Inman Adolph Hesla 1922-2013
Dr. Inman Adolph Hesla, age 90 of Austin, died Wednesday, February
6, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System – Austin surrounded by his family.
Born June 2, 1922 to Inman Albert and Agnes B. (Brendsel) Hesla in
Wakonda, South Dakota, he grew up on a farm in Clay County and graduated
from Augustana Academy in Canton, South Dakota. After attending Augustana
College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for two years, Inman enlisted in the
US Navy, where he served for three and a half years. Ensign Hesla was
involved in the Battle of Iwo Jima. After his discharge from the Navy,
Inman returned to college at Augustana, graduating in 1947 with a BA in
Biology. He went on to study medicine at the University of South Dakota
in Vermillion for two years before transferring to Southwestern Medical
School/University of Texas in Dallas where he graduated in 1951 with a
Doctor of Medicine Degree.
In the meantime, Inman married Lois B. Larson on July 24, 1949 in
Sisseton, South Dakota. Moving to Minnesota, Dr. Hesla served an internship
at Charles Miller Hospital in St. Paul. The couple moved to Austin in July
of 1952. Dr. Hesla delivered 2,996 babies during his 34 years at the Austin
Medical Center. In the spring of 1970 he served as a volunteer doctor during
the Viet Nam war in Quang Tri.
A respected member of the Austin community, Dr. Hesla was active at
St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, camping
and bird watching. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by
his family, friends and the Austin community.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Hesla of Austin; three sons, Todd
(Karen) Hesla, Joseph (Bonnie Beckel) Hesla and Bret (Jaimie Bennett)
Hesla, all of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one daughter, Beth (Gregory Scholtz)
Hesla of Waverly, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Peter Scholtz, Rebecca Scholtz,
Anna (Audun) Hepsø, Paul Scholtz, Samuel Hesla, Rosina Hesla and Jeremy
Kleider; a sister, Joyce Lee of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a brother, Loren
(Iris) Hesla of Dallas, Texas; many nieces, nephews, patients, other
relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as two sisters,
Arlene and Helen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2013
at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with A.I.M. Todd Portinga officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 10
at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to the service
at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, with
a flag presentation by the American Legion Post 91. The family prefers
that memorials be directed to the St. Olaf Church Endowment Fund or to
Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Nolan Ray Hartley 1938-2013
Nolan Ray Hartley, 75, of Minneapolis died of heart failure February
5, 2013, at Mt. Olivet Careview in Minneapolis.
Nolan was born January 9, 1938, in Austin, Minnesota, to Raymond and
Mildred (Foss) Hartley. He attended Central High School in Austin, and
went on to be employed as a bus driver and work for Land O’ Lakes in his
younger years. In his free time, Nolan enjoyed fishing and playing bingo.
He is survived by three daughters, Debra Tappin, Sandra Blanton and Vicki
Dropik, all of Minneapolis; one brother, Kenneth Hartley of Austin; two
sisters, Barbara Prantner and Beverly Prantner, both of Austin; four
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Nolan was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Hartley; mother,
Mildred (Foss) Hartley; brother, Keith Hartley; and grandson, Adam Blanton.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2013, at Mt.
Olivet Careview, 5517 Lyndale Ave. S, Minneapolis, MN 55419, with Steve
Saindon officiating. Flowers and cards may be sent to that location.

Vernon J. Bolstad 1913-2013
#1:
Vernon J. Bolstad, 99, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, February
5, 2013, at Comforcare Good Samaritan.
Vernon was born September 19, 1913, in New Ulm, Minnesota, to John and
Mary (Hrusa) Bolstad. He graduated from New Ulm High School. Vernon served
in the United States Navy during World War II as a steam engineer and
married Frances Groebner of Springfield in 1943. He was discharged from
the Navy at the end of World War II with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
After living in Winona for a brief time, the family moved to Austin in
1945. Vernon worked for the Hormel Company for 33 years in the engine room.
He retired in 1978. Vernon was an avid Twins fan, enjoyed pheasant hunting
and fishing, and was an auto racing enthusiast. He was a member of
St. Augustine Catholic Church. Vernon will be deeply missed by friends
and family.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Bolstad, New Hope, Minnesota, and
John Bolstad, LaCrosse, Wisconsin; sister, Maxine Lilja, Monticello,
Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances on January 17, 2012.
A celebration of life will be held in May. Interment will be in Calvary
Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to St. Augustine Catholic Church or the
Salvation Army. Arrangements are by Mayer Funeral Home. Condolences may be

Vernon J. Bolstad, 99, Austin
Vernon J. Bolstad, 99, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, February

Charlotte Ann (Meilander) Rathke 1936-2013
Charlotte Ann Rathke, 76, Rochester, Minnesota, passed away peacefully
on February 7, 2013, at Season's Hospice after a long, brave battle with
cancer.
Charlotte was born on September 19, 1936, in Nicollet County to Bertha and
Matthias Meilander. She attended school in Fairfax, Minnesota, and graduated
from St. Mary's High School in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, in 1954. After
graduation, she attended a beauty college in Mankato. She worked in
beauty salons in Winona, Austin and Rochester. Charlotte married the
late David Rathke of Rochester on May 10, 1958, at St. Mary's Catholic
Church in Sleepy Eye. The couple raised four children.
While living in Austin, Minnesota, Charlotte worked at the Civic Center
as an usher. She enjoyed being active and loved bowling, golfing, playing
cards and going to casinos.
She is survived by her children, James (Gayla) Rathke, Susan (Michael)
Rathke, Peggy Taylor and Jon (Kristy) Rathke; four grandchildren, Tatiana,
Samuel, Courtney, Logan; step-grandchildren (and great-grandchildren)
Jerika (Iszic, Caitlin, Luke), Rob (Kielii), and Kurt; sisters, Beryle
(Don), Jane Pautz, and Joyce (Ronald) Herzog; sister-in-law Kathy Rathke
Hines; brothers-in-law Jon, Stan, Ron of Rochester and Allen Rathke; many
nieces and nephews; and other loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
A celebration of her life will be held at St. Pius Catholic Church in
Rochester at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 14, 2013. Father Paul Nelson, a longtime
family friend, will officiate. The family of Charlotte wishes to thank
Season's Hospice House and Father Nelson for all the love and support.

