Willis Drummond (died 1904)
Probable Suicide
MAN FOUND DEAD NEAR ELKTON WITH
HIS THROAT CUT AND HEAD CRUSHED
The body of Willis Drummond, an iron moulder, belonging to
the Dubuque Iron Moulders Union, was found near Elkton Sunday morning. His
skull was crushed, his throat cut and his left wrist cut. The body was
lying within four feet of the Great Western tracks. The body was brought
to this city and an inquest will be held Tuesday morning.
Sunday morning the crew of the C.G. Western morning freight
reported at Taopi that the body of a man was lying beside the track four
miles south of Elkton. The section crew started out from Taopi and met a
crew from Elkton that had in the meantime discovered the body. County
commisioner Keenan was called up and as Coroner Hollister was out of the
city and the Deputy's name forgotten. Dr. Kendricks was instructed to act
and he went over with Fred Baird the undertaker.
Before arriving on the scene they saw two groups of men,
one near the track and the other at a straw pile. They found the body lying
face down on the railroad embankment. From there they visited the straw
pile where in the tail of the pile, in the chaff, was the impression of a
man's form. About where the head would be was a great pool of blood and
to the left of the body was a smaller pool of blood. A bloody razor in a
half of its case lay on the straw. It looked as though the man had cut his
throat and wrist and then lay face down to bleed to death.
The coroner then returned to the body and turning it over
found that the throat had been cut, also the wrist. The top of the skull
was crushed in. It is supposed that Drummond, after cutting his throat and
wrist, laid down to die but as no important arteries were cut, death was
slow in coming. Drummond then evidently walked to the track and laid down,
head toward the approaching early morning passenger, which killed him and
threw the body off the track.
Drummond was a good looking man of between 45 and 50 years
of age. he was of cleanly disposition as brushes, comb, and soap were
found in his pockets. Beside these were found $7 in money and a gold
watch. Letters from one who was evidently a married sister were also
found. His cards of the Iron Moulder's Union of Minneapolis were all
paid up as well as were all his assessments.
His relatives have been notified of his death. . . .

Jacob Richard Hickok 1821-1884
Jacob Richard Hickok Death
Jacob Richard Hickok, of the town of Lyle, met his death
on Saturday morning in a sudden manner. He left home in his buggy in search
of a man to assist him in his farm work. Shortly after he was found dead,
his body hanging out of the buggy and held by one foot in the foot rest.
It is supposed he was taken in a fit and fell out, and was dragged about
a mile.
Mr. Hickok was born at Saratoga Springs, N.Y., January 25,
1821, moved to Wisconsin in 1856, and came to Lyle in February, 1884. He
leaves one son, Thomas F. Hickok.

Thomas Hickok died 1889
#1:
Thomas Hickok died at Lyle, February 13. The deceased came
to this county about six years ago, with his father, who purchased what is
known as the Peter Nelson farm in the town of Lyle, where he was killed;
leaving the deceased the only living representative of his family.
His funeral was to have taken place at Varco on Friday,
but a telegram from an aunt living in New York to hold the remains until
her representative should arrive, was complied with and on Saturday the
gentleman who will take charge of the remains arrived, and will have those
of the father, who was buried at Varco, exhumed, and take them to Wisconsin
for interment in the family burying ground.

#2:
Mention was made last week of the death of Thos. Hickok.
His funeral was at the M.E. Church, attended by a large number of
sympathizing friends. The sermon was preached by Rev. Barcaloo. As it
was not thought best to take the remains to the church, nearly all in
attendance went to the Wheeler House to review the remains.
A Mr. Smith, cousin of Mr. Hickok, was here to take charge
of the remains and with the remains of his father who was buried a few years
ago, took them to the family burial place in York state.

Thomas Hickok
We learn from sexton, David Johnson, that Mr. Thomas
Hickok died of paralysis at his home near Austin, Minnesota, and that
the only relative known aside from a small daughter of the deceased,
is an Aunt living in the state of New York who upon receiving a telegram
of the death of her nephew sent Mr. M. Homer Smith, an undertaker of
Baldwinsville, N.Y., to care for the remains and bring them with those
of his father (who died about three years since) and lay them beside those
of his mother in the Evansville cemetery, which was done last Wednesday.
It is sad that his daughter is sole heir to a handsome
property of valuable farm and buildings.
This family is well known throughout this part of the
country as being among its earliest settlers, locating upon Jug Prairie
in an early day where they became very highly respected, the old gentleman
being familiarly called "Old Uncle Jake" for many years, but after the
death of his wife, his only son Thomas was married and with a view of
bettering his position in life he pursuaded his father to sell his
property and move with him to Minnesota about five years since.

Misty Colleen Wilde, 35 1976-2012
Misty Colleen Wilde, 35, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Saturday, November
17, 2012, at her home.
Misty was born on a misty and foggy morning (how she got her name) in
Merced, California, on Nov. 18, 1976, to Gary and Marsha Wilde. Misty
loved stock car racing with her Dad; she even crashed the racecar. At a

tale wedding in the park in Lyle, Minn. When her sister Mandy had cancer
treatments she was the mother hen who took turns going to the hospital
watching her baby sister. She was a member of the First Baptist Church
