James Allen Ross

1961-2013

The Lord has called upon another one of his beloved sons. James Allen Ross, age 52 of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away early Monday morning on June 3, 2013. James was born on January 11, 1961, in Austin, Minnesota, to George M. Ross and Ruth E. Ross.

James left the cold winters of Minnesota so he could enjoy his true passion of working and playing in a comfortable climate, which is why he moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he has made his home since 1981. James was a certified AAA Mechanic at Creveling Dodge for about six years before deciding to open his own mechanic shop. This allowed him to practice another one of his passions, racing and mud dragging. Soon after, he started his own towing and recovery company which led to him working and helping at Absolute Wrecker and Body Shop for about seven years.

Then like clockwork he wanted to continue to be his own boss. He opened and formed his own construction company, Ross 1 Construction, which is what he was doing when he passed away. James was blessed with the opportunity to make a pilgrimage to the Vatican and had the honor of meeting Pope Benedict. He was very much involved with the Catholic Church, as well as mentoring young adults as an instructor at weekend retreat classes.

James is survived by his mother, Ruth Ross; two sisters, Diana Ross (her family, Minoc, Kathy, MeShet, ScabbyRobeParnett), and Deb McCulloch and husband, Blake; three nephews: Aaron, Adam and Andrew; brother, George Ross and wife, Julia; three more nephews: Derrick Stafford, Joshua Smith and George Ross.

James also has another family that he was a part of and who considered him as a family member. The Villareal's are truly honored to have known such a wonderful man. He will be missed greatly by many friends and lives he touched. James was preceded in death by his father, George Ross and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, Minnesota, with Rev. Forrest Miller officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Worlein Funeral Home

Elizabeth (Quickfall) Bowers

1829-1912

Elizabeth Quickfall was born in Lincolnshire, England, February 7th 1829. When two years of age she with her father's family, crossed the Atlantic settling in New York state. Later her parents moved to Waterloo Co., Ontario, where she grew to womanhood and May 15, 1849, was married to Jacob S. Bowers. They lived in Ontario until the fall of 1860 when they went to Southwestern Missouri where they expected to make their home but in the spring of 1861 at the breaking out of the rebellion it was decided to remove further north, which they did, living in Auburn, Fayette county, Iowa, two years and afterwards in Osage eight years, where they had excellent school privileges for their children.

March 6th, 1871, they came to Lyle, Minnesota, settling upon a farm where her death occurred December 28th, 1911, at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 21 days. She had not been feeling well for about two weeks, but her condition was not considered serious. She ate a light breakfast and complained of a pain in her chest in the region of the heart. At about 9:45 a.m. she passed quietly away.

She was a devoted wife and mother, loved her home, and her life was spent making those around her comfortable and happy, many times at the sacrifice of her own comfort and health. Those who knew her best, loved her most. Her husband died May 17th, 1908, and her oldest child, N.S. Bowers on Dec. 15th, 1909. She leaves to mourn her loss six children; Mrs. M.J. Haney, Mrs. N.E. Varco, Mr. M.E. Bowers, Mr. C.N. Bowers, Mrs. C.V. Wilder and Mrs. Fred Hotson; also one sister, Mrs. Mary Devitt, Freeman, Ontario.

Frances Moucha (Mocka)

1893-1912

Frances Mocka, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mocka, died this morning at 6:20 after a lingering illness of consumption. She had been failing since last September and seriously ill for the last four months and a half.

Miss Mocka was born in Washington, November 6, 1893. When a year and a half old she came with her parents to Hayward where they lived for a short time before removing to Austin for residence. Here she grew to young womanhood. Being ambitious she learned the dressmaking trade and was also employed in Maurck's millinery department for some time. All who came in contact with her learned to appreciate her character and true worth. She was a girl who made friends of all who knew her, and her early death is regretted by those who feel that a useful life has been cut short. She leaves beside father and mother, a brother and sister.

She was a member of the Presbyterian church. The funeral will be held from the house on Division street Friday morning at 9 o'clock. The burial procession will leave at 10 o'clock for the Bohemian cemetery where interment will take place. Rev. Robert Brown will have charge of the service.

Frelove Hughson

d: 1912

Frelove Hughson, widow of the late George Hughson, was found dead at her home on Garfield street Sunday morning about 8 o'clock by Mr. Stafford.

Mrs. Hughson who has lived in our city for about thirty-five years and on Garfield street for about twenty, has lived alone since the death of her husband about three years ago. Mr. Stafford who works in one of the third ward hotels, has been doing chores for her during the winter, carrying in her coal, etc. He reports seeing her Thursday evening and she was in her usual health, though she has been quite poorly the past year.

He called her up by telephone Saturday evening to inquire if there was anything he could do for her and receiving no answer, thought she was asleep and went to her house about 8 o'clock Sunday morning. Receiving no answer to his rap, he phoned Dr. C. F. Lewis who came down immediately. They forced an entrance and found Mrs. Hughson lying on her bed dead. Death had evidently come the day before for the lamp had not been lit and she was accustomed to sleep with her lamp burning. She had evidently died without a struggle.

Mrs. Hughson who was a good housekeeper had prepared her baking and food for Sunday. There were two loaves of bread, a pie and a pot of beans which represented her week's baking and to her death evidently seemed far off. Her friends knew she was poorly but had no thought of her dying so suddenly. She lived very much to herself and neighbors called but seldom as she showed but little inclination for sociability. The body was taken to the home of Mrs. Max LaPoint, 417 East Bridge where the funeral will be held.
