Carleen Mae Helland, 84, of Austin died Friday, May 24, 2013 at her home.

Carleen was born on December 25, 1928, in Bricelyn, Minnesota, to German and Amanda (Holmseth) Jacobson. She graduated from both Bricelyn High School and the Mankato Commercial College. On June 19, 1949, Carleen married Morton Helland in the South Blue Earth Church in Brycelyn. In 1951 they moved to Austin, Minnesota.

Carleen worked at Zips Grocery, Hy-Vee Food Store and until December of 2012 at the B & J. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she was very active, serving in many groups and committees over the years. In her spare time, Carleen enjoyed golfing, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Morton, parents German and Amanda, and brother Gerald.

Carleen is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Barry (Carol) Helland, Aurora, Minnesota; Michael (Mia) Helland, Mesa, Arizona; daughter and son-in-law: Patricia (Tim) Ball, Austin, Minn.; grandchildren: Elizabeth Helland, Melissa Braxton-Brown, Joseph Dudycha, Heather (Dominic) Fischer, Jeffrey Dudycha, Matthew (Adrienne) Helland, Gregg (Stacey) Helland and Luke Helland; great grandchildren: Haley, Phoenix, Allie, Loudon, Pax and Arden; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church with the Reverend Jeffrey Forbes officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary.

Lucile Eleanor Voeltz, 101, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Stewartville Care Center in Stewartville, Minnesota.

Lucile was born February 8, 1912, in Grand Meadow, Minnesota, the daughter of Edward and Meta (Drewes) Schroeder. Lucile was united in marriage to Fredrick Voeltz on July 11, 1942, in South Tacoma, Wash. She and Fredrick lived in Prescott, Wisconsin, from 1950-1980, on a dairy farm. They moved to Brownsdale in 1980-2004. Lucile was a homemaker. She had worked at the Canning Factory in Rochester, Minnesota, and at Camp Comfort Resort in Brainerd, Minnesota After Fredrick passed away, she moved to the Cedars in Austin, Minnesota, and later to Stewartville Care Center.

Lucile is survived by her daughters, Lois (Edwin) Esterrich, Palatine, Illinois; Eleanor Voeltz, Mesquite, Texas; two grandchildren, Theresa Loza and Gary (Andrea) Seddon; two great-grandchildren, Samantha Loza, Emily Seddon; one great-great grandchild, Elena Marie Collins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fredrick; three infant sons; one infant daughter; two brothers, Leo and Reuben Schroeder; and one sister, Doris Hanson.

Charles Franklin Hardy, Sr. died in Austin, Minnesota, was buried in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. Later he was disinterred and buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, Minnesota. This was under the direction of his widow, Mildred L. (Davis) Hardy. Mildred met and married a widower, Donald C. Madison.

His wife was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, Minnesota. Mildred told Terry B. Hardy years ago, that her and Donald wanted to be buried next to their first spouses, but not far from each other. When Donald died in 1982, he was buried next to his 1st wife Bernice who died in 1959. When Mildred died in 1999, she was buried beside Charles. The two couples are about 10'-15' apart, near the flag pole.

Edna L. (Wyborny) Haack 1917-2013

Edna Louise Haack, 95 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Edna was born July 25, 1917, at Rockfalls, Iowa, to Joe and Tracy (Rose) Wyborny. In 1936, Edna married Louis Frederick Haack in Northwood, Iowa.

She worked on a farm in Dexter and lived most of her life in Austin.

Edna enjoyed writing poems, sewing and playing guitar and was a great cook. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Edna is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Darlene Keyser-Turner and Jerry Turner, Austin, Minnesota; a son, Darryl "Skip" Haack, Austin, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Judy Ann Haack, Austin, Minnesota; grandson, Tom Keyser, Austin; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Louise Haack, Austin, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Louis, son Danny, siblings Milton, Leona and Walter and step siblings Wilma and Ray.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Rev. Pam Aandahl Solberg officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour before the service.

Stephen Wayne Hansen, age 65 of Austin, Minnesota, died on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Wabasso, Minnesota.

He was born April 9, 1948 in Austin, Minnesota to Harry and Lucille (Dietrich) Hansen. Stephen grew up in Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1966 and then attended St. Cloud State University. He worked for Mower County in Building Maintenance.

