Wallace Andrew Powell

1926-2013

allace Andrew Powell, 86, of Hampton, Iowa, and formerly of LeRoy, Minnesota, passed away January 6, 2013, at the Franklin Nursing Facility in Hampton of natural causes.

He was born February 8, 1926, in Mammoth Springs, Arkansas, to James Ray Powell and Lily Pepper. On June 5, 1948, Wallace was united in marriage to Florence Backus and together they lived near LeRoy until the late 1960s when they moved to Brooklyn Park, Minn. They had three children: Vernon, Karen, and Ricky.

As a child, Wallace lived in Chinook, Montana, and Mammoth Springs. Later he worked in the Iron Ore Mines near Spring Valley, Minnesota. He also drove semi for Armstrong Trucking and Oliver Manufacturing in Charles City, Iowa, and worked as an electric motor technician in Minnesota. He retired and continued farming in Milaca, Minn. After his wife Florence passed away in 2009, he lived with his daughter Karen in Hampton, Iowa. He loved to farm, fish and camp.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen (Steve) Kulow of Hampton; sons, Vernon (Kathleen) Powell of Hope, Minn., and Ricky (Ronda) Powell of Hot Springs; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson, a five-generation family; a brother, Rollie Powell; and sisters Opal Uher and Hazel Powell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; his parents; brothers, Clay and Elzie; an infant sister; and one great grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy with interment at the LeRoy cemetery.

Carmine Lisbeth (Zeller) Henricks

c1944-2012

Carmine Lisbeth Henricks, 68, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away December 17, 2012, after a long battle with pulmonary issues.

Born and raised in Austin, Minnesota, to Wilton Ross and Miriam K. Zeller, Carmine always had a smile, kind word and always gave more than she took. Carmine was a fantastic wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt and friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her parents and loving daughter Anna. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Tom; son, Charlie (Whitney); grandson, Jared Day; brother, Vic Zeller (Margie); and son in law, Rick Gunn.

Funeral services will be held at the Carmichael Funeral Home Chapel in Marietta Georgia 770-424-4924 on Jan. 19, 2013. Visitation will be at 1 p.m., with the memorial service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gaston Hospice, 258 E. Garrison Boulevard, Gastonia, NC 28054.

Mary (Simon) Waldorf

1854-1949

MRS. MARY WALDORF
DIED AT STACYVILLE
AT 94 YEARS OF AGE

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Simon Waldorf, 94, of Stacyville, Iowa, were held Friday morning, February 18, 1949, at St. John's church at Johnsburg, Minnesota. Burial was made in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Waldorf died last Tuesday at the Falk nursing home in Stacyville at the age of 94 years and five months.

She was born in Marytown, Wisconsin, April 12, 1854, and married Matt Waldorf, who died 25 years ago. Mrs. Waldorf spent most of her life in Mitchell County, with the exception of a few years at Stewart, Minnesota. She was a faithful member of the Catholic church all her life and belonged to the Christian Mother Society.

Surviving are one son, John, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, one daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Fanata, Stewart, Minnesota, 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and three daughters.

Ralph Marvin Senjem

1916-2013

Ralph Marvin Senjem, 96, passed away on January 5, 2013, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield, Minnesota.

Ralph Marvin Senjem was born on February 6, 1916, the son of August and Susan (Spiten) Senjem in rural Hayfield. He was raised in Hayfield and farmed all his life in Vernon Township. Ralph was united in marriage to Anita Matter on Aug. 20, 1940, at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Waltham, Minn. Ralph and Anita moved into Hayfield in 1976. Ralph enjoyed fishing, golfing and music.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Anita Senjem, Hayfield; daughters, Jeaneen (Mark) Staples, Star Prairie, Wis., SueAnn (Al) Collinge, Plant City, Fla., LaDonna (Bryan) Senjem-Olson, Pine Island, Minn.; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Delores Fredrickson, Hayfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three infant sons, Steven and twin boys Dennis and Dallas.

The funeral service for Ralph Marvin Senjem will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Evanger Lutheran Church, 33554 660th Ave., Sargeant, Minn., with the Rev. Dwight Dobell officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be in Evanger Lutheran Cemetery. Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Hayfield is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary

Robert A. "Bob" Vietor, age 86 of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

He was born April 28, 1926 in Montevideo, Minnesota, to Aleidus and Genevieve (Lutz) Vietor. After graduating from Monroe High School in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1943, Bob served his country in the United States Navy from 1944-1946. He returned to Albert Lea where family was living, until moving to Austin in 1953. In April 1956, Bob married Dolores Watkins in Rochester, Minnesota.

He and Dolores enjoyed spending winters in Florida and summers at their lake home on Lake Jefferson. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping. Dolores passed away in 1992. Over the course of his career, Bob ran the family trucking company, worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for nine years, and then as a car salesman at Usem in Austin for 25 years before retiring in 1988. He held a number of state and local offices in the Loyal Order of Moose since 1952, including Deputy State Director.

Survivors include his siblings, David (Marcie) Vietor of Hamilton, Ohio, Marian (Jesse) Greer of San Antonio, Texas, Irene Santiago of Concord, California, and Joyce Jepson of Arlington, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents Aleidus and Genevieve Vietor, his wife Dolores, one brother, and one sister.

The family wishes to acknowledge the compassionate efforts of Doctors Ratalle, Mullach, and Brown in Bob's last hours.

A private family graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield. Memorials can be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Eugene O. Smith

1949-2012

Eugene O. Smith, 63, of Lake City, Minnesota, died on December 22, 2012, at his home in Lake City.