Linda Sue (Lerum) Schroeder 1952-2013
Linda Sue Schroeder, 60, passed away unexpectedly at her home in rural
Wykoff, Minnesota, on Monday, February 4, 2013.
Linda was born August 19, 1952, in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter
of Thomas and Marian (Snell) Lerum. She was a graduate of Austin
High School and then attended Austin Community College. She married Gary
Schroeder on April 19, 1975, in Austin. The couple made their home in
rural Wykoff. She worked for the Mayo Clinic in the emergency room at
St. Marys Hospital as an admissions secretary for 40 years. She retired
December 18, 2012.
Linda was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wykoff
where she sang in the church choir and was active in their circles. She
enjoyed sports, especially the Vikings and Twins, going to plays, gardening
and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Joseph (Jody) Schroeder of Oronoco; one
daughter, Sarah (Bryan) Konisiewicz of Rockville, Maryland; her four
beautiful grandchildren, Grace, Thomas, Raylee and James; her parents,
Marian and Thomas Lerum of Austin; two sisters, Paula (Melvin) Davis of
Bagley, Minnesota, Pam ( Don) Naatz of Waltham, Minn.; brothers and
sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary on December 10, 2005.
There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m., Friday, February 8, 2013,
at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert V. Stohlmann
and the Rev. Peter J. Sestak co-officiating. Burial of her ashes will be
in the Fillmore Cemetery. Friends may call at the Thauwald Funeral Home
in Wykoff 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday and at the church on Friday an hour before
the service. The family prefers memorials be given to St. John Evangelical

Lawrence Joseph Krachmer 1919-2013

Lawrence Joseph Krachmer, 94, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013,
at Comforcare Good Samaritan Rest Home.
Lawrence was born in Austin, Minnesota, on January 8, 1919, the son of
Frank Joseph and Lillian (Hanson) Krachmer. Lawrence was married to
Edith Mildred (Ellis) Krachmer on January 15, 1938, in Austin, Minnesota.
They just celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary.
He worked at Hormel for nearly 40 years, and was also a carpenter,
working both jobs full-time for 40 years. He built many new homes in
the Austin area and remodeled many more.
Lawrence was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Moose Club. He
and Millie loved to dance, and seldom missed a weekend dance at one of
the local dance halls, or clubs.
He was a great fan of the Minnesota Twins, and enjoyed bowling, golfing,
making crafts in his workshop, playing scrabble, card games and spending
time with this family.
Surviving are his wife, Millie; a son, Lanny (Karen); daughters,
Janet (Christopher) Thissen, Janice (Perrigo) and Steve, JoAnne (Clark)
and Ken of Austin, and Melody (Mark) Handalen, Ramstein AFB, Germany;
11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Laverne,
Francis, Robert; and sister, Florence (Ted) Johnson.
A celebration of his life for family and friends will be held at the
Courtyard Apartments Community Room, 310 Second Ave. NE on Sunday, February
17 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Lawrence Joseph Krachmer, 94, passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at

Clarence Lester Olswold 1920-2013
BORN AT LYLE, MINNESOTA
AMANA, IOWA - Clarence Lester Olswold, 92, of Amana, died Saturday
February 2, 2013, at Colonial Manor of Amana, Amana. Per his wishes,
his body was donated to the University of Iowa for medical research.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, at Trinity
Lutheran Church in Walford, Iowa, with Rev. David Mosher officiating. The
family will receive friends after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials
may be contributed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Walford. Kloster Funeral
Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
Clarence is survived by his wife Clarice; his sons, Eugene of New Ulm,
Minnesota, Allen (Kathy) of DeSoto, Texas, Charles (Alice) of Muscatine,
Richard (Bonnie) of Middlesex, New York, and Ronald (Debbie) of Walford;
nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
his parents Henry and Lillie Bagstad Olswold, along with a sister Mae Lugg.
Clarence Lester Olswold was born May 28, 1920, in Lyle, Minnesota, the
son of Henry Olswold and Lillie Bagstad Olswold. He graduated from Lyle
High School in 1937. He married Clarice Kirkeby on August 16, 1941 in
Osage. On April 5, 1942, he joined the Navy where he served for three
years on a submarine during World War II. In October 1945, Clarence
returned to Osage where he owned and operated a plumbing business. In
1967, the couple moved to the Amana and Williamsburg area, where he
worked as a cabinet and clock maker at Amana Furniture. Clarence was
a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Walford and Sub Vets of World War II.

Bernice Ruth (Rotermund) MALENKE 1919-2013
Bernice Ruth Malenke, 93, a longtime resident of Austin, Minnesota,
(wife of Glen Malenke) was received into glory on February 4, 2013, in
Tomball, Texas.
She was born to her parents, Emma Maria Louise Scheiwe and the Rev.
Frederich Herman Rotermund on July 23, 1919, the sixth child out of eight
in Hillsboro, North Dakota. She married Glen Charles Malenke on June 5,
1948, and celebrated more than 64 years of married life together. Bernice
was baptized into Christ as an infant and memorized most of Luther's
Catechism before her confirmation. She graduated as Valedictorian from
St. John's College, Winfield, Kansas, and helped put siblings through
college.
Employment for Bernice included secretarial church work, as well as
being a secretary with Social Security Services in Austin and with the
George A. Hormel U.S. Meat Inspection division. Bernice was a creative
and clever recipe creator, as attested to the fact that she won many
local, state and national recipe contests, including the Pillsbury Bakeoff,
for herself and her extended family. She was also a gifted natural vocal
and piano musician, and helped her children excel in music. Most use
their musical talents to daily glorify their Savior.
Bernice is survived by her youngest brother, Arnold Rotermund of
Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; four children, Norman, Norbert (N.J.),
Joeline (Mayes) and Dan. She also counted as rich blessings her 13
grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Two great-grandchildren and
six siblings preceded her in death.