Survivors include two daughters, Nicole Knutson and Jessica Kosmosky, both of Lacrosse, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Bryant, Kaelee, and Olivia; one sister, Ellen (Bob) Cox of Rochester, Minnesota; his nephews Joel Cox and Christian Cox; his niece Amy (Sean) O'Hara; his best friend Jerry Ames.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Lucille Hansen and his nephew David Cox.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday May 28, 2013 at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Rev. Dr. Steve DeFor officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Alden Community Cemetery, Alden, Minnesota. Obituary for Clayton Dale Meyer

Clayton Dale Meyer, age 82, of Austin, died Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin.

Clayton was born October 14, 1930 in Nevada Township, Minnesota to Clarence and Clara (Larson) Meyer. He attended a one room rural school, Pinehurst, in Nevada Township in the Lyle, Minnesota area.

Clayton served his country in the United States Army with the 25th Infantry, 35th Division in Japan and Korea. His unit was one of the first sent when the Korean War broke out. He served from 1948 to 1952, spending the last 22 months recovering from his wounds.

Clayton married Rosann Retterath on June 26, 1952 at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, Iowa. He joined the Catholic faith in 2009. He was a life time member of the V.F.W. and D.A.V. He enjoyed many things including camping, fishing, NASCAR and especially his 14 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. He was so blessed to live a full life. He will truly be missed.

Survivors include his wife of 60 plus years, Rosann, Austin, Minnesota; children, Kathy (John) Lang, Smithville, Missouri, Tom (Shawn) Meyer, Palm City, Florida, James Meyer (Diane Ashton), Austin, Minnesota, Christy (John) Heickley, Austin, Minnesota, Susan (Rolfe) Schroeder, Dodge Center, Minnesota, Don (Tresa) Meyer, Austin, Minnesota; beloved dog, Scooter; grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his son, David; parents; brother, Kenneth.

Donna Pauley, 88, of Minneapolis, passed away May 27, 2013.

Donna was born in Austin, Minn. She obtained her master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Minnesota, and became supervisor of the PT program at the University of Minnesota Hospital until she retired. Donna was a tireless volunteer for the Minnesota History Center, Minnesota, Textile Center and Goldstein Museum.

She will be remembered for her philanthropic work and love of family and friends.

She is survived by her brother, Homer Pauley of Fort Worth, Texas; and eight nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, May 31 at Walker Place Chapel, 3701 Bryant Ave. S., Minneapolis, with visitation at 12:30 p.m. and service 1 at p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to University of Minnesota Medical Foundation. The Cremation Society of Minnesota Edina Chapel is in charge of arrangements, 952-924-4100.

Evelyn Marie (Wohlers) Smith, 95, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday morning, May 29, 2013, at The Cedars in Austin from complications following a heart attack in late April. She was born on Oct. 22, 1917 in Elkton, Minnesota, to John D. and Emma H. (Kraft) Wohlers. She attended Elementary and Jr. High School in the Dexter - Elkton area and completed Elkton High School on May 31st, 1935. After graduation, she worked in Austin for several firms including Hormel Foods Corporation.

On December 9, 1945, Evelyn was united in marriage to Floyd C. Smith at her parents’ home in rural Dexter, Minn. After marriage, they lived and farmed on Floyd’s family farm, located on the Iowa side of State Line Road, east of Lyle, in their home built by Floyd. The couple had two sons, Roger and Dean. Evelyn was devoted to her church activities at the Union Presbyterian Church in rural Union Township, serving as Sunday School Teacher, President of the Ladies Aid and participating in many church activities. After the Union Presbyterian Church closed, her service to the church continued when the couple joined St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Toeterville. Evelyn loved the farm life, baking, flowers and the many song birds visiting their farm. The couple enjoyed dancing and traveling, making trips to Chicago, Niagara Falls, Branson, Black Hills, Yellowstone and several winter trips to California to visit their son Roger and their two grand-daughters, both of whom she loved dearly.

After retirement, Evelyn and Floyd moved to Austin in 1990 to reside at the Cedars. She continued her church life through her membership at Westminster Presbyterian Church of Austin. Evelyn and Floyd were married over sixty years before Floyd’s death on April 1, 2006. Evelyn continued to call the Cedars her home and in 2013 became their longest permanent resident of 23 years, beloved by both staff and the other residents.

Survivors include her son, Roger Smith of Alamo, Calif.; her granddaughters Allison Smith of Simi Valley, Calif. and Amy Smith of Rocklin, Calif.; her sister Donna Keck of Highland, Calif. and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd, her son Dean Robert Smith and a sister and a brother, Albert, both as infants.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5 at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, with Rev. Michael Olmsted officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Worlein Funeral Home. Interment will be in Osage City Cemetery, Osage. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.

Ethel Marie Christian, age 84, passed away on May 30, 2013, at Crest View Villa in Hayfield, Minnesota.