Eugene Orville Smith was born October 4, 1949, in Austin, Minnesota, to Orville V. and Margaret B. (Bigelow) Smith. He attended elementary and high school in Austin graduating in 1967 and then attended Austin Community College. Eugene served his country in the US Army from March 27, 1969, to March 1, 1975, after serving in the Vietnam War he moved to Minneapolis for several years. He then moved to Lake City in 1975 where he worked for his brother Kenneth at Smitty's Marine Inc., retiring in 2011.

Eugene was a season ticket holder for the Minnesota Vikings, and was a member of the Bowling League in Lake City for several years. He enjoyed yard work, taking care of his flowers and watching the birds and animals. Eugene especially enjoyed visiting with the seasonal people at Lake Pepin Campground.

Eugene is survived by one sister, Patricia (Thomas) Higgins of Austin; three brothers, Kevin (Sandy) Smith and Kenneth (Merri Lea) Smith, both of Lake City, and Christopher (Sherri) Smith of Woodbury, Minn.; nieces and nephews, Gina Higgins, Angela Higgins, Scott Higgins, Trina Ohde, Jennie Smith Morris, Benjamin Smith, Joshua Smith, Melinda Smith, Korissa Smith, Alexandra Smith and Nathan Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The memorial service for Eugene will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013, at the Lake City Sportsman Club in Lake City with Father Joseph Pete officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Lake City. Friends and family may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel in Lake City and one hour prior to the service at the Lake City Sportsman Club on Saturday, Jan. 12. Memorials are preferred.

Jean (Tollefson) Gappa

1939-2013

Jean Gappa, 73, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013, in Albert Lea.

Jean was born on September 23, 1939, to Tillman and Verlie (Christianson) Tollefson. She grew up in Maple Island and attended Albert Lea High School. She worked for Scotsman Ice for 25 years and after retirement she moved into Albert Lea in the early 2000s. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Jean loved spending time with her kids and grandkids, taking them shopping and then to lunch. She enjoyed puzzles and reading. Family was very important to her.

Jean is survived by her children, Dale (Jackie) Gappa of Brownsdale, Minn., Linda (Wayne) Thompson of Albert Lea, and Brenda Sorenson (Rick Johnson) of Albert Lea; grandchildren, Ryan Gappa, Drew Gappa and Chelsey, Carter Gappa, Jacob Thompson, Luke Thompson, Parker Thompson, Taylor Thompson, Tyler Hammer and his fiancé Brittany, Markie Sorenson, and Mallory Sorenson; brother, Darrel (Marlene) Tollefson of Burnsville, Minn.; sister, Judy (Bob) Remker of Blooming Prairie, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Tillman and Verlie; and her grandparents.

The memorial service for Jean S. Gappa will be held on Wednesday, January 9, at 2 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea. Pastor Joel Vano will officiate. Interment will be in the Red Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation one hour prior to the service.

Bryan L. Green

1941-2013

Bryan L. Green, 71, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, January 7, 2013, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

Bryan was born June 20, 1941, in Brownsdale, Minnesota, to Lester and Marjorie Green. He grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School. Following graduation, he served four years in the Army. On August 25, 1963, he married Carol Greenameyer in Austin. The couple settled in Austin and raised two children. Bryan worked at IBM in Rochester before retirement. He enjoyed photography, fishing and spending time with his family. He was a friend to many.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Green, Austin; son, Tony (Shelby) Green, Eagan, Minnesota; daughter, Tracy Green, Owatonna, Minnesota; granddaughter, Paige, Eagan; brother, Bruce Green, Crawford, Colorado; sister, Barb (Don) Sprandel, Austin; nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Kimberly; and brother, Jan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bill Odermann officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home and also one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Thomas E. Clennon, 40, Austin

Thomas E. Clennon, 40, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at home after a nine-month battle with cancer.

Thomas Eugene was born on October 20, 1972, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Eugene "Pat" and Louise (Bednar) Clennon. He graduated from Austin High School in 1991. He graduated from the University of Minnesota at Crookston, where he earned his bachelor of science degree in natural resource management.

Tom was a unique, interesting, and unforgettable person who was devoted to his family. He was a true patriot, who believed in the Constitution, small government and working hard to take care of oneself. He studied history and appreciated the sacrifices made for this country. He spent 15 years in Idaho and Montana and always found a "family" out west. He touched many lives. He loved cattle, horses, mules and most of all his dogs, who were his constant companions. Tom was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene "Pat" Clennon and his maternal grandparents, Alvin and Gladys Bednar.

Tom is survived by his mother, Louise Clennon, Austin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Shane and Jennifer Clennon, Fargo, N.D., Todd and De Anna Clennon, Austin, Jon Clennon, Austin, Patrick "Joe" Tabor, Austin; grandfather, Eugene Clennon, Austin; grandmother, Mary Lou Clennon, Greenville, S.C.; nieces, Marie, Olivia and Thea Clennon; nephews, Riley, Steven and Matthew Clennon; aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 12, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael Olmsted officiating. Robert W. Lewis

1923-2013

Robert (Bob) W. Lewis, 89, of Rochester, Minnesota, and formerly of Austin, Minnesota, and Park Rapids, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, of complications from pneumonia and congestive heart failure.

