Cyrilla Elizabeth Rockers
November 28, 1916 - February 7, 2015
Obituary for Cyrilla Elizabeth Rockers
Cyrilla Elizabeth Rockers, age 98, of Austin, Minnesota, passed from
this life on February 7, 2015 at Good Samaritan Society Comforcare.
Cyrilla Mueller was born on November 28, 1916 -- the firstborn of 13
children to John and Elizabeth Mueller. She grew up on a farm in the
German-speaking community of Meyer, Iowa, during the Great Depression
years, and moved to Austin in 1938 to work as a house-keeper and cook
for the H. H. Corey family. She married Robert Rockers (originally from
Kansas) June 22, 1940, and they began raising their family in and around
Austin, interrupted by Bob's service in the Pacific during World War II.
Bob and Cyrilla were active in Queen of Angels and St. Augustine parishes
and their children all graduated from Pacelli High School. One of Cyrilla's
proud accomplishments was that she earned her GED later in life. She loved
to cook and bake, and her family prized her homemade breads and gooey
caramel rolls. She cooked for the sisters at the Pacelli convent for
several years, and was a member of the Sacred Heart Care Center Auxiliary,
Legion of Mary, and W.C.C.W. of St. Augustine's Church.
Cyrilla was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bob in 1990, an
infant daughter Mary, dearest grandchildren John Trudeau, and Angela and
Heather Rockers. Also preceding her in death were siblings John (infant),
Viola, Evelyn (Brumm), Marvin, and Emil, and many special sister-in laws
and brother-in-laws.
She is survived by nine children, Karen (David) Trudeau, Dio (Myrna)
Rockers, Linda (Bruce) Schirmers, Peggy (Steve Lukassen) Larson, Vicki
(Arlo) Sanvick, Tim (Marti) Rockers, Mike (Lori) Rockers, Dan (Betty)
Rockers, and Mario (Cyndee See) Rockers. She is also survived by siblings
Elmer (Mary) Mueller, Delphin (Mary Ann) Mueller, Lavern (Gloria) Mueller,
Maxine Halbach, Irene Hemann, Anita Adams, and Mary (Red) Mullenbach.
Cyrilla also leaves behind twenty-one grandchildren, forty-two
great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild -- as well as numerous
nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
She was filled with common sense, love, and wisdom. Her wry wit and
modest strength will be deeply missed -- but lovingly remembered in every
hand-stitched quilt and crocheted afghan she created for each of her
children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
"Well done, good and faithful servant!..." MATTHEW 25:21

Ruby Snyder 1905-1919
RUBY SNYDER DEAD
Little Girl Dies From Effects
of a Fall From Her Pony
A sad accident occurred in our city Thursday evening, about 9 o'clock, when Ruby Snyder, who was riding near her home on Gleason Avenue in Park Place, in some way was thrown from her pony. She was found unconscious by a neighbor, Mr. Miller, who carried her to her home. Her injuries were found to be serious.
There were bruises on her head and breast, and her shoulder was broken. Practically she never regained consciousness and died Friday evening at 6:30.
How the accident occurred is a mystery as the pony is considered one of the most gentle in our city. All the children drove and rode it and no anxiety was felt when the pony was with the children. There were no witnesses to the accident, but it looks as if Ruby was thrown off backward and then kicked by the animal. Mr. Miller must have found the child soon after the accident occurred. Ruby was taken to the hospital on Friday where her death occurred at 6:30.
Ruby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Snyder, was fourteen years old the 28th of January. The family had resided in Park Place for the past three years and Ruby has attended school in Austin and was a member of the Lutheran Sunday School. She leaves beside father and mother, six brothers and sisters. To these, great sympathy goes out in their loss and sorrow.
The funeral will be heald tomorrow afternoon at one o'clock from the house and at 1:30 from St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