Ethel was born on May 12, 1929, the daughter of Vern and Marie (Calkins) Kirkwood in Austin, Minn. She was united in marriage to Harry Walter Boeff on December 28, 1947, at Dexter United Methodist Church. Harry passed away on April 21, 1997. They had six children: Arnold (Martha) Boeff, Laveen, Arizona; Raymond (Joyce) Boeff, Hastings, Minnesota; Larry Boeff, Guthrie, Okla.; Dale (Tracey) Boeff, Eagan, Minnesota; Diane (David) Boley, Hayfield; Jerry (Robbie) Boeff, Cheyenne, Wyoming. They also had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

On July 3, 2004, she was united in marriage to Walter Leigh Christian at Dexter United Methodist Church. Walter brought into the marriage, Sharon (Robert) Hanson, Lake Elmo, Minn./Surprise, Ariz.; Larry (Karen) Christian, Blooming Prairie, Minn.; and Michael (Sherry) Christian, Denver, Colo. Ethel enjoyed bowling, playing cards, Minnesota Twins, flower gardening and visiting with family and friends. She worked at various jobs. She was a homemaker and worked at Nickerson Farms as a cook, Libby’s Canning Factory, Lake Center Industries, Arcon in Stewartville and the Mill Inn Motel in Dexter as a desk clerk.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Christina in 1985; husband, Harry in 1997; and a special friend, Irvin Boysen in 2003.

The funeral service for Ethel Marie Christian will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at the United Methodist Church, 230 Pleasant St. in Dexter with the Rev. Karen Ashton officiating. Interment will be in Grand Meadow Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 Second St. NW in Hayfield and one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Franklyn D. Underwood, 80, (Frankie D.) died May 26, 2013. He was a beloved Child of God, loving husband, dad, poppa, uncle and friend.

Heaven received a wonderful and special angel on May 26. Frank was born Nov. 8, 1932. He never met anyone that wasn’t his friend. He would do anything for anyone anytime. Never was he known to ask for help, but he was always there to pitch in. He was always the behind the scenes person, setting up the chairs, picking up, doing dishes, praying quietly. His walk with God was so awesome. He never raised his voice or showed anger. He treated everyone with respect and dignity. He was a kind and loving husband, a good daddy to his children and loved by his grandchildren. He had the ability and gift to make children smile. He was kind, gentle and patient to everyone. He was a terrific teacher; a special friend who greatly impacted this world in his quiet way. Other fathers looked up to him for his example. His love of God and his fellow man is immeasurable. He never found fault with people or situations, just ways to make life better for others. He had a way of putting others first.

Frank was a 20-year Navy man. He married his wife, raised his children and worked hard after he left the Navy. He was constant in his faith and was a volunteer in his church in a variety of ways. He was a special friend to his mother-in-law. He was a volunteer at St. Joseph's hospital and loved what he did. He always came home talking about his "girlfriends" and friends and who needed prayer or who ate lunch with him. He was so full of peace that many looked up to him and wanted the kind of peace in life that he had. Nothing disturbed him, nothing upset him. He died the way he lived; without any drama, he just went peacefully amidst the daily activity of his wife, son and grandchildren. We lift up Frank Underwood in prayer and know he will never suffer again. Thank you, Frank, for being an important part in the lives of your family.

Your wife Kathi of 43 years will always love you and love all that you were to her. Your children Trina, her husband Dan; Kris, her husband Brett, Scott and his wife Haley will remember your gentleness in life and try to live up to your example. You were a joy and a blessing to each of your grandchildren. Those by marriage and those by birth: Christy and Daniel, children of Dan as well as Camryn, child of Trina and Dan living in Deer Park. Amber and her husband Payden, Kirstie, Tiffani by marriage and Nick and Melissa by birth children of Kris and Brett living in Goddard Kansas. And, of course, Ariel who was his bright shining "curly murly." She made him smile and laugh. He was able to meet his last grandchild Daniel "Danno." These are the grandchildren by Scott and Haley living in the Underwood family home in Houston.

Frank was preceded in death by his father and mother Edgar and Myrtle Underwood, his sister Dorothy Underwood Anderson, his brother Thomas Underwood, and his sisters-in-law, Virginia Underwood and Marian Underwood. He was also preceded by his father-in-law, Chuck Hubbell, and sisters-in-law Jane and Nancy Hubbell, as well as Lisa Hubbell Morales and brother-in-law Jerry Morales. They were all waiting for him with open arms to present him to his heavenly father.