Bob was born October 23, 1923, on the family farm in Berlin, North Dakota, to Grant E. and Nellie (Gates) Lewis. He married Shirley M. Cleveland on November 10, 1951, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, Iowa. Bob and Shirley lived in Austin, where they raised five daughters. After working in the Austin plant for 34 years, Bob retired to a life of fishing and hunting. They spent several years traveling out west. He and Shirley lived in Park Rapids, for more than 25 years where they lived on Portage Lake. They moved to Rochester nine years ago to be closer to family.

Bob was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved to sing, play his harmonica and occasionally the banjo or accordion. He loved to tinker on old cars and engines and was known to make his own lawn/snow plow tractors out of junk parts from the dump. He loved to dance and made sure all his daughters knew how to dance as well. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do once he put his mind to it and passed this belief onto his children.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley M. (Cleveland); his daughters, Judy (Bob) Olson of Rochester, Gayle (Gaylord) of Beresford, S.D., Brenda Lewis of Waseca, Minn., Renee (Craig) Larson of Detroit Lakes, Minn., Christine (Timothy) Gaffron of Maple Grove, Minn., Sharon K Lewis of Nisswa, Minn. (Yep, no boys); his sister, Ethel Tellock of California; six grandchildren, Julie, Tracy, Valerie, Alana (Nealy), Erik and Lauren; six great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Joshua, Lydia, Abigail, Noah and Zander. He is preceded in death by his parents, Grant E. and Nellie (Gates) Lewis; brothers, Lloyd, Everett and Ralph Lewis; sister, Leona Spencer; brother in laws, Donald Tellock, Harold Avelsgard and Stuart Spencer; and a sister in law, Shirley Brownwell.

Bob served in World War II in the Navy on the destroyer U.S.S. Willard Keith. He was a very loving husband and father. He will always be singing in our hearts.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 3:45 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery in Austin.

Randy Joseph Morris

1963-2012

Randy Joseph Morris, 49, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, passed away December 29, 2012, as a result of a fatal head-on automobile accident in route to visit family in Arizona.

Randy was born to Kenneth and Verlie (Ernster) Morris on June 23, 1963, in Denver, Colorado. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1981, and went on to gain his bachelor’s degree in animal science from the University of Minnesota–St. Paul. After graduating, Randy took a job with Land-O-Lakes and was employed in the field of swine nutrition for the next 26 years.

He most recently worked in conjunction with Northern Country Feeds in Adams, Minn., managing their feed sales division. Randy was an avid livestock enthusiast, with the swine industry being one of his life's true passions. He was on the livestock judging team at the University of Minnesota and went on to own his own show pig operation. Through his passion for livestock, he positively impacted the lives of countless young people and will leave a legacy in the Minnesota livestock industry.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, and was married to his wife, Leanne (Walter), for 29 years. On April 14, 1987, Randy and Leanne welcomed their only child, Justin Morris into the world. Randy cherished the relationship with his son as they enjoyed a mutual passion for family, livestock and sports. Randy will forever be remembered for his honesty, integrity and work ethic, but most importantly, he always put family first. His infectious smile and unique sense of humor will be dearly missed.

Randy is survived by his wife Leanne Morris; son Justin Morris of Mankato, Minnesota; his father Kenneth Morris of Austin, Minnesota; sister Renee Hacker of Rochester, Minnesota; sister and brother-in-laws Paul and Ann Walter of Lyle, Minnesota; Cindy and Michael Schubert of Brownsdale, Minnesota; Joe and Teresa Bartholomew of Lyle; Shawn and Kathy Davis of Lyle, Minnesota; Brad and Tara Walter of Lyle; along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Randy was preceded in death by his mother, Verlie Morris; grandparents George and Mary Morris; Otto and Mary Ernster.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 11 at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Austin from 6 to 8 p.m., starting with a Rosary at 6 p.m. An additional visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 12 at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Austin at 12:30 p.m., with service of Mass beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Maynard Arthur Eppen

1922-2013

Maynard Arthur Eppen, 90, of Brownsdale, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2013, at Primrose in Austin, Minnesota.

Maynard was born on August 12, 1922, near Zumbrota, Minnesota, to Arthur and Marie (Diercks) Eppen. He graduated from Goodhue High School in 1941, and proudly served his country in the United States Navy from July 16, 1942, to December 23, 1945.

On December 3, 1949, Maynard was united in marriage to Elizabeth Martha Kuegele in Shawneetown, Miss. The couple were blessed with five children. Elizabeth preceded Maynard in death on January 20, 2009.

Maynard worked as bulk delivery driver for Standard Oil. He also owned and operated a resort. He was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Brownsdale.

Maynard Arthur Eppen is survived by his children, Dale and Hisako Eppen, Fountain, Minn., Sandra and David Grant, Austin, Alan and Ellen Eppen, Edgeley, North Dakota, Dean and Wilma Eppen, Charlotte, Maine; 10 grandchildren, Jason and Angela Grant, Leonard Grant, Eric and Kara Grant, Angella and Bryan Van Scharrel, Brian and Kim Eppen, John and Dyan Eppen, Sarah Eppen, Timothy Eppen, Rebekah Eppen, Daniel Eppen, 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Harriet Bredehoft; and one brother, Burton Eppen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; his infant daughter; his parents Arthur and Marie Eppen; one brother; and one sister.

The funeral service for Maynard Arthur Eppen will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 401 Main St. W in Brownsdale with the Rev. Jeff Sage officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Brownsdale with military honors by the Austin American Legion. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Harold E. Pitcock, Jr.

1967-2013

Harold E. Pitcock Jr., 45, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, January 7, 2013, at his home.

