Morten W. Kellogg
July 13, 1938 - April 22, 2014
Morten W. Kellogg, 75 of Taopi, Minnesota, died Tuesday, April 22,
2014 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus, Rochester, Minnesota.
Morten Winfred Kellogg was born July 13, 1938 at Forest City, Iowa, the
son of Charles Robert and Agnes (Mortenson) Kellogg. He spent his early
years in the Crystal Lake area. In 1944 the Kellogg family moved to
Clayton Township where he lived his entire life. Mort attended Country
School at the District #74 School and he graduated from the Adams High
School. He attended the University of Minnesota, St Paul campus for
agriculture.
He was married to Marlene Wierson on June 22, 1956 at
LeRoy, Minnesota. They made their home in the Taopi area where they
raised their four children, Cindy, Randy, Becky and Scott.
Mort's life passion was farming; he farmed for many years with his
dad, brother Jim and son Randy. In 1986 he began selling machinery for
Osmundson Brothers in Adams, which he did very well, cuz we all know he
liked to talk! You could ask him directions to anywhere and he could tell
you, using the map directions or the directions his kids could understand.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He
enjoyed watching his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids grow up, he liked
attending any event that they were a part of and he was very proud of each
and every one of them. He served as a Cub Scout leader in the 80's when
Scott was in Cub Scouts. Mort was a lifetime member of the Marshall
Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He also served in the
Clayton Township Board until retiring in 2012 after 30 years.
In 1995 Mort suffered a stroke, but that didn’t slow him down. He used
his golf cart to get around and loved to travel and visit. He had his
gardens, that is where you could usually find him and he was very proud
of everything he grew. He taught his family very well, "never say
never," "don't give up," or "I can't do that."
When asked how he was doing you would get a "fair to middling."
In October of 2013 Mort entered the Adams Health Care Center where
he lived until the time of his death from complications of pneumonia on
April 22, 2014 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. God Bless
His Soul.

into the Lutheran faith at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church. He attended
school near Corning, Minnesota, which was known as 72 Joint. Art recalled
that in 1918, when word arrived at the school that World War I had ended,
the students walked from the school to Corning carrying American flags for
a ceremony. He was in the first-grade.
Arthur married Mildred Anderson on June 11, 1936, at the First Lutheran
Church Parsonage in Blooming Prairie. Devoted to each other and determined
to succeed as farmers, Art and Mildred prospered for over 60 years. They

Canada as well as the United States. Art served on the Udolpho Township
Board for 14 years, and served two years as Chairman of the Board for the
Country School No. 60 in Udolpho Township, which at the time was involved
in the consolidation process with the Blooming Prairie School District. He
also served the First Lutheran Church as a trustee for three years, a deacon
for two years, and an usher and financial secretary for many years. In June
2011, Arthur moved to Prairie Manor Care Center.

Terrance Norman Dilley 1940-2014
Terrance Norman Dilley, 73, of Austin, died Friday, April 25, at home,
surrounded by his family.
Terry was born on May 20, 1940, in Huron, South Dakota, to Norman and Marian
Dilley. After moving many times throughout his childhood (his father was
in the grocery business), Terry graduated from high school in Pierre, South
Dakota. He attended Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and St. Johns
University in Collegeville, Minnesota, before graduating with a degree in
sociology from South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota.
Terry's remarkable life path included a stint in the monastery. Though
he never took final vows (a happy fact for his otherwise non-existent
children), he was a novice in the Order of St. Benedict and lived, worked,
and worshipped with the brothers at St. John's in Collegeville, as well as
at Blue Cloud Abbey near Marvin, South Dakota.
Not long after leaving monastic life, he met the first great love of
his life, Ann Kelly. They married in 1965 and had three children, Sean,
Erin, and Sheila. Ann preceded him in death by 10 years.
To the joy of his family, in 2006 Terry met the second great love of his
life, Marijo Alexander. She was his cherished companion for the next eight
years, and she was at his side when he passed away. Simply put, they made
a great team.
Terry was a man of effortless charm, wicked humor, and profound erudition
on nearly any topic in philosophy, art, literature, or history. He loved
languages and devoted himself to studying German, French, Latin, and Greek.
He was also a devoted fan of Yiddish and peppered his speech with colorful
expressions that were no part of his South Dakota upbringing.
For many years it was rare to see Terry without a camera in his hands.
Using his antique Leica or trusty Nikon, he documented everything around
him. Along with his friend Jack Herzog, Terry tramped the grounds of the
Hormel Nature Center, snapping gorgeous black and white photos that would
be at home in any Ansel Adams collection.
Tennis was another important part of Terry's life. Never fleet of foot,
he was, however, a master of the off-speed slice and the crafty angled
drop-shot. He and Dave Dickinson co-coached the college tennis team for
years, and they made a formidable doubles duo themselves in their dashing
"Gilligan's Island" caps.
A drummer from age 13, Terry had to be driven to his first gigs by his
parents. (He was mortified.) He often performed in Austin, accompanying
the locally celebrated "Spamettes" and playing in productions at
the college. He didn't particularly love musical theater, but he was always
happy to lend his “chops” if he was needed.
Above all, Terry was a teacher. Teaching was his life's mission, and he
never tired of it. He joined the faculty of Austin Junior College before
the current building had even been constructed, and over the next 48 years
he taught thousands of students how to think critically and read hungrily.
If you have ever lived in Austin, and you know logic, you likely have Terry
to thank.
In 2013, Terry received an honorary doctorate in recognition of his
unflagging dedication to his students and to Riverland Community College.
Never one to preen, he limited his speech to a tight 60 seconds and credited
his success to his students and his colleagues, who he said inspired him to
come to work each day.
He will be keenly missed by those students and his second family, the
faculty and staff at Riverland. "Mr. Dilley" will not soon be
forgotten, nor is he likely to be matched.
Terry is survived by: Marijo Alexander, her daughters Nicole Cizik
and Jenny Oxborough; his children: Sean Dilley, Erin Dilley-Jones, and
Sheila Petersen; grandchildren: Ian and Gavin Petersen, and Megan
Dilley-Jones; his niece Nicole Heffron; and four siblings: Kerry Dilley,
Warren Dilley, Kariss Aan Englund, and Norma Jean Perry.
The visitation will be held May 9, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Mayer Funeral
Home in Austin. The funeral will be held May 10, 10 a.m. at Christ Episcopal
Church in Austin. Open house is that same day at 5 p.m., in the Christ
Church dining hall.
Please direct memorials to the Terrance N. Dilley Endowed Liberal
Arts Scholarship at Riverland Community College.
