnesota, to Samuel and Dorothy
(Dunlap) Hoag. A lifelong Austin resident, Stephen graduated from Austin
High School in 1964. During his high school years, he worked at the Austin
Country Club because of his love for golf. He served his country in the
U.S. Army as a machine gunner in the Vietnam War, and received a Purple
Heart. While on leave from the service, Stephen married Linda Christopherson
on May 20, 1967, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. After he
was honorably discharged from the service, he was employed by Golden
Dairy, and later worked as a Parts Manager at Syverson Truck Center
in Rochester for many years.
Stephen was an avid golfer, receiving many awards for his achievements.
He loved fishing, especially with his buddies on opening weekend and hunting
with his friends and family. In earlier years, he enjoyed playing basketball
at the Shaw Gym. Later in life, he especially liked going for car rides
with his family in the country.
Stephen is survived by his wife Linda Hoag of Austin; his daughters,
Christyn (Brandon) McFarland and Chelsea (Brandon) Smith, both of Austin;
five grandchildren: Dylan, Jayden, Blake, Rylan, and Loren; two brothers,
Samuel (Nadine) Hoag of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Tim (Susie) Hoag of
Austin; his sister Sheila (David) Donahue of Brownsdale, Minnesota; and
many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Dorothy Hoag; and
two brothers Gerry and Patrick Hoag.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at
the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Elizabeth Endicott
officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 11,
2015, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to the service
on Tuesday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery with military rites by
V.F.W. Post 1216. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Hoag

Richard W. Youngmark 1947-2015
Richard W. Youngmark, 68, of Cleveland, Texas, died Sunday, May 3, 2015,
at his sister's residence in Urbandale, Iowa.
He was born March 10, 1947, in Van Nuys, California, to Walter and
Ione (Osland) Youngmark. Richard attended Austin Public Schools. He
enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1964, serving in the Vietnam War as an air
traffic controller until his honorable discharge in 1967.
On February 20, 1974, he was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Terry in Reno,
Nevada. To this union five daughters were born. Richard traveled the country
as a concession stand owner with various amusement companies, including
Butler Amusements, Candyland Amusements, and Pride of Texas Shows. He was
a member of the Showmen’s Association. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed
reading, playing poker, golfing and visiting various casinos.
Richard is survived by his wife Ruth Ann of Cleveland, Texas; his
daughters Deanna (Ted) Scott of Dayton, Texas, Lora Youngmark of Austin,
Minnesota, Mary Youngmark and Christine Youngmark, both of Cleveland,
Texas; 16 grandchildren; four sisters Linda Youngmark of Urbandale,
Iowa, Donna (Dave) Becker of Rushford, Minnesota, Peggy Youngmark of
Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Pam (Tim) Wagner of Austin, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Ione Youngmark,
his daughter Valerie in 1979, and two brothers Arden and Ron.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at
the Worlein Funeral Chapel in Austin with Chaplain Forrest Miller
officiating. There will be no visitation or reviewal. Interment will
be in Grandview Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 91
and VFW Post 1216. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral

Harriet Hoffman

Died: May 07, 2015
Harriet Hoffman, 91 of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, May 7, 2015 at
Cottagewood Senior Community, in Rochester, Minnesota.
Theodora Harriet Small was born March 13, 1924 at Lyle, Minnesota, the
daughter of John Edwin and Sadie Marie (Lastine) Small. Harriet graduated
from the Rose Creek High School and began working for the Geo. A. Hormel,
Co. On June 8, 1946, she married Wilford "Bud" Hoffman at St. Olaf Lutheran
Church in Austin. Harriet was a long time employee of Hormel Foods
Corporation, retiring after some 40 years of service.
Harriet was an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, often
working in the church kitchen and at the St. Olaf Diner at the Mower
County Fair.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford “Bud” Hoffman, son,
John Hoffman, and a brother, Gordon Lastine.
Harriet is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Kerry
Olson, Stewartville, Minnesota; granddaughter, Abby Buck, Rochester,
Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Hoffman, Nisswa, Minnesota; nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 12th at St. Olaf Lutheran
Church with Todd Portinga, AiM, officiating. Visitation will be at
Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and at the church
on Tuesday for one hour before the service. Inurnment will be at Oakwood
Cemetery on Thursday, May 14th at 3:30 PM. The family prefers memorials.