He is survived by brothers Chet, Bill and Harold and his spouse Jeanette; and his sisters, Barbara Underwood Root, husband Buzz and Darlene Underwood Thomas, husband Bob. On Kathi’s side of the family: her mother, Margie Hubbell (his very good and special friend); brothers Chuck and his spouse Drema, Dave and his spouse Louann, and her brother John; and her sister Laurie and her husband Terry Sellers. On both sides of the family are nieces and nephews who loved Uncle Frankie. God bless you always, all ways.

Burial will be at Veteran's Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.

Nancy Joan Krueger, 72, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family and friends.

Nancy was born February 19, 1941, in Austin to Laurence and Edna (Johnson) Gaskill. She grew up in Austin where she graduated from high school. Nancy was united in marriage to John George. They were blessed with four children, Kristina, William, Amy and Melissa. The couple later divorced. Nancy then married Kenneth Krueger. The couple lived in Austin and traveled with the Merriams Midway Show for several years. Nancy also worked in healthcare. After 25 years of marriage, Kenneth passed away.

Nancy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family and friends from the Merriams Midway Show.

Survivors include her daughters, Kristina (Raul) Alvarez-Babastro, Austin, Kathy (Bruce) Carlson, Ogden, Iowa, Melissa George (Bob), Austin, Pamela DuBois (Brian), Austin; sons, William George, Austin, Pat (Dede) George, Albert Lea, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Wendy Gaskill (Sheila), Minneapolis, Terry (George) Thompson, Rochester, Minnesota, Susie (Jim) Schmitz, Adams, Minnesota, Sally (Terry) Bue, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Sarah Gaskill (Domenica), Minneapolis; brother, Joe (Pam) Gaskill, Susanville, California; nieces and nephews.

She devoted her time to her children and husband. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.

Sadie Carpenter Luense, who was living in Lyle, Minnesota, with her daughter, Mrs. O.J. Morensen, died on March 14, following a brief illness.

She was born in Osborne, Iowa, in 1881 and left this vicinity in 1944. Services were held at the WOrlein funeral home in Austin, Minnesota. Burial in Lyle, Minnesota.**

surviving are two sons, Cecil of Cedar Rapids and Dale of Redding, Calif.; two daughters, Rose Luense of Mason City and Mr. O.J. Mortensen of Lyle, Minnesota; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Robert Eugene Hallman Sr., 90, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday morning June 1, 2013, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.

Bob was born May 4, 1923, in Austin to Claude Hallman and Ellen Anderson Hallman. Bob attended Austin schools and was active in athletics. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy, stationed on destroyers in the Western Pacific. After the war he returned to Austin and worked for Hormel until his retirement at age 55. He was an avid golfer and spent winters in south Texas.

Bob was preceded in death by wife Shirley (2005), daughter Janice Banks and son Gerald Hallman. He is survived by wife Bernice Hallman of Austin; sons, Robert (Carol) Hallman Jr. of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and William Hallman of the Phillipines; sister, Virginia Wilson of Austin; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Robert Hallman will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin with Pastor Michael Olmsted presiding. Mary Jane Knowlton, 83, of Rochester, Minnesota, and formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Golden Living West nursing facility. Per Mary Jane’s wishes, her body has been donated to Mayo Foundation.

Mary Jane, the daughter of Lyle and Rose Knowlton, was born in Lanesboro, on March 14, 1930. She was married on September 10, 1949, and later divorced. She was employed in attorney's offices in Biloxi, Mississippi, and Austin, and retired as an employee of the District Court Olmsted County at the court house in Rochester.

She developed a love of books when she worked at the Austin Public Library during her high school years. An avid volunteer, she served on the Library board and the YWCA board (now the Hormel House) in Austin. She was a member of the United Methodist Church while living in Fremont, Nebraska, and served as an altar flower chairman. She was also a Red Cross volunteer at the hospital in Fremont. She loved reading, playing bridge, doing crossword puzzles and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.

She is survived by her four children, Cynthia (John) Myers of Dodge Center, James (Cecilia) Flannery of Salinas, Ecuador, Peggy (Bill) Swanson of Rochester, and Jon (Nancy) Flannery of Fairbanks, Alaska; six grandchildren, Eric Myers of Dodge Center, Brad (Amy) Swanson of Rochester, Erin Myers of Winona, Minnesota, Carrie (Brendyn) Pagel of Rochester, Morgan Flannery of Oakland, California, and Sean Flannery of Fairbanks, Alaska; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Marge Anderson of Austin; brother, Dick (Nancy) Knowlton of Vail, Colorado; sister, Carol Warfield, Hudson, Ohio; brothers, Bob (Joan) Knowlton of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Gary (Mary) Knowlton of Punta Gorda, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, her parents and a brother-in-law.