Harold was born April 10, 1967, in Austin to Shirley Rumsey and Harold E. Pitcock Sr. Harold grew up in Ellendale, Minnesota, and spent most of his life working in the southern Minnesota area as a mechanic. A member of First United Methodist Church, he enjoyed working on cars and riding his bicycle.

Survivors include his parents, Shirley Rumsey of Austin and Harold Pitcock Sr. of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; son Joey Pitcock; daughter Katey Ann Pitcock of Rice Lake, Wisconsin; two grandchildren; siblings Daniel Pitcock and Kelly (Perfecto) Ramos, both of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ben Rumsey and Mark Wilson of Austin, Tony Coan of Lancaster, California; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother David, both sets of grandparents and one uncle.

Mark August Wollenburg, 47, of Brownsdale, Minnesota, died Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Mark dealt with lung issues since 2003, which ultimately caused heart failure.

Mark was born May 3, 1965, in Austin, Minn., to George August Wollenburg Jr., and Marilyn Elizabeth (Juhnke) Wollenburg. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church near Waltham and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Brownsdale. Mark enjoyed studying and discussing God’s Word in various Bible study groups.

Survivors include his mother, Marilyn Wollenburg of Brownsdale; brother, Steven Wollenburg of Brownsdale; three sisters, Jane (Pastor Jim) Nihiser of Traverse City, Mich., Linda (Brian) Wellik of Rochester and Mary (Jeffrey) Duehlmeyer of Des Moines, Iowa; eight nieces and nephews; four great-nieces and -nephews; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, George August Wollenburg Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Pleasant Valley, near Racine, with Pastor Ron Prigge officiating. Interment will follow the service at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery near Waltham. Visitation will be held on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Nettie Nei, age 86 of Austin, died Thursday, January 10, 2013 at her home.

Nettie Mae Moffit was born February 28, 1926 in Chanarambie Township, Murray County, Minnesota, to Robert and Lena (Buchan) Moffit. On June 26, 1949, Nettie was united in marriage to Clayton Nei in Austin, Minnesota. She worked at Hormel Foods in Austin after her marriage, at the Arthur Hotel in Rochester, and later at Burr Oak as a housekeeper. She will be remembered for her love of flowers, gardening, and music, and for her clown collection.

Survivors include her children Karen Nei, Nancy Nei, George Nei, and Charles Nei, all of Austin; granddaughter Sondra (Jeff Mason) Nei of Faribault; great grandchildren Tyler, Riley and Kyle Mason; a brother David (Gail) Moffit of Austin; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Lena Moffit; her husband Clayton Nei; twin sons Larry and Gary, daughter Baby Girl Nei.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with the Rev. Dr. Stephen DeFor officiating. He was also a member of the American Legion Riders organization. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music and especially riding his motorcycle. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Oscar LaVerne Holleque

1917-2013

Oscar LaVerne Holleque a.k.a., Stig, 95, of Austin, Minnesota, Springdale, Arkansas, and many cities in between passed away peacefully in the company of his granddaughter Carrie on January 7, 2013, in Arlington, Texas.

He relocated to Texas immediately after the death of his beloved wife of 72 years, Irene Johanna (Yonke) Holleque on October 18, 2011. At his request, both his and Irene's urns will be placed at their head stone, Hoflanda (Historical) Cemetery, Mower County, Minnesota, later this year.

Oscar was born in Conrad, Montana, to Oscar and Nellie Holleque on April 25, 1917, on their Montana land rush claim. He and Irene went to high school at Austin and both graduated in 1935. He went on to attend Luther College and returned to marry his high school sweet heart, Irene Yonke, in 1939. In his early years he worked at Hormel Meat Packing then became a professional Boy Scout executive for 20 years.

In 1962 he started a new career managing church-affiliated nursing homes and retired to Springdale in 1982. Founding member of Living Savior Lutheran Church of Springdale, Rotary Club of Springdale (oldest living). He enjoyed sports and music; he was on Austin high school state basketball team, and also played football, baseball and ran track. Played clarinet in the Luther College band that was sent to perform in Norway. After high school and college, he played on the Hormel Packers baseball team.

Oscar is preceded in death by his father, Oscar Edwin Holleque; mother, Nellie Maria (Carlson) Holleque; sisters, Marian and Delpha; and brother, Richard.

Oscar and Irene are survived by Oscar E. (Gene) Holleque and wife Joyce of Arlington, Texas; Stephen R. Holleque and wife Jill of Jackson, Mich.; grandchildren, Cynthia Holleque, Timothy Holleque, Stephen (Todd) Holleque, Heather Hall and Carrie Snodgrass; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Death and Funeral for Freeman Trowbridge

FREEMAN TROWBRIDGE

Freeman Trowbridge, 54, died Wednesday while at work at the North American Car Corp.

He resided at 805 1st Ave. NW, and is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Max (Elva) Whitehead, Welcome, Minnesota, and Mrs. Floyd (Beryl) Wright, Austin; and by a brother Todd Trowbridge, Austin.

He made his home with Roy Goslees the past 20 years.

Funeral services will be held Saturday.


TROWBRIDGE -- Funeral services for Freeman Trowbridge, 805 1st Ave. NW, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Methodist Church, Rev. G. Jacobus officiating. Intement will be in Woodbury Cemetery with an American Legion military escort. 1911 Freeman Trowbridge 1966

Freeman Adelbert Trowbridge was born November 13, 1911, in Mower County, Minnesota, the son of Fred and Nelle Trowbridge.

He graduated from Austin High School in 1933. From 1933 to ______ he resided at Hollandale, and after military service, he made his home at the Roy Goslee residence, 805 1st Ave. NW.