Enrique Macias Loza 1980-2013
Enrique Macias Loza 32, of Austin, Minnesota, died February 6, 2013, at
his home in Austin.
He was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, July 15, 1980, to Javier and Beatriz
Macias. He married Liliana Macias on July 8, 2000. He has two siblings:
Fransisco Javier Macias who lives in California and Alejandrina Macias
who lives in Mexico.. His father Javier Macias also lives in Mexico.
A funeral mass for Enrique Macias Loza will be celebrated at Queen of
Angels Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at 11 a.m. Visitation
will be held one hour prior to services at the church and on Monday evening
from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin. Enrique will be interred
at Panteon Municipal de Atotonilquillo, Jalisco, Mexico.

Lucille C. (Baglo) Allen 1915-2013
Lucille C. Allen, 97, Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, February 7, 2013,
at her residence.
She was born November 7, 1915, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota to Conrad Baglo
and Clara Youngberg Baglo. Lucille graduated as valedictorian of her high
school class. She loved sewing, gardening, canning, puzzles and quilting
at St. Augustine and Queen of Angels. She was also fond of feeding things
she shouldn’t to her dog Pumpkin.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Earl Allen and numerous
family members. She is survived by her children: Joyce (Wayne) Heard,
Gary (Janelle) Allen, Roger Allen, Sandra (Denny) Keogh, Martin Allen,
Sharon (Dennis Bute) Allen, Daniel (Patti) Allen, Rebecca Kelsen, Ronald
Allen, Linda (Mark) Olson, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren
and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Lucille Allen will be held on Tuesday, February
12, 2013, at Mayer Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m with Father James Steffes
presiding. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral

Evelyn Marie (Kriha) "Ev" BEINHORN 1928-2013
Evelyn Marie "Ev" Beinhorn, age 84, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota,
passed away Saturday morning, February 9, 2013 at Prairie Manor Care Center
in Blooming Prairie. Ev was born on April 11, 1928 to Frank and Mayme
(Ambroz) Kriha in Le Sueur County, Minnesota. She grew up in Le Sueur
County and attended Montgomery area country schools.
Ev met Virgil Beinhorn when he was on leave from the Navy. She was
working candling eggs at that time. On September 18, 1950, the couple
married at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, Minnesota. To
this union four children were born. The couple worked together in a bakery
in New Prague and purchased the Blooming Prairie Bakery in 1963. They owned
and operated the Bakery until the mid-1980's. Virgil passed away on May 26,
1990.
Ev loved to embroider and spend time with her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. She was a great baker, famous for her Mocha Cakes
and cookies. She enjoyed fishing and volunteering at the Blooming Prairie
Senior Center. Ev was also a member at St. Columbanus Catholic Church where
she ran the Bake Sale at the Annual Spring Fair for many years.
Survivors include her four children; Virginia (Bill) Burgart of
Rochester, Minnesota, Cheryl Kruckeberg of Blooming Prairie, Roger (Cindy)
Beinhorn of Rochester, and Lynn (Duane) Hanson of Blooming Prairie;
eight grandchildren: Kasey (Marsha) Kruckeberg, Kerry (Chris) Finne, Nick
(Jackie) Burgart, Dennis (Stephanie Pate) Burgart, Brian (Jessica) Hanson,
Leah (Dan) Schiller, Tim Beinhorn and Becky (Cory Rislov) Beinhorn; and eight
great-grandchildren: Fisher and Bennett Kruckeberg, Josie and Allie Finne,
Grayson and Syndel Schiller and Reece and Hazel Hanson.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mayme (Ambroz)
Kriha, husband, Virgil, one sister, Helen, one brother, Leonard, one
son-in-law Kevin Kruckeberg, one great grandson, Jacob Finne and one
step brother, James.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday,
February 13, 2013 at St. Columbanus Catholic Church in Blooming Prairie,
Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the
Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and one hour before at the church.
Rosary service will be at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be at Red Oak Grove

Carol J. (Mellem) Whalen 1934-2013
Carol J. Whalen, 78, of Austin, Minnesota, died peacefully on Saturday,
February 9, 2013, at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
She had recently moved to Waconia, Minnesota, to be closer to her family.
Carol was born February 12, 1934, in Austin, Minnesota, to Carl O. and
Gudrun O. (Jacobson) Mellem. She graduated from Austin High School in
1952 and married Hugh Whalen on June 8, 1959, in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
They later divorced. Beginning in high school, she worked as a secretary
at Geo. A. Hormel & Co. in the corporate office in Austin until she left
in 1967 to raise her three children. She returned to work for the Austin
Public Schools system, first at the administration building and later as
the principal’s secretary at Southgate Elementary School, where she worked
until her retirement in 1996.
Carol was a longtime member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and loved
singing in the choir there for many years. She enjoyed reading, word
puzzles (including her favorite, Wheel of Fortune), cheering on the
Twins and Vikings, hummingbirds, and spending time with family and
friends. She especially enjoyed annual trips with her family to see
the fall colors along the Mississippi River, vacationing on Sanibel
Island Florida, boating and visiting with her children and grandchildren.
Carol was a wonderful person who will be greatly missed by her family and
many friends.
She is survived by sisters Doris (Bob) Harber of Blooming Prairie,
Beverly (Allan) Adamson of Minneapolis, and Patricia (Irv) Johnson of
Muskegon, Mich; children Chad Whalen of Savage, Stacy (Brad) Holzer of
Waconia, and Colin (Sherri) Whalen of Owatonna; and three grandchildren,
Emma Holzer of Waconia, Jordan and Connor Whalen of Owatonna; nieces,
nephews, and cousins. Carol is preceded in death by her parents; sister,
Shirley Folken; and brother, Donald Mellem.
Memorial services will be held Friday, February 15 at 11 a.m. at Our
Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. Glenn Monson officiating.
Visitation will be at Worlein Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 14 from 4 to
6 p.m., and at the church for one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Memorials are preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Condolences

Gary Grimley c1941-2013
Gary Grimley, 71, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013, at his home
after battling a long bout against cancer.
Gary is survived by his wife, Vickie, of Austin; one daughter, Penny
Whitknauer of Illinois; three sons, Todd Castro, Colorado, Rob Castro,
Colorado, and Brent Castro of Arizona; two stepdaughters, Dorie Sandrock,
Illinois, and Chris Ewald of Illinois; and 32 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Grimley.