Terry Lee Hinrichs 1953-2015
Terry Lee Hinrichs, 61, passed away peacefully in his sleep of natural
causes on April 30, 2015.
Terry was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on October 3, 1953. He was
the first son born to Donald Clarence and Hazel Mae (Dailey) Hinrichs.
Terry's passion in life was music. He played a variety of instruments,
including electric guitars, mandolin, violin, banjo, organs, keyboards,
and acoustic guitars. In addition to playing music, he wrote his own music.
Terry was always part of a band, dating back to his younger years when he
had a basement band. He had many friends that he jammed with, which kept
him close to his music.
He was also able to pass his love of music on to
his family, and teach his nephews how to play the drums and guitar. He
played in many bands, including Back Yard Basement Band and Single Digit.
He was a butcher by trade and did that for many years before working for
Streaters, where he made many friends. Terry loved the outdoors and
spending time fishing. Terry was great joke teller and could make anyone
smile with his humor. Terry also served his country in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his daughters: Shawn (Jason Hultman) Hinrichs and
Crystal (Chet Johnson) Hinrichs; along with five grandchildren: Alec,
Dylan and Ashley Reinartz, Taylor Hinrichs and Jayden Nelson. He is also
survived by his brothers and sisters: William Czmowski of Hartland,
Minnesota, Debra Hinrichs of Kenyon, Minnesota, Donald (Dawn) Hinrichs of
Brook Park, Minnesota, Nancy Fraser of New Brighton, Minnesota, Joseph
Hinrichs of Portage, Wisconsin, Sherry (Jeff) Pulsipher of New Brighton,
Minnesota; along with many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews;
his music friends; his friends at Streaters; his friends in Hartland;
his special friend Naomi Wagness; and all those that knew Terry at any
time in his life. He was larger than life and made a lasting impression
on those he met during his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel; his father, Donald; his
grandmother, Marian; and his grandfather, William.
A special thank you to the Freeborn County Sheriff's Office, the town
of Hartland, and Worlein Funeral Home for all their help and understanding.

Margaret "Peggy" (Stockdale) ANDERSON 1928-2015
FREDERICKSBURG, IOWA - Margaret "Peggy" Anderson, 86, of Fredericksburg,
died at home Wednesday, November 12, 2014.
She was born September 26, 1928, in Brownsdale, Minnesota, the daughter of
Ernest and Mabel Ousterhus Stockdale. She married Raymond Anderson on
January 25, 1951, at the Cresco parsonage. He preceded her in death in 2013.
Peggy graduated from Chester High School in 1947. She had worked for the
Cresco Cafe, farmed with her husband and in Fredericksburg worked at Meinerz
Creamery/Beatrice Cheese until retiring in 1990. She was a member of
St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg.
Survived by her children, Joan (Alan) Peter of Cresco, Anon (Susie)
Anderson, Susan (Bob) Flansche, Mary (John) Woodring and Karen (Tom)

Preceded in death by her parents; a son, Alan Anderson; three brothers,
Louie Stockdale, Vernon Stockdale and Glenn Stockdale; and a sister, Evelyn
Eiffler.
Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church,
Fredericksburg, with private family inurnment at a later date at Orleans
Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ridgeway. Friends may greet the family from 4
to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home, Fredericksburg, and
also for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Linda L. Dahmen 1950-2015
Linda L. Dahmen, 64, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, May 8, 2015,
surrounded by her family at her residence in Austin.
She was born September 5, 1950, to Donald and Mary (Buchanan) Kolb
in Austin, Minnesota. Linda spent most of her life in Austin; she attended
schools in Austin and worked as a CNA at St. Marks Lutheran Home. She
loved to visit and go out to lunch with friends and family. AA was an
important part of her life and she celebrated nine years of sobriety.
After Linda suffered a lengthy illness, she moved into Pickett Place to
be closer to her daughters.
Survivors include her four children: Tammy Dahmen of Austin, April
Dahmen of Austin, Earl Dahmen of Mapleview, and Larry Jr. "Lash" (Jamie)
Dahmen of Colorado Springs; eight grandchildren: Tyler, Adam, Zach, Travis,
Dominique, Elijah, Kylie and Korbin; five sisters: Mary, Ann, Margaret,
Diane, Judy; and her special friends: Barbara Ann, Betty Ann and Alan.
She was loved by all of her nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and beloved sister Bonnie.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at
the Salvation Army Chapel in Austin. Visitation will be held one hour
before the service. Interment will be private. Memorials are preferred

