#3:
Lauren Elizabeth Schwab 1992-2013
Lauren E. Schwab, 20, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, April 20, 2013,
at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin.
Lauren Elizabeth Schwab was born April 24, 1992, in Amherst, N.Y., to
Patrick and Elizabeth (Philips) Schwab. Lauren, our LoLo, was a gift of
joy and inspiration to everyone who knew her. She attended St. A's
Elementary School and graduated from Austin High School in 2010. Her
positive impact on our community began early with her active involvement
in many school clubs and organizations, where her genuine, warmhearted,
bubbly personality gained her many friends.
Upon graduation, Lauren pursued her passion of becoming a nurse at
Winona State University in Winona and Riverland in Austin. It was a very
fitting career path for someone who was always devoted to helping and
caring for others. She was a very avid babysitter for many families, a
member of the Red Cross Board, a Red Cross volunteer and a devoted nursing
assistant to the residents of Sacred Heart Care facility. Her co-workers at
QPP praised her not only for her meticulous attention to detail in QC, but
for her willingness to help others whether it was related to the job or not.
Nothing can compare to the caring, concern and love Lauren showed for
her close-knit family. She was cheerleader, comedian, adviser, fun-loving
adversary and rock to her beloved siblings Nathan and Paiton. She followed
the great role models of her parents, Beth and Pat, to a new level as she
matured and developed into the kind, sincere, independent young woman she
was when God called her home. Lauren encouraged them to sign up as a family
for a mission trip to Guatemala this coming July. It would have been a
perfect complement to some of their traditional family fun adventures to
Vail, Colo., and Green Bay Packer Games -- but this time fulfilling her
desire to care for and help others.
Lauren’s million-dollar smile, trademark, contagious laughter,
melt-your-heart big brown eyes and bear hugs are the physical
characteristics we will miss most about her. But transcending that was
her innate ability to make everyone she met feel special and valued. She
took the time to talk, listen, care and help. The emotional imprint she
left on all our hearts is profound. She was beautiful inside and out! We
are all better people for having known and loved Lauren Elizabeth Schwab!
Let her smile light up the heavens and her laughter continue to shake us
here on earth! We love you, Lauren!
She was preceded in death by her grandmother Cali Philips, godfather
Villo Offen, and great-grandparents.
Lauren is survived by her parents, Patrick and Beth Schwab; brother,
Nathan Schwab; sister, Paiton Schwab, all of Austin; grandparents, James
and Dorothy Schwab, Cedar Falls, Iowa, William Philips and his wife Sherry,
Murdo, South Dakota; uncles and aunt, Tony Philips, Cedar Rapids, Iowa,
Cyndi and Cory Mitteness, Mayer, Minnesota; "other brother:" Goliath Oboyo,
Austin; cousins and extended family.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 26 at
St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Jim Steffes officiating.
Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will
be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with a 7 p.m.
prayer service. Visitation will also be held at the church for one hour
before the service on Friday morning.
Memorials may be directed to the "Lauren Schwab Scholarship Fund" in
care of the family.

Roger W. Rindels, 71 of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday,
April 25, 2013 at his home.
Roger Wayne Rindels was born on March 2, 1942 in Green Leafton,
Minnesota to Chester and Esther (Ruesink) Rindels. Roger was baptized
and confirmed in the Green Leafton Reform church in Green Leafton. The
church was a very important part of Roger's life. When he moved to Austin,
Roger and Evie joined Our Savior's Lutheran Church. His religious upbringing
was very important to him and he practiced it at all times.
Roger grew up in the Preston area and graduated from the Preston High
School. He married a high school classmate in 1960 and to the union a
daughter "Kathy" was born. She was the light of his life. He was later
divorced from this marriage.
Roger had polio when he was four years old and spent eight months in
Sister Kinney Hospital in the cities. He never gave up and with strong
determination; he came out of it with just a slight limp.
Roger did many things after he graduated. He worked for Chuck Knies
in his store and repaired screens and many things. Chuck also is the person
that taught him to golf and he did a fine job of it because Roger was an
excellent golfer and received many trophies in his years winning tournaments.
Roger bought into a car dealership, and later he started a clothing store
in Preston and also repaired shoes in the back of the store. In 1983, Roger
moved to Austin where he bought in with his uncle in the Coast to Coast
store which he sold in 1990. Then he sold insurance for Del Freund.
In 1999, his dream came true, he moved back to Preston to be the
superintendent and pro of the Preston Golf and Country Club, the golf
course where he grew up playing. Roger took great pride in improving the
course and building the membership up larger than it had ever been. After
about 10 years, he retired and came back to Austin and worked part time
at the Austin Country Club mowing greens and whatever was needed to do.