Bailey Marie Kiefer 2013-2013
Bailey Marie Kiefer, 18 days old, passed away on Saturday, February
9, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Bailey Marie was born on January 22, 2013, the daughter of Michelle
Ness and Jeremy Kiefer in Rochester.
Bailey is survived by her parents, Michelle and Jeremy; grandparents,
Roger and Shirley Kiefer, Dexter, Minn.; Gary Ness and Shirlene Christians,
Fulda, Minn.; Gail Wokson, Slayton, Minn.; great-grandparents, Gaylord and
Shirley Winfield, LeRoy, Minn.; Richard and Catherine Ness, Ruthton, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents Roland and Dorothy
Kiefer and Charles and Nadine Wokson.
There will be a private family funeral service for Bailey Marie Kiefer
at Evanger Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dwight Dobell officiating.
Interment will be in Evanger Lutheran Cemetery. Czaplewski Family

Leo E. Murphy 1928-2013
Leo E. Murphy, 84, of Milaca, Minnesota, born September 12, 1928,
died February 7, 2013.
Leo served in the army during the Korean War. He worked for many years as a
lineman for Austin Utilities. In 1971, he accepted a job as a linemen
training and safety instructor with the Minnesota Department of Vocational
Education. In 1980, he became district manager, safety coordinator with
East Central Electric in Milaca. After several heart surgeries, Leo
retired in 1989 and spent winters in Ariz. He loved to fish and was
active in the community and at the Milaca Golf Course.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Winifred; son
Michael James; brother-in-law, Arden Stromberg; and great-granddaughter
Madison Corrigan.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; sister, Kathleen (Marion) Stanton;
sons, Thomas (Donna), Mark, Kevin (Elizabeth); daughter, Marcia (Tom)
Ritter; daughter-in-law, Patricia; step-daughters, Brenda (James) Olness
and Laurie (James) Corrigan; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren;
as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 625 Third
Ave. SE, Milaca on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 11 a.m., with visitation at the
church one hour prior. Memorials preferred to the Milaca Food Shelf or
to the Mille Lacs Health System Hospice Program. Peterson-Johnson Funeral

Lyle M. Spande 1927-2013
Lyle M. Spande, 85, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Friday afternoon,
February 8, 2013, at Austin Mayo Health Systems.
Lyle was born March 21, 1927, to Herme and Martha (Ekker) Spande at the
family farm in Preble Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota. Herme passed
away when Lyle was six years old, and several years later his mother and
two brothers moved to Austin. Lyle worked at Hormel for a while and was
sworn in to the Navy on his 17th birthday. He served in the south Pacific
and was present at the atom bomb test in July 1945.
On November 12, 1947, he married Nina Buck of Austin. They made their
home in San Francisco until he was honorably discharged from the Navy.
Then they returned to Austin, where Lyle went to work for Hormel again
and worked there for 39 years. When he retired, he and Nina spent their
winters in Yuma, Arizona, and their summers in Austin.
Lyle is survived by his wife of 65 years; two sons, Jerry (Helga) of
New Hampshire and Steve (Susan) of Minneapolis; two grandsons, Alexis
(Amy) of Colorado and Luke of Minneapolis; granddaughter Heidi of Vancouver
Island, Canada; three great-grandsons; brother, Kenneth (Patricia) of Oregon;
sister-in-law Beverly of Winona, Minnesota; brother-in-law Loren Sutherland
(Marion) of Sun City West, Arizona; many nieces and nephews.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Herme and Martha Spande;
brother Curtis; nephew David; father-in-law Kenneth Buck; mother-in-law
Gwen Buck; sister-in-law Jo Ann Sutherland.
Lyle donated his body to science. He will be sadly missed by all who
knew him.

Margaret V. Konken 1921-2013
Margaret V. Konken, nee Schmidt, 91, of Brownsdale, Minnesota, died
Monday, February 11, 2013, at Adams Health Care Center.
Margaret Vera Schmidt was born May 30, 1921, in Kiester, Minnesota,
to Otto and Henrietta (Lembke) Schmidt. She was a lifelong Brownsdale
area resident. On July 20, 1941, Margaret married Frederick W. Konken
at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Waltham, Minn. Fred passed away on
July 31, 2010. A member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brownsdale, she
spent many hours volunteering at the church she loved. She also enjoyed
spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, and baking. She took
great joy in being a homemaker.
Survivors include her three children, Betty (Nathan) Merten of Brownsdale,
Eleanore (Darrel) Gordon of Adams, Minnesota, Donald (Leah) Konken of Austin;
two grandchildren, Lisa (Dan) Landherr of Wyoming, Minnesota, and Paul Gordon
of Brownsdale; four great-grandchildren Nathan, Tyrone, Mary and
Karl Landherr of Wyoming; brother, Alfred (June) Schmidt of Rockford,
Illinois; brother-in-law Walter (Bernice) Konken of Austin; two
sisters-in-law Grace (Mike) Miner of Winona and Florence Beyer of
Green Leaf, Wisconsin; special grandchildren Jessika Barahona of
Owatonna, Marina Zapparoli of Italy, Irene Bernal of Spain, Miguel
Spada of Argentina, Ahmet Ayca of Turkey, Alican Ayca of New York,
Enith Espino of Panama; special great-grandchildren Attina Earl of
Austin and Matthew Earl of Owatonna; many nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Henrietta (Lembke)
Schmidt; her husband Frederick W. Konken; an infant son; granddaughters
Elizabeth Rose and Marianne Margaret Konken; two infant brothers; sister
and brother-in-law Frebert and Marie Ehmke.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013,
at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brownsdale with the Rev. Jeffery Sage
officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Brownsdale.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013,
at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to the service at