Mr. Trowbridge was engaged to Violet Bastian, Austin. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Eagles.

Mr. Trowbridge died suddenly at 10 a.m. April 13, 1966, while at work at the North Ameican Car corp.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Max (Elva) Whitehead, Welcome, Minn., Mrs. Floyd (Beryl) Wright, Austin; and a brother, Todd Trowbridge, Austin.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. April 16, at First Methodist Church, Rev. George Jacobus officiating. Interment was in Woodbury Cemetery with Worlein Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were: Alex Hirsh, Don Blais, Roy Gosle, Joe Roche, Hollis Roche, Lester Berry.

Diana (Lockwood) Trowbridge

1816-1891

Mrs. Diana L. Trowbridge Obit.

Mrs. Diana L., wife of Stewart H. Trowbridge of Lyle township, died at her daughter's home at superior Wisconsin, last Friday.

Her remains were broguht to Cedar City for burial. Funeral services were held on Sunday in the Cedar City school house, by Rev. L. Shumate.

Mrs. Trowbridge was born at Potsdam, Vermont, June 9, 1816. Her maiden name was Lockwood. Her folks came to Burlington, Wisconsin in 1837. She was married in 1842. She came with her family to Lyle in 1863, where they have since resided. Of seven children, four survive: Miles M., Henry C. and Milton M. Trowbridge, and Mrs. N.T. Bowers.

Her entire life was a high example of Christian piety and love.

Nancy (Hubbard) Peck

Nancy Peck, 81, of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, died Friday, January 11, 2013, at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center where she had resided for a short time.

Nancy Ann Peck was born July 10, 1931, in Pipestone, Minnesota, to Warren and Dorothy (Peck) Hubbard. She graduated from Mankato High School and was united in marriage to Roger Peck on December 27, 1952, in Mankato, Minnesota.

Nancy was a homemaker and worked as a nurse's aid at Meadow Manor Nursing Home for more than 15 years. She enjoyed reading, taking care of her cats and truly enjoyed the time she spent with the ladies in the "Red Hat Society."

She is survived by her children, Kelly (Dori) Peck of Montevideo, Minnesota; Thomas (Julie) Peck and Tracy (Mark) Jacobson both of Grand Meadow; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Phyllis Olinger of Mankato. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger, on May 11, 2003; one son, David Peck; and her brother Tedd Hubbard.

Funeral services for Nancy A. Peck will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at the United Church of Grand Meadow. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Maurice Lester Johnson

Maurice Lester Johnson, 92, passed away on January 11, 2013, at his home in Hayfield, Minnesota.

Maurice was born on January 18, 1920, the son of Ole and Alvina (Evenson) Johnson in Dodge County, Minnesota. Maurice was a life time member of Evanger Lutheran Church. He was baptized, confirmed and married at Evanger. Maurice served in the Army from 1942 to 1945, during World War II, in Africa and Italy.

He moved to Rochester, Minnesota, in 1951, where he worked in construction until his retirement in 1985. He moved to Crestview Villa in 2002, where he resided until his death. Maurice enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, doing puzzles, working in his yard and garden, and reminiscing about old times.

Maurice is survived by his son, DeBlonde (Mary) Johnson, Deerwood, Minnesota; daughter, Lisa (Bill) Burt, Rochester; four grandchildren, Thad, Neil, Alec and Emily; five great-grandchildren, Rachel, Luke, Cade, Adele and Landon; two sisters, Luella Schieck and Ruth (Beaumont) Senjem, both of Hayfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis on May 30, 2008; five brothers, Manton, Alfred, Otis, Ruben and Stanley; and one sister, Aletta.

The funeral service for Maurice Lester Johnson will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Evanger Lutheran Church, 33554 660th Ave., Sargeant, Minnesota, with the Rev. AT ROCHESTER

Funeral services for Karl Gerhart, 58, of Austin, Minnesota, and formerly of Stacyville, were held June 21 at St. Augustine church in Austin, with Rev. F.A. McCarthy officiating. Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery at Austin. Mr. Gerhart died June 18, 1949, at St. Mary's hospital in Rochester.

Karl Frederick, son of Lewis and Katherine Gerhart, was born November 2, 1890, on a farm near Adams, Minnesota. where he lived until the age of 12. Then his parents moved to Stacyville where he attended and graduated from the public school, later attending Upper Iowa University at Fayette.

In 1931 he married Mary Ann Weber in the Cathedral at St. Paul. They established their home in Stacyville and in 1946 moved to Austin where he and his brother, Alvin, were active in the insurance business.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mary Jane; one son, Karl Frederick Jr.; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Voss of Osage and Mrs. Matie Miller of Waukegan, Illinois; and a brother, Alvin of Austin.

Judy Mae (Schaub) Andersen

1947-2013

Judy Mae (Schaub) Andersen, 65, of Winton, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas, from complications of pneumonia.

Judy was born June 23, 1947, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Robert and Donna Schaub. She graduated from Austin Senior High School in 1965 and attended Austin Community College before meeting Roland Andersen of Glenville, Minnesota, at the roller-skating rink in Brownsdale, Minnesota. After a brief courtship, they married on April 15, 1966, and raised three daughters in Austin, Minnesota.