Melvin Duane Haldorson 1929-2015
Melvin Duane Haldorson, 86, died on Sunday, May 10, 2015, at his home
in Austin, Minnesota.
Mel was born on February 22, 1929, in Freeborn County. His parents
were Martha (Holte) and Albert Haldorson of rural Austin. Mel attended
District No. 139 Country School of Freeborn County through eighth grade. He
attended Albert Lea High School and graduated from Austin High School in 1947.
Following high school, Mel worked as a mechanic for Wally Amacher in
London, Minnesota. From 1950 to 1952, Mel served his country in the US Army.
Following his duty of service, he attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis,
Minnesota. He graduated in 1956 with a degree in automotive service and
electric.
After his graduation, Mel opened his own business called H & S Carburetor
and Electric in Austin, Minnesota. He married Janet Majerus on Feb. 16, 1963.
Mel retired from H & S Carburetor in February 1998.
Mel enjoyed spending time playing golf, fishing and being with his two
sons and his three grandchildren. Mel was a member of the Elks, American
Legion and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by an infant son Bryce; his mother and father;
and a brother Obert.
Mel is survived by his wife Janet; his two sons: Brian (Sandy) Haldorson
of Rochester, Minnesota, and Tim (Shelby) Haldorson of Austin, Minnesota;
three grandchildren: Miranda Haldorson and Mitch Haldorson of Rochester,
Minnesota, and Meghan Haldorson of Austin, Minnesota; brother, Nordeen
(Mary Lou) Haldorson of Mankato, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a private memorial service for family with the Rev. Glenn
L. Monson officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Clasen-Jordan
Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Vernon E. Graff 1918-2015
Vernon E. Graff, 96, of Austin, Minnesota, died peacefully on Monday,
May 11, 2015, at Our House Memory Care, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born September 20, 1918, in Austin Township, to Ervin and Marie
Louise (Rieken) Graff. A lifelong Austin area resident, Vernon served his
country in the U.S. Army in World War II in the Pacific Theatre and New
Guinea from 1942-1945. After the war, he married Marie Cress on February
15, 1947. The couple raised eight children. Vernon worked for Hormel Foods
in Austin for 46 years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in
Austin, and was a loyal supporter of the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota
Twins. He especially enjoyed spending time with his entire family.
Vernon is survived by his children: Eugene Allen of Collinsville,
Illinois, Mary Lee (Robert) Ford of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Vernon "Butch"
(Paula) Graff of Bloomington, Minnesota, Thomas (Mary) Graff of Austin,
Minnesota, Marilyn (David) Benson of Bloomington, Minnesota, Jonathon
(Kristin) Graff of Austin, Minnesota, Margaret Graff of Edina, Minnesota,
Martha Kaderabek of Austin, Minnesota; 21 grandchildren, 35
great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of
other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marie Graff; his parents
Ervin and Marie Graff; one sister; five brothers; his daughter-in-law
Daisy Allen; and his son-in-law Dale Kaderabek.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Keith Kleis and
his nurse Lydia for their care, and the staff at Our House Memory Care
Facility for their kindness and compassion.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2015, at
St. Johns Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Robert Bailey officiating.
Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Austin, with military rites by

Roger Duane Severtson 1940-2015
Roger D. Severtson, 74, of rural Oakland, Minnesota, passed away at
his home surrounded by his family and friends on Saturday, May 9, 2015.
Roger Duane Severtson was born August 23, 1940, in Blue Earth,
Minnesota, to Selmer and Winnifred (Swift) Severtson. Roger was united
in marriage to Elna Mae Christianson on Feb. 15, 1964, at St. Olaf Lutheran
Church in Austin, Minnesota. Roger worked as an over-the-road truck driver
for several years and in 1975 he started his own contracting business,
which included remodeling homes, building new homes, garages and pouring
cement. He retired in 2003 due to failing health.
Roger was a member of Trondhjem Lutheran Church. He served in the
US Army Reserves and he was an adult 4-H leader. He enjoyed going to
the cabin, fishing and riding his four-wheeler.
He was preceded in death by his parents Selmer and Winnifred Severtson;
brothers: Luvern and Larry Severtson; and his mother and father-in-law Earl
and Edna Christianson.
Roger is survived by his wife, Elna Mae Severtson of rural Oakland,
Minnesota; sons and their families: Michael and Cindy Severtson and their
children, Ethan and Anna of rural Austin, Minnesota; Mark Severtson and
his children, Ty and Trace of rural Oakland, Minnesota; and Mark's
significant other, Kelly and her children, Robert, Gabby and Tim;
sister Beverly Busch of Claremont, Minnesota; sisters-in-law: Rose
Severtson of Prior Lake, Minnesota, and Donna (Larry) Greeley of Oakland,
Minnesota; brother-in-law Keith (Cindi) Christianson of rural Oakland,
Minnesota; and many special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, at Hayward
Lutheran Church with the Rev. Joel Erickson officiating. Interment will be
at Fairview Cemetery, Oakland, Minnesota. Visitation will be at the church

John M. Schaefer 1957-2015
John M. Schaefer, 58, of Montgomery, Minnesota, passed away on May
6, 2015, at The Lodge in Elko New Market.
John was born in Austin, Minnesota, on April 24 to Viola and Ken
Schaefer. He married Deb on February 3, 1990, at the Candle Light Chapel
in Las Vegas. After graduating from Austin Area Vocational Technical
Institute, John worked for a local farmer farrowing to finish pigs. His
love for farming came from his grandparents.
In 1983 he moved to the Twin
Cities and started working for a Ford dealer, working his way up to a
technician. John enjoyed Ham Radio, DJing for radio stations, dirt-bike
racing, antique tractor shows, getting together with good friends and
family.
He is survived by his wife, Deb of Montgomery; parents, Viola and Ken
of Austin; brother, Jim (Sue) of St. Paul; sister, Kathy (Mike) Aguilar
of Eagan; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by Almeda and Clarence Beireis; Alma Miller and
Richard Schaefer.
Visitation will be on Saturday, May 16, 2015, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the
Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. A funeral service will be on
Sunday, May 17, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Frieden Lutheran Church in New Prague
with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at the Frieden Lutheran

Timothy Gregory Heimer, 44, of the Austin, Minnesota, area, died Sunday,
May 10, 2015, at his sister's residence in Park Rapids, Minnesota.
He was born June 21, 1970, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Donald
and Mae (Cohenour) Heimer. After his graduation from Hayfield High School
in 1990, Timothy attended college at Riverland Technical School in Austin,
Minnesota, where he received his boiler license. He worked at Quality Pork
Processors, Inc. and Celestica. Timothy was a sports fanatic and loved to
watch them on TV. He loved to fish and enjoyed playing video games, golf,
Frisbee golf, swimming and playing chess. Tim had a special joy and passion
for cooking.
Timothy is survived by his parents Donald and Mae Heimer; his sister
Pamela (Steve) Benjamin of Park Rapids, Minnesota; his four children; one
niece Caitlin; two nephews: Matt and Matthew; his uncles, aunts; cousins
and a special aunt Paula.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; and his
aunt Mona.