A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Edward D. Matti, 77, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, in a local care center in Sulphur, Louisianna.

Edward was a native of Austin, Minnesota, and had been a resident of Sulphur for 20 years, coming from Elton, La. Edward enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was a member of the Church of God.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Patsy D. Matti of Sulphur; three daughters, Patricia Brame and husband Billy of Sulphur, Patrice Matti of Lake Charles, La., and Janalyn Arceneaux and husband Pierre of Welsh, La.; two brothers, David Matti of Baltimore, Md., and Donald Matti of Grand Junction, Colo.; two sisters, Mary Jacobs of Hackensack, Minn., and Judy Goergen of Austin; four grandchildren, James Brame, Bonnie Brame, Andrea Arceneaux and Lea Ann Williams; three great-grandchildren, Zane, Jayden and Brenden; and a special family friend, Yvonne Bertrand.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Marie Matti.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 31, in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Lake Charles under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Myrna loved music, and sang both as a soloist and a choir member in church and community choirs. She felt this brought her close to God. Myrna made her life as a homemaker and raised two sons.

Survivors include her sons Matthew Kruckeberg of Fargo, N.D., and Andrew Kruckeberg of Newport Beach, Calif.; two grandchildren, Andrew Kaser and Trevor Domier; siblings, Steven (Barbara) Planz, Debra (Pat) Perkins and Lynda (Joseph) Hodges.

She was preceded in death by her mother Ruth Planz and her ex-husband David Kruckeberg.

Raymond Henry Appel, 74, passed away peacefully on May 30 at his favorite place, his home, surrounded by family.

Raymond is survived by Judy, his wife of 52 years; sons, Robert (Marcia) and Thomas (Elizabeth); daughters, Michelle (Kelly) and Nancy (Mitch); and grandchildren, Lauren, Josiah, Grace and Levi. Ray grew up in Austin, Minnesota, graduated from Austin High School in 1957 and was preceded in death by his mother and father, Pearl (nee Ranum) and Henry, and his sister Dolores. He is survived by siblings Phyllis, Helen, Rodney, Sharon and JoAnn.

Ray was a competitive amateur golfer, card player, lover of home and garden, mechanic, scientist and a true gentleman. He had a dual career as an instructor at Lakewood Community College and as a golf coach. Ray was a devoted teacher who always had time to nurture a student. Intrigued with the natural world, he loved the earth and was amazed by the symmetry of the universe and the power of God's hand. Ray was a model father and grandfather and a friend to many.

His memorial service will be on Friday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1616 W. Olive St., in Stillwater. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Memorials are preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Lakeview Hospice or the National Parkinson Foundation. Charlotte R. Sorensen, 81, of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Charlotte Ramona was born on October 9, 1931, at Hayward, Minnesota, to Merl and Elsa (Braun) Schear. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hollandale, Minnesota, and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dexter, Minn., on July 6, 1947. Charlotte graduated from Elkton High School in 1949 and completed the secretarial program at Austin Junior College. Charlotte married Donald Sorensen on March 30, 1952, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dexter.

Charlotte and Don farmed in rural Dexter for many years. Charlotte enjoyed collecting bells, dolls, cookbooks and pictures of her grandkids.

She was a leader of 4-H for more than 35 years and she was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Elkton, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald, in 1994; children, Donnie, Gregory, Nels, Brenda and Patricia; one grandson; one great-grandson; and her son-in-law, Andy Struthers.

Charlotte is survived by her children: Joanne Struthers, Kellogg, Minnesota, Laurie (Lonnie Brown) Sorensen, Austin, Patrick (Krista) Sorensen, Hager City, Wisconsin, Lance Sorensen, Austin, Minnesota, and Kenneth Horne Jr., Austin; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Delores (Myron) Sorensen, Dexter.

Betty A. Kolpin, 85, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

Betty Ann Johnson was born September 7, 1927, in Austin to Paul and Blanche (Christianson) Johnson. She attended Austin Public Schools, and then worked as a high school secretary, a secretary for Milwaukee School of Engineering and Ellis Junior High secretary. On June 5, 1948, she married Donald Kolpin in Austin.