Arthur William Gerber 1921-2013
Arthur William Gerber, 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday
evening, February 9, 2013, at St. Marks Nursing Center in Austin, Minnesota.
Arthur was born at his parents' farm south of Taopi, Minnesota, on
June 22, 1921, the son of John and Martha (Blonigan) Gerber. Arthur was
married to Jurine (Johnson) Gerber on April 23, 1946, at Queen of Angels
Catholic Church in Austin, Minnesota. They celebrated more than 66 years
of marriage.
Arthur worked at Hormel Foods for 42 years. While employed at Hormel,
he was drafted in to the Army during World War II. He was assigned to the
807 Chemical Unit of the Ninth Army Air Corps. He was stationed in Europe
and served from 1942 to 1945 as a Tech 5 Corporal. Arthur has been honored
by wife Jurine for services to his country by visiting the National World
War II Memorial in Washington D.C. in 2004. She registered him on the

Arthur was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Eagles and the Moose
Club, where both he and Jurine loved to dance on weekends. He was an avid
fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He loved walking, biking, traveling,
feeding the birds in his backyard and spending time with his family. He
enjoyed talking to people and took great pleasure in joking and making
them laugh.
Though he was a full blooded German, after marrying Jurine, a Norwegian,
he developed a fondness for the traditional Norwegian meal of lutefisk and
lefse dinners during the Christmas season. This seasonal feast is now a
cherished family tradition enjoyed by his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Jurine; sons Daryl (Linda), Silver Bay, Minnesota,
and Dale, Golden Valley, Minnesota; daughter Sharlyn Hall, Greenfield,
Minnesota; four grandchildren, Rachelle Gerber, Sarah Stewart, Jacob Gerber
and Cassidy Hall; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild;
two brothers Jerome, Adams, Minnesota, and Lawrence Gerber; sister-in-law
Rosemary Johnson, Austin; in-laws Burnell and Phyllis Turvold, Beloit,
Illinois; many nieces and nephews.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; son Sheldon; brothers
Raymond and Robert Gerber; sisters Serelda Kramer and Florence Fasbender;
brother-in-law Dean Johnson; sister-in-laws Elvira Johnson, Arleen Reed
and Cleone Johnson; nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Arthur's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February
15, 2013, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper
officiating. A wake will also be held Feb. 14 at Mayer Funeral Home.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Rosary will start at 4 and a prayer
service will start at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church
at 10 a.m. Friday. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Following
services, lunch will be served at the Queen of Angels Cunningham Hall.

Daniel Shawn Kinney 1971-2013
Daniel Shawn Kinney, 41, of Kearney, Mississippi, went to be with Jesus
on February 9, 2013.
Dan was born on October 27, 1971, in Austin, Minnesota, the son of Fred
and Joyce (Pleiss) Kinney. He was a 1995 graduate of the University of
Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, Wisconsin. While attending school, he
was introduced to Ann Gardner through a mutual friend, Maggie. Their
first date was on Valentine’s Day in 1991. Ann knew she would marry
him someday. Over the years, they stayed in touch and eventually
reconnected even after he moved to Missouri in 1996. They were united
in marriage on August 28, 1999, in Austin, Minnesota. Dan was a truly
devoted son as well as the most loving and thoughtful husband. He adored
his two children, who miss him terribly.
His love for his family and our love for him is "indescribable," said
Alison, 11.
"He was my favorite person in the house," said Matthew, 6 1/2.
Dan was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey Kinney.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Ann; daughter, Alison Belle Kinney;
son, Matthew Frederick Kinney; parents, Fred and Joyce Kinney all of
Kearney; brothers, Steve Kinney and John Kinney; as well as many aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. We will
all miss his laugh and genuine smile.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday,
February 16 at Hidden Valley Funeral Home in Kearney. A celebration
of Dan's life will be held at noon, following the visitation. The family
suggests memorial contributions be made care of Hidden Valley Funeral Home.

LeRoy Lee Linderman 1932-2013
LeRoy Linderman, 80, of LeRoy, Minnesota, died Wednesday, February 13,
2013, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
LeRoy Lee Linderman was born February 15, 1932, in Cresco, Minnesota,
to Roy and Florence (Kilby) Linderman. He joined the U.S. Army in 1949
and was discharged in 1951. On October 11, 1952, he was united in marriage
to LuluBelle Hansen and to this union three children were born: Mark, Kathy
and Joel.
LeRoy was a member of the LeRoy American Legion. He enjoyed hunting
and fishing and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his
grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife LuluBelle of LeRoy; his children, Mark and
LuAnn Linderman of Rochester, Kathy and Tom Gasca of Stewartville, Minnesota,
and Joel Linderman of LeRoy; six grandchildren, Tara (Mitch) Dvorak, Amanda
Linderman, Amber Diderrich, Lindsey (Bill) Royer, Jennifer Linderman and
Jordan Smith; seven great-grandchildren; one sister; Lucille (John) Crum
of Mason City, Iowa; and three brothers, Dale (Karen) Linderman of Mason City,
Ronald (Dianne) Linderman and Francis (Kathy) Ranc of New Hampton, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-grandson, Logan; two
brothers, Robert and Darrold; and three sisters, Pauline, Alice and Dorothy.
Funeral services for LeRoy L. Linderman will be held 10:30 a.m.
Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at the LeRoy Lutheran Church with the Rev. Herman