Peter George Weiss 1941-2015
Peter George Weiss, 73, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, May 9,
2015, at Mayo Clinic Health System, Austin.
He was born November 18, 1941, in Austin to George B. and Jeneveria
(Paulson) Weiss. A lifelong resident of Austin, Peter attended Austin
Public Schools. He worked in construction for PCI for 18 years, retiring
in 1992. He loved to restore old furniture and was an avid hunter and
fisherman. His best buddy was Asher George, his Yorkshire terrier. He
especially loved his weekend getaways with his girlfriend Marian.
Peter is survived by his favorite granddaughter Bethany Weiss (Tyler
Feuerhak) of Austin; his nephew Bradley George of Austin; his very special
girlfriend Marian Grap of Austin; and his brother Benjamin ‘Bing’ (Mary)
Weiss of Virginia, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Jeneveria Weiss; and
his beloved daughter Melissa.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 18,

OBITUARY
Lucille Sarah (Bump) Ehmke, 88 of Austin, Minnesota, died at her
home on Tuesday, May 12, 2015.
Lucille was born on September 13, 1926 in Toeterville, Iowa to William
and Laura (Toeter) Bruggemann. She attended country school near St. Ansgar,
Iowa and graduated from Austin High School in 1944. She married Claude Bump
on June 1, 1947 at St. Johns Lutheran Parsonage by the Reverend W.F.
Milbrath. They were married for 53 years. Lucille married Martin Ehmke
at Our Saviors Lutheran Church on July 5, 2003. They enjoyed nearly 12
years of marriage together and especially loved spending winters in Phoenix,
Arizona where Lucille had wintered from 1978 through this past winter.
Lucille worked as an insurance agent at Austin State Bank for 27 years.
She loved flowers, specifically roses, and she enjoyed cooking. Throughout
her life, Lucille was a caretaker and very giving; she especially cared for
her mother, sister, and husbands.
She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary #27 where she served as
president and she was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Dorothy and Della,
and first husband Claude Bump.
Lucille is survived by her husband, Martin Ehmke, Austin, Minnesota;
stepchildren: Steven (Phyllis) Ehmke, Kansas City, Missouri, LaVerne Ehmke,
Rose Creek, Minnesota, Merlin (Lori) Ehmke, Waterloo, Indiana, and
Julie (Steve) Mullen, Rochester, Minnesota; and 17 step grandchildren
and nine step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 18th at Our
Saviors Lutheran Church with the Reverend Glenn L. Monson officiating.
Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday
from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and at the church on
Monday for one hour before the service.
Memorials may be designated to Disabled American Veterans or to the
donor's choice.

Larry Burton Rector 1932-2015
Larry Burton Rector, 83, of Lyle, Minnesota, died Tuesday, May 12,
2015, at Golden Living Center-Rochester West.
He was born April 10, 1932, in Rapidan, Minnesota, to Ralph and Lulu
(Wells) Rector. Larry grew up in Garden City where he attended school. On
August 21, 1965, he married Carol Mae Hafermann in Lydia, Minnesota. The
couple raised two sons. Larry and Carol lived in Dodge Center until 1968,
moving to Austin where they lived until 1971 before moving to the farm in
Lyle. Over the years Larry farmed, hauled milk, worked construction, and
drove semi. He hauled pipe for Elk River and brought and hauled pigs for the
Dillavous. He served as business manager for the local construction union.
An associate member of the Lyle American Legion, Larry enjoyed working
on farm machinery. He loved the work of the farm and the outdoors. For
the last 25 years of his career, Larry worked at the Community College
in Austin in the Buildings and Grounds department, retiring in 1994. In
his free time, Larry enjoyed watching westerns, rodeos, and boxing. He
will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Larry is survived by his wife Carol of Lyle, Minnesota; his sons:
Daniel (Amy) Rector and Jack (Sheri) Rector, both of Rochester, Minnesota;
his grandchildren: Emma and Adam; and two brothers: Charles Rector of Austin
and Allen (Juanita) Rector of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Lulu Rector; his
brother Jack Rector; his sister Dorothy (Charles) Bartholomew; and his
sister-in-law Dorothy Rector.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2015,
at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church in Lyle with the Rev. Scott Meyer
officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May
14, 2015, at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to
the service at the church on Friday.