A member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Betty enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, camping and traveling. She was an artist and especially enjoyed painting. She was a member of the Austin Art Club. Betty especially treasured her kids and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Donald R. Kolpin of Austin; her children, Rodney A. (Vickie) Kolpin of Waseca, Minnesota, Wendy S. (David) Winders of Ankeny, Iowa, and Mary J. (Jeffrey) Rugg of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Garrett (Amanda) Kolpin, Tyler Kolpin, Molly (Brian) Kant, Jaime Rugg, Morgan Rugg; one great-granddaughter, Elise Kolpin. She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Blanche Johnson.

Virginia Ann Peters, 56, of Waseca, Minnesota, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at her home.

Virginia was born September 4, 1956, in Austin, Minnesota, to Roger B. and Joyce E. (Crnkovic) Peters. She attended Austin High School. Virginia worked for Brown Printing in Waseca for 25 years, and then for Mediacom for 6 years. Her hobbies were painting, drawing and collecting angels. She enjoyed playing bingo as well, and was a big-hearted woman. She especially treasured her time spent with family and friends.

Survivors include three sisters, Rosemary (Santos) Morales of Roseau, Minn., Diana (Kevin) Dougherty of St. Louis, Mo., Cheryl (Michael) Eckhart of Byron, Minnesota; six nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Joyce Peters; and her grandparents, Charles and Myrtle Crnkovic and Ben and Hatti Peters.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with the Rev. Dale Christiansen officiating. Genevieve Mary Arndt, 97, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Comforcare Good Samaritan in Austin.

She was born October 31, 1915, the ninth of ten children to the Irish family of Dan and Katie (Shugrue) Gorman, in Thunder Hawk, South Dakota. The family moved to Austin, Minnesota when Genevieve was a young girl. There, she completed her education and took a job at the Hormel plant.

On September 22, 1934 she married Emil A. Arndt and they raised five children. Emil died February 29, 1984 and Genevieve began working as a foster care worker for Mower County. She continued this work until her retirement at age 84.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband, two sons; Emil (Duke) Arndt and Donald, six brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by two sons, Larry Arndt of Brownsdale, Minnesota, David (Eddie) Arndt of New Orleans, Louisiana; a daughter, Beverly (Ron) Dotzenrod of Rochester, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren;and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Wayne Dankert, 68, of Waseca, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, while living in New York City.

Born on April 11, 1945, in Austin, Minnesota, he was the son of John and Beatrice (Novotny) Dankert. He graduated in 1963 from Austin Pacelli High School. After receiving a journalism and advertising degree from Michigan State University, Wayne joined the Army Reserves based in Rochester, Minnesota, and served as an MP.

He was hired by Oather Trodahl in Waseca, who was taking the local newspaper, the Waseca Daily Journal, to daily publication. After selling advertising for the Waseca newspaper, he was hired by Target Corporation and moved to Minneapolis. He was ultimately hired by Robert Mishek to write advertising for his stable of direct mail business to business catalogs. While with the Mishek organization, he developed the Walters Cookbook business that grew to include publishing school yearbooks. The company eventually changed its name to Walters Publishing. Walters Publishing became the pioneer in publishing full-color year books for the elementary and middle school market served by independent school photographers.

In 1979 Dankert purchased the Student Letter Exchange, a Pen Pal program he turned into a business operating in 183 countries of the world, as well as becoming an NGO at the United Nations.

On July 18, 1970, he married Mary Mishek at Sacred Heart Church in Waseca. They returned to live in Waseca later that year. While Dankert spent a lifetime as a publisher he always considered his main life’s work to be a father to his daughters, Sarah and Nicole. He always said the addition of his sons-in-law (Cory Kim-Tomcek and David Hsu) to be the blessing that was the "icing on his cake."

Dankert was an active member of the Waseca community. He was an original member of the Diversity Committee for the Waseca School System, spent considerable time raising funds to support the Waseca High School Marching Band program, and was active with the Waseca Girl Scouts, past president of Waseca Rotary, member of the Waseca Seratoma Club, member of the Waseca Chamber of Commerce, a member of the CORE Team as Sacred Heart Parish, and a 40-plus year member of the Lakeside Country Club. He was also a member of the West Bay Country Club in Estero, Florida, as well as the Bonita Springs Bridge Club and the Ft. Myers Bridge Club. During his business career he was a member and officer of many national and international business associations.

Dankert is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary; daughters, Sarah Kim-Tomcek and her husband, Cory of Hoboken, N.J., and Nicole Hsu and her husband, David, of New York City; one brother, Larry of Faribault; brother-in-law, Walter Mishek of Waseca; sister-in-law, Susan Gehring and her husband Curt of Ellendale, Minn.; a niece; two nephews; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Allen.

Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Sunday, June 9, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 10, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waseca.