Audrey Elaine (Davis) Hurmence 1925-2013
Audrey Elaine Hurmence, 87, of Austin, Minnesota, died February 10,
2013, with her loving family at her side.
Audrey was born on December 29, 1925, on a farm in Fayette County,
Iowa. The eldest of three daughters born to Oakley and Marie (Bennington)
Davis, Audrey graduated from Fayette High School in 1943 and attended Upper
Iowa University in Fayette, where she graduated on August 9, 1946, with a
bachelor of arts degree.
One day later, she married Wayne Hurmence at the Methodist Church
in Fayette, Iowa. Audrey taught high school business courses in Maynard
and Randalia, Iowa, over the next two years while Wayne finished his
college degree. They taught high school for a year in Graettinger,
Iowa, and then moved to Independence, Iowa, where they started their
family. In 1951, they moved to Austin, Minn., where they lived for the
rest of their lives.
Audrey was a homemaker for 25 years raising her five children. In the
mid 1970's she returned to work after brushing up her professional business
skills at the Austin Community College. She worked for 20 years as a
bookkeeper and an officer for the Minnesota Trust Company.
Audrey lived a faith-filled life. She and Wayne joined First United
Methodist Church in Austin where she was an active member for 62 years.
She was a Sunday School teacher, a Vacation Bible School teacher, newsletter
editor, and was active in women’s groups and Circle. In later years, she
established her own ministry to senior church members by sending personal
cards recognizing their special occasions. She also held several leadership
positions within the church and combined her faith and love of music through
singing in the chancel choir and the contemporary music group. She and Wayne
were also active in Questers.
Audrey was also active in the community serving as PTA treasurer,
Girl Scout leader, a Miss Minnesota Pageant chaperone and a member of
the Austin Symphony Chorus. She also enjoyed photography and took great
pleasure in planning and taking touring vacations to visit U.S. historical
landmarks and the natural beauty of America with her family.
Audrey is survived by her four daughters, the Rev. Mary Hurmence,
Lakeville, Minnesota; Helen Hurmence, Chaska, Minnesota; Carol (Brian) Eidt,
McLean, Virginia; Sharon (Steven) Weber, St. Paul, Minnesota; and son, John
(Jackie) Hurmence, Caledonia, Michigan; 11 grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; sister, Norma (Bob) Mentzer, Tucson, Arizona;
nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Hurmence; her parents,
Oakley and Marie Davis; sister Shirley Livingstone; and daughter-in-law,
Margaret.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Music Program;
to Mayo Clinic, Department of Development, for heart failure research; or
to Seasons Hospice of Rochester.
Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Austin,
Saturday, Feb. 16, 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Ted G. Colescott officiating.

LaDonna G. (Ploof) Hoffman 1931-2013
LaDonna G. Hoffman, 82, of Austin, Minnesota, went home to be with the
Lord on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.
LaDonna was born January 5, 1931, in Rochester, Minnesota, to Callan and
Theresa Ploof. LaDonna attended Rochester Public Schools until she moved
to Austin with her family and graduated from Austin High School. On May
9, 1954, she was united in marriage to Robert Hoffman. LaDonna was a
member of Grace Baptist Church and worked for Hormel for a short time
before quitting to be a homemaker. Her hobbies were helping her husband
in his woodworking shop and gardening. She loved the outdoors, mowing the
lawn and helping her neighbors. She would just be there to listen and visit
with friends. When her children were small she would take them to A&W every
Saturday. Her grandchildren were a huge part of her life. She took them
shopping, had sleepovers and baked cookies for them.
LaDonna was preceded in death by her parents and husband Robert.
Survivors include her children, Brad Hoffman of Brainerd, Minnesota,
Lynn Kinnear (Randy Cardwell) of Waite Park, Minn.; grandchildren,
Samantha Kinnear (Jon Williams) and Alex Kinnear all from Austin;
sister Theresa Grover of Euless, Texas; brothers Berwyn Ploof of
Austin and David Ploof (Patty) of Rapid City, South Dakota; and
cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for LaDonna Hoffman will be held on Saturday,
February 16, 2013, at Faith Evangelical Free Church at noon, officiated
by Pastor Gordon Larson. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services

Robert Michael Anderley1955-2013
Robert Michael Anderley, 58, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday,
February 9, 2013, after a long battle with chronic lung disease.
Bob was born January 26, 1955, in Austin to Virgil and Arlene Anderley.
He was a CNC machinist for numerous companies. He had a passion for drawing
and painting, loved to fish, ride bike, play basketball with his nieces and
nephews, and he played a mean air guitar.
Bob loved his many friends and had a generous spirit and kindness to
those in need. He will be sadly missed by all.
Survivors include his daughters, Amber Anderley and Kham Chandy, Austin,
Katie Anderley, Mankato, Minnesota; granddaughter, Kasey Chandy, Austin;

Lucille E. (Yarwood) Kjarum 1930-2013

Lucille E. Kjarum, 82, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, February
13, 2013, at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.
Lucille was born on April 21, 1930, in Lansing, Minnesota, to Guy
and Hazel (Wilson) Yarwood. She graduated from Austin High School and
was married Roy A. Kjarum on December 18, 1948, in Austin. Lucille worked
in food service at the Austin High School Cafeteria for 27 years.
Lucille was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She adored her
great-grandchildren, enjoyed spending time with all of her family and
spending summers at the cabin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roy and eight siblings.
Lucille is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Mike
Hangge, Arden Hills, Minnesota, Judi and Dan McMullen, Conifer, Colorado;
son and daughter-in-law: Jon and Megen Kjarum, St. Paul, Minnesota;
grandchildren, Kristin, Aaron, Jae, Jenni and Jeff; great-grandchildren,

Donald D. Turner, 80, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, February 13,
2013, at his home.
Donald was born on March 17, 1932, in Austin to George and Anna (Record)
Turner. After attending Austin High School, he received his GED while serving
in the U.S. Air Force. Don was stationed in many places in the U.S.,
including Georgia, Texas and New Mexico. After his discharge, he returned
home to Austin where he worked various jobs before starting with 7-Up
Bottling Company, where he worked for 18 years. He then took a job with
Jim Lebens Ford in Austin, finishing his working years as a security guard
for Hormel Foods. On Sept. 16, 1950, he married Beverly Stundahl at
St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. They celebrated their 61st anniversary
on Sept. 16, 2011. Beverly passed away on May 21, 2012. The couple enjoyed
traveling, and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Christofferson of Owatonna;
son Donald S. (Patty) Turner of Afton, Minn.; three grandchildren, Beth
(Matt) Kunkel of Mankato, and Jesse and Cody Christofferson of Owatonna;
sister, Georgia Nelson of Austin; sisters-in-law Merlene Smith and Sandra
(Bill) Knopf of Rochester, Joyce Stundahl, Shirley Stundahl and Rose
Stundahl, all of Austin; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Beverly; his parents
George and Anna Turner; sister and brother-in-law Lillian (Lloyd) Gaul;
brothers-in-law Donald Nelson, Everett Stundahl, Melvin Stundahl, Duane
Stundahl and Charlie Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013,
at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Karen Grandall
officiating. Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday at
Worlein Funeral Home. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, with
military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216. Condolences