R.D. "Bob" Boomgard 1929-2015
R.D. "Bob" Boomgard, age 90, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, May
12, 2015 at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, Minnesota. He was born
March 7, 1925 in rural Dodge Center, Minnesota to John and Hildur (Peterson)
Boomgard. Bob attended a rural one room school for 8 years, and then went
to West Concord High School, graduating in 1943. After being drafted and
serving in World War II in Alaska, he was honorably discharged in November
1946. On January 2, 1947 Bob accepted employment for the International
Harvester and Packard Automobile dealership in Austin.
In 1948 Bob married Delora Exe in Hayfield, Minnesota and to that union
a son Gregg was born in 1955. In 1958 he changed occupations and joined
the Federated Mutual Insurance Company as a sales representative in the
Mower and Dodge County areas and served his clients until January 2, 1989.
They had a home built in Tofte, Minnesota on the North Shore of Lake
Superior, where he enjoyed going both winter and summer. Bob's hobbies
were woodworking and Mr. Fix It. He also took great interest in caring
for the Tofte Town Park, including restoring cobblestone bridges and
waterway. The Tofte Historical Society Fisherman Museum used some of
his fix-it-up talent. Bob was a charter member of the Austin Male Chorus
in 1952 and sang with them for 36 years. He was the president twice and
was chosen an officer of The Associated Male Choruses of America for several
years.
In 1960 he became a member of the Austin Lions Club where he held
several offices and was elected President in 1973. He held a position
as an officer of the Austin-Albert Lea Life Association and was ordained
a Deacon of The United Church of God-Austin.
Bob is survived by his wife Delora of Austin, his son Gregg of Duluth,
Minnesota, grandson Brandon, and sister-in-law Maxine Lundene of Austin. He
was preceded in death by his parents John and Hildur Boomgard.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2015 at
the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor David Schreiber
officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service
at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Old Concord Cemetery, West

Louise Ida (Stender) Pickett 1929-2015
Louise I. Pickett, 86, of Rochester, Minnesota, formerly of Austin,
Minnesota, died Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Cottagewood Senior Community
facility in Rochester.
Louise Ida Stender was born March 5, 1929, in Wykoff, Minnesota, to
Louis and Meta (Evers) Stender and was raised in the Fillmore County
area. She attended a one-room country school near Wykoff through the
eighth grade. Louise graduated from Wykoff High School, worked on the
family farm and as a homemaker, where she learned the value of hard work
which she carried with her throughout her life.
She later received her home health certification and worked as a home
health aide. She also enjoyed working at the Mower County Fair. On October
20, 1954, she was united in marriage to David Pickett in Wykoff. The couple
raised four children. Louise and David moved to Austin in 1954 and became
members of Grace Lutheran Church, where Louise was a Circle member, sang
in the choir, volunteered and was the church janitor with David. Louise
was very neighborly, enjoyed working, and would never shy away from a
difficult task.
She liked flowers, gardening, sewing, quilting, cooking, canning and
home decorating. She enjoyed baking birthday cakes and cookies for her
children, grandchildren and many relatives. She touched the lives of so
many and was loved and adored by all who knew her. Louise was a willing
servant to many people and the Lord. She was everyone’s angel. She will be
greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Louise is survived by her children: Allen (Kim) Pickett of Rochester,
Donald (Deitra) Pickett of Stewartville, Timothy (Terri) Pickett of
Rochester, and Becky (Bradley) Massop of New Hope, Minnesota; nine
grandchildren: Donald Jr. (Skip), Daniel, Katie, Nikki, Jacob, Kristen,
Jordyn, Evan and Lauren; four great-grandchildren; Dominic, Quinn, Kaia,
and Roman; her sister Nelta Stender of Wykoff; along with many other
relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Meta Stender; her
husband David Pickett in 2007; her sister Alice and her in-laws Paul and
Florence Pickett.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2015, at
Grace Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Jeffrey Forbes officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, at Ranfranz

Sheila Anne Ryan 1951-2015
Obituary for Sheila Anne Ryan
Sheila Anne Ryan, age 64, of Charlestown, Massachusetts, and formerly
of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the home of
her sister, Barbara, in Austin. Prior to her passing she was cared for
by her loving sisters, Carol, Barbara, and Patti.
Sheila was born January 13, 1951 in Austin to George and Edith (Jahn)
Ryan. She grew up in Austin and attended St. Augustine Grade School and
Pacelli High School until her senior year when the family moved to Albert
Lea. Sheila graduated from Albert Lea High School.
Sheila graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a
Bachelors degree in Special Education. She then obtained a Masters degree in
Early Childhood Development from Simmons College in Boston, MA and went on
to teach Special Needs Children in the Boston Public School System. A
highlight of Sheila's life was the contribution she made to the lives
of the children she taught.
Sheila's greatest joys in life were her family, friends, and working
with children. Her passion in life was travel. She loved to cruise. Sheila
traveled extensively in Europe and visited her family’s ancestral homeland,
Ireland.
Survivors include four sisters, Sharon (Dale) Berg, Arlington Heights,
Illinois, Patricia Macek, Austin, Minnesota, Carol (Dennis) Medo, Plymouth,
Minnesota; Barb Hage, Austin, Minnesota; seven nieces and nephews; nine
great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Edith Ryan; her
eldest sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Don Urlich.