Obituary Notice Elsie M. Keyser Elsie Marie Keyser, 90, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Elsie was born on November 29, 1922 in Clarion, Iowa, to Frank and Myrtle (Lord) Sellers. She graduated Austin High School in 1941. On June 29, 1947 she married Worrell L. Keyser at the Church of Christ in Austin, Minnesota.

She loved leading nature hikes in the mountains surrounding Tucson, painting, country music videos but as she became less mobile she focused on keeping in touch with those she loved. Her 2013 list for birthday cards comprised 77 family members and loved ones. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Myrtle Sellers, husband Worrell Keyser, sister Clarissa Kamppi-Moore, brothers Merlyn and Lyle and sister-in-law Karen Sellers.

Elsie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: J William Keyser, St. Paul, Minnesota; Gene E. (Judy) Storry, Tucson, Arizona; Duane E. Myron "Mike" D. Hyland, Sr., 78 of Hannibal, Missouri, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Myron Dean Hyland, Sr. was born on November 30, 1934 to Jens A. and Esther (Smith) Hyland on the family farm east of Austin, Minnesota. Myron attended rural Burr Oak School and Austin High School. He married Ernestine Nelson on December 27, 1952 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Myron was a farmer, construction superintendent, an auctioneer, and an antique dealer, with a life-long appreciation of hard work and skilled craftsmanship. His hobbies included traveling, especially to auction destinations, reading, wood-working, home remodeling, and playing cards, especially with his family and grandchildren. Always finding work a pleasure, Myron and his son Rick operated Hyland Antiques in Hannibal.

Myron's greatest treasure and source of pride was his family, and he loved spending time and sharing his talents with them. His advice and counsel, his keen memory and many stories, his sense of humor, and smiling blue eyes will be deeply missed.

Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant brother, his brother Milo Hyland, and his brother-in-law Arleigh Anthonisen.

Myron is survived by his wife and partner of 60 years, Ernestine (Nelson) Hyland; his five children: Sherry (Paul) Hyland Cavanaugh, Clearwater, Florida, Darise (Doug) Ingvaldson, Owatonna, Minnesota, Myron D. (Debra) Hyland, Jr, Brainerd, Minnesota, Rick Hyland, Hannibal, Missouri, and Lori (Roger Brennan) Hyland Norris, Clearwater, Florida; ten grandchildren: Leigh "Katie," Christina, Patrick, Erika, Naomi, Matthew, Tina, Jessika, Joshua, and Jonathan; six great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law: Betty (Vernon) Vold, Lake Mills, Iowa, Esther Anthonisen, Austin, Minnesota; brother and sisters-in-law: Robert A. (Irene) Hyland, Austin, Minnesota, Helen Hyland, Austin, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 11th at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Reverend William Odermann officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and at the church on Tuesday for one hour before the service. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the church. Arrangements by O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, and Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin.

The casket bearers will be Patrick Ingvaldson, Joshua Norris, Jonathan Norris, Matthew Hyland, Brett Olsen, and Arleigh Anthonisen.

Mildred was born July 3, 1913 to Rose Dore (Gute) and John P. Peterson in Austin, Minnesota. She married Norman Henry Perl on September 17, 1931. He passed away in December 1968.

Mildred was a charter member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church and worked devotedly for many years helping out whenever she could. Mildred also volunteered at the Philomathian Religious Book Store until she was no longer able. She was a beautiful seamstress, enjoyed crocheting, knitting, counted cross-stitch and crafts in general. Mildred made Christmas ornaments yearly for her children and grandchildren.

Mildred loved her family, her church and life in general. She always looked for the best in others and gave the best she had. Her life was an inspiration and she will always be loved and never forgotten. Rest in peace Mom.

The family extends their appreciation to the staff at Sacred Heart Care Center for their compassionate and loving care of Mom.

Alfred R. Evans, 85, of LeRoy, Minnesota, died peacefully in his home Friday, June 7, 2013.

Alfred was born November 30, 1927, in Chappell, Nebraska, to Florence and Ray Evans. He grew up in Sidney, Nebraska, where he played high school basketball and worked as a printer’s devil.

He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 16 during World War II and was a proud member of the Rochester, Minnesota, Honor Flight corp in October 2009. He was a linotype operator/printer/publisher through his lifetime, starting his publishing career in Atkinson, Illinois, at The Atkinson-Annawan News weekly newspaper in 1963. During his career, he owned publications as well in Hillsboro, Wis.; the Henry County Advertizer in Geneseo, Ill.; and three other area publications in Orion, Port Byron and Atkinson. With his wife, he owned the LeRoy Independent in LeRoy, Minnesota, buying it in 1992 as well as the Lime Springs Herald.