Grace Barbara (Schnirring) Gillette c1923-2013
Grace Barbara Gillette, 89, of Brownsdale, Minnesota, passed away at
the Grand Meadow Health Care Center on February 12, 2013.
Grace was born in Waltham, Minnesota, to her parents, Walter and Leitha
(Patterson) Schnirring. She was baptized at the Hayfield Presbyterian Church
where she was a lifetime member. She attended Waltham Elementary School and
graduated from Hayfield High School. She also graduated from the Austin
Teacher Training Department and from Winona State College with a teaching
degree.
She married Robert Lowell Gillette at the Hayfield Presbyterian Church
on June 14, 1944. They lived in St. Paul during World War II, where they
both worked in a government plant where cannons and guns were manufactured
for use in World War II.
After the war, they moved to Waltham for several years and then moved
to the Gillette family's Century Farm (Homestead Acres) near Brownsdale.
This farm has been in the family since 1833. Grace returned to her 45-year
teaching career. She taught in schools in the Waltham, Sargeant, Hayfield
and Brownsdale areas. After retirement, she organized the Brownsdale Schools
PIE organization. Another of her achievements was the writing of the history
book of Brownsdale 1856-1996. The proceeds from the sales of the books were
donated to the Brownsdale School. She was instrumental in the creation of
the present Brownsdale Library, which was later named The Brownsdale, Grace
Gillette, Public Library.
She is survived by her son Keith and Charlotte (Wencl) Gillette,
Brownsdale; grandson, Ryan and Sara (Prihoda) Gillette, Brownsdale;
granddaughter Andrea and Clinton Gerner, St. Paul, Minnesota;
great-grandchildren William, Steven and Betsy Gillette, Brownsdale; and
Elayna Gerner, St. Paul; sisters, Doris Schneider, Austin, Minnesota, and
June Houck, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sisters-in-law Connie Schnirring,
Waltham and Glenda Schnirring, Hastings, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert Gillette; her
parents Walter and Leitha Schnirring; her four brothers, Wayne, Dale,
Walter and Erwin Schnirring; and sisters-in-law Phyllis Schnirring and
Eva Schnirring.
A memorial open house will be held on Saturday, February 23 from 1 to
4 p.m. at the Brownsdale Community Center. Her wish was to have her body
donated to the Mayo System for Medical Research as her husband had donated
his body before her. The family requests memorials to be given to The 203
Education Foundation, Brownsdale Elementary School, or the Brownsdale Grace
Gillette Public Library.

David Jerome Miller 1949-2013
David Jerome Miller, 63, of Austin, Minnesota, died unexpectedly at the
Twin Towers on Wednesday, February 13, 2013.
David was born May 27, 1949, in Austin to Robert and Mabel Miller. He
grew up in Austin, where he graduated from high school. David was the
assistant manager of the Sinclair stations for 10 years and after that
he worked at the thrift store at the Mower County Senior Center.
David enjoyed playing darts, attending hockey games, playing cards and
going to the casino.
Survivors include two sisters, Darlene Bos, Austin, and Chris Castle,
Rochester; a brother, Ronald (Judy) Miller, Austin; sister-in-law, Sharon
Miller, Austin; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Darwin "Teats"
Miller and Jim Miller; his niece, Tammy Bos.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013,
at Mayer Funeral Home with the Rev. Dale Christiansen officiating. Friends
may call one hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Tuesday.
Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Condolences may be left online

Ardell O. Blume, 72, Grand Prairie, Texas
Ardell O. Blume, 72, of Grand Prairie, Texas, and formerly of Austin,
Minnesota, passed away at his home on December 16, 2012.
He is survived by his sisters, Arlene (Donald) Chapek and Rose Nelson;
one brother, Mike Blume of Twin Falls, Idaho; and one son, Jamie Blume of
Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Marilyn Lorraine (Wilsie) King 1924-2013
Marilyn Lorraine King, 88, of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, February
14, 2013, at Prairie Manor in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.
Marilyn was born December 6, 1924, in Grand Meadow, Minnesota, to Lynn
and Opal Wilsie. Marilyn grew up in Grand Meadow where she graduated from
high school. She later went on to marry Paul J. King and they made their
home in Austin. Marilyn was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church.
She enjoyed playing cards and hand stitching rugs, but her greatest joy
was listening to high school basketball games on the radio.
Survivors include her children, Carol King, Albert Lea, Minnesota,
Dennis (Ann-Marie) King, Shakopee, Minn., Lynn (Kevin) Theobald, Austin,
David (Deb) King, Austin, Scott (Penny) King, Austin; six grandchildren,
Troy and Norie Anderson, Albert Lea, Tracy and Greg Lukes, Austin, Travis
and Angie Anderson, Austin, Nicolas Finholdt, Austin, Christopher King,
Maplewood, Minnesota; six great-grandchildren, Heather, Skyler, Ryan,
Tanner and Emmie Anderson, Cale Finholdt; two nephews, Michael, Rochester,
Minn., Jay, Byron, Minnesota.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul; parents; son, Brian;
sister, Loreen.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 23,
2013, at Mayer Funeral Home with Father Dale Tupper officiating. Friends