away Sunday, April 12, 2015.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Wanda, sister Norine, brother Fay
and parents Paul and Gertrude.
He is survived by his children, John (Jill), Paul David (Barbara) and
Deborah; grandchildren, Jake, Brittney, Hollie, Ryan and Andrea;
great-grandchildren, Taiyden, Amberlyn and Silas; brothers, Ross (Lois),
Guy (Marcella) and Harry; sister-in-law, Della; and many nieces, nephews
and good friends.
Paul graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1950 with a degree
in engineering after proudly serving his country in the Navy. He met his
future wife Wanda while working at the Automic Energy Plant in Piketon.
He went on to work at several construction companies in the Columbus
area until his retirement.
He loved to cook and was also an avid golfer who enjoyed watching
and playing the game. He will be remembered as a great husband, father,
son and brother and will be truly missed by all.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 20 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the
MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 East Schrock Road, Westerville, Ohio, where
the service will follow at 1 p.m. Rev. David Redding officiating.
Interment Northlawn Memory Gardens.

Laurie Kay (Nipp) Royer, age 53, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Friday, May 15,
2015 at her home surrounded by her family after a long battle with a rare
cancer.
Laurie was born December 2, 1961 in Madison, South Dakota, to Virgil and
Bonnie Nipp. She grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School,
and attended Wesleyan College in Bartelsville, Oklahoma.
Laurie married Tim Amick of Brownsdale, Minnesota, and gave birth to three
children, Daysha, Cierra, and Dakota. She lived in Arizona before moving
back to Minnesota. Laurie graduated from Riverland Community College in
the Nursing Program. She married Jim Royer on June 1, 1996. Laurie lived
in the Austin area and worked as a Home Health Nurse. She enjoyed living
the farm life, camping, fishing, music, and cooking. Her children and
grandchildren were her world. Holidays were a special time for her. She
had a very strong faith and was a member of Crane Community Chapel. Laurie
was diagnosed with bile duct cancer on December 2, 2013 and fought a tough
battle before being called home.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Royer, Austin; children, Daysha
(Josh) Seha, Austin, Cierra (Ben) Brown, Austin, Dakota (Gloria) Amick,
Austin, Daylynn (Justin) Kirk, Denver, Colorado; adopted daughter, Ashley Meyer,
Hayfield; mother, Bonnie Nipp, Lansing; 10 grandchildren; two brothers,
William (Karma) Nipp, Austin, Gary (Sheila) Nipp, Austin; sister, Lisa
(Andy) Cheng, Austin; her extended family includes five step children;
nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father, Virgil; step son, Terry Royer.

Obituary
Sandra Kaye Dunn, age 76 of Brownsdale, Minnesota, died Wednesday,
May 13, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System Rochester, Saint Marys Campus,
surrounded by her loving family.
Sandra Kaye Sheldon was born July 1, 1938 in Osage, Iowa to Leonard E.
and Beulah (Molstad) Sheldon. An Austin High School graduate, she worked
as a waitress at the Country Kitchen and the Plant Cafe. On October 6,
1969, Sandra was united in marriage to Loren E. Dunn in Wyanet, Illinois.
The couple raised one daughter. Following their marriage, Sandy and Loren
lived south of Austin before moving to the Lyle area in 1982. In 1986,
they moved back to the Austin area.
After Loren's death in 1988, Sandy worked at the Austin Medical Center
in housekeeping and as a seamstress. She moved to Brownsdale in 2010.
Sandy attended area Lutheran churches and was a member of the Lyle American
Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting items for the Lyle Cancer Auction,
gardening, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Sandy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her daughter Teresa (Russell) Slowinski of Lyle,
Minnesota; four grandchildren Daniel Slowinski (Lindsey Dufner), Benjamin
(Bailey) Slowinski, Matthew Slowinski, Nevaeh Slowinski; one great-grandchild
Max Slowinski; special "grandchild" Lilly Medorio; her brother Leonard
Sheldon, Jr. of Austin, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Beulah Sheldon,
her step-father Harley Johnson, her husband Loren Dunn, grandson Anthony
Slowinski, and four brothers Merlyn, Duane, Kenneth, and Leon Sheldon.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2015 at
the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Gerald Giese
officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday,
May 21, 2015 at Worlein Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service
on Friday. Interment will be in London Cemetery. Worlein Funeral Home