NOTES: Ruby was born 1-04-1905 to Harry and Anna "Evenson" Snyder

Adeline Irene (Gronseth) Moen 1919-2015
Adeline I. Moen, 95, formerly of Austin, died Tuesday, February 17, 2015,
in Red Wing, Minnesota, with her son and daughter at her side.
Adeline Irene Gronseth was born June 23, 1919, in rural Mower County,
Minnesota, the daughter of Albert and Emma (Hanson) Gronseth. She was a
graduate of Austin High School. On April 6, 1946, Adeline and Willard L.
Moen were married in Hayfield. The couple made their home in Austin, and
they owned the W.L. Moen Construction Company. Adeline worked as a
secretary, held open houses for their Wausau Homes, and manned their
booth at the spring home shows.
They moved a lot as coming lookers wanted
to see house plans, and ended up buying their home. Adeline and Willard
were members of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, where Adeline taught
Sunday school, Bible school, and belonged to the Altar Guild, WELCA, and
circle. She volunteered on Thursday mornings and enjoyed the Gold Band
Club. Adeline's favorite pastimes included early morning walks, bowling,
dancing, and most of all having the grandchildren come for overnight stays.
She would slide with them on cardboard boxes down Nob Hill, barely
missing landing in Turtle Creek. She also enjoyed sitting on the lawn
with her grandchildren, looking for four-leaf clovers, taking them on
picnics, canoeing on Turtle Creek, making sand castles on the shores of
the Caribbean, playing board games, and seeing their expressions as they
crossed the walking bridge for the first time.
She regretted never learning to pitch a ball for her grandson, who was
seldom seen without a ball in one hand and a bat in the other. Adeline
loved making breakfasts for the grandkids, as they never tired of eating
a big helping of eggs, bacon, toast and fruit. Often she would give them
change to buy a treat for themselves and they instead would surprise grandma
by buying her a gift. Adeline made lasting friendships with her
grandchildren's friends as she gave them rides to their many activities.
Survivors include her son Barry (Deborah) Moen of Red Wing, Minnesota;
her daughter Vae Fossey of Wheeling, Illinois; six grandchildren: Nichole
(Pete) Bell, Lee Gunnar (Heather) Moen, Jamie (Tim) Sampey, Karin (Eric)
Warden, Ryan Fossey, and Britt Fossey; eight great-grandchildren: Caden,
Loden, Brooke, Courtney, Kennedy, Karsyn, Kolton, and Brady; two brothers:
James (Janice) Gronseth of Kasson, Minnesota, and Wallace Gronseth of Adams,
Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Emma Hanson;
her husband Willard Moen in November 1980; three brothers: Stanley
Gronseth, Charles Gronseth, and Archie Gronseth; three sisters: Francis
Martin, Shirley Winholt, and Alice Meiners.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2015,

Kathryn Jean "Kay" (Lunde) Erickson
Born: March 26, 1925
Died: February 21, 2015
Kathryn Jean (Kay) Erickson passed away peacefully at Mayo Clinic
Health System in Austin, Minnesota, on Saturday, February 21, 2015.
She was born on March 26, 1925, to Christian and Florence (Paulsen) Lunde.
Kay graduated from St. Thomas (N.D.) High School and earned a B. A. in Social
Work from the University of North Dakota. While in college she was a member
of Kappa Alpha Theta social sorority, Sigma Alpha Iota music honor sorority,
and Phi Beta Kappa. Following her graduation in 1946, she worked at the
University of Chicago.
She married Arnold O. (Arne) Erickson of Petersburg, North Dakota. in 1948. They lived in Petersburg for 45 years where Kay was a homemaker and Arne owned and operated the Petersburg Supply Company, a Chevrolet and fuel bulk delivery dealership which Arne's father established in 1928. Upon retirement, they spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona. Kay and Arne moved to Oakdale, Minnesota, in 1993 and then to Austin in 2004. Arne passed away in 2005.
Kay was always musically involved as a singer and pianist in the schools and churches she attended, and frequently accompanied her sons. She enjoyed singing in the Nelson County (N.D.) Chorus and in ensembles in Grand Forks, especially when "Messiah" was the featured work. Kay was also active in the Petersburg Civic Club and played a variety of roles in their community theater productions. Family was always on her mind. She was so very proud of every family member's choices and accomplishments.
Kay never denied that she had a sweet tooth. During her Austin years, a favorite treat was pie from Kenny's Oak Grill. The perfect ending to a day of appointments was stopping by Kenny's to buy a slice of coconut cream pie - to go. Frequently she would call ahead just to make sure they had a piece left in the cooler.
For the last year and a half, Kay had been living at Primrose Retirement Center in Austin. She had become part of the fabric of that community and relished her social opportunities. Many thanks to the residents and staff for their excellent care and for keeping her mind and body involved and active. Similarly, we extend our gratitude to the nurses and doctors of the third floor ICU at the Austin hospital. We appreciated your care-filled attention to both patient and family.