Judy returned to college later in life and completed her associate's degree at Austin Community College in 1987, where on occasion she found herself in class with two of her daughters, and even her mother once. Judy and Roland later retired to Roland's family farm near Glenville, and started spending the winter months in Mission, Texas. They eventually settled into life in northern Minnesota where they built a home on beautiful Fall Lake, watching the eagles soar and listening to the call of the loons. Judy enjoyed the scenic view of the lake while reading from her favorite chair and during her treasured pontoon rides with many different family and friends.

Throughout her life, traveling the United States was a favorite pastime, as was getting together with their many family and friends to play games and visit.

She is survived by her parents, Bob and Donna Schaub, and her loving husband, Roland, whom she was married to for 46 years. They had three daughters, Tammie Andersen (Mike Smith) of Sanibel, Fla., Tonya (Doug) Simpson of Eau Claire, Wis., and Nikki Caliri (Brian Arnold) of Winton. She felt blessed to have six grandchildren: Austin Andersen, Madeline and Andrew Simpson, and Sam, Jacob and David Caliri. She also had two siblings: Gene (Barb) Schaub and Alan (Bernadette) Schaub. She enjoyed spending time with her many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She is soaring with the eagles now.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Round Prairie Church, 12881 75th St., Glenville, Minnesota, with Pastor Kent A. Otterman officiating.

Lorraine R. (Jarvis) Oestreich

1923-2013

Lorraine R. Oestreich, 89, of Austin, Minnesota, and formerly of St. Paul, Minnesota, died January 13, 2013, after a long illness.

Lorraine R. Oestreich (Jarvis) was born April 4, 1923, in St. Paul to Emma and Frank Jarvis. She had been a lifetime resident of West St. Paul and South St. Paul until moving to Austin in 2008 to be near her daughter.

She graduated from Humboldt High School in St. Paul in 1941. Lorraine married Marvin Oestreich on June 8, 1946. She loved being a homemaker and worked as a bookkeeper at different stages of her life.

Lorraine loved her family and friends and enjoyed reading, knitting and cross-stitching. She was an active member for many years at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, South St. Paul and St. Paul's on the Hill Episcopal Church in St. Paul. A lifelong Episcopalian, she was currently a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Austin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her twin sister, Ruth; her sister, Dorothy; and two brothers, Armand and Alvin.

Lorraine is survived by daughter, Susan (Vern) Grove, of Austin; son, Stephen (Claudia), of South St. Paul; grandson, Chris (Alicia) Grove; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Madisyn Grove, all of Austin; step grandson, Charles (Jessie) Linkert of New Market, Minn., and their daughter Lauren; sister-in-law, Audrey Arneson of Austin; and special nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 301 Third Ave. NW, Austin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 17 with inurnment at Fort Snelling at a later date. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at Clasen Jordan Mortuary and at the church for one hour before the service on Thursday morning. Memorials are preferred to Christ Episcopal Church, Austin, or donor's choice.

Leslie Eugene Dunlap Jr.

1924-2013

Leslie Eugene "Gene" Dunlap Jr., 88, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society Home in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Gene was born on June 2, 1924, in Washington, Iowa, to Leslie Sr. and Gladys Dunlap. He attended Washington schools and junior college until he was drafted (the draft notice was signed by his father) into World War II.

He served in the Army from February 1943 through October 1945, where he was a staff sergeant in the Americal Division in the South Pacific Theatre. During the Battle of Bougainville, he was wounded and received a Purple Heart and was awarded a Bronze Star medal for heroism.

Gene graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in 1949 and began teaching elementary strings and band in Austin that same year. After working summers on his master's degree at ISTC, in 1962 he switched to teaching K-6 elementary classroom music, retiring from the Austin Public Schools in 1984. Back in the days of community bands, parades and the local Bandshell concerts, Gene was the band director. He and his wife, Marge, were founding members of the Austin Symphony Orchestra, with Gene playing bassoon for many years.

Church commitment was very important to Gene, and he served as choir director over the many years for the Episcopal, Presbyterian, Methodist and most recently, Our Saviors Lutheran Church, where he was very involved.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marjorie (nee Benedict); daughters Kathryn (Jerry) Brandt of Lake Villa, Illinois, and Carol Westrum of Minneapolis; grandson Chad Westrum of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and granddaughter Kaycie Dunlap of Minneapolis; along with two great-grandchildren. His sister, Shirley (Kimball) Gates, resides in Hopkinton, Iowa, and brother-in-law, Edwin Benedict, in Charles City, Iowa. There also several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1600 W. Oakland Ave., Austin, with the Rev. Glenn Monson officiating. Raymond H. Bergan

1919-2013

Raymond H. Bergan, 93, a long time LeRoy-area farmer died Sunday January 13, 2013, at Spring Valley Senior Living where he had resided for about a year.

Raymond Howard Bergan was born July 8, 1919, at Forest City, Iowa, to Oscar and Matilda (Jass) Bergan, he attended school through the 10th grade and moved to the LeRoy area in 1936. During the war he built bombs, and worked as a mechanic and for Oliver in Charles City, Iowa. Ray later started farming, which he did until his retirement in 2005. Ray was united in marriage to Ruth Kulsrud on Dec. 27, 1952, at the LeRoy Lutheran Church.

He was very active in the LeRoy Lutheran Church, serving on the church board, the cemetery board and serving as the head usher for many years. Ray also served on the school board for LeRoy-Ostrander District 499. He was a wonderful husband and loving father who will be missed by all.

Ray is survived by his wife Ruth of LeRoy; children, Brian (Peggy) Bergan of LeRoy, Jayne (J.J.) Sims of Bloomington, Minn., and Jon (Deanna) Bergan of LeRoy; four grandchildren; Jill, J.R., Miranda and Lindsay; and one brother Lester (Marlene) Bergan of Chatfield, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Laurine Bergland; and two brothers, Curtis and Ronald.