Marjorie Irene Heiny, 92, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, May 15,
2015, at St. Marks Living, Austin, Minnesota.
She was born November 12, 1922, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Edward and
Millie (Lerum) Wangen. The family moved to Austin where Marjorie attended
Austin Public Schools and graduated from Austin High School in 1940. She
moved to St. Paul and worked as a bookkeeper before returning to Austin
to marry Ivan Victor Heiny upon his return from the Pacific Theater in
World War II. The couple raised three children: Dean, Jan, and Bruce.
Margie was an active member of First United Methodist Church, the
Koinonia (Questers) couple's club, Bible study group, and Methodist Circle.
Marge worked for the Mower County Sheriff's Department and assisted three
Mower County Sheriffs -- Carmen Halstenson, Nolan Dugan, and Wayne Goodnature.
She volunteered for the American Red Cross for several decades and was also
a volunteer for the St. Olaf Hospital Auxiliary.
Marge was an excellent cook and homemaker. Family was the center of her
world, and all those lucky enough to be part of her family felt loved, valued,
and supported. Holidays were a highlight with good food, laughter, and
fun. Marjorie provided much unsung gracious support and love in helping to
raise six grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren will forever cherish
the lessons learned from her gentle wisdom and subtle Norwegian humor.
Marjorie never stopped learning. She began taking piano lessons and
learned to golf in her 60s. She was an avid reader and loved crossword
puzzles. She loved to play cards, especially bridge and 500, and was known
for her calm demeanor when playing a grand slam hand, or making a 10 bid
in 500. She enjoyed fishing on the Caribou Trail with son Dean and joining
him for the sunrise on Green Lake.
Marjorie is survived by her children: Dean of New London, Minnesota,
Jan (Jack) Waller of Austin, Minnesota, and Bruce (Danielle) Heiny of
Austin, Minnesota; Grandchildren Joe Waller, Jim Waller and Jane (Waller)
Wisker, Ruth (Heiny) Donahue, Julia (Heiny) Dankworth, Eric Heiny;
great-grandchildren Sabin and Everett Donahue; Jack and Benjamin Wisker;
Nora Waller; brother, Rev. Russell (Norma) Wangen of Austin; sisters-in-law,
Fran Wangen of Phoenix, Arizona, Florence Wangen of Spicer, Minnesota;

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ivan V. Heiny,

Elaine Jessie Mentel, 83, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, May 18,
2015 at Sacred Heart Care Center.
Elaine was born on June 20, 1931 in Moscow, Minnesota to Isadore and
Jessie (Hayes) Peterson. She met Clarence Mentel at the Terp Ballroom.
They were married on June 2, 1956 at St. Augustine Church. They moved
to rural Austin in 1960. Elaine enjoyed watching birds, gardening,
flowers, and cooking. In her spare time, she collected recipes, wrote
letters, magazine shopped, and embroidered many blankets, dish towels
and pillow cases. Elaine baked almost everyday while the kids were growing
up, such as bread and donuts and she also canned every year.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence, brothers:
Arnold, Russell, and Gordon; sisters: Norma, Maxine, and Inez.
Elaine is survived by her sons: Dan Mentel, Austin, Minnesota; Mike
(Betsy) Mentel, Austin, Minnesota; Robert (Alyssa) Mentel, Austin,
Minnesota; daughters: Marlys (Derek) Lerum, Austin, Minnesota; Ruth
(Brett) Carpenter, Zimmerman, Minnesota; grandsons: Chad Mentel, Travis
Wytaske, Joe Mentel, Dustin Lerum and Jacob (Jen) Carpenter; granddaughters:
Nicole (Brett) Anderson, Sara Mentel, Taylor Wytaske, Cerise Lerum,

Vlasta Johnson, 87, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, May 18th,
2015 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Albert Lea. Vlasta had been living
at the Whispering Oak Assisted Living Community in Ellendale.
Vlasta Hrabak was born August 7, 1927 in London Township of Freeborn
County, the daughter of Josef and Wilhelmina (Kopp) Hrabak. She graduated
from Austin High School. Vlasta worked as a secretary for the Charles Fox
Candy Company in Austin. She was married to Dale Alden Johnson on June
22, 1947 at London, Minnesota.
Vlasta was a long time member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. After
starting her family she was a "stay at home" wife and mother. She enjoyed
sewing and knitting and playing cards with the neighbors. Vlasta loved
spending time with the grandchildren and the great grandchildren, enjoying
their many sleepovers at "Grandma V's."
She was preceded in death by her husband Dale.
Vlasta is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Darlane and Robert
Muilenburg, Hollandale, Minnesota, Diane and Michael Runtsch, Forest Lake,
Minnesota, Deloris and Steven Ashton, Blooming Prairie, Minnesota; nine
grandsons and wives, Chad and Allison Muilenburg, Mark and Holly
Muilenburg, Adam Muilenburg, Kyle and Cathy Runtsch, Brendt Runtsch,
Nathan Runtsch, Ryan and Jordan Ashton, Derek Ashton and Tyler and Danica

Carol Ann Foster, 58 of Austin, Minnesota, died on Monday, May 18,
2015 at Comforcare Good Samaritan Society in Austin after a very brief
battle with ocular melanoma of the liver.
Carol was born on January 8, 1957 at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin,
Minnesota to Victor and Angela (Kloeckner) Jensen. She attended Sacred
Heart School in Adams, Minnesota and graduated from Southland High School.
After graduation, she attended Riverland Community College in Austin. Carol
married Lowell Foster on August 21, 1982 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church
in Adams. Carol was a bookkeeper for Kestner Electric.
Carol enjoyed caring for her flowers in her backyard flowerbeds,
gardening, reading, shopping, and spending time with family, friends
and Walter (Kelly and Garrett's black lab). She was a member of Queen
of Angels Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Angela Jensen.
Carol is survived by her husband of 32 years, Lowell Foster, Austin,
Minnesota; daughters and sons-in-law: Kristen and Luke Green, Sartell,
Minnesota, and Kelly and Garrett Erstad, Austin, Minnesota; brother and