In 2012, he was voted employee of the year at the Country Club. He was
well liked by everyone that knew him. Golf was one of Roger's passions
and love. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and anything that
would let him be outside. The last few years, Roger and his wife Evie
spent the winter months in Arizona so that he could golf and fish all
year long.
When Roger moved to Austin in 1983, he met the love of his life, Evelyn
(Evie) (Chambers) Miller and they were married in 1984. He felt she was
his best friend and soul mate which he let everyone know. They enjoyed
life together to the max!
Roger was preceded in death by his grandparents, aunts and uncles and
many close friends due to cancer and other health problems so he is sure
to be organizing a big tournament to celebrate his passing up there in the
big golf course in the sky.
Roger is survived by his wife, Evie, Austin, Minnesota; daughter, Kathy
(Scott) Goergen, Austin, Minnesota; stepdaughters: Brenda (Rick) Hall,
Austin, Minnesota; Tiffinie (Heather) Miller, St. Paul, Minnesota; step son,
Brian (Sarah) Miller, Apopka, Florida; six grandsons: Ryan Himli, Dustin
Riste, Nick Riste, Cody Miller, Brayden Hall and Keagan Miller Sammons;
two granddaughters: Breanna (Adam) Kemmerick and Arieanne Miller; five
great-grandchildren. Roger loved them all so very much and they loved
him. His parents Chester and Esther Rindels, Roger looked up to them and
worshipped the ground they walked on. Sister: LuAnn (Loren) Rindels,
Preston, Minnesota; sisters-in-law: Agnes (John) Heichel, Austin,
Minnesota, Judy (Daryl) Champlin, Austin, Minnesota and Bonnie Nelson,
Chanhassen, Minnesota; and many cousins, relatives and golf buddies that
were like brothers to him.
Roger will be so missed not only by his wife and family but anyone that
ever knew him. He was so loved by all. Cancer may have taken his body, but
his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 30th at

Margaret Elizabeth (Plantikow) Bjork1915-2013
(February 14, 1915 - May 3, 2013)
Margaret E. (Plantikow) Bjork, 98, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013 at
Mayo Clinic Health Systems-Austin, Minnesota, as the result of a fall.
Margaret was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1915 in Winona,
Minnesota, to Edwin Esher and Lucy Emelia (Kaiser) Plantikow. She was
baptized at Central Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. Matthews Lutheran
Church in Winona. She lived in Winona until her father purchased the Homer
Store in Homer, Minnesota.
When she was a senior in high school, her family again moved, this time
to Austin, where her father opened the first IGA Cash and Carry Grocery
Store which was later known as Plantikow Super Valu. She and her brothers
worked for their father in the store. After graduation from Austin High
School in 1933, she took post graduate classes in how to operate a
comptometer. She then got a job at Hormel where she worked for several
years. She met M. Edward Bjork and they were married on October 14, 1937
at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
Margaret was a devoted member of St. Olaf and participated in many
activities. Along with five other women, she started the church Altar
Guild and remained active in it for 50 years. She belonged to a Circle,
sang in the choir for many years, worked for the Scandinavian Bazaar and
made over 150 shawls for the Prayer Shawl group. She also was a founding
member of the Young Matrons in Austin. Many people in the Austin area may
know Margaret as the "Caramelcorn and Pizzelle lady." She made, sold and
gave away hundreds of cans until she was well into her 90's. She kept a
daily diary since 1931 and loved to knit and crochet every day.
We celebrate Margaret as a loving, generous, fun-filled, good Christian
woman who lived a full and purpose-filled life. She looked for ways to help
others and always put them before herself. She found life more rewarding
when she was serving others and serving God. Margaret sought the will of
her heavenly Father each and every day and tried to reflect God’s love.
Today she can rest among the angels and saints in heaven knowing she served
her Father well.
The family wishes to especially thank the compassionate and caring nurses,
Nancy and Susan on the second floor, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems - Austin.
They provided such comfort during her final journey. Most especially, she
would have been unable to live independently in her home for the last
several years without the excellent and willing help from Robert (Bob) Wolf.
Margaret was welcomed into heaven by a host of family and friends who
went before her including her parents Edwin and Lucy; her husband, Ed in
1975; her brothers John Plantikow and Robert (Jeannette) Plantikow;
brothers-in-law Allen (Elaine) Bjork, Herbert (Arlene) Bjork, R.W. (Lucile)
McCanne, and nephew Dr. Ralph (Kathy) Bjork.
Margaret will be deeply missed by her daughter and son-in-law Mary and
Tarry Hall, Onalaska, WI; granddaughter and her husband, Amy and Christopher
Lawson, Brooklyn Center, MN; nieces, nephews and many cherished friends.
Friends are invited to celebrate a life well lived on Wednesday, May 8th at 11:00 AM at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Todd Portinga, AiM officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service on Wednesday morning. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
The family requests memorials to St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