The family would like to thank the Spring Valley Senior Living for the wonderful care their dad received the last 11 months of his life.

Funeral services for Raymond H. Bergan will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013, at the LeRoy Lutheran Church in LeRoy with the Rev. Herman Bakker officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday January 16, at the Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Nickolas Krebsbach

1877-1942

STACYVILLE, IOWA - Funeral services were held Tuesday morning for Nick Krebsbach, 65, who died Saturday'

Surviving are his wife, Katharina; one son, John, at home; three daughters, Mrs. John Falk, Dewar, Iowa; Mrs. Laurence Schmitz, Waterloo, and Mrs. Ted Neabers, St. Paul. Minn; nine grandchildren; four brothers: John and Steve of Johnsburg, Peter of St. Paul and Matt of Sleepy Eye, Minn., and a sister, Anna, of Johnsburg.

He was a farmer all his life, retiring in March, 1939; he assisted his son, John, at his filling station until a few weeks ago, when he suffered a heart attack. He was a native of Johnsburg, born there January 5, 1877.

June Ardyth (Davis) Philp

1920-2012

June Ardyth Philp, 92, our beloved mother, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013.

June was born in Clarion, Iowa, to Benjamin and Doris (Curley) Davis on October 23, 1920. She married Bernard Philp and they raised their two daughters in Austin, Minnesota. Bernard and June moved to Tucson, Arizona, in August 1983.

June was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard, who was killed by a drunk driver on December 13, 1983; her parents; and sister, Jeanette Gilbert.

June is survived by her two daughters, Ardyth (Richard) Arnston of Tucson and Muriel (John) Davis of Tucson; three sisters, Audrey Rolfson, Austin, Beverly Mees, Elkton, Minnesota, and Maxine Thompson, Mankato, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, where she was active in card recycling, quilting and United Methodist Women.

At the start of World War II, she went to Rockford, Illinois, to work at the National Lock Defense Plant making aircraft bolts. For 25-plus years she was a self-employed beautician in Grand Meadow, Minnesota, and her home shop in Austin. She enjoyed baking, ballroom dancing, fishing, sewing and traveling.

There will be a funeral service at Adair Funeral Homes, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N Northern Ave., Tucson on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at 1 p.m. with public visitation from noon to 1 p.m. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Tucson. Arrangements entrusted to Adair Funeral Homes, adairfuneralhomes.com.

Leland L. Iverson

1925-2013

(August 9, 1925 - January 16, 2013)

Leland L. Iverson, 87 of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

Leland Leo Iverson was born August 9, 1925 in London Township of Freeborn County to Carl and Anna (Hanson) Iverson. He attended country school in Freeborn County. Lee served in the US Navy during World War II on the Rudyerd Bay as a Seamen 1st class. He was an anti-aircraft gunner serving in the Pacific Theater, seeing action in Palau, the Philippines, South China Sea, Lingayen, Indochina, and Formosa. They were a key part of the invasion of Iwo Jima, Kerma Retto, and Okinawa.

He married Annette Denker Schuler on February 12, 1972 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Lee worked for the Hormel Company until the time of his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was a member of Crane Community Chapel, Olaf B. Damm Post #1216 VFW and had been a member of the Eagles Club and the American Legion Post #91.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Ed Bahl, grandparents, his wife Annette, son Leonard, granddaughter Denise, brother Howard Bahl, one uncle and four aunts.

Lee is survived by his children, Michael (Pauline) Iverson, Austin, Minnesota; Douglas (Shirley) Schuler, Cannon Falls, Minnesota; Diann (Randy) Mytten, Wabasha, Minnesota; Donna (Dennis) Brown, Omaha, Nebraska; Duane (Annette) Schuler, Austin, Minnesota; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; aunt, Margaret Campbell, Austin, Minnesota; and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 19th at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with the Reverend Pam Aandahl Solberg officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery with Olaf B. Damm Post #1216 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Austin Post #91 American Legion in charge of military rites. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and on Saturday morning for one hour before the service.

Danny Nodvedt

1953-2013

Danny Nodvedt, 59, of Spring Valley, Minnesota, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Red Wing Health Center.

Danny was born July 2, 1953, to Clifford Julius and Doris (Olson) Nodtvedt in Austin, Minnesota, at St. Olaf Hospital. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. He graduated from high school and attended one year of college. On Dec. 10, 1977, he was united in marriage to Susan Hamlin at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley, Minnesota. He worked as a heavy equipment operator until he was unable. Danny enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing and muscle cars.

He is survived by his wife Susan of Spring Valley; son Brent of Spring Valley; granddaughter Tayten; sisters Vickie Nodtvedt Stevens of Red Wing, Minnesota, and Julie (Dennis) Helgeson of Grand Meadow, Minnesota; his father and mother in-law Clifford “Kip” (Kathryn) Hamlin; sisters-in-law Janine (Rick) Hyland, Vicki (Scott) Babineau; brothers-in-law Brady (Sheila) Hamlin and Rory Hamlin; nieces and nephews Christopher, Travis, Trenton, Tali, Sarah, Sadie, Wyatt, Braden, Kaitlyn and Kaleb.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford (1966) and Doris (1978).