John F. "Jack" Meyers 1941-2015
John F. "Jack" Meyers, Ph.D., 74, of Mountain Top, Pennsylvania,
died Tuesday following a brief, yet hard-fought battle with lung cancer.
Jack was born February 25, 1941, in LeRoy, Minnesota, a son of the late
Francis Rudolph and Lucille A. Carroll Meyers. Jack earned his B.A. from
the University of Minnesota, M.A. from Clark University and Ph.D. from
the University of Southern Mississippi.
Jack retired as Registrar of Wilkes University in 2001. At Wilkes, Jack
was known as a trouble shooter and understood the school so well that he
was called upon to play varied roles when special needs arose throughout
his career. As such, through his tenure he served in many positions
including dean of admissions, associate dean of academic affairs, director
of graduate programs, director of summer, evening and part-time programs,
director of continuing education, director of weekend programs, a program
which he started there, and even served as freshman basketball coach for
the 1970-1971 season. As a specialist in American colonial history and
the American early national period, he was most proud of his role as a
teacher and advisor. He truly enjoyed his years at Wilkes and always had a
story about something that happened there.
In his retirement, Jack really enjoyed golf, reading and shopping. He
was a sale shopper and enjoyed finding great bargains for friends and
family, particularly clothing for his grandchildren and shoes for his
daughter. He also enjoyed traveling to Mississippi or Alabama each winter
for the warm weather.
Jack will be greatly missed by his daughter, Lee and her husband Vinnie
Pollaro and their children, Ethan and Amelia of Wellsboro; longtime
companion, Mary Ann Merrigan of Hazleton, her son Eamon and his wife
Leslie and their children Cami and Cavan; brother, Don Meyers of Minneapolis,
Minnesota; sister, Jean and her husband Tom Clagg of Fort Wayne, Indiana;
nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
A celebration of Jack's life took place Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at
McLaughlin's, 142 South Washington Street in Wilkes-Barre and continued
with a funeral mass May 13 in the Church of Saint Nicholas. Memories and

Herman C. Olsen 1848-1909
HERMAN C. OLSEN.
Herman C. Olsen of this city died Sunday afternoon,
February 21, 1909, at his home in this city of heart trouble, after
extended illness. Age about 61 years.
He was born in Norway March 13, 1848. He served two
years in the Norway naval service and five years in the merchant marine.
He came to Austin in 1876 and his home has been here nearly all the time.
He was an expert cabinet maker and joiner and at one time was in partnership
with J.M. Malmberg and worked for S. O. Olson and other furniture mean here
for many years.
On November 22, 1875, he was married to Miss Amalie Hirsch
of Lyle. Five children were born to them, four of them living: Clara of
Los Angeles, California; Arthur of Leeds, North Dakota; Thelma and Floy
[aka Floyda] of Austin. The widow also survives.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church and was a man of
quiet disposition, upright in life and faithful to his trust. He was an
Odd Fellow and a Macabbee.
Funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church yesterday
afternoon. Interment in Oakwood.

Austin friends were grieved to learn of the death of Miss
Floyda Olsen, which occurred at 8 o'clock Sunday evening at the home of
her brother, Arthur W. Olsen in Red Wing, Minnesota. Death was due to
heart disease. She was taken ill six weeks ago.
Miss Olsen was born in Austin and attended the schools
of the city. She moved to Knox, North Dakota, five years ago. She
graduated from the Valley City Normal school and taught at Fahenah, North
Dakota.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Herman Olsen, two
sisters and one brother, Mrs. Arthur Briggs of Oakland, California, Miss
Helma Olsen and Arthur W. Olsen of Red Wing. Her father, who was in the
furniture business in Austin died six years ago.
The body will be brought to Austin for burial and taken
to the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Earl where funeral srevices will be held
Thursday afternoon at four o'clock, Rev. Hoff of Red Wing officiating.
The body will be accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Herman
Olsen, Miss Helma Olsen, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Olsen and Rev. E. C. Hoff.
Mrs. Arthur Briggs will arrive from Oakland, California, Thursday morning
to attend the funeral. Miss Hilda Hanson of Fergus Falls, Minnesota,
comes tonight and Dr. and Mrs. S.H. Olsen of Milaca, Minnesota, are also
expected.
Miss Olsen was a cousin of Mrs. W. R. Earl and Mrs. John
Ober of this city.
She had many friends and was well thoguht of by all who
knew her. In the home circle she was a favorite and will be greatly missed.

NOTES: Floyda was born abt. 1890 in Austin, Minnesota, to Herman C. and
Amelia "Hirsch" Olsen, died 5-16-1915 Red Wing, Minnesota. She was buried
in Oakwood Cemetery.