Mary Marcella (Carroll) Durben 1931-2013
Mary Marcella (Carroll) Durben, 82, of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday,
February 17, 2013, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
She was born on January 28, 1931, in Austin, the daughter of Edward and
Martha Carroll. On February 20, 1954, she married Norman Durben at
St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. They farmed in the Meyer,
Iowa, area for many years. Norman started working at Hormel in Austin
in 1970. They moved to Stacyville, Iowa, in 1973. In 1982, they moved
to Austin, where they retired.
Mary enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and children, reading,
being Irish and playing cards. She was a member of the American Legion
Auxiliary of Stacyville, the VFW Auxiliary of Osage, and the Golden Age
Club of Austin. She will be remembered for her very infectious laugh.
Survivors include her husband, Norman Durben, Austin; three daughters,
Pat Levorson, St. Ansgar, Iowa, Rose (Keith) Hemann, Iowa City, Iowa, Judy
(Michael) Starr, Rochester, Minn.; two sons, Michael (Trudy) Durben, Austin,
Jerome (Lara) Durben, Buffalo, Minn.; son-in-law, John (Sarah) Peterson,
Lanesboro, Minn.; 13 grandchildren, Kristy Levorson, Kimberly (Cory)
Nelson, Tiffany Burlingame, Jason (Lori Duit) Hemann, Lindsey (David)
Brandon, Chandler, Corbin and Kayla Starr, Katlyn, Erik, Andrew and
Isabelle Peterson, Joseph Durben; two great-grandchildren, Kyleigh
Burlingame and Parker Nelson.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joseph Carroll;
daughter, Diane Durben-Peterson.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at
Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. There
will be a 4 p.m. CCW rosary on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends
may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church
on Friday. Interment will be in Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville, Iowa. In
lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to donor's choice. Online

Merton Arthur DeBoer 1925-2013
Merton Arthur DeBoer, 87, of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday, February
17, 2013, at home surrounded by his children, grandchildren, sister, brother
and favorite nephew. After 22 years, he joined the love of his life, together
again forever in Heaven.
Merton was born March 8, 1925, to Henry "Hank" and Helen (Bryza) DeBoer
in Dexter, Minn. He was the seventh child of eight. Mert married Vernetta
Klapperick on November 22, 1947. In the bright red house they raised their
seven kids. According to family history, they had the first set of DeBoer
twins.
Mert worked at Hormel for 45 years. In his younger years, he could be
seen around town with his bobcat and dump truck plowing snow, mowing
ditches, and doing dirt work and cemetery care. He was always there for
anyone needing help. Work was his favorite pastime.
Mert was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He served in
both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marines.
Survivors include his children, LaVonne (Phil) Jackson, Parker, Colorado,
Ginger Taylor, San Tan Valley, Arizona, Hope (Tom) Wurster, Medford,
Minnesota, Holly Allen, Austin, Hal DeBoer, Syracuse, N.Y., Sidney DeBoer,
Austin; daughter-in-law, Frances DeBoer, Austin; 19 grandchildren;
18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Viola
Stahl, Austin; brother, Lynn DeBoer, Stewartville, Minnesota.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife; son, Timmy; two
sons-in-law, Randy and Milo; parents; two sisters; three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2013,
at Mayer Funeral Home with Father John Traufler officiating. Friends may
call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and also one hour before the service
at Mayer Funeral Home on Thursday. Interment will be in the Dexter Cemetery

Harry L. Morgan 61, died unexpectedly on Saturday at his home at 1502
4th Ave. NW, after suffering a heart attack.
He was employed by George A. Hormel and Company. Surviving are his
widow, Ora; two sons, Ralph Morgan, Owatonna and Royal Morgan, Austin;
daughter, Mrs. Gary (Rosemary) Stephens, Austin; a granddaughter, Lana
Lee Stephens, Austin; three brothers, David of Ottertail, Minnesota,
and Myron of Claremont, Minnesota; a sister, Mrs. Alfred (Blanche) Hansen,
Austin; a half-sister, Mrs. J.O. (Ruth) Martin, Kansas City, Missouri; a
half-brother, William Pilgrim, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday.

Harry was in Grocery Products Cold Storage for most of his 23 years
with Hormel.

Annie (Vogelsang) Vermilyea 1927-2013
Annie "Ann" Vermilyea, 85, of Dexter, Minnesota, died Monday, February
18, 2013, at Our House Memory Care in Austin after a heroic battle with
Lewy Body dementia and Parkinson’s disease.
The daughter of George and Reka (Hofdman) Vogelsang, Annie was born
on May 20, 1927, on the family farm. She was the fifth of 12 children.
She attended the Monitor Rural School through eighth grade, and then two
years of high school in Elkton, Minn. Ann often told of milking 20 cows
alone on Monday nights so the family could attend the free movie in Dexter.
On November 22, 1945, she married Everett Vermilyea at St. John's
Lutheran Church in Elkton. To this union five children were born. Ann
worked as a waitress at Nickerson Farms and the Windmill Restaurant. A
member of Dexter United Methodist Church, Ann taught Sunday school and
belonged to the Evening Circle. She was an avid bowler and won many
trophies. She liked playing cards (500) in the Monitor Neighbors Card
Club, going to the casino and gardening flowers and vegetables. Her
greatest love was doing daycare, which she did for 20 years. These
children came to be like family to Ann.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Everett Vermilyea of
Dexter; her children Kenneth (Elaine) Vermilyea of Blooming Prairie,
Minnesota, Ronald (Kaloha) Vermilyea of Bull Shoals, Arkansas, Daniel
(Joyce) Vermilyea of Austin, Cathy (Dave) Braaten of Dexter;
daughter-in-law Colleen Vermilyea of West Concord, Minnesota; eight
grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Halvorson
of Phoenix, Arizona, Helen (Ralph) Colberg of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Clara
Vasey of Austin, Margaret Schraefel of Austin; two brothers George
Vogelsang of Mammoth Springs, Arkansas, and John Vogelsang of Austin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Reka Vogelsang;
a son, Dean Vermilyea on May 2, 2010; a granddaughter Kim Vermilyea; five
brothers Lupke, Bernard, Rudy, Henry, and Fred.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013,
at Dexter United Methodist Church with the Rev. Karen Ashton officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Dexter United
Methodist Church, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Interment will be in the Dexter Cemetery. Worlein Funeral Home of
Austin is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be