Funeral services for Danny Nodtvedt will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Janury 19, 2013, at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley, with Pastor Mark Rader officiating. Burial will be held at Spring Valley Cemetery. Lloyd H. Roush

1918-2013

Obituary

Lloyd H. Roush, 94, Wausau, formerly of Austin, Minnesota died Monday, January 14, 2013 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He was born March 10, 1918 in Lanesboro, Iowa, son of the late James and Golda (Waldron) Roush. On March 29, 1936 he married Twila Gillson in Northwood, Iowa. She preceded him in death on September 28, 2007.

Lloyd was a chief engineer at Austin Public Schools in Austin, Minnesota prior to his retirement.

Survivors include his three children, Patsy (Walter) Campbell, Walpole, New Hampshire, Sharon Van Sant, Brooksville, Florida and Robbin (Mark) Knudtson, Wausau, 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one daughter, Karla Jennison, two sons-in-law, Rodman Van Sant and Nial Jennison and three sisters and two brothers.

Margaret M. Branden, age 94, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday evening, January 18, 2013 at Adams Healthcare Center, Adams, Minnesota.

She was born October 5, 1918, to Raymond and Minnie (Iverson) Belden in Brownsdale, Minnesota. On March 9, 1947, Margaret married Henry Branden in Adams, Minnesota. Henry passed away on February 28, 1997. To this union two children were born. Margaret was a homemaker for many years and was a lifelong Austin resident. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with her family. Margaret loved to spend time outdoors and feeding all of the wildlife in her back yard.

Survivors include her two sons, Terry (Gloria) Branden of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Tom (Sandy) Branden of Austin, Minnesota; a special friend, Julie Diederich of Austin, Minnesota; five grandchildren: Brian Bellin, Chris Branden, Heather Dather, Melissa Retterath and Amy Westland; nine great-grandchildren; one stepson, Dennis (Marie) Branden of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Ervin; one great-granddaughter, Amanda; one sister, Lucille; and one brother, Arnold.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Memorials preferred to donor's choice.

Arnold "Pete" Bergstrom

1925-2013

Arnold was born on September 29, 1925, in Freeborn County, Minnesota, to Myrtle and William Bergstrom. He attended Mower County Rural Schools in District 64 and later graduated from Austin Public Schools in 1943.

On July 20, 1944, he married Mildred Ruth Reimann at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hollandale, Minnesota. They resided on the family farm in the Corning, Minn. area. From 1957 to 1960, the family moved to a dairy operation in Pine City, Minnesota.

Arnold was a member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Austin. He was also a member of the Austin Moose Lodge No. 1180 and belonged to the Golden Age card group. He was chairman of the School District No. 78, O'Leary School and was instrumental in helping consolidate the country school into the Blooming Prairie, Minnesota School District No. 756 in 1957. He was also on the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Board in Moscow Township.

Arnold's occupation was to care for the land. A farmer he was. He farmed and milked dairy cows in Moscow Township in Freeborn County, Minnesota. In 1965, he advanced his dairy operation to a loose-housing Holstein operation.

He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, bowling, playing cards, casinos, Minnesota Twins and football. It was fun for his family to continue playing cards during his hospice care.

Arnold is survived by his children Lonna Lysne (Rich Epp), rural Owatonna, Minnesota; Linda (Nolan) Christianson, Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, Patricia Bergstrom, Blaine, Minnesota; Daniel (Diane) Bergstrom, Lansing, Minnesota; grandchildren: Heather, Abraham, Tonya, Aaron, Lianna, Sarah, Blake, Erin, Tyler and Cody; great grandchildren: Taylor, Deizel, Robyn, Ryan, Anika, Cody, Emma, Cole, Cade, Addison, Aden, Michael, and Ethan; special friend, Helen Broitzman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Ruth; his son Timothy Dean; his parents William Bergstrom and Myrtle (Bergstrom) Johnson; sister and brother-in-law Marion and Nordahl Tollefson; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Eunice Bergstrom.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at the Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jonathan Davis officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service on Tuesday morning. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Alvah Elester Beadell

1861-1949

LAST RITES FOR
ST. ANSGAR MAN
WERE HELD SUNDAY

Funeral services for A.E. Beadell of St. Ansgar, 87, were held Sunday afternoon, August 28, 1949, at the Jordan chapel in Austin, Minnesota. The Rev. L. Sandgren officiated and burial was made in the Lansing cemetery, with Masonic rites at the graveside.

Mr. Beadell died last Thursday at the St. Olaf Hospital in Austin where he was taken when he became ill.

Alvah Elester Beadell was born on November 4, 1861, at Berlin, Wisconsin, to Mr. and Mrs. Luther Beadell. His early years were spent in Wisconsin. In 1887 he was married to Mary Ann Newcomer, and one daughter, Mayre E., was born to them. His wife died in June 1889.

Later Mr. Beadell came west, locating at Lansing, Minnesota. He was married to Bessie M. Soule of Lansing on June 15, 1893. Five sons and one daughter were born to this union. In 1919 the family moved to Austin where Mr. Beadell was active in city affairs. he was at one time an alderman at large, and was secretary for the Mower county Agriculture Association for several years.

In 1929 he began working for the Hormel company as stock buyer at St. Ansgar, which he continued until he retired at the age of 85. He was a member and past master of A.F. & A.M. Lodge at Lansing.

After the death of his wife on September 8, 1942, he moved to St. Ansgar where he lived the rest of his life.

Surviving are four sons, Lester, who lived with his father, Edwin of Mankato, Minnesota, Don of Austin, and Walter of Chicago; two daughters, Mayre E. and Mrs. Richard (Helen) Lukes of Waterloo; eight grandchildren an done great-grandson.