He was a fifth-generation printer and one of his greatest achievements was the fact most of his children followed in his career footsteps.

Alfred is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eileen. They were married Oct. 16, 1950, in International Falls, Minn. He is also survived by 14 children, including Terry (Mary Kay) of Plymouth, Wis.; Pat Markor of Wisconsin Dells, Wis.; Tim (Luanne) of Moline, Ill.; Linda (Leo) Smith of Park City, Ill.; Debra (Joe) Welter of Grayslake, Ill.; Sue Beck of Canton, Ga.; Donna (Tom) Gnidovic of Chicago; Barb (Brian) O’Neill of Owatonna, Minn.; Dan (Joyce) of LeRoy; Julie (Mark) Hale of Clearwater, Fla.; Greg (Sue) of Sparta, Wis.; Natalie (Robert Rizer) of Beaver Dam, Wis.; Dave (Amy) of Kasson, Minn.; Matt (Jessie) of Byron, Minn.; as well as 32 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Paul (Sue) of Bayard, Neb., and Don of Bridgeport, Neb.; as well as two sisters, LaWanda Bennett of Bayard and Connie (Don) Benker of Greeley, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Virgil; and an infant son Ronnie.

Alfred was a member of the LeRoy American Legion Post 161, served on the Illinois Press Association Board of Directors, helped start the Atkinson Chamber of Commerce and served as president, served as member of the Atkinson Fire Department, and the Atkinson Village Board. He was chairman of LeRoy Economic Development Board and helped find a physician and start the Mayo Clinic Health System in LeRoy. He was an active member of the LeRoy Senior Citizens and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in LeRoy.

He was a Nebraska football fan and enjoyed playing horse shoes, bowling, pool, cribbage, computer games, as well as watching game shows and reading books on Westerns.

A funeral service for Alfred will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday June 11, 2013, at St Patricks Catholic Church in LeRoy, Minn., with Father Marreddy Pothireddy officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, June 10, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Patricia Evelyn (Boyle) Woodfill

Patricia Boyle Woodfill, 98 of Brownsdale, Minnesota, died Sunday June 9, 2013 at her home in Brownsdale.

Patricia Evelyn Boyle was born August 8, 1914 in Bloomington, Minnesota the daughter of Eugene and Selma (Verbeck) Boyle. She graduated from High School in Minneapolis, Minnesotat in the class of 1931. Patricia was married to Gary Joseph Woodfill on February 10, 1939 in Charles City, Iowa. The Woodfills moved to the Austin area and after Gary built a new home, they moved to Brownsdale.

Patricia was a member of the Brownsdale United Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Church Women. She was a horticulturalist, an avid gardener and member of the Austin Garden Club. Pat enjoyed sewing and was a bird watcher. Pat and Gary enjoyed camping in northern Minnesota and spending winters in Mesa, Arizona following Gary’s retirement in 1976.

Patricia was preceded in death her husband Gary in 2006, her parents and one brother.

She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Sue and Bruce Kehret, Moses Lake, Washington, Judy Marshall, Byron, Minnesota; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday June 14th at the Brownsdale United Methodist Church with Pastor Sharon Goetzinger officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church on Friday morning. Memorials may be directed to the Brownsdale United Methodist Church. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Roger Lloyd Braaten, 87, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin, Minnesota.

Roger was born January 7, 1926, in Austin to Teeman and Olga (Adams) Braaten. On April 1, 1944, he was united in marriage to Berniece Dahl in Owatonna, Minn. The couple lived in Blooming Prairie for 69 years, which was their entire married life. Roger worked as a carpenter and construction worker, and then later as a bus driver. He served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, where he served as head usher. Roger was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was a NASCAR fan, and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Berniece Braaten of Blooming Prairie; his children, Robert (Carol) Braaten of Blooming Prairie, Linda (Walter) Nelson of Hayfield, Minn., Judith Slegh of Maple Island, Minn., Douglas (Debra) Braaten and David (Rita) Braaten, both of Owatonna, Debra (Gene) Whittington of Hayfield, Brenda (Keith) Trom of Rochester, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents Teeman and Olga Braaten, his son Roger Braaten, his son-in-law Gary Slegh, three sisters, one brother, and one step-great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with the Rev. Charles Leonard and the Rev. Heidi Heimgartner officiating. Friends may call at the Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, Blooming Prairie, with military rites by American Legion Post 52 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 878. The family prefers memorials be directed to First Lutheran Church of Blooming Prairie. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
